What a wonderful and historic church. The cool, dark interior is dominated by vaulted ceilings and a magnificent Baroque altarpiece of carved, guilded wood that takes up the entire height of the back wall of the apse, and the two wings that flank it. The wooden galleries - reserved for men - are typical of the Basque Country. The building is steeped in history with Louis XIV and María Teresa, daughter of King Philip IV of Spain, being married in 1660 (while the church was still under construction). Visiting is an absolute must if you are in the area.
This is a MUST DO if you are here on a Sunday! Yes, it is amazing g architecture znd decore, but it is a church and to hear the organ, the singing that fills the interior and participate was wonderful experience. There was paper outline to follow, very helpful for us English speaking Protestants. We went to the 10:30AM service and were so glad we got there 20 minutes early, as there was standing room only when the church bells rang to begin.
Very beautiful place. When we have walked past there is usally no wait at all. Stunning views and architecture. I would highly recommend popping in and viewing. We came here on a sunny Monday and there was a few people inside but lots of space to look and explore
This is an historically important church, where Louis the 14th was married. It has a very unusual architectural feature being the wooden balconies that have been added around three of the walls. This was to house an expanding congregation that could not fit otherwise. A lovely church and Well worth the visit. Entry is free And a good place to sit for a while.
Beautiful Catholic Church in the centre of town and leading onto the square Louis IV. The architecture and the decorations within the church were stunning with so many lovely colours and stained glass decorations. Really worth stopping by if you are interested in the history of this town.
Beautiful church that's almost hidden away. Make a stop and enjoy its beauty. As always, be respectful and mindful of worshippers.
Was walking past and went in on impulse so glad I did. Very quiet and peaceful looks and feels old
The Church of John the Baptist (Saint- Jean-Baptiste), where June 9, 1660 Louis XIV, king of France and Navarra, (grandson of Henry IV) married Mary Theresa of Spain. This is the largest temple in the Basque part of France. It's a very exciting feeling to study history in this way

This afternoon we visited the charming fishing town Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Little; but such a wonderful busy town center! The highlight for me was clearly a memorable church incredibly beautiful and ornate yet so basic. Built by the artisans of a simple fishing village, not the gold and opulence of famous cathedrals but instead filled with the amazing ornate wood carvings of true craftsmen. For me, their craftsmanship, passion and faith is no less impressive than the most elaborate cathedrals of Rome! So memorable!
Visited on a rainy day the town is lovely as Is the working port to wonder round. The bay is so calm due to the sea walls (very safe for babies/ toddlers and lovely sand) however there was no swimming allowed when we visited and life guards were telling / getting swimmers out due to bacteria. Seems like they had the same problem as we have in the UK.
lovely and beautiful

Plus if you're lucky to find a parking space, the price of parking is super affordable. (Original) Joli petit port typique. (Translated by Google) As a sailboat sailor, I found the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz welcoming and well-equipped. This corner of the Basque Country exudes maritime authenticity, with fishing boats moored along the well-maintained quays, while sailboats are anchored in the bay on moorings. The harbor entrance is clear, and the atmosphere is warm and pleasant, ideal for relaxing after a sail. The beaches and bay offer beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. Be careful, the anchorage is quite rolling in heavy swells, making life aboard the sailboat sometimes difficult. I enjoyed strolling along the quays, discovering the architectural details of the old buildings that line the port. The restaurants serve ultra-fresh fish and seafood, with pleasant terraces to enjoy the setting. The quays are well-appointed, perfect for a break or to observe the daily maritime activity. The port is an excellent starting point for exploring the beaches or coastal paths on foot. The sunsets are superb, with vibrant colors that beautify the bay. I recommend this port to sailors and visitors for its simple charm, despite the sometimes rough anchorage. The maritime history, the lively docks, and the warm welcome make it a must-visit place for a memorable getaway! ☺️.. ☺️..
(Translated by Google) Although the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz is historic and has been famous for tuna fishing for ages, it is unfortunately being used less and less by professional fishermen, and direct sales upon arrival at the port have ceased. One of my favourite beaches along the basque coast..
nice beach but too many stones. Hard to get into the see, better bring sea shoes…
Nice beach but why can’t the locals respect the byelaw concerning the ban of animals on the beach.
Ok beach but lots of rocks in the water. Not really suitable for swimming unless one wears swim shoes. I would not advise to jump head first into the water. Water is also full of sea gras, not really nice.
Good point to visit :)

What an amazing market. Fresh local food everywhere. Anything you may want is here. Fresh stawberries were delicious. Highly recommend.
It was very busy. Lots of fresh produce and tempting, waistline increasing delicacies. If you want to get something for lunch, do it well before 1 pm.
A nice indoor market with vegetables, meat, fish and various other stalls. Open until lunch time. Very busy on the Friday when all the stalls are open. Not so busy on other days where some of the stalls are not open. On the Friday additional stalls open up outside. We ate some oysters at the Buvette de La Halle with a glass of wine. They were very tasty
Great place to visit , very lively . The variety of food , cheeses , seafood is amazing .
Great local market. Awesome produce and a great place to grab a take away lunch.
Great central market with lots to see. Make sure to have a meal at Buvette de la Halle. It's located in one of the corners. Some of the freshest shellfish and seafood that you will ever taste.
It's not a big market but what a fabulous selection they have! Beautiful place, impeccably clean with a good choice of excellent local products. From fresh meats to seafood, freshly baked cakes, pastries and other local delicacies all under one roof. What a great way to shop! Not to forget cheese and wine. I highly recommend.
Right in the center of Saint Jean de Luz, this typical French market has all the local delicacies and traditional food you can find in such places: fresh vegetables, fruits, cheese, meat, fish, cold cuts, aperitifs and so on! It's both indoor and outdoor, with plenty of food stall outside.

We were received by a young lady with a smile and professionalism who gave us valuable advice for touring the city and the Basque region. She also provided us with maps and brochures that we will keep for future visits. The shop is beautiful and packed with precious souvenirs and many local gifts to offer!
We stayed at the Grande Hotel de la Poste to be there when The Soulsters were playing in the kiosk in the Place. It was a wonderful evening. A great atmosphere. Everyone singing and dancing to a popular répertoire. An event not to be missed.
I want to complain about the lack of visibility of platform numbers in the train station. It is very easy to miss a train, particularly for non-French speakers

(Translated by Google) I put the summary at the beginning instead of at the end: Magnificent products and magnificent staff with very good service. They sell home products such as tablecloths, curtains, bathrobes, towels, bags, dishes, cutlery, cups and glasses, all with a line of Basque style and colors. The quality of what they make is magnificent, for example you just have to look at the weight they use in their towels, one of the highest on the market and not only French but in Spain you don't find towels of that superior weight. The prices are not cheap but the quality/price ratio is very good, I still recommend going on sale because the sales range from 30 to 50% and that is very, very worth it. Tablecloths and kitchen cloths that are made of fabric have a stain-repellent treatment that will last you for years and years until you get bored.

Small but well laid out gardens just off the coastal path. The pond area was great with dragonfly’s buzzing over the reeds. Views along the coast were great and we sat and took them in while eating our picnic. The cost was minimal and we enjoyed the rest of the gardens, especially the mini labyrinth, which the kids ran round again and again!
Very lovely. Only open on one day of our stay. So glad we didn't miss it.
A nice walk up the cliffs. Small but with a great variety of plants.
Not exactly Wisley, but it’s cheap and there’s a few nice views. We saw a snake which was cool (and thé high point)

This was my second visit to the gardens and I love it there. No matter what the season there is always something in bloom. The garden is easily accessible and the walks well maintained and signed posted.

(Original) Très belle balade jusqu'à la pointe, à pieds avec le beau soleil et la belle vue sur la baie de Saint Jean de Luz, Ciboure et Socoa.
(Translated by Google) Nice destination to visit in Saint Jean, the coast and the noisy waves relax the mind! It's a shame that some passages are full of ends and very slippery, so some descents are dangerous in rainy weather. So I recommend going there in sunny weather 😎 (Original) Jolie destination à visiter à saint jean, la côte et les vagues bruyantes détendent l’esprit ! Dommage que certaine passage sont pleins de bout et très glissant, certaines descentes sont donc dangereuse en temps pluvieux. Je conseils donc d’y aller en temps ensoleillé 😎

Was amazed to watch this in St Jean de Luz in 1989 whilst visiting. The speed of the play was quite extraordinary! Hope to get there this year to see the fastest ball game on the planet! Andrew
We love the Jai Alai, especially the international pro competitions. But the crowd was overwhelming tonight. Luckily there were a few areas where you could spread out.
If you've never seem Jai-Alai, you owe it to yourself to go see it, it's amazing!
Great competition
A must see experience! Amazing!
Low transport frequency
Super experience!!!!!
