It's probably the best Greek/ Roman ruins we've visited outside of Greece. It was pretty quiet in February, which was perfect. The paper guide is very good. We didn't get the audio guide, but they sold an expanded guide, which we picked up.
Incredible place to come spend a couple of hours learning about the 3 civilizations that lived in the area 2000 years ago. Small paid parking lot or you can take a long walk from town. Starts off near the parking lot before you go into the paid area with the arch that you can see starts the road into the old town. Get tickets at the reception center/gifts shop and opens up to an awesome area of ruins. Take the trail to the left first and it will loop back. We got the handheld speaker to help explain a bit more and it was definitely worth the 3€ for our small group. However, there’s a lot of good info posted around the ruins in French, English, and Spanish if you don’t want to pay for the speaker. Make sure to hit the viewpoint at the end of the route that comes back down to the trail back to the start. Good for the kids, especially the ones with an interest in Roman history. There is also a little cafe inside the area and picnic area out front.
Great site and much larger than expected. You can get a real understanding of Roman life from the ruins and printed leaflet (in English). Worth spending an hour or so on site visiting. You might be able to park outside the Saint Paul de Maisole hospital for free (as the car parking opposite is expensive).
A good set of Roman ruins with a nice visitors' center. Not as spectacular as others you can find, but still very interesting. A nice add on to a visit to St. Remy.
Easy access and plenty of nearby parking, there is a short walk to the ticket office and gift shop. There is a restaurant ready to take your order and provide an amazing picnic. Don't forget to bring your blanket this place is very relaxing with exceptional breezes and plenty of sun.
We enjoyed visiting this ancient site and eating lunch in the cafe there.
Loved our visit to Glanum. Visitor center is well maintained & staffed with knowledgeable people. We got the audio guide which explains everything you’ll see with clarity. Fascinating place, well worth the stop for a couple of hours.
Such an interesting place to visit, lots to see, plenty of parking and a nice walk to it.

Psychiatric asylum where Vincent van Gogh painted as a self-admitted patient from 1889 to 1890.
Slide 1 of 8
Had a brilliant visit! It was very inspiring and being where Van Gogh created some of his wonderful painting was quite powerful for me. It was just nice to be able to sit in the garden and enjoy the surroundings. It was busy but not overcrowded, visited on a Wednesday in the afternoon.
Very interesting to see where he created some of his best and most memorable work. Impressive to walk through the house, spaces and gardens that inspired him to paint his work. The house is nicely set, giving you a good idea of the spaced he resided in. 9 euros for entry, free for kids under 12. One feedback is that they brochure/info can be improved, they just give you a printed paper as information.
Fascinating insights into Van Goghs mental decline. I found the museum very moving and peaceful. It’s an interesting site showcasing the support given to mental patients in the nineteenth century. Allow an hour for your visit and you can walk up to the Glanum Roman site after if you wish.
This was a very interesting experience. You get to see the main rooms of the former asylum, the doctors offices, the sisters / nuns, some common areas and Vincent Van Gogh's bedroom. They're is also the cam we're people were locked up when deemed "problematic", the bath room (equally as daunting) and also the cloister and gardens. Now, the parking was very limited but there is a paid lot nearby. There are only stairs to the upper floors so not accessible by wheelchair.
Phenomenal place, with lots of interesting information and facts about Van Gogh and his work. Highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of his work and who wants to see the places that inspired Van Gogh the most in his best paintings. It was incredible to look into the studio where he painted and to walk around the grounds and gardens that inspired his most famous paintings.
MUST for van Gogh fans! A working rehabilitation house with paintings from actual patients are as impressive the copies of Van Gogh's strumming about the space. Beautiful, peaceful, and somewhat haunting.
We decided to head to Van Gogh’s asylum late in the day and arrived shortly before it closed at 1800/6:00pm. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I can tell you honestly, what we say was a lot better. I had no idea how many of his seminal works came from his time in St. Remy! Walking around and seeing the vantage points from where he painted the masterworks you’ve seen forever was pretty special. On the other hand, some of the things they did to those people in the asylum were pretty barbaric. We followed the paper guide that was provided and it told a great story. We took 45-60 minutes to wander around and see what we could see. We took loads of pictures and used our imagination. Something we learned on at the end of the tour was the asylum still hosts people in need of help. Obviously in a modern facility across the property, but they use the same art therapy that they used during Van Gogh’s stay. I recommend a visit, but remember, it’s not flashy, it’s just a special place that will move you.
Excellent expedition gives a real insight into the man himself, he's background character and unquestionable talent. Brings the whole story to life seeing where some of his famous paintings were based on. Highly recommend.

An experience that should not be missed. This is a classic Provençal farmers market with a range of goods from charcuterie, fruit, fresh produce, spices (herbs de Provence made locally)bread and other baked goods, fish, oysters, etc. on the non-food front there are clothes, hats, soaps, unique t-shirts, paintings most of these items have the artist on the creators sitting at the table. Most of the vendors spoke multiple languages so communication is not a problem if you don’t speak French.
Great place to visit on a Wednesday Morning. Short Drive from Marseille.
Lots of stalls to check out and lots of food, it is fairly busy, but plenty to go see
Only locals, as it was January! Friendly people, good food - we loved it!
The Wednesday market at Saint Remy is a must visit. It offers a wide array of high quality fresh produce, cold cuts, excellent cheeses, pickled olives etc. besides all kinds of clothing & shoes. There are several antique shops selling silver and other adornments. Cannot return empty handed.

A short walk from the old part of town. Two absolutely stunning examples of Roman monuments. It is hard to believe how well presented they are. They are free to visit, too. A great addition to your visit to Glanum.
I stopped off here quickly whilst doing the Van Gogh walk, I didn't have time to look at the main ruins (which I regret). I just had time to take in the two structures near the carpark. Very interesting, I loved the Bad Relief panels and the close access you could get to these Roman ruins
Les Antiques are historical monuments marking the entrance to Glanum. The Jules Mausoleum dates back to 30-20 BC. The Triumphal Arch dates from 20 AD but most of its upper part has disappeared. It was restored in the 18th century. It is adorned with reliefs illustrating Caesar's conquest of the Gauls.
Beautiful structures from an age long past.
It was formerly the entrance to the city of Glanum. The Jules Mausoleum was erected by the Julii (one of the major Roman families), in honour of their father and grandfather. It is particularly well preserved. It has a rectangular base with four sculpted fasciae, it is surmounted by a triumphal arch, on top of which ukulele have a small round temple with columns and a pyramidal roof; this temple houses the effigies of the two people to whom this exceptional monument is dedicated. The Triumphal Arch was restored in the 18th century, when its roof was replaced with slate stone. It is adorned with reliefs illustrating Caesar's conquest of the Gauls. However, the fruit and foliage, symbols of abundance, suggest the benefits of pax romana.
7 euros for parking for the whole day, was not possible to pay per hour. There is a cafe inside, but not possible to enter without a valid ticket. Photos are made in a "free" area.
A little hard to read the signs as they have been weathered down and have become a little hard to decipher, however this is a magnificent site which I highly recommend to anybody who likes history even a little. It's along the Via Domitia which is the oldest road in France and it is impeccably preserved.
Some bedrock Roman ruins, a triumphal arch and a tower, free to see but parking costs money, walk over the roof to see the ruins of glanum!

Excellent small local museum with first rate exhibits of the Alipilles region. Impressively laid out to make the most of the space, easy to move through and learn about the area. Located in a former mansion and right on one of the town’s loveliest squares and street (rue Carnot), this was a treasured find for our family who loves museums of all kinds. Recommend using Google Translate on your phone if you do not speak much French as exhibits are (obviously) in French. First rate experience!
Visited twice. Fascinating about the history of teasels and how there was a whole industry in the region in the C18 and C19 as they were used for carding wool. Some are still used. Plus other interesting exhibits on the flora of the region and local landscape. Mostly in French, with some English translations if you want them.

The museum offers an immersion in the history, culture and traditions of the Alpilles region, which encompasses a mountainous area rich in natural and cultural heritage. Its collections include exhibitions of archaeology, ethnography and popular art, which allow you to explore the daily life of the inhabitants of Provence over the centuries. There are also displays on agriculture, crafts, rural life and traditional products such as olive oil and wine. Additionally, the museum houses works of art including paintings, prints and photographs that portray the beauty of the region. (Translated by Google) Very interesting museum if you want to know the history of this region. Typography, agriculture, typical period clothing, paintings and much more. There is also a small exhibition on cicadas, I didn't understand if it is temporary or not. The visit lasts about an hour, the cost of 5 euros is correct and they gave us a pass to pay less for other attractions. The only thing I would do is put the descriptions of the objects/works in English too. The friendly museum guide explained everything to us, but if you want to look alone and don't know French it's a bit complicated.

It presents quite varied collections (paintings, furniture, everyday objects, etc.) on the popular traditions of Provence. The visit takes a good hour if you want to cover all the sections in detail. It allows you to learn more about the history of St Rémy after strolling through the typical streets of the historic center. During the same stay, we visited the Museon Arlaten in Arles and, in my opinion, the visit to the two museums is complementary for those who want to know more about the roots and traditions of the region.

Very friendly and helpful staff. We are silly travelers that tried to go to Les Baux in the winter and didn't know options were very very limited (no bus). Staff was able to call a taxi for us and let us know about how much it will cost. (Reasonable) We were able to visit the Chateau des Baux with their help, which was a big relief because we came very far to see this. Thank you for making it possible!
The Ladies at the Office de Tourisme were very friendly and helpful. We were able to store our luggage for free and found our hiking destination easily thanks to their directions. They even spoke german with us! Thanks again!
We really appreciate your kind help on 2 July, Aurelie! We value your patient service and good information, especially to see the Lavender Fields. We took some beautiful pictures of the roadside lavender fields in Bonnieaux & Lavensole. Your smile and attentiveness made us feel welcomed to St Remy de Provence, thanks so much Aurelie! We are from Hong Kong. God bless!
When we visited they gave us a lot of good information and a nice map to help us find the Van Gogh related sites, especially an avenue with explanations of his artwork in the areas where they were created. We were pleased with their friendly service.
Excellent and friendly service. I belatedly discovered that my rental car agency required a hard copy of my voucher and would not accept a digital version. Since it was a Saturday, the few copy centers in town were closed and I had to pick up the car in Avignon the next morning. I explained my predicament to Aurelie who very kindly printed out the voucher for me. Thank you so much Aurelie!
Very good service, they provided activities to do in the city, maps and recommendations.
We visited the office on a Thursday at 2.30pm and its unexpectedly closed. I realise it’s not peak holiday season, however it’s not low season. 3 other couples visited at the same time.
Very helpful staff. Lots of information available. There is a car park here and it is only a 5 min walk into the village centre.

Amazing small museum which explores the life of Van Gogh. Sadly no original Van Goghs on display, but the other exhibitions were amazing too.
One of the most welcoming museum/gallery experiences we've ever had. The delightful lady at the desk was charming, full of information and not a little mischief! She made sure we had everything to ensure we got the most out of our visit and was very knowledgeable about the works and displays. We didn't even have to apologise for being English!
It is a small and charming art museum, with basically no collection of Van Gogh’s work. We visited on July 6. When we asked questions in English, the ticketing lady responded with a long string of French, then told us in a rather unfriendly manner, “That’s how it feels when I hear English,” which took us by surprise. We understand the pride French people have in their language. However, for foreign visitors, speaking only English is not necessarily a choice, often the only option. This was the only negative encounter we had during our two-week stay in France. We sincerely hope this lady will come to better respect international visitors.
Really enjoyed this little art museum. Yes, they have a Van Gogh presentation, but no Van Gogh's. That was made perfectly clear by the woman that sold us our ticket at the entrance (she did a great job). But the exhibitions they had were great. Well done and I think better than the Van Gogh documentary. Skip the Van Gogh presentation (you can get most of that on line) and go straight to the art. Small enough to cover in an hour as you explore St Remy.
Such an interesting museum. When in Saint Remy absolutely worth a stop in. There are no actual Van Gogh’s but a very interesting exhibit that explains his life and especially his time in that region in France.
Not really worth the entry fee. There isn't enough quality art on display to justify the fee. The Van Gogh thing is like a school project, it's a joke. Even with the audio guide device none of it is interesting enough nor is it anything you can't get from a Wikipedia page (not an exhibition, none of his actual work is on display). There seems to be a French attitude with "museums" and galleries prevalent in France where travelers are only there to be taken advantage of. They'd charge unreasonable sums of money while they feel nothing much needs to be provided in return. It isn't money or time I cannot get back. You could spend your time and money elsewhere in better ways so stay away.
Another excellent local museum in St. Rémy-de-Provence. When we visited at the beginning of October, the museum closed for two hours at noon for lunch. We arrived after lunch and had the place virtually to ourselves - it was a delight! Very informative museum host, Chantal, took our ticket money and explained the museum, carefully explaining that there are no original works of van Gogh’s on exhibit here, but rather the exhibition about him is cultural and ethnographic and describes his life and experiences in St. Rémy. Great description of van Gogh’s life and particularly how his periods of painting changed based on his life events and time at the mental institution in St. Rémy. Lovely movie with images of surrounding countryside Van Gogh painted and reproductions of how he painted them. Audio guide available for free in English for VG exhibit. Another exhibit was on when we visited - of Juliette Roche, a contemporary painter from the early 1900s. Madame Chantal explained about Roche’s work for us a bit, which made the visit so enjoyable. Permanent paintings also include some Roche works, as well as some of her husband’s (who’s name I forget at this moment), and a few other contemporary artists who worked locally. Great museum for small St. Rémy - very worth our visit!
There are no Van Gogh's works. Only detailed information about his life. I did not get this info from web page. Very nice lady at cash desk.

Great wines. We booked a wine tasting and got the tour of the chateau. Our hostess was very accommodating and friendly, answering all our questions and giving us useful information. Their rose was one of the best we’ve had in Provence and their aged reds were simply exquisite.
Absolutely wonderful tour of winery and cave. Reservations a must if you want a tour. The place is a short drive from Saint-Remy, but there’s a bit of unpaved road so give yourself plenty of time to get there. Built into the side of a mountain using really interesting architectural techniques, the tour was really informative. The space is beautiful and leads to great views. Wine is really good and tasting includes a spirit and olive oil.
We’re arrived here based on the reviews. Good choice. The host was attentive and helpful, the wine is great. No words about the property. Simply amazing. Definitely worth a visit.
It was an adventure finding the winery, but only a short drive from saint remy. I’m SO glad we made the effort. We had a private tasting and tour. What a beautiful place, and a wonderful guide who spent so much time telling us all about the winery. And she was so lovely and answered all of our questions. It was one of the highlights of our trip! Highly recommend!!!
The hospitality was rather poor and not very welcoming. The guide just went for his presentation and some facts and did not really try to make it interactive. However, the visit of the cellar was impressive (Extremely modern technology) and interessting in general. The actual tasting was carried out in a hall while standing which was uncomfortable. The wine did not meet the expectations. Eventually, they also produce nice olive oil.
After following many twists and turns from D99 (watch carefully for signs!) we arrived at an imposing structure at the foot of the Alpilles. We were cheerfully greeted, offered some wonderful "degustations" (tastings of some of their wines), and brought into this amazing "cathedral" built into the mountain, and lined with huge oak wine casks. The gentleman explained their processes (understood much better by my daughter who is the wine connoisseur in the family) while I happily snapped a few photos. We departed with several bottles and enjoyed a wonderful bottle of their rose in our patio that evening. This was one of our favorites of the Provencal wineries that we visited.
Lovely winery. Unique in its setting as well as the fermentation cave.
Very charming place the hostess was very professional and made us a nice visit. Very sad to learn Madame Charmolue passed away. The wine are still very good we tasted most of them my friends enjoy the cellar lost in the mountains.

Wonderful little museum that you should not miss if you visit Glanum excavation site. Small but very informative historic presentation. The site also evokes a sense of the continuity through the centuries.
A small museum dedicated to the excavations in Glanum. Interesting but small and you would struggle to spend an hour there.
If you didn't speak French, you won't get much from this. There are leaflets experiencing the exhibits but very few of those are available in English.
We bought the tickets for both Glanum and the Hôtel de Sade museum (billets jumeaux) but we weren’t all that impressed with the museum itself. It’s really more about the excavations of the site of Glanum, with fewer artefacts than might be expected. The museum is in St Rémy de Provence, a bit of a walk on a very hot day.
The museum does not have much to offer and can easily be skipped. It does not at all stand up against the ruins on the outskirts of the city. The museum struggles to even fill anything of importance in it's four small rooms.
Darn place doesn't open until until June 17 despite it's relationship to Glanum and it's status as a " Centre Des Monuments Nationaux". How disappointing! It's an archeological museum, folks, so don't get turned on or off because of it's name.

Le musée n'est pas très grand mais il permet de découvrir de très belles sculptures antiques et de magnifiques chapiteaux sculptés découverts à l'occasion des fouilles réalisées sur les lieux de l'ancienne cité gallo-romaine.

Amazing experience. The tasting was amazing. I learn a lot the woman in charge was very nice and take time with us.
Vineyard was gorgeous and did enjoy wine but not most engaging host. It was just before lunch break and empty besides us.
A small vineyard producing only 100,000 bottles a year. The red and rose' wines of any vintage are amazing light and fruity.
Delicious rose! Arthur at the boutique was very friendly and helpful!
Lovely wine and beautiful setting in rural France.
(Translated by Google) Superb place. The path to get there is magnificent, right in the vineyards and with a view of the Alpilles, I advise you to go there at sunset. The store is small but very well done. The wine is very good. You can taste it of course. The jams are very good too! (Original) Superbe lieu.

We were always warmly welcomed and served professionally. So unfortunately I can't understand the 1* reviews here.

A visit us reccomended as its a beautifull building.
Major renovations underway. There is a small area that can be visited. Worth a stop if you’re passing by.
A beautiful church, with a dome that is reminiscent of the ones found in Rome. Beautiful stained glass windows and paintings on the walls
Nice church, especially the dome is exceptionally big for a town this size. Free entrance.
Finally found the church open during our stay and it was well worth the wait. The impressive domes reminded me of the pantheon in Rome!
Impressive catholic church.
Very nice inside! Worth stopping by
Beautiful worth the visit.

You could do no wrong by finding yourself for a wine tasting at Domaine Milan. From the scenic route in to the charming vineyards of natural wine to the owners, this was just about as perfect of a wine tasting as you could get. In particular, Natalie is incredibly knowledgeable about all things wine and spent so much time talking to us about the vineyard, wine, and even gave (and helped book) recommendations for food in the area. Truly a day we will cherish for a long time! Plus, if you’re lucky, you’ll get to spend some quality time playing fetch with Oreo and spotting Luna walking around. Thank you again Domaine Milan (and Natalie) for a great day!
Such an amazing winery, top of the notch wines with great stories. Went to 10 wineries in Provence and this had the best tasting wines. We will be back!
Exceptional wines, but a disturbing experience. My partner and I were excited to explore natural wines and booked a tasting at Domaine Milan by phone only a few hours ahead, after careful research. When we arrived, we were greeted by a woman named Natalie, whose manner was brusque and dismissive. She immediately questioned how we’d found the vineyard, remarked that tastings were “very unusual” at this time, and said things were “crazy right now”—all in a way that made us and the other guests feel as though we were inconveniencing her, despite our confirmed booking beforehand. The tasting itself was generous—the pours, the range of wines, and even the offer to waive the fee with a €60+ purchase all felt thoughtful at first. But as it went on, the atmosphere soured again. When my partner asked sincere follow-up questions about details Natalie herself had mentioned, she dismissed them, suggesting that we “educate ourselves” with French books instead. She struggled to maintain a professional dialogue and repeatedly emphasized that she usually serves “professionals,” implying that ordinary guests don’t merit the same engagement. We left unsettled, great wines in hand but with the clear sense that our curiosity wasn’t welcome. Exceptional bottles, yes, but there are friendlier places in the region I’d recommend first.
Really wonderful experience visiting Milan winery and the town of Saint Remy. The tasting was one of the most thorough I’ve experienced in the 30+ wineries I’ve been to. The hosts Natalie and Theo are so knowledgeable about French wine making traditions, agriculture and specifically natural wine. We got to taste so many varieties and learn so much about the grapes and harvesting. We also got to taste a gin they are producing that was really unique and tasty! Super beautiful area in Provence with traditional architecture, lovely weather and beautiful views. The hosts were also full of recommendations for local restaurants and things to visit in the region.
Have drank Henri Milan’s wines at home in Los Angeles, so it was a pleasure to visit their winery for a tasting. We tasted 10 wines, all of which had their own unique personality. Bonus points for all the cute farm pups wanting to play fetch ;)
We had such a wonderful time with Sebastian at our tasting! The wines were fantastic and we had a great time chatting with him and learning about their history. I love that the winery has a lot of recognition in the natural wine community but was not pretentious in the slightest. We got to meet the owner who was very kind. Bonus points for having an adorable vineyard doggo 🥰 highly recommend a stop here!!
The wine itself was excellent, but the tasting was one of the most unpleasant experiences I’ve ever had — entirely due to the host, Natalie. She was shockingly rude and unprofessional, which completely overshadowed the quality of the wine. When I asked a simple question about the winemaking process, she not only failed to provide an answer but responded with condescending facial expressions, as if my curiosity was an inconvenience. Instead of creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere, she managed to make the entire experience feel hostile and uncomfortable. Hospitality requires warmth, respect, and at least a basic level of knowledge — none of which were present here. It is deeply disappointing that such good wine is paired with such appalling service. I would strongly advise against this tasting if you value professionalism and basic courtesy. Edit: I made an effort to clear the air and give the benefit of the doubt. The reply only confirmed my impression. See the attached screenshot
Stunning place, great wine and amazing people! We had a wonderful time with Natalie, who was warm, funny and welcoming. She gave us such a pleasant, down to earth tasting. We cannot recommend Domaine Milan enough!

This garden full of all kinds of bamboo is well worth a visit. Beautifully landscaped paths, with beautiful ponds and water basins with beautiful water lilies. The bike ride from Châteaurenard is only 7.5 kilometers and goes through a beautiful landscape. The welcome at the park entrance is friendly and welcoming. So: highly recommended.
Lovely tranquil garden and very helpful and interesting owner who told is the story of the garden’s development and future plans.
Special and very quiet place. Very enjoyable visit.
Great place to beat the heat and enjoy a nice walk through a shaded bamboo garden with lots of interesting nooks and crannies
We really enjoyed our visit, the owner was very kind and you'll get free bottled water, we paid 12 euros for 2 adults, free for our children, 5 and 8 yo. Thank you for your hospitality sir, we'll return one day.
We visited in the Autumn...twice in 4 days. The colours were amazing! Follow the predetermined route but allow yourself time to sit and take in the serenity and peace of this wonderful place.a truly relaxing experience for mind body and soul.
Great place to visit. Very nice garden and interesting people. Calm, relaxing atmosphere. Lots of bamboo !
Magical, peaceful, tons of fun to follow the arrows through the bamboo maze. We were offered insect repellent and bottles of water (free). Shady.

(Translated by Google) Attractive gallery but we couldn't admire more, given that the woman who runs the place is just execrable. My partner and I were getting ready to enter the gallery. She was on the phone and about to hang up. The manager approached us like a fury, claiming that no one should have a phone on the premises. Shameful for her! It is a great lack of respect to address potential customers in this way. The window is not everything, relationships are essential. I don't recommend at all! Fuyez
