Located in Thermopolis, Wyoming, the Wyoming Dinosaur Center offers an educational and kid-friendly experience with its extensive displays of Jurassic-era bones and specimens from nearby dig sites. Founded in 1995 on Carter Ranch Road, this non-profit organization houses one of the world's largest fossil collections. Visitors can explore thousands of dinosaur bones from the Thermopolis bonebeds and various specimen collections from around the globe.
What a wonderful experience - for all ages! Well curated! I found it enjoyable to be able to take a slow-paced, self-guided tour and spent more time observing things I was most interested in. For those with mobility concerns: there are not sufficient places to stop and lean or sit - and there are endless paper signs posted, instructing visitors not to sit on the display perimeters. You may need to bring along a walking stick or your own walker/seat!

Our family of four visited August 22 and went on a dig for a day. We had a wonderful time thanks to our knowledgeable and friendly host intern Alyssa. She showed us around the dig sites and patiently guided our family of novices through a day of digging for dino bones. Throughout the day she shared interesting information and answered our questions while helping us feel welcome. We uncovered a vertebrae from a sauropod! We can’t imagine a better host for such a wonderful experience. Highly recommend this experience for families or individuals looking for a scientific and educational adventure!

What a great discovery in this quaint little town! The fossils were plentiful and incredible. The dinosaurs and mammal skeletons were so interesting. We could've spent half a day here, but were on a schedule. Don't miss this place!
Beth L — Google review
I loved my visit! I think dinosaurs and fossils are super cool, I even bought myself a pinky sized trilobite. It took me around an hour to look at everything but I didn't read all there was we to read. My rating is slightly biased because I have a parasocial relationship with the fossil in the middle photo. It shows a fish that died while eating a squid, which is pretty crazy if you ask me.
K L — Google review
Only reason not a five is small museum compared to others. People were friendly! Great part is a tour and takes you to a dig site! The dinosaur skeletons and information was great! Take $150 minimum.
Gabriel S — Google review
A true gem of a place to visit. Stop along the road trip and check out the cool fossils and learn something new. There is a small food court and store if you want to check that out. They have military discounts and also have an option to visit the dig site. Regular adult ticket was $12.
Tony G — Google review
World class museum with fossils, the actual fossils, that I have only seen in books since I was a kid. Absolutely jaw dropping specimens spanning the history of life. The early life fossils are mesmerizing and build toward the enchanting hall of dinosaurs. This is a museum where paleo-nerds will totally geek out and everyone else will be amazed by the beauty of life on Earth.
Jim L — Google review
It's surprising to find such a beautiful and rich museum in such a small town. The collection is truly extensive and rivals those of museums in major European capitals. A lot of very interesting information. A must-see if you're in the area.

Nature & Parks
Hot Springs & Geysers
Hot Springs State Park in Wyoming is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and those seeking relaxation. The park boasts an impressive 8,000 gallons of hot spring water flowing daily, providing visitors with the opportunity to soak in healing mineral waters at the free state bath house. In addition to the rejuvenating hot springs experience, visitors can marvel at otherworldly landmarks shaped by natural hot springs and observe Wyoming's state bison herd.
We had so much fun at the Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis. There are many trails to explore and lots of shade to enjoy the tranquility and make a lunch. We visited with our large dog and found the park peaceful and beautiful.
Teri S — Google review
In August 2025, we visited the Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis, Wyoming. The hot springs are adjacent to the Bighorn River, and they claim to be the world's largest mineral hot springs. The mineral rock formations are beautiful and colorful to see. The nearby mountain has "World's Largest Mineral Hot Spring" painted on it. We would like to return to Hot Springs State Park and spend more time there.
John C — Google review
Visited these amazing, free, hot spring pools! perfect for relaxing after a long day of driving! A must stop on a cross country trip. Thanks 🙏

Its a nice state park. We just drove through and stopped briefly in the park. Several picnic areas. Nice walking trails.
Nidhi K — Google review
Great place and the gentlemen at the visitor center desk was exceptionally nice, helpful, and informative. We will definitely return when we have more time to spend in this really cool town! We also LOVED the museum, featuring real dinosaur bones found in the area!
Amanda C — Google review
I come here every time we visit. It is relaxing and so well cared for. Stunning views, great walking paths, landscape and geology to see, and history to learn.
Megan R — Google review
The lady in the information centre is super nice. She’s so accommodating and gave us so many useful informations, not only about the state park but about our next destination as well. The place is perfect for a picnic and a walk. Of course, to view a bunch of bisons as well.
Yayan G — Google review
If you would like to see wild bison roaming free in the state park this is the park to go to you can drive your car on the road right up to where they are and as long as you drive very slow the price of sometimes across the road right in front of you was there about 10 ft of you. The park is beautiful and well maintained and a great tour stop. I love to go to the park at least three to four times a week I'm a local there are some amazing rock formations caused by volcanic activity that are absolutely worth seeing as well as the world's largest hot springs

Water & Amusement Parks
Star Plunge is a popular destination in Thermopolis, offering visitors the chance to enjoy healing mineral waters and exciting water slides. Located in Hot Springs State Park, it provides a modern and funky atmosphere for relaxation and fun. The facility includes commercial swimming pools where guests can swim, slide, or simply unwind in the mineral-rich waters. While there, visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Wyoming Dinosaur Center and Legend Rock Petroglyph for a glimpse into prehistoric times.
Been visiting the Star Plunge for over 40 years and it's still an amazing experience. There are very few places in the world where one can have such a unique experience. Don't pass it up on your way to the National Parks. Take the time to stop in, relax, and let the kids play. The price is reasonable and is good for the entire 12-hour business day with in and out privileges. They rent towels, suits, and lockers so no excuses.
K W — Google review
Great pit stop on our way back to Denver from visiting Yellowstone. Very affordable and fun for the whole family. The State Hotsprings parks is awesome too! The Bison drive get you up close to a lot of bison! It really helped break up our drive!
Julie H — Google review
Fairly busy, they do have lockers and showers. If busy you might to wait a bit for a dressing room. Day pass $15.50 a person so decent price. Vapor cave is very interesting, very hot. S good slides for older kids and adults, 1 for younger. Saunas, spectator area, snacks available, just the basics though, chips candy and drinks. They do have swim wear for sale on site.
Cathy L — Google review
Star Plunge is a great Hot Mineral Pool House with several pools and different temperatures. There is an outside pool and two slides outside, a hot water pool and a jump tower. Inside you have another big pool, and two whirlpools, a vapor cave and another slide. The changing rooms and showers are good too. Plenty of benches and seats outside. We really enjoyed our time here!
Sari — Google review
Really great place for a day visit with the family! We had a blast!! Facility was clean, Staff was friendly and pricing was about what you would expect. Water slides were really fun but they won't let you ride them tandem with the aller kids so that bummed my daughter out a bit. All in all worth the visit. They're open year round as well which us really neat!
The B — Google review
Stunning property! Amazing views! Loved the different pool temperature options. Large clean changing facilities. Gift shop on site with pool toys and anything else you might forget. Unforgettable experience
Amanda K — Google review
I've been coming to the Star Plunge since I was a kid. Although it was once a bit run down, they have been making great renovations to make this place the desirable location it's been known to be. What a unique place to swim in hot spring enriched pools, enjoy waterslides, and a bask in a mineral springs steam room. Bring a picnic, and also check out the park next door! It's worth the trip whether you're alone to relax, a couple getaway, or a family day.
Corey S — Google review
A cool way to experience the hot springs. A little pricey but you can come and go all day. It smells weird bc of the sulphur but otherwise pretty clean. Not a lot of food options so bring a cooler. Lifeguards were either completely disinterested in what you were doing or completely over the top lol Overall a good time

Local history museum
Museums
The Hot Springs County Museum & Cultural Center, located on Broadway Street, offers a glimpse into the historic old west. Visitors can explore the old bar once frequented by the Hole-In-The-Wall gang and immerse themselves in the cowboy era. The museum showcases Indian artifacts, geological displays, and features Cattle Kate's original kitchen cabinet. Additionally, it houses a general store and old doctor's and dentist's offices for an authentic experience of early day history.
The docent was very helpful and the museum is surprisingly complete for the area. We skimmed through a lot as not being natives, there isn't the local interest, but still a good museum. The room setups for the various homes and offices is very thorough. Kudos to the donations.
T. K — Google review
According to staff the Hot Springs County Museum has been around and accepting items for one hundred years. It shows. There is hardly a corner or showcase that is not stuffed with memorabilia. Two floors of exhibits. The basement has a recreation of shops from before the turn of the century . Well thought out and maintained. Thank you to the dedicated staff for preserving this important piece of history.
Marge — Google review
What an amazing museum! There's something for every history lover: pioneers, war-time, king cattle, period clothing, dress up time for cute photos, and a great scavenger hunt to get the kiddos excited! The staff is second to none, too! They were friendly and even offered my son a snack when his blood sugar dropped. We'll be back next summer!
Stephanie T — Google review
I loved visiting this museum. It’s a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. The basement is full of interesting items. Wonderful collection of arrowheads, displayed nicely. History of the hole in the wall saloon was totally unexpected. I will be returning with friends
Be R — Google review
Lots and lots of interesting historical items. The Hole in the Wall actual "Bar" is inside. And a school house next door at the Annex. Wonderful.
John M — Google review
The exhibits are numerous and well designed with very detailed authentic artifacts. The annex building includes a school house which was relocated. It is great addition to the museum. The walls have very realistic murals that enhance the exhibits. The museum is ran by a family...whose young son accompanied us to the annex and was very knowable and provided informed information on the exhibits. The museum is well kept and organized and extremely affordable!
Ana G — Google review
Great way to spend an hour or so. Lots to see and there is more across the street at the Annex. Well worth the stop.
John M — Google review
What a GREAT museum! Much bigger than it looks on the outside. Very nice displays; I loved the old dentist room! And the little schoolhouse across the street is a must-see...

Discover the Hot Springs State Park Bath House, located in Wyoming's Hot Springs State Park. This free facility maintains a soothing temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit and is renowned for its therapeutic properties. The hot springs have been sought after by Native Americans, early settlers, and travelers due to their believed healing powers. In addition to the bath house, visitors can enjoy swimming at the Star Plunge, explore the game room, or simply admire the local wildlife.
5/23/2025-Soothe for 20 minutes for free in either indoor or outdoor pools. RV entrance is NOT to drive under low bridge, white signs posted have you drive couple blocks to the right of the main entrance. Plenty of R.V. parking in the park across the street with nice picnic tables and room to run the your dog. Clean showers, restrooms and pool area. The staff is friendly and informative. Pools temperatures are around 104 (hot tub warm). The Teepee room next door you can soak longer for a fee in numerous indoor/outdoor pools and they have water slides. The park next door we cooked dinner and enjoyed the picnic tables and cool breeze. This area is well worth your time.
Glenda N — Google review
A free, 20 minute soak in natural hot spring mineral water with an indoor and outdoor pool and clean shower and locker rooms. We weren't clear if over 20 minutes cost money or if 20 minutes was the maximum, but also they weren't constantly checking up. Also, don't miss the great boardwalk across the hot spring terraces, right behind the bathhouse. Gorgeous formations, and the boardwalk leads to an impressive rope bridge for views from the outcroppings across the river.
Taejas K — Google review
100% enjoyable and worth the drive, the views were amazing. Lovely town it was really hard to leave. What a unique experience.
Sam S — Google review
We loved it hear! It was beautiful! Drove around a small area and saw Buffalo then came back for a short hot spring 20 minutes free, it did have a strong suffer smell but the Additional magnesium and health benefits were worth it!
Rena P — Google review
Great Place for a picnic or hot springs soaking. The Teepee pools cost around $15 per person per day. The state run pool is free but there is a 20 minute limit. Plenty of free parking. Worth a visit. Hotels nearby
John G — Google review
Such a cool place!!! The 20 minute soak was delightful. We then walked the boardwalk while we dried off.
Melissa S — Google review
Beautiful place! You are ONLY ALLOWED 20 MIN SOAKS AT A TIME. I did not know this on arrival after a 4 hr drive :) hot water and very clean facility! Free to enter :)
Gemini M — Google review
This is a good place to soak in mineral hot springs. Friendly staff. Clean showers. I was not sure of it until I got there but I can say it's great. Interesting area with the spring that feeds the pool and a bridge across the Bighorn river. Both indoor and outdoor pools. Limited to 20 minutes of soaking. Really a nice surprise in a calming park.

P6 Station is a popular restaurant in Thermopolis, Wyoming, known for its great food and service. The cafe offers a variety of dishes including custom pizzas and jalapeno popper specials that are highly recommended by visitors. The atmosphere is pleasant with the option to dine on the patio. Despite being busy, the wait staff is efficient and attentive. Many patrons have returned due to their positive experience at P6 Station, making it a worthwhile dining choice in the area.
Definitely recommend and worth the wait! Extremely fresh and delicious! Excellent customer service and the employees are very friendly. Great atmosphere and will definitely dine there again! Thanks.
Ricardo T — Google review
Great service and taste of the pizzas. Limited menu options, but they do things well and are super nice. My only issues were that the portion sizes were small and the garlic bread was quite doughy with cold dry marinara sauce.
Dilan H — Google review
There’s not a lot of places to eat in this town, but this was perfect. The food was delicious and service was great. Plus, you can brings dogs on the outdoor patio.
Rachel — Google review
We got the Rancher. It was large enough for two/three people to share. It was an excellent thin crust pizza. The staff was very nice and answered our questions about the food. This isn't a large restaurant. There is seating inside and outside. There is only one toilet, which was clean. It is a nice pace with very good pizza.
Mumen R — Google review
We loved our dinner at P6!! We ordered the Alfredo cheese bread, a ranchers pizza and a chicken bacon ranch pizza. We also had a gluten free pizza with no cheese. We all loved our food and left very full and happy!!! (2 adults, 3 teens - one with gluten and dairy allergy) Fun fact... The Alfredo Dipping bread is $10 and the same size as a pizza! The baked dish of sauce it came with was awesome with our other pizza crust too. I 1000% recommend getting this app to supplement your pizzas and maybe even to replace one pizza! When we arrived around 6:15 there was only one other group eating inside. About 20 min later the entire restaurant was full.
Shannon D — Google review
This place is a magic little hidden gem. It’s not what you would expect from your typical, small town Wyoming pizza joint but in the best way possible. The menu is not huge but has plenty of variety and they aren’t all your typical options. There is something for those craving standard pizza fare but also for those more adventurous foodies We had two pizzas and garlic cheese sticks. All had excellent flavor. The crusts are thin, slightly crunchy and yummy. I have a food allergy and the staff took extra care to make sure I was taken care of. The atmosphere and decor were fun, a nice step up from the usual small town expectation. The staff is very friendly. We asked the waitress more than our fair share of questions and she made us feel like friends. If you find your way to Thermopolis, you should add this to the list you places to visit.

We had to make a last minute dinner decision and tried P6. The pizza is really great. Hot, delicious and the crust was particularly good. Service was friendly and professional. The T shirt selection is particular good, for those looking for souvenirs. We would return next time in Thermopolis.

The atmosphere is friendly and the service is fast, making it a great place to start your day. We were delighted to stumble across this cafe. We enjoyed seeing the quilts and pictures on the wall. The serving sizes are very generous. The menu says Colossal Salad, and it doesn't lie! Good was delicious, server was friendly. I would go back again if I am in the area.

Stopped in for breakfast. Had the protein omelette. Meal was delicious. Worth stopping by. Come for breakfast or early lunch, they close at 2pm. Came back Sunday morning for breakfast and coffee. Another delicious meal. More than I could finish.
Ray S — Google review
Wonderful local diner with delicious breakfasts and outdoor seating if you want it. Portions are very big and service is attentive and friendly. I had a basic breakfast and it tasted great. They had yummy rye bread and look at the cool way they fold it in my pic. It's a nice touch that shows they aren't just throwing hash, they really care about their food and customers. I'll definitely be back.

Brianna was an excellent sever, she got our orders just the way we asked. It was very busy.

My last stop before leaving my home town. Great food, and service. The CAFÉ'S BUFFALO BREAKFAST- Buffalo Burger, Topped with Homemade White Sausage Gravy and Two Eggs, was excellent.

Service was casual/friendly, varied menu options. We chose to share a cinnamon bun which was huge, soft on the outside but hard in the centre. Coffee was ok but nothing special

The Safari Club, situated in Hot Springs State Park, is a unique attraction within Days Inn that showcases an array of wild animals from around the globe through photographs and life-sized mounts. The ambiance exudes a nostalgic feel with wood-paneled rooms adorned with old hunting expedition photos and taxidermied trophies. While the menu leans towards casual dining, the food is delicious and promptly served. Visitors can enjoy appetizing dishes like spinach and artichoke dip, fried mushrooms, and rib eye steak.
Had another great meal here. The Jack Daniels Steak Sirloin steak was really good. The loaded baked potato was so perfect. The service was great
Garland R — Google review
Less than a stellar experience. Firstly, the hostess was going to sit our party of 5 at a table at a table for 4 because we had 2 kids with us, like somehow our kids are less than people and don't deserve their own seats. When I explained to her that our kids, albeit little, are still people and need a seat she looked at me bewildered and reluctantly sat us at a six top. Mind you, we were the only ones there at the time, they weren't in need of table space. We ordered the Rocky Mountain Oysters for an app and it was basically fried breading, hardly any meat. I had the sirloin for dinner, ordered medium rare but came out much more medium well. It was quite thin but was nicely seasoned so it wasn't terrible. The atmosphere is pretty unique with a bunch of big wild game trophies in the bar and fishing trophies in the restaurant area. The saving grace here was our server, Brandon. He was attentative and very pleasant. If not for him, service would have been no stars. At the end, they wouldn't even let us split our check, which is ridiculous. It's a hard place to recommend but it is cool to see the animals and they do have good people like Brandon working there.
Philip Y — Google review
The restaurant was close to our hotel, so we gave it a chance. Ate from the lunch menu. I had the grilled cheese and ham with the chicken vegetable stew. The soup was good. The toasted ham and cheese sandwich was over cooked on one side and very salty. My wife had the bourbon burger. The burger was soggy with the sauce. She had the cottage cheese as her side was good. They were short staffed, having one waitress that was called in on her day off; she was running around trying to keep up.

We had a fabulous meal. We got a Prime Rib, a New York, and a Sirloin steak, all cooked to perfection. Delicious horse radish as well. The fried mushrooms were the best I have ever had. And the clam chowder was very good. For a family of 5, with small children, I cannot recommend this enough. Amazing waitress and wonderful atmosphere.
Jennifer R — Google review
This was incredibly sad meal. I paid $20 for "hand battered chicken strips". Frozen chicken strips from Walmart would have been better. My friend had the nachos.... They looked awful and he could not finish them. My daughter got a grilled cheese... It was cold.
John W — Google review
I really wish this had been a better experience, but it was disappointing from start to finish. The restaurant itself is extremely bright inside—not cozy or welcoming—but that was the least of the issues. There were two bartenders, two servers, and (I assume) kitchen staff working, but our server, who seemed new, wasn’t getting any support from anyone else. She barely spoke to us, and I don’t blame her for struggling—it felt like no one was stepping in to help her. The biggest issue, though, was the food quality and pricing. We ordered fried pickles for $10.99, and I kid you not, there were maybe 12 small pickle slices total. That’s basically a dollar per pickle slice, and they weren’t even good. The chicken strips and fries were $19.99. The chicken was fine (though not hot), but the fries looked like a child’s portion—we literally had maybe four fries each. I was honestly shocked the server brought it out without noticing how little food was on the plate. Between that, two Busch Lights, and one cocktail, the bill came to $60 before tip. For what we got, that price was outrageous. This wasn’t about paying extra for a nice atmosphere either—the lights were blinding and the vibe was just off. Overall, it was one of the strangest and most overpriced meals I’ve had in a long time. I left wishing I had asked for my money back.
Rachel P — Google review
I enjoyed the place. I had prime rib and thought it was good. Dont let the poor reviews push you away. I travel for a living and eat alot of places and dont have complaints. I dont go to a bar/resteraunt with a pool table thinking im going to get sprinters for service I fo to relax and eat not rush. Like I said no complaints here

A hunters dream come true! We were looking for a place to stop on our travel and when you’ve got kids you often try to find fun places to keep them entertained. This did exactly that. It’s located inside the hotel and every wall is filled with animals of every kind. Of if you just stop in for a look it’s worth it because I doubt you’ll see a place like it again. We got a few things but the deep fried mushrooms were some of the best I’ve ever had! The waiter was really sweet about our kids even though the area didn’t seem super kid friendly. We had a mistake with our order and it was an easy fix without any issues!

Perfect, loved the organic variety of groceries. Excellent pizza subbed the cheese for tomatoes and mushrooms, vegan. Provided an assortment of unique Tea bags. Up level, elegant. Locals speak highly of this place. A nice respite while camping.

The best breakfast in town! Outstanding quality food with great service and good prices. We tried some highly rated spots around but found them average or even below. This is definitely a go to spot. Just first place your food order when you enter the shop and then whilst waiting for your food look around in the shop to get the organic or gluten free or simply the best quality food or drinks or cosmetics. Definitely try their home-made balsamic honey vinaigrette. I travelled the world and can tell you this is the champion to put on your salad.

My favorite place to eat in Thermopolis - can't go wrong with any of the salads, wraps or flatbread pizzas. The food is always fresh and well made - they are so consistent. For a small shop they have an amazing selection of things - it is like a little Whole Foods. Good place for finding little gifts and they always seem to have new things in stock.

If you're looking for something a little more healthy and full of vegetables in Thermopolis. I've had a couple of their different wraps they are packed with vegetables and good flavor overall. I recommend the Greek and the chicken Adobo wraps. The Crow Bar is located in the back of the well stocked health and wellness store.

Super excellent selection of high quality herbs and supplements… good brands etc. In fact one of the best I’ve seen traveling through many states… stock up while you can, I don’t find a selection like this often.

Cool place! Like a tiny Whole Foods. They had a freezer section, snacks, crystals, soaps and natural toiletries, and wind chimes galore! There is like a little cafe in the back. We had the turkey wrap and it was tasty and fresh. They also make smoothies. They tasted healthy, like they're made with frozen fruit and not a lot of added sugar. And yes, they have a bathroom for customers. FYI, you order your food in the cafe, then take the ticket to the front to pay before going back to pick up your food.

It is amazing what they have done to the old A&W. It is a great place to stop on your way through town wether it's just you or the whole family.
