My husband and I went on this tour today, our guide was Patrick. We had a great time! The mine shaft elevator is pretty tight quarters but really neat. We loved all of the demonstrations of the actual old mining equipment and learned a lot. Patrick was a lot of fun and great with the kids on the tour. We got to see a lot of informational items as well as some cool mineral formations. Would absolutely recommend.
Great tour! So glad we did it! Our tour guide Mark”? was great! He seemed genuinely excited about the history of the mine and was easy to listen to. I was hesitant about the elevator ride down after reading other reviews, but it wasn’t too bad. Tight as sardines if you are claustrophobic you should know that. Also, the ride down & back up is about 95% dark and the elevator rattles & rocks slightly. But worth the trip down/up. Very educational and the hour went by quickly.
What an adventure! The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine tour was an unforgettable experience, taking us 1000 feet underground into the heart of Colorado’s gold mining history. Our guide was fantastic—informative, funny, and super kind. He made the whole tour even better, and he even snuck us some extra gold ore along with the free pieces you get to pick from at the end! 😉 The tour itself was fascinating. You vertically descend 100 stories into the mine, ride an underground tram, and get to see gold veins in their natural state. The mining equipment demonstrations were really cool, and it gave us a great appreciation for what the miners went through back in the day. Plus, it’s only a short and easy walk underground. After the mines, I highly recommend heading into Cripple Creek town—the food there is so good, and there are tons of cute stores to shop around. It’s the perfect way to round out the day! If you’re in Cripple Creek, you have to do this tour. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to dive into Colorado’s rich mining history—plus, who doesn’t love free gold ore?!
For quick summary details, go to bottom of review. This was an absolutely outstanding tour of the mines. Not only do you get to see mines, but you get to see equipment used, and a demonstration. Also, our tour guide, Mark, was extremely great at the tour. He was making some jokes while going through the tour and just causing some laughs while explaining each part of the mines in great detail and expertise. And on top of the mines experience back at the gift shop, no pun intended, the staff were excellent, understanding, and kind. And bathrooms are very nice and clean. To any staff that see this, I appreciate your kindness and respect. Also, I suggest bringing a jacket, as it's a nice 50° F in the mines, or be like my crazy Texan mind and not even bring a jacket to Colorado! Best experience we have had in our 3 days of being in Colorado! Went on 6/7/2024 at near 1:30 and the tour began at 2:00. *QUICK READ INFO Temp: 50° F Depth: 1,000 ft Our Guide: Mark (great guide)
First tour down in to a mine. Was a great time and very informative. Well worth the price of admission and the trip just to see it. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Cripple Creek is just below the mine and your able to over look a working mine next door. Also you can start the phantom canyon road from here which will take you about 2 hours to travel.
I visited the Mollie Kathleen mine tour in May of 2023. I thought it was great, with lots of educational demonstrations and explanations as well as just really cool being in tunnels that deep underground. Heads up that the trip down is cramped, so just be prepared; though they do warn you about it ahead of time on the website. If you visit, I strongly suggest after the tour going across the street to the heritage center and seeing the scale model of the Mollie Kathleen mine; it really gives you a nice sense of scale for the tour.
What an amazing place! It is definitely worth the drive up there. Sarah - our guide - is the sweetest person, she’s so knowledgeable, professional & friendly! Don’t worry, if you’re claustrophobic, it’s not that bad. It’s a 2 min elevator ride to the bottom, and the tour down there is just outstanding. This gold mine has been operational since 1891! It’s cold up there, so keep yourself warm.
What a great time!! Tour guide was AWESOME.. bring cash to tip them, I didn’t have any and felt so bad cause he was THAT good!! I’d do it again too cause so much information I bet you Learn something new every time!! So well done !! I’d give it 10 stars if I could

Departing from an 1894 depot, this 45-minute steam-engine train ride passes historic mines.

Such an awesome experience! So much cool history on this ride! Plus, who doesn't want to ride a train with a steam engine? The other passengers were nice too. It was a fun and casual ride through the mountains. Absolutely would recommend it!
What a great little destination. We drove from Colorado Springs and it was easy and pleasant. The history of the gold rush was very interesting. We took the little train ride and what fun. We were able to talk with conductor and engineer. We have great pizza from a vendor in the parking lot. Then we went to 6 casinos! Stopped in Woodland Park for Mexican on the way back.
My family loved it! Parking has a2hr limit, which is nice. There seemed to be plenty of parking because the train left every hour or so. We quickly parked, bought our tickets and waited for about 15 min before the train arrived. In the meantime, my husband bought a sweater($40) and we got popcorn($2 box) for the kids. The train wasn't fast or slow, it was perfect for seeing the sights and the story about the area and train were pretty cool.
Our first time in cripple Creek! We went for donkey days and had a blast! We were able to pet the donkeys, see a couple of races and visit the booths along the street. The railroad was fun to visit too. Lots of cool things to see.
Fun train ride with pretty views! Trip takes about 45min. Conductor makes a few stops to give information about the history of the land & town. We had Tad, he did great & was funny!
My wife and I got here into Cripple Creek and people told us to take the train. We did just that, our guide or engineer, was remarkable at his knowledge and his humor. We learned a lot on this short train ride, took a lot of amazing pictures. When we visit again with relatives, we will be doing this train ride once more.
We loved it. Zoe and Tad were amazing guides and conductor/ engineer. We learned more about the area’s history in gold mining and got some local advice on food and other activities in the area. The kids loved it!
When you hear that it's only 4 miles, you might scoff. But this is the right 4 miles to be totally worthwhile. The views are legit and the engineer / tour guide is interesting, kind, but doesn't "talk your ear off". I recommend this to anyone. My 15 year old son was as intrigued as my wife and me. Coal-fired steam engine ride under $20? Heck yeah!

Historic Charm, Friendly Service, and Great Energy I visited Bronco Billy’s the weekend before starting my new role, and it’s clear why the property has such a loyal following. There’s a welcoming, small-town charm throughout — from the friendly team to the classic casino atmosphere. The floor was clean, the games were active, and service was genuinely personable. It’s a property with deep roots and a lot of heart. I’m excited to be part of its next chapter.
Came to Chamonix Casino for the Fall Fest. And had a great experience, how ever after driving 2 hours we were hungry. decided to eat at Bronco Billy’s restaurant because it’s connected to the Chamonix. I ordered hot wings extra crispy with the buffalo sauce on the side and they came out wet and under cooked! My fries were wiggly and had no flavor! Sorry to say but the food was terrible
Friendly staff, free cocktails while gambling, and love their restaurant Home Cafe. You can get breakfast all day and for a decent price. The service was quick the two mornings we went. The bartender was so friendly and cheerful and the wait staff were also pleasant. Definitely recommend it!
We enjoy ourselves everytime we come up. Great games and free drinks and snacks. The restaurant's are wonderful! Bronco Billy's treat's their customers with great customer service. The hotel was a little on the older side but that doesn't bother me, it adds to the experience. Very courteous and thoughtful employees. If I'm always treated like this, I'll keep coming back. :)
Tonight’s activities were cut short due to being told to cash out and leave the premises. My wife was approached by staff and told that she had been seen a couple weeks prior with a gentleman and engaging in very illegal activities and needed to leave immediately. After being forced to cash out at the cashier (instead of the kiosk) she had to walk through a few rooms to come find me. Upon finding me she explained that she was being accused of something illegal but the staff refused to explain further on the details, but they did mention that I was not the man that she was allegedly seen with. My wife tried to explain that we have only come to the casino together and that they must have her confused with someone else but at this point the staff was rude and not offering any assistance in determining what was actually going on. At this point my wife was the only one they cared about getting out of the casino, regardless of her requests for an explanation. We came to use our free play and left with a bad taste in our mouths as well as a warning not to come back to Bronco Billy’s or the chamonix for reasons that we still don’t know. It is very unfortunate that the staff felt it was acceptable to treat someone as if they were guilty without giving insight on the situation other than to act on a power trip and a bad mood especially after they just mentioned their day of work was “just another day in paradise” while exchanging pleasantries just minutes before. We have been coming to this casino duo for the past few years, but now we will make sure to tell our friends not to conduct business here in the future.
I ate at the Bronco Billy's restaurant, I waited an hour to get seated, after being seated I had to wait another 15 minutes for someone to take my order...when I received my food the sausages were burnt, my eggs were swimming in oil. This was a terrible meal. Oh I forgot when the foodservice person brought my coffee to the table she dropped coffee on the table and didn't offer to clean it up. We come to Cripple Creek every year and this was always our breakfast restaurant. We will not come back to this restaurant. Need training for the employees.
Not a bad place to gamble but they really are stingy with player points anymore. The Chamonix Hotel is superb but since I am not getting comped there I go to the Triple Crown and find it much friendlier and easier to earn points.
Biggest casino in Cripple Creek, takes up most of the Main Street, and is in construction to make it even bigger. The casino was clean and the machines were maintained. The construction made it impossible to really walk around and explore the property.

Nice place to stop and see some of the history of the area. We were really impressed with how nice the displays were and what a great view! They also have a penny crusher!
My boyfriend had a blast at this place! He loves soaking up information, and there’s so much to discover here, lol. It’s super clean and welcoming, making it a great spot to hang out for a while. Cripple Creek really is a special place! The center has an amazing view from its window, and the parking lot is huge, so there’s plenty of space. Plus, there’s an elevator and stairs, so it’s accessible for everyone!
This was a very nice stop and definitely needed before coming into downtown Cripple Creek. .There are a lot of historic museum pieces inside. Terrific views from the windows with explanations of the mountain peaks. There is a thirty minute show, which I didn't see because we were hungry and wanted to get downtown.
This is a really nice place to relax and get your bearings before heading into Cripple Creek. Three floors of history at no cost, though donations are appreciated. There are indoor bathrooms here as well. Plenty of parking with no restaurant.
I enjoy that you can travel to many, many spots here in Colorado and they have free activities for family to partake in. This is one of those places. This three story facility has a breath taking views from every parking spot and every window in the center. They have information on mining in the area, how it influenced the area and the men that pioneered the area for resources found during mining as well as dinosaur bones that were found while working the rock quarries. You can see a miniature version of the town with a toy train as well as so economic of what was found while mining the area. I dislike the very obvious void in native history and colonizers effects on them and their lives during the documented time.
I have never been to a welcoming Center like this. At the main level, you learn about the town and history. Lower level you learn about transportation. At the upper level, you learn about dinosaurs and the land. The view out the back windows are amazing
Stopped on the way to Cripple Creek. Glad we did. The center is full of interesting information about the gold rush here. 3 levels of info. Very informative girl at the desk.
The heritage center should be the starting point if you are visiting the town. They have all the information and guidance to help you enjoy your stay in Cripple creek. They have some useful information and displays to help you start your journey here. The panoramic view from the heritage center is to die for.

We have had a tradition at Christmas time for 15 years with our grandchildren to go see the Christmas melodrama. They are in their 20s now and still want to attend with us. This year was the production of the "Miracle on Mistletoe Mountain" While we always love the productions, this one may have been the best one ever. All five of us absolutely loved it! The singing was excellent, and the acting was great. The villain may have been the best portrayal of a villain I've ever seen. Plus, the theater itself is a gem
Went to the Christmas show in 2023 it was wonderful. Small quaint theater, cocktails. The play was a wonderful addition to our stay on Cripple Creek.
I saw Beehive today. It was fantastic. Everyone was very talented and the program brought back many memories of the ‘60s and ‘70 music and changes.
A truly nostalgic, fun and friendly atmosphere with crazy good entertainment that has hilarious original and "local" humor! If you are extra lucky, you will be treated to a clever and high energy olio!
This is my second time at this theater and it has not disappointed! The vampire of cripple creek was hilarious! My husband and I absolutely loved it!! The cast for Dracula was so perfect. The other show I’ve seen was also amazing! I definitely recommend coming to see a show here!!
I used to go to Heritage Square up in Morrison, CO as a kid. The place shut down snd that was super unfortunate. The Bulle Theater resembles so much of the Heritage Square theater and I'll be coming back again and again.
Excellent program and will attend another show in the future. Only disappont that was also irritating was a couple took our seats/table we had reserved for 4 and when it was brought to the workers attention who walked us to the table, didnt say anything to the people. When I said something to the couple, they wouldn't move, just scooter their chairs a little and moved table to them. So the couple that was with us had to sit behind us and we had no table which was frustrating since we paid for the table so the 4 of us could be together. Do highly recommend the theater programs.
My husband and I went to watch Ice Fest Feud and I ended up getting called onstage. I didn't plan to be onstage, but it ended up being a lot of fun! The Butte is a historic theater full of history & charm. Make sure you take time to take in a show while you're in Cripple Creek! (And don't worry, most are plays and they won't call you up onstage 😊).
