Villa Lucía Espacio Gastronómico is a cultural space located in Laguardia, offering a unique experience to promote enogastronomic culture. The estate spans 10,000 m2 and provides facilities for hosting special events like weddings and communions. It also features a museum tour that offers informative insights into the local wine culture. Visitors can enjoy delicious food at the spacious establishment, which is known for its generous portions and high-quality dishes.
We took a day trip around La Rioja! We decided to jump off the bus in Laguardia but our feet were tired from walking so we want to find somewhere to relax. We happened upon Villa Lucia where we tried wines, enjoyed the beautiful patio, and decided to have a guided tour of the museum. The staff at the wine bar and the museum were so kind and informative! The guided museum tour was incredible! And the 4D movie experience at the end was our favorite. Then we enjoyed some croquettas and more wine and bought a few bottles to take home! Loved this place!

Lovely atmosphere, very child friendly We found the staff here so friendly and welcoming. The set menu of €31 was for 3 courses including a wide range of starters, main courses and desserts. Recommend the chorizo and bean stew starter and the chuleta (beef steak) main (supplement €8.25) which you cook yourself on a grill at your table. Kids options could have been wider as it was basically either burger or chicken breast, croqueta and potatoes. The restaurant had a lovely ambience and a pretty little garden out the back. They also sell wines and have info on wines of the area. Recommend as a welcome stop on a driving tour of the Rioja area.

We didn’t just come here for a meal—although the food was absolutely fantastic from start to finish—but I also happened to forget or lose my ring there. The staff took care of everything, contacted us afterward, and made sure I got my ring back. I’m truly happy and grateful for that. I think this place isn’t just outstanding, it’s also incredibly trustworthy and absolutely a spot I can wholeheartedly recommend.

We had lunch here on a Tuesday at about 1pm it was fairly quiet until about 2 and then the restaurant was busier. There are 2 options on the menu which are cost per head 36 euro or 41 euro. We had bread with pâté and tomato gazpacho this was so nice with 3 types of bread, beef croquettes as well as beef carpaccio with olive oil ice cream for starters, t bone steak which came with a coal cooker and beef cheeks for main, for dessert we were recommended what was like a bread pudding all of the food was delicious the beef carpaccio with olive oil ice-cream was out of this world delicious. The servings are large and could be shared if you are not that hungry. We just had one desert to share as well were so full. The staff were so welcoming and helpful did not speak much English but tried to help as much as they could, beautiful dining room looking out to the garden. Would recommend.

Nice place, nice first courses, but too much salt. Meat was the biggest disappointment, just impossible to eat.
Olga L — Google review
We had the three course lunch. Food is just not very good flavours even though the produce is of good quality. Most things were just fatty and underflavoured. Service was friendly. Interior is old, cluttered and messy.

Bodega El Fabulista is a historic winery located in Laguardia, within the walls of one of the largest caves in the area. The winery offers guided tours and wine tastings, providing visitors with an immersive experience into the winemaking process. Visitors can explore the caves and tunnels, learn about different types of wood barrels, bottling processes, and quality testing.
The 13th century Bodega and the scenic country we travelled thru to get to it was beautiful. The wine making tour thru the tunnels was interesting and fascinating. The tour guide from the Bodega provided detailed insights to the making of wine and its history and was very entertaining. Having a tasting and lunch in the tunnels was very unique. We would recommend Bodega El Fabulista to anybody considering visiting this historic wine making area. Tony and Alison Tyler

We did a tour here as part of a larger tour throughout La Rioja and had a wonderful time! In particular, I want to shout out our fantastic guide, Miguel, as well as Jordan, who helped us with additional wine tastings after the tour. Both were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and interacting with them made our day!

Lucy was extremely helpful and informative. An incredible experience!! A definite "Must do"!! Fannie gives it her 5 ROARS!!

If you like wine this place is a must to visit. Excellent atmosphere and proffessional workers who gave an interesting history lesson about this place, the town and ofcourse about wine. As I dont like wine normally I was very sceptical at first but I now understand that there is a big difference between different wine. The tunnels were amazing aswell!
Gandalf — Google review
We did the winery tour in English and the guide was great, very informative and kind. The facility itself is small but packed full of interesting history! As with most of Laguardia, there are tunnels below the building where they age the wine. We did our tasting in the tunnels, which was really fun. We had a 10 year old with us and she enjoyed the tour too!

We did a guided tour and wine tasting of the El Fabulista winery in Laguardia. Our guide was Antonio. He took us through the whole process of how the wines are made in this historic winery in the old town. He showed us all the caves and tunnels, explained the different types of wood barrels and what they are for, how the wines are bottled and tested for quality, and so much more. In the end we got to taste 4 wines in the beautiful cellar and had some Spanish cheese and chorizo to accompany the experience. We would highly recommend this tour with Antonio. Good value for money and a wonderful place to visit. We treated ourselves to 2 bottles from their shop in the end.

My husband and I absolutely loved this tour! We did about 3 wine tours around La Rioja and I think this one was my favorite one. Francesca the tour guide was just fabulous! Her vibrant energy just made the tour so enjoyable. This tour seemed more personal and I felt comfortable asking her all of my questions. I also enjoyed the wine and the tapas that came with the tasting. I loved that we were able to taste the wine underground in the caves. Book this tour you won’t regret it!

Excursión is interesting! But wine is very mediocre((( for Degustation young wine (4€ bottle). Crianza ok 👌 . Visit is 15€ per person. Don’t forget to take jacket 🧥 for wine cellar, very cold

Churches & Cathedrals
The Church of Santa María de los Reyes is a captivating blend of architectural styles, with its construction spanning several centuries. The Romanesque facade and striking bell tower, believed to have been part of a Templar monastery, add to its allure. However, the church's Gothic door is what truly sets it apart as a masterpiece of Spanish medieval art.
What an amazing experience we had in this unique cathedral! We were in the tourist office of Laguardia and they told us that there will be a tour which can be booked in advance (only for 4 euros pro person). We attended this tour and there was no one else as it was February and therefore off-season. So this became in fact a private tour :) After the lady opened the church for us and explained some details, we listened to this amazing show where the story of the first altar door is explained with lightings. This was absolutely great. Following that, we could also enter the church and ask questions we wanted to ask. Overall, it was an amazing experience!
Denizhan Ö — Google review
Impressive 12th century Romanesque and later added Renaissance architecture. Beautifully preserved portico sculpture work telling the biblical story of Santa Maria's life. The lack of English language tour availability was a drawback, but they do have written English interpretive sheets. But the introductory light show & narration loses a lot when you can't understand the language. Ensure you inquire at the tourism office about times for the tour in your preferred language.
Jan D — Google review
One of the best €5 ever spent for a church. The visual audio presentation of the portico is really really really good. Although it's only in Spanish but no need to worry, the lady could explain a bit after the session. No photos put here cuz must go and enjoy it personally. The ticket can be purchased at the Tourist office.

A very beautiful church. I think all churches should charge more for admission to better maintain them.
Ulises P — Google review
The construction of the church of Santa María de los Reyes, located in the North of Laguardia, began at the end of the 12th century in Romanesque style. However, the sanctuary was finished in the 15th century, which due to the restorations made from then on, explains its Gothic, Renaissance and even Baroque features. The polychrome portico is the sanctuary's most outstanding characteristic. Its construction, in carved stone, dates back to the 14th century but it was polychromed in the 17th century with details showing human forms mingled with vegetal motifs. The main altarpiece was made by Juan de Bascardó in the 17th century, in Renaissance style, but tending towards the Baroque.

Need to buy ticket for guided tour to be able to see it. They have no English language tour but they provided us with a printed copy of the explanation. Guide was very helpful. It takes your breathe away when the doors open

Specialty Museums
There is a wealth of prehistoric locations to discover in Laguardia, such as the Buradon hill-forts and La Hoya settlement. The town offers a variety of activities for tourists to enjoy. One notable attraction is the archaeological museum Poblado de la Hoya, which showcases well-preserved artifacts and ruins from ancient times. The museum exhibits are meticulously cared for, reflecting the pride taken in preserving this historical site.
We were the only visitors there on a Wednesday morning. Entry to the museum and grounds as well as an audio guide in English were all free. There are some interesting artifacts inside the museum as well as a recreated home and an aerial view. Walking around the actual city was interesting but it is overgrown with wildflowers and our shoes got wet and muddy. You can’t enter the actual streets of the ancient city but that’s understandable. It was pretty interesting to see the ancient city with its medieval successor on the hill in the distance and the modern architecture of the vineyard on the other side.

I'm sure it's great but on arrival they've moved to off season opening times which is difficult to Google maps. Looked interesting but won't have time to return on this trip.

It's a great place if you love history, you can watch a video that explains the site & history, it's free to enter.

The ruins are not amazing, but the small museum is extremely well presented and modern, easy to understand and interesting boards. Do not miss the two videos on the settlement, high quality animation and surprisingly violent with beheadings and kids getting killed! Not gratuitous violence, history is history.

Winery
Bodegas Javier San Pedro Ortega is a beautiful winery with a modern chic tasting room and stunning views of the mountains and neighboring vineyards. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their wines, offering guided tastings with tapas in a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy a diverse range of wines, from aromatic whites to single-vineyard reds crafted by fifth-generation grower Javier.
If you are anywhere close by you just have to book a tour here. I’m not going to tell you much about it because it will spoil the surprise of how it evolves. It’s tremendous entertainment accompanied by fascinating facts, great wine and delicious food. It’s not often I say I’d repeat a winery tour but this one I definitely would. Our guide Joel was fabulous. We booked on a whim because it was one of the few bodegas open on a Sunday close to Laguardia. We will never forget - thank you Joel XX

Lovely small bodega by the Ysios bodega parking. Ideal if you didn’t book to go in Ysios Very friendly and welcoming women at the bar. Happy to sell wines by the glass and as we just wanted to taste due to driving we were able to buy half glasses to taste. Thank you.

Beautiful winery with awesome views and excellent service staff. The interior of the tasting room is modern chic. Very cool! The staff are top notch. Super friendly and very patient and passionate with explaining the wines and recommendations. This winery is in a very strategic location that has amazing views of the mountains and the neighboring winery with a breathtaking architecture that is best admired from a distance. The wines, however, are good, but nothing to be wowed about. There are much better tasting wines in Rioja, so don't go crazy buying up a storm at this one. Definitely worth a visit for the experience.

One of the few bodegas in the area that were open on Sunday. Beautiful space with a great selection of wines as well as a nice Spanish vermouth and house made gin. Excellent service.
Jennifer S — Google review
We walked into this small winery as the one next door was closed unexpectedly early. What a pleasant surprise! We had no reservation but Jorge was our server for the day and he was so kind and allowed us to try wine by the glass and even explained every bottle in detail. His English is great and was so welcoming to us and even other guests who visits. This was truly a great experience and I would definitely recommend for others to visit!
Charmaine A — Google review
The best wine tasting tour we ever had up to now. The "bodega" is a mix of modernity and tradition, with some interesting art installation. Each wine is served in a specific room with its own theme. Great and entertaining explanations from our guide (he made the tour in English only for us). Finally, wines are very particular, as are the pintxos served together, very different from classical mix of ham and cheese.
Alessandro B — Google review
Great location, selection and service. The atmosphere is great with a lovely outdoor area, the view is amazing and the friendly personal style to every client makes it so much more worth visiting than some of the pretentious tourist traps in the area.

The restaurant/bar & hostel Restaurante Biazteri 1974 is a great option for budget-minded travellers looking for reliable accommodation in the heart of Laguardia. The simple but practical rooms are perfect for those on a tight schedule, and the restaurant offers delicious Spanish food and delicious Pinxtos (traditional Spanish tapas). I would highly recommend this spot to anyone travelling to Laguardia!
This restaurant is the complete opposite of the lovely local wine that we sampled from Bodegas Javier San Pedro Ortega; translated “Never Again”! but as for Biazteri what a lovely restaurant with options for casual dining, pinchos y tapas or the beautifully furnished “sala restaurante” for more a la carte dining. Many thanks to Monique and all the staff for the hospitality and multilingual tongues, the “Bacalao a La Riojana” is such a typical plate from this area and it didn’t disappoint “Eskerrik Asko”! I would highly recommend to any guiri visiting LaGuardia.

Fabulous Sunday lunch! on the lovely outdoor terrace. We ordered the set Menu, all dishes were really good. Very friendly and attentive staff
Alexa — Google review
We absolutely loved the food at Biazteri. In our opinion, it was the most authentic restaurant we visited during our stay. The staff was amazing, we got excellent wine recommendations and the food was very good. We cancelled a reservation at a higher rated restaurant outside Laguardia to come back. Loved the beans with chorizo and the prawns but there was so much more to enjoy.
Christin O — Google review
We ate here a number of times on previous visits to Laguardia (2016 and 2017!) - compared to then, the Menú seemed, at first, a little more expensive. If that was the case, the extra proved well worth it; for our €25 each we enjoyed a wonderful meal, with generous portions, making it a struggle to finish everything. It might be unfair to single out a single course - since every course was lovely - but it was the deserts that seemed to offer the marked improvement. The Lemon Sorbet (which, in this area, seems to be a “slushy” consistency, consumed through a straw) was wonderful, and a perfect way to round off a rich meal. Of course, the Menú price includes a nice wine (from the town, of course!), water and bread. Service was faultless, and for the first time we ate in the indoor restaurant room, which is a very attractive space.
George H — Google review
Food 5/5 First glass of wine was reasonable However, considering this place is in the heart of the Rioja wine region, the 2nd red they served us tasted literally like vinegar. The owner / waiter seemed to have stuck a sticker on the bottle to make it look like it was a decent quality but it was aweful. We did not appreciate trying to be tricked with this aweful drink The owner seems to stand outside hawking for business which was mildly irritating.
Noel V — Google review
The Pork Feather (Pluma Ibérica) was the best, most tender pork meat i have eaten in my life!
Simon B — Google review
Excellent dinner at Biazteri in a beautiful setting, we sat on the terrace under the trees next to the church. Every dishes were good, from the beans & chorizo, the asparagus, and of course the meat, pluma & filet mignon we perfectly cooked. But we should not forget the wine, Laurent the owner is a wine aficionado and this is definitely one of the best place to experience local wines but not only. On top of that the prices are very fair. To sum up, don’t miss Biazteri while being in the Rioja region!

Disappointment. High quality chuletón that wasn’t cooked properly. Felt a bit overpriced and seemed like our waiter was used to trying to upsell tourists.

Gorgeously, unique hotel. Privately owned by a family with the wonderfully friendly and welcoming Xavier as our host. Stunning, historic home on the edge of LaGuardia town, with beautifully decorated bedroom and bathroom. All this was completed with a fantastic range of breakfast goodies, something to suit everyone. Xavier also recommended the restaurant underneath the hotel which was fantastic. Varied menu, delicious food options and very well priced - went there two nights running.

We booked this hotel ( mid August) based on the glowing reviews about the place, host, Xavier, and were really looking forward to the warm hospitality everyone raved about. Unfortunately, when we arrived, there was no Xavier to be found. Instead, we were greeted by a woman who felt more like a reluctant gatekeeper than a welcoming host. We rang the bell per the note on the desk, she came out to check us in but with no friendliness or warmth — no smile, no “welcome,” just a flat demeanor. I even tried making small talk about the weather (which was brutally hot at 95°F) to lighten the mood, but it went nowhere. It was a disappointing first impression, especially after a long journey in the heat. Everyone’s dealing with the weather, but a smile, a few kind words, or a bit of helpful guidance would have gone a long way. When I asked for restaurant recommendations, her first response was “We’re closed.” I clarified I was asking for recommendations, not a meal at the hotel, and she eventually said something like it is hard to give recommendation because it depends what people want. I think that was a weird response. I got the message that she didn't want to talk to us. When we checked out, she didn't even say goodbye not a word. Just grabbed a key that we put on a table and walk right back into the back of the building. She didn't even glance at me when I came up from downstairs. We like the location very much. The room was basic with old charm. The AC in our room was not working well. We just slept with no blanket because just the thought of trying to talk to her is daunting. The view is beautiful from the roof top. We just had to navigate the building, finding way up to the roof top on our own because no information or suggestion were given. I feel like we were there just to sleep. Unfortunately, she put us in the very lowest floor, I asked about other room. She said it's fully booked, but I barely see anyone there. The restaurant was closed. Oh well I'm glad we were there only one night, and will never go back there.

Our stay was incredibly lovely. It was an amazing experience to stay in the castle. Mr. Javier was very welcoming, generous and attentive. The rooms were beautiful, spacious and had very comfortable beds. Breakfast was delicious, as was the dinner we had in the restaurant downstairs. Mr. Javier took time to show us to the castle tower where there was an unbelievable overlook of LaGuardia and vineyards below. A true gentleman and host, he was also very patient and encouraging with me while I am practicing Spanish as a non-native speaker. Thank you for everything and an unforgettable stay! Highly recommend adding this stop to your itinerary!

Hotel is a historic castle with unbeatable view of the Rioja region. What made the real impression on the stay is the owner/ host and royalty himself Senior Javier. Not only were the room and bathroom amazing but the hospitality and attention to detail was impeccable by Javier. Starting from greeting at the door to help with the luggage, to breakfast fixed in the mornings and making sure we got taxis to wineries we wanted to visit. He is present every step of the way. Thank you Javier, you made our stay most memorable. Sincerely, Christina

This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. A very atmospheric old castle, every corner of which is made with attention and love. The owner is a very sensitive and kind person. The attention he gave us was extraordinary. I definitely want to return here for a longer stay. The very place where the hotel is located is also worth noting, especially for wine connoisseurs.

We absolutely loved our stay at the hotel and we were instantly met with Javier's kindness and eagerness to help us in any way he could, from carrying bags to preparing breakfast, he made us feel special every step of the way. He directed us to take our time and enjoy coffee at the top of the tower, where you can see the beauty of the town. It was such a special place to experience, and Javier's genuine kindness is worth the stay!

Nestled along the roadside, Restaurante Las Postas is a charming spot that caters to both couples seeking a cozy meal and groups of friends unwinding after a day outdoors. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it an ideal place for anyone looking to enjoy hearty homemade dishes. With an impressive set menu offering great value—complete with wine included—guests can indulge in generous portions of delicious food without breaking the bank.
Fast service and delicious food, local homemade meals, large food portions. Very good price

I went for a quick breakfast. Lots of local drivers were in the cafeteria/bar. I had a solid egg sandwich with chorizo and a coffee for 3 euros. Fast service. Cash only. There is a larger, nicer restaurant attached, but I did not go there.

A very good price for the set meal with a variety of choice of starter & main courses. The set also includes one set of a bottle of wine, water & bread for each 3 persons or less (even 1 person). Starters or main courses are in great disc and must get full. Only the entrance door is not significant with Spanish sign and may wrong direction to the bar at the right-side.

Excellent except for the coffee! Coffee is from the machine and it does not have a good taste. I don't like it! The rest of the meals and buffet is excellent

Set menu price. Delicious and stuffed. Comes with a bottle of wine from the region. Great service and a beautiful setting in LaGuardia ESP.

We stopped by for lunch before visiting LaGuardia old town. Set course with 1 starter, 1 main and 1 dessert was tasty with pretty large portions. A very relaxing and enjoyable lunch experience.

We are in Rioja for the weekend and my wife booked a table at this restaurant to try the tasting menu for lunch. We recognised it was good value for money and our expectations weren’t high. It was just convenient for us. I think it’s fair to say that the staff are great, and that the chief obviously tried hard with the food, couldn’t fault the presentation. However the fish wasn’t cooked well at all. My wife was having the pescatarian menu and was served cod twice (which we thought was a bit boring - but we didn’t complain). Once she enjoyed it but another time it was very dry and she didn’t eat it. The one time I was served cod it was still raw in the middle. Needless to say I left it. The octopus also needed further cooking as it was tough - not tender in the slightest. The starter and the chocolate desert were the highlights for sure. Just a shame about the main courses. I would say come here if you are on a budget and go for a la carte. I unfortunately can not recommend the tasting menu.

This restaurant is set in a beautiful location surrounded by mountains and vineyards. We stopped in for Monday lunch and enjoyed the set menu consisting of appetizer, main course and dessert with wine included for €11 per person. The appetizer of artichokes with ham was full of flavor, as was the paella. Please take note the servings are enormous. Grilled steak was perfectly cooked medium and the french fries were tasty. Hamburger, Milanese, and ham steak all uniformly delicious. The service was pleasant and prompt. Wait staff were very understanding with regard to our broken Spanish. The restrooms are also clean and well outfitted with plenty of toilet paper. Nothing at all wrong with this place; you will surely enjoy.

Very nice place especially after visiting many "bodegas". The quality and service is excellent! The staff is very professional and make you feel cosy and comfortable in restaurant while ordering and eating the meals! The price of menu del dia is 15eur which is great! Quality of food excellent!

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Eguren Ugarte, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Bodegas Baigorri. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Eguren Ugarte is a working winery in Alaves, La Rioja. The hotel offers streamlined quarters with free Wi-Fi and private parking, as well as two restaurants and a bar. The bodega offers traditional riojan pre-fixed menu on a terrace overlooking vineyards and mountains.
My friend and I spent a night here in November, and we were truly impressed. The hotel has beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards, and guests are free to walk the grounds. Although our room was dated and on the smaller side, the views made up for it. We caught the sunset from our window. The best part of our stay was undoubtedly the 5-course dinner, which featured a set menu. Major kudos to the chef, who I think was working alone!!! The dinner was absolutely divine, and there was so much food that I had to force myself to finish everything. As a pescatarian, I appreciated that they substituted one of the meat dishes with a seafood option for me. I also have to commend the sole server who was managing all the tables. My only critique would be that there were long waits between courses; they seem understaffed with just two people on duty, so I can’t fault them. We also booked the wine tasting and cave tour for the next day. The tour was good, but I didn't care much for the wine included in the tour. Overall, we had wonderful time in the hotel and on the tour. Thank you very much!

We had a lovely stay here while attending a wedding on site. Not sure why Google has it as a one-star hotel... The hotel is well appointed. Rooms are a bit dated as previous reviewers have said, but the views are sensational, the bathroom is spacious and the cleaning is done thoroughly every day. Breakfast is pretty substantial for Europe and I especially enjoyed the scrambled eggs. The coffee is good too. The staff is helpful. Such a stunning part of the world. Would definitely stay here again if in the area. Loved proximity to cute Laguardia too!

We did the family harvest, picked the grapes, crushed them and then tasted 3 wines. The tour was in Spanish but we only spoke English. The tour guide was very accommodating and did her best to tell us as much as she could in English. We were grateful and would have still liked the tour even if there wasn’t any English translation. I would recommend even if you only spoke English

Disgusting restaurant. Egregious wine. Atrocious and contemptuous service at the reception. Weird and amateurish service at the disgusting restaurant. Do not go to this hotel and its terrible (alleged) winery. Appalling experience.

I booked Hotel Eguren Ugarte expecting a relaxing experience, but it turned into a stressful stay. I was given a smoking room, despite having asthma and clearly explaining my condition to the staff. They did not offer any resolution. Only when my husband noticed other available rooms did they say we could switch—but only if we paid extra. In the end, we had no choice but to pay for an upgrade just so I could stay without risking an emergency room visit. The front desk personnel were unhelpful and dismissive, and the manager was unavailable to speak with us for the entire 24 hours of our stay. For a property of this level, this level of customer service is beyond unacceptable. The vineyard and the property itself are beautiful, and their Grande Reserve wine (not the regular Reserve) is nice. But customer service is beyond bad. I would not recommend staying here.
YC C — Google review
Very pretty hotel with wonderful views and grounds. I highly recommend the tour of the caves, that came as a real surprise to us. All the wines at the hotel are very affordable and very tasty. The rooms are ok, we found them to be a bit noisy, but all have great views. There are many grounds to explore and you are free to wander the vineyards; Laguardia and other vineyards are within an enjoyable walking distance. It would have been good if we could have hired bikes to explore more. The evening food is okay, which is from a changing set menu; we had spent the week in San Sebastian before visiting here and were used to very high standards. The hotel doesn't necessarily have its own bar (there is one at the main restaurant/ tour area) but if you ask at the hotel reception for a drink they will let you sit in the lounge area and enjoy the views.

Beautiful hotel set in a vineyard. The location is remote, however situated not far from the beautiful town of laguardia. The hotel is stylish, with rooms with a view over the beautiful vineyard. The tours of the winery are brilliant and it's wonderful to learn about how the wine is made and how the family have built the brand. Dinner in the restaurant was very nice, with the menu changing daily and wines to compliment. The wine it's self is the star of the show, which you can really feel throughout the hotel and grounds. A couple of small things to make this pure perfection, the rooms are starting to look a little tired, pillows really need replacing, staffing for breakfast and dinner could do with maybe an extra person. They clearly worked hard but you could see it was a strain on their own and lastly no bar in the hotel to take in the view. Which is a real shame as clearly you have the most amazing wine 🍷 Otherwise it is amazing and we would love to return.
G B — Google review
I don't know how this is classified as a 1 star hotel - it is 10 stars in my book. The views are stunning, you won't want to leave. Food was as good as the views, surpassed only by the wine (every single one from their label, as was the olive oil). Tour was lots of fun - more about the family than about the process. Great choice of wines for the tasting

Little to say about harvests, destemmers or fermentations, that's what others are already talking about. Here they talk to us about wine as a crucial element in culture and society. We tried some more wines, good ones by the way, and that was the experience. Our cicerone, Marta, knowledgeable, fresh and very pleasant. (Original) Visita curiosa. I used to go every year on a multi-day tour and take advantage of the opportunity to visit the winery with Marta, a great professional, and then stay for dinner. The cook they've had for many years, a great person and no less professional, no longer works for them, according to what I've been told. I have no proof, but I also have no doubts as to why he no longer works for them. This past summer, I haven't been back. It was the summer before when, after the wonderful visit with Marta as always, upon entering the dining room, we noticed the usual cook was gone, and in his place was a team made up of several young people who were willing, but inexperienced and unable to properly serve the entire dining room. The lamb ribs they serve every year, which I must say are of quality, were ruined by cooking them raw on one side and charcoal on the other. He who wants everything loses everything. A big hug, Marta, from Montse and me, and also for the chef if you have the pleasure of continuing to work with him.

Sandra was my guide for the English tour. I was the only person during the tour but Sandra was still very welcoming. The tour was very interesting and lasted around 1.5h. All my questions were welcomed. Among the wines I tasted, one was the Gran Reserva 1994, which perfectly paired with the dark chocolate she gave me. I could stay for the tasting as long as I wanted. I would definitely recommend this visit, since the building is beautiful, underground rooms are amazing, information is clear and interesting and Sandra was a really nice guide.

My parents and I came here for massages this past weekend. The spa is beautiful and the workers are friendly enough. We were a little disappointed because we had to wait in the front room where people walk in and out often. We expected to be able to wait in a peaceful lounge like the ones where we’re from. Also, they don’t provide robes or show you around (to the locker room, bathroom, the facilities, etc.). So, you change in the room you have the massage in. Each of us enjoyed our massages and were very relaxed afterward. However, during mine my masseuse kept using just one had or stopping all together because she was distracted. I’m assuming she was looking at her phone because she would pause to look at something and then resume again. This happened quite often. At first I thought she was maybe getting more oil, but this was not the case. My dad also said his masseuse was distracted during his session as well. Overall, it was a pretty good experience. But, not as relaxing as we’d hoped.

(Translated by Google) Everything was pretty dirty; the glass had mold growing on it since the spa was opened. I even saw a stuffed animal on the edge of the pool, which had been there for a few days. The sauna entrance doors were blackened on the bottom... and I could go on and on listing places where I saw filth. The spa was quite simple: a pool with four jets and bubbles. The best thing was the service from the receptionist, very nice and attentive. They gave us bathrobes. The locker room is also tiny, with small lockers. If you want to shower and change, you might have to book a time like at a butcher shop. The showers are also pretty dirty. Pros: There's a gel dispenser in the shower and a hairdryer in the locker room. I think there are things that could be improved; it's a place that has potential if it's taken care of and a little investment is made to make it more complete.

(Translated by Google) What can I say about this spa? Thank goodness it was a gift voucher and I didn't pay anything, because I would have felt seriously ripped off. Being located within a 4-star hotel, I expected much higher quality, but nothing was far from the truth. It does the hotel a disservice. What disgusted us most was the sheer filth of the facilities. You could clearly see the line of brown grime accumulated at the edge of the water. Very unpleasant. I remember a trash can that was filthy and full of mold. Is it so hard to buy one and not give such a bad image? The only glass door they had was filthy, with mold in many corners and the odd spider. And to top it all off, the water wasn't the right temperature. Honestly, I don't think this place passes a health inspection. I didn't go into the sauna out of disgust. The lockers in the changing rooms were tiny, and you couldn't find anything in the showers to hang your towel. At least they had a gel dispenser; although mine was broken. Anyway, we were supposed to be at the spa for 90 minutes, but we only stayed for 20. It was all pretty unpleasant. A shame.

They have jets for practically all the muscles in the lower body and back, a sauna and Turkish bath, a foot bath, a contrast shower, and jacuzzis.

Bodegas Ysios, located at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains near Laguardia, is a winery known for its stunning wave-like design created by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. The building serves as a temple dedicated to wine and perfectly blends into the surrounding landscape. Visitors can enjoy cellar and barrel-room tours, as well as wine sampling while taking in the breathtaking architecture. Reservations are recommended due to limited capacity for small groups.
I love this winery. I don’t really enjoy wine but I loved touring the winery and learning about the whole process. Our tour guide was so friendly and informative. I really appreciate the wine making process after this tour. My friend is a vegan, and they were helpful to provide vegan options (for the options provided with the wine tasting). The winery is so beautiful and I want to visit again.

Such an incredible winery - I assumed because of the breathtaking architecture, it would be a major producer, but that is not that case. It’s very boutique, the staff are so personable and the history and techniques behind their product is unique. A must see if you’re in the region - hopefully you’ll be lucky enough to have Sylvia as your guide, like we were. Thank you Sylvia! Nick and Georgia from Australia.

Honestly… I’d come here in the early morning for some photos (you don’t need a reservation or to pay in order to park and walk up the walkway). It’s truly a beautiful location with the coolest architecture. The staff is super nice, but none of the wines were our favorites in Rioja. Plus after the wines are all poured into your tasting glass setup, you’re shepherded to this enormous concrete room with a bunch of barrels and ambient noise — and it’s the least pleasant location I’ve yet experienced to just sit and drink wine on your own.

We have had many amazing experiences across our 3 weeks in Spain. Visiting Ysios today was one of them. We arrived by chance later in the afternoon. The staff were very welcoming and offered us a tasting flight even though it was close to their closing time. Sampling the Ysios wines inside the vast cellar was an experience not to be missed. Even without a booked tour the staff was offered casual information on the winery building and the wines. The architecture with the vineyards and the mountain backdrop is spectacular. We would like to take the full tour one day. Highly recommend a visit here.

No visit to the region is complete without a visit to this winery. Santiago Calatrava’s breathtaking modernist structure somehow blends in magnificently well with its surroundings of vineyards and mountains. We totally enjoyed the wine tour led by Sylvia who was as passionate as she was knowledgeable about Ysios having worked there since its opening some 25 years ago. Quite aside from the architecture, we learned a lot about the relatively small batch of premium wines they produce. The wines we tasted were delicious and we left with a renewed appreciation of viticulture- along with our purchase of a case of wine to bring a bit of Ysios home with us. Thank you Sylvia!

The tour at Ysios Winery was an outstanding experience. Our guide, Silva, led the visit with great passion, knowledge, and enthusiasm, making it both comprehensive and fascinating. We learned a lot about the winemaking process, the history, and the Rioja region, and enjoyed excellent wine tastings. Highly recommended for any wine lover!

I booked this winery tour mainly because of the architecture, and wow — the views did not disappoint! The winery is absolutely stunning, inside and out. Esther, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and so easy to talk to, making the whole experience fun and memorable. With so many wineries to choose from in Rioja, I’m so glad we ended up picking this one!

Silvia was very informative and kind. What we liked the most about our visit besides all the new information was the passion Silvia transmits to visitors about wine. Her energy is very contagious and made our visit extra special 🤍

Awesome tour, food, and wines. Got the premium wines with tour/meal and 100% recommend. Great quality and experience. Beautiful location and really enjoyed it.

⸻ Expectations were high since my parents visited this place about 15 years ago. Apparently, everything has changed. This was anything but good. We started off in a sauna (the entrance), spending 30 minutes in front of a roll-up banner. The guide knew their stuff, but the heat and the noise from all the other groups in this commercial setting were unbearable. Our group had about 15 people, but others had up to 50. We had booked the premium package, which included a guided tour, wine tasting, and a six-course meal. After about 1 hour and 20 minutes, the tour was over. We were taken to a large, fully packed tiled dining hall with a terrible noise level and crowded with people. Wine was poured without any presentation. Then came the food… This is among the worst meals I’ve ever had. (Some parts were inedible.) Overcooked ravioli with a sweet sauce. Everything leaned towards being sweet—even the seafood salad, which I couldn’t finish. When the tuna arrived, my daughter started crying. It was unbalanced and overcooked. I took one bite and couldn’t eat more. Inedible. The dessert was cold milk with chopped pears poached in wine. I felt almost sick after the meal. This place has become impersonal, commercialized, and extremely overpriced. I cannot recommend it.

Beautiful view of the vineyards. I love the all glass building overlooking the valley. I didn’t do the tour but did some tasting at the bar. Reasonable price for the tasting bar. I tried a glass of Garnacha and bought home a bottle. Friendly staff!

We did the tour of the winery and the lunch tasting menu back in May and I’m still getting goosebumps just thinking about it — everything about this experience was perfect! Our tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable, the winery is absolutely stunning and the food was awesome! I was very impressed how fast they were able to accommodate us for he tour and highly appreciated everything hey did for us. The vineyard and architecture is nothing short of STUNNING! If your an art and wine lover this is a MUST visit for you! I recommend a food pairing as well to enjoy the wines even more! Incredible! 🙌🏼😍

Amazing. I did the visit of the Bodega (winery) plus the lunch tasting menu. The Bodega itself is worth the visit, completely built/hidden/integrated within a hill. The view of the valley and the vineyards is breathtaking (especially with the fall colours!!). The lunch menu, very good, plenty of dishes (even too much food!) coupled with different wines. A must do.

We chose this visit to see an ultra modern wine production. They assume the fact that they are modern and still manage to make very good wines. The architecture is spectacular. After our visit we enjoyed an gastronomical late lunch enjoyed the view.

Entreviñas Y Olivos is a charming spot that truly captures the essence of delightful dining. The service is warm and welcoming, making it an ideal place to enjoy a meal with friends or even your furry companion, as they are pet-friendly.
Nice place to have a tostada (their specialty). The sardina is of good quality, surprisingly not very salty. The hand washing basin is quite interesting.

Our hotel host recommended us this place and we were quite excited about the beautiful interior. The vibe is okay- I guess our host has recommended this place to others as well as it was full of tourists but no locals. However, as a vegetarian it's a bit tricky to find good options. I had a quattro formaggi pizza, which I absolutely don't recommend since it is way too loaded with cheese. It was unfortunately the worst food I had so far in basque land. Just go for another option!
Isa — Google review
What a lovely place!! The food was simple and delicious! Executed perfectly. I enjoyed every bite. The service was lovely and the vibe of the place is very chill and cool. In addition we came with our dog and were able to sit inside with him. Definitely recommend!
Dana L — Google review
The bar/restaurant has entrances from two different streets, which makes it easy to find and adds to its charm. We chose to sit on the quieter back street, and it was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a glass of wine with some delicious appetizers. What really stood out was seeing how smoothly everything was run with just one person in the kitchen and another handling both the wines and the appetizers, working incredibly hard to make sure guests were well taken care of. A cozy atmosphere, great wine, tasty bites, and impressive dedication from the staff.
G. — Google review
Went here on a recommendation. We asked our server for suggestions on what is good to eat which she said she had none. She really didn’t want to be working here and literally groaned as she took our order. The goats cheese and cecina salad came out and I don’t know how they made lettuce taste bad but the olive oil tasted metallic and none of the flavours complimented each other. The peppers and anchovies dish was fine as it was straight from a jar. Lastly was the squid. It was drowned in ink and hadn’t been cleaned properly so I was crunching grit as I ate. Could not get out of this place fast enough. The venue looked cute though.
Esther K — Google review
We walked in excited. But left in horror. To start off the service was disappointing , the waitress did not want to be there and clearly disliked everyone in the vicinity. She was quite rude and kept groaning about. When we asked her for the check she disappeared for 20 minutes. Beyond that the food was a nightmare and I honestly need days to recover. The 4 cheese pizza was a greasy, sloppy, thick pile of disgusting cheeses (awful blue cheese, a triangle cheese? Neon orange cheese?). It was thick and slimy and will block your arteries in minutes. We ordered another pizza which consisted of canned peppers and onion chopped up snd it looked like dog food. Inedible and nauseating. The goats cheese salad was so salted i rinsed it with water to try and salvage what they call food here. The bread - stale. In hunger we pealed the cheese off and just ate the crust with sauce. I mean come on…

What a restaurant! I never thought that such a great place would exist in laguardia. Great food great customer service. Whoever goes to this restaurant has to try the cheesecake home made, wow it's amazing and of course the food aswell. The waiters and waitress always smiling, always around to help.someone. If someone finds a place better than this restaurant please let me know, because this one was the best of the best
Julio H — Google review
The food is overpriced for its quality really. But the problem is really not the price, but the quality of food. Because let me tell you, messing up a salad is not that common in restaurants, but they have managed to do it. There was water in the plate (not talking about oil or vinegar, it was water). After that, I got the lamb chops. There was about 30 grams meat in total and half fried potato. Really, there was no meat on those bones. They literally gave me someone's leftovers. Oh, and also please clean your toilets people...
Intoxu — Google review
The food was great and prices were more than reasonable. Asked for a glass of wine and got a bottle (part of their 16 euro per person set menu). Was pleasantly shocked when my partner and I received the bill of 32 euros after having 4 courses and almost a whole of bottle of wine. I could barely walk. Absolutely lovely service as well. They were very friendly although we completely butchered our Spanish and gave us great recommendations on things to do in the area. After the meal, they also let us check out their underground cave where they stored their wines. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is visiting Laguardia.

Winery and Hotel Marques de Riscal is a renowned destination in La Rioja, known for its fusion of traditional winemaking with modern architecture. Established in 1858, the winery offers tours of its expansive facilities, showcasing the production process and featuring a cellar with wines dating back centuries. The highlight is the Frank Gehry-designed hotel, characterized by its striking titanium waves in pink, gold, and silver hues.
Winery tour in English was superb. Jose explained every detail and answered all the questions very clear. Tasting was good and had a little snack to go with it. The setting is gorgeous and very well maintained. Worth the 20min drive from Logroño.

The hotel is absolutely stunning. We came for the architecture rather than the wine, and it was totally worth it. Frank Gehry’s work is fantastic. We did Wine Tour 1, and it was fine. However, from a learning perspective, I felt it lacked depth—I missed out on a lot of information, though I understand it's hard to cover everything during the visit.

A interesting winery in the heart of Spain’s Rioja region. While commercialized, the experience was still impressive and well done. The tour guide was professional and knowledgeable, walking us through the entire process — from bottling to distribution. There was an astonishing amount of wine on site, and the tasting experience was well organized and enjoyable. Overall, a cool and worthwhile visit!

Excellent experience. The tour was thorough and engaging, led by a charming guide with a great sense of humor and remarkable knowledge, even though she was not an oenologist. She shared many anecdotes and interesting facts that made the visit truly enjoyable. The wine tasting afterwards was the perfect ending to an unforgettable day. Highly recommended for wine lovers and for anyone wanting to discover the history and tradition of one of Spain’s most iconic wineries.

Fantastic winery tour and complete explanation of the wine making process. We have been to many wineries and this is car the best tour we have done. Our tour guide Assad was great and took time to answer all our questions and add lots of historical context to the tour. The winery is beautiful and the Ghery building worth a visit.

Our experience at Marqués de Riscal was very good. The setting is stunning, the architecture is unique, and the service was professional and attentive. The food and wine were well-prepared and enjoyable, making for a memorable meal. While it was a great experience overall, it was not the very best we’ve had during our trip. Still, it’s a place worth visiting for the combination of history, design, and quality.

Asaad gave us the best wine tour we’ve ever experienced. His explanations were clear, engaging, and easy to follow, and the video added great context. Absolutely beautiful winery, hotel and grounds. Do not miss it. Reservations are a must.

Bodegas Valdelana is a historic, family-run winery located in Elciego, with roots dating back to the 11th century. King Felipe II granted independence to Elciego from Laguardia in 1583. Visitors can enjoy breakfast and tours of the wine museum at this informal hotel within the winery. The atmosphere at Valdelana is described as less commercial and more family-oriented compared to other wineries.
A group of six of us came to tour the winery and it was very informative. Jennifer gave us the tour and the wine tasting and she was very professional, friendly and patient with all our questions. One person in our group isn’t much it into wines, but she liked two of them. When we went to the field to see the grapes, Maria, another guide, explained to us, who are not wine connoisseurs, in a language we could understand. We are very pleased for the explanations and service. We bought several bottles of wines to share with our friends.

Very informative tour, beautiful grounds, great wine. We opted for the lunch picnic, which was lovely and very worth it. We also walked from LaGuardia, which took about 20 mins down a small vineyard road with almost no traffic. It is a bit uphill coming back but not an issue for us.

We did the picnic in the vines tour and it was amazing! Torre de Ona is a short walk from Laguardia and we joined the English speaking tour at 12:30. Melissa was the perfect guide, explaining the soil, the vines and then the process of extracting and producing white and red wines from the different regions of the local vineyards. The meal comprised tortilla, tomato in olive oil, stuffed peppers, bread, cheese and a bottle each of red and white wines. The food was spot on and the wines are up there with the best I've had. So smooth and drinkable. The staff were friendly and welcoming and made this the perfect afternoon experience in Rioja. Highly recommended.

I am much belated in writing this review, as we visited a year ago, but Torre de Ona is a must-stop bodega! We were lucky enough to accidentally end up with a private tour, just my fiance, his parents and a friend. Since his parents don't speak English and I have some Spanish, we opted for a Spanish language tour. But even with my limited vocabulary, it was very easy to understand our lovely hostess as she was so expressive and patient. We loved learning the history and the process of winemaking in this region -- and the tasting was wonderful. We each left with a bottle of every type :) I would not hesitate to return!

Bodegas Carlos San Pedro Pérez de Viñaspre is located in Haro, one of the prestigious winemaking regions in Spain with DOCa status. The bodega is situated on Avenida Vizcaya, known as Rioja's Avenue de Champagne, and offers wine tastings in its grand wine bars. Visitors can take an English tour to explore the underground cave winery and enjoy a tasting of their wines.
Had a great tour here with tasting some lovely wines. Our guide spoke very good English. Family run winery. Bought a few bottle of the lovely white wine as well as red.

A family run bodega. Very reasonable price and the explanation is very clear. The three wine tasting is recommended, their best wine is very good. There is no hard sale or pressure on their products. Actually I don't think they even try to promote their wine, which I feel very comfortable. Not sure what extra value could have by paying double or triple at other bodegas. They are the only one that offers English session DAILY.

Just visited San Pedro as we were in LaGuardia, our first tasting in the Rioja valley. Told we'd be charged for the tasting, €3 a taste! Asked him to tell us about the wines. What do you want to know was the response. We purchased even though he was completely disinterested. Went down the street for Pintxos and glass of the same wines were on the menu for less. Needless to say, we won't be back.

The website advertises that there is a 5pm English tour on Monday however it has actually changed to 4:15pm on the poster outside the bodega. Despite this error, the owner was able to cater for us and gave us a tour. He was one of the brothers (the one that doesn’t usually do the English tours) who runs the winery and he was super friendly and insightful in showing us around the place as well as provide history on the town. This is a family run winery for many generations so it was amazing to hear the stories about how the wine was made centuries ago! There are over 300 underground cellars in LaGuardia however very few still operate today hence why this tour was very special and different from any other wine tour I’ve done before! Here’s to hoping they will be able to ship wine to our countries one day! Thank you for the amazing experience this afternoon!!

Very interesting tour of the caves of a family run winery. Carlos was full of enthusiasm and we had a great experience. Well worth stopping by. €10 to taste 3 wines, €7 for 2. Great communication by email for booking a tour too

We drank this wine in a restaurant 100 metres away, it was soooo good. We went & bought a case the next day - it's even better than we remember! 7E a bottle - fair pricing too. Would have loved to have seen the cellar but didn't get there at the right time. Owner speaks good English.

We visited Carlos at his winery today and it was very unique and fun to see how wine was made underground in caves. Carlos was fun and very knowledgeable and well spoken.

Bodega Señorío de las Viñas is one of the many wineries in the town, offering a warm and pleasant atmosphere with well-prepared homemade food and delicious wine. Visitors can also explore other wine-related options such as the Wine Oil Spa in Laguardia or the Villa Lucia Wine-Themed Centre. The comfortable rooms, simple yet tasty food, and welcoming hosts make it a perfect place for those who love Spain.
If you love Spain you’ll love this place. Comfortable rooms, simple, tasty food, delicious wine and a warm welcome from the ladies who run it. They were especially kind to our children, who loved the pool and the dogs. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and dramatic, and we came away with a boot-load of fine wine at bargain prices. A year later we were still enjoying our last bottles and pinching ourselves about how cheap it had been - the most delicious wine.

Viña Real is a modern winery located between Laguardia and Logrono in Rioja, Spain. The winery was designed by Bordeaux architect Philippe Mazieres and is an impressive engineering feat, cut into the side of a mountain. Although the winery is relatively new (completed in 2004), it has over 100 years of tradition behind it. Visitors can take a 60-minute tour with an informative guide who explains everything clearly and answers questions openly.
Absolutely fantastic. I am in the wine industry and so I’ve done a LOT of tours and tastings and this was one of my favourite ones. The facility, staff and wines are all incredible. I would highly recommend you put this on your Rioja itinerary

Absolutely incredible tour with the amazing Angelique! I’ve done a handful of winery tours around the world and this facility is something else (no spoilers as you have to see it to feel it). The tour was made all the better by Angelique who had phenomenal English and a thorough grasp of the wine making process. Very special tour which has made me a Vina Real convert! We also went to their other winery with a cellar door 2km down the road as recommended by Angelique. Contino was also very special and worth a visit!

Do not miss! If you can only visit one winery in Rioja - this should be it. Exceptionally clever, innovative and beautiful wine production design and engineering is unlike anything you have ever seen. Friendly and informative tour was perfect. And of course the wine was delicious.
Matt D — Google review
Four of us had a wonderful visit - despite it being busy at harvest time, we were most welcome guests thanks to our guide, Angelique. We opted for the tasting and tour, and got to see the workings of this very famous winery that continues to produce age-worthy Riojas that represent a standard of great wine quality. This qualify of Bordeaux wine would be at least 3 times as expensive. Viña Real is definitely worth a visit if you have a little time to spend in or near Logroño. Our group will remember the visit for the passion of the team, their warmth and the quality of the wine.

Really enjoyed the experience. Our guide was explaining everything very clearly and was very open to answer any question. The tour was about 60minutes, with tasting of 2 wines at the end. The vinery that was part of the tour is quite new (~10years), but the company have more than 100 year of tradition. Very nice stuff and the vinery was amazing :)

We learned so much from our winery tour with Rebecca. We enjoyed going through all the areas of this beautiful facility. We really felt like we got an intimate glimpse of this working winery. Rebecca was great at explaining the company history, the wine making process, and discussing the wines made a Vina Real. The wines at the end of the tour were delicious. I highly recommend scheduling a wine tour with Bodega Vina Real.

C.V.N.E. and their Vina Real have been our "go to" wines for the authentic taste of Rioja. It was lovely to visit the winery at long last and see where it is made. Place was super fun. Worth it as it's in the center of town. We had the best room in the place with a view of the cuckoo clock. The bells do chime a lot but stop by midnight. Servers were great. No one told us to go down to the caves underneath....make sure u do it! So fun to have a glass of wine in ancient caves.

Really nice hotel. Nice restaurant. Nearby a lot of bars, and restaurants. The cellar in the cave on floor -2 is fun to have a drink even if you aren't staying here. Just walk in past the check in counter and turn right to the stairs. Go down two levels. It wasn't open on Wednesday, but I think it's open every other day. But closed from like 2pm to 4pm or something.

We didn't stay at the hotel but decided to try its restaurant for dinner. Since the outdoor tables were full, we headed inside and were invited to have a drink at their bar, located two stories below ground. That's where the real surprise awaited us. The bar was stunning, featuring multiple rooms carved directly into the subterranean stone—a truly unique and atmospheric setting. What made our evening truly unforgettable, however, was meeting Sonia. She greeted us with a warm smile and provided exceptional assistance throughout our time there. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we lost track of time, and by the time we realized, the restaurant had closed. No problem—we ended up savoring an amazing burger right there in the bar instead. This spot is absolutely worth a visit for the incredible ambiance and the wonderful service from Sonia. It turned out to be our best night in the city!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 We recently had the most enchanting experience at the stunning boutique hotel and restaurant in La Guardia, Spain. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the charm and beauty that surrounded us. The hotel itself was a luxurious oasis, blending modern amenities with traditional Spanish architecture seamlessly. Our room was elegantly decorated. The attention to detail and comfort provided made us feel pampered and at home throughout our stay. The restaurant on-site was a culinary delight! Every meal we had was a gastronomic journey, showcasing the finest ingredients and flavors of the region. The talented chefs truly outdid themselves, and the impeccable service only added to the exceptional dining experience. What truly set this establishment apart was the impeccable hospitality of the family and staff that run it. From the warm welcome at check-in to the personalized recommendations for exploring La Guardia, every team member went above and beyond to ensure my stay was memorable and enjoyable. We cannot recommend this hotel and restaurant highly enough. If you are looking for a luxurious getaway in La Guardia, look no further. This hidden gem is a true five-star experience that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and inspired. We cannot wait to return to this beautiful haven in the heart of Spain and visit beautiful owner Chari and her Team.

We booked a 2 night stay at this hotel, it’s a very nice family run business, the staff is so friendly, the owner Chairi is passionate about taking the hotel to the next level. Diego, Juan and Natalia made our stay so comfortable, hospitality 10/10! Its also a great place if you want to propose to your future wife. I also lost my Wallet on the the terrace, and Chairi noticed me if I’d lost it, but I didn’t even notice myself yet, so grateful for that. They have an Amazing wine cellar where Sonya / Pedro gets you the best wine & pinxto’s. I will recommend this hotel to all my friends and natives. Amazing stay! Thanks

The hotel is situated in the lovely village of Laguardia and whilst the staff were friendly and helpful, overall we were left wanting having read the reviews. We only stayed one night but our room had no window to the outside, only to a covered courtyard, so the room became stuffy. On arrival we visited the cave in the basement to enjoy the welcome drink and snack. I can't think of a worse place to enjoy a glass of regional wine! We dined in the restaurant in the evening and whilst we enjoyed the food, delivered with good service, it was way overpriced for what it was. The starter, clams in a parsely sauce, whilst tasty, amounted to 10 clams to share between two! This was followed by lamb. The cost of the meal was similar to that found in San Sebastien but not of the quality. The breakfast buffet was good, let down by the awful omelette which was inedible. I very rarely write a review such as this and only hope that we visited on a off day.

What a unique location, backed up by lovely rooms and excellent service from everyone in the hotel. Our room was beautiful, atmospheric and comfortable. We had dinner sitting outside and the food was very good as was the service - friendly, efficient and professional. Needless to say perhaps, the wine list was extensive and we got good help in choosing a lovely bottle of Rioja.

We were so happy we chose this place. It was perfect. Entering the building was impressive, so historic and beautiful. We received such a great welcome from the lovely owner Javier. It was a pleasure speaking with him throughout our stay there. We loved our bedroom and the breakfast was so beautifully presented at our table the next morning ( a great selection of fruits, beverage's, local cheeses, meats etc) We also ate dinner at their restaurant and it was fabulous. The lovely lady who served us was so informative and helpful when choosing from the menu and and wine list from their own winery. It was the best dinner and wine we had during our entire trip. Thank you to the lovely yousef (hope i spelt correctly) who very kindly offered a tour of the cave winery downstairs ( Also thanks for your patience with our attempts at speaking french with an Irish accent! ) .His enthusiasm and passion for his job was wonderful. This is a generational family business with amazing staff. It's clear that they all work so hard in maintaining this successful and special place. We look forward to a return visit in the future. Review is for the restaurant only. Mixed feelings. Beautiful setting in a historical building. We had the blood sausage with peppers, not good, served liquid, like a blood stew. The ribeye (actually NY strip) was awesome, tender and delicious. So were the lamb cutlets. The French fries tasted like stale oil. The wine was warm and average and the serving size ridiculously small. Fish and chuletón are overpriced, even though the quality looks top notch.

Dining at Mayor de Migueloa was an unforgettable experience. The food was outstanding — the meat, in particular, was absolutely amazing, cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The atmosphere is elegant yet authentic, making it a truly special setting. A highlight of the evening was Rosemary, who went above and beyond to make our experience unique. After dinner, she graciously showed us the historic bodega and las barricas, sharing the rich history and passion behind the place. This personal touch made the night even more memorable. An absolute must-visit in Rioja!

Casa Primicia is a historic winery located in the beautiful village of Laguardia, Rioja. Legend has it that King Sancho Abarca of Navarra recognized the strategic importance of the hill where it stands and founded La Guardia de Navarra on its top. The bodega is situated inside the old city walls and offers impressive views.

Fantastic historical bodega with impressive views. This place is a must-see. We did the tour in English; Fabiola, our guide, was exceptional. The bodega is located inside the old city walls, and is steeped in history. Casa Primicia goes beyond the typical tasting tour experience in that it delves into the history of the area, the building, and the legacy of those who produced wine in it throughout the centuries. It was a fascinating tour, in a beautifully preserved centuries-old bodega, with great wine. The views from the upper level showcase impressive panoramas of the picturesque Spanish countryside.

(Translated by Google) You enter The Manor House and you feel like you're entering another world, made up of small luxuries, attentions, delicacy and history. The house is really beautiful and old, while being comfortable at the same time. The door is splendid, in one of the central streets of the small town, the entrance and all the stairs that run along the various floors are splendid. Our room was right on the top floor, but it wasn't a big problem (also because the very kind and hospitable Terri helped us). Well, the room was truly splendid: comfortable and sumptuous bed, excellent supply of towels and shower gel, even a coffee machine in the bathroom (and even a water kettle). In short, there was really everything, including perfect soundproofing which was undoubtedly necessary, considering that the nightlife of Laguardia passes right through that street. There is also a lovely terrace, which unfortunately we didn't make much use of (it wasn't very hot and both my husband and I were very cold, alas), but we could enjoy a beautiful view from the window. On the second floor there is also a large living room for common use, where there is a television, coffee, infusions, small biscuits and many interesting readings to better discover the town and its surroundings. The added value of all this, however, is Terri, the owner, who welcomed us with great kindness and made everything easier for us. Thank you with all my heart! We really wish we could have stayed longer. But I really hope to return to Laguardia and be able to stay in this delightful room once again.

(Translated by Google) We had a wonderful stay at the Manor House in the picturesque wine-growing town of Rioja la Guardia. The historic building in the charming old town offers only a few rooms, creating an intimate atmosphere. We particularly like room M4, with its magical rooftop terrace offering partial views of the village and the mountains—the perfect spot for sunset. The high-quality linens made of special cotton and the lovingly wrapped towels add a special touch to the stay. The hostess, originally from the USA, makes a great effort to get to know her guests personally, which contributes to the warm atmosphere. The rooms are air-conditioned, but there are no refrigerators. Instead, a spacious common room invites you to linger. Overall, the Manor House is a unique retreat, ideal for those seeking peace and quiet with a personal touch. We will definitely be back! The Iglesia de San Juan Bautista is a Gothic church that was once part of the city wall, featuring a Latin cross plan with three apses. The attached tower, which now serves as a bell tower, was originally one of the city gates. (Translated by Google) This church-fortress was built in the opposite sector of the town with respect to the Basilica of Santa María de los Reyes, attached to the wall and completing the southeastern end of the fortified area of Laguardia. Its current appearance is the result of successive interventions, extensions and reforms that date back from the end of the 12th century to practically the middle of the 18th century. Of its primitive late-Romanesque factory, only the so-called 'Grandparents' Gate' is preserved, since towards the end of the 13th century and during the first half of the 14th century it underwent a profound remodeling in Gothic style, being from then on configured as a church with a cross plan. Latin with three naves separated by pointed arches and covered with cross vaults, a marked transept both in plan and elevation and a tripartite head in which the larger central apse functioned. as another bastion of the walled perimeter, presenting strong buttresses between which stylized Gothic windows open. By the 16th century its defensive function became obsolete, so new reforms were undertaken, such as the transformation of its Gothic tower into a bell tower. The last major intervention was carried out in the 18th century when, following plans by the architect Juan Bautista de Arbaiza, a large octagonal chapel was built at the foot of the temple covered by a star vault dedicated to the Virgin of Pilar, whose construction Unfortunately, this led to the destruction of its original western façade, which according to different theories, presented a similar monumentality as its neighbor in Santa María de los Reyes. It displays the Virgen del Pilar, a Gothic sculpture of the Virgin and Child that corresponds to the mullion of the missing façade.

Built in several phases between the 12th and 16th centuries, with some later additions, the church of San Juan is essentially a Gothic temple, originally conceived as a church-fortress, with one of its walls integrated into the medieval wall of Laguardia and provided with a defensive tower that protected one of the entrances to the town. It has a valuable Romanesque façade from the transition to Gothic, with archivolts, columns and sculpted capitals. It had another Gothic one that was destroyed in the 16th century during renovations. That same century, once the medieval wars between Navarre and Castile were over, the military tower was transformed into the current bell tower. Among the remaining architectural and sculptural elements, several Gothic rose windows stand out; the reliefs of the central choir, with figures as unique as an ape playing a drum, and the side choirs and their decorated arches, in which you can see, among other images, a grape harvester with a basket full of grapes. Inside, the baroque main altarpiece and that of the Pilar chapel also stand out, which includes a polychrome carving of the Virgin of Pilar from the 13th or 14th century. The church was declared a national monument in 1984. Located on a mound, halfway between Haro and Logroño and a few kilometers from Elciego, Laguardia hides behind its walls a curious clock on the narrow walls of its Plaza Mayor: the Carrillón de Laguardia. Inaugurated on December 31, 1998, this carillon clock stands out for the presence of three automatons that represent the beginning of the most important festivals in Laguardia, those of San Juan. It is located at one end of the elongated Plaza Mayor, on the façade of the new town hall (from the 19th century). The old town hall of the town (from the 16th century) is also located in the same square, presided over by the coat of arms of King Charles I of Spain. During my recent visit to Laguardia, I had the pleasure of dining at Bar Restaurante Hiruko. This charming spot offers a delightful array of tapas and pinxtos that are sure to please any palate. While I opted for a refreshing salad and a small oxtail stew from their menu, which was delicious, I did find the portions slightly on the smaller side.
For traditional pintxo and tapas in La Rioja that punches above its weight for its such cheap prices - Hiruko is for you. Absolutely lovely staff that, although speak little English, provided top notch service :) Amazing.

Really disappointing experience. The service was rude and felt like we were not welcome. Speaking of the food, it was okay at best. Nothing was outright terrible, but it was bland, uninspired and very small portions. Definitely not worth the price. Wouldn’t come back. Too many better places around.

We stopped by for lunch while we were visiting Laguardia. There was a nice selection of tapas/pinxtos on the counter, but we chose a salad & a small oxtail stew from the menu. It was really tasty but we did think that the portions were a little small.

Recommended by a local hotel concierge. Hard to find because the google map location is off by 140 yards (130m). It is located right across from Hotel Hospedería de Los Parajes. Look up with its address to find the accurate location. Just had a northern Spain style paella - seafood with squid black ink at 9€ and tuna salad with fresh tomatoes and corns at 6€. Can't beat the price and quality of taste.

A tale of two meals. Arrived for our reservation and were promptly seated. A server came and asked us for our order. We wanted to put in an appetizer/salad and study the menu further. He said that he had to put our order in now as he had to serve a table of 8-12 sitting next to us. For a restaurant of this caliber we were quite put off. Not to go all out "Karen & Kevin" we put in our order. My wife ordered the baby lamb chops and I the venison covered in mushrooms. We asked how the chef preferred to cook the lamb to which our server said medium well. It was our mistake to take his advice. My venison was near perfect. The lamb nearly inedible. The lamb was dry and tough and flavorless. It ruined our 41st anniversary. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!

What an absolute wee gem, the owners are so proud of their produce especially those from their family vineyard. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented, we went heavy on the in season vegetables chargrilled and then the pig cheeks followed by the local speciality Cuajada and the Custard. Absolutely epic meal. Had initially found it on Google maps and then a friendly tourist seeing us hunt for lunch late in the afternoon suggested it so it was meant to be. And wow how delicious! The 35 euro lunch set is incredible value. The tomato salad was out of this world, the lamb chops so tender and flavourful and the selection of desserts were vast for such a small resto. Service was super friendly and warm and fast and that bottle of Rioja to go with everything was just so so delightful. Muchas gracias por todo!

We also had a tomato salad; the tomatoes were so fresh and tasted wonderful. For the main course, we had the "chiuleta de vaca Gallega" with a pinch of black salt. The meat was very tasty, tender, and juicy. It was served with salad and French fries. We loved it! Highly recommend this place!😁

We were fortunate to get into this restaurant for lunch today. Very responsive on WhatsApp for making a reservation. I dropped in a few days prior and paid the deposit. The website caught the attention of my husband because we have a vineyard in Sonoma. The service was excellent- very attentive, friendly and the food was impeccable. As others did, recommend the tuna with peppers starter. It is similar to the consistency of a dolma - delicious tuna wrapped in a pepper with the best crunchy topping and drenched in yummy olive oil and balsamic. The cod Rioja style was delicious. Cooked perfectly and the local desert was perfect. Highly recommend. Wonderful food. Great wine.

If you're looking for a unique twist on the traditional Irish pub experience, look no further than Irish Tavern Laguardia. This vibrant spot is adorned with an array of stout memorabilia, but its heart beats to a distinctly Spanish rhythm. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, often filled with locals enjoying great tapas and reasonably priced drinks. You can indulge in delicious pintxos paired with local Rioja wine without breaking the bank—perfect for those who appreciate good value!
Had a fantastic night here with the locals, the bar tender was lovely & friendly. Fantastic pintoxs. Great wine. Good prices.

Mercifully not as one might think of an Irish bar. It has lots of memorabilia relating to stout, which, I think, is a good thing. Everything else is very Spanish, which is also a good thing! Great tapas and drinks are very reasonable. Great atmosphere as well, usually seems to be full of locals having a good time. Highly recommended.

Excellent variety and abundance of tapas, pinchos... And beer! Not really Irish but who really cares with such an enjoyable place!

I had a fantastic pintxo with a glass of white local Rioja all for under 4 Euros. Helpful staff and good value for money. It says it's open til 4am. I very much doubt that in the winter season, but it was open at 5.30 to 6.30 and probably closed when the customers go! Great sunset from the door on to the road

It pains me to even give 3 stars but it is what it is... This is the usual food vs customer service. During the day, the setting is amazing and the pintxos are incredible. The quality of the service doesn't matter too much as you pickup and eat outside. And the price is very good. Late at night, the quality/quantity of the pintxos is reduced which I'm fine with. But the way you are treated by the staff is unacceptable. Examples for the worst waiter in Spain on 24/08/2021 : - At the bar "can I ask you a question?". Answer: can't you see I'm busy - Outside (he's doing nothing and empty handed) "hi can we have another drink or are you closing?" Answer: I only do service inside don't speak to me Paying cheap doesn't excuse this kind of behaviour. Anyway. If the management reads this and care: 1- Keep up the amazing day time pintxos 2- Fire your evening guy

(Translated by Google) A wonderful and authentic wine tour at a small family-run winery with deep roots in tradition. The tour was led today by the vineyard's son and his cousin – hospitable, knowledgeable, and clearly enjoying themselves. We got a wonderful glimpse into the entire process, from grape to bottle, entirely managed in-house. The wines are full of character and were served with fresh bread and homemade sausage. Bottles are available for purchase at the end, ranging from €5 to €25. Highly recommended for lovers of real wine and honest stories! (Translated by Google) An unforgettable experience. We visited these wineries a while ago on our route through northern Spain. We only had time to visit a few wineries, and we couldn't have made a better choice. The service is very friendly. Ana gave us the tour and explained the entire process; the passion and care behind this business are evident. They offer a taste of their wine with some cured meats to accompany it. It's a shame we were driving later because I would have tried more types of wine, as they had several. We were very comfortable, and it was an educational and interesting visit. At the end of the tour, you can buy their products, which I highly recommend, firstly because the wine is delicious, and secondly because you're buying without intermediaries, and you get a bottle at a price you won't find anywhere else.

Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi is a must-visit winery located just outside of Laguardia in the La Rioja region. The winery is known for its exceptional single vineyard wines and offers a great tasting experience. Visitors can also enjoy a tour of the vineyard, including the magnificent El Pison grapes. The staff, particularly Cristina, are knowledgeable and courteous, making it a lovely and welcoming place to visit.
Wonderful wines and such a lovely family. We had the pleasure of a tour, given by a family member She spoke so passionate about the wine. As she described the wines, you could smell and taste everything component she mentioned. It was a true pleasure visiting this Bodega. Gracias, cheers to many more years of success.

Exceptional wines and extremely courteous. We were given the name of Artadi as a reference and a place to visit during our trip to la Rioja. Unknowingly, we ended up visiting one of the most lovely bodega of the region. Not only did they accommodate us by letting us join a visit last minute, they also showed us around the vineyard (where the grapes of the magnificent El Pison grows). Cristina was a very knowledgeable host. Thank you for everything - we will definitely drink Artadi in the future!
Deep D — Google review
The philosophy of this winery is very different from what we see in the region: they produce single vineyard wines, much like they do in Burgundy (but with 100% Tempranillo). The visit of the property was really in-depth, all our questions were answered and the tasting at the end was great. Not a lot of wineries will give you a taste of older, finer vintages (2007 Pagos Viejos). Highly recommend!

(Translated by Google) This Glorioso 2019 from Bodegas Cosme Palacio is, in my humble opinion, one of the most excellent Crianzas from the Rioja Alavesa. It is not in vain that the main specialists give it between 90 and 91 points. Wine of total tradition from a century-old winery where selected grapes and French oak barrels generate this aging that reaches 14.5 degrees. In this vintage it shows great aromatic intensity where the fruity character of 100 percent Tempranillo stands out. In its tasting we appreciate a garnet red and on the nose it is very intense in fruit aromas that remind us of the fruits of the forest such as blueberries, blackberry and raspberry with an elegant background of cedar and tobacco, chocolate and cinnamon as aromas integrated by its aging for 12 months. in Bordeaux barrel. In the mouth, its structure, elegance and silkiness stand out, with a truffled finish of minerality. I recommend this Glorioso 2019 for quality and a more than affordable price, with which you will always get it right. Experts tell us that we should consume it at 16 degrees, with a versatile pairing to accompany grilled white and red meats, blue fish such as emperor and cured cheeses.

(Translated by Google) Dear Garnacha, you and I have a special relationship, intense and alive.. eternal too. But I've always told you that a well-treated Tempranillo in French oak can add a lot, a lot, a lot to our relationship... and that, from time to time, you have to give yourself over to that purpose. 2019's Glorioso Criança is a clear example. A good Rioja never disappoints... ever. A Tempranillo aged 12 months in French oak barrels either..... Glorioso is one of the clear examples of knowing how to handle Tempranillo. I was about to discard any wine that had too much tempranillo, I had tasted oenological abuse of this millennial variety many times and almost....almost, I gave up....I have reborn and learned ☺️ Glorioso is a superb wine, with intense aromas of red fruit, a long and deep nose. Also with a lasting taste, prolonged, intense again, of those that you never tire of repeating...😍 Thank you Cosme Palacios for such broth ‼️ Tried today at my house with the first stewed lentils with spicy "sarta" Melquiades de Zamora sausage (one of the best in the world), sausages, cutlet and those essential pieces of ham.... 🤤 Glorious all together, like life itself 😍 (Original) Estimada garnatxa, tu i jo tenim una relació especial, intensa i viva.. eterna també.

The Estanque Celtibérico de la Barbacana, also known as Barbakanako Urmael Zeltiberiarra, is a significant attraction in Laguardia. Built over 2000 years ago and discovered only in 1998, this man-made reservoir is the largest of its kind in Europe from that time period. It is exceptionally well-preserved and offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient construction techniques.
This should be an essential part of any visit to Laguardia ... discovered only in 1998, this is a man-made reservoir constructed 2100 years ago, the largest construction of its type and period in Europe and remarkably complete. It’s absolutely fascinating. Previously open only irregularly, it now has regular (and, I’m assured, reliable!) opening times ... check the tourist office for details. Unfortunately the “interpretation centre” material is only in Spanish, but the excellent guide speaks good English and is extremely helpful. Note that the “pond” is entirely enclosed within new building work and is invisible unless you take one of the scheduled tours.

In addition to European meals, they also serve tasty vegetarian options and Mediterranean cuisine that is easy to digest. Their burgers are highly recommended and come with delicious sides like fries, salads, or wedges. For breakfast, they provide a delightful brunch menu.
Had a lovely meal here. The table was by the window overlooking the beautiful countryside. The staff were very friendly and made our evening here very pleasant. It was quiet in the restaurant, but we were eating quite early by Spanish standards. If staying at Silken hotel and didn't fancy the walk up the hill in the evening heat, there is an ascensor up into town near the restaurant.

Don’t let this place fool you, the staff was kind and attentive. We had great tapas and our main courses were very good. The ox cannelloni was a unique and great flavour. My beef steak was cooked perfectly. This restaurant had a good local feel and was still seeing folks arrive at 11:00pm. The desserts were fantastic and the cheese plate was a delicious surprise.

Food was excellent. Nicely made up and very tasty. Also, value for money is exceptional. I do highly recommend gastro bar Doña Blanca. Also: very, very cold and tasty beer in the best cups ever! One con: staff does not speak English at all (but are friendly).

Nice place with good food. Main dishes are quite tasteful, but what we were missing was a proper side dishes or a salat. But we have noticed that in this area it just functions like that. Deserts are very good and wines are just perfect..

Fish didn’t have any taste, pork was raw. We waited at least half an hour for appetizers. The waitress was paying attention to anything but the clients. This should be your last option for dinner. Bon appétit!

Excellent meal and service. The cheesecake was amazingly good.

Delicious food from starters til Main course. Squid, prawns and Orange Salad with cod flakes are a must. Super super wine recommendations. Fantastic Service.

Incredible restaurant - we loved every dish we ordered (carpaccio, octopus, tomato w/ mozzarella, meatballs, garlic shrimp, croquetas). Fantastic wine selection as well, but to be expected in this area.

Restaurant
Arabako Errioxako Batzokia is a delightful dining destination that promises an unforgettable culinary experience. Guests rave about the exceptional quality of the food, with highlights including their daily specials like salmorejo and mouthwatering desserts. The atmosphere is enhanced by friendly and attentive staff, particularly a charming waiter named Julio, who adds a personal touch to your visit. Diners appreciate the generous portions, such as the impressive 1KG chuleton, which offers great value for money.
The food was amazing but more so was the customer service. I would definitely come back again.

Had a fantastic lunch. Great service from a witty and patient waiter, whose English was marvellous. Fabulous food. Great quality and a really good deal. Recommended. Would visit again.

Had a chuleton which was disappointment. First of all it was served rather cold and we must complain. They tried to warm it but no improvement. Finally, after long waiting, they brought us a hot plate to get meat warm. They also claim it is a premium chuleton but based on the taste, we disagree. The wines were fine, and were only thing we liked (well it is in Rioja wine area so would be quite difficult to screw them up)
Jani H — Google review
Decent place in the appearance but decieving seriousness in service. Be aware of chuletons overweighted and with poor quality when compared to regular customers around. We asked for a menu of 18 euros and at the end they forced to pay 60 euros for a bad piece of meat.in short if you can get away of this place.

The dining experience at Restaurante El Bodegón in Laguardia was highly enjoyable. The delicious Goat Cheese Salad, Duck Timbale, and local Dessert were particularly delightful. A bottle of the house wine added to the overall satisfaction. The server displayed a good sense of humor and made the time spent there even more enjoyable. This restaurant is an excellent choice for lunch, with friendly staff and reasonable prices.
What a gem of a little restaurant in Laguardia we visited today! The food was so delicious and the beer and wine were really good! The service was of a high standard. Do yourself a favour and pop in!

Wry good place for having lunch. Everything was fine and the people very friendly. I would repeat but the wine was not at the level of the region.

Best lunch you can find for 30 euro.

Very bad service and grumpy server. The food was overly oily and portions were small. We get that oil is part of the plating, but there was little care for the final presentation. There's far better for this price in Laguardia.
