Great views over Arraiolos and the surrounding area. Easy to park if you use the entrance near the sports field. The inner part of the castle has a Church and a large empty area.
The castle is open to all, free of charge. There are only two interpretive signs to explain a lot about this place. Good place atop the hill to take panaromic views of the town below. Plenty of parking. Plan on spending maybe 30 to 45 minutes looking around.
Incredibly beautiful location on an elevated space with good landscapes. Nearby a nice little town, farms and mountains on the horizon. The castle itself looks very ancient, like a Roman fort, but I'm not sure )
Castelo de Arraiolos Type: castle, historical ruins Located within: a church Price: free Time spent: 30-45 min Public transport from Évora: bus + 15 min walk WC: not available Bike parking: not available Parking: random place next to it The first settlement was formed here 300 BC. The permission to build a castle was given in 1217 by the king Afonso II. The castle was finished in the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the 17th century, but soon the barbican had fallen and the castle was abandoned. The 1755 earthquake increased the damage.
It is worth it to drive up here for a quick visit because it is unspoiled. I encountered a wild fig tree by the stairs to the crenellations, and a huge white cat surprised me when I glanced into a dark window. The building was not open when I was there.
Much of the castle is in ruins which can be expected from such an old structure. The castle walls are very well preserved. Worth the visit just for the magnificent 360 degree views on the town and surrounding landscapes. Can be accessed by car on a tight road, but climbing up through the old town is also scenic.
Medieval Castle in the city of Arraiolos. According to Lonely Planet, it’s original structure comes from the 14th century. This castle is also one of Portugal's few fortifications built in a circular pattern! I really enjoyed it. Great view of the city. It’s free to see.
Amazing round walled ruin of Castle and church, not much maintenance, church closed, walls falling apart, full of rubbish, used as parking for cars. A pity to see such a great historic site in such a state

This is a fascinating little museum about the wool making, dyeing and fabrication of carpets and tapestries in Portugal. Well worth a visit. Be sure to park in one of the public parking areas and walk up to the town square where you will find the museum. Short walk from there to the castle for some great views.
Great museum dedicated to the famous carpets of Arraiolos. Nice to follow the history of how these carpets became such a sought after item to have. Not a very big space so allow 30 minutes to get through all of the rooms and exhibits. Spend some time with one of the ladies demonstrating how these beautiful artworks are created.
The area surrounding the interpretative centre is one of local history of tapetes. Sight seeing the area gives information on how tapetes are made and how the industry began in Arraiolos. It is a place where you will definitely enjoy being around the locals and enjoying handwoven craftwork. No pictures of any store was taken to protect the designs of carpets, as you would have to go in to enjoy these because each store owner would give you the history and reasoning behind a new carpet or a carpet that is to be repaired and restored to its original state. Also some tapetes are displayed on the street as you would find on banners or posters. It is such a beautiful experience. The Interpretative centre was not opened the day I visited, but around its locations on the walls and on the floor there are so many enchanting details.
On a very hot day we weren't even able to wait with our dog in the lobby area while we took in turns to see the exhibition. No where near the exhibition. Our dog is an 8month old fluffy thing. Harmless. Attitudes to dogs need to change. Kids are more trouble and they would be allowed in the lobby and the exhibition.
It explains the process of creating and making the carpets very well, however, on the 2nd floor the donated pieces lack an explanation of what they're if you're familiar with the artistic movements or the era they were made in. I've posted an example of this with my review. Other than that, I've really enjoyed the museum.
Interesting Museum where you can learn about the art of Arraiolos Tapestry
A must see when visiting the area. Such history! Fascinating.
They don’t take cards. To make matters worse employee in reception failed to let us know there was a cash point right across the street. Terrible customer service, clearly not interested in having visitors.

A wonderfully relaxed tour with old carriages and a vineyard finishing with a wine tasting. The lovely multilingual lady running the tour (whose name I missed unfortunately) was suitably informed on all aspects that I expressed curiosity for. She also recommended the correct restaurants in Arraiolos. I visited in February, so it was quiet and the vineyard itself had no leaves, but it was still very worthwhile.
Big Beautiful property. We walked around for awhile. No one was here... totally empty. We called and looked at the winery and gift shop. nothing was open Saturday at 2pm.
Monte da Ravasqueira is a beautiful winery in the heart of Alentejo, just over an hour from Lisbon. The place is surrounded by vineyards, olive trees, and stunning countryside, with a perfect mix of traditional Alentejo charm and modern style. The guided tour takes you through the vineyards, the winery, and the fascinating Carriage Museum, which has an amazing collection of historic carriages. The wine tasting is excellent, with knowledgeable staff who explain everything in a friendly way, and the wines themselves are truly worth the visit. It’s peaceful, scenic, and a great spot to relax, learn, and enjoy some of the best wines in the region.
This estate is a staggering 7,000 plus acres and has been owned by the same family since shorty after WW2. The family is one of the wealthiest in Portugal. This property was their summer estate where they groomed horses for a long time before the current generation decided to turn it into a winery. We arrived by car and found ample parking. We had a wonderful private tour of the estate. Our guide was knowledgeable and allowed us to not only explore the facility to be be educated into the process of turning grapes into wine. We walked from the tasting room to the fermenting facility which from a distance looked like old buildings but were in fact newer building made to look old. Inside we wondered along the gantries and looked down on the large stainless steel vats where the grapes are crushed and the wine starts its first fermenting in large stainless steel tanks. We then explored the storage room where a certain amount of wine destined for a vintage label are stored in oak barrels. We were allowed to have a peek into the bottling room where modern machinery fills and labels the bottles. The fields are labeled with Portuguese Ceramic tile signs that identify the type of grape grown there. Heading back to the tasting room we passed the private residence of the family which is still in use today. Along the way we popped into a building which forms the museum of antique carriages collected over the years by the original owner of the property. Carriages for the 1700 look as they did in the period. They have not been rebuild or reupholstered. The collection is very interesting even if your not into carriages. Just the array of the transportation of the pre-automobile era over the centuries is fascinating. We spent some time in front of a unique and rather large carriage that was once owned by the famous car designer Bugatti himself. From the museum we moved on to the wine tasting. The tasting comes with a fee depending on what you want to taste. In the end we discovered that the wine we liked is only $6 more at home in North America as the price the winery was charging. This was surprising and frankly, disappointing. One would expect the price to far less than the full retail half a world away. In the end we did not buy any wine. However, we decided to try a bottle of their champagne or Spumante as they call it because the can not use the Champagne name. We brought it home and look forward to opening it. The property also has a restaurant which requires a reservation in advance. If your in the area, its worth a tour.
Well versed staff who explained the history of the winery, along with the tour of the carriages. Excellent wine tasting to follow, with the opportunity to purchase wines/port/olive oil/honey before you leave. Explanations of the wines/grapes were amazing and made the day worthwhile. It should be noted that if you arrive by taxi, then arrangements should be made beforehand for collection...as this can be tricky. Overall a 5-star (if not higher) experience.
Beautiful property and winery. Out-of-the-ordinary because of the collection of antique carriages that visitors can see on the guided tour. Beautiful wine tasting room, interesting tour of wine-making, delicious lunch – and wine – in yet another beautiful room (with a fireplace), hosted by smiling, friendly Carlos. Teresa, our guide for the winery tour was informative, knowledgeable, nice and – when we told her we did not have a car – drove us in her car (weather was awful for walking). Worth a visit!
A place not to be missed if you around! We had an amazing tour, getting to know a lot of facts around vineyards and the family history - big thanks to Tereza (if I remember right name). After we had an unforgettable lunch and wine tasting - we really enjoyed this stay, thanks and continue what you doing because you are great, thanks!
As tours of wineries go, this is brilliant. Surprising store of beautiful old horse-drawn carriages as a bonus. We found 2 bottles of wine we loved and bought.

Aroche is surrounded by holm oak pastures and a large forest area, lands through which the banks of the Chanza and Alcalaboza rivers flow, creating landscapes that seem made for strolling. Meanwhile, in the town, whose historic center has been declared a Historic Site, walking its streets becomes a cultural experience where we encounter undisputed landmarks that allow us to learn about its past and present, such as the Islamic castle, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the 17th-century artillery wall, La Almena, and the town's stately homes. Here, we also have a Rosary Museum, where you can see more than 2,000 pieces of every imaginable material.

The tax authorities: "Yes, I'll send you the payment letter in a few days." Years later, I appear in the Official State Gazette (BOE), as a common debtor (I don't know to what address they sent the notification). I had to pay a surcharge, and of course, I couldn't claim that payment as I would have if they had sent it promptly, as they said. Disreputable is an understatement. If you have to do anything with them, pray... And don't even think about providing an account for direct debit payments; they're prehistoric; they'll give you an account to make the payment, thus bothering you even more and wasting our time.

Understated on the outside a small fee lets you into a really lovely tiled space in the Evora old town. It's just delightful.
I tried to go inside to pray and the young guy told me that I need to pay to go inside, it’s a “private” church.” We need to pay just to pray in a house of the God?? His attitude seems very childish and unprofessional. To pray, asking people to pay?? That’s absurd and he was very rude and unfriendly.
For the small entrance fee the beautifully preserved church is worth a visit.
Pretty church with some nice azulejos (blue tiles) inside. The price seems at little steep compared to other churches in Evora and Portugal in general.
The most beautiful little church. The azulejos and the overall proportion are just gorgeous!
The church inside with its excellent azulejos is beautiful, but you have to pay for a very expensive ticket combined with rather uniteresting palace. Not worth it

The Chapel of São Sebastião or Church of São Francisco, as it is known, was built in the late 16th century by order of Dom João Coutinho and his wife Dona Francisca de Meneses, with the intention of commemorating those who died in the Battle of Alcácer Quibir. With the extinction of religious orders in Portugal in the 19th century, the building ended up serving many purposes, from a granary to a post office, and it was only in 1960 that it was returned to worship. Beautiful church in Evora. Highly recommend visiting. The history is amazing. Worth using a guide to learn more as you visit. Free to enter.
During our stop over in Évora, we explored the city center because it was walking distance from our hotel. We visited the church and it was a great experience. The architecture was indeed beautiful. It is free to visit this church.
This beautiful small church is attached to the chapel of bones. The outside the beautiful and so is the inside. It's a great stop as your're exploring the surrounding area and the best part is, it's free. It's not very busy and depending on when you get there, you could be the only one in the church
A church with a stunning indoor design!! The azulejos on the walls, the black and white stones through the roof, and the characteristic structure of the roof lines. It was totally worthy to visit and no entrance fee was needed. Unlike some churches in Evora, it was open on Sunday. I definitely recommend to visit.
I am always amazed at the architecture. Definitely worth checking out as it is next door to Chapel of Bones. Lots to look at and admire.
