Slide 1 of 8
The starting point for the local Christmas Market if arriving from the Esslingen Neckar Train Station on day trip from Stuttgart. Stalls here are beautifully setup with Christmas theme with charming building framing the market.
Esslingen Market Square is surrounded by stunning half-timbered houses and historic buildings, it offers a perfect blend of medieval charm and modern vibrancy. The market square is home to cozy cafés, local shops, and seasonal events that bring the town to life.
A very nice walk thru and old city any time of year. We went on a warm October day and had a good time. Lots of cafes, shops, and bakeries with good coffee and food.
Beautiful town. We were lucky to be there for the summer festival.
If there’s one place that captures the soul of Esslingen, it’s the Marktplatz — a broad, picture-perfect square framed by half-timbered houses, each one looking like it belongs on the cover of a fairytale book. The colors, the angles, the rooftops — everything here feels timeless. On a Sunday, though, the vibe completely changes. The usually buzzing square slows down into something beautifully calm and reflective. Most of the shops are closed, and you can finally hear the fountain trickling and the bells from the nearby Frauenkirche echoing through the air. Locals stroll quietly, couples sit on benches with coffee to-go, and the café terraces — the few that open on Sundays — become little pockets of lazy contentment. Without the weekday rush, you start noticing the details — the ornate carvings on the old guild houses, the contrast between pastel facades and the red roofs, and the way the square gently slopes toward the church. If you stand in the middle and spin slowly, you’ll see centuries of history in one 360° view — it’s that kind of place. And when the sun’s out, the light hits the buildings just right, creating this warm, honey-colored glow that’s pure cinematic gold. Photographers love it, and honestly, it’s hard to take a bad shot here.
i loved the medieval theme Christmas Market! with all the detailed decorations, people wear beautiful medieval costumes. making you feel you are back to the past. my very first Christmas Market experience, it really doesn't disappoint me. it was eye opening.
Stopped by for an afternoon during the recent Estival, Jazz and Weiss Beer in the sunshine. Knew nothing about the Estival before seeing the advertising at Tram stations in Stuttgart the night before. Hopefully visit again for the Christmas market.
I was here for the Christmas Market and it îs a beautiful medieval market with very good vibe and food. The only suggestion is to go durring the day cause at night it is overcrowded and the lights are not worth it.Awesome place, much nicer than the Stuttgart one.

The view over the city is stunning. If you prefer, there’s also a bus that can take you up, but climbing the steps makes the experience much more special. A great spot to explore, relax, and take beautiful photo..☺️
Lovely old castle and worth a visit for the views alone! Google maps sends you the ' stairs ' way! This is a steep climb up about 300 stairs? ( We meant to go back for a picture of them but forgot! ) Otherwise you can go up the roads to it. Like I said the views are spectacular and it's free! There's a restaurant up there too but I'm guessing you might need to book?
Great view of Esslingen. As people have mentioned, it requires a great deal of steps to clib. I recommend taking the bus 110 from the station up to the castle. After experiencing the wonderful view, you can take the stairs back down into the town.
Great view of the city. Beatiful structure and gardens. A little over 300 steps to get up there, totally worth the climb. I wish it was possible to access inside the tower.
Beautiful setting for photos and views above Esslingen. The stairs are tough but make for a good workout before heading to the farmers market in town. One note, it doesn't appear you can actually go inside the main tower
part of the old fortification from 1314. you can only go up the stairs and enjoy the view from top. big green yard and a beergarden. perfect for events and ceremonies.
Calm place . We went during sunset and it’s mind blowing
A very nice walk from the old town all the way up. Stairs and paved path. Beautiful views from the top part all over Esslingen. The stairs are rather easy to walk but you might need to rest in a while. Overall is highly recommend to go to the top and enjoy this view.

medieval gothic church. forms the main sightseeing of the town and can be spotted from every corner.
This is nice church located on the south side of Marktplatz that I enjoyed seeing during a recent visit to Esslingen. Historically, it seems there have been church buildings at this site since the 8th century. However, what you see today is a Romanesque and Gothic building constructed between 1220-1315. The exterior is architecturally attractive, highlighted by twin towers with a connecting bridge. The interior is modest with a centre nave and side aisles. The choir, rod screen, main altarpiece and stained glass windows are quite decorative and nice to see. There is an impressive organ in back as well.
Stadtkirche St. Dionys was founded in the 8th century, with the current structure built in the 13th century primarily in the Gothic style. Its asymmetric twin towers are connected by a bridge, added to stabilize the leaning southern tower. The interior is austere, with rib‑vaulted ceilings and octagonal sandstone piers featuring richly carved capitals depicting figures such as dragons and Adam and Eve. Furnishings include a late Gothic choir screen (lettner) from 1486, a 1604 altarpiece by Peter Riedlinger, a 1609 Renaissance pulpit, and one of Württemberg’s largest organs, from the Late Baroque.
A very beautiful church. Now there is an organ hall. It is said to be one of the best organs in southern Germany. I heard quite a bit. The wedding began in the temple and we only looked a little at the interior. I hope to come here again.
We actually visited Stadtkirche St. Dionys twice — that’s how much this place pulls you in. The first time was a Sunday morning, and the doors were open but a mass was in session, so we just stood quietly near the entrance. The sound of the choir and the organ filled the space, echoing through the ancient stone arches — it gave us chills. It felt reverent, intimate, and deeply rooted in the rhythm of local life. When we came back later that afternoon, the church was empty, and that’s when you really start to see its character. Inside, St. Dionys is breathtaking — tall Gothic columns rising like a forest of stone, stained-glass windows glowing in shades of deep red, blue, and gold, and shafts of sunlight cutting across the pews. The whole place feels serene but not cold — there’s warmth in the worn wooden benches, in the faint scent of candle wax, and in the quiet footsteps that seem to echo softly no matter where you walk. Look up, and the ceiling is a masterpiece — intricate ribbed vaulting that draws your eye toward the altar. The altar area itself is simple yet elegant, framed by soaring arches and illuminated by colored light filtering through the glass. There’s also a beautiful crypt below, where you can sense the age of the structure — parts of the foundation date back nearly a thousand years.
Esslingen am Neckar: Easily the most beautiful town closest to stuttgart! Easiest thing is to leave the car in one of the many underground parkings (1h = 1.50€) The two main gothic/medieval churches are beautiful, the old town and the main square are equally pretty with the typical traditional houses/buildings loads of places to eat and drink and the sunset views from the castle are stunning.
What a wonderful site. If you are into churches, you'll enjoy this.

It doesn't matter whether it's winter or summer; this place offers an outstanding view.
Good for a quick and small hike and some fresh air
Spectacular location. Nice uphill hike through the forest. Most of the "castle" is actually a relatively modern structure built on the ruins of an older site. Restaurant has a very limited menu of mostly traditional Swabian dishes. The kiosk - where the woman serving was curt and unfriendly - has bottled beer, sausages and chips, and not much else. If you want better food, much better service and a more atmospheric castle experience, head for Burg Neuffen, just a few miles away.
A good hike up to the Teck Burg. Multiple parking bays along the way. Nice views from the top.
The view is amazing. There are tables in the yard and a cafeteria (fried potato, beer, ...). Tower fee is 1€. Route advice (up to 4 hours): park your car at Bissingen, take a walk to Teck, have your time, walk back down, dive into cold water in "Bissinger See" and go home.
Wonderful place to visit. It is very good choice for biking and hiking. You can bring your foods and stay there longer. Wc exists. Especially 🌇 sunset view and sunrise 🌅 views are wonderful. You may want to visit there on sunny 🌞 days to explore far places. On weekends it can be very crowded. But still worth it to visit
In winter it is a very fun climb and an even more fun descent. The view of the Swabian Sea at sunset is simply magical.
Very nice place to have a beer and some food after the hike from the parking lot. Sometimes there’s a band singing, many times you can spot gliders circling the castle. Totally recommend for a weekend walk.

A lovely town. I would definitely go back there again in summer or falls to have a Chance to try the wine there.
The Old Town Hall building at Rathausplatz in Esslingen is a charming building that was originally built 600 years ago. I really enjoyed seeing the well preserved building, including the medieval half-timbered exterior of the back side facing south. The front of Altes Rathaus facing the square was remodelled in Renaissance fashion by Heinrich Schickhardt (1586-89). The facade is very beautiful and adds much ambience to the square. The astronomical clock glockenspiel seemed to have been added around 1592. It places 4 or 5 times daily if you happen to be around and want to listen.
Beautiful place to go for the day. Stunnjng
Nice place, definitely worth visiting while in Stuttgart! It's a short ride, there is a good connection by train!
Definitely book tickets in advance or you will wait up to or more than an hour. Staff were friendly and cooperative
This pace was nice for setting cool architecture.
Beautiful place and city to Visit
The visit to Esslingen was a memorable one and I had the pleasure of visiting the surrounding areas of the Rathaus and also, attended a wedding in the historic building which was exceptional and I love the design of the entire building. It's got character and history as well as having an amazing view of the Esslingen burg. Would definitely recommend visiting the amazing location 😀😀👍

Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) in Esslingen am Neckar is a late Gothic hall church constructed in 1516, funded by the city’s bourgeoisie as a statement of civic autonomy. It is one of the earliest hall churches in southwest Germany, with all three naves built to equal height and a slender 72-meter tower that dominates the skyline. The richly sculpted south portal includes scenes of the Last Judgment and the life of Mary. The choir contains original 14th-century stained-glass windows, while the nave includes 20th-century glasswork.
There are several churches I recently visited in the historic centre of Esslingen including Frauenkirche located just north of Berlinerstrasse. It is worth making time to see if you are planning to visit Esslingen and enjoy seeing historic churches. Constructed between 1325-1516, Frauenkirche is considered the first Gothic Hall church in Southwest Germany. The exterior is attractive architecturally, highlighted by the detailed entrances and 72-metre tall ornamental spire. The interior features a traditional tall and narrow nave with vaulted ceiling along with two side aisles. The stained glass windows, pulpit and hanging cross in the choir and altar section of the church that are nice to see. However, on the whole, it is modestly decorated, likely much to do with the church converting to Protestantism during the Reformation Period.
The Frauenkirche - a jewel of late Gothic architecture with a great, unified appearance The Frauenkirche in Esslingen is considered one of the outstanding buildings of the southwest German late Gothic period and one of the oldest hall churches in Swabia. The delicate tower, playfully designed with artistic tracery, is visible from afar and draws the eye to the church, which is elevated at the foot of the Neckarhalde and opens the way to the Esslingen vineyards. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
gothic medieval church from 1325 and the most beautiful between the 3 churches which form together the landmark of the town. the highlight is the gothic high tower.
Even though we couldn’t step inside Frauenkirche, standing before it was already an experience on its own. The exterior alone tells centuries of stories — it’s one of those churches that make you stop mid-walk and just look up in quiet awe. Built in the late Gothic style, the church is incredibly detailed, almost lace-like in stone. The tall twin spires rise gracefully into the sky, their pointed pinnacles and delicate tracery giving the whole façade a sense of weightless beauty despite the solid sandstone structure. From the base, you can see how every arch, statue, and carved relief has aged beautifully — weathered by time but still elegant. The main portal is framed by ornate columns and sculpted figures that look almost alive in the afternoon light. The church’s pale stone exterior glows a soft golden hue when the sun hits it, making it one of the most photogenic spots in Esslingen, especially from the Marktplatz side where the view opens up perfectly. Even without entering, you feel the quiet majesty of the place. The sound of bells echoing through the old town, the intricate windows hinting at the treasures inside, and the serene square surrounding it all create a calm, almost cinematic scene.
Get a one-day travel card €6.80 or €6.38 online for 2 zones which will enable you to visit various places near Stuttgart town centra. Mercedes Benz Museum, which is 10 mins on foot from Neckerpark Station on line S1, is two stops away from Stuttgart Hbf (Central Train Station). After the museum visit, jump back onto the train for 4 further stops to Esslingen am. This medieval town is so beautiful with vineyards as backdrop. There is a weekly (Sat) market by the tourist information centre. There are so many churches worth visiting, Frauenkirche particularly. Instead of going back to Stuttgart Hbf, ride 2 stops (3 mins) on the S1 train toward Stuttgart Hbf / Herrenburg and get off at Obertürkheim for the Sepulchral Chapel on Württemberg Hill. I also used my one-day travel card to get to Stuttgart Library on the same day.
I had never even heard of this church and only went there because the roof looked so great from the outside. The stone carvings on the outer side of the church alone are worth a visit. Inside there is a high roof and lovely decorations. I am really glad that I went there and highly recommend it to everybody who visits Esslingen. For those who play Pokémon go, there is a gym and a Pokestop nearby.
I have two decorative plates that were handed down from my grandmother who lived in Esslingen. I am 86 now so I would guess the plates are quite old. One is of Frauenkirche Esslingen a N and the other Berg Esslingen showing walls of a castle or walls surrounding the city. I wonder if the church would be interested in having both. For no cost, of course. Jail16@aol.com

(Translated by Google) The "Thick Tower" is still a landmark today, overlooking a large part of today's Esslingen. At the same time a part of the castle and city fortifications, with its thick walls and cannons it was an important defense point that could defend in all directions and quickly via battlements Coincidentally, the tower was open for a short time, otherwise it is apparently only accessible for private events. The interior has been heavily renovated and modernized. To the normal guest it may seem cozy Opinion is sometimes a little less, a little more. But overall a great destination for every visitor to Esslingen.

I have fallen in love with Kessler sparkling wines since being in the area. So well priced and delicious. I love heading to this place in the summer and enjoying a glass of sparking wine. A must visit / try while in Stuttgart and specially if in Esslingen.
I took the open tour and it was a fantastic experience. 1.5 hours learning about Sekt and the Kessler history, finishing with tasting of 3 different premium Sekts in a very nice room.
1300 year old winery, specialized in making sparkling wine. Good taste and story behind the winery.
My girlfriend was always mentioning about Kessler when we talk about drinks. She took me here during our visit to Esslingen for Estival. Now I know why she is obsessed with Kessler. I am not a alcohol gourmet but taste of this sekt is absolutely delicious. I learnt there are also tours for the production part. Hope one day I will visit there too
We Made the Visiting Tour with Kessler Sekt incl. the tasting of 3 different Sparkling eines /"chamapignes". our Guide showed us the cellar and provided lots of background and history about Kessler and Sparkling wine which was very entertaining and diverting, time Just flew by....

Excellent view from the old fort. Esslingen can be seen in the palm of your hand. There is also a restaurant where you can drink coffee, beer, and eat. Visiting at night is even more impressive.
This is a 13th-century gate tower with half-timber structure that was once part of the defensive town fortifications around the city of Esslingen. It is one of three surviving Medieval towers in the city and takes its name from the Schelz family that once operated a farm nearby. These days, you will find an ice-cream shop in the ground floor along with a hanging sculpture of a man seemingly walking a tight rope near the tower's top. This is the work of Hubert von der Goltz (1980s). Worth a look see when approaching Marktplatz and the main sightseeing area in Esslingen.
old watch tower from the medieval fortification. dated to 1286.
Much better if it was autumn or spring, but sure would be crowded during summer . But Esslingen in general is less overrated like much of european capital.

Perfect place to be with kids. Entry price is quite justified for the place. It's not a big place but still quite interesting. Good amount and variety of animals who can be fed with popcorn. Having an aquarium is cherry on top. Restaurant is quite good and also at the moderate price. Another good thing is that dogs are allowed. So thumbs up for it.
What a beautiful oasis! You can see that so much love, dedication and care is put into this little paradise. ❤️ Unfortunately I was too busy admiring all the animals, trees, and plants and didn’t take enough photos 🙈
Very cute, little animal park. It is petite, and has a family feel to it. Only 4 euro entry fee. Very relaxing. There is a good amount of small furry animals, like rabbits, goats. Some lake life with fish and birds and a bee farm that sells their own honey. Good amenities, friendly personnel and easy paths. It is more of an extended farm, than a zoo. Recommended.
The place was small but lovely, cosy place for kids. 👍🏼👍🏼
Nymphaea Park it's a small park in the forest, with animals. When you buy the tickets, you can buy popcorn to feed the animals. The kids were very happy to feed the animals. We ate at the park restaurant. Big portion, good food, nothing fancy.
Beautiful place! Good option if you already visited Wilhelma. There are also two restaurants. The zoo is located on the island, which makes it so beautiful with a wonderful nature. It is not expensive and interesting for the adults as well as kids.
This is a nice little zoo, not too big, therefore not too much to see, but it is very well maintained, the animals are in a healthy condition. The only thing that made me deduct a star is that a part of the zoo was emptied (the deers) because of construction works.
Nice walk to the zoo. It also has a small aquarium space. Nice for very small children

Shopping mall
Shopping
Modest, 2-level mall with an atrium offering apparel & electronics stores, plus services & dining.

A lot in one place. Two floors underground garage with a lot of parking spaces.. u can found everything you need in one building.. elevators, elevating stares, a lot of low prices actions. Clohts, shoes, cosmetics, pharmacy, electronic devices, kiosk... everything. Loved it
This is a simple 2 floor shopping complex just north of the rail station in Esslingen with a range of basic retail, service and food shops serving the local residences. Perfectly fine if you live in the area but not a preferred shopping location for tourists visiting Esslingen. Will probably do best to save your shopping time and energies for larger and more comprehensive venues back in Stuttgart. Otherwise, DAS ES! seemed like a useful place fit for purpose here in Esslingen.
A good shopping center with a large selection of clothes, perfumes, household goods and for your loved ones. The shopping center has 2 floors. On the 1st floor there are clothing stores, home stores, perfumes, pharmacies and fast food establishments and cafes. There is a large electronics store on the 2nd floor. Parking available. The center is located directly in the city center.
A good shopping center, suitable for prices and quality, and everyone can walk around to buy 👌
A neat shopping mall that looks pretty nice which also has a good assortment of shops. Can't be compared to shopping malls from Berlin but this also isn't Berlin so duuuh Looks nice, always seems to be kept nice and clean, can't complain too much here
Small mall with variety of shops for clothes, food, bakery, electronics, cleaning supplies and natural products.
There aren't many shops in the mall itself but when you go out onto the road there are a lot more shops. The parking is awful when using the parking garage and it doesn't matter if you've got a big or small car it's a nightmare to get around the corners.
Great small shopping center near the train station when one can find doctors, pharmacies, quick bites, high and low end shoe shops, H&M and etc. plus it is so close to city center. Perfect place to hide from the cold weather

good experience here @ Merkel's. paid one price for 5 activities/therapies : swimming, thermal bath, steam bath, cold water therapy and oxygen therapy.recommend one to come here at least once a week, tun gut für das Körper!
Nice sport pool (lap swimming) and mineral pool. Newly renovated in historic building.
Super place to hang on. Especially in cold weather. We have different pools there namely sport pool, mineral thermal water pool, Sauna. But a bit expensive when a complete family want to hang on. If a family spends about 2 hours, definitely one has to be ready to spend at least 20€. But not a worst spending. I prefer to visit quite regularly.
simply amazing! and so clean! and so blue!
Nice place to relax. Mineral pool was good but after 30min some group with ~15 ppl came for pool exercise. Became too crowded. Staff can inform before if something is planned like this.
I've been going to the Sportbad at least 3 times a week for the last couple of months and I can say it is a very good place to do some training! It has enough space in each line so you can pass slower swimmers or be passed by faster ones, so it doesn't feel that crowded and you can train without the waiting for space. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes there are school children having swimming lessons and the use almost half of the pool so in those cases the rest of the pool gets pretty crowded and it is not that easy to train. But that only happens once in a while.
I was only in the sports pool last time, there is enough room even on weekend and the size and temperature is good, it's cheap if you want only this pool. The other areas are more like spa leisure and somehow I think it's not the best plan for summer, but it's great for relax
Old swimming pool with Modern facilities. Lot of facilities available - Massage, Sauna, Spa, Roof top pool, Warm mineral pool, Sports/Competitive pool and a kids pool.. Quite a friendly staff.

Unexpectedly creative gallery
According to Maps, it was supposed to be open on Sunday, from 11am to 6pm. I came all the way here, from another city, just to find out that it was closed. As far as I know, this Sunday wasn’t even a special bank holiday, I don’t know the reason why it wasn’t open. They better update the timetable to avoid these kind of inconveniences, considering that this place is located in a small town, where people might come just for that. So disappointing!
Very cool location. The exhibition we saw was diverse and interesting.
Went there for a photography exhibition. It is a very well kept space, that lends itself well to events and exhibitions.
(Translated by Google) It's something special and very beautiful building. Everything still looks good and is green all around and has a really great atmosphere. I'm very happy that we have something like this and that there are always events. Spring is especially beautiful because magnolia trees blossom and everything is a beautiful picture. What I discovered is a mobile toilet next to the train station, great and very welcome in the park. (Original) Ist was besonderes und sehr schöne Gebäude .

(Translated by Google) A wonderful gem for contemporary art in a great Villa Merkel... The villa from 1872/73 has been used as a building for the Esslingen municipal gallery since 1973. At the moment Low by Hoël Duret is highly recommended. The young lady at reception was very friendly and helpful. Admission only costs €4, for people who live nearby and want to visit the exhibitions often I can only recommend an annual ticket for €10. An absolute must for lovers and those interested in contemporary art 👍👍 (Original) Ein wunderbares Kleinod für zeitgenössische Kunst in einer tollen Villa Merkel...

(Translated by Google) I ordered a bottle of each wine to try. And what can I say, I'm thrilled. Every single wine has its own character and one tastes better than the other. The wines are not the cheapest, but you can taste the craftsmanship that goes into them. Therefore every euro is worth it. And therefore the price-performance ratio is more than okay. I particularly liked the blue Zweigelt. The awards also speak for themselves. Thanks! Danke!
