Here are some recommended trails around the Bernina Pass area offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, glaciers, and alpine lakes: 1. Bernina Pass to Alp Grüm - Starting Point: Bernina Pass (Ospizio Bernina) - Distance: 6 km one way - Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours - Difficulty: Moderate This trail takes you from the Bernina Pass down to Alp Grüm, offering magnificent views of the Palü Glacier and the surrounding peaks. Alp Grüm is known for its beautiful setting and the historic railway station. 2. Lago Bianco Loop - Starting Point: Ospizio Bernina - Distance: 5 km round trip - Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours - Difficulty: Easy This loop trail around Lago Bianco provides stunning views of the lake, glaciers, and mountains. It's a relatively easy hike suitable for families and casual hikers. 3. Bernina Pass to Diavolezza - Starting Point: Ospizio Bernina - Distance: 8 km one way - Duration: 3 to 4 hours - Difficulty: Moderate to challenging This trail leads to the Diavolezza area, known for its breathtaking views and access to the Diavolezza cable car. Hikers can enjoy views of the Morteratsch Glacier and the peaks of the Bernina Range. 4. Bernina Pass to Morteratsch - Starting Point: Ospizio Bernina - Distance: 10 km one way - Duration: 3 to 4 hours - Difficulty: Moderate This trail descends from the pass to Morteratsch, offering beautiful views of the Morteratsch Glacier along the way. It's a scenic route that showcases the dramatic alpine landscape.
One of the most amazing experience I've had is the Bernina Express going to Ospizia Bernina. Everybody in the train is amazed how beautiful and majestically looking this place. Worth visiting. Fun fact: you can go skinny dipping in the water (during the summer obviously), near down the ospizia Bernina station. The water is cold so better bring something to dry you off later.
Magical place in winter and spring when the mountains are pristine and the lakes frozen. Just mind boggling beautiful!
Holy wow this was beautiful. Took the pass to get down to Italy and it was amazing. Just take your time driving and be cautious as there is people biking on the road and watch out for those beautiful cows on the side of the road.
Memorable journey from Tirano, IT to St. Moritz. While in Italy, ride offers mostly lush green landscape and passing through the residential building. Switzerland in wintertime is like a white blanket. Train passes through 100s of small and large bridges and tunnels, frozen lake and spectacular view of glacier. St. Moritz offers stunning view of frozen lake and 10a of very expensive brand shopping area. Over all I would repeat it in summer time to witness different beauty of Switzerland
Very scenic route
A great ride by train or car. It's open the whole year but needs sometimes maintenance because of new snow. A great trip to get from the Engading to the Pushlav or vice versa. You can do some very scenic stops or even long hikes if you like. In the winter you get the chance to ski on Diavolezza and the other areas placed around the Bernina pass.

A fantastic place to go hiking and have contact with nature, it has incredible natural formations! It's also an amazing place to explore with your family.
A hidden gem in the Swiss Alps, Gletschergarten Cavaglia offers a serene and breathtaking natural experience. Easily accessible via the Bernina Railway, it's a short walk from the train station, making it an ideal stop for nature lovers and hikers. The glacier-carved formations and impressive ‘Gletschertöpfe’ are the standout attractions, beautifully displayed for visitors to admire. The scenic valley, flowing stream, and well-indicated paths create a pleasant atmosphere, especially during the off-season, when crowds are minimal. While some guides and additional amenities may be available during peak season, this visit was quiet and self-guided. There is also an adjacent gorge worth exploring, if time allows. One minor consideration is for dog owners—some sections feature metal mesh stairs, which could be challenging for certain pets. Despite that, this spot is highly recommended for a peaceful outdoor experience with stunning geological features.
Not a place for winter. I read before going that it is still possible to visit the place during winter months on your own at your risk. However, in winter there’s nothing to do here. There’s no trail to hike. We saw only some stones. Do not come here in winter. Do not waste your time
Beautiful geological features where you can see the strength of nature and especially of one glacier and its water. The massive rocks where transported by the ice and the 'marmitas' carved by the water....absolutely incredible. The view on the Poschiavo lake and valley is also magnificent.
A unique hiking trail running through an area filled with Marmittas, deep tubes carved into the rock by glacier melt ages ago. The view of the valley from several overlooks is also quite spectacular. An interesting, sometimes exciting, ride is needed to get here unless you take the train.
Nice geological curiosity and outstanding point of view on the Valle Poschiavo in this well tended garden. The garden itself is not worth the trip to this remote location, but the Piz Palü offers many spectacular views. So, if you happen to go there, don't miss the garden.
An impressiv place where you see how the forces of the glacier worked on the mountains thousand of years ago. The entrance is free and close to the train stop Cavaglia. The wholes are well secured with fences so no issues for kids or other people falling into them;)
Small but interesting. you can even climb down into one of the glacier mills. great viewpoint with telescope looking down into the Poschiavo valley. will expand in the future, I think. run by volunteers. has a small kiosk onsite.

Amazing autumn view! I would come again!
Saoseo Lake in autumn is truly spectacular—the golden larch trees reflecting on the clear turquoise water create a scene straight out of a postcard. The natural beauty and peaceful alpine surroundings are everything you hope for during foliage season. However, it’s impossible to ignore the growing issue of overtourism. During my 2025 visit, the trails and viewpoints were quite crowded, and the serene atmosphere was often interrupted by large groups and constant photo stops. In some areas, the paths felt worn down, and it was harder to find a quiet moment to enjoy the scenery. Despite this, the lake remains a breathtaking destination. I highly recommend visiting early in the morning or on weekdays to avoid the busiest times. I hope future visitors treat the area with care so that its charm and environment are preserved.
1.5 hrs hike to one of the most stunning lake in Switzerland. Crowded at weekends, and extremely limited parking facilities near main road.
Absolutely stunning alpine lake. Quite a hike, though!!! Do not rely on google maps or any navigator- it shows there is a road going almost there. True. But! It is only for allowed transport, so you have to park in the parking lot near the restaurant and hike all the way there and back (around 10km overall). So consider it when planning, especially with small kids. On our way back around 16:30 in late October we met a family with a toddler going up- explained to them, that there is no way on earth they will make it in daylight. Hopefully they turned back.
You can park in Sfazù where public parking spots are available but on a nice day on a weekend it can get pretty crowded. You can then walk up the val de camp till you reach the lake. There are plenty of signs pointing the way to the lake. When we were there the lake was frozen but with the nice weather it looked great:) There were quite some people and it seams to be a kind of an insta hot spot but there is a lot of space around the lake so even with some people around you can enjoy the beauty of the lake.
My favorite lake in the Alps near Tirano and St. Moritz: the place where I love to go when I need to relax in the fresh air of the mountains surrounded by green trees and blue sky and transparent water, with Bernina range on the background. It makes me feel the perfect connection with the world and it is just 1h30 walking from the parking (very easy walk) ❤️
Lovely, clear lake surrounded by alpine pine. Easy to access. Well worth a visit, especially in the morning, when it's not yet crowded.

Nice Mozart statue on front facade. Interesting interior but we came by on a Sunday when it was closed. Still an interesting looking building in the center of a town within 10 minute walk from Poschiavo train station along lovely cobblestone streets with pedestrians only seen basking at the local restaurant outlets that are very close by.. so the trip was not a waste for us. Until next time. Added photos to help identify the building to all and sundries who will be visiting in the future..
The facility has nice conference hall, great for various events.
Small but quaint museum, with works from German and local artists.
Nice small museum, with friendly staff
A small but important and valuable treasure, definetely worth a visit!
