Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Castelo de Óbidos is a grand medieval castle with origins dating back to the 9th century. The castle offers hotel rooms for visitors, allowing them to experience a unique stay within its historic walls. From the top of the castle, one can admire the charming streets below, adorned with Moorish roof tiles and old trees that create a picturesque setting.
🏰✨ Visiting Óbidos Castle is like stepping into a fairytale! The medieval walls, cobblestone streets, and breathtaking views from the top make it one of the most enchanting places in Portugal. Walking along the ramparts gives you a panoramic view of the charming whitewashed village below. It’s beautifully preserved and full of history — perfect for a romantic stroll or an inspiring photo walk. A magical stop you won’t forget! 🌸📸

This place is like travelling back in time. A must if you are in Portugal on holiday. Definitely tour the medieval castle. The town is awesome too. So many shops, restaurants, pubs, souvenir stores. Worth staying a day and night to see all. Highly recommend.
Colin S — Google review
Walking the perimeter walls here is so fun. You get great views of both the inside city and the outside countryside. The stairs will give you a nice mini-workout too. Inside the city are a good selection of cafes, restaurants, and shops. I especially liked the chocolate shop! Entry is free here but a small fee for parking
Chris K — Google review
A must do. Perfect for a 3-4hour afternoon excursion. Such a unique experience where you can walk along the castle walls. I would wear shoes with a good grip on the soles though from stones that have become slippery over years of use. There are also tons of little restaurants and shops nestled in the old town.
Carina O — Google review
Óbidos is an incredible medieval town. The castle and the village are both beautifully preserved, and walking through the cobbled streets truly feels like stepping back in time. If you can, climb up and walk along the castle walls — the views from up there are absolutely stunning. Another great tip: try a ginjinha liqueur served in a small chocolate cup — it’s a delicious local treat! I highly recommend visiting Óbidos; it’s a magical place full of history and charm.
Murillo P — Google review
Happened to be in the area and couldn’t resist checking out Castelo de Óbidos. Found a parking spot by the road and walked up — parking was free, and entry was free as well. It’s really cool that there are houses inside the castle walls, and I even spotted a few properties for sale! I can imagine the place was very lively before the pandemic, but today it felt calm and relaxed — almost like a day off for the town. The highlight was definitely walking along the castle walls. Some sections are narrow and quite high up, so you might get a little thrill (or fear!) as you go — but it’s worth doing. Overall, it’s a charming and unique spot, perfect for a casual stroll and a bit of history.
EH L — Google review
When you visit Obidos, the castle is oblegatory. It is free and only from outside visible. Its the main entrance to Obidos citadel- or is was in acient times. Now people often arrive via automobils not horses. And with car you park on other side of Obidos. But the castle is the highest point and you can also climb the walls beside, which is only goid for people without fear of higths.
R. A — Google review
The place that was once aesthetically pleasing became a commercial “Disneyland” for tourists. For the past five years, it has changed significantly; the village has lost its original charm, and the castle is now a hotel where visitors are not allowed. If you want to see the original hysterical castle, unfortunately, this is not a place to visit. It’s become an Instagram place just to make beautiful pictures.

Restaurant
Pousada do Castelo de Óbidos is an upscale accommodation located within the historic 700-year-old castle, offering luxurious suites and a refined restaurant. The restaurant provides a unique dining experience within the medieval castle, serving traditional dishes with a well-curated wine selection amidst preserved decor that enhances the ambiance.
I stayed here for two nights in April and had a truly wonderful experience. The room was spacious and very clean, and the meals were absolutely delicious. During my stay, there was a large power outage across Portugal, but the hotel and my room stayed fully powered the whole time, which made the stay really comfortable. While I was walking up the hill with my suitcase, a staff member happened to notice me and kindly helped carry my luggage. That moment left a deep impression on me. The next day, my train to the next destination was suddenly canceled, and I wasn’t sure what to do. Thanks to the staff’s kindness in suggesting an alternative bus route, I was able to continue my journey safely. Since I’m not very confident in English, I was especially touched by the staff’s kindness and patience. I’m truly grateful for their warm hospitality—it was more than just a pleasant stay. It was a stay wrapped in genuine human kindness.

I stayed here one night with my wife on our honeymoon and we were impressed with how friendly the staff were, from leaving a bottle of sparkling wine in our room to offering to take our luggage to the parking lot. The views from the hotel’s castle walls are UNMATCHED and definitely better than the rest of the areas open to the public. The rooms are clean, spacious, and the air conditioning was excellent. I’d say the food is pretty traditional, old school, but still tasty and fits the castle ambiance. The breakfast buffet was very extensive. This is a must-stay in Óbidos if you have the budget. Cheers!

Dining inside a castle already feels magical, but Juliana made the evening truly unforgettable. Her service was attentive, kind, and full of genuine warmth. The ambiance—historic stone walls, romantic atmosphere, and a sense of history all around—set the stage for a beautiful meal. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish perfectly prepared and presented. Thank you, Juliana, for elevating our night in such a special place!
Kimberley C — Google review
Location is absolutely beautiful. However the hotel itself was not what one would expect for >200€/night for a standard room. Rooms were pretty old, ours didn’t even have a shower (only bathtub), no gym, spa or any amenity you might expect.
Annika F — Google review
We got to stay in a castle/medieval walled city — how cool is that? We did heed some of the reviews that warned of lots of stairs and old building smells in the castle and switched to a cottage room and had an excellent experience — our room was large, we had awesome views of the city, and the bathroom was extremely well organized. Beyond that, the Pousada team was so kind and wonderful. They helped with our luggage, gave recommendations for places to eat, and gave us a ride to the train station (much appreciated, as we wouldn’t have made it easily with our luggage). We loved our cottage room, and the touch of the wax-sealed letter from Dona Ines explaining her story was a sweet touch that was both delightful and taught us a bit about the history of Portugal and where we were staying. I loved both my stays with the Pestana Group and would definitely stay again/recommend to others.
Meredith P — Google review
Lovely location with outstanding views!! To have breakfast in a magnificent castle is quite a delight especially when the dining room is under Juliana’s watchful eye. What a lovely smile first thing in the morning before a climb around the castle grounds and town of Obidos
Kathleen G — Google review
The food and service was excellent! Juliana was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our service. She gave us recommendations and they were spot on. The highlights of the night were the filet mignon and the Ginja ice cream! The ice cream was absolutely heavenly. The multiple textures were so amazing!
Brian F — Google review
We came here on our honeymoon and it could not have been a better experience! It was truly magical. The rooms were incredible. The restaurant was equally amazing and Juliana gave us the best service. Cannot recommend enough!

Porta da Vila is the main entrance to the old town of Obidos, featuring cobbled streets leading to the castle and adorned with whitewashed walls covered in colorful bougainvillea and geraniums. The area also includes the central square with Santa Maria Church and the Municipal Museum. Additionally, visitors can explore Direita for souvenirs and sample ginja de Obidos cherry liquor.
Very charming old streets that aren’t too busy! Many delicious cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops. People were so friendly and it was a beautiful place for photos.

Beautiful ornate gateway into the castle walled village of Obidos. There were street musicians rotating throughout the day, but this opera singer duo in particular were incredible. Wish I knew what track they’re singing because it was an absolute emotional banger.

The door of the medieval town within the castle! The azulejos on the wall, the arch, and the stones… Overall, very beautiful! Sometimes, there is also live music or performance art around it, might be fun to watch.

Wasnr entirlelt looking forward to this stop but boy was I wrong. It just so happened that a Medieval Festival was going on when we stopped and it made the trip even more worth the visit. Can't believe how much fun we had seeing the sights exploring the town and seeing everyone perform. This was quite a visit. If you're considering going and you can time it with a festival I highly recommend it. It really made it something to remember.

Upon my arrival in Óbidos, I found myself thrust into a town that appears not to have heard the news that centuries have passed since its founding. Its cobblestones are worn, not from haste, but from leisure. The kind of leisure that suggests people still take time to savor life's simpler pleasures, such as good food, good drink, and the quiet hum of conversation. Porta da Villa is not merely the gate to the city, it is a chapter in Óbidos’ enduring story, one I am glad to have read."

Such a beautiful villa, we have one of the best pastel do nata there and we climbed and walked around the wall, great experience, the only bad thing is the washrroms they all were disgusting we didn't try the cherry wine as we didn't have time.

Nestled within the walls of a medieval castle, a charming little town of narrow streets with shops and restaurants to discover. The walkway along the perimeter is not for the faint of heart - there’s no safety rails on the 4 foot wide pathway, and being at times 10+ meters above the town, it can be a little scary especially on windy days. Be careful as well for the stone walkways that have been weathered smooth over time (can be slippery). Expect to spend 1.5-3hours there. Amazing views and a couple old churches to see as well.

Located in the enchanting streets of Obidos, Jamon Jamon is a must-visit for those seeking an unforgettable dining experience that showcases the best of Portuguese and Spanish cuisine. The restaurant offers seating on a shaded terrace under a 16th-century aqueduct or in cozy dining rooms with exposed-brick walls. Guests can indulge in traditional tapas and mains, such as pork cheeks braised in red wine, stuffed mushrooms, grilled octopus, duck rice, and fried padron peppers.
Very nice food. We went for the sharing dishes. 2 per person is definitely not too much, as the portions are quite small. The dishes come out the kitchen very quickly, which is a plus in our books. We also loved the service here. Everything was very well done.
CM P — Google review
Excellent food and service but with a few things to keep in mind. Ja!mon Ja!mon was a great meal. The salads were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced and honestly some of the best we’ve ever had. The food overall was top quality, and the presentation was thoughtful without being overdone. Service was also a great. The staff was friendly, informative, and very accommodating with allergies, which we really appreciated. The swordfish and sweet-and-sour salmon were both excellent. Cooked perfectly, well-seasoned, and paired with sides that showed just as much attention to detail. Every dish felt like it had real care behind it, and nothing was rushed or generic. One thing to know: the codfish in a clay pot is a traditional Portuguese dish. It’s not made with fresh fish. The cod is cured in salt for over a year, which gives it a very salty flavor and a dense, gummy texture. This is not a problem with the restaurant it’s just how the dish is meant to be. That said, it may not be for everyone, and it’s worth asking questions before ordering if you’re unfamiliar with it. Prices are on the higher side, especially for lunch, but the quality and service make it worthwhile. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food, and we would absolutely return. This place is a great choice if you’re looking for elevated Portuguese cuisine and professional service in a relaxed setting.

Where to begin……. As per usual we found ourselves arriving right before the kitchen closed. This was an unplanned stop but we are so glad we did stop here! It was the highlight of our 2 week trip. Francisco seated us and even took the time to explain the menu and recommend a bottle of wine. This place is an experience. Amazing views, incredible food and hospitality. Luis was so funny and also very accommodating. Everything we had was amazing. I can’t imagine anything not being delicious here. Presentation was incredible! We hope to return!

Incredible food. We had the cheeks, potato skins, fried runner beans, shishito peppers, and the Iberian ham. The desserts were outstanding as well. Service was great and so welcoming. Make sure to get a reservation as multiple people were turned away because they were booked for the night.

Great place in Obidos for something different than the other restaurants that pretty much all have the same menu. They have tapas style dishes which were all decent!

Fantastic service, very nice and attentive. Nice selection of tapas style dishes, all were quite good but some of them could be richer in flavor.

Nestled just outside the historic walls of Óbidos, A Nova Casa de Ramiro is a charming restaurant that exudes glamour and warmth. With its cave-like ambiance featuring arched ceilings and stone floors, this dining spot offers an inviting atmosphere enhanced by candlelight and elegant chandeliers. The menu showcases exquisite Portuguese cuisine, including must-try dishes like shrimp risotto, wagyu beef, and blackened pork tenderloin drizzled with a delectable almond sauce.
Food was delicious, service was excellent. What more can you want? Highly recommend the scallop & prawn risotto. The chocolate mousse was possibly the best I have had in my life. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Óbidos

When you visit this charming medieval town. You should definitely stop by here to have lunch before heading out and hitting the road again. Did exactly this. The place is extremely charming, good service and also very good food. Would have liked to try more of the menu but felt many of the items would suit a nice dinner better. Therefore if you have the chance, come here for dinner if not! Would recommend this for sure. Cozy and homely feel.

The service was equally impressive; the staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience!

A fantastic evening in this interesting restaurant in a beautiful location. Immediately on arrival we had glasses of spumante put in our hands so we could cheer happy birthday to another customer. Our food was cooked to perfection and so tasty. The wine was amazing and dessert had to be shared as dinner was so good. Pedro made us feel like family and checked in with us on many occasions causing much laughter. Tom Cruise and Sharon Stone 😉

Wonderful restaurant with beautiful decoration and amazing serving. Great food, portions could be bigger. Some items we found overpriced, 4 Olives with smashed Olive mouse €7?.
Michael N — Google review
Great Food and Hospitality! Staff is very responsive to requests and attentive. Just outside the castle walls of Óbidos. Parking can be a challenge, keep that in mind. We live local so we will be back.
Mick M — Google review
The ambiance is great, the service was also really great. The food was well executed but it just sort of wasn't too our taste. They use some cheddar cheese topping for the bacalhau and in my opinion it overwhelmed the dish after a few bites and I had to scrape off the cheese to finish the dish. My wife also commented her dish was also a little too heavy on the strong cheddar. It sort of felt french inspired instead of Portuguese dishes. Again, the dishes were well executed, just not to our tastes.
Christopher S — Google review
Incredible dinner at A Nova Casa de Ramiro. The black pig main course was sensational and fully justified it's tag as their signature dish! The service from the team was perfect - highly personably and very friendly. It was also excellent value in a lovely setting. Will 100% be returning if in Obidos again. Thank you guys for a great night!

Restaurante da Pousada do Castelo de Óbidos is a must-visit for anyone exploring the village. Located inside the medieval castle, it offers a unique dining experience with well-prepared traditional dishes and a great wine selection. The preserved structure and decor transport you back in time, while the enchanting view from the top of the castle at nightfall adds to the unforgettable ambiance.
We were visiting Obidos with a group, and 6 of us walked in for lunch and were able to get a table (as if they were saving it for us). The food and local wine was delicious. I had the octopus rice and my wife had the salmon tacos with the crispy shrimp. The service was a little slow, but they were friendly and welcoming. If you want a sit down lunch while visiting Obidos at a reasonable price, try Pousada do Castelo.
Thomas A — Google review
The atmosphere and the service were top notch. It was a cool experience dining in the castle. But the food was not great. It was well presented but not good. I ordered lamb and it was very salty, no other seasoning or anything. Just blunt.
Anna H — Google review
There were a lot of interesting looking options on the menu, but I ended up being sadly disappointed in my beet spaghetti. It was essentially plain pink noodles. I had to ask for salt. And the some extra pesto sauce (which wasn’t good either). Totally confused about the complete lack of flavor. Overall, staff was nice and accommodating, but I hate the feeling of wbarrasswment when a dinner so bad you can’t eat it without requesting modifications. Barely tolerable. My partner’s steak was delicious, but he said on the “ragged edge” of not being cooked enough when he requested just a bit of pink in the middle.
Heather H — Google review
Very sadly some of the worst food I’ve had in Portugal, and certainly at this price point. 40 EUR set menu for lunch. It was so bad we left and did not eat the main course. To be fair to them they only charged us half - 40 EUR, as only had half the food. The appetiser of mushrooms and peanuts was horrendous. The starter of fish on bread was edible but uninspired. The main of deep fried mackerel was inedible- tasted of old oil and fish did not taste fresh. The hot rice with tomatoe flavour was tasteless with no flavour. There was also a lady vaping at the table behind us, which seems unacceptable in a restaurant . View out the window was nice and staff friendly which is only reason it gets a 2 not a 1 out of 5.
Urban H — Google review
Amazing atmosphere and good historic food, and in some cases a bit too historic. Very good service in the beginning but slightly understaffed/overwhelmed when more customers showed up. Great view over the castle courtyard with the medieval fair, but only from one of the tables.

Firstly we were late and the lunch was about to close. The staff member Simao allowed us to get our order in and he was extremely helpful. Food was AMAZING! Presentation, flavors and freshness. It was fantastic. Views were incredible too from our table. Thoroughly enjoy our lunch there.

This restaurant, located in the Literary Man Obidos Hotel, is perfect for relaxin' with a drink or dinner before exploring the city. The food was mediocre, but the service was great and the atmosphere cozy and charming. If you're in Obidos be sure to check it out!
Amazing food and service!!! We loved the Filet Mignon and Sea Bass meals and our kids loved the Spaghetti Bolognese and the Greek Salad. Don't miss this place! The ambiance was perfect. Thank you!!

"Book and Cook has a wonderful ambiance that sets the mood for a pleasant dining experience. The mushroom pastry starter was a highlight—delicious and well-prepared. The sea bass with ginger was decent, juicy but missing that extra punch of flavour. The duck was plentiful, though I was left wanting more of the Magret. Unfortunately, the experience was let down by the service when it came time to pay; it took a frustrating 20 minutes to sort the bill. Overall, decent food and a lovely setting, but there’s room for improvement in service and some of the dishes."

One of the best meals in years. Duck carpaccio and filet mignon! I asked for a steak knife- the waiter said ok, but you won’t need it…so true, like butter. Husband had wild boar; good yet no where as good as the steak

What a gem! Floor to ceiling books, soft jazz playing, incredible food and excellent service. So glad I found this place. Made my day
Tracy W — Google review
What a pleasant surprise to happen in here for what was a delicious dinner! The restaurant is inside The Literary Man Hotel. All the walls in the public spaces, including the restaurant, are lined floor to ceiling with books. We were lucky that on this night they had live music, a singer guitarist who was wonderful. And the food was just great! I had the best sea bass fillets in my last 4 wks travelling Spain and Portugal. My husband’s tuna tataki was also just perfect. Our side of Greek salad was nice tho a bit on the small side for the price. And the only other small criticism is that our waiter could have been nicer and more helpful answering our questions about the menu. I also loved all the little nods to the theme. All the dishes are named after books and their authors and the dessert menu is presented tucked inside a small cookbook. I would happily eat here again, and we might on our next night in Obidos. Maybe even just to try and get the waiter to crack a smile!
Susan T — Google review
Unfortunately, the menu descriptions were not matched in reality. "Potato souffle" turned out to be crinkle cut fries (cold). Crispy pork belly was charred but not crispy. Squid-ink foam was missing. The service was, however, helpful and we were not charged for my wife's dish which was only partially eaten. The atmosphere was beautiful.

XII Apostolos is a quaint Italian restaurant in Obidos with delicious dishes for all palates. From pasta to pizza, this spot knows how to hit all the marks. Friendly staff makes it easy to enjoy your meal, and there's even table service available if you'd like. While it can get busy on weekends, reservations are recommended for those who want to avoid waiting. As always, full bar service is available for those who want more than just bread and water!
**An Authentic Italian Gem – The Best Pizza in Town!** XII APOSTOLOS is hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever visited – and without a doubt, the best pizza spot around! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm, friendly service and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you sit inside or enjoy the charming outdoor seating, the ambiance is perfect for a relaxed meal with family, friends, or that special someone. Now, let’s talk about the **food** – because that’s where this place truly shines. 🍕 **The pizza** Absolutely phenomenal. Thin, crispy crusts with just the right amount of char, fresh ingredients, and bold, balanced flavors. Every bite tastes like it came straight from a wood-fired oven in Italy. It’s everything a pizza should be. 🥗 **Salads** are fresh and flavorful – a great light start. 🍝 **Pasta and risottos** are rich, perfectly cooked, and made with clear attention to detail. The mushroom risotto and the classic spaghetti pomodoro are must-tries! Service is attentive and kind – the staff speak multiple languages and truly go the extra mile to make you feel at home. Prices are fair for the quality, and portions are just right. If you love Italian food, **XII APOSTOLOS** is a must. Delicious, authentic, and unforgettable. Can’t wait to come back!
Fahim C — Google review
The staff was quite friendly and the salad was fresh and tasty. The pizza, however, was not typically Italian, as it was made from ready-made puff pastry. There was also quite a lot of cheese and garlic on it, although I had specifically asked for this to be reduced. Overall, not very convincing and not a bargain. Even the grissini were charged for.

First full day (sort of) in Portugal. Wandered around the city inside the wall at Obidos, and had our first dinner here. Great drinks, good pizzas and pastas. Everyone left happy and full.
Carrie M — Google review
Just because of location can sell overpriced food Cute ambient and charming staff but aperolspritz was missing bubbles, salad was with to much oil and pizza kinda ok You will not stay hungry but not expect more than good in general
The O — Google review
Unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience. The pizza is made with a rolling pin, even though they advertise it as Italian pizza. In the end, the water cost €3.50. The children ate some breadsticks that were lying on the table, which were also included in the bill. So neither the food nor the service — definitely not worth the price. I do not recommend it.
Psycholog M — Google review
Not completely happy with the experience, I had a Pasta alforno and it wasn't very authentic, it also lacked meat as most of the dishes we ordered. We had a few pizzas, which were very average for an Italian restaurant. Their was an Indian flavour to most the dishes as well, which was unexpected. For the price and for a cash only place, it was definitely not what we hoped for.
JC G — Google review
It is quite small but in my experience very good restaurant. I had bruschetta and sea food pizza. All very good. House wine can be a bit better. Prices are tourism season prices but again very acceptable. It is simply at the heart of the town. The lady is very kind and people are very polite.
Mustafa A — Google review
Host was somewhat rude. Even though no one was at restaurant, they made the two of us sit across from each other even there was a couple behind us that were sitting next to each other. No one else showed up while we were there as it was raining. We got pizza which had the very minimum of toppings on it. Pizza was not cut for us. Small water very expensive. Mediocre experience at best.

Decent food in a very nice location at the green terrace hidden from touristic street. Quite expensive in comparison to other restaurants nearby in Óbidos.

Very much enjoyed our experience and food! Sadly we were too hungry to take plenty of photos so just one of the satisfying espresso at the end.

Day 2

Center of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Medieval Market of Óbidos, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Bar Ibn Errik Rex. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

It was definitely one of the highlights for this summer. We opted out for a full experience with VIP passage and banquet. The money was worth it. We were dressed and treated like nobles. We were part of the procession and had the best view and treatment. Feast was amazing as well, delicious, lots and lots of food and drinks. Falcon show was a complete surprise. The theme is different each year, which makes it even more interesting. Loved this year addition of hospital and zones that show different aspects of life. More guidance/ instructions would be nice in the beggining ( map where we need to choose costumes, there were long waiting line to try and rent a costume and we weren't sure where to meet the group, so come earlier). Other than that, it was an unforgettable experience. Obidos is a magical place

A fun excursion. Worth the trip inside the village to see the vendors and experience the medieval atmosphere. Can see the Moor influence from the 10-13th Century. Loved all the costumed people. The walk up the stairs to walk on the wall is worth the view.

If you’re anywhere near Óbidos in July (or even outside the festival dates, since the location is stunning year-round), you can’t miss the Medieval Festival. It’s one of the best-organised events I’ve ever attended — for a whole day, it feels like you’ve stepped out of the modern world and straight into the Middle Ages. What can you expect? You can rent traditional costumes for €8 for the whole day, enjoy authentic Portuguese food in real taverns at very affordable prices, and watch incredible shows all day long — from duels to dances to horseback tournaments. There are plenty of stalls selling unique items and souvenirs, and I loved every moment of it! One important thing to note: the full-day ticket costs €10, but there’s an additional fee if you want to access the animal area.

Medieval Market of Óbidos Type: Event Time spent: 7-12 hours Parking: available (outside of the castle) WC: available Entrance: 10 EUR Live music, shows, entertainment, traditional food, and medieval environment, that "makes plebeians feel like kings". Well-organized event with affordable prices. (-)The festival finishes at 00:00 or 02:00, and there is no public transport after 20:00 to get to Caldas or Lisbon.

We were lucky enough to arrive to Óbidos on the last day of the Medieval Festival and oh what a treat it was! It was hands down one of the most memorable days we had in Portugal and the very best medieval fair I’ve ever joined. Excellent atmosphere in a beautiful setting, mouth watering food, lots of fun activities and kind, funny people you can just have a random conversation with. Don’t miss it if you are around !

Don’t miss this event if you’re in Obidos at the right time! Buy tickets ahead of time and they’re a little cheaper. You can rent costumes for 7 euro per day just outside of the wall (it took us a while to find this). For rental, you have to leave behind id. It’s almost like dinner theatre - lots of shows to watch.

Mood Lodging @ 👑 Mercado Medieval 2022 🏰 The entire village is celebrating, with lots of music, vibrant colours, different smells and medieval outfits. An historical event, where we can journey and experience the Middle Ages and where we have hundreds of incredible animation and entertainment, performance and theater groups. And the celebration doesn't end there, the local associations provided delicious food, meat and fish dishes, sauces and seasonings, breads with chorizo or codfish, leaves the mouths watering to the attentive eyes of the people. The glasses overflow with wine and beer for the celebration that promises to be epic and through whole the night. This is how another edition of one of the most anticipated events of the year passed, this year was special, a lot of expectation for a return that we can say was excellent and that leaves us impatient and already eager for the next year. Congratulations to Óbidos and to all those involved who provided a great journey and experience for those who visited our village. We are already counting down the days for the next year...

The worst nightmare I’ve ever witnessed in Portugal: Excess of people making it difficult to get into the rides, which you have to pay separately from the main ticket, so you get charged twice. Lack of organisation and structure. It’s not safe if you have small children!!! Extremely overpriced and you aren’t able to pay cashless, because there is no service and then the atms inside don’t have any cash. Definitely not worth the visit to this event, you’re much better off in just visiting the village itself.

It was nice, the Xmas Harry Potter event is a bit lame tho, it's mostly just normal stuff with with Harry Potter stuff around it, good for kids tho, and there's way too many people if you don't go early(close to opening time).

I recommend you to eat 10€ instead of paying here to enter. Everything is over crowded you have to wait in line for hours…. Basically you can’t access anything they promised. Waste of time and money very poorly organised because of greed and ambition of earning money. Just act like you went inside and saw everything or just look at the photos, that will be enough experience …. Just don’t go here and instead use 10 euro to drink or eat outside….
Ertuğrul A — Google review
Queues are everywhere. For instance we spent one hour and 20 mins for snow tubing. When we got our turn the staff wanted to close the gate (it was 5 mins before Vila’s ending) but hopefully we could negotiate. The place is totally, no… TOTALLY crowded. There is no any navigation, no any managing. I will never come back there and do not advise anybody to go there. Very poor experience which is not worth its money and your time.

Avoid Vila Natal! Vila Natal event is very weak organized and you simply overpay for everything. The ticket was not possible to be bought with small discount on webpage to avoid queues on the same day when You arrive (not feasible to buy previous day because Covid test is now required). The bungee trampoline is supervised by a young fella who chats with other kids from side and looks into his smartphone more than he looks after safety of jumpers and does not control 5min at all so the queues are abnormal. If you want to take thecaroussel and you have 2 years old kid you must pay for the kid (who cannot take the caroussel alone and You should be the one who looks after him/her) and yourself. The caroussel is supervised by unpolite fella who pretends that he does not speak English despite he understands everything and laughs on you when you try to explain. It was not the case with train where you need to pay only for the kid and it is supervised by a polite lady. There is no INFORMATION staff available when You are inside! It is inadequate that You need to pay for the entrance and then for every movement You make. The event is overestimated. Better enjoy just visiting the Obidos or Wonderland Lisboa where there is no entrance fee and it is much better organized.

Bar Ibn Errik Rex is a unique and cozy drinking spot located on Rua Direita in Obidos. The cave-like interior is adorned with vintage spirit bottles, antique weapons, and captivating wall art that provides a medieval rooftop view. This local hotspot offers the opportunity to savor homemade ginja, a traditional Portuguese liquor made from sour cherries, along with flaming chorizo and cheese snacks. Visitors can also engage with the owner to learn about ginja production secrets.
Very unique bar and bought my ginja there. The owner is third generation sharing some history and stories about the bar.

If you came to a medieval town in rural Portugal and you don’t enjoy a flaming sausage with an affordable glass of port, then I would suggest the problem is with you and not this fine establishment. The owner is wonderful, the ambience is unmatched, and you will become instant friends with everyone else in the place. Shout out to them for saving my favorite rain jacket which I left there after probably one too many glasses of port. This place is friggin awesome!!
William B — Google review
There are so many ginjinha joints in this town and others, but this one is truly unique. The beverage here is (in our opinion - four adults) the best we’ve tasted. Not overly sweet, and more ‘full-bodied’ in character. But what sets this place apart from the others is the owner and his unique shop. The owner is a class-act, with a healthy sense of humor. He was charming and offered to take our picture as a family (and what a great trick he has to capture the best smiles!). Just a terrific man. Plus, his place has a ‘pirate’s cove’ kind of feel with all the bottles and woodwork in his shop. Highly recommend!

Bruno the owner of this family bar was fluent in several languages and was great with conversation about history here and Portugal in general. He also lives here within the castle walls. You should check it out!!

Not sure how this place is so highly rated. We came in for lunch for 2 adults and 2 children. The chicken in the Cesar Salad was dry, the sea bream and the vegetables were not very good. Both our kids left most of their hamburger and linguini Bolognese uneaten, and said it didn’t taste good. The service was ok, nothing more. Quite disappointed and would not recommend.

Óbidos it’s one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal.. the streets are so charming and beautiful, small cafes and smiling people welcome you. The meal was perfect.. all the staff (3 people) was so friendly and helpful. Go visit there !

Been here on a Sunday evening and it was EXCELLENT. We had 3 courses: bread (you receive two different kind of breads) with olives and oil, main was the cod with corn bread topping (delicious! And you can choose 2 of ~5-6 sides), and for dessert we had some pear-compote and chocolate cake (it was more like some mousse au chocolate with some crispy biscuit!) - the combination of fruit and chocolate is awesome. Everything was really on point if not exceeded our expectations. The service was really kind too, so we felt really taken care of well. Would always come back! The only thing is: they could really add some decoration to the tables. Or a candle ;)

Brilliant! Best meal in Portugal. Salmon Lasagne - simply incredible.! Tons of excellent moist salmon with just enough cheese & pasta. Dessert was chocolate cake - melts in your mouth (honestly). Unreal pastry with just the right complexity of chocolate. To top it off, serving a full house of 20+ guests there was only one waiter and one chef. Considerate, excellent English, and quick with service and response. Quite impressive! Thanks for a wonderful meal & a delightful experience.

Villa Restaurant & Terrace Bar offers a professional and attentive service in a romantic and well-decorated setting. The menu features simple yet delicious dishes, catering to various dietary preferences including vegan and vegetarian options. Guests have praised the fresh ingredients and efficient service, with particular highlights being the fish soup and octopus dishes. The restaurant's pleasant ambiance, both indoors and in the courtyard, along with an extensive drink selection, adds to the overall dining experience.
We chose this place because we are a vegan and a vegetarian and a lot of the restaurants in Obidos only seem to cater for meat eaters. We were greeted warmly by the friendly and efficient waitress and the manager. We had a lovely starter and both chose the tagliatelle for our main, which was delicious. All the ingredients tasted freshly made and were very well presented. Even though the waitress worked alone she was attentive, friendly and professional. The food was delicious and we were sent a free glass of ginja from the manager at the end of the night, which was a lovely touch. We highly recommend this restaurant, they accommodated our dietary needs with ease. It is a little expensive for Portugal, however, we feel the service and attention to detail make it worth it. We would definitely eat here again.

We've booked this restaurant for a Sunday lunch for 8 persons. The place is very well located, inside the walls of the old City on Óbidos. The decoration and style is simple but with good taste and fancy. The food, is tradicional portuguese, but served on a small quantity. We ordered several dishes and all where either good or very good. The price is a little bit high. Or biggest concern was the service. It took 50 minutes to serve us or dishes, although the restaurant was with only more 4 tables filled. The wine also took much time and was too cold (for a red wine). I can only recommend, if you order your food in advance.
André S — Google review
Huge disappointment, 5 of us were looking forward to a nice upscale meal in the beautiful courtyard as booked. Instead the seated us inside, insisted on it and refused to seat us outside. Then both main dishes we asked for were unavailable. The food was mixed, the Lemmon risotto with sea bass was good the vegetable fettuccine was nearly inedible and the duck rice was just ok. Service was also not great. The waiter seemed inexperienced in fine dining. Loads of restaurants in Obidos at 1/2-1/3 the price. Still mad about not being in the courtyard!! BTW we are all local and will never go back.

A simple Portuguese restaurant. Efficient and friendly service and very tasty food at reasonable prices. Good red wine too! You can see into the kitchen so nothing is hidden.
