Perched atop a 75-meter hill, Puijo Tower offers stunning panoramic views of Kuopio and its picturesque lake. The tower is a must-visit attraction, featuring a revolving restaurant serving local delicacies while guests take in the breathtaking scenery. Situated on Puijo ridge, the area boasts an extensive network of paths and tracks for outdoor enthusiasts to explore. Nature trails provide opportunities to immerse in the diverse surroundings.
A must place to visit once in Kuopio! Take a look at the views from the cafe or from the terrace up in the tower. Then take the ski lift to below the ski jump hills where you can take the inner tube slide on the smallest hill.
Juho Ä — Google review
The most interesting thing is the restaurant at the very top of the tower, which rotates around the tower. The prices are of course overpriced for the dishes. But the room itself costs only 8 euros, which is a big plus. It is possible to visit this cultural event on E-Passi. Respect to the Architect👍👍👍💫
Oleksandr D — Google review
Coffee shop and restaurant at level 3 of the tower. Go up by lift or walk if you have good legs. Nice view of the Kuopio area.
Pat K — Google review
Great views from up top. Nice cafe on top. Souvenirs in the bottom. Elevator takes you up almost all the way. 20 more steps to the viewing platform.
Köpi T — Google review
Kuopio had its surprises too. One of them being Puijo observation tower, towering 246 ft from the ground. It has a 100 seater revolving restaurant. There were 3 towers to begin with, the 1st one was built during 1856, the 2nd was built during 1906 and later dismantled, then the 3rd or better said - the current tower was completed during mid 1963. I have given some pictures which are installed by the Kuopio government for better understanding, near the drive-in road. There are some fabulous small shops near by for one's on-the-spot buying options and a small sit-in and sit-out café. Interesting place and wonderful to note this is the 1st tower with a revolving restaurant in the Nordic countries. A must visit, I must say.
Neeru D — Google review
Nice place to visit. Ski lift was not operational so we had to drive by car to the top. Deffinitely go up the Puijo tower and have a beer/coffee/lemonade while admiring the view.
Harri R — Google review
Broad look-out terrace and underneath it 360 view caffe. You see the whole town and far beyond to the lake district countryside. I recomend wearing binocular and something wind-proof

Market
Kuopio Market is a vibrant outdoor marketplace that has been operating since 1818. It offers a wide range of products including fresh produce, flowers, and more. The market is a great place to meet friendly locals and immerse yourself in the city's culture. Visitors can also enjoy hiking from Kuopio Market Square to Puijo Tower through a nature reserve and old Puijon polku-hiking path.
Really nice old building where you can find many good local products. Fishes, bread, cheese. There you can take a coffee.
Jean F — Google review
A lively place with many vendors selling fruits, food, clothes and other miscellaneous items. There is an indoor market as well that has cafes, florists, fishmongers, stalls for clothes etc. Should spend at least an hour for so to soak up the laid-back lifestyle.
Paritosh D — Google review
Every summer, this market place full of people. Where you can buy fresh newly pick fruits in kilos of your own choice also vegetables. Very accessible to all commuters. It's in the center of the city.
Marie G — Google review
Great place to visit and taste local and international food. The market hall is on the small side but packed with great options. Check out Ukko's Herkku for a variety of quality cheese, meats and other local product. The outdoor farmer market is happening throughout the summer offering tasty strawberries and other local delicacies. Variety and prices are better than in Helsinki. Kupio market often hosts events so be sure to check out the calendar. Pay parking is available nearby underground. Kid friendly atmosphere.

The Museum of Kuopio, housed in a beautiful Art Nouveau building next to Snellman Park, is a must-visit attraction in the charming city of Kuopio, Finland. The museum showcases exhibits from both the Kuopio Museum of Natural History and the Kuopio Museum of Cultural History. Visitors can explore a diverse collection of historical items from different eras as well as enjoy changing displays like macrophotography of insects.
Great museum with lots of interactive areas for kids and adults. Plenty to see and had a good temporary exhibition covered in the entry fee or museum card. Has a little play area hidden away on the 2nd floor and a nice cafe on the ground floor. Well worth a visit
Adrian G — Google review
I just returned from this museum. It was cool! I am amazed by the replica, I could say it seemed realistic, especially the animal figures. Asides that, my favourite was the boat on the first floor and the VR experience. I was so happy to know that they have separated a temporary museum that the concept would be different periodically. However, I have to admit three things I don't like; 1. Yes, they have a guide in English but most of the text next to the exhibition's collection is written in Finnish only. 2. I thought the ticket price for students was €5 after checking from the website, but the price refers to the old museum. I don't really understand this mistake because I clicked the link to the web directly from this. So, the actual price was 10. 3. Still about the language, they have a short documentary on the highest floor,,, I'd appreciate it if you put it subtitled, because watching 17 mins without understanding what they were talking about was... not pleasant.

Interesting display of different topics. Lot's of good photograps from recent competition. Also Finnish wildlife was well represented.

Museum of Kuopio was a excelent place to visit durring a rainy day. It offers great selection of history, both for Savo area and also natural history of Finland. There is a great number of different items from different eras on display. And also includes is the second floor of lobby which has a changing display. At the time of visit there was macrophotography of insects, which was amazing 5/5 recommendation for it.

Quite detailed museum about local history and also about nature. It is not the biggest in size, but still enough to be worth the visit.

The picturesque landscapes provide a breathtaking backdrop for both skiing in the winter and hiking during the summer months. Great downhill skiing hills, nice fireplaces for sausage grilling on the hill, several restaurants and bars with good service.
Jari H — Google review
Great ski center with a lot of different kind of slopes. The slopes toward the Tahko village might be a bit too steep for less advanced skiers. Good restaurants in the slope area.
Jan S — Google review
Very beautiful and peaceful holiday location.

I will update tomorrow if things improve. Maybe it was just Saturday being the "change day" Shame the slopes were not prepared at all. Arrived the night before and was snowing heavily. There were no signs the machines had been used during the night. Main ticket office personnel were unpolite. Also the cross county tracks had not been prepared! The apre ski at 6.30 was dead. THIS IS THE UPDATE: Things did not improve regarding the night life. Although they did get the machines out on the slopes. I do hear that the "Business Weekend" it does liven up ;)

Museums
The Kuopio Art Museum, situated in a converted bank building near the cathedral and market square, is the cultural hub of Eastern Finland. It showcases an impressive collection of over 7,000 works primarily by Finnish artists, including pieces depicting the region's nature and its evolution from the 19th century to modern times. Notable highlights are the von Wright brothers' collections and Juho Rissanen's works. The museum also hosts exhibitions featuring both local and international art.
I liked one painting. Other than that, I saw people spending time. You can have a good time.
Muhammet C — Google review
After staying in this small city for more than three years, I thought of coming to the city's art gallery to take a peek at the city's art and history. During the hundreds of years of development, this small city has hardly been affected by the wave of industrialization. As time goes by, the city still maintains its original style and state. "Hundreds of years go by, I remain the same"

Fine dining restaurant
Scandinavian restaurant
Nestled in the charming city of Kuopio, Ravintola Musta Lammas, which translates to "Black Sheep," offers a delightful dining experience within a beautifully renovated wine cellar that once served as a brewery dating back to 1862. This cozy eatery draws inspiration from the pristine forests and lakes of Eastern Finland, showcasing an impressive array of gourmet dishes crafted from fresh seafood, game meats, and locally sourced vegetables.
The exterior of the restaurant doesn't reveal anything about the cozy brick cellar vaults that house the Musta Lammas (Black Sheep) restaurant. You could be excused for just walking by the restaurant without noticing. Ambiance and service at the restaurant was impeccable and dietary constraints we had notified the restaurant about in advance were discreetly confirmed. The food was excellent - we opted not to disturb the evening by taking pictures, but trust me, this is definitely worth a visit. The restaurant uses locally sourced ingredients and now in summer had expertly also integrated elements foraged from nature. The menu varies with the seasons. We had chosen not to study the menu in advance, and enjoyed a surprise menu. In addition to a nice wine pairing an excellent option is the non-alcoholic drink package. The restaurant had prepared quite interesting and tasty "mocktails" to accompany the menu. I might go as far as to say skip the wines and try the nonalcoholic pairing!
Camillo S — Google review
We had a wonderful birthday dinner at Musta Lammas. All six servings were very good, and we really appreciated the thoroughly vegetarian modifications for my wife, while I had the regular servings. The wine pairing was spot on for the different flavors of the food, and the waiter was great. Compared to the quality of the food and the whole experience, the price was very reasonable. If we ever come by Kuopio again, we will certainly visit this place!
Claus R — Google review
Very good food! Service in English was pretty entertaining to say the least. All the wines were perfect also. The atmosphere was great!💙
Petra K — Google review
Pricey. but worth every penny. The restaurant has a long history as one of the best fine dining restaurants in Kuopio, the staff is knowledgeable and the dishes are made with seasonal ingredients from local producers.
Eemeli N — Google review
Their elämysmenu was okey. I would just say that there are at least two better fine dining restaurants in Kuopio which offer similar menus with the names surprise menu and weekend menu.
Sezgi D — Google review
Excellent finedining restaurant in city centre. For example local forest herbs used in kitchen. Lots of different ingredients mixed make wonderful compilation and they have own greenroom for growing spices and herbs.

Restaurant
Nestled in a charming former bank building across from a lovely park, Restaurant Isä Camillo offers an inviting atmosphere for those seeking a delightful dining experience. This casual venue specializes in European cuisine, showcasing seasonal ingredients that highlight the best of local flavors. Diners can indulge in dishes like pike perch and mushroom risotto or savor duck breast drizzled with raspberry sauce from their thoughtfully curated à la carte menu.
The restaurant is located in a old bank, you can see the vault in the back. The building gives the restaurant a nice ambiance. I had a risotto for starter, and it was one of the best risottos I've ever had - matching and exceeding many I've had in Italy. Roasted tomatoes, roasted pine kernels and feta cheese were nicely offset by jerusalem artichoke. I would have chosen this as a main any day. The steak I had for mains was well prepared and I enjoyed the crunchy seasons vegetables and new potatoes. It didn't rise above the risotto, but then again, how could it. Service was friendly and attentive, the waiter deserved a nice tip. Would come again. Recommended.
Camillo S — Google review
Whole meal it is decent but not extra ordinary. There are only 5 official doneness of a steak which are: 1.rare 2.medium rare 3.medium 4.medium well 5.well done (They also offer options that are vegan and dairy-free.)

Ordered steak and it was good plus i loved the potato gratin that comes with it, however the whole meal is quite a little portioned you might as well order some additional entrée. Loved the atmosphere thought!

Nice bistro type restaurant in Kuopio with friendly service, good food and reasonable prices. Mediterranean kitchen. Their bouillabaisse has won prize and yes, it was very nice. Service is not the fastest but people are nice and helpful.

My wife and I are visiting from New Zealand 🇳🇿. We went to this restaurant with local friends. My wife and I are vegan, so no meat, dairy products, or eggs. The chef's produced our meals from the menu and adapted our meals for us. I had the Kirsikkatomaattirisotto, and my wife had the Fetageatinoitua. The meals were absolutely delicious. Our friends also enjoyed their meals. Table service was superb, and the staff spoke English 😊. Background music was very pleasant. We do intend to visit Kuopio again in Winter. We will definitely visit this restaurant again.

We had karonkka here and the food and service were phenomenal! The waitress were so professional and helpful.
Mehrdad S — Google review
We had a three course vegan dinner. Pumpkin soup as the appetiser was quite pleasant, but the soup was topped with raw pumpkin seeds which did not fit the dish. The main course had delicious flavors, but it was presented like a canteen buffet dish and was too large of a portion. The vegan mud cake was the star of the evening. Overall good flavours, but details and presentation not on point.

Pizza restaurant
During a trip up north, I stopped for a takeaway lunch at BLOCCO and was pleasantly surprised by their exceptional duck teriyaki pizza. The crust had an enticing combination of crispiness on the outside and chewiness on the inside, resulting in a delectable taste. The cheese was also superbly satisfying. My girlfriend opted for the margherita pizza, which boasted a fantastic tomato sauce.
Love the Margherita! Service was fast and love the cozy interior!

Pizzeria with it's own thinh makes it top3 best pizzerias in Kuopio. Decorations are genuine, pizzas are delicious and staff is friendly. Cocktails were bit meh, but still enjoyable. I would recommend going here if you grave pizza.
Jesse L — Google review
We ordered a vegan pizza with gluten free base. The toppings were tasty and delicious, but the pizza base was cooked too hard and crispy. It was tough to cut even with the pizza slicer. The gluten free dough should be more fluffier sourdough style, like in Via Tribunali for example.
Leo M — Google review
I took margarita and it felt like it was just a base and were skimpy with toppings so it felt like i was eating just tomato sauce... the staff was nice tho
Kihaku V — Google review
Great pizzeria with vegan options ! 2 vegan options at the moment : a marinana 14€ (tomato sauce, dried tomatoes, herbs, garlic) and a cream based one 15€ (garlic and artichoke cream, potatoes, rosemary, capers). It's possible to add vegan cheese for 2,5€ (pricy but it's great to have this possibility). I took the marinara with vegan cheese and it was delicious !! Great flavours, great pizza dough (light and aery, the crusts were not dry) and very cheesy. My boyfriend who's not vegan loved his too. We definitely recommend !

Finnish restaurant
Muikkuravintola Sampo is a renowned restaurant in Kuopio, Finland, with a rich history dating back to 1931. Originally established during the country's prohibition era, it quickly became one of the first restaurants to obtain a liquor license when alcohol bans were lifted. The restaurant is celebrated for its delectable fish dishes, particularly the vendace, and its famous Grandma's pancakes for dessert.
This place made me feel quite nostalgic. The food tasted like home and the decor was somewhat reminiscent of the old Europe that's slowly disappearing. I ate fried vendace a la sampo and my husband ordered a portion with fish, bacon and onion. Both were so simple and delicious.
Valda J — Google review
The food was absolutely exquisite and service very good. We both had the "traditional" dish with a side dip (strong recommendation for the dip) and it was delicious. The otherwise perfect visit was kinda ruined by what we called "muikkusumu" aka the strongish smoke that filled the restaurant and brought tears to my eyes at the end of the meal. Would definitely visit again without the smoke. (Note this of you a have allergies).
Helena K — Google review
Traditional is only word that describes this restaurant. Food is simple made and there is no trickery. Food tastes what is looks like. There are better places to eat vendace in Finland. Interior is pure legacy but still needs a bit of renovation. Service was good and efficient.
Jani V — Google review
The fried vendace was really good – fresh and tasty, no complaints about the food. But the service? Not great. We felt like they were doing us a favour by letting us eat there. The vibe was cold and a bit passive-aggressive, and there was a comment at the end that just felt unnecessary. Great kitchen, but the overall attitude needs work.
Aleksandra — Google review
Great service and atmopshere. Food good, very nice muikku (i heard from people dining with me), unfortunately only one vegetarian option that can be made vegan but I guess they are primarily a sea food restaurant. Would have appreciated a potentially one or two more vegetarian/vegan options. However staff were knowledgeable of dietary restrictions and allergen content of different dishes, which was good.
Iina J — Google review
Food was delicious and the place serves as a reminder of how famous it in 1900s when it was first established.
