Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Fort Marlborough, also known as Benteng Marlborough, is a star-shaped former British fort located in Bengkulu. Built between 1714 and 1720 by the East India Company, it replaced an earlier fort called Fort York. Despite being in an earthquake-prone area, the fort remains remarkably well-preserved with thick walls arranged in a star shape and surrounded by dry moats.
Beautiful site. Full of historical story about Bengkulu when British and Holland invade them. Nice place to study and enjoy Bengkulu
Rosa I — Google review
If you love history and/or the colonial story of the English and Dutch in this part of the world then definitely go here. The fort is well maintained and there is a private tourguide who gives excellent information. Inside the fort you can freely walk around and also go up to the walls from where you have a beautiful view over the city and a little bit the ocean. One thing the museum could improve is to provide English speaking guides and English written information. Everything is in Bahasa Indonesia and clearly not prepared for international visitors. Other than that we enjoyed the tour.

Its a fort, and has some interesting exhibitions
Matthijs P — Google review
One of historical place in Bengkulu. The architecture is very unique and still original, because they never have a significant renovation. From the top of this port, you can see the beach and the perfect sunset. Going to Bengkulu? You must putting this biggest port in Asia at the top of your visiting list.
Asti P — Google review
Nice old British fort in the center of the old town of Bengkulu - staff is helpful (Indonesian only) and they have nice exposition rooms inside the fort - unfortunately only in Indonesian. Entry price is 5k/person (2021) and you can freely walk around in/on the whole fort.
Koen V — Google review
The management is better now. Maybe there should be regular events and also a relaxing place like a coffee shop.
Teguh K — Google review
Historical site where you can learn more about English occupation in Bencoolen. The place was clean and well maintained. After you finish fort tour, you can walk to the beach around the fort.

Clean, cheap, and very well-maintaned building and yard. Wide sea side view on top. Not too crowded in holiday yet still lively. Don't expect museum-like environment, it is noisy and no historical explanation.

Lake
Nature & Parks
Dendam Tak Sudah Lake, also known as A Neverending Grudge Lake, is a serene spot with a poignant legend. Despite its ominous name, the lake offers peaceful surroundings and stunning views. Visitors can enjoy leisurely activities like boating and fishing while taking in the mesmerizing reflection of the surrounding greenery on the water. Although located near a busy road, it's best to visit early in the morning for tranquility and clear views of mountains with clouds hanging beautifully in the sky.

Muhammad A — Google review
This place is actually very beautiful. Unfortunately, some local people sell some random stuffs across the street and they sometimes litter on the lake. I don't recommend you to buy food there since the price is much more expensive than the normal price. However, this place is still worth to visit. One more thing, there is a rare variety of orchids called 'Anggrek Pensil'(Vanda hookeriana) which grows around the lake!
Dian P — Google review
This lake is actually a calming beautiful lake if only it's not located right by the side of a busy road. I personally prefer to enjoy this lake early in the morning when the street is not too busy, so I can enjoy the lake with its serenity and fresh air. In the morning, when the sky clear, you can see mountains with clouds hanging beautifully on the eastern sky. To enjoy the lake, you can sit on chairs provided by the street vendors or just do a quick stop and stand few minutes and go. If you choose to sit, you have to buy drinks or snacks like fresh coconut, sodas, grilled corn, etc but the price will be more expensive than any other places in town.

Dendam Tak Sudah Lake, located in Bengkulu, Indonesia, is a breathtaking natural reserve that offers visitors the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature. The area is not only a protected natural park but also a popular tourist destination. Panjang Beach, also known as Bahari Pasir Panjang, is a low-key destination offering a variety of activities such as swimming, sunbathing, and surfing. Located on the west coast of Bengkulu city in Sumatra, this beach spans 7 kilometers and features clean white sand and clear waters. Visitors can enjoy playing in the sand, water sports, jogging along the shore, or simply basking in the fresh sea air.
Panjang Beach is one of the many destination in Bengkulu We decide to visit panjang beach near Samola and Garis Waktu Coffeshop since its our main objective. We arrived at 5ish PM and still get better view alongside the beach and Pulau Tikus I advise to avoid this place at night because there is no light even on the road
Faizuddin R — Google review
Long stretch of sandy beach on the southeast side.of Bengkulu - no swimming material, and (unfortunately as on many beaches in Indonesia) with plenty of rubbish. The stalls do not seem to bother as most locals only come here to sit, relax talk and drink/eat and have no interest at all for the beach.

Museum
Bengkulu Museum stands as a vital cultural hub in Bengkulu, showcasing the rich tapestry of history and heritage shaped by various influences, particularly from its colonial past under British rule. This unique museum houses an extensive array of artifacts, images, audio recordings, and ancient texts that narrate the story of the province. Visitors can immerse themselves in Bengkulu's diverse culture while also exploring nearby attractions like the stunning Rafflesia Arnoldy flower and historical sites along Soekarno-Hatta Street.
Its bengkulu city museum.. Its consist about history of bengkulu from culture to history of the provinces..

By the time I arrived at Bengkulu I cannot tell what’s different about this city amongst other city in Sumatera. But then i went to this museum and ‘boom’ there were so much about this city/province culture! I’m suggesting people who are traveling to Bengkulu to visit this museum. The ticket price just 3000 idr!
Natio K — Google review
I love the variations and the quality of the traditional arts, unfortunately the rooms inside the museum are kinda hot which make it inconvenient to stay for a while

Great place to learn about Bengkulu’s history! Ma’am Rita gives great tours in English
Hannah S — Google review
Museum was dark with few lights. Display cases had dirty glass. Except for a few signs near front entrance, Bahasa Indonesia is only language on display. The large glass doors were chained shut which made for a fire hazard. Since air conditioning was turned off it was very hot inside. There is a long exterior stairway to get to front entrance. To see all exhibits it is necessary to negotiate two more stairways in both directions. The staff was laughing at me as I left in frustration. (No I am not making this up)

The provincial museum, Musium Negeri Propinsi Bengkulu is worth a visit because of the historic and cultural value. The museum features a large display of interesting traditional costumes, housing, implements, and other geological and archaeological items. In my mind, this museum has interesting histories to inspire and educate visitors. I hope the local government can provide a web page for this museum to show more people what this museum has to offer. The museum is conveniently located on Jl. Pembangunan No.8 Padang Harapan, and it has easy parking. It is open daily from Tuesday to Friday - 8 am to 3 pm, and it is closed on Sundays, Mondays, Saturdays and public holidays. Entry costs Rp. 2,500 per person. Con: it will be a challenging visit for foreign visitors as English speaking guide is rarely available.

Pantai Tapak Paderi, located in Bengkulu City, has a unique historical significance as it was once the landing site for exiled Paderi Tribe. The beach features a long stretch of white and brownish sandy coastline with a protected cove at its southern end, making it an ideal spot to witness breathtaking sunsets. Additionally, the area is home to historical remnants of Fort Marlborough, adding cultural value to the natural beauty.
What an upgrade! Take time to visit while in Bengkulu.
Julie D — Google review
Tapak Paderi Beach is located in Bengkulu City which is located at Kebun Keling, Kec. Pls. Segara, Bengkulu City, Bengkulu 38115. The marine beauty of Tapak Paderi Beach is covered in historical value. As far as 200m, there are historical remains of Fort Marlborough, making this beach not just an ordinary tourist attraction. Tapak Paderi Beach is directly adjacent to the Indian Ocean and has a long coastline that adds to the charm of the beauty of this beach. This beach, which is geographically a bay, has a fairly shallow depth, making Tapak Paderi Beach a water tourism attraction that is safe for all ages. So that makes Tapak Paderi beach suitable for the development of surfing activities or what is also called surfing. This beach has potential wave spots suitable for beginners that must be tried for tourists who want to try, what it's like to surf on the waves. Tapak Paderi Beach, which is commonly called Bengkulu Point surfers, this beach has a concrete breakwater, which is called the local community. The charm of the sunset on this beach is fairly beautiful. The area around the beach is also clean with fine sand texture. Apart from the amazing sunset views on this beach, it turns out that Tapak Paderi is also a beginner class surfing destination in Bengkulu City. The wave conditions here, which reach three to four meters, are perfect for surfers of all levels. While surfing on the waves, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the green mountains and the cool breeze. The right time for surfers to visit this beach is from May to December. Because at that time the weather and waves were considered ideal for surfing. But in other months, between January and April, although you can't surf, the beauty and charm of Tapak Beach is very interesting for visits and tourist holidays to unwind your daily activities. Another unique phenomenon that can be explored here is the moment when 1,000 baby turtles were released by Marine Natural Resources for the Nation (LATUN). This beach is preferred as an attractive family tourist destination, it is also a favorite place to enjoy the sunset and sunrise and the typical beach breeze, take pictures, play sand, sunbathe, and so on.

Located near the Fort Marlborough historical site of Bengkulu. Best to bring young children here or to take a rest under a tree shades. Not so attractive compared with what you can see along Pantai Panjang.
Rezare A — Google review
Tapak Padri (sometimes written Paderi) beach is located near the fort Marlborough and is easy to reach by angkot (public city transport). It is a nice place to wind down a few hours to talk to the locals and to watch the sun set. Sometimes it is possible to surf here at high tight. The swimming here is not too bad. Tapak Padri beach is crowded with young locals and street vendors on weekends and public holidays. Local surf community members could be found here at 4 to 6 P.M. From Tapak Padri beach you can get to most the nearby tourist attractions on foot.

The food was okay. I ordered the ikan bakar and cah kangkung. The staff was pretty attentive and helpful. It also has a plenty of parking lot and a nice view. I was the only guest there. So even if there were staff, the interior looked rusty and old adding to the uncomfortable feeling. Maybe a rebranding or renovation will be so much better. Keep doing great Aloha!

Aloha Resto is one resto located right across the beach that serve national and western foods with decent taste , nice ambiance for youngsters, professionals and family with indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is in English so it's good for the westerners to get better descriptions of the foods and drinks. The price is average for some and quite expensive for the rest. Beer and wifi are available. Overall it's nice resto but need to improve the service. The waiters had to back and forth to confirm of the availability of our order.
Delita F — Google review
Nice place for meeting and eating same time. I enjoyed my lunch with backed fresh fish and coconut juice.

Nice location by the beach and a good western menu but the service is awful and the food is just ok. We had to ask for a menu even though 4 or 5 staff were standing around. My husband had to get his own knife and fork and he had finished his meal by the time mine arrived. The menu said the fish and chips came with salad, which it didn't. When we asked, the waiter said the sauce was the salad??? And my pizza when it did arrive was not properly cooked - the dough still soft. All in all, disappointing.

If you are a fan of pindang fish, Pindang 77 is a culinary destination that should not be missed. Located in a strategic shopping area in Bengkulu, this restaurant is famous for its signature dish, pindang patin, which has a distinctive taste of Sumatra. In addition, other menu items such as chicken, tilapia, and fish tofu are also ready to delight your taste buds.
Know this place from google maps. Clean restaurant, friendly staff. I ordered tempoyak pindang patin, taste unique & delicious. The taste different from Palembang. They served 2 types sambal, both were good too. They accept cash & transfer bank only

Went here for lunch. I ordered the pindang patin. It was sooo good I like it so much. You can taste the spices, herbs, but not too spicy. The fish has a lot of meat. Reasonable price and portion. It is just the staff was not really helpful and quick. I hope it can be improved better.

Pindang 77 Bengkulu City Bengkulu February 2020 Tempoyak Pindang Kepala Patin for 35 K IDR++ Various sources who do not know each other all pointed to this place as the best pindang place in town, so i had to give it a try. Admittedly this is the freshest patin (Pangasius) i have ever had and I guess in that light they did work with it magnificently, but what this meant is that the pindang broth itself should not overpower the fish. And overpower it did not - the broth was nice and subtle, but that's exactly my beef with it - that it was a bit too soft and subtle in regards to its flavour profile. Perhaps i am a bit more used to other pindangs in which the strength of the yellow broth is essential in imparting its flavours into whatever was cooked in it, but i really could have used some more heat and spiciness. Even the tempoyak (sambal made with fermented durian) became more of a subtle aftertaste rather than the strong pungency i have come to expect out of the namesake. But i guess this then probably becomes a good way to introduce both pindang and tempoyak to those who prefers a softer palate. The 8 K++ for 4 fried tempeh was quite okay for that price. The 15 K++ cah kangkung was also quite ample and nice, but i have a suspicion they cheated a bit. Sadly the 12 K++ avocado juice was too watered down and the 7 K++ for a portion of rice also kinda hurts. However, on its own 35 K++ for such a huge piece of really fresh fish is amazing value for money. I know this is kind of the boondocks, but this is definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area. #good #food #in #bengkulu #indonesia #pindang #tempoyak #durian #worth

I was about to give 0, but there is no 0 star..the food was tasteless, they didn't put the price on the menu which is not very nice.
