Ghost town
Sights & Landmarks
Goldfield Ghost Town and Mine Tours Inc. is a reconstructed 1890s town that offers visitors a glimpse into the Old West era. The historic Apache Trail Tours take guests on guided journeys through Arizona's deserts and canyons, providing stunning views and expert insights. At Goldfield Ghost Town, visitors can participate in activities like gold-mine tours, Old West gunfights, and shopping at western-themed stores.
Great way to spend a few hours. Family friendly! The food in the saloon was great! We loved the mystery box. From zip lining to the mine tour, the shops and food everything was fantastic. I highly recommend! Even on hot summer days you can cook off in the buildings. Bring cash to tip the guides!

Tourist trap. The staff was friendly. The building didn't feel authentic. I bought the combo tickets - mine tour, mystery shack and train ride. Mine tour was informative, interesting but short. The mystery shack does not allow you to carry babies in and when I bought combo tickets at mining tour booth they failed to tell me that even though I made sure to ask questions about having a baby. Train was was neat ride and the conductor had great stories! I'm a sucker for gift shops but didn't buy anything because it felt too over priced. Bathrooms were clean. Overall worth checking out at least once.

It was a very cute town. They have fun people on the train ride and mine tours with lots of interesting facts. We ate at the Saloon and they had live music. Lots of gift shops! Free to get into Ghost town and wander but $10.00 and up for everything else. We had a great time. Beautiful view of the Superstition Mtn.

Cool old west town with great desert mountain views. Had a chicken sandwich and delicious Sasparilla for lunch in the Saloon. Bought a die cast cap gun revolver for my son in the toy store. Die cast metal. Good quality.
Bob E — Google review
After watching this mining town on ghost adventures and tfil overnight Elton it was awesome to check it out in person. The tour guides were awesome in listening to people and their experiences. Actually using an EMF detector and letting us have moments in silence to interact with any entity. *Only issue is there should maybe be a age limit for the night tour because there were a few children that would keep interrupting silence moments or just talking and didn't want to be in the dark which was a little disruptive. The town looks like it would be fun to check out in the day time

This place was so cool. Had a blast with my family. Handmade crafts. Stories and fun shoot outs in the street. Lots to do.
Jolene B — Google review
We had a fun day at Goldfield Ghost Town and Mine. We toured the mine to see how gold was mined by hand. We saw a wild west shootout. We rode the train around town. And we walked through a mystery house. We really enjoyed it.

A fun place to bring friends from out of state. Shops, train ride, gold panning, gift shop and more. Great for photo opportunities.

State park
Nature & Parks
Campground
Lost Dutchman State Park, located in northwestern Pinal County, Arizona, covers 320 acres and is a paradise for nature lovers and history enthusiasts. Nestled near the iconic Superstition Mountains along the Apache Trail, this park is steeped in the legend of the Lost Dutchmans Gold Mine. Just 40 miles east of Phoenix, it offers hiking trails and mountain biking access to the Superstition Wilderness with stunning mountain views.
Lost Dutchman State Park blends stunning desert scenery, striking views of the Superstition Mountains, outdoor adventure, and rich legend in a compact, visitor-friendly setting ideal for both day trips and overnight stays under the desert sky. During summer, temperatures can become extremely warm even by 9 a.m., so hikers should plan accordingly and take precautions if venturing out during the day. The park is also a good spot for birdwatching, with opportunities to spot small mammals such as cottontail rabbits.
Ubaya M — Google review
Avoid the high-numbered camping sites! The scenery is amazing, and there's enough space for large RVs, but if you reserve a site in the high-number loop, you will be far away from the bathrooms (about half a mile - on a dirt trail!) And won't have WiFi reception... So it's 5 stars if you are near the bathroom and the WiFi, 3 if you are not. Oh, yeah - make sure you take a site with power connection, especially in the hot season - an AC is a must during the day, but generator hours are really limited.
Nitsan A — Google review
Very nice campground and great views. Hiking is not the greatest. Steep, loose rock and just not our type of thing. We like the switchback style vs the basic straight vertical style. Our next trip will be sitting at the camper enjoying a drink while looking at great scenery. Definitely worth the visit.
Mike S — Google review
Picturesque Arizonan Desert and oh so HOT! Bring plenty of drinking water. Incredible sunsets with park proximity to an old ghost town. RV spots not terribly close with water and electric with dump station on the way out. Dog friendly, but lots of prickly things off the pavement.
Tim D — Google review
Ten bucks to park and worth every penny. You get clean trails, friendly staff, and some of the best hiking views in Arizona. I hit Flatiron while I was there, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The climb hits hard but rewards you with views that make you forget how much your legs are complaining. The park is spotless, the trails are clearly marked, and even the bathrooms were clean which is rare enough to deserve a shout-out. Bring water, snacks, and a camera because every turn looks like it should be a postcard. If you live in Arizona or you’re just passing through, go here. Hike, explore, get dusty, and enjoy one of the best slices of the desert you’ll ever see.
Mike M — Google review
Camping prices went up to $50/spot, which, without sewer, is steep in my opinion. We stayed in the 75-104 loop and I don't recommend it for big rigs - it is right. There are also no restrooms on this loop. We appreciated the trails, restrooms were clean but a bit run down. Note that there is very little shade in the campground or on the trails so be prepared with water, sunscreen, and hats.
Wendy T — Google review
Camped here. Lovely campground, beautiful views and hikes. Showers should be cleaned daily, but they are not. Arizona State parks have increased the price of campsites ..... services should reflect that.
Elle D — Google review
Other than the gate that closed on us at 10:00pm and we arrived at 10:03pm and there was no gate code, let that be a warning to everyone! This park is incredible and a great place to stay. We also recommend Goldfield town across the street as a short day trip.

History museum
Museums
Nestled at the foot of the Superstition Mountains, the Superstition Mountain Museum in Apache Junction offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of the area. The 12-acre museum showcases regional artifacts, Native American tribal exhibits, and displays on early gold prospectors. Visitors can explore Wild West movie memorabilia, old movie sets, horse-drawn buggies, and full-sized dioramas. The museum also features an Elvis chapel and hosts various events throughout the year.
The museum itself is inside the visitor center and is quite small. A lot of artifacts and history but may not be interesting or engaging for smaller kiddos. The gift shop and volunteers are definitely worth the trek inside though! Outside is where all the action is!! There's a wonderful walking trail around the museum with smaller ones winding through all the displays. There's also signage and explanations for many of the displays on the trails. We were confused by the little numbers throughout the walk, apparently somebody was going to do a plant walk but it never got completed! Hopefully the model train is running when you visit because that is a great journey through the old west. There's a scavenger hunt for the kiddos (and adults) that really makes you look close!
Cindy P — Google review
I am a stickler for random things and history is my love language. While the museum itself is quite small the lot itself has some great items. I came specifically to see the Elvis Presley Memorial Chapel that was donated years ago and moved from its original location at the movie lot it was at. My mom was the biggest Elvis fan and this chapel was part of his only film ever made where he did not sing. If you’re an Elvis fan you know that’s a big deal. They now hold weddings and other events here. It looks great outside. Inside it holds some movie memorabilia etc. fun stop and my mom would’ve loved it.
Janelle — Google review
Small and quaint museum. We enjoyed the story about the lost duchman. There are some interesting and historical exhibits to look at outside as well. Nice array of items in the gift shop. There are a few sit down spots to watch a video.
Gillienne C — Google review
15 acres site with several different attractions. The Elvis chapel from the movie Charroland the Apacheland barn which were both moved from the original movie set from there original location off Kings Ranch Rd in Gold Canyon. There is a small museum and gift shop. The museum covers the local history of the superstition mountain and Lost Dutchman mine folklore. On certain days during the mostly the fall /winter season they have local historians talk about the history of the area. The visit should take about a hour or two at the most.
James J — Google review
Enjoyable and a fair deal on Groupon. The inside museum was very well designed and has great descriptions. The grounds were also nice, with a very touching memorial at the back to those lost on the mountain. Sadly, the train exhibit was closed, my primary reason for visiting, so that left me frustrated.
Bikes W — Google review
This visit is about going to the Superstition Mountain Museum. The museum was a treat and well worth the time we spent there. There is much more to see than the few photos. The one thing I wish I would have taken a picture of is the Spaniards' Conquistador chest plate, helmet, and sword.
J R — Google review
Nice little museum with a little bit of 'everything,' and the grounds have some fun little things too.
Kim S — Google review
I love this place! Such an iconic western vibe. The Elvis chapel with the Superstitions nestled in the back really bring out a random mix and twist of beauty. The museum is actually very well done and articulates the early western films that were created near the Superstitions. It was surprising to see actor boot prints in concrete on display. My kids were able to pan for fools gold and we watched a cowboy shootout; what a fun family place!

Embark on a journey through the ancient and breathtaking Apache Trail, North America's oldest highway. This scenic drive offers stunning views of canyons, mountain peaks, and desert lakes that exude the charm of the old West. While it may be one of the most dangerous drives in the country, worry not as experienced tour guides lead the way with fascinating tales and knowledge about the land's history, wildlife, and local legends.
Highly recommend the two hour tour. Super fun, saw some wildlife, and learned a lot! The Sandman was an awesome tour guide. We will be back for the longer tour in the future.

Took the one hour jeep tour. It was very enjoyable. Fast Eddy was our guide and he was funny and informative. I thought driving through the desert was gonna be pretty lame, but was a great off-road tour with lots of interesting hills and washes. Highly recommend this tour group.
Karen L — Google review
‘Fast Eddie’ gave us a fantastic one hour tour. He talked extensively about the cactus varieties, the history of the region, and the animals that still inhabit the Sonoran Desert. The tour is well worth the time and reasonably priced!
Rita G — Google review
We had such a great experience with Apache Jeep Tours! Jan was so lovely and wonderful to work with from booking the reservation through the day of our Jeep Tour. She was also very flexible with us as we were slightly late for our scheduled time and had to adjust our tour a bit - her flexibility and positive attitude were greatly appreciated! Additionally, our two tour guides were great as well! I would highly recommend them! Thanks for a great experience!
Francesca G — Google review
It was an exciting tour of the desert. Our guide had loads of information about the desert and was very interactive. We learned about the plants, mining, wars, and history of the desert. And the ride was so fun and rugged.
Jessica C — Google review
Tour was fantastic. Our tour guide, Eddie, was a wealth of knowledge and made sure everyone had a good time. Lots of good history and beautiful sites. Definitely worth it, especially if you have a limited amount of time.

An Oasis in the Sonoran Desert!! Fast Eddie gave us an absolutely fabulous tour, sharing detailed perspectives on the history, landforms, wildlife and local legends! He was a master on the backroads and took the time to share a wealth of knowledge. We even got to see a javelina!!! There were only 2 in our group, but through a quick exchange by email and phone via the Apache Trail Tours website, we were able to join another group, which was pleasant and fun! Highly recommended!! Four thumbs up!!!

Superstition Zipline in Goldfield Ghost Town offers an exhilarating ziplining experience that allows you to soar through the air and enjoy a bird's eye view of the stunning landscape, including the Superstition Mountain. The staff, particularly Todd and Shelly, are known for their friendliness and attentiveness to visitors' needs. The zipline is suitable for all ages, with even an 80-year-old enjoying the ride.
Shelly was awesome and helped me on the zipline It was smaller than I expected, but it was a rush. The ride up was nice too and I got some great photos from the top and of my reaction when they took a photo on the way down.
Laura B — Google review
The kids had fun on the super short ride. I believe they should have a 5-point safety harness vs. one single strap. No wait. Pricing could be a lot better. You can choose some photos they took on the ride. Just keep in mind that this is an extra add-on and not included in your regular tour fee of the ghost mines. Service guy was respectful.

I am visiting from New Jersey and spent the day at Goldfield. My niece (10) and I decided to do the zip line together. It was fun and we did the 1/2 price second ride as well! I would recommend trying it - super safe!

This review is long over due! My son has autism and is nonverbal. I have been bringing him to Ghost Town for his bday for the last few years. He enjoys it, I enjoy it, and the views are amazing! My son especially loves the zip line. He asks to go to GT specifically for it. the gentleman running the zip line is wonderful and patient with my son. He is understanding of his disability which makes it easier for me to continue the tradition of brining him for his bday. Thank you Superstition Zipline for helping me make my sons bday special!
Letty L — Google review
What a great experience! I took my 11 year old son for his birthday! (We have been a couple times over the years) The man running it was so nice and he even remembered my son’s name when we came back at the end of our day! He mentioned that in April of 2024 they extended the zip line to make it longer and taller. They also made it to where you sit at the top for 7seconds. And you can tell, it was totally worth it! My son will always remember that day! Thank you nice man that helped us, we forgot to get your name!
Jessa T — Google review
The zip line itself is pretty okay, just pulls you back and lasts less than a minute when it lets you go. Would be fun for kids and was alright for adults. The rest of the town is very cute and fun but they sell lots of Trump coins/cash so be mindful it has the Christian/Republican/Conservative atmosphere that somewhat takes away from the western theme at times if you’re looking to do more than the zipline itself.

Best experience ever. Visitors from France and Canada. Todd was excellent, professional, took care of our entire party and made our time memorable. Would absolutely recommend the goldfield ghost town and especially the superstitious zip line !

Pub
Nestled in the heart of Apache Junction, The Handlebar Pub and Grill is a cherished local gem that captures the essence of comfort dining. With its inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a cozy backyard gathering, this establishment offers an impressive selection of bar favorites alongside rotating craft beers on tap. Guests can enjoy live music while relaxing on the charming patio, making it an ideal spot to unwind after exploring the nearby Superstition Mountains.
We came for lunch on a Thursday and had an awesome experience! Tanner was a fabulous server, while simultaneously managing the bar. He was welcoming, funny, and gave us good information about the menu and drink options! Tanner also let us know that they do not fry anything. Everything is either grilled or smoked! They have a large selection of Arizona meads, something that I adore, and I chose to get Drinking Horn’s Blue Tooth mead. So good! My husband and I ordered burgers. They were cooked wonderfully and we had a great lunch! I am gluten-free and was able to get a gluten-free bun. Can’t wait to come back.
Leanne R — Google review
If I could give it more stars, I would. Family owned and operated. The staff made us feel at home, so very pleasant. Tanner explained that they grill or smoke everything and you can tell. The food was really good. They host some great events. One of these times we will have to come for Thursday tasting. I had the pizza burger and blue cheese potato salad. The burger was done exactly how I requested and the salad was perfectly balanced, not overpowering. My husband had the chicken panini and side salad. The chicken had a little spice and was delicious. The salad was a generous helping of greens with a light balsamic dressing. The Outlaw brew was really good. We asked Tanner for a recommendation and he picked it perfectly. Meeting the owners Candice and Denny were an added bonus. Oh, and the beer handlebars on the ceiling were priceless (Photo attached - sorry, we couldn't wait to start eating).

So next time you're in Apache Junction in Arizona stp on in and see for yourself. You most definitely won't be disappointed

We had a great, reasonably priced meal. My husband and I both ordered the steak with the smashed potatoes. I also had the Zuchini and he had the smoked jalapeño corn. All delicious! Our waitress was great at recommend ing craft beers. The music was good and we sat out back.

The owner of this bar is an amazing woman. Very friendly place. Live music all the time. They have options if you want to eat or drink inside or outside. I visit there once a week to play trivia. The food is good, but if your looking for deep fried food this isn't for you. Everything is cooked or grilled. Burgers are wonderful 😋.

Rolled in here while visiting our son at ASU and going on a late afternoon hike at Lost Dutchman SP. Hostess was so nice and seated us quickly. They had a special for our Friday dinner of Pecan Smoked ribs. The menu is not extensive, but definitely some different items. I had the stuffed pepper and it was outstanding. Beer selection is so varied and should suite any taste. Service had a small issue with timing of the meals, but the drinks and quality of the food made ip for the small issue. Janet was a great server with a warm and welcoming smile!
Mark W — Google review
Today my friends and I visited the Handlebar and I cannot wait to come back. The food was excellent!!! I had the Pasilla (sp) pepper stuffed with tender smoked pulled pork that was delish! Megan was our server and she was excellent and FUN!. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food too and we had a great time hanging out there. We must sit outside next time as Tanner took me on a tour of the place and the patio with the fire pit tables are very cool. We all enjoyed the vibes here and we plan to return soon to try other dishes. Thank you for such great food and service.

First picture MY chimis tonight burnt and nasty! 2nd photo of what a real chimi platter typically is. Non the less forgot my sides. It was truly a disappointment. Considering we eat here often I myself can eat very few things only to not being able to eat my dinner at all tonight. Do better. And I hope you make this right! Truly a waste of money for a to go order. My order was under Adam. And he loves your food. So please do better. And maybe give him a credit for this horrible horrible chimi platter you made this evening!! You all weren't busy for a mistake like this. Thank you !

First time here and it didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere is pretty nice and the service was fast. Our food came out so quick and it was fresh. We had the grande house margaritas and they’re really good. I had the chicken fajitas and hubby got the shredded pork chimichanga. The portions were large so it’s worth the price. Chips and salsa were good too, ask for the spicy salsa!

I've been to Apache Junction on multiple different occasions but this was the first time I had the pleasure of trying Los Gringos Locos. While staying at the Motel Six down the road my fiance asked the lady at the counter where she'd recommend to go for good Mexican Cuisine. She immediately suggested Los Gingos Locos. So to the restaurant we went! And what a wonderful choice it was indeed! The food and service were very good. Immediately got seated and had a great time looking at the wall art. I will say that out of the food we had the pork burrito thingy was simple incredible!! I would drive all the way back to Arizona just to have that again! Next time we're in AZ we'll certainly be popping in again!
Jessie — Google review
TLDR: a decent American Mexican restaurant similar to an “El Burroto Loco” in Michigan, or an “Abuelo’s” here in AZ, but more American style, in my opinion. This is a favorite place of one of the members of our party, and I would recommend giving it a try. I started out with an Arnold Palmer, as it’s one of my favorite drinks and I’ll always order if I see it on the menu. Not sure if it was just my drink or if they’re always like this, but it tasted sulphuric, like really hard tap water. I ended up ordering a Michelob Ultra which was as expected and good 🍺. Our Party ordered: MINI CHIMI PLATTER - 6 House made mini chimis, 2 bean (flour tortilla), 2 chicken (whole wheat tortilla), and 2 shredded beef (chipotle chili tortilla), topped with cheddar cheese, tomatoes and green onions. Served with sour cream and guacamole.- and they substituted out the shredded beef for 2 more bean chimis. They seemed to like their dinner, so I’d say this is a recommended dish. Salmon taco. I tried to take a picture but it was far away, so the quality of the image is foul, but the taco was good 👍. SEAFOOD CHIMICHANGA -Our seafood combo wrapped in a flour tortilla and deep fried. Covered in poblano cream sauce and jack cheese. Topped with tomatoes and green onion. Served with sour cream, guacamole, black beans and poblano rice.- 2 members of our party ordered this and they both liked it. Would recommend. COMBO PLATTER: Green Corn Tamale, cheese enchilada, served with beans and rice - I ordered this and the green corn tamale was FANTASTIC! I’ve never had one before. Where I’m from, the only tamales you can get are generally pork, so to have a vegetarian option was amazing to me. The flavors and textures were perfect. Would definitely recommend. The service was sort of spotty. As you can from when we left, there was nobody inside, but maybe everyone left before we did? Our server was not as attentive as I would’ve liked, and we asked for hot sauce for the chips and salsa (like spicy hot sauce) 4 times before she eventually brought it, as she kept forgetting about it when she would bring things to the area for other diners. She did apologize each time for forgetting, and said she would be right back with it, but we were waiting for it to eat the chips. Not a HUGE deal, but mildly annoying. I am slightly a Karen 🤣, but I have worked in service, so I understand busy days or just a bad day for the employee (which I assume must’ve been happening because it didn’t seem that busy and I saw multiple other servers working). Anyway, for that reason I’m leaving 4 stars for service, not 5 stars overall. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dirtwater Springs is a charmingly rustic restaurant known for its unpretentious American and Mexican dishes, as well as a weekly fish fry. The ambiance is steeped in nostalgia, with brass bar fixtures, plank floors, and an array of antiques and decor that offer a glimpse into the history of the Southwest.
Great old time Arizona decorated restaurant. We basically came here for that reason. Had the chicken parm noodles were a little under cooked but it was still delicious. Philly cheese steak didn’t have much flavor and the kids got a couple things they enjoyed. I would come back. I love these types of restaurants. Beverages are almost $6 and the only water is bottled and $2.95 so don't be surprised. Lunch for three was $66 for the 8 oz burger and fries, two turkey sandwiches with chips, and three soft drinks. We left with full bellies and I don't feel cheated.

Very expensive, not worth it. I asked for two waters, it would have been nice to let me know they're $3 each, half the cost of my meal was bottled water - $6. I ordered a grilled cheese (American) and fries. Cheap bread, cheap cheese, decent fries, terrible value ($12). Great view of the mountain(s). Bit warm at 4pm inside, rundown and dirty all around. Men's bathroom is on its last leg. Overall an okay experience.

I’ve been here a couple of times now. The service is slow, the well water makes any fountain drink taste off, and the steaks are terrible. But the live music is nice and outside seating is sort of scenic. The old west feel is fun for kids for sure.

I was really excited to visit here. I heard the food was wonderful and the view was amazing. Well, the view was amazing and the restaurant decor was neat. As for the rest, I was disappointed. The prices were quite high, but from the descriptions on the menu, it sounded worth it. My son and I wanted to try the burger and chicken sandwich that said it had sautéed mushrooms, onions and pepperjack cheese. The menu was deceiving in its description. The pepperjack was not real pepperjack cheese, but American style white cheese. The onions were soggy and the mushrooms are canned (even cold to the touch). The chicken had no seasoning and they only give you a packet of mayonnaise to add to your sandwich. The fries were only okay at best and did not come out hot. My other son did try the pulled pork bbq and the meat was decent, but small for the cost. My daughter got the chicken tenders and the were mostly breaded and not as much meat. Plus, for $14 and being an adult portion, she only got 3 peices. They only serve $3 bottled water (no free tap water) and paid for drinks, so it's sad they charge so much per bottle. For 4 people, with no drinks mind you, I paid $70 for terrible food and we all left still hungry. The bathrooms were gross and had no soap to wash my hand. I do not recommend this place. Have fun and go eat somewhere else.

Very good food, friendly service, and nice music. It's worth a visit, and the price is reasonable.

Live music and an amazing view!!! I love saloons and this one is just really good! The perfect decor and an amazing view to the mountains. The waiter was super helpful and attentive. The pulled pork sandwich is delicious! The French fries are good. We had the opportunity to see live music and we loved it. Totally recommended!

First time dining here, and what a pleasant experience! We had immediate and amazing service. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and on point. The food came out perfect! I was beyond impressed with the steak and eggs breakfast. I literally cannot remember the last time I had a perfectly cooked steak and eggs come out on the same plate until today! What a wonderful little restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Great breakfast spot with great prices. Gets packed pretty quick. Took us a while to get noticed to be seated, but once we were seated, we were served right away. Food was good , coffee was hot and although it was busy the atmosphere was very much upbeat with " regulars" meeting up from a quick bite.

Nicky D’s is a restaurant that has great character without trying to, genuine, seems like a great gathering place, layed back and enjoyable. The food is very, very good with good sized portions, and the service was on top of it,very welcoming. We plan on making it our go to restaurant. Thank you

I ordered a taco salad. The shell was dripping grease. I did not even eat it. We went to check out. I told the cashier how bad my food was. She never even acknowledged it. Wow so many places to go Definitely never coming back.

My family has been going here for many years. My son always looked forward to the chicken fried steak until the day before Mother's day this year. The quality of the meat was terrible - lots of gristle/chewy pieces which made it impossible to enjoy. We haven't been back since. Definitely a bummer
