Not sure if this is a thing but I saw someone post that they got a rental from a car dealership. Maybe something similar available in Australia...i think this may of been in the USA

I wish I was stuck in Australia lol a trip to Cairns should definitely help cheer you up.
If I were you I would go to Port Douglas. It is absolutelt beautiful there and you can take a trip out to see the Great barrier reef.
