Even though it seems strange to review a public square, I feel that I must. The place was lively and fun, with lots of nice restaurants and fun for young and old. We booked a stay in on of the houses around the square. If you don't need a lot of sleep, this is very authentic. Be aware, though, the bell of the clock tower goes off every 15 minutes!
Lovely city to wander around and very good choice and value for money food
Beautiful place with several activities happening, huge sand pit for volleyball, where our son ended up playing a lot, very kids friendly and many excellent options for food just around this square.
A nice and beautiful place. Several restaurants and bar on the place. During my visit, works were carryout.
Huge cobbled square surrounded by tall 19th Century buildings of similar design. Markets held here on certain days.
Beautiful architecture and relaxed bars/restaurants surround this large historic focal point of the old town. A great place to soak up the atmosphere, if you don't mind the large marquee which dominates one half of the square.
Lovely to spend time here
A beautiful square. I was there with 'Frolicked' for the international puppet festival and it was always packed with buskers and shows and lovely people. The bars around the square are also lovely; recommend 'La Mantoue'.

Interesting museum of this famous man. I missed out on the fine works with not speaking French.
Interesting and unexpected take on the concept of a 'museum'. It's more a series of experiences (of whispered poetry in the blue room at the top) and impressions. Certainly worth a visit, even if you are not particularly an Arthur Rimbaud fan.
Very welcoming staff. The museum is interestingly organised However, the floor where there are voices reciting famous Rimbaud writings is only of interest if you have read the works.
Great city Beautiful architecture Amazing Place Ducale Belle Meuse
Nicely done, interesting museum. It's not big, but very informative. Much of the info only available in French.
You need to be a fan of Rimbaud to enjoy this museum. I was hoping to see more of the original mill.
I’ve never been there. But it’s Rimbaud, so… Peak Fr

Very creative place/ puppetery collage. For creative people and serious work artist
There's one mini show per hour, presenting in total 12 scenes during the day. If you want to know more about its story or just have a peek at the hidden mechanism, you can check out the museum.
Oh dear. We made a special trip back here at 2pm as I insisted we should watch the show. We needn't really have bothered. In honesty I wasn't expecting it to work at all, it looks very tired & there's fencing around the lower level. At 2pm the red doors opened, the mouth went up & down & the two puppets inside moved a bit. I'm glad we went back to see it, but it really wasn't worth the effort. It's a shame, as no doubt with a bit of effort it could be fully restored & wonderful again. PS. the legs don't move!
Unfortunately it's old and not restored back to it's old glory. At 5 o'clock the curtain went open... at 5.05 the curtainw as closed...no show was seen 😅
Interesting giant puppet mechanic clock showing different performances at o'clock hours.
Cool unique show every hour (it's like a mechanic clock). Very interesting as a show, but even more interesting when you learn about the marionette culture around it...
(Translated by Google) Beautiful masterpiece if only it were maintained... Now you have to find a time when it works more or less. 2 p.m. today, no sound. 6 p.m., sound, but only the head moves and no longer the hands like before. Lots of disappointed tourists and children. One good, very good museum. It was a nice surprise to visit it. Totally worth it!
One of the top the museums in Charleville, located on the Southeast corner of Place ducale. The ticket includes entry to two more museums in the city. Interesting objects of art, history, and culture for both children as well as adults. Everything is in balance and well displayed. A visit to the small bookstore is worth the extra time. Also look out for special exhibits in the gallery adjacent to the bookstore.
Placed at the southeast corner in Place Ducale. In winter time, reduced opening times, please check attached pictures with details. A saving option is to get a combined ticket for the Musée Rimbaud as well. A good place to park free your vehicle is Place Jacques Félix, at 5 minutes walking distance.
Had a lovely hour walking through this museum and seeing the archaeological finds of the Ardennes. Was surprised that the marionnettes we wanted to see where housed inside here and that we could watch the clock and see the entire movement of the housing for them on the top floor of the museum. We were surprised that it seems one of the advertisements had a picture of either WWI or WW2, but there were no displays having to do with war time here. That of course leaves room for all the other parts! Was definitely a nice stop.
(Translated by Google) So here you are in something very interesting and truly complete, it's huge and the tour route is well studied, the progression of the themes and exhibition pieces is excellent and well done. It's modern, the lighting, signage and explanatory panels highlight the windows and numerous objects. You can't imagine everything there is to see in this place, it's incredible, such diversity, it's more and more beautiful as you wander around, what wonder and discoveries. In addition, you end up behind the scenes of the machinery and mechanism of the clock of the great puppeteer, which will be on view at the end of your visit outside the museum on the adjoining square, an animated show lasting a few minutes at the right times. The price of the visit is very cheap (here we understand everything about the culture) do not hesitate to take the combined ticket 3 sites (with the Rimbaud museum and the museum of elsewhere) inexpensive!! Well done to the very friendly team.
(Translated by Google) A rather cold welcome with the children. The museum is pleasant and covers many different periods and themes. But it is clearly not designed for family visits. There are no games to encourage children to discover things on their own. In any case, nothing was offered to us. Great little zoo, free entrance, and you even get bag of food to feed the animals . They have beautiful deers , pigs ,goats, sheep's, and some birds . Animals have large and natural spaces to live, and you can see that they are well cared for . Also, the landscape is amazing for a walk. Staff is really friendly . If in the region it is a must visit .
Great choice for a short walk in nature. Having the chance to see the local wild fauna up close is refreshing and filling with curiosity any soul, either adult or young!
Great park for a walk and to see the many dear, goats and boars. Upon entry we got a bag of food to feed the deer. It was amazing. Free entry. Point of attention: all the toilets are squatting toilets and not ones you can sit on.
Well set out park of various local wildlife, including various breeds of deer, boars, sheep, chickens and goats. If you are lucky the Red deer will be nearer the fence for good photo's
We stop somewhere on the way to Brussel. And found this zoo :) its a very good place to take a walk.. surrounded by nature and loveing animals. The parking is free and there’s no entrance fee. Worth to visit ☺️✨
Very cute park with animals in their natural habitats. When early you can take a small bag with food for the goats, sheeps, pigs and deer if they want some. Very scenic and wide enclosures for the animals, you can see they're being taken good care of. Amazing to do just at opening time to enjoy the peace and quiet. Some signs (only french) about the animals and other fun facts. Fun and educational. Toilets also there, note they're only squatting toilets. Bring binoculars to enjoy the park to its fullest. On busy weekend times on the parking lot an ice cream truck appears.
Best place to calm down, and enjoy nature while seeing and feeding local animals. The staff was super friendly

Great place to climb in trees 🌲
We went to park TERRALTITUDE to go treeclimbing; called the Accrobranche. The staff was very friendly and had a smooth experience getting geared up. The routes were pretty fun and creative, but didn't go very high. I would have enjoyed that personally. One downside was that park oversight seemed to be understaffed. In front of us were a bunch of kids that were too young and too scared to do a difficult route. They didn't dare go further so we ended up stuck there for 30 minutes without anyone coming to help or assist. Hope they get more staff in the future.
I went with my children ages 5 and 2 and we had a great day. The park is very well maintained and there is lots to do even for small children (go karts, sand pit, swings, trampolines and much more). For bigger guests all of the activities looked amazing! We will definitely return.
From booking online to the Fantasticable zip wire experience, it was all well organised and enjoyable. 5 adults went at 1030am (we are Defender owners, so pleased that the 4x4 which takes you up is a 110 and can take the rough track without going very slowly) and once in the harness we all felt very safe and secure. The thrill-seeker part of me wanted it to be even faster, but the way the land falls away and then you cross the wide Meuse river is great at any speed! Boys wanted to do it again IMMEDIATELY!
Doing the Fantasticable was an amazing and exciting experience. I always felt in safe hands and absolutely no scared.
We did the long zip line over the river and into the forest. It was absolutely fantastic. Terraltitude was very quiet. We think its because their website doesn't really show how fantastic their site is. There are rope climbs for all ages even for the little ones.
Me, my wife and 2 boys (12 & 6) had such a blast at this place. The activities are wonderfully fun and the staf are super nice
Super enjoyable time climbing trees and obstacles while attached to a safety cable. Different levels available for everyone from little children to expert climbers.

Great aire well positioned for access to the town and parkland. Lovely view of the marina and the swimming pool is 4 minutes walk away highly recommended
Adequate pitch. Good location for the town. Facilities OK but 'tired' and unloved...had clearly seen better days. No Internet. No seating eg picnic tables for basic campers ( walkers and cyclists).
I'm in love! Ghent is great! Manchester is cool! Reims is ok. I could go on...this os a great park just outside of Charleville Mézières...so cross the parc and dive in the city centre...
Lovely public park. Cycle paths & lots of play areas.
Perfect location. Next to the river. Full facilities and a laundry to boot. Plenty of trees for shade Can get a bit noisy from locals leaving the bar down the road, but if your a heavy sleeper you won't hear them.
Nice shady pitches. Welcoming receptionist and shops not too far. Nice ablutions.
Location seems great, though I arrived at 17:50 and reception was long since closed when it specifies on the door itself and website ..18:00. I just walked in and camped regardless. Upkeep was visibly lacking with trash and overgrown pitches, and no security either when there are groups of migrants wandering in the periphery. Strange vibes indeed, and accompanied by lots of evening mosquitos. Maybe it was an unlucky day, though....no 24 hour staff for a campsite this large is really not good, and no security either...
Nice park with a camping and boat harbor.

The interior of the church is absolutely stunning, if you love architecture I would definitely recommend, because the interior is also really open and truly lets in all the colours. the outside is poorly maintained, but that also has its charm as it is a reminder of the temporary nature of things and also adds to the contrast/suprise between inside and outside one could state; the skin and the inner soul
It is one of the best churches with stained glass. It is an old church, but the windows are modern 1970. Picasso was asked but suggested another artist with similar views. One of those gems that are outside the places the standard tourists visits.
Stunning interior, colours from sunlight through the windows is glorious. Don’t be put off by the shabby exterior!
Definitely you shall visit. It's simple inside but somehow it's very pleasant to seat and observe the interior.
A peaceful church where one can go to look at abstract stained glass windows. Light a candle at the statue of the black virgin of you want your hopes fulfilled. There are guide pages on how to interpret the art. The history of the church is quite fascinating. It has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over.
This church is a must! The windows are very unique, even though it looks like one more gothic church, the windows glass makes the difference. It was all made by the same artist almost 59 years ago and there is some information about it inside!
Amazing stained glass by Ardennes native from Bar-le-Duc, René Dürrbach. Do visit late afternoon before sunset to enjoy the tranquility of the Basilica and natural light coming throughout the stained glass windows.
This church have a great history, if you have the opportunity to listen to the organ, it makes the place magic.

Construction work, exhibition setup, interruptions to the tour, and part of the room was inaccessible. No discount was offered to compensate for the inconvenience. Closing the site for the day would have been respectful of the holiday visitors who could have visited on a more suitable day. Otherwise, the museum is quite comprehensive; audio guides are available, but not with headphones. This is also why it was unpleasant to visit that day; the loudspeaker didn't cover the noise of the construction. The video at the end of the tour somewhat enhanced the description of the visit. Quite austere feel but the windows break it up with colourful shafts of light. Very unusual pulpit. Vast scale not appreciated from outside.
Nice church. Worst visiting.
A beautiful church
(Translated by Google) Although there are older and more richly decorated churches, this church has many special and beautiful places to admire.

Very nice staff! Thank you for your help!
It's just OK, it was very long queue , and when we arrived at the desk , they asked us to wait 20 minutes more , so we just left
(Translated by Google) A very warm welcome and excellent advice and documents for our visit. Thank you for recommending the Notre Dame d’Espagne basilica where we had a magical time and whose stained glass windows we loved. Big crush on Charleville and Mézières!
(Translated by Google) Nice office, very nice printing about all the possibilities in the area, very friendly staff in English about the possibilities for cycling along the Maas and visiting the nearby Fort of Sedan. Everything you want from a swimming pool! And the toboggans are surprisingly fast and fun!
You’re thieves. Disgusting You took my sons money first then inform them afterwards that they had the wrong swim outfit (board shorts) and didn’t let them enter. To make it worse they didn’t return their money of 10€. Disgusting arrogance
Great place to cool off in the summer. Lots of pools to choose from.
It's pity that there was no sauna .

Entry to this museum is included in the ticket to the Rimbaud museum in the old mill Rimbaud museum on the Meuse and the Ardennes museum in place ducale. This historic house is transformer into multiple galleries of various art and artists. Some galleries are modern and others are traditional. It is a great way to preserve an historic house, which would become a restaurant or an inn to survive.
(Translated by Google) Oddly enough, there's nothing but empty, slightly dilapidated rooms and a few photos each accompanied by a short text. And yet it's very evocative of this elsewhere that Rimbaud sought all his life. Emptiness and dreams. We were alone during our visit. Charm guaranteed.
(Translated by Google) To be combined with the Arthur Rimbaud museum. Quite empty but completes the museum (Original) A combiner avec le musée d'Arthur Rimbaud. Assez vide mais complète le musée
(Translated by Google) The place is steeped in history, as Rimbaud lived there, but there's no trace of it other than remnants of wallpaper. Exhibition I didn't really care for: very modern, literary. Luckily, it was free that day.
(Translated by Google) I don't even understand how anyone can charge for such a visit. The house is completely empty, with amateur poems on the walls. Save your time. I strongly advise against it! What a scam!!! Gagner votre temps. Je déconseille vivement ! Quelle arnaque !!!
(Translated by Google) I don't see the connection with the current exhibition and Arthur Rimbaud... he certainly lived there but it's of no real interest.
(Translated by Google) A must-see The Maison des Ailleurs is a place dedicated to the poet Arthur Rimbaud, in his hometown of Charleville-Mézières. It is located on the same quay and a few meters from the Arthur-Rimbaud Museum. The link between these two complementary establishments is embodied by the poem-chairs by Quebec artist Michel Goulet, entitled L'Alchimie des Ailleurs. The Maison des Ailleurs was created in a building where one of the apartments was inhabited by the Rimbaud family in the 19th century. Arthur Rimbaud's mother, Vitalie Rimbaud (née Cuif), and her children lived there from 1869 to 1875. The Rimbaud family lived on the first floor, in a 120-square-meter apartment. Arthur Rimbaud was aged between 15 and 21 at the time. This was the most creative period of his life in terms of his literary work, but it was also the one in which he ran away from home on numerous occasions. It was a period of adolescence, of rejection of family life and the social constraints that his mother wanted him to respect, of disgust with the town of Charleville and of dreams of other horizons.
