Alcala De Henares

Alcalá de Henares is a city in central Spain, northeast of Madrid. It’s known for the University of Alcalá, which occupies 16th-century buildings in the old town. These include the Paraninfo, a hall with an intricately patterned Mudejar ceiling, where the King of Spain presents the annual Cervantes literary prize. Nearby, the Cervantes Birthplace Museum is the former home of the celebrated author of “Don Quixote.”

So nice to see his house in such a preserved state, and to have a glimpse into his way of life, and life in that era in general. Most of all it’s located in the old part of Alcalá which is completely worth visiting due to its rich history and heritage. And entrance is free.
Free entry into a walk through the early life of a famous Spanish writer. A look back at a age past gone.
Definitely worth stopping in to learn about one of Spain’s greatest writers, Miguel de Cervantes. The staff was knowledgeable, and the house was thoughtfully arranged and well presented.
Free yes free. Self guided tour of the home of the author of Man of La Mancha. The street it’s located on is loaded with little shops and cafes. It not a heavy tourist area so the crowds were manageable It’s worth coming here for a visit
Amazing to visit a house so old that raised Cervantes! Very well preserved and organised! Free entrance! And there are statues of Don Quixote and Sancho in front of the house! Loved it!
Must see for Cervantes fans! His birthplace and family home. Nicely maintained. Furnished in the style of the 16th century. Entrance was free.
Although the museum is not that big, it’s nice to see the birth place of the most famous Spanish writer, Miguel de Cervantes. It’s also very interesting to see what the place used to look like from the exhibits. If you are in the area, it’s definitely worth visiting.
In center of Alcalá you can find the Cervantes Birthplace house and museum. The entrance is free and you can learn and see how was the lifestyle at that time. Very interesting and a mandatory visit in Alcalá.

Great street with amazing atmosphere.
Beautiful pedestrian street with a lot of cafes and restaurants. It was pleasure for us walking on it.
It is a commercial street lined with arcade buildings on both sides. It was a commercial street even in the Middle Ages. It originated from the city's ancient Jewish aljama, around the 12th century. It is a pedestrian-only street.
Good place to walk, to take some pictures, to visit Cervantes' house and to drink and eat.. 😉

I don't know why they don't keep something so clean and worth seeing. (Original) Calle muy bonita de Alcalá de Henares, se agradece pasear por calles así, lo que da pena es lo sucia que está, incluso llegando a oler mal en alguna esquina, no sé cómo no mantienen algo así limpio y digno de ver.

Great experience to enjoy the campus while visiting Alcala😎
This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site university town. Not the grandest of world heritage sites but very historic. It was founded by Cardinal Jiménez de Cisneros in the early 16th century. Alcalá de Henares was the world's first planned university city. Not to be confused with being the oldest as this goes to Bologna in Italy. It has some pleasant historic buildings, a neat plaza and is well worth a visit as it’s a nice town. Just don’t expect an Oxford or Sorbonne.
The university offers guided tours mostly in Spanish, but there is one tour in English at 14.00. It is worth checking in advance if the times change. There is an office just at the main entrance.
The University of Alcalá is a prestigious institution located in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. It has a rich history dating back to 1293 and is known for its contributions to literature, science, and culture. The university's campus is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
A prestigious building full of history, fully recommend visiting.
Great experience learning in the second oldest university in Spain. Beautiful campus. There are tons of international students here as well.
The tour is worth it. The guide was really nice and the information is interesting. Beautiful place.
Not a student, however wonderful exterior architecture. Worth a half day trip over here.

This is a small hotel in a wonderful location. Rooms are extremely clean, and very comfortable for 1 or 2 nights. The staff were extremely helpful, helping us with our bags and dogs. They accepted our two pets without problem with no extra charge. I would definitely go back. This is a great little hotel if you don't want an impersonal chain hotel. And the location means all the main things to see in the town are within walking distance.
Very nice for food. Good price in bedrooms. Right on the center of the city. Does not have wheelchair access or elevator because is a very old place (in a very good condition). Bed condition could be improved making the mattress more comfortable.
Fantastic stay 👏 👌 👍 Anyone visiting Alcala, then I would highly recommend it
Full of students! Nice deal, one beer and you get one tapas. Food quality isn't the best but prices are fair.
Horrible service. The waiter was disrespectful. When asked about a drink the waiter was taken aback and wondered "you don't know what this is?" After failing to explain he also failed to change the drink after exclaiming "you already tried it." Won't be returning.
Open most of the day. Only two euro to go to the top of the tower. No English speaking staff but it is a very straightforward Church. There are audio guides available. Daily mass at 10:00 am and 7:30 pm. 1:00 pm mass during the school year. The body of San Diego de Alcala is here in the second alcove. The Statue of the patroness of Alcala is here as well, Nuestra Senora del Val.
All of the antiques in its museum are very interesting. For a pretty low price you can go up the bell tower and have a magnificent view of the town.
Was originally built in 15th C, but rebuilt after fire damage in 1939. It's called a "magisterial" cathedral because its clerics were all masters, ie graduate teachers of the university. One of only two in the world! The other is San Pedro de Lovaina. Contains the Cripta de los Santos Niños a reliquary dedicated to two children (Saints Justo and Pastor) who were supposedly executed in 304 for their Christian faith under emperor Diocletian. The original temple dates back to 414.

A great museum to visit, with much information on the archeological past of the area. Admission is free, and the exhibit is very well explained and is quite thorough. I originally thought the place was geared towards kids but it isn't so. There are many Roman mosaics on display and they had a special exhibit on dinosaurs when I visited. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it if you want to learn about the region between the Paleo era and today.
Such a beautiful display of local anthropological finds! Wide range from tools and jewelry to giant mosaics and paleontological artifacts. The entry is free and the staff was very helpful. You’re given a map and it’s very difficult to get lost :) highly recommended!
Super interesting museum, with not as big exhibition but will well picked pieces so worth seeing. The building in which is the museum is so pretty by itself. Free entrance, and I was there on Saturday -no crowd . Super friendly staff as well.
Very interesting, especially for those who enjoy this kind of topic. We didn’t expect it at all — the process is so well organized that there are no queues, and you don’t waste time waiting. Highly recommend!
Very nice antropo-zoolo museum,a lot of pieces of History from different periods and A Dragon's expo with Dinosaurs🦖 remains. Free if charge it was . ps Versus the Museum is a Church/Monastery with Amazing 🎨.
Stumbled upon on accident and it was lovely. For non Spanish readers, make sure you have your phone fully charged for your translation app. Well planned layout and we all learned quite a bit!
One of three archaeological museums in the area. On itself a trip throughout the ages, from Prehistory till the late 17th Century. The Renaissance building that contains it, with its frescoes in the domes, is a work of art on its own right. It offers didactic activities for children and adults alike, and truly remarkable temporary exhibitions in its patio every now and then.
Great regional museum it had a temporary exposition "La colina de los Tigres Dientes de Sable". We took the guided tour the woman was really good explaining to kids.
