Lleida

Lleida is an ancient city in Spain's northeastern Catalonia region. La Seu Vella, a Gothic-Romanesque cathedral in a ruined hilltop fortress, towers over the city. Below the hill stretches the long, pedestrianized Eix Comercial de Lleida, with shops set inside many of the old town's striking buildings. On a hill to the west, the 12th-century Castle of Gardeny complex explores the region's Templar history.

Catholic cathedral
Cathedral
Perched on a commanding hilltop in Lleida, Spain, La Seu Vella is a stunning Roman Catholic church that combines Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles. The cathedral, dating back to the 13th century, boasts a magnificent bell tower with Gothic embellishments and an impressive 14th-century Gothic cloister offering panoramic views of Lleida. Visitors can climb the tower's 238 steps for breathtaking vistas of the surroundings.

Point of view to the top of the city, impressive huge Church. Not the most beautiful city in Catalunya but if you are driving by then climb on the top. Disabled access via elevators.

Nice siteseeing. With lovely views over llerida. You can go around the Castle/church and enter with the car to a parking spot at the top instead of waking all to to top or use the panorâmica elevator. Best on sundays morning when itsnt overcrowed. Theres a sympatic rstaurant around one of the coners.

Amazing architerure project. The old Castle is a great place with a great view. There is a bar inside " la Sibila" awesome to enjoy food and drinks and the perfect sunset

Awesome experience. Have to visit. Make sure you go up the stairs in the bell tower and experience the view. It is quite a climb but worth it. The audio guide is worth downloading and listening to.
Steven S — Google review
Frankly I was disappointed. The cathedral hasn't been used as a church for 200 years, so has very little ornamentation left. They are currently restoring the Cloisters. The views from the terrace are unimpressive - the surrounding countryside is mainly flat, and like most Spanish cites, the city itself is surrounded by industrial and retail parks
Alan D — Google review
Very nice! However be careful if you want to climb on the tower, it’s very high and physical!
Younes O — Google review
Excellent cathedral with a lot of interesting features to keep you busy. A bell tower to climb, a lovely cloister, frescoes in situ, lots of sculpture and the general atmosphere to soak up. Amazing really that there's anything much to see considering it was a military base for 300 hundred years. I know a lot more about the war of the Spanish succession now.

City Hall
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Lleida City Hall, located inside the historic Paeria Palace from the 13th century, stands as one of the main medieval buildings in Lleida. While it is a government building and access may be limited, visitors can still explore its interior. The palace features an interesting excavation with reconstructed ancient docks and a beautiful upper room showcasing the council chamber. Despite some limitations on accessibility, it's definitely worth a visit for its historical significance and architectural beauty.

(Translated by Google) I put 1 because it does not give the option of not putting any. Anselm Key Street, every night I come across rats, there is a lot full of garbage where I have seen even herds of rats many nights. Not to mention how dirty that street is on a regular basis and the smell of pee and poop there is. Another area is Roger de Lluria Street in Pardiñas. Always dirty, full of garbage, with 10 cats living there in the weeds. With a smell of pee and cat that permeates the entire street. This summer the bad smell reached the living room of my house. It's disgusting, I wonder if the people of Pardiñas don't pay taxes so that at least the street is taken care of, because I do pay them. We already know that Lleida is dirty and neglected, but there are areas that seem third world. A real disgust.

(Translated by Google) I'd like to ask a question: is there anyone in that building or at the town hall with even a modicum of intelligence to do things right in Lleida? It's incredibly ignorant to see a mural painted on a building where the APLEC festival is held, depicting a little girl with a snail on her finger, the grandfather looking on with a tender expression as if they were protecting snails, when in reality they kill thousands and millions to eat them 🤣. And then, at almost every roundabout, if not all of them, I think they're incapable of having the basic intelligence to place the traffic lights at pedestrian crossings 100 meters further out than the exit of a roundabout, so that when the light turns red, it doesn't obstruct the roundabout and cause traffic jams. Instead of finding a simple solution like that, they go and paint yellow lines on the roundabout so you don't get stuck there when the light turns red, blocking traffic from those behind and only allowing one entrance. When I see things like this, I think everyone who works for the Lleida city council is uneducated and lacks qualifications. I'm sure if I looked more closely, I'd find even more things that aren't done right. I'd fire the urban planning officer and replace him with someone with a bit more intelligence.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Perched on a hill in Lleida, Castell de la Suda forms part of a well-preserved monumental complex and has served as a military fortification since 822 AD. Originally built by the Moors, it was later taken over by the kings of the Crown of Aragon in the 13th century. The castle offers panoramic views of the city and is surrounded by extensive fortifications. Visitors can explore its exterior for free and enjoy picturesque photo opportunities.
We stopped to grab a bite to eat in this quiet town. Castell de la Suda is huge and can be seen from afar. We drove up to the very top about a 10 min drive. Plenty of free parking. You can definitely get a great view from up top of the town and this grand castillo all for free. Theres a fun park for the kids too. The entrance fee is to go inside the Castillo but like I said you can walk the entire outside of it and get great photos.

This is a marvelous site of a cathedral in castle. It is, however, not as well kept as historical monuments in other Spanish cities. This complex, as much as the city, feels in much need of renovation. And Lleida's adjact old town, unlike most Spanish cities, appears to be very poor with no tourist attractions or cafes - populated largely by African migrants. Apparently many are in the area for fruit picking.
John B — Google review
Lovely monument. Weekdays the price of entry is €5, and weekends it is €7 (€5 OAP etc.) The tower offers great views of the area and has a spiral staircase with 239 steps officially (spiral staircase plus the few to get to the base of the spiral). There are rest points where you can pretend to just be studying the bells for a few moments ;)

The New Cathedral of Lleida, also known as Seu Nova, is a significant landmark in the city. This neoclassical baroque-style cathedral boasts a spacious interior with a hall plan featuring three naves at the same height, an ambulatory around the apse, and chapels in the buttresses. The facade is flanked by two quadrangular towers and an atrium with a double lateral access staircase.
The current priest is amazing. The Cathedral is beautiful inside .

Seu Nova or the new cathedral, that was a gift from the king of Spain, after the old one have been occupied for a long time (for a time used as a garrison). The space is nice. Neoclassic style. It has two flanking bell tower-towers and balustrade.

History Museums
Museu de Lleida is an impressive art gallery that showcases the works of 19th- and 20th-century Lleida-associated artists, including surrealist sculptor Leandre. The museum offers a beautifully displayed collection with English translations available at the ticket point, making it accessible to international visitors. It provides a comprehensive journey through the region's human history, featuring a variety of artifacts and artworks from different periods.
This is a wonderful museum: everything is beautifully displayed and lit and though texts are all in Catalan there is a file with almost complete English translations at the ticket point. This is a rarity in Spain and well done.

Ferreruela is a renowned restaurant in Lleida, known for its refined menu that highlights local and seasonal ingredients, with a focus on charcoal grilling. The dining experience promises to be exceptional, offering traditional flavors cooked over the grill while incorporating modern techniques. Despite the seemingly high prices, the quality of the dishes justifies the cost. Located in a picturesque setting, Ferreruela combines classic cuisine with contemporary touches. Dishes like grilled lamb with aromatic herbs are popular among meat enthusiasts.
Wow this was an incredible meal. Every element of every dish was delicious and optimized. Walnuts perfectly lightly toasted. Fruit perfect ripeness. Ham subtle and perfectly tender, perfect saltiness (low). Gluten free bread incredibly light and perfectly toasted. Squid tender but flavorful. The list goes on. 80% of the menu is gluten free. They spoke great English. Food was fresh, local, perfectly prepared, and creative. If you are reading this review, just end your search and come here. Delightful experience.

This place was amazing, massive tables and great decor, and the food was some of the best I've had in any restaurant in years. We had rabbit shoulder, which I was a little nervous about, but it was cooked so perfectly, soft and delicious, that it was one of the best meats I've had in ages. All the other dishes were incredible and served with care and excellent presentation. The service was incredible and we got detailed explanations of everythimg They even brought us a sauce "garum" used in ancient roman times which we could use and it was incredible! Highly recommended

Sushi restaurant
Bokoto Lleida is a contemporary Japanese restaurant that offers innovative sushi combinations, nigiri, and tempura. The restaurant is known for its attention to detail in both its decor and menu options. With friendly staff and a wide range of choices, including must-try items like gyozas, special rolls (especially the flambeed ones), eel, salmon, and tuna nigiris.
After 4 days of hardy mountain fare in the Pyrenees, we were hankering for something fresher and more delicate on our drive home. Japanese cuisine fit the bill and you could not do better than Bokoto. They are serving sushi and other Japanese dishes at the highest level, with the freshest ingredients, expertly made. The flavors were truly authentic and the menu offered a vast variety of Japanese specialties. The prices are on the high side but are warranted by the quality and care. This is the place to go if you want real, high quality sushi and Japanese food. I only wish I lived closer to here to eat here more often.

While the prices may be slightly higher than typical tapas spots, the exceptional quality of ingredients and creative preparations make every bite worthwhile. This was the best Tapas we have eaten to date. Worth the visit to Lleida just for eating at Kimo! Get there early there is always a queue! If this place were in UK it would have a Michelin star. The food quality and cost in Spain are amazing and show how badly we are served in the UK.

As we were looking at the menu two people on their way out said the food is great. So we took their advice and were not disappointed. Mussels, hamburgers and carrot cake were enjoyed. It would be one of the nicest patty I have tasted. Our waiter thankfully spoke English. We enjoyed the wine, beer and liqueurs also.
Sheryll K — Google review
Extremely Disappointing Experience I’m still in shock at how poorly we were treated. We were a group of five professional women in our 50s: calm, respectful, and in great spirits, looking forward to a nice evening out. Instead, we were met with shockingly rude service. A Peruvian waiter, who appeared to be second in charge, came to our table abruptly, dropped the water glasses without care, and rushed us to order. He was visibly agitated, forgot part of our order (which delayed the meal by another 20 minutes), and never once apologized, not for the delay, nor for slamming glasses onto our table. When we asked a simple question about the menu, he replied condescendingly that we "didn't know how to read." I’ve never encountered this kind of disrespectful behavior in a restaurant—and I’ve dined all over the world. As a New Yorker and someone who works in the food and hospitality space, I was genuinely appalled. Needless to say, I will not be returning.
Annette E — Google review
Enjoyed the arroz with mushrooms, the prawns were also delicious (although I couldn’t figure out if I was to eat the shells too, it was so crisp and yummy). The eggs with potatoes and jamón was good too. Service is mostly good, though I wish I was given the option to sit at the bar - they gave those seats to a couple who arrived after I did, and gave me a table for one at the back of the restaurant instead.

Delicious and creative food, excellent service. They didn’t speak much English but were super patient and friendly as we used the google translator app 100 times.
