Lodi Cathedral, located in the heart of Lodi, is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture. The cathedral features a unique porch with small columns and two stone lions at its foot. Its facade, made of red stone typical of Lombardy, is adorned with a later-added rose window that creates a harmonious balance between solid and empty spaces.

This magnificent church, dating back to the late 15th century, showcases stunning Lombard Renaissance and late Baroque architecture. The Tempio Civico della Beata Vergine Incoronata, also known as the Sanctuary of the Incoronata, is a Catholic church in Lodi, Lombardy, Italy, and a masterpiece of Lombard Renaissance art. Origins: The temple was built starting in 1488, following reported miracles in 1487, when a fresco of the Virgin Mary on a brothel’s facade in Via Incoronata (formerly Contrada Lomellini) allegedly wept during a fight. This prompted the citizens of Lodi to construct a civic temple dedicated to the Crowned Virgin. Civic Significance: The term "Civico" (municipal) reflects its ownership by the Lodi commune, not the diocese, as it was funded and promoted by citizens and local authorities, symbolizing civic pride and devotion. Construction: Designed by Giovanni Battagio, a pupil of Bramante, construction began on May 29, 1488. Gian Giacomo Dolcebuono took over in 1489, completing the dome by 1491, and Lorenzo Maggi finished the bell tower in 1503. The facade was completed in 1879 by Alfonsino Truzzi.

(Translated by Google) A small sanctuary in Lodi located near the cathedral, construction began in 1488 and is one of the greatest masterpieces of the Lombard Renaissance. It has an octagonal plan and is richly decorated with frescoes and works of art. It belongs to the municipality because its creation stems from a citizen initiative.

(Translated by Google) The church, built between 1488 and 1494 based on a design by Giovanni Battaggio, is one of Lombardy's most astonishing Renaissance jewels. It is called a civic temple because it was commissioned and financed by the Lodi community, in recognition of the strong popular devotion to the miraculous image housed there. The octagonal plan, a symbol of perfection and rebirth, houses a fully decorated interior, a true Baroque-Renaissance treasure trove overflowing with paintings, sculptures, frescoes, and stuccoes created by the greatest Lombard artists of the 16th and 17th centuries. The works are truly numerous: rather than listing them, the motto here applies: "not to describe, but to contemplate."

A splendid square that dates back to the 12th century and in which styles from all eras mix in splendid harmony, so much so that some have called it little Vienna because from the cathedral looking to the right there is a view identical to Vienna. The square surrounds the cathedral which has a splendid Romanesque style façade, from here the porticoes open which house shops, restaurants and bars. (Translated by Google) This square represents the heart of the city of Lodi. Overlooking it are the Cathedral of the Virgin of the Assumption, the Municipal Palace (Palazzo Broletto) and the Palazzo Vistarini, one of the most beautiful in the city. Since 2004 it has been included in the list of the most beautiful squares in Italy by the Italian Touring Club. Some of the columns that support the porticoes come from the old Laus Pompeia. The facades of the buildings overlooking the square have very small widths. This characteristic is due to the use of the deep but narrow "Gothic Lot", typical of all cities of medieval origin. Designed to make the most of the space overlooking the square. All the buildings have the same characteristics: The shop on the ground floor with a space covered by the portico on the front and the warehouses in the basement, the residence on the upper floor and the courtyard at the back. The paving of the square dates back to the end of the 1400s and is made with river pebbles. In the first half of the 19th century, the center of the quadrilateral was occupied by an imposing equestrian statue of Napoleon Bonaparte, erected by the French general himself to celebrate his victory in the Battle of Lodi. This square has always been at the center of city life. In the Middle Ages, capital executions, fairs and celebrations were held for the arrival of the bishops.

The Paolo Gorini Museum, located in the Ospedale Vecchio, is a hidden gem showcasing the eccentric scientist's experiments with anatomical preservation. The collection features mummified and calcified anatomical pieces from the Lodi area, offering visitors a unique glimpse into history. Despite being relatively unknown outside of experts and locals in 1997, it has now become an important resource for understanding the relationship between humans and science.
(Translated by Google) Passing by chance in Lodi I came across the old hospital. The external complex and the cloister are already truly noteworthy. On the gate the writing of the free visit to Paolo Gorini's anatomical collection. A single room, entirely frescoed on the ceiling. Showcases correlated with indications of what is inside. You are transported to a strange world, made of organs, muscles, veins, skeleton and even newborns and entire mummified figures. The story is of this scholar doctor who prepared these anatomical parts according to a study he invented and experimented with. A gem discovered by chance that really left me amazed. Caffè Nazionale is a beloved establishment for coffee enthusiasts and those with a sweet tooth. It offers an array of delectable treats such as macarons and an extensive selection of cakes. The eatery also excels in crafting delicious pizzas and serving appetizing drinks. Visitors can enjoy the lively atmosphere outside, overlooking Lodi's town square, while young people particularly appreciate this spot.
19.07.22 Latest visit: After our dinner here about a month ago, I knew I would be back to try those mouthwatering pizzas. Got our tastebuds singing with a wonderful appetiser that came highly recommended by our waitstaff. I ❤️ the Code di gamberi e zucchine pizza. This time we are lucky enough to get a table on the patio and tuck into some excellent Italian food and sweets. If you are unsure with all the amazing options, charming staffs are always happy to recommend their specials. Service: cross over from being professional into next-level hospitable 👍🏼 1st Visit: A fabulous menu with amazing choices, makes it hard for the undecided to pick just one. Seated near to the kitchen, we were extremely tempted by the countless Pizzas rolling out by the service window, they must be a favourite for many of the patrons here. Poké Bowls seem to be having their trendy moment. The most diverse ingredients are presented together in a lavishly filled bowl. It is colourful, healthy, delicious and absolutely vital for me in summer weather. I love Caffè Nazionale's version: With Venere rice as base - the textures are crunchy with salty and sweet ingredients complimenting each other perfectly. Carbonara risotto, asparagus and duck speck - portion substantial, absolutely delectable and would convert rice sceptics into risotto lovers. The salmon salad is made to share, with generous slices of the fish and topped with loads of almonds. At the bar, you will see a gorgeous display of various sweet treats❤️. They have wonderful outdoor dining, keep in mind that bookings are strongly recommended.

Nice sun on the outdoor tables in the early morning. Spacious inside with great options. Low tables. High tables. Booths. Coffee is fine. You are paying for the ambiance. Disconcerting and annoying to be asked for money as soon as you are served at your table. Most people find this understandably annoying but I get it. Music not too loud which is great. Restaurant is affordable and good quality for the price.

Food is alright but way too expensive. Terrible service, got screamed at, servers make no efforts for tourists. The only things that’s remotely alright in this establishment is a server called Louis. We got scammed out of our money, payed for tap water and got pressured by an unkind woman into paying said water when we didn’t want to. This place is an obvious tourist scam. We were moved from our seats into an awkward spot next to the service area by the same aggressive woman. Avoid at all costs, best to eat dog poop than having to walk into that place. TOURIST SCAM!!!
