Cioppino- my first cioppino with fregula & fried soft shell crab- I am a fan! Oh the compliments doesn’t stop at the cioppino, the SERVICE IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL! So welcoming, so accommodating and attentive! Our server couldn’t be any friendlier and professional at the same time! The staffs or the chef even took the time to make our birthday cake (from another store) extra special and we were all in dumbstruck how their attention to details are to make us felt so welcomed and made our meal extra special! The owner and staffs attention to details is on the fine dining level- or even better than some of the fine dining restaurants and I can’t wait to dine again at the wild artichoke soon!

I was looking for a gluten-free restaurant to visit with my niece, who has celiac disease, and her dad. We selected Oceans & Earth and were not disappointed. However, our visit could have ended before it began as we learned upon arrival that reservations were required. (I did not see this fact on their website, nor did I see it when I checked just now.) Fortunately for our party, they were able to accommodate us on the patio. Our meal was amazing. We started with the Monster Guacamole and the Ahi Tuna Poke. Both were generous portions, and we had plenty to share. The poke was especially delicious. It had a sweet marinade on it that was particularly perfect. My boys ordered the hamburgers and couldn't even tell the difference with the gluten-free buns. My niece and I shared the fried chicken together. (The picture is what we had left after we each took our portions.) It was such a tender bite, and the breading was light and perfect, not overwhelming like some can be. My niece enjoyed the twice baked potato as well. She said it was like mac & cheese. We also sampled the creme brulee and a selection of macarons. My favorite was the pumpkin spice. Don’t think of this as a just a gluten free restaurant first…it just happens to be dedicated gluten free, but no sacrifices to quality or taste are made. Some members of my family were unaware we were in a GF restaurant and were shocked when I told them. Everyone said it was one of the best meals they’ve had in a long time. As someone who gluten free, it was so nice to not be an afterthought, to not only have one choice on a menu or to be stuck with nothing but a salad. It was a very special meal. Polly's is well known for it pie, but offers a great menu for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Wish I could give them zero stars. Ordered from this place on Dec. 21st for curbside pick up. Once you arrive for your pick up, you need to call so that they can bring it out to you. I had to call 9 times until someone finally answered the phone and brought my food out. Once I got home and was setting the food for my family, I notice one of the meals was missing and the family meal we had ordered was missing all the topping. I called them right away (took another 10 tries to get someone on the phone) told them what had happened. The girl on the line responded "do you want to come back and pick it up?" I told her No, I didn't want to drive back as I live on the other side of Yorba and to just give me a refund. She said she had to let a manager know and since he was in the kitchen he would have to call me back later to fix the issue or "work something out" I gave her my number and was expecting to receive a call later that evening or the next day. It's now Dec. 27th and never heard back from the manager or received a refund for the missing order. The food was nasty and tasted like pure grease. The "nachos" are disgusting, it was more like some sort of soup mixed with sour cream and cheese, just aweful! I know it's just a Denny's but for $65 of overpriced disgustig food, I expected the food and service to be a little better than this.

When we were ready to leave, I complimented them on the food and service and they gave me a completed punch card to come back before we left and try one of their fruit smoothies, so we will be going back on our last morning before leaving to return home. Honestly, Avalon has done and complete 180- what once was a great neighborhood bagel shop has become and constant disappointment. Orders frequently take an obscene amount of time. Over 30mins to get a few toasted bagels to go. And if you order a smoothie, you get it right away and then have to wait for your order while your smoothie becomes a melted mess. And once you finally get your order, be sure to check it because more often than not it’s either incorrect or missing something. And be prepared to argue with an employee when you bring it up. They’ve become really aggressive when bringing up their mistakes. Probably because it happens so frequently. I’ve been blamed for not ordering something and then when I bring receipts (literally) they start blaming each other. It’s a real mess. And no apologies to be found anywhere. This isn’t just based on one bad experience- it’s been a constant decline and now I’m just over it and done with Avalon. The prices keep going up, quality and accuracy go down, and the employees have become pretty terrible to deal with. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a good experience. I’ve only been returning because my kids like, but going to have to put my foot down on this one. I’m tired of overpaying for declining disappointing food. There are a lot of good places in the area. I said we waited for a child’s meal for 15 minutes after everyone else was served, When you did bring her a plate it was the wrong plate so it was taken back and when you took it back you sent it out to another table as it was with a half eaten fry on it. She claimed she had changed plates to a new one. I told her she was a liar we watched exactly what she did. No new plate! She offered a desert to my grand daughter. Wow! Health department hello. It was presented quite nicely which is a rather nice change from typical diners that seem to throw all the food together. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this diner.
