La Plata

La Plata is the capital of Argentina's Buenos Aires province and is near the city of Buenos Aires. A planned city, it’s known for its distinctive diagonal avenues. At its center, the open expanse of Plaza Moreno is crowned by the grand, neo-Gothic Cathedral of La Plata. Also on the plaza is the Palacio Municipal, built in German Renaissance style. La Plata Museum has a vast collection of natural-history exhibits.

Museum
Children's Museums
The Museo de La Plata is a significant museum housed in a Neo-classical building, showcasing anthropology, geology, zoology, paleontology, and botany collections. Founded by the Argentine naturalist Francisco Moreno, it is an essential destination for families in La Plata.
We spent 4 1/2 hours exploring this museum. It was absolutely amazing. I would say this is a must do if visiting La Plata.
Michelle C — Google review
The museum boasts a remarkable collection. While I intended to view all exhibits, the lights were unexpectedly extinguished, and we were asked to vacate the premises. They should be allowing visitors at least 15-20 minutes to complete their exploration once they have entered an exhibit area.
Levan M — Google review
Great natural history museum. Really enjoyed all of the dinosaurs and fossils. The geological exhibits were also very impressive.
Maria F — Google review
Awesome museum! Cheap to enter and full of wonderful exhibits including fossils, animals, plants and rocks! Staff were friendly too! Would recommend visiting if you get the chance. It's about an hour on the train from Buenos Aires so it can be a trek but its worth it.
Sian H — Google review
Amazing museum, but a complete pain to reach (assume 2 hours from Buenos Aires) Definitely a rival to the natural history museum in London! It is on thr small size, but well worth a visit
Mark — Google review
This museum allows you to learn about the local fauna now and in the past, through fossils and skeletons. They also have objects from the originary peoples from south America. Very nice visit. I went in January 2022 and it costed 500 pesos (2-4 dollars) at the time.
Maitê — Google review
Awesome. Great for kids. A fantastic old school museum in a gorgeous building, more dinosaur bones and animal skeletons and taxidermy animals than anyone would ever need. Upstairs has more modern interactive exhibits, but the first floor is why you come. Truly a world class collection of dinosaurs on display. If you have kids, this will be the highlight of their week.
Carolyne K — Google review
Interesting museum with a huge selection of artefacts of the pre civilization, animal world, Egypt, Inka empire and much more. The museum is really traditional but therefore quiet old fashioned. Price was cheap, inside is also a small cafe place to rest.

Paseo del Bosque, also known as the City Park, is a lush urban forest located on the outskirts of the city center. It features a serene lake, picturesque grotto, and various attractions such as amphitheaters and stadiums. One of its notable highlights is the Museo de Ciencias Naturales, an old Victorian-style museum affiliated with the National University that houses a diverse collection of stuffed animals, archaeological artifacts, and more.

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
Catedral de La Plata is an expansive neo-Gothic cathedral that can accommodate up to 7,000 people. Construction began in 1885 and the building was finally inaugurated in 1932, with the twin steeples completed much later in 1999. The design of the cathedral was inspired by medieval churches in Cologne and Amiens, featuring exquisite stained-glass windows, gargoyles, and polished granite floors.
The La Plata Cathedral is impressive from the outside. It is very tall, and you can see the entire building clearly from the plaza in front of it. Across the plaza, the municipal building adds to the overall atmosphere of the area. Inside, the dome is very high up and magnificently decorated. One thing that really stood out was the confession boxes. The woodwork there is very detailed and intricate. We have not seen anything like it before in a cathedral. There are also many colourful stained glass windows that are beautifully decorated. Overall, the cathedral is grand and welcoming. It is definitely worth a visit when you are in La Plata.
River A — Google review
The catedral is really nice and is open for everybody. If you want to visit the museo and the tower it costs 10$ per adult. The museum is underneath the church and they even have a small gift shop. The fime when I visited only the Jesus tower was open for visitors. You can go to two floors. With an elevator where a guy tells you important historical facts about the Catedral de la Plata. The view from the top floor over La Plata is nice.
Cheyenne B — Google review
Very beautiful church - really huge and located in a nice area of La Plata. Visitors should definitely add this as number 1 priority if they are visiting the city. Both the internal and external areas are incredible and the church js located jn a very nice area, with a park and lots of people.
Renato G — Google review
Worth your visit to La Plata. To sit down and enjoy the silence. Enjoy beautiful architecture.
A A — Google review
This cathedral is beautiful and worth touring. Don't forget about the museum and crypt either. It's amazing detail is just stunning to see in person. Photos do not do it justice.
Michelle C — Google review
such a historical and beautiful place to visit. I highly recommend to go into the museum and to use the elevator that shows you such a great view from the top of the catedral
Flor A — Google review
Outstanding beautiful cathedral. Totally worth the visit
Francis S — Google review
You don't expect this kind of architecture in South America and you definitely don't expect a Cathedral with this level of detail to be made of brick. The design was incredible and the history behind the building is unique as well. The interior is just as grand as the exterior and has a holy aura to it. Definitely worth stopping in for a minimum of 30 minutes. The stain glass alone is worth it

Cervecería Modelo is a popular Argentine restaurant located in La Plata, known for its wide variety of delicious dishes. The restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere and reasonable prices, making it a favorite among locals. It provides amenities such as takeout options, outdoor seating, and wheelchair access. Established since 1894, the place has maintained its reputation over the years with great food and friendly service.
What else can I say about Cervecería Modelo? I don’t know! I have been coming to this place year after year and its reputation HAS NOT CHANGED! Food is delicious, service is great, ambience is very friendly and the peanuts 🥜 shell on the floor: EPIC! Love this place that has been open since 1894! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻 (of course, I have not been there since then, ok? Just clarifying 😉)
Ines R — Google review
My husband and I went here because of reviews. FYI, we are American foodies. The venue and atmosphere were nice. Service was perfectly fine. The food was not. Our empanada and burger were not good. The burger was burnt and dry. The fries with the burger were soggy. Beyond the ketchup, it was a burnt and dry burger patty on bread and that’s it. The arugula and tomatoes I ordered alongside my chicken Milanese were not fresh and did not look appetizing at all. The beer was good. Please note, tip is included automatically. Although our Spanish isn’t great, we managed well.

GOOD FOOD. WE REALLY LIKE THE LAMB MILANESA.
Anwesha J — Google review
Everything is great, but they don't have any soups. It's very weird for restaurant.
Vitalii C — Google review
Service was exceptionally slow and they got our order wrong.
David O — Google review
This is the most reviewed restaurant in La Plata so we had to give it a shot. To be honest, I had much higher expectations and was disappointed by the food... The service and drinks were good, however. I ordered what was essentially chicken parmesan and it was OK I ate about half and had enough. I will not return.
Phillip S — Google review
We visited on a Saturday. Modelo apoeared on a 'draft beer' listing, but the beer list is limited to Quilmes and Patagonia. The first is NOT craft and the second only arguably so. The restaurant charges a 50 peso cover charge per table and does not accept credit or debit cards. We left without further ado.

Food is good+. What I don't like is the smoke policy. So I'll look for a place with a real no smoking one. Wondering what else can get to my nose coming from someone else lungs!!

Visitors praise the neatness of the place and excellent service along with the incredible combination of flavors and textures at reasonable prices.

(Translated by Google) Tremendous! The club sandwich was delicious and abundant. The potatoes are super generous. It could be a dish to share although it has plenty of bread. The already known flavors, but with power presentation. There are too many dishes to elevate. They do not have a vegan menu. They sell breads, sauces, wines and oils at good prices. The service is good BUT if you want a risoto, you should order it 20 minutes before because they make it on the spot. Very good level and abundant dishes, at a very good price 🙌 (Original) Tremendo! A good Argentinian steakhouse with a bar area that also has barbecue items on the menu. The restaurant is in the center of town and can seat quite a few people.
