Great visit after a ramble at the beauteous White Memorial Preserves Vineyard Trail. Litchfield. Erin was a most gracious host and I so enjoyed the chilled Pink Cadillac Rose - tangy, not sweet and just what I needed after a hot ramble, but so worth walking through a vineyard (down the road from the actual winery)! There are a great selection of wines to choose from, you are sure to find one to your taste, so I highly recommend visiting the oldest CT winery!
2.4.23 The venue itself is amazing with comfy spots to sit in such as by the fireplace, the window, separate rooms if you have a larger party etc. The food items are also wonderful. As for the wine, perhaps it was the timing, but we only had 3 wines to choose from, and of the 4 of us, no one loved them. And all of our teeth got stained. Stained so badly that our tongues looked like the smurfs. We were told that they'll be buying some of the wines from Digrazia so hopefully that'll improve the quality of the wines. Because this place is really quite the gem. I wish them luck. And I hope next time the wine won't stain. Thanks
Great afternoon here! Just outside of the town center and down the road from some great hiking trails. The wine flights are any selection of 4 for $15. They also have some nice cheese plates to share. The seating on the upper deck gives a great view of the vineyard. There is a little store inside that has all the wines for sale, as well as some local products and wine accessories. Went around 1:30pm and had no problem getting a table for four.
My friend and I stopped in here after visiting the wonderful cowboy museum down the road. We split a bottle of the Pink Cadillac rose and the charcuterie board. We enjoyed both very much. Justin, one of the new owners, served us and told us the entire place had been renovated and the grape harvest increased under the new ownership. I had visited here a number of years ago and the place did look quite different. Still have my glass from the previous visit! Looks like a nice place to host events.
I stopped in here with two others on a Monday afternoon after visiting the area. We were excited to see it was open on a Monday and also that it wasn't very crowded. The inside is so cute and it smells amazing inside. The fires going and the wood floors make this place charming and cozy feeling. They had a lot of white wines and then quite a few wine cocktails on the menu which was different. They only had 1 red unfortunately and I would say it was alright. They also had a great sounding charcuterie platter with local meat and cheeses. Overall it was cute, I'd recommend a stop in especially if you like white wine.
The first thing we noticed when we arrived was just how deserted this winery was at 5 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. There were three cars in the parking lot, two of which were employees'. The lobby wasn't much better, housing little more than an empty deli case and aging armchair. We didn't see a soul until we got to the bar area on the second floor, and only one other couple came in afterwards. The workers were friendly enough, and knew enough about the vineyard's offerings to serve us quickly. The service at times seemed too brisk; particularly when we ordered a cheese tasting and the server did little more than rattle off the names of the offerings before scurrying back behind the bar. The wine itself was 'meh.' The two of us shared two bottles: the Riesling and the Strawberry Bliss. I'm no connoisseur, but I enjoyed the Riesling well enough. The Strawberry Bliss, on the other hand, was simply Riesling with strawberry flavoring added - and that's according to the bottle. It wasn't bad by any means, but was a little disappointing to see at a winery - no less one that claims to be Connecticut's oldest. Aside from being sparsely populated, the winery itself is pleasant. Traditional wine making equipment decorates the front lawn, which is nicely complimented by a tree-lined walkway to the front door. You can see the grape vines on the side of the main building as soon as you pull in, and the rear terrace offers views of the rest. The owners clearly don't fancy themselves a big tourist trap - farming equipment is plainly scattered around the grounds, and the vineyard has more of an agricultural atmosphere than that of a tasting room. All-in-all I think this vineyard can best be described as 'nice enough.' Everything is of enough quality to be enjoyable, but nothing will blow you away and there are some pretty glaring flaws. It was a nice place to stumble on after a hike nearby, but certainly nothing to make a trip for.
The Winter fest is a great time. This vineyard also has great wine to taste and buy but during the winter fest it is combined with good food and people that are sociable and fun. If you have the time it is definitely one of the best vineyards that I have ever been to. And I have been to over 50!!
Nice classic tasting room in a restored barn. Beautiful views of the grape fields and tasty wine! Live music during our visit as well. 4 stars only because our glasses were dusty and that’s important in my book!

I have purchased products from White Flower Farm for many years and have consistently been impressed by their products. I had no gardening experience when I started and used their catalog and website to choose products and have always gotten a lot of compliments on my yard. I have purchased bulbs, perennials, annuals, shrubs, roots, everything-- and it arrives intact, has grown very well and looked beautiful. I get many compliments and look like a gardening pro when I am definitely not. The times their plants have not grown well have been my error. I wanted something that definitely was never going to work, their information was clear about where the flowers would thrive and where they would not, and I ignored them and wanted to try it anyway. Needless to say, white flower farm has given me years of gardening joy and for that I am very grateful.
Love the amaryllis. And the service. I even had the one from last year come back. When the leaves died back I stuck it in the basement for several weeks. I figured it was a long shot but I would give it a try. And it worked. So when I ordered a new one I decided to get two stakes. When the I only one stake was delivered I simply emailed costumer service and they acknowledged the miss pick and got the second stake out the next day.
I order 6 plants. 3 salvia. 3 fuchsia Received an email I was being refunded my money minus 30 dollars for shipping Ups sent it back for wrong address which is my correct address. Ups is at my house almost every day So they re ship the order. Only I get one saliva and one fuchsia plant for $44 dollars This is not a good way to do business or keep customers. I have been in business forever and I would make sure my customer is happy Very disappointing that you have bad customer service for a company I thought was supposed to be excellent
I've been a customer for years, buying many gifts for others as well as the potted annual collections each year for myself. However, when I called to check on my order, I was very unhappy with the dismissive attitude of the customer service person. Additionally, I'm not happy with the way my questions were addressed. I simply wanted to know when my order would ship since there's a delay in part of my order shipment. It certainly could have been handled in a nicer fashion. It will be my last purchase and I will no longer recommend White Flower Farms to my friends or family.
My son ordered a plant and pot for me for Christmas on 12/15/19. It is now 1/14/20 and still no plant. This plant was advertised as ready for Christmas delivery. No communication from White Flower Farm. Only by calling have I gotten any information although no one has been able to say why the plant and pot have not been shipped. I am a long time customer, both in person at the garden and online. This is very disappointing service and will make me think carefully before I use them again. I’m editing this review. White Flower Farm got the plant to me and after apologizing, refunded the cost. I appreciate the change and am glad I will feel comfortable shopping there again
Great quality and service. Recently ordered paper white bulbs and 2 were duds. Contacted customer service and they immediately offered a full replacement order.
If they can make me a better Gardener, they can make anyone.
Every year I receive as a gift from a relative a Christmas amarylis from White Flower Farms. They have gorgeous iridescent petals. They are much more spectacular than grocery store ones. I cant begin to describe how delightful they are in the window with dreary winter outside. White Flower Farms sells the rockstars of Amarylis.

This was my first time here and I was a bit short on time so I had stopped in the museum and went on the "marsh trail". The museum is very nicely set up especially for children, to feel like you are on an adventure as you move through. Very thoughtful exhibits. The boardwalk along the "marsh trail" is amazing, there was a great deal of work that was put into it. I'm looking forward to going back and spending more time there.
Beautiful setting / view's in the forest. Gravel parking lot, with a few port-o-potty's here -n- there. There's a museum & the property is dog friendly with many picnic tables near the parking lot, along the fields & around the pond. Loads of wildlife life with over 40 miles (4000 acres) of clear-cut well maintained sprawling trails with wooden boardwalks through the forest.
This is a great low-key lake trail and conservation scene. I didn't get to sample the full lake trail loop but this was a good pop in on the return trip from New York before Hartford, breaking up the long miles with movement and environmental sensory grounding.
Excellent hiking trails. Large park with multiple trail entrances. Most of not all have parking and all the trails are well maintained. Great place to bring kids and dogs. Biking trails available. Wonderful views all around.
Met up with friends and had a great time! We were nervous with young kids (19 months - 7 yrs old) and what to expect, but it was perfect for them without being too overwhelming for the parents to handle. Delightful surprises throughout including the beehive and gem cave. A nice little trip for all ages and of course very reasonable priced entry while also knowing you are supporting a wonderful local cause! The museum also includes a small play area for kids with books, puzzles, and more and the grounds outside include picnic tables, a pond, and connects to the WM trails. Plenty of space for kids to run around outside while parents can easily keep an eye on them. Will absolutely be bringing the kiddos back!
A day well spent! The Little Pond Trail is so unique. I personally wouldn’t recommend small children unless you carry them. We then visited the museum and enjoyed it. Lots to see & interact with, many facts to learn, & the displays are amazing! There’s a cute gift shop too! Note: For bathrooms, there is an outhouse. No public restrooms in the museum.
Nice trails...fine location...able to rent the carriage house for our event.
There are so many trails here, what a beautiful forest! We did a big loop while hiking through pine forest, meadowland and the most fun of all: the boardwalk. What a joy! Everything is well-marked and it is not too crowded. You can reward yourself with some Arethusa ice cream afterward!

Beautiful place. Great for family picnics, walking. You can bring your pets as long as they are on a leash. Awesome for picture taking, nature is your back drop
Beautiful little park with well maintained trails. Great for small hikes with families as well as slightly longer hikes in the woods. Beautiful grounds and gardens. Dog friendly Park.
Are you a nature lover? Then this place is for you. It is having scenic walking trails that wind through grassy fields, making it a great spot for picnics and immersing yourself in nature. The calm and peaceful vibe is perfect for unwinding. Grassy meadows will help you revive and also give you beautiful photos. Saw lines of cherry trees , must be a place to visit in cherry blossoms. Saw a lot of butterflies too.. Overall, a place for refreshment in the nature.. There were warning signs for wild bear. So, be-aware and go in groups.
Quite possibly the most beautiful estate grounds in Connecticut. Lots of families and folks with dogs, as well as signs of horses on the trail. Some of the trails were overgrown, but they were still hike-able and runnable. I was there on a late Saturday evening and it was still busy. Overall I got about 3 miles of running by hitting most (if not all) of the trails.
Beautiful well kept place for a walk, picnic, pictures...or just to be outside w/nature
What a wonderful serene place to wander about and relax! This was a delightful gem. The hiking is easy even on the very hot day we were here.
A quietly hidden little park with vast fields and groomed paths to enjoy long strolls!
What a beautiful and relaxing park to visit!

Cool building with lots of history. Was the 1st ever law school in the United States. We went here to check out the scarecrow competition happening around the backside, and found out the museum was free that day. Lots to see and read from the buildings history. There's a self guided tour, or a 15 minute guided tour. The little school House building was my favorite part. Great piece of history.
A delight to visit!..The grounds were beautifully maintained!..a brief video introduction and a self- guided tour through the House and Law school. Thoroughly enjoyed the displays, photos and text which were so interesting and informative. This is a must-see historical landmark!! Learned so much..Tappring Reeve and his partner, James Gould were ahead of their time in teaching!
Beautiful grounds and well preserved buildings. Very informative displays and a short film on this self guided tour. A worthwhile stop to step back in time on a trip to Litchfield and it is free!
Went to the Scarecrow exhibit. IT was great fun
Went for the Halloween Scarecrow show this year. Great weather and a beautiful show.
Outstanding place of local and legal history. This residence and one room law school have been turned into a museum of high quality. Go there to learn about the personalities involved, the students educated there (including 2 future vice presidents of the USA), and the political parties of the Era. The young staff is both friendly and helpful.
One of the best, most detailed and hands-on small museums I’ve been to. Lots of first-hand accounts from journals of the period, great historical context, and interactive exhibits that engage children. Great content for every age, and beautiful grounds that are open to all.
I purchased an evening historical tour for "scary stories about Litchfield of old" last week. I knew it was designed around Halloween but didnt take the PR too seriously. I was actually really shocked that the tour guide spoke exclusively about death & execution over 100 years ago. It was way too gory for me. I thought we would be educated about lots of people, homes, & local history with a few details of horror. The walk was nice, the lanterns great, the cocktails beforehand fabulous, the chatting with others on our tour was pleasant also. Some were cold, but I was dressed appropriately and happy with the cold & dark hour walk. I guess I would like more Historical Tours with informative (friendly)life history!

I’m giving this 5 stars because it is my son’s favorite place to go during the summer. It’s a small, simple state park that offers picnic tables and grills on both sides of the small beach and swimming area, which has made it easy to keep an eye on the kiddos when it’s time to prepare food. The bathrooms are right there as well, easily accessible, and clean. There is no lifeguard on duty which makes the swimming and playing experience much better IMO. Whether it’s tossing a ball around, diving for fish, fresh water mussels, crayfish, or items that people have lost in the water, there’s no fun police to squash whatever it is you enjoy. Even when the park is full, we’ve never had an issue with finding our own space and have only had good experiences with other people doing their own thing. Paddle boarding, kayaking/canoeing, swimming across the lake, fishing, or hiking there’s something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors. Lastly, the tower trail is a relatively short 15 minute hike to the top with 360° views from the top of the tower. Sunsets over the lake are especially nice. The only downside is the geese and the dirty little minefields you may encounter. If you’re nervous about them acting aggressive when you walk by them or they get to close, a word of advice, don’t look directly at them and they won’t feel threatened. Please don’t intentionally feed them it only makes them act more territorial. Enjoy!
I don't want to lie. It is a little difficult. 35 minutes walking to the tower from the picnic area. Grab a stick and enjoy the hike, beautiful views at top.
Beautiful state park. Nice beach. Shallow swim area. Great for kids. You can fish, kayak, hike, etc. large bathroom. No lifeguard.
Beautiful park, very peaceful, the water was clear and the walk up to the tower was nice. The bathrooms were very clean and close to the beach..
Had a wonderful time. The water was warm and I could see the bottom fairly clear when I was standing in around four and a half feet deep water. They didn't have a lifeguard on duty on the weekday that I was there. The sand on the beach was clean and no garbage or bird droppings. I have been told that this is a problem here. I didn't see any of this. Definitely will be planning another outing at this park. They also have nice picnic tables that are in the shade with grills for charcoal. They had a snack bar building that was not open on the weekday that I was there. Not sure if it is open on the weekend.
Easy hike with beautiful views at the top and an interesting stone tower!
We were looking for a green shady place by a river or falls to picnic. This was s nice, quiet spot, though we couldn't get close to the river. W didn't have time to explore, but United the picnic tables and the shade.
We had a great hike to the tower. Excellent views.
