The Cathedral of Ciudad Rodrigo is a stunning architectural masterpiece that should not be missed! Its monumental size and imposing presence make it a true landmark in the city. The intricate details of the exterior, with its impressive stone carvings and majestic towers, are a testament to the craftsmanship of its time. Stepping inside, you're greeted by a serene and awe-inspiring interior. The soaring ceilings and exquisite altars create a space that is both grand and peaceful. Each element of the architecture reflects the rich history and artistic heritage of this magnificent cathedral. One of the highlights of the Cathedral of Ciudad Rodrigo is the marvellous Gothic cloister garden. This tranquil oasis is filled with aromatic lavender bushes, providing a delightful sensory experience. Combining the Gothic arches and the fragrant garden creates a magical atmosphere that invites reflection and relaxation. Overall, the Cathedral of Ciudad Rodrigo is a breathtaking blend of monumental architecture and serene beauty. It's a must-visit for anyone exploring the area, offering a perfect blend of history, art, and natural beauty. It is highly recommended!
Beautiful magnetic medieval Spanish church. 11°C temperature difference inside the church compared to the outside. A blessing too.
It is, without a doubt, the most important monument in the town, declared a Historic Site. King Ferdinand II of León promoted its construction at the end of the 12th century, but the work continued for six centuries, meaning it underwent numerous changes and influences. Of the three existing doors, the Pórtico do Perdão is the most important and one of the most spectacular in Spain. From the 13th century, the two twin arches and the parteluz stand out, as well as the iconography with representations alluding to Jesus, the apostles and the Virgin. The Las Cadenas gate, with Romanesque imagery, and the Enlosado or Amayuelas gate complete the entrances. Inside, it is divided into three naves and a transept and is topped by a large apse. The choir is one of the most beautiful works in the temple. It has a Spanish-Flemish style with magnificently carved ashlars, the work of Rodrigo Alemán. The cloister is an integral part of the architectural complex, with beautiful Romanesque reliefs on the capitals and a rich and varied iconography. On the exterior façade, facing the wall, you can see the impact of the bombs that, during the War of Independence, almost brought down this magnificent construction.
The Cathedral of Santa María is the heart of Ciudad Rodrigo and a must-see. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, it combines Romanesque and Gothic styles beautifully. The façade with its carvings and rose window is impressive, and inside you find a peaceful space with high arches, altarpieces, and a stunning cloister. Entry is around €6 and includes the cloister and small museum – absolutely worth it. A place full of history, beauty, and silence right in the center of town
It's OK and you kind of have to visit it but it seemed expensive.
Amazing to see the craftsmanship of the many amazing hands who made this building. Worth the visit, although , we vere disappointed when were sold the full ticket, which included visit to the tower withholding the important information about the fact that a small group have to gather and there is considerable waiting to start the tour.
The Cathedral is nice but I gave one star to the old Spanish lady in the ticket office for her terrible attitude yesterday. We stopped by on our way from Portugal to north Spain and arrived 5 min before its closing time in the noon. We just wanted to have a quick 5 min look inside the cathedral and the lady said it was closed. I accepted that she was in a hurry to take a nap even though it's 5 mins earlier than its official closing time. Then I wanted to use the bathroom and she again refused me. It's unbelievablely rude and not professional. How evil can you be to refuse a toilet visit? I think the cathedral should make sure that you hire someone who is doing their job the sell the cathedral and the city to the visitors.
The carved wooden seats in the choir are worth the admission price alone. Magnificent building.

Definitely a unique place to visit. If you've got 30 to 40 minutes, it's an interesting visit for 2 euro.
Silly program for this museum, closing at 14:00. We travelled 800+km to get to Ciudad Rodrigo, and while there, wanted to visit this museum, and bummer, it was closed 38 minutes after we arrived. What a dissapointment :( Had no idea about this museum before, so could not plan my trip accordingly. Would have been an interesting place to see, but I will probably never get to this area again.

(Translated by Google) I really enjoyed visiting this city, particularly the historic area, the main square and the town hall, among other things. But I liked the town hall the most, I don't think I'm mistaken, but the photos I've included can attest to that. There were stalls selling regional products scattered around the square and many of the shops were open, so I had the opportunity to buy some souvenirs. I liked the town hall building, its staircase, which leads to the first floor, with a beautiful old handrail that continues on the edge of the square, surrounding the façade, which houses a large balcony where an exhibition dedicated to bullfighting was taking place. But above all, I liked the houses, churches and medieval and Gothic architecture, observing the ruins that bear witness to a tragic past, experienced by the inhabitants and which left deep marks on its mural. And I'm going back, because I couldn't leave the walled city due to lack of time, and I intend to visit the most recent part of the city and the province as a whole, including visiting Salamanca in more detail.

(Translated by Google) Ciudad Rodrigo City Hall is, quite simply, an example of how all public institutions should operate. From the first contact, the service has been incredible: kindness, efficiency, and a closeness that is so appreciated. It's a pleasure to deal with people who are truly involved and put their heart into everything they do. The building itself is beautiful, steeped in history, and perfectly preserved, one of the most beautiful corners of the city. But what truly makes this City Hall special is its team. Councilman Víctor is a true luxury: professional, attentive, and always willing to help with anything needed. And the mayor, Marcos, is an example of closeness, humility, and commitment to his city. It's clear that he's passionate about Ciudad Rodrigo and works every day to improve it and support those who promote local projects. I wish all city halls operated with such a positive, collaborative, and friendly attitude. In every management process, every conversation, and every detail, you can feel the love for the city and its people. 💛 My heartfelt thanks to the City Council of Ciudad Rodrigo, Víctor, and Marcos for doing things so well and for their tremendous human qualities. It's a pleasure to work with such dedicated people. I wish all municipalities had a team this dedicated!
(Translated by Google) It is impossible to start your visit to the city from here, because to get to the town hall, you first have to be surprised by the network of centuries-old streets and buildings. I want to say that when you finally arrive at the square where the building is located, you should no longer be surprised by its presence, however, it is not true, when you are in the square and you look at the town hall what you feel is admiration, it is curious and beautiful alike. In addition, documents from more than a thousand years old sleep in it. That alone should make us waste a few minutes on it. Además, en él duermen documentos de más de mil años. Sólo por eso ya debería hacernos perder unos minutos en él.

We made a detour on our way to Salamanca to visit the castle. It's absolutely beautiful!!
This castle is now the Parador de Ciudad Rodrigo. We loved it. I thought the rooms are decorated in a way that goes really well with the style of the castle. The bed was not huge, but a good size, clean and comfortable. Staff was also really friendly. The reservation web site is confusing as it says they have only double beds or 2 twin size beds. However the "double" size beds are actually queen size beds. Make sure to go up the tower of the castle. You will get 360 beautiful views of the village.
It has a nice ambience and the chocolate was very delicious. But I get the feeling that the stuff are always busy doing many things and it doesn't feel very friendly and welcoming as a Vibe
It is a beautiful and very old place. It is very big and impressive. I would recommend it to anyone who has never been here. It is a very big church.
Such a cool historic castle in Cuidad Rodrigo. We stayed in the castle, which was wonderful, but we also explored the castle tower and walked along the walls. The castle is well maintained and beautiful.
Very striking castle and beautiful Parador
A gorgeous spot to spend a vacation. Spent the night in the castle. Beautiful furnishings and a room fit for a king. You can walk the fortress walls and have a great view of the Roman bridge below. A must see. Paradore hotels are outstanding.
Just great. Staff were wonderful, reception great, restaurant awesome when we were a little late for our evening meal. Can't say enough good things. Great when you travel with dog.

(Translated by Google) Italian style house, its façade less austere than the houses in its surroundings. Curious and striking corner balcony where that Italian influence is clearly seen. The story goes that its creator, the Marchioness, was told that as soon as the building was finished she would die, so she did not want to finish it and, in fact, it remained unfinished. It appears empty with nothing inside but with future intentions to use it. (Original) Casa de estilo italiano , menos austera su fachada que las casa de su entorno. Curioso y llamativo balcón esquinero donde se ve claramente esa influencia italiana. Se muestra vacío sin nada en su interior pero con intenciones futuras de darle uso.

Really cool Roman columns located on a rotunda just off the highway, so it's quick and easy to visit if you're on the road traveling. Because of its location, it's easy to take a nice photo at any time of day except when the sun is directly overhead. There is also a beautiful black and white crane nesting on the top. Just beware the angry man dressed in pink who shouts sexist obscenities at women. I was alone photographing in Ciudad Rodrigo and there were no other people there at that moment, and I felt a little unsafe. Otherwise, really great!
