A fantastic day out!! Our journey lasted about two hours and we had an amazing fish n chip lunch as part of our package. We travelled through beautiful countryside in a lovingly restored carriage behind a wonderful steam engine. There was lots more to do at Sheffield Park station including a cracking museum, the Steam Works with engines on display and loads of interactive stuff as well as a really good gift and model shop and a pub and coffee shop! A really great day out for all the family!
We had a all day rider from a virgin experience and it was a brilliant day out. Just sit back and imagine yourself in the days gone by when steam locomotives were everywhere. The amount of work that has gone into the restoration of the trains and stations is unbelievable. Everything has been built, designed and styled perfectly. Even the staff were dressed in immaculate period clothing. The trains looked great and sounded great. We went from Sheffield park to east Grinstead and went to town for lunch. On the way back you can get off at all the stations and explore the stations, picnic areas, museums and buildings. Sheffield park seems to be the main one and had a lovely museum. The day is what you make it. If you just want the ride the fine but if you explore a bit further then you will discover so much history. The pulling coaches looked so stylish. Halloween and Xmas events are in the diary.
My Partner treated me to this most amazing birthday surprise. I have to say from the moment we arrived at the Bessemer Arms we were greeted by the staff, who were all dressed in their black & white tuxedo very smart. So friendly, polite, professional & very hard working. Serving Prosecco & Canapés in the pub to begin. Followed by heading outside to the steam train were we took photos. Then it was all aboard & I have to say, I was taken aback by it all the carriages were absolutely stunning, from dark wood, brass coat hooks & handles that's without the most comfortable seats. Dinner was also served by the same staff in the Bessemer Arms. I totally enjoyed our roast beef meal & dessert 5* fine dinning. Not forgetting the train driver of course. However most of all if you are looking for something special for a loved this is it, highly recommend. My partner also booked added extras nice bottle of their own wine, a golden arrow pen & beautiful card.
We did the Fish & Chips Train Ride last night and it was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived at Sheffield Park Station, the atmosphere was full of charm: beautiful vintage carriages, friendly volunteers and the lovely smell of steam in the air. The ride itself was peaceful and scenic, with gorgeous views of the Sussex countryside. The fish and chips were hot, crispy and really hit the spot. We also enjoyed a sweet treat and tea afterwards, all served at our table while the train gently rocked along the tracks. The whole experience felt relaxed, well-organized and really special. A perfect mix of nostalgia, good food and great company. I highly recommend this event for a unique evening out. 🚂🍽️✨
Lovely afternoon steaming through the beautiful countryside and enjoying autumn and its rainbows. Helpful and knowledgeable staff, all volunteers. Had lovely toasted fruit loaf and latte at the converted railway carriage in East Grinstead, again, friendly staff. All ages represented and they need more volunteers. Most places dog-friendly including the train ride.
It's a great experience, the locomotives, carriages, stations and even the staff uniforms make you feel like you are in another time They have a great museum and many locomotives that you can get inside at Sheffield Park Station. Lovely activity for children and adults.
Visited The Bluebell Railway for the Ghost Train Event. Loved it. Very spectacular with amazing visual and sound effects. The actors were brilliant. If you're thinking about going, just go, you'll have an amazing time.
Three of us visited on Saturday 12th of September, 2025 for a lovely train ride and high tea in the afternoon. It was a really good journey, the staff were very attentive and friendly and made us feel welcome. A+++

Absolutely beautiful camping spot!! We stayed 3 nights with family and all agreed it was one of the best camping stays we've ever had. Such helpful staff from the checking in, wood burner guidance, the icecream girls. All Absolutely spot on. There were 2 toilet blocks, one of them being brand new and always very clean. Great nature trail on site, plenty of animals around, and my kids are already missing the loose chickens 🐔 😀 We almost made it to the vineyard next door but decided to head to the beach instead as the weather was so nice. Can't wait to go back!
Lovely setting and parking was easy with several disabled parking bays. We had a coffee and a BLT for a late lunch. The service was slow, only seemed to be one member of staff. The coffee was on the cold side so we drank it quickly. The BLT at £9 was also disappointing there was no choice of bread offered. When it arrived the bread was white shop bought bread. With a name such as Butlers pantry, we would have at least expected a choice of white or brown and at least a sliced Bloomer that at least looked a bit more home made. The fillings were good but the presentation was let down by the poor choice of bread. Beginning of the season and the decking and unplanted planters looked tired and unloved. With a few minor tweeks, freshen up the decking and outside of the barn with a bit of stain. If you’re going to have planters, they are only a good addition if you have them planted and cared for. Other wise remove them and make the most of your space. Latchett’s dairy the gelato was delightful and well worth a trip out, it is worth noting they do not accept cash, card & mobile payments only.
Campsite large field but was fairly empty midweek in August. Toilets: no mirrors handdrier doesn't work. Lights over wash up area don't work. Toilet blocked for two days. Dogs should be on lead but when we complained about a labradorite roaming free were told "it's OK he belongs to farmworker" it's NOT ok dog came into tent licked our food and knocked our 5 Yr old with cerebral palsy over. Activities for children expensive , £80 a day for 30 mins on golf 40 mins in play barn, 45 mins on bouncing inflatables. Neither of two coin operated excavator ride ons worked. Ice cream good but long queues and pricey. Didn't use water slide. No evening food (apparently there's pizza Friday nights. Gave impression they are interested in taking money but not providing decent service.
Lovely spot that can get very busy, there is however quite a lot of parking but we have been when it's almost full ! There are several things to do including a woodland walk with points of interest marked on a map you are given when you pay. The walk is undoubtedly best at Bluebell time in April, it is approximately a mile in length but beware if it undulating and if it has been wet as it can be slippery and boggy. There is also a play barn with inflatables /soft play area for younger children, climbing frame, miniature golf, frisbee golf and a small free play area with slide etc. There are of course charges for the main walk and events at varying costs. There are Albino and ordinary Wallabies in a large enclosure to be seen on the woodland walk. Chicken wander around and Rooster may try and steal your food! There is a rather nice Cafe /bar and a Gelato shop in a separate building. I can recommend the toasted cibatta belly pork roll with stuffing and apple puree, cost 9.50 and pot of tea 2.50. The staff are faultless ! Later in the year, I believe there may be a maize maze, sunflower maze. Quite a variety for the children to see and plenty of activity to wear them out! Probably not the most disability friendly place though due to the nature of the wild steeply undulating woodland paths.
We camped here in the family camping field for the weekend. It is a lovely area and the pitches are well spaced out. The facilities are basic but clean. There is lots to do on the site, crazy golf, maize maze etc but unfortunately these are at extra costs which we didn't realise before arriving and these things are quite costly, especially with a group of 6 people. The only thing included with the camping is the bluebell walk which was nice (even out of bluebell session) and the wallabiesare soooo cute. It would have been great if campers got a discount on the extras. The kids loved having the chicken wondering free and the ice creams. Service was slow at the pantry and all the staff we encountered seemed unsure about everything. Unfortunately on the Saturday night there was loud music playing until about 4.30am. We don't believe this was coming from the site but it was very loud so probably local which puts me off wanting to return.
Parking free, but you have to pay for everything else individually & some of it is very expensive. Children enjoyed the play barn & wanted to go on the nature trail & in the Maze but they would have cost to much money. Found the crazy golf to long. Redeeming feature was the ice cream shop which was very nice. Won't go back.
Came here for a few hours as we were staying at a nearby campsite. A nice restaurant, sells cream tea/high tea and a selection of lunches, very well priced! You have to pay for the nature trail so we didn't end up doing it. We played frisbee golf for £9 each which was a fun activity! Nice ice-cream shop but very busy. A nice place to visit :)
Great campsite with lots of activities for the kids including mini golf, nature trail, soft play and ice cream parlour and cafe , even a beer garden in the summer! Animals roaming around including chickens, ducks, doves and some (fenced in) Wallabies!! Decent new shower and toilet block with good washing up facilities for campers. Tents, Campers, RVs all welcome here. Plenty of spaces between camping pitches and good place for groups to camp together too as pitches are well spaced. Camp fires allowed in raised fire pits. Will definitely be back!

One word - ✨MAGIC✨ We have been back a couple times since our stay in November 2023. Where I was so lucky to spend my 40th birthday. We went back again on the rainy mother's day this year too! We visited on a glorious day, on a whim and had the best morning. I took my mum for the first time, she was just in awe and felt the magic there too. I cannot more highly recommend it, there really are such good vibes here the coffee and cakes and play areas and absolutely every single attention to detail is so beautiful. I can't wait to go back again, thank you for filling our cups up today after an extremely stressful year as a family. I feel very lucky to have wilderness wood so nearby.
We went for a walk and hot chocolate after. The person at the cafe gave us a map and informed us of the £4 per person charge. The walk was well structured and took around 30mins with some short stops to take in the sculptures and markings on the map. You could spend a little longer meandering off the tracks and through the woods but many sections are marked private for the community. A lovely community initiative and would be fab to come back for one of their wilderness education sessions or a Sunday pizza.
We went there spontaneously and a bit late but still we had an hour walk, my kids (school age and toddler) loved it, they walked, run, we played hide and seek and there so many things to do. Beautiful forest and owners are so creative and look after it well. Definitely will be back again!
A really lovely woods. Luckily we had beautiful weather for a few hours here. I took my dog and two children here. My dog was on and off the lead, I put him on the lead when around others, just to be safe. But everyone who we came across was friendly and wanted to say hello. My kids played with other kids. It's a nice walk, nice little areas for kids to play and explore.
What an amazing place!!! We had such a fun weekend at Wilderness Wood! From the amazing grounds— with so much to explore and swing on, jump off, look at or peek through— through to the brilliant facilities — wood fired woodland showers, decent toilets and wash blocks — and also the great communal areas: the cool house, where we cooked a great meal for 40 people, as well as the conveniently located kids play area right next door. There’s also a great cafe with cakes, coffee, teas, cold drinks and some alcoholic drinks (in the evening). Would highly recommend this place and the team who were so helpful and friendly!
Wilderness Wood is a forest destination for coffee & a cake, a walk in the woods or to purchase. Logs, kindling & sawdust for pets etc. it is welcoming and reasonably priced. The homemade date slice was great. Very relaxing place to go with woodland tearoom.
I've photographed a few awesome weddings at Wilderness Wood, and it's just the most perfect wedding venue - and one of the few places you can legally get married in the woods! Top tip - have a live band and fire pit in the evening followed by a silent disco under the festoon lights! Also, get on the big swing for fun photos!
Wilderness woods is amazing for kids there are interactive stations throughout the woods. Places to explore and things to see. Highly recommended.

Rode the Santa Christmas train this afternoon with family including grandchildren aged 3 and 5 years. We all loved it. Staff were very friendly, the station and trains looked so festive too. Santa was great, spending ages speaking with each of the families. Gifts for the children were very thoughtful and great quality, no plastic tat! Mrs Claus and all the elves were fab, thank you for a brilliant afternoon!
A great little railway, which has been preserved really well, you can also have a go in the signal box. Plenty for little ones to do with Riley's miniature railway and the wooden train sets for them to play with. Also a great tea room to have some food in. Yes there are bigger railways around but it adds to the uniqueness of being a small line. If you get a rover ticket then you can do as many trips as you want up and down the line.
Heritage railway based at Isfield in East Sussex. The line runs for a mile to Worth Halt and back. There is some nice countryside to see along the way and it's possible to alight at Worth Halt and use the picnic tables and enjoy the peace or you can walk back to Isfield. When trains are running the service is frequent so if you just picnic, you won't have to wait to long for your return trip. Please note there are no facilities at Worth Halt. At Isfield there is a cafe. Prices are reasonable,I would definitely recommend a slice of cake! You can also visit their signal box and imagine how it all worked, I spoke to one of the volunteers who explained everything to me and told me some if the history of the line which once ran much further. The station is set back in time with old signage,a wheelbarrow loaded with cases,an old platform ticket machine ( price 1D ) and scales that probably weighed cases it parcels. You can see some rolling stock including a lovely old brake van. On the day of my visit they were running a class 73 loco in diesel mode and a class 101 trailer coach to carry passengers. They do operate a steam locomotive on other days and also run a Hastings DEMU " Thumper" . They have a stored class 421 CIG unit that last run on the Lymington branch, it was the last of the old " slam door " units to run on the southern region. I believe the plan is for it to be restored and to be pulled by the class 73. There is also a miniature railway there which you can ride for just £1, kids will surely love it! I found everyone there very friendly,it had a family feeling to it, husband working in the shop/ticket office and his wife in the cafe etc. Parking at Isfield is free, there is no parking at Worth Halt. There are toilet facilities at Isfield. For train running days check out their Facebook page or their website. I made an enquiry and they were prompt in responding to me.
Lovely little railway but seems to be suffering from lack of volunteers. The cafe had a perfect opportunity to do proper breakfast but says they can't get a chef! The railway itself is not very long but still enjoyable. Mainly diesel engines running. Worth a visit. Could be better with a bit of effort. We went there for a classic car show which was great.
Fantastic little railway line. Very reasonable fare to go on the train. Staff very informative. My children really enjoyed the miniature railway that's also there. Definitely be visiting again.
What a great day out really had a lovely day. Kids throughly enjoyed it. Very reasonable. The train ticket for the whole family was about £35 family of 5 It didn’t go that far probably a mile there a mile back but it was nice to go on a slam door train. Last time I went on one of these was on the way to school about 25 years ago!! Most people who work there are volunteers There is a beautiful pub just outside the station I didn’t have time to go in but it looked lovely. We went there as there was a car show on. Gorgeous little village and a nice drive through the country side to get to it. Highly recommend
Genuinely a great little station. Perfect for a fun little journey on its own, or as part of a day out. It is a beautiful journey, just long enough to engage and excite a little one, but not so long they lose interest. The staff are wonderful. Everyone is friendly and enthusiastic. There's a car park, a shop, play area, signal box, cafe as well as the trains!! The village is also right there, with a pub and the wonderful county side waiting for you to explore.
Open Sundays. Short ride on restored diesel trains. Seats in the carriages have been recovered and look fab. 2 platforms, a gift shop and a station buffet complete the setup. We didn't eat here but the food did look good. Rileys miniture railway runs alongside platform 2 and you can also have a short ride astride one of the trains

We had a wonderful time at Bluebell Vineyard. It’s a peaceful place with beautiful views. We tried a rosé wine and a vintage sparkling wine, and both were amazing. It was a great day out in nature, and the wines made it even better. Cheers to Bluebell Vineyard for such a lovely experience! 🍷🌳
We visited today and had an amazing time. This was a wedding anniversary present from my husband and it did not disappoint. We got there early and spent time out on the terrace playing with the resident Lab, Bertie who loves playing ball! Howard, our host was fabulous. Aside from being very knowledgeable about all things wine and Bluebell, he was extremely personable and made sure everyone in the group (14 in total) were ok and enjoying the experience. I’m not a huge cheese lover, however, I enjoyed the fantastic cheese pairings that came with the wines. Howard poured generously, didn’t rush anyone whatsoever and kept the whole group engaged throughout. We stayed for another drink afterwards and were very sorry we had precooked our taxi to collect us when he did. We’ve done 3 vineyards in the UK, this is by far my favourite and I hope to one day come back to visit. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
We visited Bluebell Vineyard on Wednesday 12th August in the morning. I’d seen online we were able to do a self guided tour of the estate and it was beautiful. Walking through the vines was lovely and the woodland was very pretty. We were the only visitors on site at the time and we were very fortunate to be able to have a private tasting with Alex. Alex was so friendly and took so much time with us to introduce us to English Sparking wine. So kind to give us a tasting on a day when there aren’t public tastings especially whilst manning the phone! She told us so much about the process of wine making, how to tell if wine is off (happily there was an oxidised bottle to compare with) and answered lots of questions. She even showed us the goats! It was such a great experience it felt like we were with an old friend by the end! We came away with a number of bottles and a wealth of knowledge about wine from our lovely host, a really enjoyable experience (she is right - the ruby sparkling tastes just like alcoholic Ribena!) please pass on our thanks to Alex for her hospitality, she could not have done more for us! Bluebell Vineyard is well worth a visit just for a walk of the vineyard but if you can definitely do a tasting (or just buy the Ruby Sparkling!) would like to do a tour next time we are back in Sussex. Unable to respond to your response Bluebell Team - please feel free to use on your website etc. :)
We came to the bluebell vineyard as a surprise for my partner’s birthday. It completely exceeded our expectations, mainly down to Keith, a wine expert and guide who took us around. The most interesting wine tour we’ve had (and we’ve done a few!) with fun facts thrown in! Keith is an asset to the Bluebell vineyard and we are incredibly grateful to him for making our trip extra special and one to remember. Aside from the tour, the wine tastes fantastic and we have bought a few bottles to take with us. Kevin (the winemaker) joined us for a glass at the end of the tasting- it was wonderful to meet the man behind such skilfully produced wine. Thank you for making it such a memorable day out for us! Sophie & Adam
It is always an enriching experience to visit a vineyard. English wines and sparkling are quite young, to my humble opinion the main issue is that smell does not meet the taste which leads to disappointment in most of the cases. A beautiful place to visit though. The wine I like the most: the hind leap rose.
We had a brilliant time doing the tour with Keith, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. The wine was delicious and the cheese pairings are great. Best wine tasting I've ever done, despite the wet weather!
We decided to do a self guided tour as there were no tours avaliable on the date that we wanted. We did a 40 minute tour which was lovely with beautiful scenery. We returned to the shop to buy some wine and were offered a glass of wine or wine tasting a very reasonable amount. We opted for wine tasting. Alex spent time to give us a lot of useful information about the wines avaliable at Bluebell and also other British wines and she was very complimentary about competitors which was refreshing. It was a great way to spend half an hour and the wines we tasted were lovely. We will definitely be returning to Bluebell to see the fruit on the vines and to gain more wine knowledge.
Great wine tasting experience - make it a day out by arriving early, enjoy a walk around the vines on your own followed by a tour and wine tasting and then try a long walk around - again. Get a few bottles (and cheese to go with it) before leaving - you will not easily find these elsewhere.
