This is I believe the best museum to visit. Shoes are required to be taken off on entrance. You do not need to book in advance, you can merely turn up and pay. Its extremely interesting especially with the animal exhibits. Some seating inside. Very informative.

The Svalbard Museum is small but full of interesting information. It’s nicely presented, showing how the islands have grown and changed over time, and how they became a tourist destination. You can easily visit it in about an hour, and there’s also a small gift shop if you want to pick up a souvenir. Definitely worth a stop while you’re in Longyearbyen!

Nice little museum that gives you a great overview of Svalbard history! Everything from exploration, whaling, trapping, world war 2, research, climate change, prehistory, biology and modern life in Svalbard. Definitely worth a stop while you’re in town. I spent around 30-45 minutes there and was happy out!

It is a museum that collects animals that live and have lived in the past. It does not appear to be stuffed, but rather a simulation that is realistic and worth studying. There are many photo spots.

Place with history. Really delicious reindeer steak, which definitely I can recommend (raw). I also try starter with seal, and it was surprise for me. I heard many bad things about dish with seal, but here it was really good. And a meal eaten in a cozy greenhouse-like room it's definitely a pros.

We ate here about 3 or 4 times, it was so good. The homemade bread is delicious, as well as the soup, which changes daily. The pizzas were huge and delicious, as were the cakes. It's the world's most northern chocolatier, so of course I tried a couple, which were delicious. It's great that you can just order even 1, if you want. They sell various skin products, furs, skins, knitting yarns, and felted items - all reasonably priced.

Fruene Café in Svalbard is a charming spot that blends a café, bar, and chocolate factory all in one. While they serve a selection of simple but well-prepared dishes and custom-made sandwiches, the real highlight is the sweet treats. Their chocolates and pastries are exceptional, with handcrafted bonbons that are almost too pretty to eat. If you’re looking for a unique Svalbard souvenir, their beautifully packaged chocolates make for a perfect gift. Cozy and welcoming, it’s the ideal place to warm up with a coffee and indulge in something sweet after exploring the Arctic chill.

Lovely coffee shop/ deli. Very friendly staff and a good choice of food. Salad bar and some cakes as well as chocolates in the form of polar bears and now dinasours as well. They have their own brand of creams that are really good ( bought them all).

Fruen is my go-to spot to grab a great lunch in Longyearbyen. Epic sandwiches made from scratch and to-order. Brilliant baked goods. Decadent chocolates. Atmosphere to die-for. There is nothing like it in the world!

Cozy, busy, self service café that also sells some cute items. I enjoyed a smoothie, a chocolate brownie and a salmon sandwich. Many options in savoury and sweet.

Cosy cafe, good spot to grab a quick bite there during a hike. The sandwiches are freshly made and large. The vanilla bun was fresh out of the oven and rather delicious. Very reasonably priced too.

We visited twice. Once just for a drink and the second time for dinner. The atmosphere is lovely. Very warm and modern vibe. We arrived around 9:30pm on a Friday and found they were only serving burgers and fries at that time. The food was good but we would have liked the full menu, they moved to bar service only at 10pm. Drinks were good and service as well.

I really enjoyed my visit here in the short time that I stayed on Svalbard. Prices here will actually cheaper than what I was paying in Oslo which surprised me. The local beers were awesome and the burger I had was really top quality. The absolutely lovely lady serving me came from Michigan in the USA and her service was perfect thank you so much!

This was the first dinner we had in Svalbard. The service was good and efficient. We had the soup of the day(onion), catch of the day(duck) and a burger. All were delicious! especially the soup. The prices were reasonable and good atmosphere. We arrived around 8:30 with no reservation and got seated right away.

We had brunch there. I love the coay environment with the traditional style. Their croque madame was quite good and my friend had a pizza. Really liked their glasses. Good friendly service.

Nice dinner in a beautiful location welcoming with old mine theme! Really particular location with wooden interiors and old mine theme, it's located in the main road of the city. I eating in the first dinner the plate of the day with local meat and in the second I eating a very tasty pizza always accompanied from the local great beer.

Went on 05/08 for some dinner after a knackering dog sled on wheels ride. The veggie burger was very disappointing, it was a glorified bean and nut roast , square in shape and definitely couldn’t be defined as a burger. The burger or the bun didn’t taste of good quality at all. The chips didn’t come with mayo but when I asked for it, I was told by the lady serving us that there was an extra charge!! Nowhere dining in Svalbard for 5 days (or anywhere in the world!) did we ever get charged for mayo!! Get charged 33kr for the smallest pot of mayo which was outrageous. Didn’t see extra charge for mayo on the menu either, am sure it was added on because we aren’t locals..!! Upon arguing the lady insisted that it was a charge which we didn’t believe was it wasn’t anywhere. Visit the Stationen or Fruene for better meals and avoid this place.

Everything was exceptional - but the atmosphere here gets 10 stars! Warm, cozy, eclectic - and who doesn't want a beer in a polar bear pint glass!

Great authentic spicy Thai food in Svalbard! We loved it so much that we went twice. We ordered their Tom Yum soup, Fried rice, Gaeng ped, spring rolls, and ordered them spicy. They executed it to perfection! They even customized the dishes for the vegetarian amongst us, and also added select veggies i.e. bamboo shoots, tofu as requested. A welcome change from burgers, pizzas, and superb service to match. Conveniently located in the Longyearbyen city center, across from the Coop (grocery store). Highly recommend!! Food so good it brought back memories of my time in Thailand... This must be the most northerly Thai restaurant in the world and it's great that it's such a fantastic one! We don't normally eat multiple meals day after day in the same restaurant when we travel but for this place, we made an exception! My compliments to the super friendly operators.

I’ve been traveling all over the world on a cruise ship for the past 6 months, and this is the best meal I’ve had. It was absolutely delicious. The service and atmosphere were also perfect. The portions are large. The prices are very reasonable.

I can't believe that you can enjoy authentic Thai food in one of the most remote places on Earth!! I had a pad kra pao Thai style and it was very tasty. The spiciness was exactly like in Bangkok. The fried egg I think is the best I've ever tasted in my life. The service was also very friendly and welcoming, and she was proactive in offering free mineral water, even when we didn't order any drinks. The food came really fast. It warms my heart to hear the staff speaking Thai, a really beautiful language. The place also has a nice atmosphere and it was lovely to see a small statue of Tossakan. Overall, this place is so amazing, I would come here over and over again!

This place was sooo good. First time having Thai food and i was a huge fan of their Pad Thai. Its inside the shopping center Lompen, even though it says on the outside that the center closes at 16:00 on sunday the Thai will be open till later.

Such a great spot with super friendly staff! I ordered the vegan Pad Thai and asked for extra veggies instead of the usual meat and eggs — the server was incredibly kind and happy to accommodate. When the dish first came out with eggs by mistake, he immediately apologized and had a fresh, egg-free one made for me without any fuss. The food was so fresh and flavorful — I really appreciated the care and service. Definitely recommend this place!

Longyearbyen is a small place with exceptional restaurants. The grilled torsk was outstanding and possibly the best I’ve had; my only complaint was that the serving size wasn’t larger. The restaurant also features selections from the local Svalbard Bryggeri, the world’s northernmost brewery, which, along with the friendly staff, makes this place a destination within a destination. Much to my disappointment, though, they had whale on the menu.

Food was great, the steak was well seasoned as was their fish n’ chips and ribs. The dessert was the highlight however. The crumble was delicious with the heat, texture and flavors of the crumble combining with the ice cream cool. Server was distracted but the food was worth it.

Found inside the shopping centre with the blue entrance. This is primarily a restaurant. Despite us only choosing a basic dish we found this to be the best meal we had all week. It was extremely tasty and the environment was comfortable with rocket fast service. Its not as busy during the day as it is in the evening. I definitely recommend and would return without hesitation.

We had tiro burgers and we like them a lot. A good selections of beers. The atmosphere is really cool , good vibes and nice music. The waitress has been so lovely and gentle. Price reasonable. Honestly every place here is amazing.

Visited September 2025. A great pub/ restaurant in the centre of town. Contemporarily furnished with a wide selection of drinks and a menu that included several whale dishes. Pricing is comparative to any of the larger cities in the UK, none of which has a view to match that of the surrounding mountains. If you are staying more than a day you'll undoubtedly end up here for a meal - you won't be disappointed.

Very interesting story and a nice change of pace! We walked in and were greeted by two quite charismatic guides who sat us down and talked to us a bit about the history of the brewery and how they changed the local laws to allow for a brewery in Svalbard. Overall it was quite informative, and if you like bitter craft beers you’re in for a treat. I personally didn’t like most the beers I tried but I’m not a craft beer drinker generally and I enjoyed the experience nonetheless. You don’t actually see much of the brewery other than through the window from the top floor, but it’s not huge so it’s not a big problem. There are a few things I think could’ve been better: They serve the beers one by one so you can’t really go between them and compare unless you save some of each beer (which means they get warm) I was solo and they sat me down at a table with a big group, so I felt a bit isolated. Maybe could’ve been nicer to put all the solo people together. As other reviews mentioned, there’s no hotel pickup or snacks, but they’re likely running a thin profit margin producing beers up in the arctic so I can forgive them for that!

our group had a wonderful time at the tasting. It’s not a tour, it’s a talk, but the talk is really good and the tasting room overlooks the brewery. Francesca was excellent - she told stories in a clever way, and answered all of our questions about the beer, the brewery, and life in Svalbard. We arrived very tired and not that excited about one more event for the day, but we are so glad we came. The beer was good. The souvenirs were good. The guide was great. Highly recommend.

What a WONDERFUL BREWERY experience ❤️ We were friends of 4, purchased beer tasting tour 😋 with Charlie 🤩 He is absolutely amazing of what he is doing and presenting beer properly with style ! 😀 Everyone loved him, including us, of course. He is super funny and knowledgeable with so much advice. We will definitely return in a few years to check how Vodka progresses is doing 😀🤣 Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for wonderful experiences in brewery. Awesome brewery in a magical setting. Excellent craft beers, very knowledgeable staff hosting the tastings. Great atmosphere, super cool view of the fermenters. An absolute must visit when in Svalbard!

Too bad they are only open on Friday afternoon. All other days of the week, they are closed (in early June). The best beer was their Christmas beer. Definitely try it.

I walked by the brewery but it wasn’t open for tasting. I did have the pleasure, though, of enjoying the stout and the pilsner while in Longyearbyen, where it’s the local beer.

Visiting Svalbard Kirke was one of the most special church experiences I’ve ever had. This small, humble wooden church feels deeply connected to the spirit of the community. It’s not just a place of worship — it plays an important role in bringing people together in this remote, Arctic environment. There’s a simple warmth and peace inside that makes you feel immediately welcome. Knowing how much it means to the locals makes it even more touching. If you visit Longyearbyen, I highly recommend stepping inside — it’s a beautiful reminder of the strength and heart of this unique community.

Svalbard Church is the northernmost church in the world with the exception of a Russian Orthodox chapel on Franz Josef Land. The church was consecrated in 1958. One of the northernmost churches in the world. Set against an absolutely stunning backdrop. You need to leave your shoes downstairs as is customary in Svalbard. Absolutely beautiful, peaceful and cosy inside. It was a shame we missed the classical concert which was on in the church earlier that day.

This is a unique restaurant. Since the moment you enter it feels special. It is like entering an oasis in the middle of a desert. The tropical plants the glass sealing, the artsy decoration so relaxing. Staff super attentive. Then the food is divine. Reindeer stake. Whale,seal, cooked to perfection. Grilled salmon. Then dessert. The pear cooked on wine and the cheese cake are scrumptious. I had my birthday diner there and they surprised me with the cheese cake decorated with a "happy birthday " lettering syrup around it. Also the staff singing happy birthday and ofcourse people dining joining in . Unforgettable experience. Planning to comeback . This is a truly unique place not to be missed when in svalbard .

Anastasia made sure that we were blessed with beautiful service, in a very cozy atmosphere. I loved the rooms and the communal showers, the beds were especially comfy. Can’t wait to return.

Today I chose Mary Ann's Restaurant for my dinner. I can only recommend Mary Ann's Restaurant, a very cozy restaurant. The decor is reminiscent of the great days of mining with many exhibits, books and historical photos. The staff is friendly and accommodating. For dinner today I had salmon as an appetizer. The starter consists of 3 types of meat. From left to right reindeer, seal and minke whale. Main course, ringed seal with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious, apart from the seal where the chef had not removed the tendons from some pieces.

Absolutely amazing restaurant in Svalbard. Very nice location and food. Try their arctic smoked trio of reindeer, whale, and seal. Only place in Svalbard where you can get these typical local meats. Recommended booking in advance.

This place couldn't be any cooler! What a neat thing to do with the retired pups. They were super sweet, social animals even with all the busy movement all around. Their caramel cheesecake was so good. Prices are exactly what you would expect of Svalbard. Not cheap nor do I expect it to be. But this place was a lovely, busy little shop. The food and drink were excellent and meticulously crafted with love and great attention to detail. This little paw prints on the coffees were adorable. This place is super busy as you would expect, so I did try to be quick so as to allow others to experience told as well. They have an impressive assortment of souvenirs to purchase as well. You are expected to remove your shoes before walking inside which I personally found DELIGHTFUL but my SIL turned around and didn't go in because of that so I suppose it depends on you. Overall this was the highlight of my trip to Svalbard. I’m happy this exists. These dogs live a good retired life. Thanks for taking such great care of them.

This is a cafe, with free roaming huskies inside. The cafe itself isn't very big, so space is limited. There were three dogs inside on my visit. Crucial rules displayed on entry, and shoes off required. The cakes were especially nice, and the dogs were very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Very cute cafe. Gets extremely busy and be prepared to wait. The tea was great. The cookies could be improved a bit in taste. The staff are friendly. We were lucky to get cuddles from the resident furries - the adorable huskies Tequila and Fjord.

I loved this place so much. At Café Huskies you leave your shoes at the door – a local tradition here on Svalbard that instantly makes everything feel warmer and cozier. I had a hot chocolate, my book, and a window seat, watching the quiet world outside while the huskies dozed nearby. There’s something so gentle and peaceful about this café – friendly people, soft atmosphere, and a feeling of being exactly where you’re meant to be. I’ll definitely come back. 🐾☕️❄️

What a lovely place. Yuki and Tequila were so lovely. It's a nice place to relax. The cappuccino was absolutely amazing. It can get crowded though and the space is small, so try not to come in a large group.

A cute, buzzy cafe with three gorgeous, gentle huskies. The cakes were home made and fresh (we had the apple and rhubarb cake) while the drink selection was really interesting. So much puppy love, we might go back tomorrow!

Great airport. Security process is very fast, plenty of places to sit, and lots of great views towards the mountains. The gift shop has some nice souvenirs if you need some last minute gifts.

The northmost airport in the world and the most relaxing one . It feels almost as if you are waiting for a private plane . So tiny and easy to come and go . With all the services of big airports . Perfect ! .

A small airport. Plenty of parking outside. Despite its size I found it to run pretty smoothly. A small cafe in the lounge as well as a little shop. It was comfortable and convenient and easier to navigate than a bigger airport.

Svalbard Airport is small but very special — there’s something unforgettable about arriving here, so close to the Arctic wilderness. When you depart, there’s a cozy little shop and café in the transit area, perfect for a last coffee or souvenir before heading back to the world beyond the ice.

Fast and friendly staff, great refreshment/store available while awaiting flight-and well staffed! No worries about coffee, drinks, small food items, or last-minute souvenirs. Nice places to sit and enjoy, with restrooms close by.

As the northernmost commercial airport, flights to Helsinki and elsewhere are easily accessible. The airport has a small gift shop, cafe and plenty of seating. There’s a balcony for added seating and quiet time.

What I liked: the prices for chocolates and other groceries were the same that at the supermarket in the center. The Wi-Fi was good. What I didn’t like, and the reason why I gave it an overall 1 star. The security check takes three times longer than another Norwegian airports, statistic show. This is because, at this airport, passengers are asked to remove cables. which they have not packed for. As a result a tremendous amount of time is wasted. Likely, the security lady we had in this shift was more thorough than was necessary. Or else they just have a very old scanner and they need to invest in a newer one or change the process to improve.See what other passengers mentioned

Fine dining restaurant located within the Radisson hotel. Tried their salmon and cod, and the fishes were fresh and delicious. Price was about NOK 400 to 600 per person if you only order the main course, and serving time takes about an hour to two. Reservation is recommended before visiting. Seating space was spacious with good window view.

Fantastic dinner here. We reserved a table 1 day prior and got sat right next to the window with a lovely view. Cod croquettes to start, reindeer stew and cod for mains. With a chocolate dessert. Everything was top notch, and the price was reasonable for the quality! The atmosphere, food and service were excellent.

The food is sometimes undercooked, the plating looks great but some portions are small. You have to wait for the food to be served.

Decent restraunt with a good food and drinks selection. Prices are pretty reasonable compared to what I've come to expect, so that was nice. They have beer from both Mack (Tromso) and the local Svalbard brewery. Seal tataki was a good starter, and the reindeer burger was alright, nothing spectacular but a very, very generous portion size. Service was polite and quick but maybe lacked a bit of enthusiasm. There's "the world's most nothernly pub" just next door, which is very convenient for grabbing a drink before or after your meal.

We loved everything about this place, but the server Maya was the highlight of the night! She was so personable, professional, and friendly. Our brief conversation with her was a highlight on our experience in Longyearbyen. Service was incredible and the food divine. I had lunch buffet. Everything was fresh and tasty. They were trying to feed 250 people in 2 hours. In a town of 2500 people, which is impressive.

Seriously, if you have time while I’m Longyearbeyan, drop in here for a beautiful margarita and the best tacos we’ve had outside Mexico. Damn they were good!! Watch the hot sauce. It got me.

Either hosting our large group of guests with streetfood outside somewhere or cooking for our guide team the best pizza in town.. It doesn't matter.. Visit Tio Muncho for honest food made with care. The portion are good and the quality even better!

Great tacos, friendly owner and staff, reasonable prices.

I understand the attractiveness of Mexican food. However, they could add a Norwegian flair to the dishes. For example, a cod fish ceviche. The ambience and view are amazing. The cashier was a very kind and amiable person. Her demeanor leaves a very good impression.

Dined here in early December 2024. An unexpected restaurant in one of the world's most remote locations. Crab bisque was amazing. Reindeer heart interesting. Seal balls - laughable to say out loud, but far too fishy and creamy. Smaller balls might have worked to provide crispiness. Definitely do a tour of the building and old cinema.

We went for a family dinner at Restaurant Huset in Longyearbyen, where Spanish chef Alberto is leading the kitchen. We ate in a beautiful private room inside a historic building, which made the evening feel extra special. The 14-course tasting menu didn’t feel long at all – every dish was excellent, well presented on real fossils from the area! Our kids (5 and 8) had a shorter version of the menu and loved it. There’s a fantastic playroom upstairs with all kinds of games, so they were entertained and we adults could really enjoy the meal. It was amazing to try almost 100% Arctic products – fish, meat, seafood, and lots of beautifully prepared fermented elements. The desserts stood out too: not overly sweet, but fresh and full of flavor, the perfect way to end the meal. I also got to enjoy a couple of outstanding French wines – the wine cellar here is outstanding. If you’re visiting Longyearbyen, this is absolutely a place you shouldn’t miss if you enjoy gourmet food at 78 degrees North.

Amazing dinner at Huset, great culinary journey in the heart of Svalbard. I can't recommend this place enough. Loved it - Scallop and Monkfish were amazing. They were very accommodating with a vegetarian (who hates mushrooms) and pescatarian set menus!

It most likely will be different experience than you expect. Service was amazing, food was ok. The place is big and feels very empty.

The menu looked really amazing when I visited but wasn't sure if I needed booking and walk ins appropriate. Next time I will go in. So until then 5 star for menu and looked like they had amazing wine menu. And the location is quite remote from town. Was a little scary walking there alone in the dark on the less travelled road in svalbard

Karlsberger Pub is probably the most famous — and maybe the best — pub in Longyearbyen. There are very few shots you can’t try here, but what really makes it special is the cozy, unique atmosphere. It’s the kind of place you just have to visit if you’ve made it all the way to Longyearbyen!

Very cute place. Decent beer selection. I heard this is the main bar for everyone to hang out. I can totally see it. Coal tables were very unique.

It’s a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. The decor centers around coal mining, the former mainstay of Svalbard’s economy. The people are very friendly—make friends with one local and soon you’ll be friends with everyone. Also hosts a fine selection of offerings from the Svalbard Bryggeri, which are brewed in Longyearbyen.

As others have said, a really unexpected place, located in the main tourist shop centre. It's opposite the Stationen, a much larger place, and both are worth a look for different reasons, but we chose here and it was very good. Local Svalbard beers on tap (as they are in pretty much every bar in town!), plus some guest cans in the fridge. Great decor of mining and even a mining truck full of coal as a table! The collection of spirits is amazing, it must be said, with huge lists of whisky, rum, akavit and pretty much anything else on offer. It also seemed to be full of locals, which is a really good thing to see. Liked it here, I'd definitely put it to the top of the list of bars to visit here.

Great Bar!!! Overwhelming amount of Drinks. Nice ambient and good athmosphere. If u want to meet the inhabitants u come here. But if u stay too long you spent a lot of money for great whiskey and some serious deeptalk about the city and its history :) If i come again to Longyearbyen, I surely visit thia pub again.

Visiting the Svalbard Global Seed Vault was a unique and powerful experience. Even though you can only see it from the outside, there are a few information boards nearby that explain its importance and how it was founded. Standing there, next to this “Noah’s Ark” of seeds, really makes you appreciate how vital it is for the future of our planet. It’s simple, remote, and incredibly meaningful — definitely worth a stop if you’re in Longyearbyen.

You cannot access the vault so you are limited to only explore the outside, and there is nothing to do or see other than the exterior door. There are no restrooms (so plan ahead). That said, this is a really cool thing to see in person and if you’re going to Svalbard you really should stop by and see the vault entrance and you can already read the little infographics about the vault and some context about how important it is both for Svalbard and the global scientific community.

Sure, they do not let turists enter the place but to witness the existence of this massive repository with the magnificent Greeland sea on the other side is truly an experience in itself.

Note: It's not The Seed Vault, which is at the foot of the mountain, near the Longyearbyean Airport (pictured)! The ice pack pics are from an area northwest of Svalbard, towards Greenland, as Google Maps does not allow adding pictures to an arbitrary location.

You can easily reach the Global See Vault from Longyerbyean by walk if you want to. Nobosy can enter inside ; the best is to see it in the night when the abstract creation from a norvigian artist reflecting the lights create a vision like Aurora boreal.

Even if you can't enter the vault you should see it. There aren't any toilets and you can only get here with a gunned guide.

Is kept closed for public. Safely keeps seeds from various countries and preserved due to naturally very cold temperatures. When in disaster seeds from here can be taken by respective countries. It's said that Syria and Ukraine have taken seeds from here till now. Also the closest that rivals USA and North Korea can be near is here.... their seeds are placed near to each other's.

It’s more like a bar, not a pub. Small and cozy, located within the Radisson Blu hotel. The staff is very friendly and service is great. Food options are very limited, although I would recommend four cheeses pizza - it was good. We tried several cocktails here - Inca Sol did not disappoint, Julep 78 and Readheads Kiss were good but more for experience than for their taste.

Lovely pub, one of the most northern in the world. Very cosy inside. The staff are very courteous and friendly. The pizzas were big portions and there were a number of options for non-meat eaters which was great.

Being the only pub in the world northern, you can just cooked it real just bad and don’t care about it. But they did not do the bad way but I fact they are quite good at it. Give it a try!

We tried this restaurant on our first night (of three) in Longyearbyen, and due to the fantastic food and great service, returned there for the next two nights as well. While the hamburgers were good, what was outstanding for us were the Cheesy Fries and the Pulled Pork pizza. Delicious all around!

By far our favorite pub in Longyeabyen. The fish & chips and pizza are great, nice selection l section of drafts, and the staff couldn't be nicer.

Unfortunately, we ended up here because all the other restaurants were booked. The atmosphere is unwelcoming, typical of a fast food restaurant, and the wine service even less so. The orders were half-filled, with one dish arriving first, then the other. The food was terribly fried, tasting like it was just oil that had been used for a lot of fried food. We left hungry. Avoid eating here when you're in Longyearbyen.

Had a really nice dinner here, recommend the reindeer with a beer. And after all, it's the northernmost pub in the world ;)

It's been a feed years since I stayed here. This hotel was on edge of the city. Rooms OK, but everything I went to the restaurant for dinner. I couldn't go because they were booked solid. I think that's bad when you are a guest and the suggest you try another restaurant.

Funktonærmessen is a very good restaurant with good menu and a large wine cellar. Reserve table in advance to get a table by the windows. Great view.

Our guide Anders was amazing. He was funny and very knowledgable. The whole experiance was great, he talked about the history, showed us a movie and then we went into the mine. Its cold and very beautiful, but you smell like a miner when you come out ;)

Best way to get a full Longyearbyen history lesson!! After 5 days in Longyearbyen, I can say this is one of the most informative and interesting activities I did. It was the first thing I did when I got off the plane, and every boat ride, hike and tour I did after said a lot of the same information I already learned in the mine! Camila was a very knowledgeable guide and explains things super well. We got a rundown not only of mining history but also the history of Longyearbyen and the seed vault and geopolitics and more, plus contemporary information about modern day Svalbard living. Then it was time to go into the mine, and it’s like going back in time! Everything is preserved just as it used to be. We even get to put on suits and go crawling where the coal miners used to. I’ve visited coal mines in other countries and this was by far the most interactive and involved that I’ve seen. Overall I think it’s a really great activity and I’m glad I started with it because everything else I did in Svalbard had great context from Camila.

We took the trip with quite modest expectations, but in the end, it proved much more than a simple visit to a museum. It is a real mine and, more importantly, a place where you discover the real life of the miners. Like our very knowledgeable guide, Camila best put it: without them, we would not be here. It is a must-see for anyone who wants to understand the amazing Svalbard. Thank you!

Gruve 3. Mine 3 is a long wall manually mined coking quality coal seam. At -4 degrees permafrost. Working height is 50cm. It would be good to be able to go deeper into the 6km mine than just 800m. Now it contains the prototype Norsk Seed Vault, and the Arctic World Archive used by GitHub among other users.

Absolutely amazing tour with great tour guides. There is no better way to dive deep in to the history of mining in Svalbard. The price of roughly 90€ is absolutely fair for what you get!

Amazing to see exactly how these mines used to work. The guide was experienced, confident, and funny. I definitely recommend crawling in, they make it sound much scarier than it is. Would be cool if we could walk further into the mine in the future.

Fish is good quality, but few choices (tuna, salmon, hamachi and shrimp). That said it is a remote place and it’s all imported here. Price is reasonable. Two of us had dinner with sake, about $US 100 with a 15% tip. We started with edamame, then shared 2 pcs each of hamachi and tuna nigiri, 2 tuna and avocado maki/rolls (ask, as this was not on the menu but they didn’t hesitate to make it for us). We also had tasty vegetable tempura. All good quality and prepared in reasonable time. We sat down at 7pm and a group of 24 came in at 7:30 and filled the place. Make reservations if you want to eat here. Many take away orders happening as well. Oh yea, it’s inside the Vault Hotel.

A really cool and tiny Japanese restaurant hidden in the back of a hotel. On entrance you take of your shoes and leave them at the door and you walk past the hotel rooms to the restaurant. The restaurant seats about 20+ people. You get a menu you can scan and then call over the hostes for your order. We got the Chicken and Pork Ramen, some Takoyaki and a couple sushi rolls. The broth in the ramens were good and the takoyaki tasted like the real deal, the sushi itself was very good as well, i recommend the Nuga Futomaki.

Really lovely! I eat vegan/plant-based so enjoyed the tempura vegetable poke bowl and mushroom gyoza. The house tea was rich with flavor. Comfortable space with a delicious meal! Service was kind and food was served quickly with an almost full restaurant. Lovely!

Seriously this is the best sushi I have had in my entire life. I’m sad because it literally spoils the sushi for me forever. There’s no other sushi I have ever tasted that was as good as this one. Not only was this an incredible experience to eat sushi at the most northern place on earth in the North Pole, but the food is amazing. There was no dish I wouldn’t have ordered. We had 5 or 6 rolls and two noodle bowls and everything was devoured within 25 minutes. Even desert was amazing (we had mochi- highly recommend)

The restaurant is found on the ground floor, inside of Svalbard Hotell The Vault. No outdoor shoes are allowed to be worn here, but there is an area to leave your shoes next to the entrance. The restaurant itself is quite cosy, but hosts a really comfortable dining experience. The prices are quite expensive, but you certainly get some quality food for it. Every dish was fantastic. We definitely over ordered, as portion sizes were quite large. The presentation was wonderful. Service was great, though a little slow (expectedly) at peak time. We also enjoyed a game of jenga, whilst waiting for our food to be prepared. Really suited us for the first night in Svalbard (we were guests at the hotel).

Staff is helpful and welcoming. The ramen is good at all. It’s a really comfortable place to chill out and eat.

We visited here twice in 5 days. Their sushi is delicious, simple with limited option but still good enough given where we were.

Visited September 2025. A large and fully stocked supermarket in the centre of Longyearbyen. Not many supermarkets can boast an airport check-in where you can buy your groceries, print your boarding pass and luggage labels all at the same time.

This is the main indoor shopping centre. On the ground floor is a large restaurant, another bar, and a cafe, plus various shops including outdoor wear and souvenirs. Upstairs toilets are available. This is the best indoor place to shop, relax and eat.

Did not expect there to be a small shopping center up here. They got a bunch of clothing, souvenir shops inside and a very good Thai place.

and king grab for 2. There was a lot of food! The only negative was the king grab meat was completely attached to the bone inside and it was not possible to separate it even with a special knife they provided. I eat crab all the time (king or snow) and had it in different locations and it was the first time I was having this issue. Usually, it’s easy to extract meat. Instead, meat was still attached to the bone but separated into many fibers and it was just impossible to get it out. It took a lot of effort, but presentation and taste was superb. Service and atmosphere was great as well. Definitely recommend.

Beautiful view overseeing the mountains and the town. The ambience felt warm and welcoming. Staff were knowledgeable and gave bread at the start of the meal. The king crab was seasoned marvelously, the additional sauces provided went well with the dish. The scallops starter was extremely well executed. The cod was satisfactory. However, I particularly didn't like the beetroot tartar's basil and lemon sorbet topping. It was overpowering to the rest of the dish, there was just too much of it making the dish too sweet. And the lamb terrine was disappointing, the sauces and limited sides on the plate would have been okay if it were an unprocessed lamb with naturally rich flavours and textures, but when dealing with cold, pressed, processed meat like terrine, if not properly prepared, can fall short of expectation. Overall it was a bit of a roller coaster experience with this restaurant. Some great dishes, some not so great.

We tried the Full Experience menu. It was well composed with beautifully prepared produce and every dish was like pieces of art. We really enjoyed the different textures and flavours. Everything was delicious and married really well. The restaurant was tastefully decorated with elegance, classy and a hint of industrial design. We really like the atmosphere. The service was excellent! We could not be happier!

We dined in for dinner and opted for the al la carte menu instead of the tasting menu. I had the duck and my partner had the vegan ravioli from the vegan menu. Both dishes were very tasty and tasted extremely fresh despite being so far from the mainland. We also ordered a few desserts that were both fantastic. The ambiance and vibe of the place were great, especially after a day of being outside in the cold. My reason for a 4/5 on service is due to the service being extremely slow despite us being one of three tables in the restaurant. We did visit during offseason, so perhaps they were understaffed. I’d absolutely recommend a visit if you’re in town and looking for some truly upscale food in Svalbard.

Amazing 7 course (actually 9 courses incl. bread and palate cleanser) menu for a very reasonable price. We didn't go for wine pairing but I'm sure it would have been great. Service was absolutely incredible and the view was amazing.

We did the champange tasting in the wine cellar. It was an incredible experience. The champagne was beautiful and a few bites of food pairings. I was so excited for dinner. It was explained the chefs came from Micheline star restaurants. I orderd the famous crab legs prepared 3 ways. The crab was horrendous. It was half cold and stuck to the shell so bad no amount of scraping with the fork would get it out. My husband got the cod. It was good the first 2 bites but then went cold. I think the plates must have been cold 🥶 or something? I'm so disappointed. We were really looking forward to an upscale meal. Our server was just wonderful and we tipped her very well. There are so many great restaurants in Longyearbyen. I would not recommend here.

Had a wonderful meal here, consisting of the Reindeer. It was an amazing experience and I got to try reindeer for the first time - definitely worth it! It was very tasty and I highly recommend it. The atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly. The view was also incredible, a great view over Longyearbyen! I would go back!
