We stopped in to sample of of their olive oil. We were served up a 'flight' of six different kinds of olive oil along with bread. Our server took the time to explain the different olive oils that we would be sampling, and she was kind enough to answer all of our questions regarding the process of making olive oil. It was a very fun and relaxing afternoon.
During our 3 weeks in Portugal the dining experience here is by far the best ever. Each dish surpassed the previous one and led to the most amazing dessert ever. Cannot recommend highly enough.
One of the best meals we had in Portugal and a Michelin restaurant. As expected for a winery, the wine pairing was great with a combination of both commercial and experimental wines. Nevertheless, the star of the meal is definitely the food. It is just outstanding with every single dish being exceptionally tasty and well balanced made with local ingredients and flavours.
Great dining experience! We went to both the bar side and the restaurant to have lunch within 2 days. First day we arrived, was told that electricity was out because of the storm. The bar food was great! And the receptionist was very helpful to help us to book another restaurant. The next day we went back for the real lunch. Fantastic experience. We chose the 7 moments menu. Most of the dishes were fantastic (towards the strong taste side - great for wine pairing). The only one dish I wasn’t sure was the fish liver, which has super strong taste. We on top also got one wine pairing and one natural drinks menu. The olive oil they offered were super delicious! We bought a couple of bottles back home.
We had an unforgettable experience dining at Esporão today. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed — not only by the attentive and well-informed staff, but also by the breathtaking setting. The views over the reservoir and vineyards are absolutely stunning and set the tone for a relaxed, elevated meal. The wine selection was outstanding — thoughtfully curated and deeply connected to the region, with excellent recommendations from our knowledgeable server. As for the food: it was truly remarkable. Each dish was creative, beautifully presented, and full of depth — a perfect blend of innovation and respect for Alentejo’s culinary heritage. Every bite felt like a celebration of local flavor, reimagined in a modern and thoughtful way. We were especially appreciative of how inclusive and welcoming the staff were. We were joined by friends who had a certified service dog, and we were made to feel completely comfortable dining indoors. The team handled everything with kindness and professionalism, which, unfortunately, is not always the case in Portugal — but Esporão absolutely sets the gold standard here. This was not just a meal — it was an experience, and one we’ll remember for a long time. Highly recommended.
Impressive and unforgettable experience, from the food to the staff to the environment, everything was thought carefully and adjusted to perfection. We got the 7 menu food and wine, and we went through a journey of experiences with it, one better than the other. Well done Esporão!
I loved the service, the experience and the setting. We’ve been several times (we visit every time we go to Portugal) even before it was a Michelin ⭐️ I actually loved the vibe before the ⭐️ , but continue to enjoy and appreciate the creativity of the chef in the use of a local food. We had the seven moments with a wine pairing, highly recommend!
Did wine bar and biological wine from this winery. Drawn here by its association with Monte Velho. Liked the tinto reserve at Dom Feijoa.

Igreja Matriz de Santo António Type: church Time spent: 10 min Parking: available Location: Liberdade Square in Reguengos de Monsaraz Its historical roots date back to 1887, when the Reguengos Parish Council decided to build a church closer to the new Town Hall. The project was done by an architect António José Dias da Silva, author of the Campo Pequeno Bullring. Works were finished in 1912. The church is shaped like a Latin cross and has a bell tower in the middle of the facade. It one of the best examples of neo-Gothic churches in Portugal.

Built in the 16th century, it impresses with its simple but elegant architecture, typical of the religious buildings of that time in Portugal. Particularly noteworthy is the white limestone that was used not only for the construction of the church but also for the entire town of Monsaraz, which gives the town its characteristic appearance. We went with a small group of friends and family, visiting wineries in the region from a base in Evora. This place specializes in classic wines aged in clay amphora, seriously Old School. The tour of the winery was very nice and fun, and tasting after was great. We all enjoyed trying the wines and the people were sincerely welcoming and hospitable.
Our experience at Adega José de Sousa was unfortunately disappointing. We had called ahead to check whether it would be possible to visit the estate and buy some Portuguese wines before leaving the country, with one clear condition: we needed to taste the wines before deciding what to purchase, given how broad their offering is and the large quantities I was expecting to purchase ( usually around 3 to 5 boxes ) . Over the phone, we were told this would be possible as long as we could come before 7:00 pm — so we decided to make the detour. Upon arrival at 6:00 pm, we were greeted by a very young staff member who led us straight to the wine shop and handed us a price list for wine tasting by the glass, with over ten options. I explained that this was not at all what I had anticipated based on the previous call, and that we weren’t looking to drink a large amount of wine, but simply to taste and decide. She then told us it was possible to try small sips of what was available, which seemed more in line with our expectations. However, she brought out three red wines straight from the fridge — all served extremely cold, which made it impossible to properly appreciate their qualities. All in all, the setup felt unsuitable for anyone genuinely interested in tasting before buying. The tasting options are too expensive and the wine is served in inappropriate conditions (temperature and quantity). It’s a beautiful house, but not adapted to casual, customer-focused wine tasting
This winery has a long tradition in wine production. In addition to a shop where they sell all the wines they produce, they also organize guided tours of the winery, where you can see the entire wine-making process. To book a visit, you should call the winery directly. The winery has its own parking lot.
We had the pleasure to visit there this weekend. The tour and the guide was fantastic. We went through the whole process from grapes to bottle, visited the cellar with aging clay pot wines and finished off the tour with tasting their delicious wines. Definitely will visit again and suggest to friends. Also this adega is in the town centre, so no need to drive anywhere if staying in the town. Super tour!
Fantastic experience and very educational tour. Lovely wines and just fabulous atmosphere Thank you Luica
Great experience, very interesting explanations and of course, good wines. Cheers!
I came here with a group of friends to taste some wine however we got so much more! They showed us around and taught us about how the wine is made, including their traditional clay pot wine. The woman was excellent. Very friendly and knew a lot about everything. Wine tasted superb too and not badly priced. Highly recommend !
An Amazing history about excellence and traditional wine making. We did a full tour with wine tasting and it's worth every penny The staff is amazing and they are fully committed into your experience. A most do!

Great experience not only with wine tasting also sharing a lot of information on wine making process.
Your Reguengos wine is a real pleasure with very acceptable price. I live in Bordeaux ( France) and discovered your wine in Luso portuguese merchant here. Thank you for your work !
Unfortunately, this a more a wine factory than a winery. With so many cooperative members, it is difficult to ensure quality. If you want exceptional wine, go to Evora and visit Cartuxa.

My husband, 7yo daughter, and I went here in February. Our experience was wonderful and truly memorable. The (Meadow) cottage, the grounds, the food, the activities, and especially the people - all were amazing and made for a one-of-a-kind holiday. We felt very welcomed and, well, special because of the attention the staff pays to their guests. And the property/land itself is gorgeous. I have already recommended this hotel and will continue to do so, and we hope to return very soon.
amazing property with stunning gardens and large rooms. The restaurant is good quality food as well as the rooms. They are large and have good bats. I was missing the personal touches like art and decoration. It felt a little bit empty. They have a good bath and pressure on the shower was really good. They have nice vegetable and fruit gardens as well as two pools although the pools are not heated which is unfortunately for Portugal's weather it means you cannot swim most of the year cause it's too cold. I would recommend heating the pools at to 28-29 degrees. staff is super friendly and helpful and to see the same faces over and over again most of the staff works here for a long time so like the massage therapist, we had worked there for nine years as well as the host worked there for six or seven years. it means the atmosphere is very good under the team and a very loyal, and that shows in the surface. Definitely a recommendation to go to
A beautiful location and the most attentive and well mannered staff. Great food and wine experiences with so much to do as a couple or family. We will be back
Fascinating hotel complex in Monsaraz. We took a fun hot air balloon ride around the surrounding vineyards and olive groves, and also rode horses around the estate. Everything about this place is splendid. Mind you, it’s more earthy than fancy, but a very special place to explore.
A True Gem in Alentejo: São Lourenço do Barrocal São Lourenço do Barrocal is a masterpiece of hospitality, nestled in the heart of Alentejo, Portugal. The restaurant is a cozy haven, offering exquisite local cuisine that embodies the true spirit of farm-to-table dining. The staff are not only knowledgeable about the menu but also fun and engaging, making every meal a memorable experience. The project's unique approach to sustainability and local sourcing is truly commendable, providing guests with an authentic taste of Alentejo's rich heritage. The property's redevelopment is a testament to impeccable taste, preserving the essence of the old while introducing modern comforts. The rooms are marvelously decorated with an understated yet charming local flair, ensuring a comfortable and serene stay. Each detail, from the décor to the amenities, reflects a deep respect for the region's culture and history. São Lourenço do Barrocal is more than just a hotel; it's an immersive experience that connects guests with the natural beauty and traditions of Alentejo. Whether you're looking for tranquility, adventure, or simply a place to unwind, this hotel offers it all with grace and warmth. It is truly a one-of-a-kind destination that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
A special place in a wonderful country. Their estate grown and created wines and olive oils are a must. If you're going to Portugal, do yourself a favor and spend a few days here.
We loved our stay at the são lourenço do barrocal. There were family activities and the accommodation suited our family and made us feel comfortable. Every room is different in its own way. There are swift and swallow nests everywhere. The children’s activities were splendid. They learned about birds and made bird boxes and did horse riding and horse grooming. We also did a spectacular boat ride with the guide taking us to gold island. The guide also said about the turtles in spring and the wild boars roaming the shore. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and I highly recommend it. The barbecue dinner was outstanding and the breakfasts amazing. Overall a world class place and well worth any visit any time
We just checked out of São Lourenço do Barrocal and had a genuinely enjoyable stay—the property is stunning, peaceful, and beautifully preserved. That said, for the price and its 5-star ambitions, several aspects fell short. The estate is well-staffed, and everyone we encountered was friendly and polite. However, service lacks the polish and speed expected at this level. Staff operate strictly within their roles at their own pace and rarely anticipate guest needs, resulting in a service style that feels functional rather than intuitive. We stayed in both a two-bedroom cottage and, for our final night, a courtyard room. We preferred the courtyard room, which had a larger bedroom and bathroom with double sinks and a rainfall shower. The cottage bathroom was small and only had a handheld shower. While the cottage offered ample space, it felt sparse and cheaply-furnished—disappointing given the premium pricing. Both rooms featured whitewashed walls, which are visually striking but impractical—just brushing against them leaves white dust on clothing, especially frustrating when wearing dark colors. The granite pool is a highlight. On arrival, an attendant brings a welcome basket with water, cool towels, and face mist—a lovely gesture. Unfortunately, the attentive poolside service stops there. There are no menus, no option to order food to your lounge chair, and every drink order requires a signed bill—even if you’re wet. When we asked to run a tab, we were told it wasn’t allowed. The restaurant beside the pool stops serving food at exactly 3:00 p.m., and won’t take orders after that. To eat, you must leave the pool and sit at a table. One afternoon I missed the cutoff and was told to return to my room to order from room service—which, inconveniently, could not be delivered to the pool. For a property at this price point, the service should be seamless. São Lourenço do Barrocal has the setting and spirit of a world-class retreat, but the execution still needs refinement.

(Original) Foi uma visita muito boa, gente de uma grande humildade, uma visita para voltar a repetir num futuro próximo e o vinho grande reserva desta herdade é top dos tops muito bom, mesmo muito bom

Great prehistoric site.
Interesting rocks scattered across the country side.
Another wonderful menir to visit in the area of Monsaraz. I visited this menir in November, 2017 while on my bicycle tour of Portugal.
Accessible via a dirt road for non-4wheel drive cars as well (except after heavy rains). One of the largest of the Iberian peninsula.
One stone, rough dirt road to get there
A "nicely shaped" menhir in the middle of nowhere! :D
Worth going, if you considered it, you should go, if possible.
