What an excellent place! The castle is really impressive with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. We climbed to the top tower, languished in the dungeon and walked round the entire moat. The surrounding area is beautiful (the views from the top tower were breathtaking) and the whole site is very well kept. We had a coffee in the cafe at the end, which was very welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed out visit, great value for money.
Had a free day pass for two adults courtesy of the Daily Express. The Castle is set back above the village of Goodrich, surrounded by green fields. Plenty of parking which is charged at £4 for the whole day. Disabled parking is nearer entrance on the level. But if not able to walk from the entrance the disabled can drive their vehicles closer to the Castle. With each entry you get a voice recorder which describes sections of the Castle at certain points. The Castle is very well maintained considering the age. Good views of the surrounding area all around the Castle. Worth a visit, there is also a cafe and gift shop at the entrance.
I used to go as a kid roughly 20 years ago and I found it is still fun to go even today! The area is well protected and preserved. Local cafe anf gift shop with easy access toilets. The castle is stunning! The people were friendly and were ready to help even when we forgot our batteries, they honestly went above and beyond! 5/5 stars in all areas!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Visited recently during a weekday, a nice walk up from the car park with beautiful countryside views. Impressive castle remains overlooking the river. You can pick up an audio guide at the shop / entry point if required. Lots of history as this Norman castle was stormed during the English civil war.
Superb - really great visit to the castle today - loads more to see and explore than we thought! Nice little cafe and gift shop, plenty of parking. Do have yo pay to park and enter prices are typical for English heritage site (pricey) but the site is well worth a visit.
Definitely a good place to visit, especially if you are history nut or have children interested in medieval knights and damsels in distress. From a military power perspective it's certainly impressive and understandable in the landscape. My only grump is that £62 for 4 adults plus parking is pretty steep now. Add in a cafe stop and that's a big day out for most people.
As EH members, we were looking somewhere to visit whilst on holiday and dog friendly. Found Goodrich Castle great place to visit, some great history and some well preserved ruins. Stopped at the cafe for lunch as well, which was excellent and good value. Well worth a visit.
Amazing place, but if you plan on joining English Heritage to get the free entry do it before you go as the setup takes a long time. Apart from that the castle itself is impressive and interesting, beautiful area to get some amazing photos.

Kept at tropical temperatures, this indoor attraction lets visitors get close to exotic butterflies.
Slide 1 of 8
We completed the butterfly zoo and crazy golf in the space of roughly 1 hrs but this was when it was super quiet when children were in school. It is great you can come and go as you please throughout the day. However, when paying to park that doesn't mean you want to hang around for long. Clean toilets in car park with lots of benches to have a picnic on. Space for coaches and campervans in car park. If you have time the crazy golf is a lot of fun.
Fantastic little quaint butterfly zoo. Reasonably priced including a round of mini golf if you wish. A great idea was that you can come and go throughout the day as many times as you like. The venues is only small which was perfect for our 6 year old. Some stunning butterfly species inside.
My second time visiting here and it’s such a lovely day out! You can spend as long as you like with the butterflies or come and go as you please. It’s a beautiful setting and if you speak to the staff they are happy to share their knowledge! Love love love!
It was just a lovely experience. Never done anything like it and certainly would again. The place isn’t huge so anymore than about 50-60 people and it would be a bit of a squash. Reasonably priced and a nice touch supplying a magnifying lens and cards with details on each butterfly. Nice facilities available for food and drink. There is a crazy golf course but we didn’t use that. The one big thing to be careful of is the parking! They want you to pay when you LEAVE so make sure you do read the small signs that are there so you understand the process. I could see why a lot of people finish in the attraction and then simply leave incurring a nasty fine afterwards!!
Lovely visit, the number and variety of butterflies was great. The staff were friendly and helpful. The free flying butterflies were relaxing and fun to watch, my daughter loved it when they landed on her. Beautiful drive to get there along the river Wye.
Interesting place with hundreds of exotic species flying around visitors and sometimes landing on them. The caterpillars and chrysalis display were informative. The old church on the river is a couple of minutes’ walk and worth a look. Plenty of parking.
The Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo is a beautiful, peaceful place to visit. The indoor tropical hothouse is teeming with a stunning variety of free-flying butterflies, and it’s truly wonderful to see them up close, even landing on you if you're lucky. The path through the enclosure is easy to navigate, and it's fascinating to learn about the butterfly lifecycle. On a practical note, the facilities at the Wye Valley Visitor Centre complex are well-catered for. There are clean and accessible toilets, including baby-changing facilities, conveniently located near the car park. While there's no major restaurant, a cafe and ice cream parlour are available, offering snacks and drinks. There are also plenty of indoor and outdoor picnic areas if you prefer to bring your own food.
Lovely place to stop off and visit the wonderful variety of butterflies. Great staff, friendly with a smile and there's a hedge maze, crazy golf and cafe here too. A brilliant place to take the little one if you're looking to kill a few hours.

Great group of guys providing an excellent service. Canoes are well maintained and safety is upheld with the briefing. Lovely variety of options for day, half day and quarter day hire with good maps and guides to the areas! Beautiful area with lots of nature and the company supports local business with recommended stop-offs. The mini bus to the drop-off point is really handy and the car park is large with good prices for the day. Dry barrels provided to keep your property dry and safe too! We had a great day canoeing for the first time and would happily return business to this company!
Really great experience, we did the 2 day kayak to Ross on Wye and then to Symonds Yat. Really beautiful stretch of river, I was a bit worried about missing the camp site or the end point but it was really easy to find both. You get a good safety briefing and they explain everything you need to know before you go out, you also get route maps for each day. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we had a great time, I'm really looking forward to doing it again.
I went canoeing today using Canoe the Wye and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. I messed up with my final payment and they were so brilliant and helpful. Considering it was completely my fault they could have easily cancelled my booking and made more money but they didn't and they couldn't have been nicer and more patient which I really appreciated. The whole experience was just brilliant. The staff are lovely, it was so well organised and explained really clearly. The canoes and equipment were brilliant, especially the waterproof barrel to keep our things dry. The route is just stunning as well as the places to stop off and even the weather was great. I would 100% recommend using Canoe the Wye and will definitely be only using them in the future as they are by far the best company I've used, mostly thanks to their wonderful staff. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.
We visited Canoe the Wye in late August. I was with my son. We were initially overwhelmed with the number of canoe hire options in the area so decided to check a few out the days before we booked. Canoe the wye stood out in terms of price/value for money (they had a weekday offer!) friendliness/helpfulness of the team location and ease of parking. I experienced issues with the online booking system and called them. Nick was really good and resolved the problem and we booked no problem. On the day the safety briefing and drop off was professional and organised. The driver was great and chatty on the short ride to the launch place. They were helpful getting the canoe on the river as my son is only 13 and didn’t quite have the strength to carry it down the short bank. Equipment was in good order and map with local info provided. They suggest lunch stop with local cake shop welcome rest!!Would definitely recommend.
After some research, I found this company offered the best price in the area. We booked two boats for 90 minutes and, as complete beginners, weren’t sure what to expect. The staff gave clear instructions and even tied our boats together so our family could stay connected. It turned out to be a great team-building experience and very relaxing once we got the hang of paddling. We brought a bag with snacks and enjoyed a mini picnic along the way. My family and I had a wonderful time canoeing on the River Wye and would definitely book with them again.
Lovely couple of days on the river Wye. A great experience with clear instructions, quality equipment and a friendly welcome. The set up is well organised, with clear maps and transport to the start point. A daily land based check in provided, along with local knowledge. On return, two guys at the landing point ready to take our canoe for us and make the finish point a smooth as possible. Thanks to you all, throroighly enjoyed it all
Had a great 3/4 day trip on Sunday. The staff were excellent and knowledgable. Easy check in and safety brief was concise. Quick trip in a mini bus to the start then a leisurely paddle back down stream. We stopped off on a shingle beach for our picnic. However, places for lunch are hard to find due to land owners not liking the canoes to beach on 'their land', signs everywhere. Wildlife a plenty and we even saw a kingfisher. Great fun for an afternoon.
We did the 3/4 day and had a really good experience, Canoe the Wye are well set up and make it easy to prepare for, find and enjoy the trip. With a low water level and gentle current it was easy to just paddle along with no fear of capsizing. We all stayed completely dry. Given a stronger current it would be even more enjoyable, on the day it was plenty fun enough, with time allowed to stop for some lunch as well. Recommend, book early as they will be busy over the summer holidays

I recently celebrated my birthday with a canoeing trip from Ross-on-Wye Canoe Hire, a thoughtful gift from my family, and it exceeded all expectations. The staff's warm and welcoming demeanor immediately put us at ease. They provided comprehensive safety instructions, covering everything from paddling techniques to river hazards, which made us feel both secure and confident. The equipment was well-maintained and in great condition, which added to the overall positive experience. The scenic beauty of the river, combined with the staff’s excellent guidance, made for a perfect day out. Their attentiveness ensured that we could focus on enjoying the tranquility of the water and the stunning views without any worries. The entire experience was seamless, and it was clear that the team at Ross-on-Wye Canoe Hire is dedicated to providing top-notch service and safety. It was a memorable birthday adventure that I will cherish, thanks to their professionalism and friendliness. I highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a fantastic day on the water! ⛴️
Staff were friendly & showed good banter. They were knowledgeable with their instructions & safety talk. Would recommend & will use them again in the future.
The instructions provided to finish the site were excellent, so we arrived in good time, were kitted out and taken to the launch site very quickly. The friendly guys chatted to us on the way, gave us some paddling guidance and talked us through our route, places to stop, what to look our for at the landing site and what to do when we got there, as well as an indication of how long it could take. We had a great day on the river, the instructions were very useful and we got to the landing site a little early, but they came straight out to pick us up. The whole experience was fantastic, it was very relaxing and lovely to see all the birds at their level
These guys are very friendly and welcoming. They give a very detailed briefing on how to go canoeing, no doubts left. If you enjoy rowing, I recommend them 100%.
A great place to rent a canoe and paddle downstream for a few hours. Easy to get to and with plenty of parking, the team here make everything so easy. They load you up with everything you need and then drive you up river before the safety briefing and getting you in the water. The distance (7 miles?) is easy to cover in the time given (4 hours) so it allows for some downtime on the banks of the river. We were even given a route to a lovely ‘refreshment house’ this time round. Top rated.
Opted for the full-day for 3 people so we could take our time. Lovely sunny day to start with and a perfect way to see this beautiful part of England. Started to rain as we got closer to the end point and totally missed it! Went thru some rapids and managed not to capsize but realised we’d gone too far. Had to get out and walk a bit to get a phone signal but Mark and Phil were only too happy to come and rescue us even tho that probably impacted their end of day. Can’t recommend enough even with all the aches and pains I’ve collected as souvenirs 🤣 A+++
We canoed from Hoarwithy to Symond's Yat with this company and found them to be great. Canoes were in really good order, and we were provided with a barrel for our dry belongings. They also kindly carried out canoe to and from the water's edge so no heavy carrying which was nice. They were very upfront and honest with us and suggested we stopped in Symond's Yat rather than Monmouth because of the heat, as we had booked. Very professional company overall.
Fun, friendly, good kit and canoes. It is what it says on the tin - canoe hire on the River Wye. A brilliant day out with the family, so much fun. I highly recommend it and would happily rent from this company again.

Lovely place to visit. It's local, and I strongly believe in supporting local businesses. Yes, it's not state of the art. There isn't loads to do. But we had such a relaxing day, and the kids really enjoyed it!
Went to pass some time as I live close by. It was ok for me but if I'd come on holiday here, it would be pretty grim! Soft play had bits of gaffer tape on it and looked very old and run down and a lot of the arcade machines weren't working. Couldn't see any staff there whatsoever either
We used to go here every single weekend when we lived near Ross. We were good friends with the owners but we visited not that long ago and it seems to of been run down so much from when I look at only photos as kids. The man at the prize counter sat on the phone and told us to wait till he had finished very rude.
Enjoyable experience. Plenty to do there. Nice and relaxing watching the boats and canoes on the river
Symonds yat west! Great when the sun is shining! Nice cocktail bar and decent arcade. Kids love it.
No hot running water, most of the machines was turned off. The majority of the ones switched on didn't work.
Has a wide range of amusements inside, mainly for children including trampolines, bumper cars, soft play area and an amazing bouncy castles which is enormous! Almost all of their machines are the generic 2p slot machines that you find at most arcades. The location us great, the parking is ample and there are bars on site if you fancy a bite. In my opinion the place could do with a bit of refurbishment to liven it up a bit but on the whole I had a great experience there.
Arcade not great, most machines are broken and a lack of staff, prizes are not worth it (just plushies) there was only 2p pushers and 8 ball pool. In general not worth it and it's overrated.

My family recently went on a 4-day tour from London to Normandy. From the beginning, Jo was so helpful with helping us plan this tour. Our tour guide, Andy, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. He made our trip so special and enjoyable! Thank you In the Footsteps for such an incredible tour!
We had the best, most jam packed 3.5 day custom itinerary discovering the WWII invasion from the American perspective via “In The Footsteps” and highly recommend if you are considering a bespoke tour: >> Day 1 was Point du Hoc, the landing at Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery >> Day 2 was the landing at St. Mere Eglise, touring La Fiere (82nd Airborne), Picauville, the landing at Utah Beach, tour of Patton’s headquarters at Nehou, and a drive to Hotel La Marine at Barneville-Carteret >> Day 3 was following the 4th Armed Division through Raids to Coutances (had a stop for lunch in Coutances), the liberation of Avranches, Pontaubault bridge site, to the breakout and conclusion of Operation COBRA, ended day with a lookout of Mont Ste Michele >> Day 3.5 was witnessing the 30th infantry division at Le Neufbourg A great many thanks to Paul, for keeping us safe over the many miles of driving us to and from each historic site, helping us load and unload our baggage into each accommodation for the night. It was a packed few days but we certainly could not have done it without him. Thank you Jo — for her attentiveness, and care to detail and logistics that helped pull this incredible itinerary together - all the restaurants and unique hotel accommodations together made for the most amazing experience. We had lots of constraints we were working with (some travelers coming from London, the whole group wanting to get 1-2 days in Paris together after the itinerary, etc.) And Ian! Thank you thank you thank you for not just whittling off a history lesson or going through a timeline, but for making the figures we read about in books or hear about real, for making the ground three-dimensional, for putting history into a narrative through your storytelling and having us walk the actual footsteps of these brave men — it made it come to life more than any history class ever could have. For that we have much to be grateful for in reflecting upon the past few days. We took this trip to France in May 2025 a week before the U.S. Memorial Day to celebrate our dad’s 60th birthday. A proud American and West Point graduate, he wanted nothing more than to spend it with family, honoring those who gave their lives for our freedom. Thank you to everyone who supports “In The Footsteps” for helping us create lasting memories by walking the very paths of those who came before us.
Hello All,my name is Tony Evola and I hold the distinction of having had the longest tour in the history of this fine company...25 days. As a boy I became fascinated with history and became well read by the time I was ten years old. As the years went by I wanted to be able to visit all the places I had seen in pictures and read about .Well it had to wait till I was an old man but I contacted JO at In the Footsteps and laid out my tour request. I am here to tell you that both IAN and JO set about designing a trip of a lifetime a real bucket list tour. I let Jo know of my special needs as I had some disabilities and infirmities and boy did they deliver. So whether it is transportation, medical assistance or just plain being older I encourage you all to send them your requirements and they will help you with anything that you might feel is a limiting factor about your tour. Our guides were strangers when we met them and we parted as friends. David, Ian and Bob were pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable and even laughed at all of my jokes! As both my wife Jeanine and I have had multiple orthopedic surgeries they were patient, helpful and carried our bags or helped deliver them to our rooms.I was fortunate to have three men who also loved history and were all retired Colonels in the British army. Finally I lucked out in having two of my guides be the outgoing president of the tour guide association (Ian) and the incoming president(Bob). My reason for writing this extensive review is simply this: if you are looking for a tour of two days or one month, please do yourself a favor and contact In the Footsteps. I know that I will never be the same as I too have now walked the hallowed ground that was paid for with the ultimate sacrifice by our ancestors who gave us the freedoms that we enjoy today. Good travels...Tony
A superb WW1 Battlefield Tour for a party of 28 retired Naval Officers and wives mainly from Liverpool. Administration at all stages was sound and consistent. Transport arrangements worked well with an excellent driver (Mike) and a very spacious and comfortable coach. Ferry embarkation each way was hassle free,DFDS ferries excellent. Our Tour Guide (Tim ) was always helpful, very knowledgeable in every respect and the itinerary he planned met the aim of following the Royal Naval Division on the Somme and at Passchendale. Accommodation at Ypres at the Ariane is to be highly recommended. "In the Footsteps" delivered an excellent tour in a helpful and constructive manner. May 2023
My family had an amazing time on our trip. Jo and Ian planned and executed a perfect itinerary fit for our family. For someone who isn’t the biggest war history geek in my family, the tours were extremely interesting and easy to follow along with Ian’s notes/diagrams/extreme expertise. Each stop on our tour was very memorable, and everyone walked away with tons of takeaways. Aside from the tours, each hotel/restaurant was picked with intention and fit our family great. As long as you communicate what your’e looking for, they’ll be able to find exactly what you want. Thanks to both Jo and Ian for an unforgettable trip to celebrate my Dad’s 60th birthday! I would 100% recommend to anyone interested.
Two of us travelled to Belgium and France on a tour of WWI sites, organised by In The Footsteps. As well as visiting some of the key places and memorials, we specifically wanted to trace where 3 of our ancestors had fought and where one of them had died. These 3 were from very different backgrounds; one was British, one Canadian and one German, and we only had detailed information for one of them. Unperturbed, our guide rose to the challenge and not only put together an interesting and thought provoking tour that painted a clear picture of the war, but was also able to uncover considerable information about our ancestors that we did not know beforehand. We had a thoroughly enjoyable trip and would recommend In The Footsteps to anyone wanting to explore any of the battlefield areas. Jan and Melanie - June 2025
My husband and I booked a DDay tour with Adrian as our guide. From the first communication to the last wave goodbye before we boarded our ferry taking us back to England, everything was streamlined and first rate. We were taken to little known sites and filled with so much knowledge that we both leave with a better understanding of what took place on the beaches of Normandy.
We did a WW2 tour through France with Ian and In The Footsteps with our family of 7 (5 adult children in their 20s + 1-year-old) and a friend. Several things made it truly outstanding and the only way to go! We had a terrific upfront session with Ian and Jo several months before our trip. They instantly “got” what we were looking for - D-Day, Patton’s breakout through France, and first-class accommodations. We toured the Normandy Beaches and airborne drop areas, seeing all the key spots and battle moments from June 6-7. We then picked up the route of Patton’s 4th Armored Division through Western France and towards Paris. Ian excelled in 2 ways: 1) Clearly explaining the larger-scale historical context along our trip. Heading into every site, most of which were “battles inside battles”, everyone understood the bigger picture and larger unit situations. For those not as familiar with details, this was obviously very helpful. 2) We had numerous stops with “critical moments”, such as the taking and defense of La Fiere bridge. Ian showed where units and junior leaders were on the ground and where fierce firefights occurred. He really made the battlefield “pop”. Throughout the trip, our kids talked about a newfound appreciation for what our military does. There’s no way visiting a monument or even having someone explain its significance has that impact. You see the tanks, the Panzers, the infantry because of the detail to which Ian speaks. Also, the trip logistics and accommodations were first-rate. Jo handled all our route planning and booked us in the exact types of places we wanted. Our van was spacious and enjoyable for our family so we could be together and comfortable. Accommodations were terrific, meals were planned in advance, and everything worked. All we had to do was show up. You know you’re with a great outfit when they attend to details - like having emergency diapers available - with ease. There is no way we could have done this on our own. If you’re making the time investment for this type of trip, you don’t want to be disappointed about the accommodations, hitting the right historical spots, or detailed but clear history-telling. We know from experience that other guides can be hit or miss. Ian, Jo, and In the Footsteps are clearly among the very best we’ve met. We’re highly appreciative and strongly recommend using them!

We did the 3 day trip from Hereford to Symonds Yat. Stuart and the team were incredibly helpful and accommodating. We arrived by public transport and Stuart dropped off our canoe the night before we started to help accommodate this. We had the best time. Instructions and advice were clear and easy to follow. Great advice about the best campsites and lunch spots. The price was incredibly reasonable for all the support and equipment we were given. Wye Canoes gave us all the information and then let us get on our way but we always knew where to get help if we were to need it. I would love to do another trip with Wye Canoes. Great people. Great equipment and their knowledge and support was invaluable! Special shout out to Leo who went well out of his way to help us get back to Hereford in time for our train when the public transport was limited due to bank holiday weekend! Couldn’t have asked for a better trip! We’ve definitely caught the canoeing bug!
Stuart couldn’t have been more accommodating! He managed to fit us in at short notice for a half-day trip with our dog, which we really appreciated. The booking process was super easy, and communication ahead of our visit was excellent. The price was great—about £15 cheaper than other places offering the same trip in Symonds Yat East. The whole experience felt very relaxed and friendly. Unlike other companies that are strict about return times, Stuart simply encouraged us to enjoy ourselves and take our time, which really took the pressure off. (That said, we were still back in plenty of time!) All in all, a fantastic experience. We’ll definitely be booking again on our next trip. Thanks so much!
Had some unavoidable issues at the start, caused by external events and Wye Canoes were so understanding and accommodating. Staff are super friendly and know the river well. Safety is on point and instructions are clear, you'll be safe if you pay attention and listen. The equipment is great. I went with my 10 year old son and we had a blast he started off worried about the canoe rocking by the time we finished he was standing up gondola style. Absolutely brilliant day out. Water quality on the Wye is not ideal however.
Great people. They allow bookings on the day if there is availability. I tried other companies but they did not have the on the day booking option. The half a day canoeing (£70) was amazing. Very good service and instructions. My 6 years old enjoyed it very much. We stopped along the shore a few times where it was allowed. These breaks made the journey. Safety equipment, barrel to keep your staff dry, helmet for kids were provided. When you book you get an email about what to expect, what to wear and bring. First, after getting the kit, they took as to the point where we had to get ashore. Then they drove everyone up to the starting point. And let the journey began.
We hired two canoes for a family paddleabout and the dog joined in too. You get everything you need and even get dry barrels to store your things in. The Wye Canoe team couldn't be more helpful. They got us on the water quickly and made the experience fun and relaxed. Really reasonable prices, and would love to come back to do a longer trip.
Fantastic day out! Great staff friendly and helpful. Lots of local knowledge too, guide you the right direction! Great way to experience the river wye, will be back again! Parking easy, 1st machine coins, furthest car park had hard reader.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our half day trip in a Canadian canoe. The whole experience felt very relaxed. The briefing was enough to make us feel safe without being boring or wasting loads of time. The instructions were clear, the views were great and I was excited to see a kingfisher. We'd like to do it again.
What an amazing experience, canoeing the river Wye. This is second time I have done this trip ,but the first time with Wye Canoes and they are by far the best. We will see you next year 💙🫶❤️

Great little family hotel, rooms were lovely, hotel was cute and the staff were all really friendly. Nice location, truly thankful to Steve the owner (especially as they accommodated us last minute after the premier inn cancelled us on the day of the Oasis gig). I would definitely stay there again, if ever in the area. Thanks for a lovely breakfast too Steve, Sandra, Paul, Lisa, Chris (Warrington)
We stayed one night on a tour and thought this hotel was a real find. The room was modern light and airy, the bed very comfortable and great water pressure in the shower. Simple things like sockets in the right places, a good hairdrier and a mirror at the dressing table. The owners were very welcoming and the location close enough to Ross for a trip out. Will definitely go back, would recommend.
Staying here really was the making of our few days break. We were warmly welcomed to the hotel and found our room to be comfortable ensuring a good night's sleep. The breakfast was truly super and cheerfully served. Next time we would certainly choose to dine here in the evenings having overheard praise from other guests who had enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for the amazing hospitality and kindness you showed me on my recent stay. I really think that the pint of ice cubes saved me :) The room was lovely clean and spacious, your service was perfect and I'm only sorry that my visit was fleeting. Would recommend this wonderful hotel to anyone. Thank you, Rob
A good & friendly run hotel. Well situated. Excellent value for money & very pleasant staff. Good car parking & easy booking. We couldn't be any happier with our stay. So it gets a 5* from us.
Thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality that’s give to me from the very first stay and subsequent stays. Friendly, warm and accommodating would be 3 words that sum up the castle lodge hotel. Highly recommended
Great hotel. Lovely hosts. Very clean. Spot on breakfast.
Great food, lovely people, comfortable room, good quality toilet paper. Highly recommend 🤗

Beautiful old church, visible for miles around. Interesting and fine looking interior, plus the churchyard makes for a very nice walk. The Prospect offers a fabulous view of the River Wye and beyond.
Beautiful church, very welcoming atmosphere. The children enjoyed the hedgehog Hunt and a lovely person gave them a badge for completing it. Down the right hand side of the church is a lovely viewpoint too
Absolutely beautiful church. As we went in a lovely lady greeted us and pointed out things of interest. That's a nice touch. Lovely graveyard too, peaceful and good for reflection.
Enjoyed a look around whilst visiting the town with my girlfriend.
Excellent community resource for concerts etc as well as vibrant faith community
A Beautiful Church in a scenic town, a church with history and beautifully designed with some modern facilities added. Friendly people and a wonderful experience.
The spire may be thin and pointy but it can be seen from a long way off.
Very warm & welcoming with refreshments after the 9.30am Sunday Service

We had a great round of mini golf with some friends while on holiday. A very enjoyable course, everything was in good condition, and the price was very reasonable. We went to the on-site cafe afterwards, which had a nice selection of drinks, cakes, and ice creams. Overall, recommended. 👍
Just don’t go! Parking Eye scam in operation. Pay and display machine was out of order on the day we visited. Went to the reception desk and told them. They said not to worry as it was just to stop people who use the car park without using the facilities. We bought tickets to the crazy golf and played. Ever since that day we have been hounded by Parking Eye (the parking bloodhounds for the venue) for an unpaid ticket. We have sent them evidence (photos of the out of order machine along with proof of payment for tickets to the venue) more times than I can count. They just ignore it and keep hounding you. It is becoming quite distressing. I really wish we had never visited.
DIsability unfriendly, disappointing and ridiculous. Tried to visit with my daughter who has severe learning difficulties only to be told I would have to pay to accompany her around the course. His reasoning was that it would be unsafe for me to enter with her (but by charging me this somehow solved that problem, which I don't understand). The fact that she wouldn't be able to understand the rules on her own, that she wouldn't be able to understand turn taking, that she may unintentionally hurt someone with the club/ball, interrupt other peoples games, and ultimately get very distressed as she needs to be accompanied by an adult at all times. So beware of this if you intend to go with anyone who has a disability.
Do not go Scam Park A few years ago I received a parking fine, even though i paid for parking. Since then I have had almost daily bullying phone calls off a debt collection agency. They are now threatening court action against me, this needs to be sorted, and it is something you are quite obviously complicit with, or fobbing people off with a 'blind eye'. Whichever it is, I will be contacting the national press to find out why, after hundreds of customers have contacted them, they continue to allow this robbery to take place. Any denial on there part at this point is only made laughable by looking at trip advisor reviews about parking fines for this attraction. It is obvious that they would not be so idle and unhelpful, if they weren't making money out of THEIR customers mysery.
Experience on two occasions fairly awful sad to say. Mini-golf itself was OK, but poor and petty customer service. Plus you pay over the odds for parking.
Great little mini golf course wash to get around for all ages and disability 👌 Would definitely do it again if in the area again 😍🙈

Pub
Old world riverside pub offering cosy rooms & a lodge with dorms, as well as classic meals.
Slide 1 of 8
I came across this pub by l recommendation from another café that was closing when I called. I was traveling from Port Talbot and wanted somewhere for lunch about halfway to my destination. They suggested this place and I can absolutely see why! The pub itself has a very traditional feel, with friendly young staff who welcomed me right away (though they did look a little surprised when I asked for a table for one, as I was traveling for work). They seated me by a roaring fire, which was just perfect on a cold, windy, and wet day. While waiting for my meal, I could not help noticing the Sunday dinners coming out of the kitchen. They looked incredible, to the point where I almost regretted not ordering one. Instead, I had the “Doward” chicken burger, and it was outstanding. The chicken was tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly, while the chips were wonderfully crisp. The pub is in a beautiful setting by a river, which seems to make it a popular spot for hikers, cyclists, and runners. It was buzzing with activity when I arrived around 2 p.m. The crowd around the bar only added to the atmosphere. A couple of practical notes: parking is quite limited for the size of the building and the number of people it attracts. The road down to it is also very narrow, so I would not recommend trying to get there with a large caravan. On the plus side, it is both child friendly (with games to keep little ones entertained) and dog friendly, which makes it even more welcoming. Overall, a charming traditional pub in a lovely location, serving excellent food with a warm, lively atmosphere. I would definitely return.
Lovely location and lots of outside seating which was great given first nice day that week. As nice location by river we wanted to make the most of it. Had 2 x dogs with us but very disappointed to be told we had to eat indoors and then when someone else came out with their cultery etc it became apparent they were going to eat outside so left to find somewhere that catered to our needs and found an amazing alternative. Very disappointed
We had a really lovely and relaxing stay in Otters' Lodge and enjoyed food in the restaurant. Otters' Lodge is decorated beautifully, a great size for sharing and is well equipped, especially the kitchen (with generous coffee and biscuit supplies!) and clean. There are beautiful views of the river from all of the rooms. The restaurant menu has a great selection. We enjoyed a Sunday Roast, desserts and coffee, loved them all, especially the beetroot with the roast! They also sell delicious Kelsmor ice cream in tubs to take away.
My Wife and I visited the Ferry Inn Tuesday 30th sept for lunch. We were greeted and seated by the window overlooking the beautiful river Wye. We enjoyed a delicious lunch, I had Sausage and mash with Red wine with baby onions sauce, Whilst my wife enjoyed the Ploughmans lunch . All Locally sourced fresh products even down to the Gin and tonic water that my wife ordered . We cannot fault the Food it was fresh ,local and presented really well on the plate. As for the staff and waitress they were welcoming and friendly . we will be returning asap and fully recommend this lovely little jewel on the Wye. Thank you Paul & Suzanne
Great pub with superb views and food. Booking a pain as they asked for an app to be used so we phoned. We left early due to a noisy feral child but that’s not the pubs fault. Deserts were overpriced.
We did not stay in the rooms but ate here several times during our recent trip. This was the best place we ate at during our holiday. Lovely location and atmosphere, delicious food and friendly staff. The steak was exceptional. Special shout out to Chloe who served us multiple times and was so friendly and welcoming. We hope to be back!
Lovely pub in great location if staying in nearby house/cottage/cabin get away! Food was really good and reasonably priced, same goes for drinks. Staff were lovely and friendly, pub super cosy with darker nights and extension looking over the river lovely place to eat 😊
Haven't stayed as yet but am seriously considering for next year. This review is concerning your food. It was absolutely fabulous. Ist class. I had the Guinea Fowl. The sauce, accompanied by the cabbage & fondant potato was delicious. The last time I had this similar type of dish was in a Michelin Star restaurant & this was definitely of the same standard. Your hazelnut chocolate brownie was also gorgeous. I told our lovely waitress to complement your chef. Also mentioning that the other eateries across the way could learn a thing or two from you! We wish we had got to you sooner. My husband had the Ox Cheeks & said that was also fantastic. So thank you and my compliments to your great staff & your wonderful chef for making the end of our holiday great. I was very impressed. See you again next year. Best wishes Davina Blake MBE

A great afternoon trip and well worth the drive. Some amazing views coming into the town with ample parking outside of the pedestrian areas. A lovely walk along the river brings you to several waterside pubs and views of a brilliant residential castle. A great play area for children accompanied by wide open spaces for dog walkers and sportspeople, including a launching area for kyaks, make for a brilliant place to relax with the family. Very tame wildlife including brave swans and many swallows give the park the undeniable feel of being right in the middle of nature. Absolutely recommend spending a few hours here.
Lovely, terraced garden, very well maintained by a friendly bunch of volunteers. I have donated a few plants including a Chusan fan palm. The sensory garden at the bottom is a fantastic addition.
We had a pleasant stroll through the garden on our way to the riverside.
Quiet place with some benches. You will only hear the birds that live here in their own little world. A calming view of the nearby river and meadows.
3 benches in a beautiful little garden just by the roadside before steps down to the river Wye Tranquil, we sat there for ages looking at the views.
Beautiful walk along the river and no rubbish anywhere. One of the most beautiful places to visit ❤️💗❤️
A nice place near river wye. .. lot of Swans and ducks.. dog walking area..
The Thomas Blake Garden very relaxing and enjoyable with ducks swans and the wildlife, a place to sit and watch time go buy.

Interesting place to visit with much to offer, from the historic covered market to the River Wye. It has places to eat and drink plus a lot of history including that of John Kyrle prominent on lots of buildings.
We happened upon this on a Sunday trip and enjoyed mooching around at the quality and reasonably priced local crafts from a range of artists and bought a number of small pieces for a good price compared to other similar galleries. Would recommend!
Very picturesque town, first visit for me.
Fantastic little market town, unfortunately they keep changing the days when they've had markets and when they intend to have markets, but don't tell anyone about the changes, must try harder Ross on Wye!!!
Fabulous place. See the photos.
Wonderful place. Shops, cafes, river walks . A place of beauty
Fantastic find on our day trip to Ross. Great range of art and craft, accommodating a wide variety of materials and styles, including painting, bowls, mobiles and jewellery. Superb service and effort made to promote local work. Have taken a way a few souvenir gifts!
Beautiful city....If you like handmade carpet from Afghanistan you can find with good price....Last year I bought pair handmade carpet I enjoy it...I am from Iran but I loved Afghanistan people.

Nice place to visit for an hour. Caves are pretty cool. Kids loved it. Nice woods and you can Loop from the car park, down to the caves, then back up to the road and to the car park. It's free to go and park.
One of the attractions on a circular walk we did in the Wye Valley. The two caves are surprisingly large with little tunnels off each. They don't go far, but it was fun investigating. King Arthur must have been out as it was empty when we visited.
Really enjoyable walk. Try to keep to the paths unlike what I did and follow a compass but enjoyable all the same.
Short walk from the tiny car park but a couple of steep sections. Not a particularly large or interesting cave though.
not the easiest to find, but not extremely difficult. very cute little cave. the stone swirl was lovely. nice spot for a brew :)
Lovely little walk in an amazing spot. My kids enjoyed the cave immensely and spent quite some time running around it and playing throughout. Have returned since. Nice spot for a break and some food. Such a beautiful spot for chilling out
Easy to access and a good addition to a day out, doesn't take much of your day so it can be fitted between stops
Lovely different trails / walks to go on through the woods, by the river over the river by the footbridge and more woodland. Free parking. No toilets unless go the cafe at the bottom which is open 11 onwards. Times may vary. Campsite at the bottom. Free parking. Narrow track to get there

What a beautiful location.. loads of space, massive size pitches, plenty of hot water from the shower.. shower block very clean.. but remember to bring your own loo roll.. two fantastic pubs within walking distance from the camp site..and plenty to explore... we had a fantastic time with friends... and definitely will be returning in the near future.. thank you for a memorable weekend.. be back soon..
Didn't stay here but walked through on the public path. Signs from biblin's illegally giving orders to people on the public path - such as 'keep your dog on a lead". Clearly biblin's don't want you on their 'private property' as signs every state, but don't want to fence of their campsites so instead they improperly demand that people on a public path follow their rules because god-forbid, your dog might step on their patch of grass if he wasn't on a leash. Also, biblin's refuse to have anything to do with the rope bridge in terms of looking after it but their camp wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the rope bridge. Just a horrible money-grubbing company.
Incredible location! Right next to some amazing walks, and the river is so close, falling asleep to the sound of running water is great. We even ran into 5 deer in the night when going to the toilet! Really nice warm welcome from the warden too! Only note for improvement would be that it would've been nice to be able to recycle our food waste on site.
Nice little campsite. Sadly due to it being so busy we had to stay quite far away from the rest of the facilities, they were about 15 min walk or 5 min drive. The trek to the facilities was exhaust but nothing could be done due to the business. We had a nice campfire though and luckily the fire drawn away all the bugs since the campsite had a slight bug problem. the trip was pretty enjoyable though so a good review from me!
This is a Youth campsite operated by the WCF (Woodcraft Folk). It's in the Wye valley and is a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. There isn't any WiFi or phone signal here except in emergencies from the wardens cabin. These guys are very friendly and helpful. There is a large lodge type building called The Burrow in which parties of people such as scouts can stay with some amenities such as toilets and showers with plenty of bunks, but you'll have to provide sleeping bags, food etc. There was a roof which can be opened up during hotter summer nights but I don't know if it's still operable. There is plenty of walking and exploring to be done and if you're lucky could find King Arthur's cave. A fabulous way to unwind and reset yourself.
Nice campsite for young people with the facilities needed to have a nice stay. The pitches are all alongside the lovely river which is open for camping or other water activities. To reach the site you either approach along a track from the top of one side of the valley and come straight down onto the site or you take one on the other side of the valley and proceed to take a wooden footbridge over the river (feels daunting but is safe for 6 people at a time). This bridge is also used to cross the river for exploring. It is useful to know that there is no mobile connectivity at all in the valley, but you might be able to get some away from the site
Great place for youths! Perfect for friends, perfect for families, it's a shame dogs aren't allowed, but the area, scenery, services, and location pays off. The site has a toilet block, seating areas, and fire place areas, and they provide wood to campers who pay for the service which is handy! Being located along the river Wye, there is a bridge that crosses over to the other side, where you can take a route to Symonds Yat, where you can go up the valley to the rock, overviewing the region. Because of its geographic region, you can see wild animals around the site, from deers, ducks, and badgers! The prices are reasonable too, ended up paying around 200 for a group of 12 for three nights, and the warden was nice!
A wonderful venue away from the rigours of day to day life. Very little mobile signal is a massive plus with groups! Almost all pitches have access to the river and the site is away from all roads, lights and noise. The site has two routes to Symonds Yay, one over the chain bridge and the other via the foot ferry. Both are great and make a wonderful circuit. When here try the caving and kayaking. The only negative are the small number of toilets but they are well looked after.
