Nature & Parks
Park
Liberty State Park, located in Jersey City at the mouth of the Hudson River, offers breathtaking waterfront views of Manhattan's skyline, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty. The park features miles of tree-lined walkways and large lawns, as well as a natural preserve with tidal marshes. Visitors can stroll along Freedom Way, cycle on winding bike tracks, and visit the poignant Empty Sky Memorial honoring New Jersey's victims of the September 11 attacks.
It’s clean, open, and has one of the best views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. There are plenty of paths for walking or biking, open fields for families, and peaceful spots by the waterfront to just sit and take in the view. We parked at the ferry lot ($7 for the day) which made it super convenient to take the Statue Cruises ferry to Liberty Island. The park itself is free, spacious, and not as crowded as Manhattan parks, which makes it a great escape. Highly recommend visiting whether you’re taking the ferry or just want a relaxing day outdoors.

Beautiful views of the NYC skyline. Beware that parking is not staffed and the owners of the lot want you to pay via a smartphone. Also on the grass, beware the dog poop 💩. It is literally everywhere - best stick to the paved paths. But did I mention the stunning views of the NYC skyline? Still worth it - for sure.

Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ, is a beautiful and peaceful spot with amazing views of the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan skyline, and Ellis Island. The park is spacious, great for walking, jogging, or biking along the waterfront paths. There’s plenty of green space for picnics and relaxing. The park is also clean and well-maintained, though some restrooms could use better upkeep. It’s a perfect place for a day out with family or friends while enjoying nature and stunning city views.

Liberty State Park is one of the most beautiful parks in New Jersey! It offers breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. The park is very spacious, perfect for walking, jogging, biking, or having a picnic. Parking is convenient, and there are playgrounds and green areas, making it a great spot for families. The Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial is truly moving and a must-see during your visit. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape with stunning views of New York City, this park is absolutely worth visiting.

Liberty State Park is such a gift to all residents of Jersey City and visitors!!! The views are incredible!!!! You. An hike, walk around, lay on the grass. There’s a HUGE awesome playground for children. Bathrooms, portable potties. I just LOVE it here so much! You can also walk by the water and always catch the most beautiful sunrise and moonrise!!!!! And on the opposite side you can catch the sunset if you’re walking toward the boats or on the reflections on the NYC buildings!!! Wonderful place! There’s also a restaurant if I’m not wrong, I have never been, however! Oh and there’s lots of grills around for people to enjoy a bbq during summer and it’s dog-friendly! And you can also bike around and all that too!

This New York iconic destination still has its charm, but currently under major restoration, so you can’t even come close to the base. It’s full of heavy machinery making constant noise, which is ruining a lot the whole impression. The museum on premises we liked a lot, very educational and you can actually touch the pieces of the statue like face or foot. As everyone has probably already said the statue looks way smaller in a real life than you would expect, but we liked our visit overall. Be ware that last ferry to New Jersy is at 5:45 pm, but all the cafe and gift shops are closing at 5pm.

The park is perfect for walking, jogging, picnicking, or just relaxing by the water. It’s very clean, well-maintained, and family-friendly, with plenty of open spaces for kids to play. The ferry access to Liberty Island and Ellis Island is very convenient, making it a great spot for tourists as well. I especially loved the peaceful atmosphere and scenic walking paths. A must-visit if you’re in the area!

Liberty State Park is a beautiful escape right across the river from Manhattan. The park offers stunning views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the New York City skyline. It’s spacious, clean, and perfect for walking, biking, picnics, or just relaxing by the water. Plenty of green lawns, pathways, and even spots for fishing. It’s less crowded than the touristy areas and feels peaceful. Parking is convenient and reasonably priced. A hidden gem for locals and visitors alike!

Non-profit organization
Situated on the western edge of Liberty State Park, the Liberty Science Center has been a popular destination for over 20 years. With four floors and 12 galleries, it offers interactive science exhibits, a planetarium, and a 3D theater. The museum's permanent collection includes Skyscraper!, an exhibit on skyscraper construction and design, Energy Quest which explores energy production, and Wildlife Challenge featuring zip lines and physical challenges during the summer.
Absolutely loved our visit! The planetarium show was impressive — the visuals were stunning, and the narration was engaging for both kids and adults. It really made us feel like we were traveling through space. The Titanic exhibition was incredibly moving. Seeing the real artifacts, learning the personal stories of passengers, and walking through the recreated rooms made history come alive. The experience is both educational and emotional. Highly recommend visiting — perfect for a family day out or a weekend activity. Staff were friendly, and everything was well-organized.

I haven’t been to the liberty science Center since I was a child. I went for the this weekend and we had an amazing time. There is so much to do. It’s interactive. Everything is clean the staff we’re all knowledgeable and friendly. They had a variation of different activities for different age groups, and specifically we went because my son was very interested in the Titanic exhibit which we enjoyed my only negative is that you have to pay for extras for example the planetarium and any traveling exhibits which I don’t think you should have to pay extra for. Parking is $7.

It was awesome. We got to spend the entire day there. We did the T-Rex 3D movie, The Ocean 3D movie, the Titanic exhibit, and the most amazing time at the Planeturim. If you enjoy looking at the stars and learning about the earth this is my recommendation. The seats were comfortable. Plenty of room, not very disabled friendly. Carriages are allowed in certain areas but you are required to park them where designated. Big open space. You don't feel like a sardine. Elevators are available. Great place for children of all ages. Each main exhibit is a separate price ( could get pricey) food court is available. Helpful staff. Please note...you do have to go through security, which could delay your entrance. If you go back to your car , you will have to wait in line again. I don't recommend leaving and trying to re-enter. Please do use the bathroom before you sit down and watch the movie. The movies run for about 25 minutes. No eating or drinking is allowed in the theater. I wish they had paper brochures. Everything is online. Bathrooms on every floor.

We first came to LSC in 1994 and it was the coolest place on earth. It has definitely changes over time and is still absolutely amazing. A great family deal, even better if you are a member of a reciprocal children's museum. Reserve your tickets early, especially if you decide to brave the crowds on a weekend. I'm glad we had a day off to go at a non-peak time.
Stef G — Google review
Took the grandkids for our first visit recently. Had a lot of fun. A good amount to do and see. My grandson LOVED the train display. My only complaint about it was that it was elevated so high that the kids couldn't see it without being picked up. I understand that floor level would be difficult to keep children from climbing in, but at 3' off the floor there's very little they could see without being hoisted up. Granddaughter enjoyed the Daniel the Tiger exhibit. Both loved the Dino Dig, but with the temps dropping, I'm not sure how long that will be open this time of year. My biggest complaint, would be the exhibits at extra costs. Tickets weren't cheap. Even if they had to add a couple of dollars to entrance fees, it would make it more accessible for everyone. Additional charges for the dinosaur and the space exhibits shouldn't be necessary. $5.00 per person for the "haunted train ride" was absolutely ridiculous. All in all, a fun day with my grandchildren, but after lunch and the gift shop, it was a rather expensive day.

While there are interactive exhibits and despite the large size of the museum, it seemed like there could have been more to see and do. The Tesla electric show was a disappointment. The presenters did their best but the program content was too difficult for kids to understand and at the same time there was no story that explained the science that was presented for adults either.
Adamltw — Google review
This is a great place to visit in new jersey, where there are a lot of fun activities that you can do and engage children with them. There is a planetarium inside of it, where they would explain in detail about black holes and also about dinosaurs as well. They also keep different species of reptiles and explain their role in the environment,

A beautiful gem hidden in Jersey City just minutes from the JSQ PATH station, it has many galleries and unique art. It was an amazing experience. I really loved the fluorescent lighting exhibit because it had many illusions, such as the round lights. So cool. So spacious, and a great canvas for art. So many amazing artists under one roof Easy to find and get to and plenty of parking. This Place of Art is accessible to handicapped and disabled people as well

Mana Contemporary hosted a fashion show and my designs were showcased on the runway. I had enough time to have a look around before i started setting up for the show. The space is huge with different sections and work of art to see. The team behind the event especially Martu were warm, patient and professional all through my day at the space.

Front desk worker was rude, incapable of interacting with public and became physically aggressive. Instead of telling me and my mother that the studio area was off limits to the public (mind you there are no signs stating do not enter, and looks very inviting). He yelled repeatedly that there was “nothing there” to our misunderstanding, we thought there would be some glass exhibits showcasing art, which there was. After the 2nd time telling us there was nothing there his tone became harsher and harsher. Then he FINALLY said that the area was off limits to the public, unbeknownst to us but I guess that was his way of telling us no? He was told how rude he was and became angry. When my mother went to go take a picture of him he aggressively rushed up my 5’1 foot tall mother to do who knows what, and I had to put myself between them. Lucky I didn’t call 911. From the very beginning when we were near the fluorescent lights exhibit, and painting by the bathroom he yells over to us that there “is nothing there” Is that any way to talk to visitors? Only the person behind the front desk looked worried when he rushed my mother. The people working at the cafe and dining looked completely unbothered as if nothing had happened, says a lot about the landscape.

Memorial
Sights & Landmarks
The Empty Sky Memorial, nestled in Liberty State Park, serves as a heartfelt tribute to the 749 New Jersey residents who tragically lost their lives during the September 11 attacks. This striking memorial features two towering steel walls that point towards Ground Zero, inscribed with the names of those victims. The design is both symbolic and poignant; each wall mirrors one side of the former World Trade Center towers, while their height reflects the buildings' proportions if they were laid on their sides.
The Empty Sky Memorial in Jersey City is a moving and beautifully designed tribute to the victims of 9/11. Located within Liberty State Park, it offers a powerful experience paired with serene surroundings and incredible views. Parking & Accessibility: There is spacious paid parking nearby, which makes visiting convenient. It’s easy to access by car, and the area is well-signposted. Landscaping & Maintenance: The gardens and landscaping around the memorial are well-maintained, with neatly arranged flower beds and greenery that add to the peaceful atmosphere. It’s a calm and reflective space, perfect for spending some quiet time. Views & Setting: One of the standout features is the spectacular view of the New York City skyline. The twin walls of the memorial align directly toward Ground Zero, adding a powerful layer of symbolism. The waterfront location makes it a scenic spot for both reflection and photography. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Empty Sky Memorial is a must-see when visiting NJ/NY. The design is stunning — I love the reflections, clean lines, and geometric nature of the structure. It’s also an incredible photo spot with superb views of the NYC skyline. Parking is free and fairly easy, though it can get crowded on weekends and peak times. Truly a beautifully built and meaningful place that leaves an impression.

I went last year on 9/11/ 2024 and they had organized parking. It was beautiful, they had a very lovely ceremony and it was definitely something to witness being there. I got there kind of early around 4-5pm and waited and walked around the Liberty Park area until it got to dusk where they started to host the ceremony and the memorial lights in NYC started to turn on.

Really powerful memorial where you can feel the spirit and respect towards the people from New Jersey statue who had passed away, their names have been written on 2 walls which also open view on world trade centre. Amazing views on Hutson river and nyc in the evening!!!

As a retired firefighter, visiting the Empty Sky Memorial was a powerful experience. Walking up, you first take in the history around you, the train, the skyline and then the memorial comes into view. Absolutely breathtaking. It brought me right back to where I was on that September 11th morning, and reminded me of how life changed forever after the attacks. This memorial honors the victims and the heroes we lost in such a beautiful, moving way. Don’t skip this one. Parking was simple with a smartphone, and as a bonus, I was able to get a ticket to see Lady Liberty up close.

Nestled in the heart of Jersey City's historic downtown, Van Vorst Park is a charming public square with a rich history dating back to 1835. Named after the Van Vorst family, early European settlers in the area, this park is surrounded by 19th century brownstones and townhouses, including the notable Heppenheimer Mansion.
My safe place and the reason why I moved to Jersey city in 2019! So beautiful, well taken care of, lovely weekend farmer’s markets, and community. Only thing is some dog owners allow their dogs to go in the No Dog zone and plenty of irresponsible dog owners allow their dogs in the dog runs who shouldn’t be there. I have a dog myself but that doesn’t entitle me to curtail rules or courtesy to my fellow neighbors and park goers. Love the two little small libraries too!
Brenda M — Google review
This park is truly magical through the seasons and a great place to hang out if you're searching for solitude. It feels safe both day and night as it's well lit. The farmer's market on Saturday morning has become a staple for us. The kids playground is great and the new dog park is a serious improvement over the muddy mess it was before (note: it's almost always packed with dogs). Kudos to the JC community for taking such great care of this beautiful park.

It’s so pretty, there’s a small fountain in the middle where the birds are bathing. I’ve noticed some beautiful blue flowers on a bush that I’ve never seen before & also hydrangeas which are thriving. It’s well maintained & clean. Razza is an intimate pizzeria located in Jersey City, known for its artisanal wood-fired pizzas and a bar offering Italian craft beer and cocktails. The restaurant gained international recognition for its outstanding culinary offerings, with The New York Times crowning it as having the best pizza in New York and 50 Best naming it the Best Pizza in North America.
Came here today for my birthday dinner because n y brother said their funghi pizza was his favorite. We ordered the funghi, margherita, and the santo pizza. I really liked the funghi and santo pizza. We also order the kale salad which was okay. Definitely would come back for their pizza! Highly recommend to make reservations because they were already full as soon as they opened.
Hyo A — Google review
The pizza at Razza is technically perfect and has a crust that is steady despite all the topics. There is no flop at all in the pizza and the airiness is truly stunning. The kale Caesar is not special, funny order it. The flavors of the pizzas could be so much better, but the pizza is structurally perfect The Wine list is mediocre at best, and there’s no coffee when you get dessert. Dessert is so good, great tiramisu, great olive oil cake.
Hajir S — Google review
This place is always busy — we went right at opening (5 PM on a Wednesday) and by 5:30 it was packed. We only got a table for an hour, so definitely book ahead if you can. The menu’s small but the pizzas are fantastic. We had the honey pizza and the mushroom pizza — both were super flavorful, light, and well-balanced. Easily one of the best pizzas I’ve had in NJ. Cocktails were just okay, so I’d stick with wine or beer. Pizzas are about $25-30 each, and depending on your appetite you might need more than one for two people. Service and interior are fine — nothing fancy, but the pizza makes it worth it. Perfect spot for a casual date night or a hangout with friends.
Ivanna K — Google review
Probably one of, if not the, best pizza I’ve had (even miles better than some of the best I’ve had in Italy tbh). I want to work here just so I can be around those scents all day long. The pizza was incredible of course but even the appetizers and sides were all delicious and I just wanted to keep eating. The service and ambiance was also very cool and I would just love to spend hours here with good food, wine, and good company.
Stephen G — Google review
This was our NYC pizza spot and it absolutely delivered! Fast, friendly, clean, and full of that confident charm that comes from a place that knows it’s good (and is right about it). The atmosphere feels welcoming and easy, the service sharp and kind. We ordered the Sausage Pizza and the Margherita, and both were exceptional. The sausage had just the right amount of heat and richness, balanced by that glimmer of chili oil that made every bite addictive. The Margherita was everything it should be light, fresh, perfectly blistered crust with those bright pops of basil and creamy mozzarella. And then their Tiramisu; impossibly soft, rich, and espresso-kissed. Everything here feels intentional: simple ingredients treated with care, a respect for craft without the fuss. If you’re looking for the pizza experience to define your New York (or nearby Jersey City) trip, this is it.
M K — Google review
Went here with my family on a nice Saturday. Reservations were almost impossible- had to make over a month in advance. Completely worth it. After a brief wait to be seated, it was clear it would be impossible to pick anything-everything looked so good. Ordered a few appetizers, and the blew me away. The meatballs were other-worldly. After getting some pizzas, I didn’t want to leave. The pizza is thin but filling, and so flavorful. I would highly recommend the rossa pizza, or the pepperoni. Finally, we met the owner, who was extremely kind. Honestly just a great experience.

Last night we took a ferry to NJ for the sole purpose of trying Razza. What a great excursion. Razza has a fun, hip vibe. We sat at the bar and started with the meatballs. Fluffy, delicious with in a pool of excellent tomato sauce. I didn’t see a single table without an order. The beet and heirloom tomato salad were both fresh and plentiful to share. But the star of the show is the crispy, pizza. We only had the Santo and it lived up to the hype. Next time, less starters and more pizza! We finished with the seasonal olive oil cake. Fresh peaches with a lemon curd and homemade whipped cream. Perfect.

Razza Pizza Artigianale (275-277 Grove Street, Jersey City, NJ ) is the only pizzeria ever to receive a three start review from NYT. It is ranked 22 globally. Hence what accolade can you give to Razza that has not been already bestowed upon this pizza place. Razza is one of the best pizza places, in a region, which is one of the best pizza region of America. The praise that Razza has earned is well deserved. I ordered DI NATALE (a red pie) Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, pine nuts, olives, golden raisins, garlic, basil, chili oil CALABRESE (a white pie) Fresh mozzarella, shaved onions, calabrese pepper (instead of fermented chili paste), ricotta, oregano, parmigiano Typically I order more, and take the left-over home for the next day, but the night I visited Razza that was not an option. I ordered just two pies (one per person). Everything was just excellent.

Italian restaurant
Battello is a trendy restaurant in Jersey City, offering modern Italian cuisine with a focus on seafood. Opened in 2014, it boasts stunning views of the Hudson River and the NYC skyline. The industrial-chic eatery features nautical elements and is popular for weddings and events. With an extensive wine list and innovative cocktails, Battello's menu includes oysters, seafood, pastas, and seasonal entrees prepared with fresh ingredients.
Enjoyed a beautiful summer evening here. The restaurant atmosphere outside and inside is a wonderful mix of casual luxury. Loved the interior design elements which were warm. The views are definitely worth it. Pair all that with a thoughtful and innovative menu and you have a memorable experience. I would highly recommend the tuna tartare and octopus starter. Everyone’s entrees at the table were exquisite and beautifully presented. The drinks were excellent and strong with magical combinations. Primavera passion was a favorite. I would have appreciated slightly bigger portions for sharing and tasting. At the price you end up spending on a dinner here, it would be thoughtful to serve a creative complimentary bread roll ( to mop up all the amazing sauces in the appetizers!) Service while being pleasant and adequate was hugely lacking in warmth and friendliness and no one went the extra step to be welcoming as a whole staff. I recommend going around 7:30 pm for a beautiful sunset hour. And be prepared for a minimum of $110 per person (cocktail/ appetizer/ entree / dessert/ coffee ) The views and atmosphere is stunning.
Visitsparta N — Google review
We dined at Battello tonight. It was a mild early fall night and the patio and doors were open. The views of Manhattan are excellent and the sun dipped below the light clouds right at sunset and put a warm red glow on the city. We initially sat inside the doors but a large party came in. They weren't especially loud but it got busy and took some relaxation out of our moment. We asked the manager if we could move outside to the patio and they accommodated us with no questions asked. It made our night. They have an impressive cocktail list and local and national beers. I opted for a 902 Brewing Path Pale Ale. Quite good. My wife ordered the Emmy James cocktail and was pleased. For an appetizer we got the Roasted Spanish Octopus. IMO the sauce was perfect but the Octopus was overdone and a bit tough. For dinner, we both ordered the Fennel & Ginger Crusted Pork Chop. I opted for French fries rather than the mashed potatoes but both starches were perfect. The chops we tender and cooked perfectly. They pre-slice and pour the sauce on top which is great. The red cabbage and red pepper relish complimented the pork well. No regrets here, the chops were excellent. For dessert we shared the Chocolate Budino with a cappuccino. Overall it was an excellent night with great service, excellent food and a beautiful view. We'll be back.

This is for special occasions, great place on the water, parking was no problem, we had pasta with Lamb excellent dish, Burrata and tomato said it came with sourdough pesto , but that was just a tiny editable cracker on top, the dish was still excellent, we ordered a glass of wine, which came 1/4 full, that was not too good. The sword fish was very good. The overall experience was very good, it is Italian gourmet food.

Pleasant staff, great teamwork by the team, classy interior, good food, high ceiling dining. Limited parking space, valet parking available. Clean restroom. High chair and koala care seen. Beautiful view of manhattan skyline. Al fresco dining during warm days. They also offer bookings for events. Highly recommended for dates and anniversaries. See images for further reference.

Had an incredible evening at Battello! Samantha was absolutely amazing, very kind, generous & made us feel very welcome. The ambiance is very relaxing & cozy. The seafood tower had a little bit of everything to satisfy our tastebuds.

8.5/10 Tiramisu Classico 8.5/10 Steak Frites 4.5/10 RD Burger: Medium Lovely food, however the yellow sauce for the steak frites was gross, it tasted like straight nachos cheese from Walmart. Honestly only au poivre sauce should be served with steak. The tiramisu was so delicious.

It was truly an excellent experience, and I loved the food. The drinks were also very good. The chef and bartender did a great job. Thanks to Oriana for the service and also to the other colleagues who did the service today.

Bread & Salt is a casual bakery and pizzeria located in Jersey City Heights. Renowned baker and pizzamaker Rick Easton, known for his Roman-style pizza, opened this acclaimed spot. The bakery offers a variety of Italian breads, sandwiches like Prosciutto & Mozzarella, and delectable pastries such as Pangoccili.
Omg incredible experience! I live in the Heights and love how conveniently close this unique eatery is to our place. My partner and I come here pretty often to pickup food; they had a special today - bread with a puree of tiny fish and spicy tomato sauce. It was incredible - a spicy flavor explosion in my mouth!! Overall, the quality of everything on their menu is exceptional. I always keep coming back for their specials. If you appreciate an eatery that prioritizes nuanced and deep flavors + quality above all else, this is your place and is money well spent!

We went before the store opened and waited 20 min in line. Got a mortadella sandwich, arugula tomato and mozzarella sandwich, and a large struffoli for the holiday. On the menu, the small struffoli was $13, but it was apparently sold out (store had been open 10 mins.. 🧐) so I said ok I’ll get the large one. She rung me up and total was $75 for two sandwiches and a struffoli. Apparently the struffoli was $45.. pretty ridiculous. Sandwiches were delicious but so minimal for the price… mortadella sandwich was $14 for mortadella + olive oil + bread. No cheese, nothing. I know this place is famous and the chef is wonderful, the food is delicious but these prices are ridiculous. Glad we tried it but we won’t be back.

Bread and Salt = Fat and Happy! The focaccia is simply phenomenal and the bread, donuts, pastries and house-made Italian desserts are fantastic. You might spend a bit of money but it's well worth the quality of ingredients and the care taken with the baking process.

Got a prosciutto & mozzarella sandwich…literally tasted exactly like a sandwich I had in Italy. So delicious. Bread was perfectly crispy, mozzarella & prosciutto super fresh and soft…honestly exceeded my expectations a LOT.

Arrived to find the line already out the door, which was unexpected. I decided to wait, and it took about 45 minutes to order. I got a sandwich, pizza, salad, and a few pastries. Seating was limited—just a few spots outside in front of the store. Inside, there’s also a small Italian grocery section. The sandwich was good, the focaccia itself was nice, but it didn’t have much meat and still cost $18, which felt overpriced. The pastries were disappointing, and overall I’m not sure the experience was worth the long wait and high prices. I might come back during a less busy time just to grab a sandwich again, but not for the pastries.

The best in the business. The attention to detail is extraordinary. They bring in the top ingredients and a staff to match. There can be a line but well worth it. Good things come To those who wait. Thanks to Nick, Alberto, Paul, Rick and anyone I missed

I finally tried this place. Go early they run out of stuff. It was recommended that I try the simple, Mortadella on Focaccia ($14.56) by the guy at the register. "It represents what we do here." I also got the Bombolone with pastry cream ($6.24). Both (2) were impressive. The Mortadella was good and the Focaccia was oily and salty. Hence,...Bread & Salt. There were many other things I want to try. They did a nice job setting the place up. Nice wines, pasta, and other Italian goods for sale on the shelves. It's pricey.

Bread and Salt is such a rare treat. The bread is incredible, and a loaf lasts an entire week, yielding first great bread then toast then croutons and bread crumbs. Of course if you get Rick Easton’s cookbook you can make his delicious “meat” balls (3 kinds!), stuffed peppers, papa Al pomodoro, etc. The donuts are perfect with an espresso in the morning, and so far I have had the onion focaccia, the tomato and the zucchini- all outstanding. I look forward to this bakery opening on Friday all week, and the sandwiches are delicious- my favorite so far is the fig, Gorgonzola and salami. The ones I have had are all made on crispy, olive oil-y focaccia. There is usually a small line but the line conversations are great for menu suggestions, and you can usually have a coffee while you wait. Luckily I live close by but I would drive from Manhattan for this place!! ***Refreshing this review to say the panettone is off the hook. Waited in line for an hour and worth every single minute- you won’t find a better one in NYC. Incredible.

Mexican restaurant
Taqueria Downtown is a beloved Mexican restaurant located in downtown Jersey City, known for its warm and casual atmosphere. The restaurant has been serving authentic Mexican cuisine for over a decade and offers outdoor seating, creating a vibrant dining experience. Founded by Phil and Andrea Barraza, the spot focuses on classic Mexican dishes such as burritos and tacos, with options like carnitas, lamb, cactus, beef tongue, and pescado.
We went for lunch without reservations. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table. Since it’s a small restaurant, the seatings are limited. The food and drinks were delicious. The best Mexican food in town. We loved their tacos and tamales. The price was reasonable. The staff was very friendly.

I expected fireworks based on the reviews and accolades this spot has received. My friend and I didn’t try many of the dishes but they were good. There was nothing spectacular about their flavors. They serve tortilla chips with a house sauce as a complimentary side dish. It’s a little hard but after the initial bite - we couldn’t stop! When you mix in the vibes of the place, then we have our answer as to why this place is loved by so many locals !! It’s a lowkey setting, crowded but homey, and brightened by colorful small lights. There’s a bar in the front house and outdoor seating in the back. The space is filled with laughter and people finished with their work day or grabbing a quick lunch. It feels familiar.

I must say that I am extremely disappointed in what I experienced. The food was good as always, as well as the drinks. Today I experienced something uncomfortable. I came in a little after 2pm for lunch and I was meeting a co worker. I sat at the bar and ordered food for both of us and a drink for myself. When my coworker arrived there were no extra seats at the bar available. The male bartender walked over and informed her she could not block the take out area and she couldn’t stand, understandable. I then requested that we move to a table, where there were plenty of open tables and no line, he then said no we can not do that. I offered to pay before we moved to a table, which again he said no. He then directed us to sit in the seated area on the sidewalk. May I also add that there was no signage or indication of this policy. The manager was pleasant and explained

I can’t say enough good things—this place blew my expectations! I’d always heard it was great, but it took me moving out of Jersey City to finally try it (sadly, after 9 years of living here!). Now I just wish I had come sooner. Everything was incredible—the steak and pork tacos, flautas, guacamole, and margaritas. You honestly can’t go wrong here! Must come asap!
Kiersten — Google review
Very classic, authentic Mexican spot in downtown Jersey City. You will almost always find a crowd gathered outside drinking margaritas and waiting to be seated. Overall, this spot is solid and exactly what you would expect. We ordered quite a few options to try out for our first time. By far, my favorite thing on the menu was the carnitas tacos. These tacos are flavorful and juicy and I'd come back time and time again just to order these tacos specifically. Everything else on the menu was solid, but the real stand out to me are the carnitas tacos.
Bailey J — Google review
Loved the vibe here. I kept coming back for their soups and carne asada tacos. The chicken soup during the week hits the spot. I added their spicy their spicy sauce for an extra kick. The tortilla soup and guacamole are good too.

Came here for lunch. We ordered some tacos while our friends got the beef steak plates instead. The tacos themselves were alright and a bit on the smaller side. I can’t say I would get them again. The steak plates were definitely more tasty. The steak itself was a bit thin but large in size. The chips and salsa were probably my favorite food item here. Keep in mind you get the first order of chips and salsa complimentary but each subsequent order you need to pay for. We don’t know that and assumed you got free salsa and chip refills like at most other Mexican restaurants across the country. Overall I had a decent time here but don’t see myself coming back unless it’s for a deal.

Taqueria Downtown is an absolute staple in Jersey City and a go-to spot for locals. Tucked away in a cozy basement, it has a colorful, no-frills vibe that feels like you’re stepping into your abuela’s kitchen—warm, welcoming, and full of incredible food. The menu is packed with delicious options, and you really can’t go wrong. Their Tortas ($7.95) are next-level, the quesadillas are fantastic, and the salsa? A deep red, slightly sweet, and perfectly spicy—just how it should be. But let’s talk drinks—this is where Taqueria truly shines. Grab a seat at the bar, order a margarita (or four), and don’t forget to take home a kit to keep the party going. An awesome spot to hang out, just off the main drag, and always a great time. Love me some Downtown Taqueria!

Restaurant
Corto is a cozy Italian BYO restaurant located in Jersey City Heights, offering seasonal Italian cuisine in a vintage-inspired setting. The open kitchen specializes in crafting house-made pasta with unique shapes and flavorful sauces featuring artisanal cheeses, seasonal vegetables, and even wild boar or wagyu beef. Embracing the concept of cucina povera, or peasant-style Italian cooking, Corto's menu changes frequently to showcase fresh offerings.
The food, service and setting were superb, but the biggest takeaway is the soul of this place. It's a charming, small restaurant with chefs busy (and joyfully noisy) working in the back, a smiling hostess and Genesis, our engaging guide for the night. My son ordered an assortment of cheese/salumi and a crisp salad to start. Tasty rigatoni and a rich mushroom pasta (strozzapreti- my fave dish of the night) followed and a spicy, succulent chicken ended the meal. Tables were rarely empty and guests (including some taking food to-go) seemed truly happy to be there. The only sticker shock was just how reasonable the bill was. P.S. I wish more restaurants had a BYOB policy. Reservations are a necessity.

Corto is one of the best hidden gems in Hoboken! The food is absolutely delicious, fresh, authentic, and full of flavor. The menu changes with the season, and every dish feels like it’s made with so much care and high-quality ingredients. The pasta is homemade and a must-try! The space is cozy, casual, and has a very warm neighborhood feel. One of the best parts is that it’s BYOB, so you can bring your favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal. Perfect for a relaxed date night or dinner with friends. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to explain the dishes and make you feel at home. Definitely a spot I’d recommend if you’re in Hoboken , just make a reservation because it gets busy!

4.5 starts Pleasantly surprised by this not so hidden gem in Jersey city (the heights). I walked into Corto for an early lunch & it was well worth the drive. I snagged a seat at the pasta bar & got a front row view of the chefs prepping and working their magic in the kitchen. This simply designed small restaurant is very cozy, offers comfortable seating, and also has a very nice outdoor patio set up in the back of the restaurant. I tried the Ricotta & honey toast that was spectacular. All the ingredients tasted fresh and blended together perfectly. The ricotta gnocchi was DELICIOUS, every bite was better than the last was not drenched in sauce & the meat complimented it so well. The citrus olive oil cake with strawberry jam was truly the perfect way to end my meal. A light but dense cake that had freshly made jam & whipped cream was a knock out treat. The service was welcoming & top notch. Not only did both servers come to check how the meal was going, the chef also checked on me periodically being that I was seated right in front of the kitchen, leaving me to enjoy my meal but when they did (pop in) they were very informative & gave me little bits of information on each dish that I had. To keep it short, Corto is a neighborhood gem tucked into the heights that everyone all over the city (or state) should know of & visit at least once. I look forward to visiting in the VERY NEAR future.

Ciao tutti!!! You go to this place for the atmosphere and the quality of the people caring for you. Food? No great, just good. Do not plan to go here in one of those days that you are hungry unless that you plan to order appetizer, pasta, main course and dessert (which will take you well above the $100 per person). Portions are small and there are no such a thing as sides coming with it. Pasta without bread is sacrilegious in Italian culture and even when you ask for it...they do not toast it to make it crispy (as in should be.) Lastly, the "heated patio", it is a "barely heated patio", they should remove those heater that are just a waste of energy. That being said, in a day with nice wheatear I recommend the patio. I went for a second time to confirm and things were slightly better. Still they don't toast the bread!! As and Italian place they should at least warm it up or ask about the people's preferences.

My friends and I absolutely loved Corto our waiter was amazing in recommending dishes to us and setting the vibe for the dinner. We loved the eggplant pasta and the toast with ricotta. Everything was delicious and will definitely be back! We got the angry chicken, pork shoulder, allll the pastas ( cause why have 1 when you can have 5), the watermelon salad, the burrata, and the ricotta honey toast.

What a great meal and a nice surprise. My wife and I moved to Jersey City 5 weeks ago and have been fairly disappointed with all the food around us. Arriving with low expectations, Corto proved to be the most professional, hospitable restaurant we’ve tried and the food was as on-point as anything we’ve had anywhere this past year, including Manhattan. Highly recommend. Reservations are tough. But we will persevere and visit again soon. Bonus: Ana the server recommended we try The Alps, a cocktail restaurant nearby before heading home. What a perfect suggestion and a great find. We will duplicate this evening many times in the future now that we’re nearby residents.

Food was good - flavorful but small portions. We liked the ricotta gnocchi and the pork was cooked well. We ordered the pavlova and chocolate cake. We were told it’s a chocolate olive oil cake? Some confusion with the dessert. The chocolate cake was dry and tasteless. Worst I’ve ever had. Pavlova was good. The host was great, but our server wasn’t. I asked about the alcohol in the dishes because I’m pregnant, I wanted to make sure it’s evaporated with the cooking process. She kinda brushed me off a bit and I felt I was getting lectured. Somehow she seemed ticked off that I asked? For dessert, I wanted espresso but asked if they have decaf. They don’t, that’s fine. The server responded to me with “I didn’t give up coffee when I was pregnant”. I told her I didn’t either. Why are you assuming that? You don’t know me. It was 7 PM and I don’t want to be awake past my bedtime. I ordered the espresso which did not come at the same time as the dessert. We had to ask for it to be brought over. The women who work there had long nails. I have my Servsafe manager certification. From a food safety standpoint long nails is a no-no.

One of my all time favorite spots in the heights. Likely in the top 5 best restaurants in Jersey city imho. With an open kitchen, BYOB, and laid back vibe it’s great for a date night or a family night out. Food is amazing and the staff is great.
