Dover

Dover is a coastal town in England’s southeastern county of Kent. It’s a major port for ferries to Calais, in France. Built to repel invasions from across the English Channel, medieval Dover Castle overlooks the town and houses the extensive Secret Wartime Tunnels. The iconic White Cliffs of Dover are symbolic safeguards at Britain’s closest point to continental Europe.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Dover Castle, located on England's eastern flank, has a rich history dating back to the Iron Age. The castle boasts medieval underground works and war-time tunnels that offer captivating views and tours. Originally fortified in the 1st century, it was later modified for artillery warfare by Henry VIII. The Napoleonic Wars saw the addition of a network of tunnels with gun positions and casemates dug into the cliff.
We visited on a Sunday. The castle grounds are huge. There are 3 different sets of tunnels you can explore, two of them with a guide and the medieval tunnels to explore on your own. We spent the whole day there. Very interesting. Lots to see and explore. Good cafe for lunch. Highly recommend.

Absolutely a fantastic place to visit oozing with history. The site is large so allow plenty of time. It's also hilly and within the castle there is a lot of stairs. The tunnels under the castle were fascinating especially if you have an interest in WWII. Though they date back to the late 1700s. Tours are run at regular intervals and the staff are extremely knowledgeable. All staff were helpful and nice. We were able to park on site but I imagine school holidays could cause an issue sometimes. There's is a carpack for disabled drivers much closer and on a flatter level near the castle itself. Plenty of toilets dotted around the grounds and a cafe and ice cream van as well as one serving hot drinks and snacks. Small p.ay area with climbing equipment for children. Great views over Dover and the port. Also visit the Saxon Church that is within the grounds.

Was a wonderful visit, went there with a friend of mine and we explored everything the castle had to offer. Under the castle there are some interesting tunnels with a lot of interesting stories. You will learn a bit about the war and the importance of the castle in the past. It's worth the money.

You could easily spend a whole day here visiting the various sections of the large site. Of special interest to us were the Secret War Tunnels. It is a 30-minute tour with an informed and entertaining guide. (Unfortunately no photos allowed.) There is no extra fee for the tour. It is included with your entrance fee. There is also a tour of the hospital tunnels which we didn’t have time to take but would have been interested to see. We also enjoyed seeing the castle which is furnished in replicas from the period which we didn’t expect. Again, the attendants were friendly and informed. On a nice day there are lovely picnic area to enjoy.

Travelled from Folkestone to visit the Castle on my way home to London and could have kicked myself as id left my bank card at the hotel so didn't manage to get inside the castle which was a disappointment. The grounds are stunning and the views over the harbour are exceptional.
Sarah E — Google review
There is so much to see here - definitely plan enough time! I would recommend buying tickets online, if you can. If not, you can drive up and park, then walk inside and purchase tickets in the gift shop in the main castle area at the top of the hill. The grounds are really well maintained and the staff is so friendly and helpful! The various tours close early, so be sure to hit them first, then tour the rest at your leisure. We started at the top, toured the tunnels, then went and did the two tours at the bottom before making the trek back up. (I would recommend this route) There is a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes! The views are incredible and there is so much to see. The only thing we weren’t a big fan of was the gaudy colors of the decorations in the main castle - they reminded us of a children’s play set - but that’s just our opinion. It definitely didn’t dampen the experience! There are ample restroom facilities located all around the property. It seemed like the kind of place that might be difficult to maneuver in a manual wheelchair, but we don’t use a wheelchair so there might be accommodations we didn’t see. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

Brilliant place to visit. Be prepared to spend all day. Lots to see and do.Great tower, keep, old church and ancient lighthouse, ramparts, secret defence tunnels, wartime tunnels, various exhibitions, battlements, glorious views across Dover and the Channel. Definitely a English Heritage jewel.
Valerie H — Google review
Absolutely worth the visit. We were scheduled to board the ferry and had a few hours to ourselves. We visited the castle and were absolutely amazed at how much there is to see. The local guides were friendly and very informative - their knowledge, not only of the castle but general English history, is very impressive. This castle is well worth the visit.

Dover Museum and Bronze Age Boat Gallery is a historical treasure trove located in the iconic port town of Dover. The museum showcases the rich history of the area, featuring rare prehistoric artifacts and archaeological exhibits dating back to ancient times. Visitors can explore the Roman Painted House, artillery forts along the coastline, and take a walk on the River Dour Trail to delve into the town's fascinating past.
Pleasantly surprised by the amount of items and information in this museum. We didn't have much time before our parking ran out but decided to take a quick look as it was free to enter. It's spread over several levels which can be accessed by stairs or lift. The bronze aged boat is a true marvel and well preserved. Each floor of the museum is full of interesting things, so much more than we were expecting, even the corridors and staircase has something to look at. We will need to go back and spend more time exploring 20 minutes wasn't anywhere near long enough! The staff are lovely and helpful. There is a gift shop with a range of items. If you are in Dover it's well worth a visit!
Paula — Google review
It is a good museum that ellaborates on Dover's Roman and prehistoric history alongside some other exhibits peppered in. There are some fun interactive objects which are fun for children. Perhaps the best presented and most interesting exhibit is the prehistoric bronze age boat which is used to elaborate parts of that time period. I do wish there was some more modern objects and they could have been related back to the older history. However if you want to learn about Dover's history through the millennia than this is a good shout.
Taha K — Google review
Genuinely enjoyable experience, loads to read and even touch! I love an interactive museum that's suitable for autistic & adhd people. 3 floors & 2 awesome taxidermy animals (i won't spoil the surprise which). The Bronze Age Boat is a must see!
Katie — Google review
Nice place to visit, has a free access, with 3 floors exhibition, and VR experience on the top floor. Also bronze age Vikings boat is really cool too.
Lora W — Google review
Fantastic little Museum! See a well-preserved boat that's around 3600 years old, and a comprehensive history from the time the Romans landed in 46ad to modern times. Countless artifacts on display from every era. We'll worth a stop, and admission is free.
Richard H — Google review
We were delighted with the Dover Museum. The first floor is primarily concerned with the history of Dover through the ages, with dioramas and model figures illustrating people’s dress of the time, starting with the Stone Age. Most of the relics on this floor were replicas, with the originals being at the British Museum - something a lot of museums have in common. The second floor was for temporary exhibitions, this one being displays of models, miniatures and some toys from the past. The third floor had more on the history of Dover, and a separate section devoted to the Dover Bronze Age Boat, a wooden boat from about 3000 years ago that was discovered during highway construction. The government didn’t want to pay for proper analysis, so a large team of conservationists retrieved as much of the boat as they could. Having been buried in silt and water, the parts they found looked in reasonable condition, but the wood would disintegrate if any stress was put on it. They cut it into pieces, soaked the wood in a polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution to stabilize the wood, and then sent the pieces to a separate facility that freeze-dried them. Another team decided to reproduce the boat using (mostly) bronze-age tools and methods (I say mostly because they did use a chain saw to fell the tree). This let them learn more about how the boat had been constructed. Both the original and the copy are on display. The museum also has extensive displays on people who swam the English Channel (or claimed to, in some cases.)
Steve L — Google review
You can't help but be impressed that bronze age sailors created this ship. The display is very good. If you go to the museum start upstairs with the ship. Give it your attention while your mind is fresh. You will be wowed.
Carol B — Google review
Interesting museum covering local history in Dover, with the bronze age boat providing a remarkable centerpiece. Believed to date back over 3,500 years, it's the world's oldest known seagoing boat, and is displayed in a custom built exhibition room. Reconstructions, videos and information displays detail its discovery and history. The museum also covers local geology, architectural and military history amongst other things, so there's likely something to interest everyone. Displays are well presented and informative. Entry is free, donations are welcomed and there's a gift shop and onsite toilet facilities. All floors are wheelchair accessible. The opening times displayed on Google Maps were inaccurate when I visited, incorrectly suggesting the museum was closed, so I'd recommend checking the museum's official website.

The Roman Painted House is a fascinating attraction in Dover, offering a glimpse into the area's rich history. Built around 200 AD, this section of Roman ruins was once an inn for travelers crossing the English Channel. The site showcases well-preserved painted murals on its walls and offers exhibits that provide insight into Dover's past as a leading naval base for Roman Britain. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the site also features a garden space perfect for picnics.
If you're into history, particularly Roman history in GB, then this is definitely worth a visit. Such a great exhibition to have in Dover and it's free admission. Excellent museum. Please leave a token of your appreciation on the way out £££.

It's pretty amazing to think that this was discovered during roadworks! Very nicely preserved and presented in a way that you can imagine how it looked in 300AD. The Romans worked hard with limited tools to create this building complete with heating system! You can view the house from the gallery looking down and also the basement so you are on the same level as the building. It's free to enter, there isn't really a car park but there are some disabled spaces just outside. There are display cabinets with artifacts found on site and some interesting plaster panels showing some of the paintings. Thereare toilets on site and a small gift shop. Doesn't take long to view, we stayed around 30 minutes but didn't read everything. Very interesting piece of history, well worth a visit.
Paula — Google review
Well worth a visit as it's free to visit, you can make a donation if you want. Run by volunteers and only open on Saturday's during the summer months.

Amazing FREE experience, very detailed sign posts and explanations, the building has been preserved marvellously and is beautiful to look at. Highly recommend as a free 30 min thing to do whilst in Dover :)

The Dover Transport Museum, located just a short drive from Dover town center, is a delightful attraction for visitors of all ages. The museum showcases an impressive collection of vintage vehicles including cars, buses, locomotives, and motorbikes. As you wander through the spacious halls, you'll encounter replicas of historical storefronts and signage that span various eras from the early public transit systems to modern-day transportation.
A great place for nostalgia. Really good exhibits with knowledgeable staff around to guide you. Lots of things for kids to do. Coffee and cakes were good. Coffee was surprisingly tasty and sponge cake was one of the best in a snack bar. Well done staff. Tickets are valid for a year, so I will be back........ definitely!

Making use of the £12 for a year ticket! Already been in a couple of times ( for the bacon butty ) Staff are lovely, exhibits are well presented.

Whilst a small museum it's bigger than it looks. Lots of vintage things set about and well displayed. Place is run by volunteers all of which were friendly and nice as well as being passionate. Cafe was accommodating for gluten free and didn't make a fuss so that was also a nice touch. Some exhibits could do with a slight revamp to bring in the fresh blood but despite that it was still a cracking little museum worthy of going to visit. If you're into your vintage nostalgic cars and bikes or even just the walking back through time this is something right up your street. Really enjoyed my visit. Thanks to the staff

Had a great visit here the place is small but packed with different vehicles. The food was great and a good price and the staff were very friendly.
Mathew B — Google review
One of the most exciting and friendly places to go if you are into history or love classic cars, trucks and bikes. Fantastic volunteers and staff, friendly atmosphere and café inside. One time ticket purchase gives you access for a year, sometimes there are events held like the classic bike show last weekend! It was excellent.
Callam T — Google review
Excellent surprisingly large museum, well presented with fascinating range of exhibits. The enthusiasm of the team is infectious, and the cafe definitely worth a visit too. Their collections are displayed with informative notice boards, and presented such that you can readily access sections that are of most interest to you. Outside there is plenty of space for specialist marque clubs and events, which added further interest and value to us on the day of our visit.
Anton G — Google review
My family and I visited back in November and again today, as initial entrance fee is valid for the entire year. This is excellent value for money, and the volunteers have done an amazing job to make this place look great. My 2 year old daughter absolutely loves this place. Even if your not particularly into motor vehicles, this museum is still an absolute gem. The museum displays include vehicles of all kinds, shops which you actually walk into and upstairs. Our favourite sections were being allowed upstairs on the double decker tour bus, model railway (which is huge) and when it's available- using the fire engine hose to knock down targets! Well done to all the volunteers that make this place such a great day out.

Nature & Parks
Samphire Hoe is a 30-hectare nature reserve located between Folkestone and Dover, created from the material excavated during the construction of the Channel Tunnel. It offers stunning views of the White Cliffs of Dover and provides opportunities for walks, picnics, angling, and dog walking. The site is bursting with wildlife, birds, butterflies, and wildflowers. Visitors can enjoy two miles of flat, traffic-free walking trails along with peaceful surroundings amid beautiful scenery.
A great place for a walk - we took our dogs and they enjoyed it too. Yes, you pay to park, but £2 for a whole day is a bargain. The cafe is closed indefinitely, according to a crude sign, so don't expect to be fed and watered. We loved the views and the closeup contact with the white cliffs.
Peter C — Google review
It’s a really nice place for a summer’s day walk , however be prepared to take a pack lunch as the cafe wasn’t open when we went. Definitely somewhere to go before exploring Folkestone sea front where there has been a lot of work done to make it more family friendly.
FLOS 5 — Google review
Nice place in Dover with beach, rock pools and a coastal walk. Parking available but it does get full pretty quick so it’s just a case of your luck on the day. Small cafe on site but you’re better off packing food if you plan on staying for the day. You can catch fish there too so if you’re coming with kids bring your nets!
Sami R — Google review
A short wait at the traffic lights and we were allowed to enter the tunnel Single lane for cars and quite steep. Car parks well sign posted. There is a cafe and toilet facilities. Parking can be brought in small sessions or £2 for the whole day. Amazing views of cliffs and coast. Several looped footpaths and dog friendly too. Dogs must be on leads as there can be grazing animals. We'll Def be back for a longer walk
Kev W — Google review
An excellent place to reconnect with nature. Start at the blue watch house, read the poem on the door and explore the inside. Then follow the path and notice the wildflowers and the buzz of the bees. It's a pollinator haven. If you can, go down to the beach, it's particularly nice at low tide. Practicalities - there are decent bathrooms, a small exhibition space and picnic benches. Parking is £2in cash, you can also use the RingGo app.
Micha N — Google review
We definitely enjoyed this easy coastal walk at Samphire Hoe. This was our second option after failing to find a parking space in Folkestone! I’m glad we decided to go here instead. The views are amazing! Some people can walk along the Sea wall where you will find couple of people fishing in that area. Others can follow the gravel path to the the beach. We did the latter. There is an area along the beach further down (toward Folkestone) which I think is a nudist beach - we didn’t go as far 🙈 but overall, it was such a lovely place for a quick walk with beautiful views. Samphire Hoe is part of the Geo Park together with the white cliffs of Calais in France. We had binoculars with us, so we saw those white cliffs across the English Channel. We also spotted some butterflies and birds like cormorants and probably some starlings.
Faith 2 — Google review
An Absolute Must-Visit! A true hidden gem with a dramatic entrance through a cliff tunnel leading to stunning sea views. Parking is a bargain at £2.50 for the day (free for disabled visitors) and can be paid by coin or the RingoApp, with free WiFi provided to help you connect. The main trail to the beautiful shingle beach is scenic and full of wildlife but can be uneven. For easier access, a separate path from the overflow car park is available but has a steep final hill. With toilets and picnic spots on-site, it's perfect for a simple, wonderful day out. We loved it!

Steak house
Nestled in a charming location, The Plough Beefeater is a delightful pub-style chain that offers an enticing menu featuring grilled meats and international favorites like fajitas. It's the perfect spot for enjoying quality time with loved ones over a satisfying meal. Diners have raved about their experiences, highlighting dishes such as the Surf and Turf, which combines delicious steak with prawns, alongside beautifully baked salmon fillet drizzled in garlic oil dressing.
The food was excellent, tasty, fresh and hot! I had Chicken & Rib combo, my wife had a Sirloin (cooked to perfection). The lady who welcomed us when we arrived was very friendly and welcoming. She told us who would be looking after us at our table. (Paris) Paris was an excellent host, very friendly and kept checking on us in a timely manner... Our food was excellent and the service was outstanding... Thank-you
Terry K — Google review
To start with positive, our server Theresa was absolutely a star. Very attentive and polite, lovely all around. Food itself also was decent in of itself, but main issue we had was they were clearly understaffed with the workers clearly under a lot of pressure. As such we waited 50 minutes before getting our first bite and although staff tried their best and were apologetic enough (not their fault obviously) at prices you are paying its not good enough. Unfortunately a lot of the beef eaters and other chains are similar with cutting costs on staffing leading to poorer quality experiences. Breakfast likewise had a lovely server with tasty food, but didn't get to experience the unlimited side of things as they are just so busy even with just less than half restaurant filled.
Jon T — Google review
The food was really disappointing. We ordered a medium steak but got it completely overcooked and well-done. The burgers were burned and dry. Definitely not what we expected
Marian N — Google review
Filthy. Dirty. Carpets haven't been cleaned in years. Table tops are sticky. The Inn Keeper has a lousy attitude. Food is mediocre at best, the fries and onion rings sit in a puddle of oil which probably hasn't been changed in quite some time. And the place has a terrible smell. Don't know how this place hasn't been closed by the Health Department. The wait staff are great though...
Hugh R — Google review
Was there for two nights (Staying at the Premier Inn next door). Had Stephanie as our waitress on the first night - what a fabulous person. Gave great service and very friendly and helpful. Lucy on our second night and also a fabulous waitress. Great atmosphere, good food, if a little expensive. Well worth the service and food.

Been wanting to come but was fully booked last time, we finally got a table and Came for dinner tonight and the whole experience was lovely! Stephanie was our server and she was amazing and polite.. food was really nice and toilets smelt really clean. Will definitely be back when we are in the area

I had a fantastic experience at Beefeater thanks to our waitress, Emma. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Emma made sure everything was perfect throughout the meal checking in just the right amount without being intrusive. Her positive attitude and genuine smile really stood out and made the evening feel special. It’s rare to come across such great service these days! Big thanks to Emma for going above and beyond she’s a real credit to the Beefeater team.

Emma looked after my Family in a professional and caring manner. We ordered three Sunday dinners and my Wife has an egg allergy hence no Yorkshire pudding and Emma ensured that her dinner was served first keeping it away from eggs. All our meals were served hot and delicious. Thank you for a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Pub
Restaurant
The Coastguard Pub is a charming and unpretentious establishment located beneath the White Cliffs, offering a British menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. Situated in St Margarets Bay near Dover, this seafront pub provides stunning views of the Channel and the cliffs. Visitors can enjoy a varied menu of light bites and traditional pub meals, with a focus on seafood. The pub also offers outdoor seating with panoramic views, making it an ideal spot to relax after a day at the beach.
What a fabulous find! We ventured out on a lovely walk, 7 of us and 3 dogs, we walked from Kingsdown to St Margaret’s Bay and stumbled across The Coastguard pub, popped in for a drink and loved it so much we booked a table for lunch a few days later. On our return we were not disappointed, fabulous food in a great pub, the staff were awesome too. It’s located in the lovely bay and the terrace area offers great views and is a fantastic sun trap, even on the breezy days. I would definitely recommend visiting this lovely pub.

Good pub with a fantastic location on St Margaret's Bay at the foot of the famous Dover white cliffs. I had the pork belly Sunday roast which was well cooked and very tasty. Decent pint of Master Brew cask ale as well. The kids were happy with the kids menu. There's a car park outside the pub but it was full when we visited so we used the large pay and display car park next door. Service was accommodating and even though we were an hour late to join the rest of our party thanks to an accident on the M20 they kept our table with no problem at all.

A lovely pub with delicious food. It was warm and welcoming. We used the facilities as we have a campervan and they kindly allow over night parking if you have a meal. Sleeping so close to the sea was lovely and out granddaughter enjoyed breakfast on the beach the next morning. Highly recommend this place but you need to book in advance as they can only accommodate 5 vehicles overnight.

Great pub in a lovely location, first time we have visited the pub as staying in Walmer. Lovely walk to get to the pub along the cliffs. Turned up at 11:45 and all tables were booked inside for a Sunday. Could only eat outside which was fine as a sunny October day. Staff were polite and engaging. Food was good, would like to try the fish and chips and a Sunday roast another time. Great spot in the sunshine. Thank you. 🙏

Yes! I’m definitely craving for fish and chips and I went to the right place after a good hike! It tastes really fresh. Plus the pub is just by the seaside and I love how the interior of the place is designed-very creative look and feels like you are inside a ship. The area actually does not only give you a pub vibe but a restaurant too❤️

Visited this Pub Restaurant for drinks only. Beautiful location. Very narrow road to get to Bay. St Margaret's Bay. Has a lovely chat with a young American girl who wanted to say hello to our dog. She was enchanting. Since we have been home I have learnt that the white house and buildings at the end of the Bay was used by Ian Fleming to write James Bond stories. Well worth visiting.

Decent Shepherd Neame pub near the Kent coastal path at St Margaret's Bay. The pub is about three hours walk from Deal Railway Station and about one hour from Martin Mill Station. The Coastguard is located under the white cliffs and overlooks the sea where ferries can be seen crossing between England and France. Only one cask beer on handpump when I visited. Lots of outdoor seating some of it covered.

Family restaurant
The family restaurant Duke of York Brewers Fayre is a popular chain with classic dishes and international favourites. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, with each night offering an all you can eat Chef's Counter with a different theme. The staff are helpful and accommodating, and the food is delicious.
The restaurant had almost no redeeming features, decor in extreme need of attention, an overall gloomy feel. It almost felt dirty though I'm quite sure it's been cleaned. The food was average to under whelming, there is much better food available elsewhere. If your staying at the premier inn and want a drink it's worth it beyond that probably not. One thing that made it all worth while was the staff. Each and every one of them an absolute asset to the company for that reason and that reason alone I gave 4 rather than 2 stars.
Lady D — Google review
The food was nice, but it took nearly one hour to get meal. While waiting, the seats were uncomfortable and cuts to the fabric. Table was sticky and dirty, with food between the tables and on the floor. Noticed the staff were not cleaning the tables properly. Also hand rails were dirty and noticed other guests were complaining to them self about the place
Gary F — Google review
Popped in for a quick bite to eat on a Sunday evening. I know its cheap and cheerful and expectations should be according. However theres no need for it to be this tatty and the steak was tough and had a wierd taste to it. I decided to act on the side of caution and leave the meat as it didnt taste fresh. I wouldnt return again as its another UK chain gone to the rags.
Tristan P — Google review
The staff were brilliant, food wasn't good portion wise £6:19 for 4 batterd prawns and sauce om a plate with nothing else. Portions small but quality was ok, peas were cold chips and steaks alright. Place is shabby. My brother in law said were not coming back here again! It used to be better the price is low I guess but it needs improvement portions and decore. The staff were very nice all 3 of them?
Del W — Google review
Good for an all you can eat breakfast when you have children with you as 2 kids eat free with every adult. The sausages are good and bacon not bad at all. Poached eggs need some improvement. I wouldn't come without the kids eating free, but represents good value for money with the children, if you don't need anything fancy. Toilets are basic and tired looking now - refurbishment needed ideally. Staff are always friendly and happy to help. Kids are welcomed. We sat in a booth which felt private and cosy.
Ruth T — Google review
Sadly the cleanliness of the tables and chairs, was a disappointment. With the easy spread of germs and illnesses, I feel hygiene should be much better. From the entrance door and handle being dirty, to the tables which were sticky. The upholstery on the chair backs where people hands go, was dirty and greasy. This is unavoidable and disgraceful. Some chairs were damaged. I’m sorry about this, as it was always my choice of local pub diners. Not now. It needs a deep clean, not just a basic one.

Absolutely disgusting with the level of service we have just received from start to finish there was my table of 4 and another family in tonight the barmen was rude and awkward made ordering very difficult that was just the start of it once we received the food my mums food had some sort of plastic in it we ain’t unreasonably people and understand packaging and things happen, we sent it back for a new order to be made for the waitress to show her stroppy side ignoring us when we was talking taking it off the table, only when I pulled her up on her manners and said “yes that’s ok” that she realised what she was doing I was actually feeling for her up until that point as I understand as a waitress she can’t control what comes out the kitchen which then effects her table, but i quickly realised she clearly needs training she offered us dessert as I was loud enough to let her know I’d be reviewing our experience, our desserts come out and there are talking about us loudly giggling like two school kids for the barman to ring the last orders at 9:30 when the place doesn’t close till 11pm we got where we wasn’t wanted and left when we had full intention of having an evening out and spending Money in. There, so we took our money elsewhere, even when we was leaving they both stood behind the bar and smirked as us with no thank you or goodnight clearly thinking that they was getting an early close both terrible for this business giggling like two children at customers expense both bad for the reputation of this restaurant and clearly need training in hospitality if you want to keep your business open

Seated at a table in coldest bit of room. Relocated ourselves to a warm section where everyone else had been seated.table sticky, chairs in need of cleaning desperately. Waited 40 minutes for a burger and chips and a portion of cheesy chips. Other tables beng served that had come in after us. Food not particularly hot. Disappointed all round. The gin and tonic good. Coffee rank.

The Dover Patrol Restaurant & Bar is a family-friendly and accessible seafood restaurant and bar with a light, contemporary interior and terrace. The food is excellent, the service is fabulous, and the location perfect for watching the sun go down while enjoying your dinner.
Quick service, food was delicious and cooked well. Staff were friendly and attentive. Cocktails a little on the expensive side but tasted good. Good kids menu, serving large portions.

We were walking the boys (our dogs ) down the sea front, and walked past the Bella vita, a member of staff was sitting outside on his break, so we asked if dogs were welcome, to which the answer was yes 👍. So we decided to have something to eat. The food here is amazing, really good value and fresh. The service was really quick. James our server ( staff supervisor) was attentive to detail and made us feel really welcome, he's a credit to the restaurant. Highly recommend.

I love coming here for a relaxed dinner on a beautiful evening. The outdoor seating is perfect—fresh air, a view of the sunset, and a great place to enjoy mussels and wine with friends or family. It’s reasonably priced, close to the square, and there’s convenient street parking nearby. If you’re staying in the area, there are beach rentals just steps away. I definitely recommend stopping by the pier if you enjoy patio dining with a coastal vibe and golden hour views.

3 of us came here for lunch on a weekend. We were seated at a nice table with the view of the sea. As you can see from my pic, the view was beautiful! I really noticed how polite, professional and considerate the staff were and they were a young group - late teens/uni age maybe? It really made a difference to our experience. We ordered pizza, goats cheese salad, arancini and frittura di pesce mista. Everything was delicious and the prices very reasonable. Highly recommended!

A memorable spot—great food, gorgeous view, relaxed vibe, and that seaside ambience. Perfect for a date night, a family meal, or a pre‑ferry bite! The food was good 👍, the service was okay, we want both times already

Great spot on the marina with good views. The service was excellent- always had drinks and they were quick to remove our dirty dishes. We enjoyed the food, all fresh and tasty.

I deliver all the veg to this stunning restaurant. Placed in the centre of the harbour area, away from the ferries. It's upstairs panoramic view over the whole harbour and ferry terminal to the left ... are quite, truly beautiful. Even in a rough wind wet day ( this never happens of course 😉😊😊😊) .. the view looking out is really breath taking. The open plan seating area is really large and tables decently placed far enough apart that dining is very comfortable. Everything is cooked fresh and to a magnificent level. I feel sure that you would have difficulty in picking any kind of fault with your food choice. At the entrance to the restaurant is a good sized lift for people with troubles stepping up the two small flights of stairs to the dining area. Staff are incredibly friendly... not overly so ... as sometimes happens in other places. Over all ... this is a very fine, pleasant, friendly, welcoming place for truly good food.

Amazing place, the food is beyond my expectations, well presented and tastes good. The atmosphere is relaxing with a beautiful view and gentle live music. Honestly in 10 years in UK is the first Good 5 stars restaurant that I've been so far.

Cullins Yard is a unique nautical restaurant and boat bar located in an old converted shipyard in Dover marina. The restaurant boasts a rich history, featuring original fixtures from Cullins Yard, World War memorabilia, and intriguing sculptures. With an eclectic menu catering to all tastes, the establishment prides itself on serving quality fresh food prepared with daily supplies from local butchers and fishmongers.
Beautiful place! Cullins Yard has an amazing setup—truly one of a kind. You can feel the heart, effort, and rich history poured into the venue the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is something special and can’t be replicated. The service was excellent; we were served by a tall gentleman (unfortunately we didn’t catch his name), but his attentiveness stood out. The food was great overall—though the dessert looked better than it tasted. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the venue and would happily return.

You can’t come to the United Kingdom and not stop at a proper British pub! Culling Yard is a classic sea port pub. Great atmosphere, good food and the beer and drinks are spot on. I always have to get a pie, chips and a pint anytime I make it in. Cullins delivers! If you’re walking around by the Dover Sea Front, do yourself a favor and wander over for lunch or dinner and a drink. You won’t regret it. The service is great and the pub is perfect!

3 of us came here for lunch on a weekend. This place is decorated in the most amazing way, its like a museum! Love the indoor seating, there's also lots of seating outdoors. We shared fish and chips and a side of veg, all delicious! I can imagine this place being so cosy in the winter too so good for all year round! Will definitely stop by again when I visit Dover.

We’ve always been a fan of Cullins yard its atmosphere, it’s got a great outdoor area and the inside has enough to keep the eyes and mind busy. The offering of beers is good with nice European beers. The only flaw is the service and the portioning of the food. We had a bit of a ritual of when we are in town that we would go there sit in the sun and order fish and chips. The Cod is good but the sizes vary from order to order on our most recent visit we ordered the large Cod, when it showed up it was slight on the small size and the not many chips mostly hidden under the fish. The salad was tired. We highlighted to the waiting staff that there wasn’t much chips, they responded with that’s the portion. As we finished up we saw three customers food being delivered to their table the sheer size difference was very much noticeable we prompted the waitress to how could ours be considered a large when the one that just went past us had a larger considerably meatier piece of fish. She then gave us a response that was so undefinable that we couldn’t follow. What we considered might not be large by other large might be small. It was very hard to give a response to the waitress because it it didn’t make any sense what she said. The waitress continued by saying she couldn’t comment on the size of the portion as she didn’t make the dish. That in all honesty is an undermining the situation and shows a complete disregard for service. We all know waiting staff doesn’t cook the food and a simple we are sorry that you didn’t think the food portion size was not good enough and relaying to the kitchen/management would’ve gone a long way and would’ve been the end of the situation. It’s sad because overall we love cullens yard next time we will go for drinks only. I’ve included pics of our fish and the gents next to us fish.

Oh what a delicious meal I had at Cullens. It was a simple bangers and mash, but vegan. The flavour was excellent, and so very satisfying. It felt like home. The staff were welcoming and happy. My meal was served quite quickly.

Visited for food and drinks. I have updated my review as visited the restaurant again and thankfully the meal was great! I had the battered haddock and chips. The portion size was excellent, freshly cooked tasty and a great atmosphere in order to eat. The staff were attentive, and friendly. Will visit again!

The food was great overall—though the dessert looked better than it tasted. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the venue and would happily return. The restaurant’s food was absolutely delightful—each dish bursting with flavor and freshness. The presentation was elegant, and portions were satisfying. From appetizers to desserts, everything tasted authentic and well-seasoned. Service was quick and friendly, making the overall dining experience memorable and worth recommending to anyone who loves quality cuisine.
