Le Espadon experience is fantastic! Went twenty years ago, and again in 2024. It is even better with the updated lighting, video and tour. The audio tour is great for all languages. The roof view is not to be missed. The staff are welcoming and friendly in all languages and the tour price is good value for money giving the enormous task of keeping the submarine alive.
Really enjoyed this little visit. Only takes about an hour to see the sub, but allow yourself anither 20-30 mins to see the view from the top of the building. Fascinating inside, really seems like a crazy jumble of complex machinery, but it must have made sense to the sailors who operated it. There's an audio guide in English too, with useful info and stories triggered as you pass specific points. Quite cramped, no hope of wheelchair access I'm afraid. Good little gift shop, toilets on site, and plenty of free parking.
Nice tour of the Espadon where i was able to walk through the sub. They provided an audio guide in English. Very well done and very tight in there. Take the stairs to top of museum where you have a great view of the Uboat base across the way. Gives you a perspective of the massive size of the base.
Best 13€ you'll ever spend. This a a MUST if you're visiting Saint-Nazaire. Really fun and educational, a big win/win.
Very cool experience would recommend. Staff was nice and friendly and spoke good enough english. The prices were reasonable and the headsets were ok had a problem with it not sitting on my head right but was fine. The submarine was very accessible and had a-lot of interesting facts overall a good experience especially if you’ve never been in a submarine. The gift shop was well priced and had some cool stuff. Theres also a view deck on the building with some cool views of the bay
Very nice place! The audio guide was interesting and the inside of the submarine was very authentic. The gift shop was also good compared to other museums
Interesting to see the submarine, but they explained nothing about the WWII submarine pen in which it is housed. Odd.
Great experience, mid week so it was quiet, limited access if there are groups going around the Submarine

Absolutely superb, a full day is required to see so much and to learn it all. The young lady on the ticket office was very helpful in getting us the right tickets. I once knew an old man who was on the raid at St Nazaire, it was a sort of pilgrimage to remember him and his recollections of what fear really is. Nothing disappointed me. The ocean liners exhibition is magnificent and those far off days of luxury felt alive, the French submarine 'Espadon' is a fascinating visit too
Excellent museum, well thought out and well presented. The staff were friendly and informative. As we did not speak French the staff met us at several points on our visit to explain things that due to the language barrier, we may not have understood. The end of the visit is a bit of a surprise, although not suitable for disabled visitors. Brilliant, a must do activity in Saint Nazaire.
Nice historical visit. You will jump in another century when ferry across ocean still exists. We have learnt a lot of things. Must see in St Nazaire.
After a poor welcome with the ticket office shutters pulled down in our face bang on 1pm we returned at 2pm. Note to self expect all major tourist attractions to shut for lunch! Interesting well presented attraction with mock up of early 20th century ocean liners from cabins to engine rooms. Unique exit via ships lifeboats.
A family-friendly walk back in time, experiencing what it would have been like to be a 1st class passenger on one of the mid-20th century French cruise liners, built in Saint Nazaire. Just enough information for the kids tomunderstamd and for the parents to help fill in the gaps. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
One of the best museums I’ve ever been to, packed full of amazing things to see and an amazing end to the journey.
Very interesting to see the submarine pens.
What an amazing surprise...I visited the old U-Boat pens when I was a child, now...well, it's wonderful!

Striking cable-stayed bridge, one of France's longest, crossing the Loire River.
Slide 1 of 8
When the french build a bridge, they build a BRIDGE. Some nasty crosswinds on two wheels, and the middle lane is a little confusing, but nice views of the port if you've got time to look around. Very pretty to look at from afar, which is very important in a bridge. Definitely better than swimming across the harbour.
This was really a thrilling experience... I went on a bicycle and crossing this bridge made me think of the people closest to me. It was a relaxing Friday, I was on my bike and nearly done with my tour. The Eurovelo told me to cross the bridge. It was impressive at first. Then when getting on the road, I wasn't sure anymore.... There were a lot of cars and only a lane of about 30 centimeters. I started going up the bridge and increasingly felt the wind pressing me towards the cars on the left side, when there was no physical barrier between me and them. While mounting, I started praying and thinking about all my relatives and friends. God, I wish I had written my testament. I had flashbacks of all my happiest moments in life, but I wasn't ready to go. Then on the way downhill the wind was coming from two directions and the cars were going past me. Oh, what Adrenalin. Forget sex, drugs or bungee jumping. This is really the thing. Then when having magnificently survived this bridge, I had to sit on a bench for half an hour. It was like I had been pardoned before my hanging. I mean really, who in God's name would ever plan this. This is officially part of the Eurovelo. These guys thought that the painted 30 centimeters were enough. While being uncertain about whether this was actually intended, the occasional sign sad something about cyclists and paying attention. Thanks for that.... If you feel like you have too much security and stability in your life, then ride this bridge on the bicycle, otherwise you might consider a slightly less death-encountering transportation activity.
Ride the bridge by bike !!!! An amazing Experience ! Done in mai 2024 ! 🚵🏻🌉🚵🏻
Nice long bridge to drive over with magnificent views
Bad enough for cyclists, but I suggest you AVOID on a motorcycle as well unless you are absolutely sure the wind is flat calm.
Amazing bit of engineering x great views and a memory !
Lovely views and great cycle path
Winter is coming and the climate is a bit cold but thanks to the beautiful sunrise and sunset of this place...it really warms my heart.

Massive, German-built U-boat submarine base from WWII, with public tours & exhibits.
Slide 1 of 8
Awesome experience. Go up the stairs to get on top. Also see the French submarine tour right across from the U boat base. Go on top of the French sub building too. From there you can see the massiveness of the U boat base. I stayed in Nantes and came to Saint Nazaire by regional train. Lots of other stuff to see in the area. Stop at the tourist info center at the U boat base.
The base is a sad and run down hulk of its former glory. It could be a major attraction but needs some investment. WWII pundits and history buffs would have appreciated an opportunity to have an exhibition on the history of the naval base, linking the dock to the sinking of Bismarck (as she was on the route here), or opération ‘Chariot’. Feels like all these were erased… The sunken sailing ship is a good epitome of its current state.
Historic site of interest. You can get on to the roof now. Use the very large Long ramp.
Amazing, If you are interested in nazi mega structures & can see past the surroundings, a untidy port town typical of everywhere in the world. Left thinking about the efforts of the slave labour required to construct. Such recent history.
If you’re interested in world war 2. Sites this is a great place to go to see one of the German u boat stations free entry easy access!
Super cool place to visit, a lot of history to be seen.
Worth a visit, free to enter and good views shown over the port from the roof (accessible from a long ramp across the road) next to the carrefour supermarket.Tourist info and gift shop are based inside the sub pens
As a Second World War nerd, this place had to be visited when I was in the area. What a place, it's easy to build these kind of structures with the Organisation Todt slave labour. Still, it's a brilliant lump of concrete. Free to visit, plus you can go on the roof. I also recommend doing the first French submarine visit which is in the dry dock over the harbour. If you have ever been to the Submarine in Portsmouth, then it's like that.

Very nice restaurant with an excellent location by the beach. Service and seating were excellent. The food is very nice and well presented, I tried the scallops.
Gorgeous food, lovely location, charming staff.
Nice cuisine, great view while sitting quite close to the beach but unfortunately the waiters had been a bit in trouble with the amount of persons who ordered within a short period. No English menu but one of the waiters was speaking quite well English. If it would be a bit more quite and the waiter would have a bit more time 5 Stars would be there for sure!
Small but cozy restaurant on the shores of the Atlantic We stopped for a lunch with colleagues and tasted the local specialties. Very friendly staff and great food. Thanks.
Great location, fabulous food, amazing service.
Everything is just so good here! Always the best choice in the area. :)
Excellent restaurant, I recommend it to all food lovers We found this restaurant by luck, booked the last available table and really really enjoyed our meal, the food was amazing. We had the Croustillant de Brie, Tartare de boeuf, fillet de bar, onglet de veau, crème brûlée & fondant au chocolat and everything was delicious! Also, Fiona was a lovely hostess, very attentive.
Really nice and suprising food. All fresh and tasty. Quite a lot of dishes to choose. Not that high prices. We were well served and have really good time with super food and good wine. Interior clean and well designed. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Nice and interesting guided tour
OK, a big tip for Anglophones... this museum has nothing to do with the environment, green issues, or climate change. It's not that kind of 'eco'. It is an industrial heritage museum focused on Saint-Nazaire's shipbuilding & seaplane industries. Really interesting. I wish they had more space. Well worth a visit.
I was so disappointed on Sep 23. I decided to visit your museum on this rainy day. Your website said it was open and I had to walk through a rather sketchy area alone only to find a sign on your door that you were closed! I have a photo to prove it - fermeture exceptionelle - please update your website when necessary. And a bit of a dangerous place to be a lone female - I just read your kind-hearted reply and I totally forgive you!! I hope to visit one day.
Nice view to the estuary.
No English descriptions. Otherwise pretty ok
A beautiful place! It's a place with a lot of things, the ticket is not expensive and it's worth it! I recomand you to go to the sub-marine because it's the best attraction!
Museum of the histoty of St. Nazaire, and how different wars etc. have shaped it. Mostly in French but the ticket lady speaks English which is very nice! The main themes are archeological finds, construction of harbor, ships, seaplanes. Free parking!
Great experience but this museum needs a small update on cruise ships and planes current performances. A small hint on the new development of Saint Nazaire industry (offshore wind, natural gas ships, sails, H2, ...) will be warmly welcome

(Translated by Google) Good evening, a little message for the pharmacist on duty this night. Madam, having recently accompanied my friend to your pharmacy because she was very unwell, you curtly and without empathy refused to deliver her treatment because she did not have her mutual insurance card (I remind you that mutual insurance companies no longer issue 'certificate). Having neither credit card nor cash on him, you coldly sent him back to his home! I do not recommend your pharmacy, especially at night for people in suffering. (and my friend didn't say anything to me in the car...
(Translated by Google) Definitely avoid if you value your health. Having lived in Saint-Nazaire for a year, my partner and I unfortunately made the mistake of trusting this pharmacy to manage his heavy and regular treatment: a biological therapy that requires weekly injections, prescribed for over ten years. The result: a year of recurring incompetence. Every month, the same scenario repeats itself: the medication, despite being essential, is never ordered in advance. It is systematically ordered at the last minute, with the attendant risk of stockouts—which has happened several times. Even today, my partner left without his medication, once again. The most appalling thing is their justification: it's impossible, according to them, to anticipate all customers' orders. And as luck would have it, when they deign to call, it's the evening before, without even leaving a voicemail. A very haphazard organization for such an essential responsibility. Add to that the haphazard handling of prescriptions: misplaced prescriptions, then blaming the patient. An internal mechanism that inspires more casualness than professional rigor. The language used speaks for itself: here, it's not about patients, but about customers. This slip of the tongue alone sums up their priority: selling products in the window rather than seriously managing treatments. A pharmacy more concerned with its parapharmacy shelves than with medical follow-up. In other cities (Nantes, Carquefou, Rennes), no problems have ever been encountered. Pharmacists there assume their role without complaint, ordering essential treatments on time. Here, they explain, without batting an eyelid, that it would be too risky to advance the costs for a medication... which has been requested every month for a year. The risk, in reality, is mainly for the patient—who is left without treatment. Finally, when we explained the situation to another pharmacy in Saint-Nazaire, their astonishment confirmed that this type of operation is anything but normal. This isn't just a glitch, but rather poor management that betrays a certain carelessness in the practice of a crucial profession. In short: an unreliable establishment, with poor management, where the concept of continuity of care seems to have been forgotten. This isn't a business you're running, it's a pharmacy. Or at least, it should be. Résultat : un an d’incompétence récurrente.

(Translated by Google) Excellent welcome - we went to the tourist office to find out what there was to do in St. Nazaire with 11-year-old children. The welcome was very professional, the information precise and valuable in directing us towards free, self-guided or paid visits. Spoiled for choice! A big thank you. (Translated by Google) The only megalithic ensemble IN PLACE and therefore not moved, in the center of a European city. It was probably a tumulus (go and see the one at Dissignac when it is accessible). It was the Tourist Office which, between the two world wars, had the long stone straightened to make a menhir (advertising argument). Now, of the 18 stones listed by de Kerviler at the end of the 19th century, only these remain. Young people come to have fun climbing on it and the ground is a dog mess. St Nazaire Renversante has recently been offering a more artistic visit during the summer. It is possible to continue via the Ecomusée (not far on foot) to discover the objects found during the digging of the Méan and Penhoët basins, including a skull from the Bronze Age which notably enabled the engineer René de Kerviler to establish a "prehistoric chronometer of Saint-Nazaire".

It wasn’t even an employee of the dolmen but a passerby who informed us! What a shame…. Travel 200km for that… My children told me it was the worst vacation of their lives My wife no longer speaks to me In short, not crazy overall (Original) En vacances à saint nazaire avec ma famille Nous avons vus disponible 24h/24h le Dolmen des trois Pierres, L’accueil est à revoir nous avons attendu 2h avant qu’une personne vienne nous servir ! Our guide, Celine (?) , did a good job in english. Interesting place if interested in history
It is unfortunate we could not get to visit the Tumulus at close hand. Closed! There is a well constructed fence all around it. Car parking is available, and there is a ticket office to purchase a ticket. It appears to be open from the beginning of July to the end of August, closed on Mondays and Saturdays and of course closed during Lunch Time. Price for the visit when it is open is 6 Euro.
Important neolithic site in Saint-Nazaire.
(Translated by Google) Great visit, with 45 minutes it allows you to take your time, plus as we are in a small group it is very pleasant. I recommend! Be careful, the entrance to the tumulus remains from the period, it is therefore very narrow and therefore inaccessible by wheelchair.
