Ereaga

Mentioned on
9 lists
Beach
Ereaga is a stunning beach located in Getxo, just a stone's throw from Bilbao. This urban gem stretches nearly 800 meters and boasts soft sands that have attracted visitors for generations, including European aristocrats in the past. The beach is not only perfect for sunbathing but also offers excellent facilities for sports like soccer and beach volleyball. After enjoying the sun and surf, you can indulge your taste buds at Tamarises Hoista, an exquisite restaurant by chef Javier Hoista.
Very nice beach with very nice water. When the sun is out, it is even better. The sand is clean and so is the water. Perfect for children or dogs since the sand is ideal for making holes. The only thing that is a problem is the view, it's good but the industrial zone is also inside the view.
Michael S — Google review
Lovely beach with convenient parking, toilets and restaurants. Lovely walk along the corniche towards the old port. Quite gentle waves. Some paddle boarders and surfers.
Natalya M — Google review
Not too big, but not too crowded either. It's sand is nice. And there is constant wind for water sports lovers. But you need to be careful cos of the rocks, especially tricky when going from high to low tide.
Terry V — Google review
Ereaga Beach in Getxo is a beautiful seaside destination. The sandy shore and picturesque views of the Bay of Biscay make it a perfect spot for relaxation and recreation. The promenade is great for a leisurely stroll or bike ride, with cafes and restaurants nearby offering delicious seafood. Whether you're looking to sunbathe, swim, or simply enjoy the scenery, Ereaga Beach is a delightful choice in Getxo.

beautiful Beach. But the water is not so clear and beautiful.
Soren R — Google review
Nice beach near the city, clean with a few terraces.
Ronald K — Google review
A nice beach but gets very busy. The view is also spoiled slightly by the shipping and harbour in the distance.

Loved this quiet clean beach and a quick train ride from Bilbao

I really loved this place. The vibe, the food, the drinks, the people. All in general. Really makes you wish you could stay longer or come back more often.
Iwona S — Google review
One of my favorite places in Bilbao. Nice atmosphere, bars, beach and of course the sunset. From there you may take a walk right to Portugalete. Easy to reach by Metro, Algorta station and then just go down towards the sea.
Vera A — Google review
If you're in the Algorta area I highly recommed to visit this little fisherman's village. Cozy, beautiful sights and plenty of little restaurants to make a stop and have a taste of the deliciousness of Basque gastronomy. Fish is king here! Beach at the bottom of the village to top a wonderful excursion!
Eva M — Google review
Nice area to visit with local restaurants and beautiful local architecture

Lovely walk along the beach. Refreshing breeze, beautiful views and a taberna for a glass of wine, coffee, or a bite to eat. It's what a visit to País Vasco is all about!

Bizkaia Bridge

Mentioned on
4 lists
Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Vizcaya Bridge, also known as Puente Colgante, is a monumental iron structure that connects the neighborhoods of Las Arenas and Portugalete over the Estuary of Bilbao. This architectural marvel was completed in 1893 and was the world's first transporter bridge to carry both people and traffic on a high suspended gondola. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its significance as an icon of industrial architecture.
This is a spectacular hanging bridge which you cross the river on a platform. It has been in operation since the late 1800s, which is amazing. The platform takes about 4 cars, bikes and passengers. It only cost €0.95 for a person and a bike! Definitely a must do. It runs every 5 mins, and you can spend a lot of time just watching it travel back and forward. Even for those non-Engineers out there it is something special. There are less than 10 of these hanging bridges world wide, so no wonder it is a UNESCO site.
Simon R — Google review
Very interesting piece of architecture / engineering. Pretty iconic in Bilbao. We went on the hanging gondola, but you can get the lift up to the top and walk across. Apparently this was in the original design but wasn't added until much later
Tony E — Google review
An interesting architecture bridge with a hanging gondola. If you have few hours to spare while in Bilbao. Recommend to take a train or metro to Portugalete and visit the site. Take the chance and go up the elevator and cross by foot on the top wooden platform, excelente views.
Ilan H — Google review
The bridge spans the estuary of the Ría de Bilbao where it meets the sea, in the province of Biscay (Basque Country), northern Spain. It connects the towns of Portugalete and Getxo. The Bizkaia Bridge is the world’s first metal-structure transporter bridge (also called a ferry-bridge), where a gondola (platform) carries vehicles and pedestrians across the river beneath a high span. Designed by engineer Alberto Palacio (with assistance from Ferdinand Arnodin) and inaugurated on 28 July 1893. It is considered a landmark of industrial-era iron architecture and engineering.
YOGESH S — Google review
Inexpensive, fun, educational ride across the river on a "ferry" platform suspended over the river by a gantry crane operating between the two shore towers. One of only 5 of these 1880s "flying ferries" for cars an d people still in operation.
Christopher H — Google review
Crossing is very affordable at 0.55€ each, getting the lift to walk on the top is 10€ each. The views from the top are amazing, plus very high, with gaps in the wooden boards as you walk, can be a bit scary. Also when the hanging platform crosses its rocks the upper platform!
Gary O — Google review
The view from the bridge is very nice. It is worth going up, walking to the other side of the river, and then coming back by the cable ferry
Olga G — Google review
Really interesting piece of infrastructure if you’re into that thing. It’s only €0.55 to cross on the gondola, you can pay about €8 to walk across along the top but I couldn’t convince my friends to do it with me.

Palacio Lezama-Leguizamón

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Castles
Palacio Lezama-Leguizamón is an elegant and grand mansion located at Atxekolandeta, 1 in Algorta. The mansion features a central tower inspired by the Monterrey Palace in Salamanca and has undergone numerous modifications and reforms since its original construction in 1902 by J.M. Basterra, with the final reform carried out around 1921 by architect Manuel M Smith.
Architecture doesn't come finer than this. As a means of modern day time travel, this gorgeously maintained home shows the life of those with a touch more, from years gone by. To be fair, they had a huge slice of style, as this is shown in the huge arches, beautiful gardens, grand rooms and overall elegance of this place.

(Translated by Google) Between Ereaga beach and the Abra bay formed by the mouth of the Nervión is the Marqués de Arriluce e Ybarra promenade. This is one of the most beautiful walks in Euskadi where you can see some beautiful stately mansions and palaces built at the beginning of the 20th century by the Basque gentry, all surrounded by large garden spaces. The Lezama-Leguizamon palace is, surely, the best known and most stately of all of them. The palace was initially built in 1903 by order of the businessman and politician Luis Lezama Leguizamón. Although in 1919 the Basque architect Manuel María Smith carried out a thorough reconstruction of the palace. The palace is built in sandstone ashlar with a long gallery with semicircular arches, highlighting in the center the tower topped with pinnacles that connects the two side buildings. Manuel María Smith also designed and built some of the mansions and palaces that are in this same neighborhood of Neguri, such as the palace of the Marquis of Olaso or the Casa Aitzgoyen, and on the nearby Zugatzarte avenue, such as the Casa Cisco or the Ampuero palace, in mountain style. Many of these mansions have been converted into hotels or rehabilitated, transforming them into luxury homes. As a curious fact, we also say that the architect Manuel María Smith himself designed the old San Mamés stadium in Bilbao in 1913. A quiet walk through the Abra bay will allow us to contemplate the magnificent architecture of these palaces, which reminds us of the years of maximum splendor that the city of Getxo experienced at the beginning of the last century with the construction of palaces and large mansions of the upper bourgeoisie. A beautiful palace that is worth seeing even if we can only do it from the outside.

Came here on a rainy day in September. Beautiful.

Quiet on a Tuesday in mid-may, apart from the diggers and tonka-style trucks moving the sand back across the beach. This shows the hard work the local authorities will take to make sure the beach is in tip-top condition and ready for the full season, and was interesting to watch on a quiet Tuesday. A lovely spot, facing the Bay of Biscay and the Bilbao ports, with cliffs linig the right hand side.

Great mall. Relaxed environment. Many comments here about lack of safety and pandemic controls, in this time of pandemic! Well, if you think so, best you stay home - and not go out! Reality is, most people going to catch the virus, unless you stay home alone! In Spain, many people living inside the apartment, so even if they stay alone, it’s possible they catch the virus via the plumbing system. Best you go to China, rather than complain! Or elect an effective government! Don’t forget to thank all the Chinese who support Spanish people in fighting the virus! By the way, theirs a Chino shop, nearby the mall! Get yourself some masks!
Dan A — Google review
You'll find the food cheap but there's a catch, everything else could be over price. We go there, buy the food and the cat litter there and nothing else because everything else it's overprice compared to what you can find online

Tamarises Izarra jatetxea

$$$$affordable
Restaurant
Tamarises Izarra jatetxea is a culinary gem perched on the first floor, offering stunning views of Ereaga beach. With over a century of gastronomic history, this restaurant showcases the creative talents of Chef Javier Izarra through contemporary Basque tasting menus that are beautifully presented. Diners can indulge in exquisite dishes like txangurro with Iberico gratin and lamb millefeuille, alongside an array of other enticing options.
We came here last Sunday for lunch with a group of 15 people. Initially we were in the tavern downstairs and there was also confusion concerning the time of reservation. We thought 13h but it turned out to be 13h30, where the fault was entirely ours. However, by 13h15 we were allowed in without any problems. We were seated upstairs in a larger room at a huge table. It was somewhat reminiscent of a wedding party. So at first the atmosphere was a bit strange. However, the service was tremendously obliging and almost perfect. We were listened to and we were all allowed to choose a la carte. In Belgium, it often happens that with such a company, you can only choose a limited number of different dishes. We all took fish and it was perfectly prepared from the first to the last person. I have rarely eaten such delicious tuna in my life! After three days I was tired of gazpacho, but this restaurant's version with mint and strawberry tasted excellent! We were served bread several times and were always allowed to choose from several varieties. We also liked the wine so much that some of us scanned the bottle to purchase it ourselves later. At dessert, someone in our party requested Irish coffee and although this seemed an unfamiliar concept to the service, it was agreed to. The Irish coffee seemed to be 50 percent coffee and 50 percent whiskey, but tasted no less (and it made us laugh). For me the best meal of my stay in and around Bilbao, despite the atmosphere of the room haha. My recommendation? Come by rental bike from Bilbao along the Viscaya bridge, or take the metro from Bilbao to the bridge (Areeta stop) and walk another 40 minutes along the water to this restaurant, because you should taste this!
Evelyn S — Google review
We had a stop at Bilbao for one night and we stayed at the hotel nearby tamarises restaurant. We ordered the cuttlefish, cod and burger. The 3 dishes were really good. The food at this restaurant is highly recommended (it is not cheap though). We were sitting at the terrace and we had 2 problems. One was the people smoking and it was very annoying. I understand that it is outside but it is still covered and people are close. In Canada at restaurants, smoking is not allowed even outside. The other issue was the service. It was slow a bit and the waiter changed 3 times for our table.
Ghassan S — Google review
Awesome experience, very tasted food, all meals were incredible. Recommended 10000% Only small issue they haven't wheelchair access, but the staff prepared a table on the ground floor, and our waitress was incredibly well attended, their suggestions all perfect and very friendly chef as well.
Joan F — Google review
We had a lunch in the restaurant. The restaurant is on the seaside, has nice view and the interior was very pleasant. We asked for the English menu but they did not have it - no problem, we wanted to translate the Spanish one. The waiter did not know the wifi code, tried several times 2-3 codes but it did not work. Finallly we could translate it, ordered the soup to share and 2 main courses. The soup is enough for 4 persons, we regreted so much when it was taken away - we could not eat that portion. We asked the waiter why it is not written on the menu that it is for 4 persons but he answered that yes, it is huge portion. Portion of the main courses was ok. In sum the food was not really tasty, we expected more from this restaurant and for the price.
Virág ( — Google review
Really nice little restaurant with a beautiful sea view. Took the metro from central Bilbao to Gexto looking for a nice meal near the beach and it was lovely. €15 Sangria bucket was ace as well as the duck was so tender. Definitely recommend!
Daniel A — Google review
Worst meal in 5 trips to Spain. We had a 9p reservation. The appetizer fish was not fresh. The peppers on side were burnt. I at less than 1/2 the dish. No questions asked on how it was. The entree fish (turbot) was even worse - inedible. It is the only meal we had in a week in Basque that was not great - and it was truly awful. The best part of meal was the bottle of wine. They brought each course before we were done with next. 3 courses were served in less than an hour - unheard of in Spain. We left before 10:15p. The service from the front was also odd. He seemed to hesitate to seat us initially. He asked if we were done when he saw me push the fish away but did not ask if it was ok - seeing only one bite eaten. After mentioning the fish tasted bad, he did take the entree off the bill and said he told the kitchen, but no apology.
S E — Google review
Reviewing the restaurant up stairs in the first floor. Reservation was easy via their website where you also could indicate the tasting menu you want to sample - in case you are not opting for a La Carte. We had the chefs special running at 79 EUR per person without the wine pairing. The restaurant is mainly visited by locals at least that was our impression during the lunch time. The waiters were all extremely friendly and attentive. The tasting menu was a delight and a nice selection of Basque cuisine. We opted for a Txakoli as drink which was nice and refreshing. Recommend if you are visiting the Vizcaya Bridge nearby or just Getxo and the beach in general. You will have a great view from the first floor overlooking the whole beach.

Food was ok but the waiter got pissed off because only three of five wanted to eat and ended up not even bringing glasses with the water and even and opening the blinds after she sayed it was possible to open it

The food was excellent and very fast service. The place was full but they managed to get us a table. We shared the lunch menu of the day, which was delicious. The service was great, they had sold out of our chosen desert, but the waiter brought us something similar which was delicious. I can recommend this place. After a walk along the long beach promenade in Getxo I fancied a sit down and a snack. I started looking for bars that offered a vast array of Pintxos and decided on this place and I'm glad I did! :) I walked in and my eyes were presented with more savoury bar treats than I could of imagined! I went for 5 different pieces (at €1 each) both meat and seafood ones and they were all amazing, but especially the jamón ones...I could of gone back for more but held back! So, if you want a true taste of Basque Pintxo delights then definitely check out this place if you're in the area! I was that impressed I had to give it 5 stars! ;D

I stumbled across this pintxos bar in Instagram, thought I'd give it a go, and I can tell you that it did not dissapoint. There are a lot of pintxos to choose from and the service was super friendly. With Jai Alai and El Globo, it's hard to make a choice in which I prefer. Definitely my current top 2 pintxo bars in Bilbao. Go for it! * My photos don't do my experience justice, but trust me, it's worth it. I'll definitely be coming back 👌🏽😉

Lovely range of pintxos, however the terrace is dirty covered in litter and bird poo, and tables take a long time to be cleaned. Also, the service was poor and unfriendly.

Food was good, service was good and the location is nice so overall we were happy!

An excellent pinxtos bar, with a great selection of pinxtos and local wines. The staff was very friendly although they do not speak even a word in English! However, we managed somehow to communicate! In any case, it was a very pleasant experience.

Nestled in a charming village, Nikkou stands out as a must-visit destination for food lovers in the Province of Vizcaya. This delightful restaurant offers an exquisite selection of Japanese cuisine, featuring everything from traditional sushi and sashimi to innovative hot sushi and unique pinchos. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it perfect for both casual dining and special occasions.
We walked by and decided to have something to eat, the food could not be better, staff have been amazing! We brought our dog with us and have been made feel so welcome. You must try this food.

The sashimi and rolls were amazing, the staff spoke English, and the place was spotless. I totally recommend it! I'll definitely be back.

Spot on place! Every aspect of it; from it's bar, to it's restaurant, to it's location on a very hot day. + It's Nigiri, it is just something else. A+.

Very good Japanese food, a bit pricie if have to complain about something, but not massively so. Good service too :)
Ezequiel M — Google review
Nice, cozy, great staff and even (if possible) better Japanese food. A rare jewel, definitely a must. Book in advance: it's a small place!
Alejandro C — Google review
Bad value for money, not a place for sushi enthusiasts. All pieces have mayonnaise or sauces that don’t let you enjoy the taste of a sushi piece. Also service is not good, looks like a sushi artist but they bill 50€ per person. Won’t be coming back nor recommend it to anyone who likes sushi.

Random find and good quality of japanese fusion food.

Great looking dishes, awesomely prepared..!! A restaurant like this should not be serving farmed fish though. Would have given 4+ stars if it wasn't because of that. But will not be back until that changes nor I can recommend it :(

Karola Etxea

Basque restaurant
Karola Etxea is an outstanding fish restaurant where you can indulge in freshly caught seafood. It offers an intimate ambiance, making it an ideal choice for a special occasion or a romantic date. After enjoying a delicious meal at the restaurant, you can continue your evening at one of the nearby bars for a more casual experience. The price per person, which includes appetizers, drinks, and dessert to accompany your main course, is around 60 EUR.
Fish was delicious and filling and it came in lots of olive oil, a serving for two people. Desert was fried ice cream which was also amazing , it was wrapped in a crepe type thing -definitely recommend this restaurant and the decorations are creative.

Lovely quaint place in the sea fishing village part of Algorta. Fantastic food, good wine, in a family run restaurant. Best fish dishes I had in years. We were having a celebration and everyone was delighted with the food, even has a few meat dishes for those that don't fancy fish. Desserts were nice too.
Donal B — Google review
Excellent service, the food, although pricey, was a wonderful journey through basque cuisine. The perfectly prepared monkfish will stay in my memory for a long time. Highly recommended.

As Tourist in Gatxo we had entered the restaurant and honestly my wife and me almost felt like we'd been kick down the stairs... I don't even know who the heck put in front of us and he said only one word: NO. Not even an cool explanation. A mere dry NO. Bad, to bad.

Great, original place. High quality and fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection. Perfect and professional service. QPR ok though it's not cheap. This being said, you pay for the quality and service. Recommended.

Good quality fish of the day. We have ordered monkfish, paid around 70 euros for 2 person.

Great restaurant to enjoy fish (fish that was caught earlier in the day). Intimate atmosphere, so it is a great place for a date or to celebrate something special. Several bars are around, if you want to continue in a more casual mode after a great meal at the restaurant. Expect to spend 60 EUR per person including appetizers, drinks and dessert that will accompany your main course.

The bar and grill Gran Cabo - La brasa de Abdel offers delicious pintxos, accompanied by a welcoming staff and a pleasant ambiance. The food selection is excellent, with tasty small plates served in a vibrant atmosphere. The staff members are extremely friendly, ensuring customers feel comfortable and well taken care of. The overall setting exudes a cool vibe that enhances the dining experience at this establishment.
Good snacks and drinks served with a Caribbean smile.

We went for a few drinks around this area and ended up here for food. The service was great, really helpful and friendly but the food wasnt worth the price. I had the ocotpus at about €22 which was delicious, but the sides and sauce on the plate were way to salty and ehe oil flavour on the food was also not great, tasted like a really cheap olive oil. The starter, the meat platter for €20 was really good though.

(Translated by Google) We ate terribly; the chanpis weren't very good, a bit undercooked. The Moorish pintxo was very tasty, but the pieces were large and a bit dry. The Iberian secret was good, but the potatoes were burnt (they killed the flavor), and finally, the txitxarro was not only burnt but also not fresh. The service was very slow; according to what we were told, they were understaffed. The waiters were kind and friendly despite being overwhelmed. We weren't charged for the wine or txitxarro as compensation. We had been there a while ago and had eaten very well.

$$$$affordable
Restaurant
We spontaneously decided to have lunch at Dando la brasa and were thoroughly impressed by the high quality of the dishes. From delicious scallops and ceviche to mouthwatering baos with chorizo, every plate was a culinary delight. The desserts were equally amazing. Even the kids' menu offered fancy options like mini tuna steaks, pan fried tomatoes and potatoes, as well as nachos with a delectable homemade cheese dip.
Good music, friendly staff. Sometimes it seems a little understaffed but I'm patient enough not to be bothered. I visited multiple times and I have to say each time was better than the last, and every time it exceeded my expectations. As others have said, Pez Mantequilla is a must to try! But I also loved the ceviche de corvina, takitos, croquetas, ojo de bife, chuleta, torta de queso, and the pisco sour is perfectly up my alley. Strong recommend!

This place is amazing. We have been 5 times already, and every time, the kitchen nails it. The flavor is insanely good every time we go. As a local, we will keep going, and we have high standards, but it never disappoints. For us, the best place to eat ANYWHERE IN GETXO

We hopped in for an impromptu luncheon and were very much impressed by the quality of the dishes! Scallops, ceviche, baos with chorizo plus amazing desserts. The kids menu is also quite fancy offering, amongst other dishes, mini tuna steaks, pan fried tomatoes and potatoes as well as nachos with a delicious homemade cheese dip. Add an extremely friendly kitchen and service crews plus very fair priced wines and cocktails, this neighborhood spot is a solid 10/10!

Yeah this wasn’t a good experience. We walked in at around 10:30 and were met with a waiter that was reluctant to seat us because they were full. There was about 3 tables seated, one of which was clearly finished, and the others had already been served. We insisted as we were very hungry and it was the only option open at that time in the area. We were served a starter of empanadas. Just one. For two people. That’s all. He said they couldn’t serve us anything else, but we were so hungry we accepted. And the worst thing was, out of all 4 empanadas, only one was half decent, the rest were just pasty, way to salty and dry.

We had a great time at Dando la Brasa. The service was lovely, the tuna and rib eye were extraordinary and so well served. You recognize when food is done with heart and soul in this is one of those places. We loved the Friday night bar and restaurant atmosphere. Great table neighbours as well...

El bar de Rafa is a delightful culinary haven that captures the essence of traditional Spanish cuisine while adding a modern twist. Open for lunch from Monday to Friday, their menu del dia showcases flavors reminiscent of grandma's cooking, passed down through generations and thoughtfully adapted to meet contemporary tastes. Visitors rave about the exceptional service and warm hospitality, making it an ideal spot for families or anyone looking to enjoy a hearty meal.
This is the type of Spanish restaurant I really admire. Good, fresh, simple food served right. Not fancy. It is a neighborhood place, but the quality is great. You can try a little bit of Spain for a great price if you try the menu del día. I will be back.

Sukam is a restaurant that pleasantly surprised me with its fusion cuisine. Despite my initial skepticism, I found the dishes to be delicious, made with fresh and seasonal ingredients. The blend of different culinary elements was executed well, and the wine list was impressive. The portion sizes were suitable for fine dining. One thing to note is that the cheesecake dessert contains goat cheese, which may not appeal to everyone and could have been mentioned in the menu or by the waiter.
I'll admit I was skeptical when we entered the restaurant. I'm not a huge fusion fan. Well, Sukam changed that. Everything was delicious. Extremely fresh and seasonal ingredients. The different elements of the cuisines were well blended. Great wine list. Portions were normal sized for fine dining. must try

Decently priced, well tasting food, decent wines on glass. Mediocre service, less so for non spanish-speaking. Beautiful place, which deserve to be better on most points, but isn’t.

Delicious food at a reasonable price. Highly recommendable. Must though worn that the cheesecake dessert contains goat cheese!?! I would have expected this to be mentioned in the menu card or by the waiter who recommended it as the most successful dessert. Goat cheese is not everyone's favorite.

Vitoria Airport

Airport
Vitoria Airport is a small and peaceful airport located just 10 minutes away from the city. It offers quick boarding and disembarking from planes, with a convenient bus connection to Vitoria bus terminal for further travel in the area. The airport provides free parking and boasts friendly staff, making it an ideal choice for picking up and dropping off passengers. Despite its size, it offers comfortable travel with stringent security measures in place.
Nice airport. Very clean, was a quick process to get through. Staff really polite, friendly and helpful. One of the best airports I've ever been to.
H E — Google review
No publicly available transportation to city center. There is a private company La union that provides rides outside the airport but they only have one bus per flight and if you dont know that and miss it you are screwed. On the way back my flight was the only one and it had a 5 hours delay and the cafeteria was closed despite being lunch time. Everyone had to resort to candy and snacks from vending machines. Even more they dont have enough chargers outside the waiting rooms for the flights that we were kicked out of due to security reasons.
Anastasia M — Google review
very simple airport. got all basic stuff and it is around 1.5 hours from Bilbao by bus
Kevin L — Google review
Small airport. Clean. Bus to the center and heading to Bilbao as well - schedule at the airport, and online at https://regular.autobusing.com/venta/index Tickets can be bought online or on the bus. There is a winter and summer schedule. Ticket to the city (bus station or city center) costs 3€ - same online and on the bus. The bus is very comfy. Be careful as the seat is numbered so make sure you sit on your seat - see section marked on the physical ticket.
Aleksandra D — Google review
Very negative experiences with the airport in Vitoria. There are no rental car companies at the airport. Taxis were not available either. The only transport option into the city or from the city to the airport is a bus from the La Union company. On today's trip, the bus was significantly delayed at the central bus terminal in Vitoria. Baggage collection at the airport is handled by a company called AZUL Handling. This company belongs to the Ryanair group. A large group of passengers had gathered to drop off their luggage. The Azul employee, the only one, was completely overwhelmed. He seems to have no training or experience. The same picture emerges at the security gate, no belt, every passenger has to carry plastic boxes to the scanner. The security employee at the scanner seems completely overworked. The personnel at the scanner are not changed in accordance with security regulations. This is highly worrying! The team seems to be completely overwhelmed with the number of passengers for a fully booked Ryanair flight. In future, I will rely on efficient airports such as those in Bilbao or Pamplona.

Antonio D — Google review
Zero information on plane delays. We know it is delayed because it has not left from the incoming airport jet. Extremely bad customer service, besides having to pit up with the delay and its consequences for us, no information at all, it seems customers do not even have the right to information on a deteriorated service they have paid for. Appalling.

Santander Airport

Airport
Seve Ballesteros-Santander Airport is a stress-free and efficient airport located in Cantabria, between the major cities of Bilbao and Santander. Despite its small size, it offers easy navigation, quick security checks, and convenient access to departure gates. The car rental desks are easily accessible, and there are limited but sufficient shops and cafes to keep travelers content. The airport provides clean facilities and a small duty-free area.
The Seve ballesteros is not a big international airport compared to that of Madrid but it is lovely, neat and has all amenities .You have shops, eateries, car hire services and you can get taxis and buses easily there.

Actually a small provincial airport that is neat tidy and very clean. Staff very good. Security fast and efficient even if its dated. Travelling for the europa league final so even under pressure the airport was excellent
Jason J — Google review
This is a medium-sized international airport serving as the main gateway to northern Spain. Opened in 1953 and converted to civilian use in 1977, it was renamed in 2015 in honor of Spanish golf legend Severiano "Seve" Ballesteros. Located about 5 km south of Santander, the airport is accessible by E21 city bus to Gipuzkoa Square in roughly 30 minutes. It connects the region with major European destinations such as Madrid, London, and the Mediterranean, and experiences its highest traffic from June to September, driven by beach and pilgrimage tourism.

Great for flying places, showing your passport to the border police, removing your computer from its bag and watching bored security guys look at what's in your bag. If you like all of these things, it's highly recommended.
Sean M — Google review
Great little airport. Highly recommended. Short queue for Ryanair bag drop, but no queue at all Security check and found it had efficient passport control on arrival. Easy to get to, the hire car’s are right outside (we used sixt and they were very good, none of the common concerns) Only downside was the food choices when through security, very poor in choice and quality and pricey too. Would recommend eating before you get here (not a fan of McDonald’s and would avoid normally, but 5 mins before you reach the airport. Wish I’d gone there instead!)
Tim B — Google review
Small and clean. Very quick to get through but we are here in October! There is one cafe before security and one after.

Surprise! Airport is closing for the night… So if you are with the kid (7years old) - you have to sleep on the street. Police is no help. No chance .. welcome What more. I talked with the police, I was hoping they will help us to solve this problem and protect us. Tge police was upset that I involved them. tge responce was: your safety is your responsibility. They leave us their phone in case something bad happens.

Cute little airport, there's a shop and a cafe inside, past security. Check in and security went very quick. If your flight is from gates 6 or 7, be aware that there's nothing up there (no shops or vending machines) and you can't go back downstairs. There's also very limited seating upstairs. WiFi was good and there are quite a few sockets dotted around the place.

Bilbao Airport

International airport
Airport
Bilbao Airport, also known as Loiu Airport, serves as a modern transport hub with a terminal designed by Santiago Calatrava and offers convenient bus links to the city center. Despite not being the capital of the Basque Country, Bilbao is an important cultural and commercial hub. The airport is approximately 100 kilometers away from San Sebastian, which has a domestic airport with connections to Madrid and Barcelona. Travelers arriving from abroad often choose Bilbao International as their point of entry.
Honestly a pretty good airport! Easily accessible by public transportation (bus) running regularly into the city. Small enough to be pretty easy with security and such, not too busy. And a surprising amount of places to eat. Moreover at the time of writing (2025) it generally feels like most of the airport is either relatively new or in generally good condition.
Tom S — Google review
Nice airport with plenty of food/drink options before and after security. Bright and airy with views over the runway. The flight was delayed (no fault of the airport) and it was a pleasant enough place to spend a few extra hours. At times it was difficult to find spare seating that wasn't in a food outlet. Good location close to the city and cheap regular bus service into the centre. Security is very quick and efficient.
Ed C — Google review
Nice, easy in/out, convenient, everything you need and expect in an airport. Little busy when events are happening like soccer game. Little slow when events are happening especially renting a car. Can use a better AC/terminal little warm. Plan accordingly.
F. S — Google review
The Airport is easy to arrive by bus. Unfortunately most of the staff members are not able to speak english, not even a little bit.... We had business flight tickets and were searching for the business lane. We asked politely even used google translator for communication in Spanish but the staff members at the security lane were very rude. So we walked the back to the Airline check in counter again to ask for help and there we've got the information no business lanes do even exist here at the airport! Why the staff members haven't been able to answer this simple question???? Well... we had to wait at the security lane for a while, fortunately we had brought enough time with us. Later at the duty free shopping area we noticed the availability of cigarettes is rather small. They don't sell E-cigarettes only regular ones. Prices for other things are pretty the same as outside so there is no real discount, like otherwise. The business lounge is average but clean and much quieter than the rest of the airport. The airport is ok, but there are still a lot of things for improvement. 1star=bad 2stars=ok 3stars=good 4stars= very good 5stars=amazing
J. D — Google review
Good airport, it’s clean. There is only one cafe at the arrival but big enough with a variety of food. Toilets were not clean at the time of my visit.
Suzan S — Google review
Bilbao Airport is a modern masterpiece that offers a seamless travel experience from start to finish. We had a really positive experience from check in to security. Everything is well signposted and clean. Food vendors are a 'stitch up'...marking up prices 3 times retail. Onward transport is directly out front straight to the regional hotspots...to Bilbao a bus costs just 4.50 euros, and a taxi is around 30 euro.
Donna M — Google review
Decent airport w short lines and pretty good food (limited options). They took forever to announce gates so everyone crowds around the monitors and then Makes a mad dash to their gate when it finally comes up.
Heather A — Google review
No one less than Santiago Calatrava designed this airport, making it undoubtedly a highlight in terms of visual elegance. However once you reach the gates the usual crowds appear and there aren’t enough seats for all those hoping to plop down. The connection to downtown Bilbao is very straightforward (Bus A3247) and it is also easy and quick to reach San Sebastian by bus.
