Cabo Rojo

Cabo Rojo is a region on Puerto Rico’s southwest coast. The Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge is known for its diverse ecosystems, including mangroves and coral reefs. To the southwest, Los Morrillos Lighthouse overlooks limestone cliffs and Playa Sucia, a crescent-shaped beach. Trails from the red-and-white Corozo salt flats wind through mangrove forests toward secluded beaches.

A beautiful beach located just beyond the salt flats. It is a bit difficult to get there because it is about a mile walk from the parking area. But it is worth the trek. The beach is rustic but it is super clean and the waves are very calm. We loved it!
Unfortunately, during our trip, the beach was unusablely covered in seaweed. The walk wouldn’t have been bad if we got to cool off in the water at the beach, but walking 50 minutes straight in the heat for nothing was rough. The salt flats were cool but not worth the drive. I can see it would be very beautiful if not for the seaweed.
Cars are not allowed after a gate so you have to walk a lot to get to the lighthouse and somehow to the beach which we didn't go because it was so hot and after getting to the lighthouse we were exhausted. Plus you got to think of the walk back to your vehicle. It is very disappointing that there are parking signs and you have to walk all that. Why are cats not allowed inside??? The entrance to the beach before parking is nasty, I see why is called playa sucia. Now, we didn't get to the actual beach but someone said it was full of seaweed so maybe if you come another time, you could see the "beautiful" beach.
Unfortunately we couldn’t enjoy the beach as it was full of algae. The walk there was pretty nice if you like nature and don’t mind the heat. It’s about 30 min walk from the parking. You can see many birds like pelicans and smaller animals like hermit crabs. It’s a bird paradise, we just don’t know enough birds. There are some smaller cliffs just before getting to the beach. And an old light house that is pretty to look at. If you are adventurous you’ll probably like it. Don’t forget a sun hat, water and sunglasses.
Long hike but worth it! We went early and there weren't many people yet so we got a nice shady place in the trees. On our way out lots of people heading in. Parking sucks but seriously so beautiful. Picked up some trash on our way out. Remember to keep it clean. Made some hermit crab friends! Bring a sun shirt and hat for the walk!
Stunning place to come visit. A must of on this side of the island. The water is calm, clear, and perfect temperature! Plenty of hiking trails up to the lighthouse as well.
Plan a short walk into a beautiful beach. Lots of seaweed on about 50% of the beach. But the water color is beautiful. Took a hike up the cliffs, saw a sea turtle and fish. Beautiful vista views, turquoise waters, very calm water for kids with a gentle slope. No waves! Lots of shade trees up on the beach. Hermit crabs were fun to see and lots of birds. This is a nature.preserve so don't expect any amenities. Pack in and pack out trash. Keep it clean!
Beautiful beach! Very warm water but it gets deep very close to shore, and it’s full of rocks in that part. Very big beach with lots of shade. Gets very busy around noon so it’s better to go early, parking is on the road and can be very hard to find a spot. After parking is a 20 minute walk to the beach. Very with it! Wouldn’t recommend for swimming a lot.

Stunning views and well worth the hike up! Park near the gate and it’s about a 15 minute walk up in the heat - bring a hat, sun glasses, and water. Enjoy the most amazing views ever from up top. Absolutely beautiful.
El Faro is undeniably a beautiful and iconic spot with incredible views and a rich history. The natural surroundings are stunning, and it’s definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area. However, I was a bit disappointed with the current accessibility situation. I completely understand and respect the decision to restrict vehicle access in order to protect the environment and preserve the area for future generations. That said, it would make a big difference if some form of transportation was available to help visitors reach the lighthouse or the beach....especially considering how far the walk can be under the hot sun. Not everyone is physically able to make the full trip on foot, and this lack of accessibility makes it harder for families with children, elderly visitors, or people with mobility challenges to enjoy the experience. Even something as simple as a shuttle or electric cart service would be incredibly helpful. Overall, El Faro remains a special place, but I hope the management considers ways to improve access without compromising the area's natural beauty.
Beautiful view from the lighthouse cliff! The hike itself is fine, but if you’re coming after rain, be prepared—your shoes will get muddy, as the path from the parking lot to the lighthouse can be nothing but mud. Still, the view is absolutely worth it! As Ukrainians from the occupied territory of Ukraine-Crimea, these cliffs remind us so much of our own breathtaking coastline back home. Thank you, Puerto Rico, for giving us a glimpse of that beauty again.
Such an awesome place to explore! We drove here while staying in Rincon, PR. While all of Peurto Rico offers amazing places and breathtaking views, I think Faro Los Morrillos is something special. The drive wasn't bad to get there and it's just a short walk from the parking lot to some of the most beautiful shoreline we've seen. The lighthouse was super cool and the cliffs make for spectacular photos. we also liked the fact that the area was not crowded at all. we saw a few bicyclists and just a handful of people walking in and around the property. walked along the cliffs and enjoyed the views for a couple hours. Just amazing! Tip: Read the warning signs as the views can draw you in to a dangerous situation. Stay away from the edges and don't try to climb down, some of the edges have been known to break off and fall into the sea. Also, the winds can get pretty high at times. If you have children, I suggest keeping them very close and far back from the edge. I would love to come back someday. It is absolutely breathtaking!
Not for the faint of heart or physically challenged. The view is spectacular, the crabs, birds Iguana, and lizards are abundant. It's a bit of a walk from parking and and even longer walk to the lighthouse. If you can do it, you should.
Faro Los Morrillos is absolutely breathtaking! Located atop dramatic 200-foot limestone cliffs in Cabo Rojo, this historic 1882 lighthouse (the second-oldest in Puerto Rico) offers panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, nearby beach, and rugged coastal scenery. 📍 Access & Trails: Free parking is available with a 20-30 minute hike to the lighthouse. Along the way, enjoy stunning photo spots and optional trails to the natural “Stone Bridge” or Playa Sucia, a beautiful secluded beach perfect for relaxing or snapping pictures. 🧭 Visitor Tips: Wear comfortable shoes for rocky terrain. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, and mosquito repellent if staying for sunset. There are no guardrails near the cliffs be cautious and stay safe. The surrounding views are the real highlight. 🌅 Best time to visit: Early morning or sunset, when the light hits the cliffs. Bottom line: A must-see on the island! Whether you're into history, photography, or simply want a peaceful escape with dramatic coastal views, Faro Los Morrillos delivers. Highly recommended!
Perched at the edge of Puerto Rico’s wild southwest, Faro Los Morrillos de Cabo Rojo rises like a stoic sentinel—its slate-gray tower and turquoise shutters gleaming under a punishing Caribbean sun. From its base, weathered limestone cliffs tumble steeply into sapphire waters, where waves crash and echo across timeworn rock. We hiked under a blazing sky, following the trail past hundreds of coastal birds and through salt flats shimmering with white crystal edges. The sea breeze was intermittent relief, but the true reward came upon reaching the cliffs—a jaw-dropping amphitheater of stone and sea. Erosion has sculpted the coast into jagged outcrops, natural bridges, and vertical drops that make your heart pause. Looking out, the Mona Passage stretches endlessly, its horizon blurred by salt mist. Behind us, the lighthouse stands still and timeless, a perfect backdrop to the drama of nature unfolding in every direction. We sheltered briefly in its shade, sipping what little water we had left, before continuing on to explore the cliff edges. While the scenery is unmatched, the presence of scattered litter serves as a quiet reminder: not all who visit respect the wild. Yet, in that contrast, there’s a call—to cherish, to protect, and to remember that this rugged corner of the island offers something rare: unfiltered beauty, vulnerability, and awe.
Visiting El Faro Los Morrillos in Cabo Rojo was an unforgettable experience! The views are absolutely breathtaking cliffs overlooking the ocean, dramatic landscapes, and a lighthouse that makes for a perfect backdrop in your photos. Be prepared for a bit of a walk to get there, but it’s totally worth it. Make sure to dress light, wear comfortable sneakers, and stay hydrated, especially on sunny days. The scenery along the way is just as beautiful as the destination, making it perfect for pictures and soaking in Puerto Rico’s natural beauty.

Super calm beach with no waves, clear water, and fun activities to do. You can get on a banana boat, jet skis, rent a boat. So many things. And the best part is how there's not a single wave. Even when the place is "packed" , it never feels super full. Great place to go alone, with family, or couples.
Highly recommend. Beautiful beach! Lots of trees and shade. Boat & jet ski rentals. Free parking across the street — 50 cent showers / restrooms. Beautiful place to watch the sunset!!
Playa Buye has nice, clean water that’s not too cold great for a quick dip. Unfortunately, the downsides are hard to ignore: limited and tricky parking, small and damaged public bathrooms, and it’s almost always overcrowded. Worth a stop if you’re nearby, but not ideal for a relaxing beach day.
We drove 3 hours to get to this beach from luquillo cause my wife wanted clearer water lol. She was happy here. They have natural shade and everyone just gets under a tree wherever there's space. We brought our own chairs but we saw rentals where you can get chairs and umbrellas. There was a lot in the end where you can pay 10 for parking or park for free along the street whereever there's a spot. We forgot a cooler but there was a bar right behind us that made very good drinks. Cocktails from $7 to $10 and beer for about $4 to $5. They sold typical food next to the bar like sorrullos and pastelios which came in handy. My wife liked the beach so much she almost made me drive 3 hours to go back the next day.
Loved it plenty of food vendors drinks. Little $00.50 cent shower by the parking lot. Clean beach. Has a tree swing. Kid and family friendly
OMG..!!! The beach is the right spot for a perfect, chilling relax day…!!! You have vendors for ice cream and mojitos.! Also some local restaurants around. To me this is THE BEST BEACH ON THE SOUTH PART. 🤩
Guess my expectations were a little to high but was also Saturday, overcrowded is an understatement. Water was not clear at all and thick layer of seaweed on the bottom, about 5 feet in. Unfortunately drove about an hour to get to this beach, nice if you’re close by but that was rough.
Beautiful, clear, and warm water. It has a good extension of sand, I went on a weekend, and it was crowded. You can enjoy your alcoholic or non alcoholic drink on the sand or in the water.

An absolutely beautiful beach and very clean. The water was warm and so clear. There are beautiful iguanas around to look at and a very peaceful place to be. Highly recommend. 1 down side the porter potty are nasty so I recommend finding a different place to use the bathroom.
The gate was closed way outside forcing all to park farther away from the coast. There is no proper signage to tell where things are, what's closed, what are the distances etc. In July there is a thick layer of dead vegetation around the beach.
Absolutely stunning beach and not too crowded around sunset. Within reasonable walking distance to the main tourist street with all of the bars and restaurants. Watch for falling coconuts 🥥 (and heads up there are jellyfish!)
It's one of our preferred spots in Boqueron. The Balneario de Boqueron it is one of the most popular and beaches for locals and tourists. The beach has over a mile of golden sand and the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea. It has coconut trees for shade, plenty of parking, and a safe area. Its location is accessible because it is in the "Poblado", you can walk there.
Gorgeous but needs a ton of work. Worth the 5 bucks to get it but I woyod park in town and walk over the bridge for free next time.
Beautiful beach, plenty of parking, and life guards.
We visited on Labor Day Weekend and the water was super clear and clean but you couldn't stay in the water because there was something that stung like pins.
What a wonderful public beach. The beach is super clean and the water is crystal clear. We really enjoyed ourselves. The water was so warm. As you come in, you have to pay at the gate in order to park in one of two parking areas. Plenty of parking space. We walked the beach and reached a boardwalk area which led to a marina which had plenty of bars and restaurants. It was a very cool vibe.

It is like being on grandma's house... delicious hot chocolate, coffee and sandwiches. 😋
This place wasn’t open. The hours posted do not reflect actual operating hours. This business only opens sometimes and the hours are inconsistent. They haven’t opened in a while. 🙁
Found this place based on their positive reviews. A family of six took a detour from our trip to stop by to try their coffee. When arrived the guy working there was talking on the phone. We gave him couple of minutes and approached again with no much success. Moreover, when I approached the counter the guy turned his back and kept talking. We got a pretty good coffee and brunch at Green Bowls.
It's perfect for an evening stroll in the town especially on a weekend the plaza offers a nostalgic center of town experience, with musicians and artists on several weekends especially during the summer. Fairly priced and a nice selection Oak beverages and confections.
Great coffee break stop and local recipe candy..
Good place to hangout drink coffee the tropical sandwich es very 👍 very good on the second Thursday they have life jazzed there are other places around the town
