The White Horse is a historic and award-winning public house dating back to 1365, offering a warm and cozy atmosphere where visitors can enjoy traditional home-cooked dishes. This pet-friendly establishment even features a #DogOfTheDay series on their Instagram for furry friends who visit with their owners. The pub serves local ales, gins, and a great selection of bar meals including options for vegans, vegetarians, and those with gluten-free dietary preferences from Tuesday to Saturday.
WOW!!!!! We LOVE this place! The food was amazing!!! Not your average pub food, this was ELEVATED pub food that could have come from a 5-star restaurant!!! And the service was very friendly and helpful! Our table had the fish and chips, mushroom risotto, house burger, bangers and mash, and the pan seared duck breast. I like duck a lot .. and this was THE MOST TENDER duck I have EVER EATEN, it was delicious! And the bangers and mash were excellent .. all the food was excellent!!! For dessert, I truly and honestly licked the bowl!!! I'm not big on sweets but the chocolate cremeux pistachio sauce honeycomb ice cream dessert was probably the best dessert I've EVER eaten! No joke and not exaggerating. At the time is this review, they were serving their Autumn Menu. All around the room we are in had people's times and dates of their channel crossing, we meet 2 people who had swam there channel! I hope that we will be back in Dover someday, I would love to go back and eat there again! ... and of course the beer was excellent too!

We came here for dinner on the recommendation of a local that we met on our train ride. She was spot on. The atmosphere was comfortable, the staff was friendly, the cider was delicious and the fish and chips were amazing! My husband and I who don’t eat large meals shared one and we were glad that we did. My only regret was that we did not have enough room for the toffee pudding.
Cinamyn M — Google review
One of the best Sunday Roasts I have ever had:) I have planned a day trip to Dover Castle and this is my lunch break stop - Roasted Pork Belly is amazing with the crispy skin and tendered juicy fat. The side is surprisingly good - normally the roast will be with roasted veggie but the cheese cauliflower amazed me!
Kitty C — Google review
The pub was warm and cozy, the Staff absolutely friendly, despite having plenty to do, they were always smiling and looking if everything was alright. Some Minor mishap with the dessert (Timing went wrong and my friends arrived earlier than mine) was no big Deal with everyone doing their best to bring it out as fast as possible. The food was absolutely delicious and arranged beautifully. I highly recommend this place!

Our party of 13 had the most wonderful meal that served as a family reunion after several decades. The atmosphere and the truly incredible food were much appreciated. Particular thanks to the talented chef. Thank you so much to all the staff at The White Horse, most especially Jayden for your wonderful service and thoughtfulness.

Just stopped in here for an evening meal across the road from the Travelodge where we are staying overnight en-route to France. Very enjoyable in all respects!
Kieran M — Google review
If you can find the White Horse, you can find Hubert Passage which leads up to the castle. I passed by Early so it was not open and was too weary on my return although there were good smells coming from within (food and beer)
Graham T — Google review
A classically great Pub & Restaurant! Recommended/highly suggested to make reservations if you plan to eat here, but had seating for drinks-only if you're a walk-in. The staff are really kind and funny (shout out to Jayden!) and the space was quaint and eclectic. Fish & chips were excellent, menu was diverse, and we will come back next time we're in Dover!

Excellent venue. Well designed. Only challenge is parking. Pop I. For a pint and a pie following Day trip to Dover Castle. Friendly service. Bar side is pay as you go. Great brews on tap.

What a lovely hidden gem. In town for 1 night and was recommended to eat here. Tucked away the place was super busy but staff were coping. No drama. Pizzas were great and hot, made to order. Great local ales on offer and staff were super friendly. Would return
Mark G — Google review
Great place. Plenty of craft ales and excellent pizzas. Only thing that let it down - there was only one staff behind the bar. It took ages to get drinks every time.
Graham B — Google review
Cycled from London today and planned to catch a train back. Without thinking, I ordered two pizzas and two amazing stouts (highly recommend if you love a good stout! 🍺). Then reality hit — we were short on time! ⏳ The team went above and beyond, rushing our order and even throwing in a pizza cutter so we could enjoy our food on the train. A+ hospitality and super tasty pizzas — absolute legends! 🙌🍕
Martina U — Google review
used to be amazing, feels like it’s lost its way a bit? their own beers always seem to be sold out, and it’s only really generic branded beers available now sadly, pizzas still look good
Joe W — Google review
Such a great venue. Great range of beers ales ciders and loads of other stuff I remain unaware of. Pizza are great too . If you want a beer and pizza night ... I don't know of anywhere better.
Julian M — Google review
Absolutely great find in Dover. The beers were smooth and the pizza was excellent. Brilliant value for money, quick and friendly service. You can also ask to get your favourite pints to be put in cans to take away. Dog friendly 🐶 Highly recommended!
Heidi V — Google review
Wonderful place. Real dilemma... They have a huge range of beers (cask and key keg) and normally I would work my way through a goodly number of halves. However, the first, 3.5% Dover Pale Ale is as fresh as you like and utterly delicious. Stick or twist? That’s the question. So many beers to try though...

Bar
The Phoenix Railway Social Club is a working men's social club with a cheap membership fee that is lively due to its large dancefloor, making it great space for larger parties. The club also has a parking area at the rear, an outside drinking area and a large screen for TV sports. There is also a darts skittles pool table and bingo on Thursday nights. A new play park is under construction and will open later this year.
Went to the club for a 30th birthday. Birthday girl looked like she was having a good time. And of course that's the important part. Food was plentiful. The drinks from the bar are an excellent price. It's just a pity about the smell. There is such a strong smell of mold in there....couldn't see any anywhere though. Will definitely go again and pop outside when I need to. Oh and there's bingo on ,on a Thursday. Happy days
Bev F — Google review
Booked the phoenix railway club to host my wedding reception we had the food buffet organised for us and hired the sweet cart and disco from the venue it was a perfect size for our 140 guests it also has a play area for the children in their garden all the staff was amazing and very helpful from the time of booking right through to the reception will definitely use again and highly recommend them

The Louis Armstrong is a Kent-based performing arts pub which boasts regular live music on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as jazz on Sunday evenings. They serve real ales and cider, with a range of hearty home cooked meals available every Wednesday. As always, friendly staff and fantastic beer make this one of the top pubs in the area.
Lovely building which has recently seen refurbishment and restoration to the exterior - once again a fine looking local pub hosting a variety of live music entertainment and in particular, Jazz on a Sunday evening. Update 2023 - once again the pub is starting to look shabby .. which is a shame.
Diane F — Google review
Comedy night with London based performers, Canterbury Tales, decor steeped in Jazz history of pub. Friendly and accommodating staff. It's my go to pub as a single lady.
Ruth H — Google review
I visited here today (Monday 18/09/2017) at about 13:30. I could see the TV was on...but despite trying both doors...I found them locked...no one answered them to allow entry? Won't be back. Luckily, 100m away is a fantastic pub, who actually open when they say so.
Robert P — Google review
A CAMRA pub in the Good Pub Guide, so expect good ale. There are normally four ales on tap, plus a couple of lagers. Cider is available both on tap and bottled including various fruits. Wednesday is home cooking night with good main meals for £5 and ale reduced to £2.50 (both correct at time of review 2017). A renouned location for music every weekend. Sunday night is always jazz night, Friday and Saturday have a varied mix of live music.
Sprinty N — Google review
Sweet sounds from great bands. User friendly rocked me last night and the band tonight were just getting started but i had to go. If you want a night out in Dover then i recomend The Louis Armstong 😀😀
Ray S — Google review
Legendary pub music venue in Dover. Some great bands appear here, like Hey Rudi, although the stage is not in the best location. There is a good range of well kept local real ales available.
Caroline0199 S — Google review
OK little pub. Went there on a live music evening and it was packed to the rafters!!! Left early as it was really to busy to move or stand in comfortably. Probably much nicer on a quiet evening.

Cullins Yard is a unique nautical restaurant and boat bar located in an old converted shipyard in Dover marina. The restaurant boasts a rich history, featuring original fixtures from Cullins Yard, World War memorabilia, and intriguing sculptures. With an eclectic menu catering to all tastes, the establishment prides itself on serving quality fresh food prepared with daily supplies from local butchers and fishmongers.
Beautiful place! Cullins Yard has an amazing setup—truly one of a kind. You can feel the heart, effort, and rich history poured into the venue the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is something special and can’t be replicated. The service was excellent; we were served by a tall gentleman (unfortunately we didn’t catch his name), but his attentiveness stood out. The food was great overall—though the dessert looked better than it tasted. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the venue and would happily return.
Obert C — Google review
You can’t come to the United Kingdom and not stop at a proper British pub! Culling Yard is a classic sea port pub. Great atmosphere, good food and the beer and drinks are spot on. I always have to get a pie, chips and a pint anytime I make it in. Cullins delivers! If you’re walking around by the Dover Sea Front, do yourself a favor and wander over for lunch or dinner and a drink. You won’t regret it. The service is great and the pub is perfect!
Jason S — Google review
Excellent food and a great ambiance! We truly had a good time here. The service was fantastic, and the restaurant offers a really good variety of food options. Highly recommend!
Ulaas J — Google review
3 of us came here for lunch on a weekend. This place is decorated in the most amazing way, its like a museum! Love the indoor seating, there's also lots of seating outdoors. We shared fish and chips and a side of veg, all delicious! I can imagine this place being so cosy in the winter too so good for all year round! Will definitely stop by again when I visit Dover.
Naomi — Google review
We’ve always been a fan of Cullins yard its atmosphere, it’s got a great outdoor area and the inside has enough to keep the eyes and mind busy. The offering of beers is good with nice European beers. The only flaw is the service and the portioning of the food. We had a bit of a ritual of when we are in town that we would go there sit in the sun and order fish and chips. The Cod is good but the sizes vary from order to order on our most recent visit we ordered the large Cod, when it showed up it was slight on the small size and the not many chips mostly hidden under the fish. The salad was tired. We highlighted to the waiting staff that there wasn’t much chips, they responded with that’s the portion. As we finished up we saw three customers food being delivered to their table the sheer size difference was very much noticeable we prompted the waitress to how could ours be considered a large when the one that just went past us had a larger considerably meatier piece of fish. She then gave us a response that was so undefinable that we couldn’t follow. What we considered might not be large by other large might be small. It was very hard to give a response to the waitress because it it didn’t make any sense what she said. The waitress continued by saying she couldn’t comment on the size of the portion as she didn’t make the dish. That in all honesty is an undermining the situation and shows a complete disregard for service. We all know waiting staff doesn’t cook the food and a simple we are sorry that you didn’t think the food portion size was not good enough and relaying to the kitchen/management would’ve gone a long way and would’ve been the end of the situation. It’s sad because overall we love cullens yard next time we will go for drinks only. I’ve included pics of our fish and the gents next to us fish.
Johnny L — Google review
Wonderful in every way. They had a brand new menu with excellent vegan options. Service was warm and prompt. The view is serene and scenic. Vegan meatballs were lovely and the portion size was generous. Highly recommended for vegans in Dover!
Rajat V — Google review
Oh what a delicious meal I had at Cullens. It was a simple bangers and mash, but vegan. The flavour was excellent, and so very satisfying. It felt like home. The staff were welcoming and happy. My meal was served quite quickly.
Wendy M — Google review
Visited for food and drinks. I have updated my review as visited the restaurant again and thankfully the meal was great! I had the battered haddock and chips. The portion size was excellent, freshly cooked tasty and a great atmosphere in order to eat. The staff were attentive, and friendly. Will visit again!

The Eight Bells is a cozy English pub located in the town's shopping precinct, offering a wide range of reasonably priced food and drinks. The pub features a long bar, ample seating, and a raised restaurant area. It also has an enclosed outdoor seating area with views of the town center and St Mary's Church. The name 'The Eight Bells' is derived from the church bells opposite the pub. The establishment hosts two beer festivals annually as well as a summer cider festival.
Nice place, cosy and relaxing. Staff are always around and happy to help, the food is good as well and the beer selection also includes lots of choices.

Great staff, quick table service via app orders. It was full pack because one of the busiest pubs in Dover. Friendly atmosphere. Bit noisy but all depend on your mood how you get it. Like traditional interior look.
Win T — Google review
Really enjoyed this pub. A wide variety on their food menu. Order on line or at the bar. Small and large portions are available. A good variety of local draft beers on tap. Plus plenty to choose from in their can/bottle selection. Friendly service as they let me taste a couple of the beers on tap. Also a large and clean restroom for patrons. A good experience while visiting Dover.
Jeff S — Google review
Myself and my wife came here for breakfast before travelling home. Although it was busy, what we ordered came out quicker than we expected. My wife was impressed with the fancy coffee machine, that dispensed cold coffee, having had 4 cups before I had even finished my first latte. (She drinks decaffeinated.) Friendly staff - Daisy was extremely helpful and attentive throughout our visit. Located very close to a car park. All the food that came out was freshly cooked and well presented on our plates. If/when we were to come back to the area, we will 100% be coming back again. Other branches/locations should follow their example, as this was such a good experience overall.
Dean O — Google review
Stopped in here after driving down from Liverpool on our way to Germany (31/7/25) Arrived at 10pm and were greeted by a smiling, polite and very helpful young lady whose name I forgot to ask. We ordered food and drinks and took a seat in the quiet but friendly atmosphere. Food arrived quickly and was delicious, hot and well presented. A lovely short (and alcohol free) visit before our ferry. Absolutely nothing negative to say, very happy customers.

The Eight Bells is everything you want from a Wetherspoons and more. Great atmosphere, plenty of space, quick service, and prices that make you wonder why you’d go anywhere else. The food and drinks are always spot on, and the staff keep things running smoothly even when it’s busy. Honestly, I wish this was my local – I’d happily drive 5 hours just to spend an evening here. A proper gem of a pub.
Will M — Google review
What a lovely Wetherspoons.. The staff were super friendly, attentive, talkative, polite and very nice. (Especially, the man and woman behind the bar, who I think said they had known each other 9 years) they were so welcoming, to the point before heading home we had to return for another drink. We were so surprised to see a pint of Doom Bar for £2.10 and free refill Tea/Coffee for £1.04. The ladies toilets were up a couple of stairs and clean. The overall bar was clean and as with most Spoons a little dark inside. The bar was clean with a great display of drinks. There were some great pictures and frames etc on the walls. We also tried the new Mozart White Chocolate Cream Liqueur.. totally recommend this drink. All in all a lovely Wetherspoons, we would definitely visit if back in the area. The ales poured & settled well and tasted great. We could not have asked for more.
Star N — Google review
We visited the 8 bells for a Sunday brunch, they serve breakfast from 8am to 12am - breakfast deals are really cheap compared with the rest of the menu, totally worthy. We chose a vegetarian breakfast, mushroom Benedict and one coffee, as coffee allows refills we shared it. It was 10,81£ for 2, and portions are good size, so we recommend it, also a lot of other vegetarian options (sweet and savoury) and some vegan options, which I always appreciate. Quality of the food was good, nothing surprising but considering the price it met the expectations. Only negative point for me is that decoration is kind of dark and with low daylight and I prefer brighter places, but that’s something personal. Service was quick, although you need to order at the bar, but the they bring the food to the table.

Located near the iconic Dover Castle, The Archer Pub & Chinese offers a delightful dining experience. Indulge in succulent roast beef, crispy roast pork, flavorsome lamb, and veggie nut roast served with all the trimmings. If you're seeking an escape from touristy seaside dining, this pub provides traditional favorites along with pizzas, burgers, and BBQ. Enjoy live entertainment or participate in the monthly pub quiz while savoring a pint.
Visited this evening it’s my third time to this establishment. As someone who runs a chain of country pubs, in high recommends The archer is a fabulous restaurant and bar. Morgan and the team are brilliant. Each time I’ve come it’s always been welcoming. The service is brilliant, fresh cooked to order food, large selection of drinks. Great banter and friendly staff is always a plus. We will be back. Thank you Morgan ❤️❤️❤️ please don’t let me order as much next time 🤣 legends

Don't know what's happened to the Chinese food lately but today's was awful. It was like everything was chucked in the same uncle benz sause and frozen. I've never had a chop suey that came in gravy. And in all the food the meat was almost a slimy congealed texture. The chicken balls were just mushy and ineadable. Previously left a good review but after this experience will unlikely to try again. Sorry but I know you can do better.
Oliver — Google review
Weird situation here. Pub in front and Chinese restaurant in back. Suspect separate ownership. But they lack coordination. Chinese restaurant has no drink menu but they serve drinks from the pub. What kind of beer do you have? They have no idea. Ordered starter and entree. But entree comes first. This happens a lot at computerized chain restaurants but my order was given to the woman who seemed to be the owner here so no excuse. Would have knocked them down another star but food was somewhat tasty. Although Chicken Chop Suey was really just chicken with chinese onions and bean sprouts. But it filled me up and no major disasters.

First time visiting this lovely 4 star hotel on the clean pebble beach front. The Dover Marina spa hotel has a few trendy restaurants on site. Unfortunately The Chophouse restaurant is closed for renovations. We enjoyed a nice evening meal and a few cocktails from the bar on the terrace patio area, which were lovely. Staff here are attentive, friendly & can't do enough to help, especially Dennis & José who made sure we were comfortable and everything correct. Other outstanding staff with explimarly impeccable customer service skills worthy of mentioning is Cha from the Churchill Bar and restaurant & chefs Daniel Kingsley. The afternoon teas dainty presentation is impressive. Fresh & tasty selection of cakes, finger sandwiches & a fresh clotted cream & jam scone which turned out to be quite filling! See attached photos. We stayed four nights in room 116 a very comfortable & spacious room on the first floor. We appreciated the air conditioning throughout during the current heatwave. There was an issue with the bedroom AC not working on day 3 but it was quickly repaired. On day one there were fire alarms going off which meant lifts didn't work so we had to walk up a couple flights of stairs with our luggage! Only two tiny lifts and old staircases so tried to avoid the lifts during check-in and checkout times. I had two rejuvenating relaxing 60 min spa massages over two days, from Katie & Donna who gave professional treatments. Check out Groupon first for afternoon tea & massage special offers as unfortunately booking spa offers directly worked out more expensive for me by £20+! Sadly their steam room was broken the whole time I stayed (closed due to heatstroke!). I was disappointed as steam room was my first preference. Just a short stroll to the town centre, on flat streets no steep hills good for those with less physical mobility. Limited chain stores, all basics covered. Overall, a nice first staycation experience. I will be returning! Thank you 😊 🙏

Had the most perfect caesar salad and bottle of wine here with some live music! Couldn’t believe I was in Dover! Jose was attentive and nothing was too much trouble! Made our experience 10/10!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “The experience was excellent from start to finish. The receptionist at Churchill Bar and Lounge was especially outstanding — very friendly, attentive, and made me feel genuinely welcome. Service and atmosphere were top-class with beautiful sea views. Highly recommend!” 🌊🍸✨ For sure I will be back with family next time visit .

I had only a drink but Jose was very welcoming and explained the drinks list thoroughly. I'll definitely come back to try their food because the atmosphere was great.

Very nice welcome and professional service from Rob. The bar area is elegant (for Dover standards). Rose wine (£28 per bottle) was actually quite good. The lighting needs work as it was far too bright. Shame the men in grey suits (from same demographic) created an old-school image that didn’t match what they seem to strive for.

The Red Lion is a traditional pub in Dover with a large garden and outdoor seating. It offers hearty real ales, classic pub fare, and great value for money. The pub has its own darts, skittles and football teams as well as a large TV that broadcasts sports events.
Spent a weak here. This place is a hidden gem such a community atmosphere even in the day time, there's a happy family vibe here. The love and care put into this pub is evident in all aspects of this place such a great vibe, no trubble just laughter. And the food is amazing the chef definitely takes pride in what he dose!

The food here was fantastic. Very fresh, good portions and reasonably priced. We paid £36 for two mains of seafood paella and haddock & a large chips, and sweet was additional. Went on a Friday night, it was a local pub, it was vibrant, busy, and many locals enjoying themselves. Service was good, although slow, because it was so busy. We will go back again, this time, to try out their Sunday roast.

This pub has a friendly crowd and a welcoming owner. He keeps a broad set of ciders on the menu along with a few beers and liquors. If you're looking for a relaxed place with good company, you'd do well to give this place a visit.

I love this place, I try to go whenever I'm in Dover, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the seating is comfortable, the range of cider is great and even has a beer garden. It's also the only place I've ever been to that has a cider slushie drink machine! One of the best places to drink in Kent, highly recommend.
David M — Google review
Good range of beers available and kept well. Quiet, which was a shame - we were the only customers - although the size probably wouldn't lend itself to a larger group and a quiet conversation at the same time. Definitely worth visiting on what is now becoming a "crawl" of breweries, bars and micropubs serving good quality ales in Dover

The Staggered Inn is a charming micro pub located in Kent, offering a wide selection of locally sourced ciders as well as beers from different regions. The establishment also houses the Dovers Breakwater Brewery & Taproom, which not only serves as a brewery but also features a wood-fired pizza restaurant. Visitors praise the friendly and welcoming atmosphere created by the host, Jay, and appreciate the character of the small yet inviting space.
Popped in for a swift 1/2 of the local ale and ended up staying a lot longer than anticipated! Decor is beautiful and when you look around its all stag themed (Which is clearly synced with the name of the pub) Amazing selection of ciders too and all reasonably priced. A warm friendly welcome from both landlord and landlady when she popped in later on with homemade sausage rolls which may I add were to die for!!!! Will be back for sure

Cracking little micropub tucked away on the High Street, about a ten-minute stroll from the train station. Got a genuinely warm welcome from the fella behind the bar (wish I’d caught his name) — proper friendly. Inside, there are four or five tables by the window overlooking the street, plus a few stools at the bar. Out back, there’s a sunny little beer garden with a handful of tables — perfect spot to relax. The cider selection was top-notch: at least six different choices on tap. I had a pint of raspberry followed by a pint of mango — both just £4 a pop. When I commented on the price, the barman smiled and said, “I know what you're going to say. It's cheap.” Spot on. There were also several IPAs on offer, if that's more your thing. All in all, a proper gem — well worth a visit.
Jeremy P — Google review
Lovely welcoming micropub with a selection of three cask ales available. They cater for cider drinkers too but I came just for the beer. The beer is very reasonably priced. At £4 a pint it is cheaper than the two other pubs I visited. I will come again on my next visit to Dover.
James C — Google review
Jay is a friendly, old school landlord who knows his craft and has a great range of exceptionally well kept ales and an even longer list of local ciders. My good friend, who lives in Dover, has been telling me for ages what a great little pub this is and I wasn't disappointed when he finally took me there. I just wished I had this kind of place on my doorstep.

It frequently holds special offers such as curry nights, pie nights, fish and chip nights and steak nights, all of which provide great food at good value. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a pleasant evening out.
Service was outstanding, incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was delivered quickly and looked and tasted outstanding. The spicy burger was huge and packed with flavour and the skin on fries were crispy and melt in the middle. And the burger sauce made everything taste a hundred times better. The meals were affordable and the pitchers tasted delicious and were a good deal. The Salted Caramel Cookie Brownie was gooey and decadent with a light vanilla ice cream on the side, a good portion size and a delicious dessert. A great thank you to our server, Ryan, who made us feel welcome and maintained an upbeat attitude throughout the experience.

Food is good, very good. I am a huge fan of the burgher so I order it most of the time. Is a cosy place, when you seat there you will just lay back and relax. Even when the place is full is never too loud and you can have a normal conversation without shouting. At list twice a month we are there and just enjoy a nice meal and some chill. Service is always fast and the staff is always smiling and nice. Strongly recommend this place.
The D — Google review
The carvery at The Rock Rose offers excellent value for money – the food is well-priced for what you get. The choice of meat is cooked beautifully, tender and flavourful, and there’s a good choice of vegetables to go with it. The atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly, and staff are generally friendly and helpful. At busy times (especially Sundays) there can be queues and the quality of some sides like roast potatoes can vary a little, but overall it’s a solid and satisfying carvery experience that’s well worth a visit.
Chris M — Google review
Was a nice quiet evening. The only issue to me, it's an self order place lacks the personal touch of a waiter or waitress. The bowls for the starter were rusted, and in contact with the food, a bit of a food safety issue. In general, the food was average, not enough sauces on the plate, but it tasted ok. Would go again but wouldn't be near the top of any list as a must go place.

Nestled in the heart of Market Square, The Elephant and Hind is a vibrant pub that has been a cornerstone of the Dover community for nearly 300 years. This lively establishment was formed from two historic pubs, the Walmer Castle Inn and Duchess of Kent, creating a welcoming atmosphere filled with music and camaraderie. With glass doors that open onto the square, it seamlessly blends indoor comfort with outdoor charm.
After struggling to find a dog friendly pub serving food midday, we were warmly welcomed and sat on a nice quiet table away from the bar. All of the staff were so friendly and accommodating! The chef even came out and the service was so friendly and personal. I couldn’t recommend it enough. The Texan smash burger and chocolate fudge cake were excellent and well priced. The dogs had many treats brought out from the kitchen staff and the whole experience was so enjoyable and warming. Thank you to Sam, Daisy and Matt.

We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, cheerful, and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious – full of flavor and beautifully presented. We asked our server for recommendations for both vegetarian and chicken dishes, and they gave us excellent suggestions that turned out to be just perfect. Everything we tried was spot on! What made the experience even better was the service. Our server was incredibly kind, joyful, and attentive. They made us feel right at home with their friendly attitude and really enhanced the whole dining experience. It’s rare to come across someone who clearly enjoys their job and goes the extra mile to make guests feel special. The happy, relaxed vibe of the restaurant, paired with the great food and outstanding service, made for a truly memorable visit. We’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal and a positive atmosphere!

Came here for fish and chips by the ocean. Service was great. Really nice interior. Fish and chips came out warm and fresh. Fries were some of the best I've had. The mushy peas were interesting - not my preference but my sister enjoyed them. The calamari was brilliant. I ordered the cod. Really nice fry on it. Fish was flaky and a bit bland but I've got very high standards with what I expect. Overall, this is a great spot for British fish and chips by the ocean.

After a long hiking trip across the white cliffs we decided to have lunch locally before returning to London. Naturally we wanted an authentic fish and chip place. After a Google search we settled on Wheelers. The restaurant is lovely, clean and welcoming. Parking is available directly in front of the premises. We were greeted by friendly waitresses who took our orders of Haddock & Chips. It was by far the best fish & chips I've ever tasted. The fish was perfectly cooked, not greasy just golden brown with a light crunch. The chips were hand cut with the skin on, again not greasy and cooked to perfection. The homemade tartare sauce was divine as were the mushy peas. We were hugely impressed and will definitely come back!

With its picturesque beer garden featuring a gentle stream and ample seating, it’s an ideal spot for families to unwind. I've been going to The Fox since I was a teenager 40+ years ago so it holds a special place in my heart. Although I've now moved away from the area, it's always nice to pop in when I can. This charming spot is conveniently located near various eateries, including those serving traditional Turkish dishes. Guests often rave about the welcoming atmosphere at nearby hostels that offer cozy accommodations with private bunk beds featuring curtains for added privacy. The facilities are well-maintained, providing clean bathrooms segregated by gender—a detail appreciated by many visitors.
Stayed in the hostel! I planned to arrive at 10pm but my bus was an hour late. The owner stayed up for me without notice and was so friendly and efficient. The place is super cool! Clean and comfortable. Fast wifi, big washroom and shower that was clean and very homey. I would stay here for the atmosphere alone but the great service and amenities are the icing on the cake :))

Seems beautiful from the outside, but it's very much a hostel in a cramped old building. It does the job, as the beds were good, but the shared bathroom was not a good experience. Pretty sure the person that checked us in was drunk/high af.

Didn't visit the bar, just stayed at the hostel above. Here I was warmly welcomed and shown around. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and private with a curtain. Each bed had its own lamp but unfortunately no socket. There were sockets distributed in the room. There was fast free WiFi throughout the house. The bathroom was big and clean. Overall I had a wonderful undisturbed stay. I can only recommend!

The bar was welcoming but unfortunately, as like most smaller pubs, was quiet which is unfortunate as the landlord is a welcoming chap as is the staff who work with him would have loved to try the food but having my 6 year old who got hungry on our journey down was forced to stop en route but maybe next time.

Arrived much later than our planned 2330 hrs time but still received a warm welcome. Managed to find a space for our bicycles too. A comfortable bed and organised facilities. It would be good to stay a bit longer next time. Bring ear plugs - it is in the middle of Dover.

Lovely and clean hostel with seperate bedrooms for men and women. Free use of lockers. Cozy bunkbeds with curtains for privacy. The city center and castle are within walking reach. If you're seeking for an affordable place to stay for the night, this is a good choice.

Lively friendly pub, a proper drinking pub. They don't serve food but I arrived on a darts match night so the landlord haf laid on pizza & they generously invited me to tuck in. I'd already eaten but it was a much appreciated gesture. The hostel was pretty good, generous sized bunk beds with clean sheets & a curtain for privacy. The shared bathroom shower was a good size & clean. As a place to catch a few hours kip before catching a ferry it was perfect, especially considering the price. Great value, definitely would use again.

Dover Marina offers unparalleled views of the White Cliffs and the English Channel, making it a must-visit destination in Kent. The Best Western Plus Dover Marina Hotel & Spa is an ideal place to stay for exploring local attractions or enjoying a traditional Afternoon Tea with a sea view. Children can marvel at the impressive boats in the marina. Boasting enthusiastic staff and excellent facilities, this marina is popular among boating enthusiasts for activities such as sailing and fishing.
Had to call into Dover Marina on Thursday afternoon after picking up a fishing net on our port prop near Dungeness. They lifted us first thing Friday morning and we were back in the water shortly after 9am. Have to say their staff were brilliant - all very enthusiastic about their work and the marina itself. Was astonished how nice the setting was. Very friendly in the office too giving advice on local drinking & eating places. Many thanks to all there!

As an east coast resident I’ve been visiting Dover by boat for many years. The new marina is brilliant, but best of all are the staff - each unfailingly efficient and helpful. The facilities are kept immaculately clean and everything works as it should. The town of Dover is worth exploring and a visit to Dover Castle is a must. Swimming from the nearby beach is great fun when conditions permit.

The marina is nice and 24-hour accessible. Showers are painfully hot and maybe dangerously hot. There is a washing machine for the marina, it is out of order. Spoke to the staff about this, they were very helpful. Showed me another washing machine and said they were aware of the too hot showers and would look into it.
Eelko L — Google review
Fantastic marina with incredibly helpful staff who met us at the pontoon to assist with mooring, connect power and water if needed, and generally gave us a warm welcome. We felt truly welcomed, and their welcome materials were even more impressive and thoroughly prepared 😊 The only downside is their bathroom facilities, which have clear room for improvement. The shower cabins are too small, there’s little ventilation, and the fixed showerheads offer no option to adjust the water temperature—a bit of a letdown, but everything was spotlessly clean 😊 Dover VTS was likewise fantastic—extremely professional and, not least, clear and precise in their instructions over VHF during both arrival and departure. Border Protection was also fantastic. They met us about 10–12 miles before reaching Dover and asked if everything was okay on board and whether we had completed the arrival registration online—which we hadn’t, but managed to do at the last moment (thank you, that was a great help) 😊 Once we docked in Dover, we were greeted by a team from the marine police, customs, and immigration, who were incredibly friendly and made the arrival even more memorable—even though one of the customs officers couldn’t really think of any reason to visit Dover, other than maybe to see Dover Castle 😎

The two good beers had run out so had to make do with an Amstel, don't know if it was just where I was sitting but the pungent smell of the toilets was drifting towards my table. The barmaid was fairly friendly and by the sound of it was run off her feet which probably explains why my arms were sticking to the table as there probably wasn't enough time to clean them. Maybe on a different day I would've had a better experience?
Roy F — Google review
Being disabled, diabetic, walking with a stick and other ailments. I desperately needed the toilet and so I went in here and asked if I could use the toilet. Yes some landlady or barmaid said, but put some money in the charity box. I was upset by this. People should think 🤔

I will never go to this pub ever again as a bar person for 18 years. Witnessing men beating a lady and getting away with it is not acceptable.its disgraceful shame on the police for doing naff all As for the bar staff you really need to get another job very unwelcoming and clicky. The landlords will never earn enough money with sour faced bar staff

Classic pub, cheap beers and a pool table. Literally my happy place. Friendly staff and locals alike.

Nestled just off Worthington Street, The Lanes Micropub is a charming and inviting spot that feels more like a cozy living room than a traditional pub. This family-run establishment, managed by the friendly duo Debbie and Keith Lanes, boasts an impressive selection of five real ales primarily sourced from local Kentish microbreweries, alongside over ten ciders served directly from their temperature-controlled cellar. Guests can also enjoy wines, mead, and soft drinks all produced in Kent.
The Lanes, a Family run Micropub. Debbie and Keith Lanes. Serving English Ales, Gin, Cider. Free House. A friendly run Pub, always ready to top up your glass. Voted Best Micropub 2018. No phones allowed, no smoking, no swearing, (it’s a pound in the charity box if you do) and no TV. You’re here for the friendly atmosphere and the beer.

Very friendly pub with great service from the owner. A real ale pub with a good selection of beers, ciders and lots of charm. Enjoyed the atmosphere chatting to the locals. Will visit again if in Dover.

googled things to do in dover as we were there for the night before going on to calais the next day as foot passengers.this pub had great reviews so we sought it out. when we first walked through the door i thought we were in somebody's front room, small place with a couple of tables and some easy chairs, no bar. was greeted by the owners who fetch your drinks once you have made a choice from the menu on the wall.there were just over half a dozen people in, 4 were fellow travelers from the midlands and the other 3 locals, everybody chatted and laughed together for the entire time we were in the pub, it was a completely new experience, the owners and their daughter were also lovely. if you're in dover for a night and you like a decent pint and a chat, this place is a must.

I enjoyed this pub first time I visited, bit I persuaded a team do to start here. Even the hardened larger drinkers loved it and the cider fans enjoyed working their way through the extensive cider menu. Great place and an attentive landlord. Even the team cocktail drinker found some great find to keep him happy.

A fantastic, unique establishment. More akin to having a drink in someone's front room. Amazing selection of ales, ciders , English wines and over 50 gins ! Amazing host who knows about all the drinks down to the minute detail. And it's all fairly priced. Highly recommended

The Old Endeavour is a traditional pub that has been around for many years. It's known for its good food, river decking and open mic night.
Wouldn't know it from the front but these individuals know how to make you feel welcome and have a beautiful space at the back for private functions if needed. Nice place, decent staff. I'd go here again . . . Plus cheap (ish) drinks

Nice authentic local pub. Family run and friendly. Staff are always a good laugh. Many locals frequent this establishment, and they usually do theme nights and events. Nice patio at the back that leads down to the waters edge. Good price on the all-important booze.

Located in Dover, The Hoptimist is a modern micropub that offers a wide selection of craft beers and ales. Despite its size, it has a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The pub features a variety of cask conditioned and keg ales, including popular brands like Time and Tide and Thornbridge. Visitors can also enjoy the outdoor patio area for relaxation. Additionally, the bar offers cider options for those who prefer something different.
Stop by for a pint and ended up by couple of drinks because of awesome craft beer variety. Simply loved this place. A welcoming little pub with a wide selection of ales. Friendly staff who knows his job well. Very warm atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Recommend this micropub.
Win T — Google review
CAMRA pub of the year 2025 recognition that is well deserved. If you love real ale, there is no better place to go and the prices are low too. Unlike a lot of micro pubs, the Hoptomist regularly serves dark beers, porters, and stouts. 10 ciders and two lagers are also available. There is something for everyone, including Guinness Zero. The rear courtyard and front seating provide comfortable places to smoke. There are single toilets for ladies and gents, both are kept clean and fresh. Neither are accessible.

What a great tap room! A little gem in the centre of Dover and well worth a visit. We stopped in after a 15 km walk from Lydden to Dover and we really needed a drink. The service was excellent and the surroundings quite conducive for relaxing on a Sunday afternoon. There is a great selection of cask conditioned and keg ales, including Time and Tide and Thornbridge, which are really well kept. I would have liked to have stayed longer, but had to catch a bus; and will be back🙂❤️🍻🍺!

Great little bar in a sea of, let's be honest, grotty inner city pubs selling mostly yellow fizz. Beer, a selection of 4 ales, I enjoyed them all. They, I assume, are always changing, and someone appears to know their stuff when purchasing. Very very well priced for an inner city pub. Ciders are also available, another interesting selection of 8, although I didn't get to try any. Bar staff, Liam, was friendly and helpful with suggestions of food in the area and was happy for us to bring a takeaway in as they do not serve food. Gets my recommendation if you are in Dover and like a proper beer.
Christopher R — Google review
An excellent micropub in the middle of Dover Town centre and close to the new St James Shopping development. This pub serves a range of cask (served direct from the cask using gravity) and keg beers. On my visit they had a wide range of styles including Best Bitter (Amber), Pales Ales and Stouts. This pub was very busy but it was still possible to hold a conversation. They have a small covered area to the rear.

Lovely pub with a nice little outdoor smoking area which I have used in the past. The pub was crowded when I visited on 24th Feb as the rugby match was being shown. As I mentioned above, businesses with history, football and so on in general do not deserve to "die" like this!... Today, the seventeenth of September, I was here. It is an amazing business that has passion. I'm not a native Dover, nor an Englishman, but I can at least recommend this wonderful establishment full of noisy and good-hearted Englishmen. ME: I am sitting on a comfortable bar stool, upholstered. My "ritka" (it's mean a "BUM") is fine... I will order a beer AND ASK PERMISSION to take pictures of the premises. I don't even answer, so the barmaid immediately starts calling the owner (+)... Within 114 seconds, the owner is downstairs, where I dream of announcing, finding out how things are going here, and last but not least, praising his staff. Beauty to do with such people. No food served here, card payment over £5, free billiards for all "drink them". Beautiful surroundings, full of LIVERPOOL.... Beautiful, safe, clean premises. Parking behind the building, on the street. Beautiful, gentle.. .Just kidding... Because the beer is so harsh that you need another one. And that's just fine, for this establishment.! I recommend 5 out of 5!!!

Rack of Ale is a unique and charming pub in Dover, offering a wide selection of Ales. Despite breaking some Micro pub rules, it has gained popularity for its great atmosphere and well-kept real ales. The bar offers competitive prices for their changing real ale selection and is known for its friendly service. Visitors praise the friendly atmosphere, excellent drink options including a variety of ales, ciders, gins, rums, and mead.
The first Micro pub in Dover that goes from strength to strength. Great atmosphere. Can get very busy at weekends. Good range of well kept real ales. Does break a few Micro pub rules, but rules are made to be broken! e.g. recorded music is played, but all in the best possible taste as Kenny would have said. Sadly, now permanantly closed.

First time visiting the Chance and certainly won't be the last. Staff were very accommodating as we phoned and explained we were running late for our booking (sorry again!). Absolutely fantastic food, thoroughly enjoyed my burger and the kids loved the huge chips. Lovely, big portions but unfortunately no room for pudding on this occasion. Staff were friendly and attentive but that’s the only good thing I can say unfortunately. I don’t like leaving bad reviews but then I don’t like paying for bad food. The menu states everything is homemade and locally sourced. The only place the food is locally sourced from is Tesco freezer section. Burgers were frozen junk, mushy texture no flavour. Kids didn’t even eat their nuggets, I know nuggets aren’t the best but these were like foam pulp. Atmosphere was like a weather spoons with no music and very quiet. The actual eating area was dingy and worn out, mix match of furniture just looked like the grab what ever was laying around. I knew I was in for a rough meal as soon as the tescos own brand sauces come to the table. I wouldn’t be going back again.

One of the few old traditional boozers of old. Always a reliable draught ale kept properly, old pub grub. This is the type of pub I remember 25 years ago. Safe, friendly, good landlord.
Phil S — Google review
Came in to make an emergency call, the owner and his niece asked me to leave and while I was on the phone I ordered a water and they refused, quite literally pushing and dragging me out and grabbing and twisting my sprained wrist. So if you are poor and cannot even afford a coke/lemonade and you don’t want the people in charge trying to force you to drink alcohol then I would highly recommend giving this venue a miss. Did initially go in to grab a lemonade but they served all of the customers who pushed in front first and refused me service which they are well within their rights to do as a business, and they are well within their rights to remove patrons with reasonable force. I find it very morally corrupt the fact they do not let homeless people inside or even outside of their venue too. 1/5

A friendly pub just a few steps away from Dover's train station. We had a couple of drinks and a meal here after exploring Dover on a day trip.
