Yarmouth

Yarmouth is a town, port and civil parish in the west of the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England. The town is named for its location at the mouth of the small Western Yar river. The town grew near the river crossing, originally a ferry, which was replaced with a road bridge in 1863. Wikipedia.

Steak house
On The Rocks is a highly regarded establishment known for its delectable cuisine and exceptional service. Diners are particularly impressed with the generous portion sizes, making it great value for money. The staff members are friendly and helpful, ensuring a positive dining experience. One of the main highlights is the unique concept of cooking food on hot rocks, which adds an element of excitement to the meal.
This was my first time ever cooking my own food in a restaurant in this manner and it was an amazing (tasty) experience and with the option of bottomless fries and salads that you can fry off on your slate in garlic butter. Also a great way to never have to send your steak back to the kitchen because it is to rare because you can cook it to YOUR standards. The servers are so lovely and care about your needs and the atmosphere even in the autumn when not very busy is great.

A favourite treat night for us , that's not silly expensive ,tho the drinks can catch you out and would benefit by having some drinks offers . But it's all about the excellent steak cuts sourced locally that in our four visits, I've never had to remove any gristle or veins , you can eat the lot ,with unlimited fries & salad that are also excellent & fresh . The manager Rob ,efficient and a joy ,ask him for a song . Dog friendly & booking advised at peak times . Tip ,sit near the doors ,20 tables cooking multiple steaks gets heady , and leave room for me .

Such a great concept and I love the hot stone novelty - expensive but excellent quality tuna steak. Very yummy dinner out. Just be warned anything you wear will stink of beef fat until thoroughly washed !

A brilliantly novel dining experience. Delicious food, great atmosphere, upbeat staff - can’t believe it’s taken us so many visits to Yarmouth over the last 16 years to finally visit.

This was a great place for dinner. Cooking your food exactly how you want it on your own lava stone is fun and easy, everything was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. It is quite a pricey dinner, but lovely for a treat!

Always a lovely experience, the food is great and the staff are always friendly. We currently went for our daughter’s 11th birthday as it’s her favourite place to eat. Thank you

A superb restaurant with a great theme, fantastic fresh food and wonderful service. Could not recommend this restaurant enough.

When you’re coming to On The Rocks, you’re coming for the experience. If you’ve never cooked your food on the rocks, then you’ll certainly enjoy doing it. The food was pretty good, and the chips are extremely tasty. All the food comes with bottomless chips and salad, which is nice. The meat was the best I’ve ever had, but it was pretty good. It’s kind of on the pricey side though - but that’s to be expected as it’s a restaurant in Yarmouth. Overall, I would recommend.

Coffee shop
After reading positive reviews, I visited the PO41 Yarmouth Coffee House and was not disappointed. This establishment embodies a genuine sense of care for its customers. The coffee options are great, with the added bonus of proper tea leaves that impressed even my dad. They offer a variety of milks and also provide dog biscuits, catering to all needs. The cakes are flavorful and reasonably priced.
Gorgeous and generously sized brownie, very rich, goes perfectly with the coffee. I went for the dark roast flat white: You have a choice of two coffees, the dark roast, which is quite mellow, I love it, but if you want something more hearty, ask for an extra shot or go straight to the medium roast, which is likely to come through the milk more strongly. Really friendly and efficient staff. Can get quite busy, but has up to four staff, so queues are very fast.

A lovely little shop which is more than a coffee stand (has indoor seating) but not quite a cafe, as the seating is limited and there is no toilet (4 people looked for one during our brief visit). The staff are very friendly, the coffee is very good and the cakes were delicious. If you love coffee and cake, don't need the loo and don't mind enclosed spaces this place is your cup of tea...or coffee.

Lovely coffee and great range of home made cakes, which are all a good size & delicious. Friendly staff & quick service.

The newly opened coffee house in Ryde. Part of the PO41 family is excellent. Thanks for the chat Erin & the coffee we took home in the pack was equally good as in the premises. Lovely views & cheerful staff. What more do you want? Photo from inside station area.

Small but perfectly formed oasis. Gorgeous cakes and good drinks. Lovely friendly people.

Tbh I’ve been here a few times and enjoyed my coffee and food. Went in with a friend recently and told the staff my coffee wasn’t very hot, therefore could it be heated up? Got a very frosty response from the girl making the coffee, questioning my complaint. Only to be told I’d have to go to the back of the queue and wait to have another one made, after a lengthy choice of words from her. The queue was very large. Absolutely no kindness from this girl whatsoever, just accusations. It was very embarrassing. Luckily a lady (could’ve been manageress) was sitting next to me doing computer work and asked me if everything was ok. I explained and she kindly re made my coffee. I understand they do a certain temperature, but my first one was Luke warm. I always big this lovely quaint cafe up but have to say, this one girls whole attitude really changed my experience. It was unkind and uncalled for. When someone is nothing but polite and that was me, the customer? I did not expect this backlash.

Always a friendly atmosphere and consistently great flat whites! Bacon sarnies and cakes are amazing too. Tiny but busy and the staff complete the orders efficiently and beautifully and in a welcoming way too.

After arriving on the Isle of Wight we decided to have a look round the nearest town, which was Yarmouth. Googled dog friendly places and chose this place. Food and drink was excellent, staff was great, was always busy with people constantly coming in for take outs (which is a good sign). Would definitely go back

Cafe
Nestled at the entrance of Yarmouth's historic wooden pier, The Gossips Cafe offers a delightful escape for anyone craving a cozy spot to enjoy tea and cake. With stunning views overlooking the Solent, this charming cafe welcomes guests without the need for reservations, ensuring a relaxed atmosphere as tables are assigned upon arrival.
A Stunning Yarmouth cafe. An enjoyable serene atmosphere, breathtaking views and good food options to tuck into, delightful desserts for the diabetic toothed. Once sat down, I’m reluctant to leave this little cafe heaven.

Went for breakfast so can only comment on that. Ordered Harbour breakfast consisting of 2 rashers, 1 sausage 1 fried egg 1 pot of beans. Bacon tasteless, sausage luke warm but tasty, egg tasteless, beans ok. Also had a pot of tea which was not to my liking. We also ordered smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and again eggs not seasoned .and tasteless and salmon of low quality. Disappointed. Service was however good. Cafe interior very nice and great view

Lovely cafe and friendly staff. Food was priced reasonably and a good standard.

What a fantastic find, especially if you don’t want to be ripped off at the pub next door. Great food with lovely friendly staff.

Visited early morning after popping over with the ferry. Lovely views overlooking the pier, managed to get a table right next to the window as wasn’t very busy at that time. We had breakfast which was tasty and a nice size portion. Would visit Gossips cafe again if in the area.

Nice cafe situated right next to Yarmouth Pier. There’s some parking in front of the cafe but presume in peak times this may be full majority of the time. Food is reasonably priced and service was good. I had a chilli con carne jacket potato and the portion and taste was really good. My partner had a crab sandwich which he said was nice. It did have some shell in it but they do warn you before hand that due to it being so fresh and hand picked this may happen.

Not a welcoming place. We bought 2 x cakes and 2 x lattes at £19, and we had to collect it ourself when clearly there are waitresses working here.. didnt feel welcomed at all.

I was visiting the Yarmouth area and stumbled on this nice looking café. My initial interaction with the staff was great where I ordered some food and desserts and was served swiftly which I was content with. The desserts are so so good but unfortunately the prawn and crab was one of the worst things Ive ever tried. Raw and foul odour emanated from the wrap so I genuinely could not take more than 1 bite and had to desert the food only eating the dessert. As I was still hungry I went back to order something else and this time at the register I had asked if the chicken was halal as I am *not* a Christian so needed to know if I am able to eat the chicken prepared in the the shop. The lady who took my question up to the chef was lovely and her service was stellar which I appreciate but unfortunately the cashier which was an old woman kept frowning and staring me down after that question unlike my first interaction with her which made me extremely uncomfortable. I was reconsidering ordering from there as the period of time between when the young lady went to the kitchen to check and came back felt so so bad with judgemental looks as if I did something wrong?? That attitude continued on as I checked out when she kept asking me if I wanted the chicken and pork (I cannot eat pork) or sweet chicken to which I answered sweet chicken. I guess she wasnt listening as two seconds later she asked again in an annoyed tone whether I wanted the sweet chicken or the other option to which I again politely answered sweet chicken please and went to pay. The receipt printing and conversation after was again all in an annoyed tone but I left it. This experience was definitely not something I appreciated, considering the first time I ordered was fine when nobody knew as a Muslim I eat halal food... In any case, the second round of actually edible food was good, I must say the pizza was absolutely amazing. I had a slice from my friends plate and it was so good so its something Id highly recommend. Remember to never order the shrimp and crab wrap as for me, the memory of taking a bite of that still sickens me and I would not wish it on anybody. Massive thanks to all the staff and chefs of the restaurant, they were great. It is truly a shame that a single interaction with the cashier brought this score down as I am still unhappy with how our conversation went and how she behaved and displayed poor hospitality.

Located in the charming coastal town of Yarmouth, The Kings Head is a beloved pub renowned for its fantastic atmosphere and excellent food and drinks. Visitors are greeted by a welcoming ambiance where locals and tourists mingle, creating a relaxed and enjoyable environment. The pub offers superb meals, with quick service ensuring that patrons can savor their delicious dishes promptly. My son and I called in for lunch. The pub was busy but not packed and the ambiance was pleasant. We had two main courses for £14 each and two soft drinks. The food was plentiful and tasty. I’d definitely return.

Best meal of the holiday... I had fish and chips with mushy peas.... Amazing, my wife had a steak pie and chips, the kids had a prawn sandwich that my son said was simply the best. Oh and a sea food starter that was great. Not badly priced at all.

Had dinner here on Friday. The staff was very nice and friendly. The place was cozy, and the food was good. It was served quick and hot!

The pub is an absolute delight to visit. It's such a fun place to explore. The food is also great. Excellent chips and very fresh crab in the seafood platter. Everyone is so friendly. It's right next to the ocean. Quite pricey but I've heard that's just how it is in isle of wight. Overall lovely experience.

I had a fantastic experience at The Kings Head! I ordered the mac and cheese and can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had - rich, creamy, and full of flavour. My mum had the scampi light bite and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Despite the pub being busy with lots of reservations, the staff kindly found us a table, which we really appreciated. They also went above and beyond by letting me use a plug to charge my phone, which was such a thoughtful touch. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was genuinely kind and attentive. I’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend The Kings Head to anyone in the area!

Went for a meal on Friday evening with family, my wife’s food had no resemblance to that described on the menu, peppered beef salad, she sent it back. No one came to ask if she would like an alternative and no apology, she had to go to the bar to ask for something else. I had the catch of the day, lemon sole on new potatoes, the fish was tiny and the meal tasteless. My son ordered pork belly which although tasty was 50% fat. The seafood starter was good. £100 wasted, we won’t eat here again. Service terrible.

Recently reopened the Kings Head is conveniently situated in the centre of Yarmouth. We had a great Sunday roast there this week and they were one of the few places serving after 2:30 in the afternoon. Good service and good food. Friendly staff. Came out stuffed.

Had a lovely meal here this evening. The staff were lovely, welcoming and attentive. My husband ordered the burger, which he enjoyed and I had the veggie curry which was fabulous. For starters we shared the salt and pepper squid which was beautifully cooked. All in all we had a lovely couple of hours before catching the ferry home. I would definitely recommend.

Went here for a meal after a day at the Needles. Nice pub feel, an eclectic mix of brass things, boats and baggage on the walls, but a light and airy place. The food was excellent, between us we had fish n chips, and the sirloin. Couldn't fault mine, beautiful piece of meat, excellent peppercorn sauce and fresh hot chips fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. My other half's fish n chips were equally as good. Lots of tables with 'reserved' signs on, so booking advantageous I'd say. Its no more than 5 mins walk from the long stay car park.

What a wonderful pub to enjoy a bite to eat and a nice pint. Fantastic service from the friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. I had the cajun salmon and haddock fish cakes with fries and salad which was superb. Also the ale is top quality 👌 highly recommended

We've enjoyed our food and time here. The food was well cooked and the service was very pleasant. We had duck in red currant sauce, steak and fish. Would come again.

This pub and the staff are just brilliant. We (family of 5 all adults) were in a terrible rush to catch the 7pm ferry on Wednesday 10th September. We had 3/4 of an hour. The staff pulled out all the stops to serve us in their lovely restaurant with the most superb meals in time for us to catch our ferry. Sadly I have forgotten the wonderful young ladies name who helped us, but everyone was kind and efficient. The food was piping hot and delicious and the atmosphere excellent along with the beer and wine! A traditional English inn with a great atmosphere and superb food. We had fish and chips and burgers. THANK YOU to a brilliant team and great place to eat, drink and relax!

Our favourite place in Yarmouth for drinks and food. The barman remembered our order for drinks on our second visit. The food is just wonderful. I had duck which was cooked to perfection. All staff are friendly and helpful. Can't wait to make a 4th visit when I'm next in Yarmouth

Cracking find! Had a family of 8 here and every meal was top quality; from chicken burger to ham egg and chips - all high quality ingredients and cooked to perfection. Very fast service and extremely welcoming - especially for those with dogs! Thank you

Food was absolutely delicious. The crab bruschetta was beautiful. It was my first time trying crab but I’m so glad I had it. My partner had the lamb and was extremely happy with it. Both plates were empty. Very happy!. Would highly recommend stopping here. The staff were really friendly and welcoming too. Thank you
