I'm in love with Costa Rica personally, but Colombia is on my to-go list. Quepos was where I spent the MOST relaxing day on the beach ever, with food service to my beach cabana... being in a literal jungle is just such a different experience! I stayed in manuel antonio in an Airbnb, but we were just about 5 minutes from the beach with our car.

I'm flying to Colombia tomorrow. I'll be staying 4 days in Cartagena, 4 days trekking to Lost City, 7 days in Medellin

I would go to Cartagena. I’d go to the beach, see the walled city, the fort, the India Catalina.

My bank will order any currency for me (Chase Bank) for the current exchange rate with no fee. They ask for a 1 week heads up. I'd call your bank and see what they would do/charge. Before I had Chase I used a local Financial Union. They charged me $5 and gave me the exchange rate. They also did free re- exchanges when I returned. That was super helpful when I needed multiple currencies. I NEVER exchange at the airport, it's a huge ripoff.

Colombian food isn't really spicy. Or with much cheese. Go to Guatape if you're near Medellin. Medellin itself is awesome, but to be honest the food wasn't my favorite part. Not bad, just not overly amazing.

Medellin is beautiful; Bogota is fantastic ~ has a great night life and cute little “suburbs” to visit; Cartagena is historic and a great place to hop over to an island. Colombia is gorgeous and has so much to offer! As you plan, I would also check out Parque Tayrona (breathtaking!) and San Gil (a great little adventure town!). Enjoy!

I've traveled to Belize alone and it was great. I always recommend it as a perfect jumping-off point for women who are new to travelling solo.
