We are so glad we did as it was so good. It was that good we had to visit for a second time. The staff were so friendly and looked like they actually enjoyed working there. While being on holiday I thought it’s a great time to visit as I’ve had to wait a long 8 months to come back. I can tell you now it was definitely worth the wait! Food was incredible, definitely took us by surprise. The smashed cheeseburger was delicious, the classy chick was decent, the mutha clucka dirty fries were great. Sauces were decent, drinks were refreshing. Unfortunately the chicken tenders were a let down but other than that, food was spot on. Service was quite good, open and honest about the 45 minute wait time for food before being seated which I appreciated and respected. Definitely worth the 45 minute wait tho, we were well looked after and staff were very friendly and welcoming. I noticed they must be short staffed so we didn’t mind. Would highly recommend to those who love burgers. Definitely worth a shout, the cheeseburger is a go to.

Plenty of gluten free options,I had half a rotisserie chicken, fries and a side of green vegetables. The chicken was perfect, tasty & moist, the greens were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We tried to book online but as we were in a group of 9 it said to call, we tried to call but no answer so we walked to the restaurant to ask instead. We were told the table is available for up to 2 hours only, which we said was more than enough time. When we arrived, we didn't have a seat upstairs after all, we were downstairs. We were not fussed where we were but the earlier conversation seemed unnecessary I don't know if people didn't turn up or if the booking system had a glitch but the restaurant was empty when we turned up. The orders were taken and the food quickly arrived. It was ok, well presented. Not big in portion and not much taste. My steak was a little like cardboard. The wings were dry and seemed like they had sat under a hot lamp for hours. The olives didn't taste fresh. Others in the group felt the same, it was ok .. just ok The person clearing our table was rather grumpy and seemed like she didn't want to be there. Lovely place, ok food. We had a great time chatting and being together, we ate the food but so hungry and tired from leaving London at 4am so we didn't stay long anyway.

We visit The Firehouse every year and every year it gets worse!! I had booked well in advance of our holiday and disappointed would be the understatement of the century. The meat was so overcooked salty and just awful. The so called rump steak was more like a minute steak on my plate and my husband couldnt even cut into his let alone chew it. And that was it we were left……… My husband then went over to ask for the manager who then told us the same thing about the butcher and that they didn’t have extras. Just shocking service. However, I was put off from ordering a starter and a dessert because of the poor service which was polite but slow. After waiting 30 minutes, the restaurant wasn't busy, our drinks and food order was finally taken and the food and drinks arrived at roughly the same time; like buses but without the iced water, which never arrived. I can only put this down to us being placed in an annexe away from the main restaurant, as we had our dog with us. We come every year and haven’t visited the loft before but are so glad we did! The food on offer is all really cosy and rich in flavour. For starter I had the muscles which were delicious and cooked in a lovely chorizo and tomato sauce - such an amazing change from the usual white wine. I had the Hake which was absolutely delicious and came with the most amazing curry sauce I’ve ever had. The rest of my party had the beef cheek and the lamb rigatoni which were both slow cooked and the meat was falling to pieces they said they were delicious too! The service was good but could have been slightly better if the staff were more attentive- they seemed very rushed and busy. We will definitely visit again.

Expected to pay a premium for this- and did! Our dog was allowed inside which was unexpected and appreciated. My main course was missed off the order so had to be cooked after the rest of the table had been served. There was no apology by the waiter just, 'chef says it has been missed off the order and it will be 4-5 mins.' When it arrived it was very nice. Bbq hake, beans and buttered potatoes. Would have probably eaten here a couple of more times this week had it not been for the mess up with the main course, lack of decent apology and 15% service charge which we didn't notice until the bill arrived. I would have tipped anyway but not the 15% considering the mess up. Very unlikely to return again.

We had a starter, main and dessert each and only regret being too full for more. The waitresses were also fantastic. So lovely, polite and warm. It was like being at a cosy relative's house and not leaving without a full belly and a big smile! This restaurant deserves its own chain with places popping up on every corner! While the starters were rather enjoyable the mains and dessert unfortunately let the side down. The mud pie was excruciatingly rich, with each bite needing to be balanced by an excess of ice cream. The waiter's were great and very friendly and helped us with choosing a bottle of wine and the food. We had a bottle of Rosa which was perfectly chilled, pale and dry just as I like it. Went for four cocktail snacks instead of starter's which turned out to be the right decision. All were very tasty and the pork crackling turned out to be the biggest one I have ever seen including a real tasty dip inside the apple so don't forget to eat it if you order it. For mains I had lamb which was cooked just right pink in the middle all very tasty. Dessert was a sundae which we shared its to much for just one we thought. I would recommend this restaurant even if your not staying at the hotel as they do take none residence.

To start, I had the lobster macaron. While beautifully presented and the lobster itself was tasty, the dish was let down by the overly sweet, crunchy macaron with a synthetic lemon flavour that clashed badly with the seafood. In hindsight, perhaps a misjudgment in ordering on my part - but at £18, it still felt like poor value. For the main, I chose the confit pork belly. Again, it looked great and the pork belly itself was well cooked. However, the accompanying potato and pig cheek pavé was unpleasant in both taste and texture, and the wild garlic emulsion and pork fat crumb were similarly disappointing. I actually left most of it uneaten, which is extremely rare for me. My mum had the Asian-style white fish with sticky rice and dhal. She also left a significant portion of it. The rice was clumpy and poorly cooked, and the lentils were overwhelmed by what tasted like far too much curry powder, masking any other flavour. Being our first visit to St Ives with only time for one dinner we stumbled upon Ardor as we were walking past. The ambience and decor is cosy and inviting. We were given a seat at the chef's counter where we were able to experience a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. The reason I have given 3 stars is the price and service charge add on. Got to say the drive to and from the car park was tight and through the town, but we managed to squeeze down the tight roads in our Ford Ranger. The Porthgwidden Beach Café was a lovely unexpected jewel, we were greeted by the staff and seated at the lovely window table overlooking the bay. The food choice was just what we expected, and the quality was 2nd to non, we both had the fish and chips, which was great quality and taste. The service was extremely quick, and the staff where really friendly, giving us advice on the scenery and where we should visit. All in all I will give this place a 5/5 for food, service and a friendly atmosphere. We will definitely save this as a favourite for when we return back to Cornwall.

The girl who served us was very happy, welcoming and polite. Service was quick and we waited for our order. Attached is a picture of my meal and also a bowl full of batter that I picked from my fish. Far too much batter, maybe they should drain it a little more to get just a thin coating of batter (happy customer) and use less batter mix (happy owner). The portion of peas and gravy for the price was far too small. In Nottingham you'd pay half the price for the same amount, tourist trap? Huge portions, couldn't finish it. Great value! Loved it!! Visited here last night with my son and husband. Check the opening times as it closes early at 8pm. And it is closed on a Sunday and Monday. We eat in the restaurant and have had our best meal yet on holiday. It has a real oldie worldie charming feel to it inside. When you enter, there is a sign saying go to the far end of the bar to be seated. In short, the lady takes your name, asks you to buy drinks at the bar, and then goes that's done. You'll be taken to your seat. Food is made to order, but ours came out quickly. Brillant kids menu. See pic plus colours and activity sheet kept our boy busy. The fish and chips were perfection! I ordered the steak. The steak is to DIE FOR!! It has such a rich flavor and I bet I can eat 3 steaks in one sitting. It may seem small at first but it’s actually a lot bigger than you would expect. It’s got a bar as well, if you want some drinks! They even give you little easy-to-bite mints at the end. The waitresses are extremely kind and helpful and they will provide extra information for your benefits. Also this place has the most amazing fries/chips!!! Chandeliers in the hallway leading to the stairs down into the restaraunt create an air of opulence and sophistication that's enforced when greeted at the entrance to the large dining room. Although below street level natural light is provided by a window at one end of the long room as the old venue is built on a steep incline overlooking the harbour. The polished boarded floor is furnished with polished wooden tables spaced to create a calm and uncluttered feel to the dining area. We chose the grilled goats cheese to start, the herb encrusted hake for our main and the chocolate brownie for desert. We have dined at over a dozen restaraunts in St Ives and the food in the Cellar Bistro stands head and shoulders above the rest. The herb encrusted hake was amazing, perfectly seasoned and exploding with flavour. Every dish was beautifully presented. The chocolate brownie with salted caramel was breathtakingly fabulous! All the staff worked tirelessly as a team and still made time to engage in conversation at the tables when appropriate. Our whole evening was a superb, sophisticated yet friendly and down to earth experience and a culinary delight of the highest order. Simply fabulous!

I had the ribeye steak, medium rare and it was so succulent and tender. One of the best I’ve had for sure. However, the presentation wasn’t great and there wasn’t much flair to the layout of the food in any way. The staff were all super friendly and attentive, bringing water for our dog as we sat down (withhout having to ask) and removing a chair to make seating at the table feel more comfortable with a dog. Firstly, food was incredible! One of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been to, easily my top 3. Portion sizes were perfect, flavours were divine. Garlic pizza bread was delicious, perfect amount of tomato sauce, perfect amount of garlic and the bread was just incredible. The Cajun chicken tagliatelle and spaghetti bolognaise was delicious. Just the right amount of tomato sauce and the flavours were on point. Side of chips and cheesy garlic bread with their house garlic mayonnaise were spot on. Lastly, the tiramisu was the perfect way to end the night off. “Traditional recipe” is the description they used and through every bite you can definitely taste the “tradition”. Service was great, could not fault a single thing. We were taken well care of and staff were very polite and respectful. Overall it’s decently priced and well worth the money. We had a warm welcome and lovely meal. Giant olives were delicious along with the huge dough balls which my son loved. Sea food linguine was lovely and the pizzas too. Super friendly staff who all work so hard, to make everything such a great experience for everyone. Monique was our waitress on our fist night and was very attentive in taking our order and making sure our food was OK once it arrived. Needless to say, the food was absolutely outstanding, very reasonably priced and we only wished we lived closer, as we would be eating there every week! The staff were friendly, and accommodating - it was really busy but they still gave us a table despite us not ordering food. I had Cornish Smugglers rum and lemonade - it was gorgeous! For some reason, today the lady behind the bar decided that she would organise who sat where based on whether you were a couple or not. Meaning you then have to awkwardly stand there for 20 mins feeling unwelcome if you don’t want to pay the extra hidden charge. The main room as you walk in has one awkward and impractical large table and usually people queueing down one side. The other main room with more available and practical seating had live music, which was way too loud to actually have a conversation with anyone else on your table. Unfortunately the staff also make you feel like you’re annoying them by generally being in there. Overall a stressful unwelcoming experience in what should be a positive place.

We had seen the lunch offer of pizza & drink for £15 advertised on various social media platforms the day before. On arrival the offer was clearly advertised at the steps to the outdoor terrace. We found a really lovely sunny spot and waited for someone to take our order. No one came out to our table so we assumed we should enquire at the bar. I went in with my uncle and asked about the lunch offer menu. Well unfortunately asking this question was the start of multiple customer service failings. The barman had to check with the kitchen and came back to tell us that the dough was still proving so pizzas were not available at that time. My uncle enquired what time the pizzas would be available and the barman disappeared to the kitchen again, on his return we were told it would be several hours and offered the standard lunch menu and apologised for the inconvenience. My uncle was less than impressed with the lack of clarity and asked if pizzas would be available at all today? this proved to be a rather challenging question again! My uncle decided to speak to the front desk and he was finally told that the pizza chef hadn’t turned up for work, another chef would be in at 3pm but wasn’t trained in cooking pizza! As you can imagine the debacle was incredibly unprofessional and judging by the lack of customers there is a reason for that. We were offered a round of beverages for the inconvenience and were told someone would be out to take our order. We sat for 10 minutes and finally decided to leave the venue as we felt at that point we were being ignored and headed into town for a rather late lunch elsewhere. Whilst in the bar may I add two people who were having drinks actually told us not to bother with the food as it had gone downhill, so all in all perhaps we had a lucky escape. The things that stand out to me during this experience is the lack of professionalism and a huge lack of communication between staff. In fairness the barman did his best to be as polite as possible and apologise but he can only work with what he is given…no pizzas! Bearing in mind the terrace was not even half full with customers the service was almost non existent when table service should be as standard at this type of venue. If promoting and marketing a lunch offer it would be wise to advise if the offer is not available and posters replaced, and social media updated. A very disappointing experience and unfortunately we will not return.

When we booked they kindly said they would up grade us as it was our Honeymoon ... Well I can't imagine what they were going to give us if they didn't give us the upgrade. First the room was tiny, couldn't swing a cat in there. Room was very hot and the main light was like a disco, I did speak to the receptionist but nothing was done. Good point the bed was comfy. A man would have a problem using the toilet standing up, the ceiling is low, and we had to ask the cleaning team to re clean our bathroom as attention to detail was really bad, I didn't want to stand on the bathroom floor. They did have a go at it but not very well at all. Breakfast was very good, the staff just need training on how to make coffees. Evening meals were OK. Spa was Excellent, so if you are going, make sure you use of all the facilities there, or maybe try that hotel instead. We have now been here twice and thought we would give them a second chance.. If you are looking for a nice meal out, do not go to this restaurant. The photos are amazing but apart from the view and the staff (who are lovely), this restaurant is awful. We saw the reviews online and were hoping that we would catch it on a good day but sadly that was not the case. The food is crazily overpriced for food that sounds fancy but is over cooked and dry. Our bill for two, for two courses and two drinks each came to almost £200!! My partner and I would always normally order a bottle of wine but we were so outraged by the pricing that we couldn’t possibly rationalise it. A bottle that cost £17 in Waitrose was £85??!! (Wine list attached below) Our pudding was tasty but was completely frozen so we had to wait for 15/20 minutes while it thawed out. The restaurant also very much feels like you are in the hotels canteen with super bright lighting and no atmosphere whatsoever. I understand that the hotel has recently closed the Ugly Butterfly restaurant so I hope for their sake they create an alternative option to what is the worst restaurant I’ve eaten in for some time.
