State park
Outdoor Activities
Waiʻānapanapa State Park is a coastal park known for its unique features such as black lava sand, tidal caves, and native plants. Visitors can also rent cabins within the park. One of the main attractions is the black sand beach at Waiʻānapanapa State Park, offering a striking contrast between the volcanic landscape and the lush greenery against the backdrop of the ocean.
Incredible and astonishing! Black sand beach was truly wonderful. There is an amazingly scenic hiking trail going both ways from the beach with blowholes, crashing waves, and many spots to go down and explore some lava rock tide pools! Then the beach itself. I expect just some dark colored sand, but no, the sand, the rocks, the cliffs all entirely black. The lava tube and lava caves were all awesome! The only issue is that there are a very limited number of parking spaces, and you need to buy a permit online well in advance to get one. The work around that I found for that is they also have camping permits for tent campers. And waking up to watch a sunrise over the black sand is one of the most surreal moments of my life.

Love this place. Endless amounts of opportunities to explore. Great place to just let loose and wonder around. Probably want to keep tabs on the young kids and those who can't swim. It is a strong surf (check out my video for that), and you will definitely want to be aware of your surroundings. We didn't get in the water as we just explored caves, trails, and little critters (see my picture of a spider😎). I highly encourage you get tickets in advance. I also mean you must have tickets in order to enter. What I also mean by this is that you need tickets to get in unless you are a resident. You pay per vehicle AND per person. We payed 22 dollars and change. 10 for the car and five per person. The park entrance monitor was very grouchy and seemed hostile 😁. But I said good morning, asked her how she was doing and got a great smile out of her! But she will kick you out if you are not on time and or don't have tickets. I also recommend downloading your QR code BEFORE you leave to the park. Internet is horrible and you will not get in without the QR code from the receipt emailed to you. Parking is horrendous and will cause headaches if you don't get there on time or during your shift. We got lucky and were able to grab two morning tickets, 7-10am. The tickets are sold in three time slots, morning, afternoon and evening. Also be aware that if you are driving to that beach you will be driving the "road to Hana". Be prepared for a long drive (took us 2.5 hours to get there and depends on where you are staying) and plan accordingly. You can just go for an hour or so or parts of your scheduled time frame but you will want at least an hour to explore. The sand was awesome and I really liked the different types of sand. You had more rock towards the back and it got more sand like as you got closer to the water. My two videos will show you what I mean. Don't take the rocks or sand, there is a sign posted to keep people from taking it. When we go back we will definitely go again, and also try and snag a smile. Definitely worth the trip and expensive, just preparing and getting there takes away a star so four stars.

This is a state park with a beach and cabins for rent. Entry and parking are free so go and explore! The park is located west of Hana town. Look for the signs and turn down Waianapanapa Road. It's not a major intersection so you might not even notice it. Drive slow as the beginning part is a residential street. Once at the end, you either make a left towards the beach or right towards the cabins. CABINS: While I haven't stayed in them, I did peek in through the windows of an empty one. They're old, not too clean looking and of course not temperature controlled. I personally would not stay here as they're run by the state, not a hotel company with normal housekeeping duties. Reservations need to be made a few months in advance. BEACH: I've only been to the cliff area behind the cabins which are definitely not for swimming but great for ocean watching and getting fabulous pictures. There are cool cliff formations, gorgeous scenery of the coastline, and even a blowhole. A short, easily walkable trail gives you numerous vantage points. There is a swimmable sandy beach towards the west end but I haven't been there yet. CAVES: There are water-filled caves/lava tubes which you can check out safely and easily via foot trails. I've seen some people swimming in them once. SMH, just don't do that. It's so disrespectful to the park and its guests. Be a traveler, not a tourist.

Make sure you get your reservations in! It fills up fast! Definitely have to make this a must go on your trip. The views from the cliffs are amazing. Lots of paved pathways for ease of access. And the black sand beach is once in a lifetime.

This was a highlight of our trip. The Hana Hwy has beautiful scenic views. The park it’s amazing, the “Black Sand Beach” it’s breathtaking the water it’s soo relaxing. I felt like I was in another planet. This place it’s majestic, like no other in the world.
Evelyn S — Google review
Get reservations and pay ahead of time. Beautiful place to stop with bathrooms. The black sands are cool to see. Easy stairs to get to beach area. Well maintained and clean. The bathrooms are better than you find in the area. Looks like you can camp here too. There are also memorial and ancestral grounds so be aware of where you are. So happy we stopped here. Just wish it wasn’t on the stupid road to Hana.
TheDoug801 — Google review
The bad: small beach area, you need reservations to visit and they do not accept same day reservations. The good: you need reservations so it’s not super crowded! There is a small cave that was pretty neat but be careful of the tide. Going later in the day would be windier but also has better lighting for photos!

Visited Wai'anapanapa States park as part of the road to Hana tour, I did with my partner in May 2023 and we both loved it. The setting is stunning with views looking down towards the black sand beach. There is plenty of wee trails that you can walk. The is a lava tube you can explore at the beach the black sand is surprisingly quite fine specialy at the waters edge. Waves were quite large when we were there don't know if it's like that all the time though. There is ample parking even though it is quite busy, there is restrooms and plenty pic-nic areas. It's a must if your staying in Maui to Visit Wai'anapanapa state park whether you driving of visiting as part of a tour. I highly recommend visiting here and would love to do it all agian Steve all Gianni Jacqui fae fife.

Caverns & Caves
Located off the Hana Highway near Hana Town, the Hana Lava Tube (also known as Ka'eleku Caverns) is a fascinating underground wonder that offers visitors a glimpse into Maui's geological history. Formed by ancient volcanic activity, this rocky tube extends for several miles, with a half-mile section open to the public. As you explore this cave trail, educational signs highlight various lava formations such as contraction cracks, stalagmites, and stalactites.
This was one of the coolest places we visited while exploring the island on our trip to Maui! It was cool to learn about the lava, flow of chocolatey water that used to exist until the collapse that took place at one end, which stopped the flow of water. The ticket prices were quite reasonable, I believe $15.00 for adults. the staff was friendly, helpful and informative. the park area was well maintained and clean. It was really cool to read the signs along the way and learn about the history of the Hana Lava Tube and how it originated. (Be cautious while exploring, some of the pathway/steps can get a little steep. We had no issues, but small children or people with any balnce issues might find it challenging to navigate.) Again, We loved checking it out, Definitely worth a visit.
Rob V — Google review
We loved this lava tube! It was so cool inside! It’s a self-guided tour inside, but they give you flashlights to use inside. There are so many colors inside - it’s beautiful! I’ve been in a lot of caves before, so they’re not “new and exciting” for me, but this one was truly enjoyable.
Rebecca S — Google review
I had no idea this place existed, and I was born and raised on the rock! We found it by accident while searching for some gardens located way down the dirt road that ended up being closed. I for one was excited to see this. Seeing and walking through an actual lava tube which once flowed with hot magma is fascinating to me! No reservations are required. You pay your $12.50 (2014 price), you're given a brief explanation of the tube, an LED flashlight, and you're on your self-guided way. THE TUBE: The entrance was super exciting. The pitch dark black hole adorned by ferns drops about 20 feet into the ground. You're immediately greeted with a temperature perfect 70% humidity atmosphere and is about 5-7 degrees cooler than the air outside. There's no smell inside. You will be dripped on by rain water seeping through the ground above. The ground is very uneven but there are handrails throughout to guide and help you. Anyone with difficulty walking should not do this. There are signs throughout that explain the different floors, walls and ceilings of the tube. Near the end of the tube is an intimidating low-hanging ceiling that requires you to duck down and walk under. Here is where you can see the stalactites up close. They're nothing like you'd see in other caves as they're small and look like melted Hershey Kisses. Soon after this is a vent that opens up to the land above, letting in sunshine as if you're going to heaven or something lol. The attraction ends a few feet later - it goes on for longer but this is where these folks' property line ends, so you have to go back. TI LEAF MAZE: I was hesitant to go through it but my friends wanted to. I had fun. It was longer than it looks. I have no idea how you begin to design something like that. Do it! What else are you going to do in Hana lol?! TIP: There are no creatures in the tube, except for worms that dangle from the ceiling, but we didn't see any. The worker also stated that she's never seen any during the 5 years she's been there. I'm a bit claustrophobic and had no problem in here. OVERALL: Very cool attraction to see.
Maui T — Google review
CASH NEEDED FOR ENTRY - (no Venmo) We do a decent amount of caving with our kids and the lave tube did not disappoint! Armed only with flashlights we descended the steps to explore. The tube was much larger than I expected, you won't get claustrophobic. Its also a singular pathway with no deviation, so you won't get lost. Easy going for footing - truly would be good for all ages and abilities as the stairs at the entrance are the most challenging obstacle you'll find. The tour is self guided with fact placards along the way. There is no lighting (other than your provided flashlights) so if you're lucky enough to end up alone at the end of the walkway you can experience true darkness turning them off! The customer service here was phenomenal. The owner went over and above to make sure my family was able to have this experience. 100% would recommend!

What a great little adventure! Close the the state park and great for most ages.. I love the history and the go at your own pace. The staff was friendly and super accommodating
Jessica N — Google review
Super cool experience! It’s very interesting to see what the earth can do naturally and the signs explain everything to you really easily. I definitely learned something new! However, $15 seemed a bit high just to walk through a cool cave, and it’s privately owned so it’s not like the money is going to support Maui, which is why I took off one point. There are restrooms (ports potties) and be prepared to have a slight trouble parking. Had honestly an amazing time though and was amazed!
Sophie — Google review
This was amazing. For $15.50 each it was well worth the visit. Loved going underground and exploring the area. Did a similar tour on the big island but this one was much longer in distance. Gotta go and I’m sure children will love it.
Michael D — Google review
Unique experience. About $15 a person in 2025. Worth it. Takes about 30 mins or so to see the whole cave. Really beautiful and fascinating if you read the plaques. I've never seen such beautiful starry night looking bacteria on cave ceilings before! Such a great experience. Easy walking/hiking. All ages should be able. You need to be able to take steps and walk with a flash light.

Bay
Outdoor Activities
Hāna Bay is a vast bay surrounded by a black-sand beach and a hilly, tropical cove with a pier and hiking trails. The hill at Ka'uiki on the southeast side of Hāna Bay holds historical and legendary significance, including the story of Maui pushing up the sky to get water from a young woman. Additionally, it's where the son of the fish god Ku'ula created important structures for the people of Hāna.
Nice secluded beach with calm sea and extraordinary views of landscape.
Joseph A — Google review
Small, less-visited bay with moderate waves and a black-sand beach, accessible by foot from many of the nearby hotels and inns. This bay is relatively small with a very minimal beach area - most of the shore was pebbly, not sandy. Would not go out of my way to revisit.
RescueK9s — Google review

This is a bay that still gets pretty good waves. It's beautiful from the beach as you can watch the waves crashing over the lava rock in the distance.

I mean, it's alright. Waves are a little strong and the grey sand is kind of cool but is nothing compared to the red sand next door.

Located around Mile Marker 29, just before Hana Town, Nahiku Marketplace has evolved from a small vendor spot to a vibrant tropical village over the past 8 years. It's an ideal stop on your way to Hana where you can enjoy delicious local food like Huli Huli Chicken and Pork Ribs, fresh coconut water and juices, and locally made souvenirs. Visitors rave about the incredible slow-cooked pork ribs and the option to get the recipe for the rub.
Fantastic roadside bbq spot! Chef was so kind and had us laughing in no time. It is cash only so come prepared! Huge portions - chicken was phenomenal. Can’t wait to come back and try the ribs!

What a great little coffee/juice stand! So glad we stopped in. Service and atmosphere was fantastic and they had home baked goods as well!

Small marketplace along the Road to Hana consisting of a handful of eateries and shops. Parking is limited. The businesses here run on island-time so it's hard to figure out what their operating hours are.
RescueK9s — Google review
We got there late so our choice was fish n chips or pizza... down fo da fish! Hubbs n I both got fried fish... nice cook on da fish, very tasty, so were da fries. We got mango tea which tasted and had texture like a milk tea... still refreshing. Enjoying this meal, it started to rain which, to me, was the perfect ending to a VERY late lunch or early dinner! Everyone at the shops, full of aloha, on our way out we got banana bread, checked out local art, great little stop to and from Hana!!
Mahealani C — Google review
The best porks ribs we’ve ever had! We stopped for Huli Huli Chicken and Pork Ribs and we were amazed at how incredible the ribs were. They’ll give you the recipe for the rub if you ask, but I have to believe the slow-cooking is what makes these ribs and the chicken so special. It comes with steamed veggies. We also went next door for a fresh coconut drink prepared to order. When you’re done, they’ll split it in half and dig out the fresh meat. This is so worth the wait (on the road) and the stop.
Pam ( — Google review
Amazing ribs, probably the best we've ever had! It was $26 for a huge plate of ribs, sticky rice and some veggies. We split an order and it was plenty of food for two people. The huli huli chicken also looked amazing. There are a couple of stores here, one of which was a very pleasant surprise with good quality jewelry and items made by local artists. We found a beautiful necklace as a souvenir of our day. A great stop, but we really wish they had bathrooms! There were porta potties on site, but they looked neglected and were locked.

Nice market on the way to Hana. Great to stretch the legs if nothing else. We got her won a Sunday and a bunch of the shops were closed for some reason. Anyway. You could get great coffee here. Huli huli chicken bbq. Art work. And take some silly stick-your-head-through-a-hole photos.

What a sneaky little treasure trove of things they sell here! From so ono lunch plates, snacks and fresh fruit to a fun little coffee spot - food is covered. Plus there are knick knacks, one of a kind jewelry and other sparkly or unique souvenirs here. We stayed for an hour but could have hung out all day!!!

Had great artifacts and plenty of knowledge of the natives that once lived there and had a cool old school courthouse the size of a office building that is still used to this day overall really cool to just swing on by on the way to beach and check out the history and the lady was super nice as well

This place is run by all volunteer community members. I would definitely call ahead and see when there will be someone there. Also this is Hāna so if you are a tourist ask a local worker at your hotel or place you are staying and they probably know someone they can call and tell you. While not big it has a lot of interesting artifacts and a wealth of information about Hāna and its people. The big thing to check out if you do go is the HALE, aka HAWAIIAN THATCHED STRUCTURES. The person currently in charge of reconstructing is a Hawaiian master builder. No I'm not taking fake grass shacks but the real deal. If you are lucky you might even be able to join in and help if he is there working. Just think you can go back home and say you did something real.

Me and family went here a few years back over the summer! We had an incredible time in Hana and i could really feel the Hawaiian Energy!

The volunteer was very knowledgeable when we asked questions. The historical courthouse on the premises is actually still in use (as of this writing).

Interesting but small display of artifacts and FREE. Got to see the actual court house for Hana (used once a week for hearings according to docent).

It's small, but Hana is small so that's fine. There are a number of local cultural artifacts exhibited in a small building with friendly staff.

Hawaiian restaurant
Located in Hana town, on the mountain side of the road, Hana Ranch Restaurant is a long-standing establishment offering American cuisine with a touch of island flavors. The restaurant boasts a patio with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, making it an ideal spot to unwind after navigating the challenging Road to Hana. The menu features shoyu chicken plate lunches, fish and chicken sandwiches, saimin noodles, and a selection of locally made desserts.
Would recommend the calamari, the burger, and the Parmesan cheese fries. Would not recommend the spicy chicken sandwich. The view outside is awesome! Our waitress Jennifer was lovely.
Stephanie M — Google review
A spur of the moment decision brought me and part of my gang here for lunchtime cocktails and pupus because that's how we roll! ATMOSPHERE: The inside is clean and simple with great views of the outdoors. Be sure to check out the wall of ukuleles. Seating is a mix of bar, low tops and a covered outdoor patio. We wanted to sit outdoors but the area was closed due to the on and off rain. Clientele were majority tourists as this isn't a place local folks would patronize due to its price point and menu selections. MENU: Quite a nice selection of cocktails, bar-style apps, salads, sandwiches, burgers, American-inspired entrees and desserts. BEVERAGE: Maui Mule This version was right up there with others I've tried. Perfectly balanced and refreshing. FOOD: Fresh Guacamole & Tortilla Chips Very overpriced for a simple plate of chips and dip. The guacamole was creamy and fresh but can't compare to versions I've had in Mexico. Nice effort though. Crispy Calamari - The plate came with a mix of big rings and tentacles, covered in a thick, chunky batter and cocktail sauce. Mainstream but still good. SERVICE: We were greeted and seated immediately. Our female server was friendly and professional. The only hiccup was the absence of share plates which we had to ask for as we crunched our way through the messy calamari. OVERALL: Really your only traditional restaurant option outside of the Travassa Hotel.
Maui T — Google review
A beautiful stop for lunch after driving 3 hours from Kihei. The service was excellent and the food was amazing with very generous portions. We each got a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail and shared their best dessert, the cookie dough sundae! We will be dreaming of that dessert for a long time!

I stopped by this restaurant recently and was seriously impressed. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, the staff attentive without being overbearing, and the food came out quick and fresh. The highlight for me was definitely the pulled pork burger—it was packed with flavor, perfectly tender, and had just the right balance of smoky and savory. The portion was generous without being overwhelming, and every bite was delicious. I’d absolutely recommend this place to anyone, especially if you’re craving a pulled pork burger done right.
Arturs M — Google review
The shortribs were the best, being absolutely delicious. But the catch of the day and poke was also very good. Super nice staff.

Did the road to Hana and came across this place to eat before the second half. It was amazing!! The baby back ribs literally melted off the bone The fries and onion rings were super good too. They weren't overly greasy to cause any pains afterwards :) Will definitely visit again. We made it after sundown but next time we will come during the day for the amazing views
Shawheen — Google review
It is the only sit down restaurant in Hana and it’s attached to the Hyatt so most people go there at least once that are staying at the resort and it is open later. The restaurant makes a point of saying it is farm to table, but I suspect this is just marketing. The waiter we had was so lovely and very efficient but unfortunately, that’s the extent of the good things I have to say about the place. It is very expensive for what you get, cocktails are $22 each, burger and fries is 25$. We got 1 cocktail, 1 beer, the poke, fish of the day (Mahi Mahi curry) and the smash burger (not an actual smash burger btw). The food was pleasant enough but nothing special. The bill came to $180 and it didn’t feel like a $180 meal. The next day we went to the food trucks opposite and the food was far and away better at a fraction of the cost (but they do close early). I feel like this location could support a world class restaurant, and a chef that uses the wonderful local produce available, but sadly, this is not that.
Robin T — Google review
The drive to this place was amazingly beautiful. I believe it was worth the drive. The view from our table was breath taking. Food is in the 25-50 dollars range depending on what meal you get. My wife and I both got the Mahi Mahi fish and chips. It was delicious and our waiter was amazing. This restaurant was a part of Hana Ranch Resort. We might look it up for a stay on our next trip.

Thai restaurant
Restaurant
Located in a scenic spot surrounded by palms and tropical foliage, Thai Food By Pranee is a hidden gem offering mouthwatering Thai cuisine. Despite its humble location near Hana Ballpark, this open-air restaurant attracts crowds for its flavorful pad thai and green curry. The heaping dishes are bursting with color and can be enjoyed at picnic tables while taking in views of the lush Hana countryside or taken to go for a picnic at Hana Bay.
Excellent food!! Be prepared to wait. This place was a gem we found on our trip to Hāna. They have a small place with plenty of outdoor seating with views of the mountain. The food was hot and spicy - just like we asked for. We ordered the drunken noodles, pineapple fried rice and Thai Iced teas. Highly recommend.
Pankti S — Google review
Food exceeded our expectations. Some of the best Thai food we’ve ever had which isn’t what we were expecting. The portions are generous too which I really appreciated. Would recommend to anyone in the area. My favorite of our dishes was the ginger fried fish. Took ours to go and ate at our campsite at the state park.
Paul M — Google review
We had high hopes for this place given its great rating and positive reviews across different communities. I really wanted to enjoy the food, but perhaps we came at the wrong time, or maybe it was because they were out of the homemade chili sauce. We tried the drunken noodles and the signature Mahi & Cashew, but unfortunately both dishes felt a bit plain and greasy.

I live in NYC and this is the best Thai food I’ve ever had. Don’t miss it!! Crispy fish with mango salad is the best dish. The drunken crispy fish is delicious too, and the coconut soup. Fresh, perfectly cooked veggies, amazingly crispy fresh local fish, huge portions and low prices. WOW!

Pranee's has been around for a long time. 2019 was my initial visit. ATMOSPHERE: They've moved to a new location right next door to their first spot. The first location was a simple tented lanai, a bit dreary and damp. Their new location is much more inviting with a porch-like setting built up against the kitchen. Seating is a mix of low tops and counter. Parking is limited but street parking is available on either side of the property with a short walk. MENU: Beef, noodles, chicken, rice, fish, curry, soup, salad. They do not have sticky rice, only jasmine. FOOD: We ordered family-style though a single order can feed one to two people. Spring Rolls Four rolls come per order. They were of standard size, filling (pork and veggies) and taste. A sweet sauce came with for dipping but I ate mine plain. Stir Fry Eggplant & Tofu I'm not big on eggplant but my friend ordered this dish. I had some tofu which were nice and firm. The stir fry included veggies in a savory gravy and jasmine rice. I've never saw green eggplant before! Stir Fry Chicken & Ginger My choice for the table which was really good. Tender chicken slices and veggies in a savory gravy. It wasn't gingery as I had imagined regardless of the fresh chunks of ginger used. A small serving of jasmine rice came to the side but wasn't enough for two to share. Green Papaya Salad Not a huge fan of this either but the taste was there, a mix of sweet and slightly tart, with fresh and thinly cut slices of papaya and a copious amount of sauce. SERVICE: Order and pay at the cashier, grab a seat, wait for your number to be called, then pick up your food at the window. After you're done, it's clean up after yourselves. Why tips are expected are beyond me. The male cashier was friendly, but he should've told us about the included rice with the dishes. Food service was very quick despite it being fired-to-order! TIPS: A small portion of jasmine rice comes with most entrees, FYI. We ended up having too much rice as we ordered a side as we weren't told about the inclusion. Cards accepted. OVERALL: All dishes are made to order and came out steaming hot as I watched the window continuously. Tasty and fresh food with fair pricing. A definite return!

Surprised she doesn’t have more reviews.. truly a hidden gem in Maui. Honestly the best Thai food I’ve ever had. Every time we come to Maui this place is a must visit. All time favorites at this place: 1. Tom Kha (A soup with the perfect blend of creaminess, sourness, and umami) 2. Crispy fish with mango salad. ( the sweet/sour of the salad really complements the oily fat in the fried fish) 3. Panang curry with mahi 4. Drunken noodles Honestly, everything is so good here I’m sure you couldn’t miss with any dish. If she lived in Houston I’d probably go here twice a week. Parking is not an issue. She has a dirt/gravel lot right next to the restaurant that can fit 10+ cars

Located in Hana Town, East Maui, Braddah Hutts BBQ Grill is a popular food truck serving up delicious Mainland-inspired barbecue dishes. The menu includes mouthwatering ribs, tender chicken, and flavorful BBQ pork, all served in generous portions. Visitors rave about the tasty offerings and the friendly staff that adds to the delightful experience. The food truck operates until 2 pm daily and is located about a mile past the historic Hasegawa General Store.
This was one of my favorite meals when visiting Maui. I ordered the chicken bbq platter. It had a great smoked flavor, and the chicken was nice and moist, especially because they use thigh meat. My pescatarian friend enjoyed her grilled salmon though that’s not what they’re known for. She said it was perfectly cooked and tasted fresh. She felt that the vegetables that came with the fish were fresh too.

This was one of our absolute favorite food spots while visiting Maui! Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendliest two guys and their adorable pup. They truly know hospitality — you can tell they genuinely enjoy serving everyone who stops by. There are quite a few BBQ stands along the Road to Hana offering chicken, pork, and fish, but nothing compares to their perfectly charred chicken and the incredibly flavorful mac salad. The portions are also massive for the price! This will definitely be our go-to spot next time we’re in Maui. Highly recommend!

We ordered the pork ribs and the kalua pork. Both were tender and delicious. You eat outside. Great meal before our next adventure.

I had looked ahead on the road to Hana before we set off on our journey and scoped out different places to eat and had tucked this place away in my mind. When we passed this spot around 1130am, I said HEY THAT PLACE LOOKED GOOD ONLINE. Well, we drove past but then THE SMELL hit our noses. We turned around lickety split to get on that grub. The bbq chicken and Kalua pork were both phenomenal. I loved the macaroni salad as well. What a cool spot to stop and enjoy some amazing homemade food! I recommend this spot to literally anyone. Go give them your business. With Verizon phone service I had 4 bars of LTE here. They accept Venmo or cash only.

Not only the best food we got on Maui, but possibly the best pork ribs I've ever had. They were thick and meaty, and fall off the bone tender. The portion was so large, we could not close the lid to the container. The BBQ sauce was tasty but not overpowering. The mac salad was also really good, and I'm not much of a mac salad fan. It had some real veggies in it, and it wasn't overly mayonnaisy. Service was amazing- super friendly. If this place existed within an hour of our home, I'd be fat in no time!

This feels like you go to a friend who’s uncle is Hawaiin and sings songs for everyone and cooks food and then the whole crowd wants to be his new best friend. Pork ribs, bbq chicken, banana bread and Mac salad. 10/10. This is in my opinion might be the most authentic and delicious food on the island!

Definitely the best food truck in the area. Huge portions compared to other trucks. Really good too. I got the chicken BBQ and split it with a friend and we both got pretty full from it. Awesome people working there too. Highly recommend!

Pizza restaurant
Hāna Farms Roadside Stand, Pizza Oven and Bakery is a multifaceted establishment that began as a simple roadside fruit and vegetable stand in 1996. Over the years, it has transformed into a restaurant offering wood-fired pizzas made with locally sourced ingredients from the farm itself. The menu features unique pizza options such as the Hana Dragon and Green Harvest, along with classic choices like the Wild Tomato Margherita.
Stopped here on the way back from Hāna and it did not disappoint. Location and vibe were great and the staff was amazing and super friendly. The pizza was incredible, and if you like a good salad, you can’t find one with fresher or better ingredients(the dressings were off the chart as well). Great food great people. Definitely recommend!

Great stop! The atmosphere is simply heavenly! Plus, they offer a real bathroom to use as well. The pizza is pretty good and will hit the spot. Banana bread is good, too. I would recommend stopping here if traveling the road to Hana

Best pizza in Hawaii hands down! Nothing comes closer. Must stop place for road to Hana trip. They got many great pizza options including a ton of vegetarian options. I would highly recommend artichoke pizza. Salads were also super fresh. We loved farm fresh soda options - lilikoi, hibiscus and ginger. They have free hibiscus water. Plenty of parking, clean washroom, fantastic natural decor and out of the world banana nut breads.

Before driving back from our road to Hana trip, this place was a great stop to have some food and get some rest. We loved the Harvest salad, with all its colour and nutrients, good enough for two, the dressing options you could really tell they were house made. We ordered some Pizza too, great size, I think one pizza serves two, maybe three, after sharing the salad. The place is nicely decorated and surrounded by the stunning Hawaiian vegetation.

Very relaxed and delicious pizza place in a farm, has a little market with interesting products. The pizza was quite large coming from an Asia country. Very tasty and the crust was good and charred right. Good choice to stop by after the black sand beach.

After driving all morning to enjoy Hana and the parks, this is a must-stop for great pizza. The size, taste, and atmosphere are all really good (one pizza for two works perfectly). Then we had a nut banana cake that was the best I have ever had. I totally recommend stopping here.

This was our food highlight in Hāna and a contender for food highlight for all of Maui. The atmosphere here is absolutely unmatched. Gorgeous grounds, a cute shop with locally made goods, and a stunning open air patio with string lights. All would be enough to venture there just to look around, but on top of all of that, they make KILLER pizza! Absolutely delicious dough and toppings. We got the Pine Kine and the Margarita. 10/10 recommend.

Such a wonderful place to dine in. Everything from the food to the staff to the vibe was perfect! The Artichoke and Feta pizza is a must try. Also try their Hibiscus Lilikoi soda, we loved it so much that they we took some for the road. A perfect place to rest and relax after the long drive to Hana! Staff is super friendly and very accommodative.

Ae's Thai Kitchen is a food truck located in a small area off the Road to Hana, near the Hana gas station. The dishes are generous in portion size and slightly expensive, suitable for sharing between two adults. Parking can be challenging during peak times due to the popularity of the food trucks in the area. Visitors have enjoyed various menu items such as chicken pad Thai, Mahi Mahi with basil, and drunken noodles with tofu.
I ordered the egg rolls and pad Thai with tofu. The food was simply incredible. The crisp on egg rolls was perfection and pad Thai was served like you are in Thailand, the elements and the taste. I would drive the road to Hana just to eat here again. It’s fresh, delicious, ingredients are high quality and the flavor was just spot on. Genuinely the best Thai food I had in America (I do travel a lot and eat a lot of Thai food generally). Must visit spot on the road to Hana.

I hate scammers. Food was excellent. Shows $22 on the sign for my meal. I brought 20 in cash. I order and say ill give you the 20 but i just need to run to my car to get you the other 2. She says oh its 25 with tax. I need 5 more. ???? I pay her the 5, get my meal, start eating. Look up hawaii tax rate ( which tax was included in all the other advertised surrounding food pricing boards) which is 4.5, realize that on 22 is little over 1 dollar not 3. Walk back up to the truck to inquire, i say how much is Maui’s tax rate to the lady and without a response she hands me back my 3 dollars. I knew she was scamming me and she knew it too. She was very pissy, like all the locals in Hana. They do not want us there and express it freely.

The pumpkin red curry was one of the best vegetarian curries that I’ve had. The serving portion was large enough to share with another friend. Atmosphere was great. It rained (it’s Hana, of course it has to rain) while we were eating dinner across from the Friday farmers market. The large umbrellas on the picnic tables sheltered us just fine. Eggs rolls were fried fresh and very tasty.

Hands down the best Pad See Ew I had in Hawai‘i! Ae’s Thai Kitchen may be a food truck, but the flavor rivals many sit-down restaurants. The Chicken Pad See Ew was incredible — perfectly stir-fried noodles with that rich, smoky wok flavor, tender chicken, and just the right balance of sweetness and savoriness. The portion size was generous, and every bite tasted fresh and authentic. If you’re craving Thai comfort food, this dish alone is worth the stop. Simple, delicious, and made with care — exactly what you hope for from a hidden gem food truck.

Stopped by this Thai food truck on the Road to Hana. We ordered the pumpkin curry soup, the crispy basil chicken with rice, and the garlic shrimp with rice. The menu didn’t have a ton of choices, but it covered the basics and had a few interesting options. The pumpkin curry soup honestly surprised me. I don’t usually like pumpkin and it didn’t sound that appetizing, but I wanted to try something different. It turned out flavourful and creamy, mixed well with the spices, definitely better than I expected. The crispy basil chicken was solid. Well seasoned and tasty, though not as spicy as I had hoped. It still paired nicely with the vegetables and rice. The garlic shrimp was the standout. Juicy, cooked deliciously, and packed with garlic flavor, easily my favorite of the three. Overall, the food was good and enjoyable, but the portion sizes didn’t quite feel worth the price but it’s still a nice stop on the Road to Hana.

This is the best kind of food you will get on this side of the island. There are other food trucks too but the Thai one is very nice. I would highly recommend the coconut crusted mahi mahi as they are fresh catches and tastes really good.

The best things going in Hana at night especially. Great portions, tasty food, and costs half of what you get at the two restaurants in town. Good selection between the trucks. Stayed for two nights and ate here both nights

After hiking the Pipiwai Trail in the Haleakala National Park, we are driving back to our hotel through the "Road to Hana" and found this Ae's Thai Kitchen Food Truck. We decided to grab a quick late-lunch and ordered the Mahi Mahi with Green Papaya Salad and a side of Banana Lumpia. Everything tasted great! Especially loved the Banana Lumpia!
