Easy drive up. GREAT views at SUNSET (less at the at the very top, but at the parking area on your way up that overlooks to the west- you can watch the sun set into the ocean. Also- you need to stop at the cat colony
Very beautiful mountain, easy to approach
historica monuments, lovely view, walking trails
Wonderfull place. Nature surround you here. There are beautifull, incredible, exotic plants and trees. You can meet roe deers, parrots (in cage). Very nice place, where air is fresh. Great panorama view on Angra do Heroismo. Here you can relax and forget about everydayness. Get by foot or car if you don't like walking uphill. Free entrance.
Very nice place to visit. Lovely walks, gorgeous views. A must see for sure!
MUST DO Excellent views of Angra do Heroísmo. I recommend hiking, since it is not difficult and beautiful. On the way you can see the castle of Sao Jorge and lots of animals.
Great view of Angra. Great place to have a picnic with playground for children.
Beautiful views of the ocean, Angra, and the military fortress. Accessible by car or foot.

A beautiful garden in winter. Entry was free, and the park was well maintained. The garden is adjacent to the Museum of Angra, making for a perfect afternoon. January 9, 2025 C & J
This is a gorgeous public garden. Well marked plants and trees. Nicely landscaped and well maintained. Very clean. It’s a relaxing place to meander or sit. You may also walk all the way up the winding paths until you reach the top overlook area with the orange monument. It’s a beautiful view of the city and of Monte Brasil. It’s free to enter and appropriate for all ages. There are some areas that are accessible. Other areas have steep stairs. My favorite part was the little river with steps so you can walk over the running water.
Well conserved and beatifull garden. Best place to chill and have a pause from the visit to Angra streets.
Great place in Angra to explore or just relax. My wife likes to get a cup of ice cream just outside the garden and enjoy it inside. I like to get popcorn and feed the birds.
A really lovely and quite large public garden. Lots of colourful and very variable flowers, trees, bushes - the things to see in a garden. You can also see some birdlife in the trees and hear frogs croaking (and see them with a bit of luck). The garden is quite large, so you can spend some hours here just walking around and enjoying the plants. You can also climb up the highest part of the hill where the first fort in town once stood.
A very nicely landscaped public park, with lots of different plants, a fountain, ponds, a garden pavilion... relaxing
As this island isn't boring enough, now you cant even feed the pigeons. Why do you want a park full of trees if you dont like birds. The fish is on horrible condition, the water is disgusting. I cant even look at it. There is multiple ways to take care of a pound and seems like none is being used
A beautiful garden to visit, right beside the museum. Multiple trees and plants, distributed over several layers, and an enormous space to take advantage and relax. It gives you the chance of taking gorgeous pictures and, if you go up to the top, you will also reach a viewpoint that provided breathtaking views over the city and Monte Brasil.

Terrific museum covering the history of Angra, Terceira, and the Azores. For a modest entry fee of 1 € you will need several hours to work your way through all the galleries and installations in this former convent turned museum. On any day, but especially perhaps a rainy one, MAH is worth a visit. The museum has made good efforts to improve accessibility for wheelchairs and strollers with ramps and an elevator. Thoroughly enjoyed! January 9, 2025 C & J
Great place to learn about the extensive history of Terceira and the Azores. Quite a lot to see so allow plenty of time. The self guided web based tour that was provided via QR Code was informative and helpful. Totally worth the cost of admission and dedication of an afternoon of one's time.
A wonderful place to visit! Do not let the outside appearance deceive you. Inside you will find many rooms containing historical exhibits. This museum is well organized and provides a chronological, professional display of Portuguese history. There is also a beautiful church at this wheelchair accessible location. Enjoy.
The museum has an impressive collection of art and artifacts, explaining both the history of Angra do Heroismo, as well as Terceira — from the discovery of the islands until today. The Church-Monastery complex is particularly impressive.
Very beautiful and historic museum. Contains lots of knowledge and history from various periods of time centered around the history of the açores, more specificly ilha terceira. It is very accessible for disabled people and cheap to visit only 2€ per person at most.
Fascinating museum inside a beautiful historic monument (originally a monastery and church), with very knowledgeable and helpful staff, both at the reception and inside the museum. The museum includes Terceira Island historic items and lovely Azorean artwork.
Absolutely fantastic museum in a remarkable building, the old St. Sebastian Convent. The church is historic and quite possibly one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. The detail in the artwork is breathtaking. The museum does feature English translations. The exhibits take the visitor from the early days of the island to present day. For only 2€, this is a must do!!!
Kids friendly introduction: This museum is inside an old convent from the 1600s, where monks once lived! Today, it’s full of cool stuff that tells the story of Terceira – from pirate attacks and earthquakes to fancy old clothes, ships, and religious art. The building itself is a mix of baroque and simple Azorean style – solid, white walls with calm cloisters (peaceful garden courtyards) that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. A great place to explore the island’s wild and heroic history!

beautiful architecture. Ancient and historical. It seems that even Pope John Paul II was here. In general, the place is mysterious, beckons with its beauty. The inside is very beautiful and enchanting. Good acoustics. I like it.
Free entrance Great place 💗
The biggest church in the Azores! Built in the late 16th century. It became the island’s main cathedral and has survived earthquakes, a fire, and even a royal visit or two. With its two tall towers, grand arches, and peaceful inside full of stone columns and golden altars, it’s a mix of Mannerist and Baroque styles with a significant Spanish influence. Downstairs, there’s a treasure-filled sacristy with old paintings and silver. And try to find a reading desk made of tropical woods, it is decorated with inlay made of whale bones!
Beautiful cathedral in the heart of angra. The cathedral offer beautiful architecture and artwork within
Historic church that is very well kept with lots of information inside.
⛪️ The Sé Catedral de Angra, also known as the Cattedrale di Angra do Heroísmo, is a stunning Catholic cathedral located in the heart of Angra do Heroísmo, a historic city on the island of Terceira, Azores, Portugal. As I walked towards the cathedral, I was struck by its imposing presence and beautiful architecture. 🏛️ The exterior of the cathedral is a mix of Gothic and Manueline styles, with intricate stone carvings and ornate decorations. The façade is adorned with statues of saints and biblical figures, adding to its grandeur. I was particularly drawn to the beautiful rose window above the main entrance, which filters in a kaleidoscope of colors and lights. ✝️ As I stepped inside, I was enveloped in a sense of tranquility and peace. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior, with soaring vaulted ceilings, ornate altarpieces, and stunning stained-glass windows. I spent a few moments in quiet contemplation, taking in the beauty and history of this sacred space. 🕊️ What struck me most about the Sé Catedral de Angra was its sense of history and significance. Built in the 16th century, it has played a vital role in the spiritual and cultural life of the island for centuries. As I wandered through the cathedral, I couldn't help but feel a deep connection to the people who have worshiped here over the years. 💭 As I left the cathedral, I felt grateful for the experience. The Sé Catedral de Angra is a true treasure of the Azores, and a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, or spirituality. A must place to visit in Angra do Heroismo. The views are spectacular. Walk thru the Jardim Duque da Terceira to gain beautiful access to this free site. Enjoy
Kids friendly review: This tall stone tower was built to thank King Pedro IV, who helped the people of Terceira fight for freedom during a big war in the 1800s (the Liberal Wars). He supported the side that wanted a fairer, freer government, and even sent help from here! The monument looks like a fancy mini obelisk (a tall, pointy tower) in neoclassical style – that means it was made to look strong, elegant, and a bit like ancient Roman monuments. You can climb up to see amazing views over Angra, just like the king might’ve done!
A giant yellow & white monument for Dom Pedro IV (King of Portugal in 1826) aka Pedro I of Brazil aka "the Liberator" aka "the Soldier King". If you are able, follow the path/steps up from the Duke of Terceira Garden (Jardim Duque da Terceira) and enjoy spectacular views along the way. The top is also accessible by car and bus.
Beautiful viewpoint of Angra from this monument. It’s about a 15 minute walk accessible through the gardens.
liked the design, and the vibe.
Amazing view over the city and of Monte Brasil. If walking up from the botanical garden, lots of steps.
The monument is interesting, especially the use of stones from a former structure. What makes this place really special are the views of the city! This viewing point is amazing!!

Well kept and nicely restored historic building of City Council
Lovely building with very friendly staff and some small things to share on the history and administration of Angra do Heroismo. The topographic map of Terceira in the staircase was lovely
The service in this place is outstanding. The person behind the table was extremely friendly and helpful. Assisted me greatly and made me feel very welcome. Thumbs up and a big thank you!
Boycott a place where they torture animals for sport . 2017 no need for such cruelty animals suffered enough at the hands of them sick individuals . Bullfighting it's cruel heartless evil . Wonderful marching bands at the Town Hall

Excellent experience, guide was fantastic and explained everything very well. Tour takes about half an hour but provides a wealth of knowledge about not only the palace but Terceira island and the Azores. Highly recommend for those that are interested in the history of these fantastic islands.
It’s a nice place to visit, we paid 3 euro for guided tour vs 2 euro for non guided tour. Very cheap, tour guide was knowledgeable, spoke good English, felt a bit rushed though. Overall worth a visit. Garden is beautiful.
The official residence of the president of the Azores can be visited for a very low fee of just 2 euros, or 3 euros if you want a guide (!!!). You get some insight on the history of the islands. The guide we had was extremely friendly and helpful.
Really nice guided tour, we learned a lot about the history of Azores and Tercirea. A must do during your visit for 3e/pp
Really interesting insight into the history of Terceira and The Azores. I highly recommend the guided tour. If you are visiting Angra do Heroismo; this is a must see.
Definitely take this (inexpensive (3 Euro) tour (the only way to see inside this historic (and current) seat of government. The tour of this 16th century residence, school, Chapel and offices deftly captures the somewhat twisted history of Terceira and the Azores - which itself mirrors the larger machinations of the Spanish and Portuguese empires. It's a great grounding for the more human and down to earth parts of the history you'll learn during your visit to this wonderful city. Don't skip the gardens or Chapel! Sorry, but because the Palace is still used for the administration of the Azores, picture-taking is restricted to the modem exhibit room and the chapel.
Very interesting history about the palace. Our guide was amazing.
They say last visit at 16 45, but at 16 30 it was already closed to our dismay 🙄

Breathtaking views and a fun drive to the top! Cannot say enough how beautiful this view was. It's very worth the drive!
This place has such amazing views of the island. The drive is the most challenging part of the excursion. Make sure to visit on a sunny day.
We took a Bolt to go up the mountain and we went back walking! It’s a long walk but beautiful! But don’t worry, there are plenty of people that drive up and down on their own cars. It’s not very busy when we were there, so don’t be silly and go to places that you are not allowed. It’s a beautiful view! Highly recommend
Great panoramic view of Teceria, on a clear day. Summit was 8 degrees cooler than the coast, making for a refreshing breeze of clean air. Gets crowded and parking is limited.
Great views. Highest point on the island but make sure to pay attention to the cloud cover if you want to see anything once you get to the top. Doesn't cost anything to visit just need to get to the top. The road to the top is very nice with a mixture of asphalt and cobble roads surrounded by stunning views, trees and plant life.
Definitely worth the drive and short walk. It’s a good view from the island’s highest point. It’s easy to see how the top is frequently in the clouds, so be sure to go on a clear day.
Often surrounded by clouds so you have to time your visit carefully. The road to the top is nicely paved so not too hard to reach. There's nothing much at the top except walk around and hopefully be able to see some views.
Amazing drive to the top and the views! We were lucky to be there when it was clear and then watch the clouds roll in. Highly recommend!

Beautiful, majestic blue color church.Near statuette Vasco da Gama and beach. Ticket 2eur. Worst visit
Entrance 2€ Pretty impressive place
Kids friendly introduction: This big blue-and-white church sits right by the harbor and looks like it’s watching over the sea! It was built in the 18th century as part of a hospital and charity center where people helped the sick and the poor – that’s why it’s called Misericórdia (which means “mercy”). It has a beautiful baroque front with twin towers and fancy decorations, showing the style of the time. Sailors and travelers used to stop here to pray for safe journeys. It’s not just a church – it’s a piece of Angra’s heart, where faith and kindness met history.
Unable to go inside but beautiful blue church. Across the street is a statue of Vasco de Gama, first European and Portuguese explorer to reach India by sea.
Beautiful and majestic Catholic Church. Neat, majestic and ancient. Unfortunately, I have not been inside, but I think it is very beautiful there.
Half of the exhibits were closed to the public (catacombs, upper floors...) It is smaller than you may think. I recommend going to the Angra Museum instead, which hides a beautiful chapel and cloister.
You have to pay to enter but it is for a good cause and just a Euro. In exchange the guide tells you a lot about the history of the place and some very interesting facts about the island.
Very interesting and beautiful church with an extended history. Has survived see earthquakes and is presently being restored again. Wonderful architecture and mission.

(Translated by Google) The Impérios are one of the oldest and most beautiful traditions in the Azores. You will find them on all the islands of the Azores archipelago. Here I show you the beautiful Império de São Sebastião, which is next to the church of the same name and is worth visiting for its historical value in the city. This is an old Catholic tradition that pays homage to the Divine Holy Spirit. They are very well looked after by the inhabitants of all the neighborhoods located there. They are places of worship where many traditions are remembered and greatly respected by the people of the region. They are responsible for receiving donations and distributing them to those most in need. The Impérios are not usually very large buildings, but they stand out for their beauty, which is usually reflected in the multiple colors used in their painting. They all have an altar, always decorated with many white lace cloths made by the hands of the women of the region. The altar also always has many fresh and natural flowers. Had a great time. Seating very tight for people who are 6ft tall. I recommend getting a seat cushion. Parking is pretty good recommend going early to get a spot closer to arena. If full parking on streets duable but tight. Leaving wasn't to bad.
We came here during Carnival so this wasn't your typical bullfight. The bulls were not injured and the matadors were highschool students. A nice local experience.
Beautiful facility for bullfighting and non-bullfighting lovers. Excellent visibility in any place during the events Clean environment
incredible show - skilled Cavaliers and teams, they don't kill the wild bull- very short spikes into thick hide to anger the beast into a show of furry and skilled evasion - hundreds of years of culture to be appreciated!
Seating is horrible, you are packed in like sardines, people behind you knees you in the back the entire time, extremely uncomfortable. Don't care how the bulls are being stabbed multiple times. The rest of the event was good. I want go back
Live a local tradition. Visit if you can.
Beautiful pageantry and cultural experience. While they don't actually kill the bulls, I guess what I discovered about my self is that I'm not the least bit entertained watching animals getting stabbed by spears for entertainment. I left halfway through the event. (Which is no small feat in itself due to the packed seating)

Beautiful hotel united into this amazing historic structure. Location is AMAZING! Amenities appear to be spectacular although we only toured the exterior on our visit. Ocean views and historic quiet location make this place a unique and fantastic destination.
What a beautiful location. An old fort converted to a hotel with amazing ocean views.
Wonderful place to stay. Unique, great location, easy parking, nice staff. A little trouble with the hot water in the bath/shower. Would stay there again.
The only good part of this hotel is location and good breakfast. We are here for our 35th wedding anniversary. We were put in the old section with no view, old twin beds, and ants!! Ants all over our personal bathroom belongings when we came back at the end of the day! They knew there was a problem because we saw ant traps in the room. We arrived at 8 am and had to wait until 3 pm. Others were checked in. When I saw our room I asked for a better room. They said they had no rooms available. At 6 pm, two youg ladies checked in and were given a room in the new section. I was at the desk when they checked in and asked why I wasn't offered that room. They just said I wouldn't want that room, it was smaller. I told them I should have been given that choice since I was there 10 hrs before them. They treated us like 2nd class citizens. Would not stay here again. I am an Airbnb host, and I work very hard for my 5 star reviews. I have a 4.95 rating and am a Superhost. This hotel does not care about their average guest or it's ratings.
An old fort that is nowadays a hotel. You can enter the fort during opening hours. Lovely views!
Exceptional stay! In February 2024 I stayed here with a group of 16 students from my high school in Rome. The location is extremely unique and it's a short walk from most sights in Angra. Breakfast and dinner were excellent (they catered for me as a vegan guest) and the swimming pool and views were great. The staff was very kind and understanding. Strongly recommended!
We stayed here two nights and it was great. Plenty of parking, excellent views of the bay and Mount Brasil. The room was comfortable and spacious, the bed was comfy and it was cool to stay in this modern area of the fortress. The fort itself is a nice quick walk to again get great views of the bay and the Atlantic beyond. I would definitely stay here again! A bit of a walk into the city, but not bad.
An old colonial fort built on a rocky hill, that protects the east side of Angra bay. Inside they built a hotel but I found the entrance of the fort free. It was worth the visit, mainly for the views from it.

An excellent experience to be confronted by the mountain, the vulcans and the sea...
Amazing coastal viewpoint with volcanic history! Pico Matias Simão is a scenic volcanic cone on Terceira’s north coast, formed by strombolian eruptions. From the top (153 m), you get breathtaking views of the Atlantic and even the island of Graciosa on clear days. It’s part of the Azores Geopark and a great example of a spatter cone, with unique lava formations shaped by wind and sea. You’ll also find a native forest at the summit and may spot Cory’s shearwaters nesting in the cliffs. There’s a historic cross (Cruzeiro) built in 1940, and the spot was once used for whale watching. A must-stop for nature lovers and geology fans!
50m climb. Smells very nice of the local vegetation. Decent view from the top
Beautiful viewpoint. A nice hike up. You can visit the village of Altares, see the Imperio, have a nice meal (alcatra) in the restaurant and then walk up to this viewpoint :)
Gorgeous views. A bit of a hike but the steps make it easier.
Even on a rainy day, the view here is beautiful, quite different from viewpoints ont the top of the island. Nice spot to check out if you’re in the area.
A bit climbed but worth it! Amazing view!
You have to walk up. The views are nice
