Mountain peak
Nature & Parks
This alpine destination with a scenic tramway ride is popular for skiing, hiking & paragliding.
Slide 1 of 8
One of the most breathtaking hikes I have ever done. The mountain is near a town called Fussen and it borders Austria. It is very steep just to let you know but well worth it for the experience and the views!
Might be a bit unfair not to give it 5 stars, but I can't tell you much about the views, because we were in a cloud 🤷🏻‍♀️ the trails were not the great and bordering on dangerous, so make sure to wear proper footwear and warm clothes, even in juli the clouds are cold. Great place to take nature photos, and there are several ways to reach the top, from cable car, trekking or climbing.
Here’s a detailed look at some of the most popular trails: 1. Tegelberg Panorama Trail (Panoramaweg) • Difficulty: Easy • Distance: 1.7 km • Duration: 30-45 minutes This is a short, easy hike that offers stunning views of the surrounding Bavarian Alps, Neuschwanstein Castle, and the Hohenschwangau area. Starting at the mountain station of the Tegelbergbahn cable car, the trail loops around the summit, allowing you to take in the breathtaking scenery with minimal effort. This trail is suitable for families, older adults, and those looking for a leisurely walk. 2. Tegelberg Summit Trail (Gipfelweg) • Difficulty: Moderate • Distance: 2.3 km • Duration: 1-1.5 hours This trail starts at the Tegelbergbahn mountain station and leads to the summit of Tegelberg at 1,881 meters. This trail is moderately challenging, with a steady incline, but the effort is well-rewarded with panoramic views from the summit. It’s a great choice for those who want to experience the alpine environment without embarking on a long hike. 3. Königliche Jagdweg (Royal Hunting Trail) • Difficulty: Moderate • Distance: 9 km • Duration: 3-4 hours This trail follows the historic route used by Bavarian kings during their hunting expeditions. It starts near the base station of the Tegelbergbahn and winds through dense forests, meadows, and pastures. The trail offers a mix of shaded areas and open vistas, with occasional views of Neuschwanstein Castle. 4. Tegelberg Ridge Trail (Gratweg) • Difficulty: Hard • Distance: 7 km • Duration: 3-4 hours This is one of the most challenging routes on Tegelberg. It follows a narrow ridge from the mountain station to the summit, offering spectacular views but requiring a good head for heights and surefootedness. The trail is steep and rocky in sections, making it suitable for experienced hikers. The rewards include stunning vistas over the Ammergau Alps and the surrounding valleys. 5. Tegelberg Base to Summit Trail (Aufstieg zum Tegelberg) • Difficulty: Hard • Distance: 4.5 km one way • Duration: 2-3 hours This trail starts at the Tegelbergbahn base station and ascends directly to the summit. The path is steep and challenging, passing through dense forests and rocky terrain. It’s a demanding hike but offers a sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit. The descent can be made on foot or by taking the cable car back down. 6. Schwangau - Tegelberg Loop Trail • Difficulty: Moderate • Distance: 16 km • Duration: 5-6 hours This is a full-day loop trail that starts in the village of Schwangau, ascends to the summit of Tegelberg, and then returns via a different route. The trail takes you through a variety of landscapes, including forests, meadows, and alpine terrain.
Beautiful view when it's not foggy like it was for us. It cleared up slightly tho so still worth it. We went up using the cable car which was slightly pricey, 28.50 euros for adults for there and back, you can also hike up if you want but it will take around 3hrs and is very steep. Lots of hiking trails at the top of the mountain to do for all levels and restaurants.
Tegelberg is a beautiful mountain that offers a great aerial view of schwangau castle and surrounding scenery. A place that can do paragliding as well. Check the weather before visit, the cable car and paragliding sometimes suspended due to severe weather conditions.
There is an amazing hike from the car park at the bottom of the cable car that takes you past Neuschwanstein Castle, up to Queen Mary’s Bridge for views of the castle. Going further up the peak, there are beautiful views of Alpsee lake. The trail at some points has fallen trees and a few rocks that are awkward to pass, so be prepared to climb over (or under) one or two fallen trees! There is a pub serving food at the top by the cable car. Cable car costs approx 14€. When you get down there’s a toboggan for 4,50€.
What a view! Within one hour driving from Munich, you end up in a complete new world. Literally breathtaking (if you consider the long hiking you have to do when you want to reach the top :-))
An absolutely wonderful hike through the half snow-covered Tegelberg where we really missed having langlauf-sticks. Even though some parts felt exciting to us, the locals (two of whom slid down a ski slopes on just their 2 feet) made it seem like an easy walk instead. The views at the top make you appreciate the beauty of Austria. Mountains as far as the eye could see.

Beautiful lake and clear water. I really like it. The view is amazing. Its best to visit in summer.
It’s really nice, clean and calm. There is a camper place exactly next to the lake!
Every year in October the lake is drained and the water from Lake Forggensee is back by June 1st at the latest. The lake reaches its full water level around June 15th, so that you can only see, enjoy and experience it as a full reservoir for four to five months of the year.
An amazing place for a day trip with your family or friends. The color of the water, mountains and sky makes it close to heaven. Easy to reach, not very far from Munich. It’s actually close to the boarder of Austria. If you go there, hopfensee and Lechfall is also recommended to visit. Hopfensee: specially for the sunset. Overall, it’s one of the most beautiful view I have ever seen in Bavaria till now.
Absolutely stunning. Great place for canooing or sailing or just a chill day at the shore
It's the best place on earth
Gorgeous lake in south Bavaria with beautiful mountain views in the back and clean waters! Indeed a great place to enjoy a relaxing walk!
Very nice place with a great view of Alps.. Recommended for a nice walk around the lake during winter time and obviously to swim during summer time 🏔 🌊

Majestic baroque church in pastoral surrounds, with an ornate stucco chapel & painted alter.
Slide 1 of 8
St. Coloman Church is a serene and picturesque spot nestled in the Bavarian countryside. The baroque architecture is beautiful, but it’s the panoramic views around the church that truly stand out. Surrounded by rolling fields and the majestic Alps, it’s a peaceful place for a stroll or photos. Stunning views towards the Neuschwanstein castle. A must-see for those exploring the Schwangau area, especially on a clear day!
Calm, peaceful and the view at its best. A picturesque place with the view of Neuschwanstein Castle amidst the Alps. ❤
Unusual place we end up..there was a wedding going on..beautiful area and you can see a famous castle from there
The most captivating aspect of this church is its picturesque setting. It stands alone in an expansive meadow, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The nearby Tegelberg mountain and the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle add to the dramatic scenery. In autumn, the fields around the church are often blanketed in mist, creating an ethereal and almost mystical ambiance. Notable trails in the area: 1. St. Coloman to Neuschwanstein Castle • Distance: 4 km one way • Difficulty: Easy to Moderate This trail takes you from the church through picturesque meadows and forests to the iconic castle. The trail is well-marked and offers breathtaking views of the castle as you approach. Along the way, you’ll also get to enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding Alps and Hohenschwangau Castle. 2. Schwansee Lake Loop • Distance: 6 km • Difficulty: Easy This loop trail circles around the tranquil Schwansee Lake, located near the church. The trail is mostly flat and passes through serene woodlands and open fields. It’s a great option for a leisurely walk to take in the views of the surrounding mountains. 3. Hohenschwangau to St. Coloman • Distance: 2.5 km one way • Difficulty: Easy This short, easy trail connects the village of Hohenschwangau with St. Coloman Church. It’s a gentle walk that passes through meadows and offers excellent views of Hohenschwangau Castle and the surrounding hills. It’s perfect for families or anyone looking for a relaxed stroll. 4. Schwangau Panoramic Trail • Distance: 7 km (4.3 miles) loop • Difficulty: Moderate This loop trail offers some of the best panoramic views of the Schwangau area, including the castles, lakes, and mountains. Starting near the church, the trail takes you through varied terrain, including fields, forests, and hilltops. The route is well-marked and provides several vantage points for photography and sightseeing.
St. Coloman is absolutely stunning! The church itself is beautiful, and the surrounding scenery is breathtaking, with the Alps providing a perfect backdrop. If you look off into the distance, you can even see the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle from afar – it’s a sight to behold! For those who don't have a car or own a vehicle, the public transport system is really convenient, making it easy to get to the area. Plus, if you’re in need of some refreshments, the nearby Rewe Supermarkt is a great stop. There's also a lovely café inside Rewe serving delicious cakes, coffee, and hot chocolate – perfect for a cozy break while enjoying the view. Highly recommend visiting!
A small beautiful church located in a very serence area with a view of the Neuschwanstein up in the mountains.
I saw this church from Neuschwanstein and went there after castle visiting. It was half hour way to walk. The view of the castle and mountains were incredible. But unfortunately church was closed;) It’s open only SUMMER!!!!!!! Didn’t know that🤦‍♂️ I got the reason come back here

Quiet little lake in the mountains. Very close to neuschwanstein castle. Favorite of king Ludwig. There is swimming here too. A little dock. Looks cold.
This lake is meant not for tourists and photos, but for a quiet walk or family picnic. You can go jogging around and even swim, as there are a few specially equipped entrances to the water. Go find pink water lilies before the sunset!
The diving platforms makes this lake much more fun !
Great walk in the nice and quite area
The place has a very relaxed and calm atmosphere. You can occassionally see family of swans in the lake. You can enjoy a picnic beside the lake or go on a paddle boat ride. This is such a wonderful place to be in and please do preserve the beauty of nature and don't leave your trash please :) You will all love it here!
It's odd that a well-known website like yours would combine images of Alpsee and Schwansee. Because of this, when users publish something here, they frequently confuse the placement of their posts. On the route from Fussen to the Hohenschwangau Castle, Schwansee is situated below the castle and is a part of Schwansee Park. What you are displaying in your main image is the Alpsee, a different lake that can be seen minutes from the tour ticket counter and close to Hohenschwangau Castle.
We went here on a bike tour with Mike's Bikes. Was a nice ride and great scenery.

Kristall-Therme in Schwangau is the perfect place to relax in any weather and for everyone. With breathtaking views of the mountains and Neuschwanstein Castle, along with excellent thermal pools and saunas, it’s a must-visit for a rejuvenating experience!
This place was amazing! Bring your swimsuit, or buy one there. Whatever you need to do, but Get There! Pools are fabulous, sauna is naked, so either skip or man up. Massages, swim up bar, bars, ice cream, etc. GO!
really liked it. I have something to compare it to. The view of Neuschwanstein Castle is gorgeous. The pools have different salt percentages, you need to book them for 4 hours. I didn't go to the sauna because I already know everything there 🤽‍♂️We'll definitely be back. The bar has excellent cocktails.
Very comfortable and completely diverse areas, a unique experience from the salt pool to the natron pools and different saunas, I loved the relaxing cave full with amethyst and quartz, the views to the castle are definitely a top,
Lovely thermal spa with amazing views. Plenty to do, lots of little hot pools and also outdoor pools. They also have a pool bar and lovely traditional restaurant inside. We had very relaxing time.
Thermas with beautiful views of the mountains, Neue Schwanstein castle. Nice outdoor and indoor pools. Not so crowded. Cool bar inside the indoor pool. Chilled vibes. We didn’t visit the sauna cause we had little time. We considered staying longer and change the travel plans just to stay a few more hours.
It is rare for me to give a 5 star rating. Good things: -Amazing thermal spa treatments, there is a daily list of therapies to follow every half hour. They are all included in the initial fee for getting in (25 euro for 4 hours, slightly more for the full day). We thought 4 hours would be too much however it turned out time flew quicker than expected and would have been better taking the daily ticket instead -all therapies are different and offer their own experience, utilizing different methods and scents. All you have to do is follow the schedule to the dedicated room. There are several areas to the spa, it'll take you a long time to discover and understand it all (that's why it's much better to get a daily ticket) -There is a restaurant on the inside -a bar to drink from inside the pool (alcoholic and non) on stools inside the water -A cafeteria with a large variety of cakes to choose from -All decorations within the spa are incredible, starting from some of the columns covered with crystals, others made of pink, white marble. Chandeliers of fine glass work with beautiful blue colored gems, fantastic work on the staircase leading to the topper floors made of thick veiny marble. Beautiful paintings around, I was studying some for sometime. Innovative ideas for therapies in the saunas, using crystals of eucalyptus and menthol directly on the hot stones, freeing up your upper respiratory system. Salt scrubs and mud baths. Pools are available outside too and they are warm so you can relax and bathe even during the winter while snow is falling atop your head. All sauna rooms and Turkish baths are kept tidy, sanitized and clean, with beautiful decorations on the inside (they are named after the king Ludwig II and other important personalities of the time, so you'll find portraits of Cavaliers and coat of arms). -Customer service is excellent, smiling at all times and dressed impeccably -Such views from every spot that will take your breath away, there is a "panorama sauna" that offers enough space for up to 30 people if not more and a panorama over the Alps and the Neuschwanstein castle. -On the upper level you'll find another restaurant and on the terrace you'll find seating within glass vaults to enjoy the view even during super cold periods (and you're naked in there so how awesome is that?) Bad and So so things: -Upper levels are dedicated to naked people, for the ones that have problems with that and have a different mentality you'll be losing around 70% worth of your ticket fee. The best is located at the top of the complex so overcome your fears and just go. -DO CARRY YOUR TOWEL if you don't have one you'll have to borrow one from the spa and it's 3 euros per towel and a deposit of 10 euros per towel. Plan ahead of time to avoid this. -It's a very family oriented place so you'll find many kids playing around at the first level mainly. This might be annoying at some times for someone. Conclusion: This place is fantastic. I'd recommend it over and over again. The price per day is a bargain and you'll benefit a rejuvenation with a great piece of mind.
Probably the best thermal bad I have visited. For sure the best I know in Germany. Multiple saunas with different temperatures and the whole show with the pouring. The aroma sauna was wonderful. Coffee shops, restaurants, salty and regular pools (not for swimming), whirlpools and more. Incredible views and facilities. Probably even better in Sommer but it was great!

This church is definitely worth a visit. The parish of Waltenhofen was founded in 746 by St. Magnus founded. A chapel opposite the church still commemorates this event today. According to legend, Magnus hung his cross on an apple tree, marking the holy place for building the church. In the same year, 746, the first church was consecrated by Bishop Wikterp of Augsburg. The St. Tosso, Wikterp's later successor, then became Waltenhofen's first pastor. In 1721, today's high altar with the life-size statues of St. Tosso and St. Sebastian by the Füssen sculptor Anton Sturm in the church. The high altarpiece, which shows the Assumption of Mary, was created by the artist Wiederhut in 1862. The left side altar was created by Josef Stehle in 1749, the right one by Jakob Gebier in 1760. The pictures on both side altars also come from Wiederhut (1863). The crucifix from the 16th century is said to have washed ashore during a Lech flood. The pulpit dates from 1720. The pictures on the nave ceiling are by Johann Scherer (1891) and show the Annunciation of Mary, the birth of Jesus, the three kings as well as the four evangelists and six other prophets. The organ dates from 1968.

It was my first ever experience with Go karting. It was an exhilarating and fun activity that offered a perfect mix of adrenaline and competition. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced driver, it was easy to enjoy the fast-paced action as we zip around sharp corners and race against friends or family. The tracks are usually well-designed for excitement and safety, making it great for all ages.
Supermoto racing day (weekend), great weather. Lovely staff, not over priced food and drinks, ice cream, and track is great for GoKart (was there, done that, super fun) recommendation for everyone who wants to have fun weekend, teambuilding, birthday party...
Great location, great track. Employees are nice and helpful. Track is a good balance of long lines and curves although the karts could have a wee more power. Overall a great place to spend a couple of hours with a group but make sure you place a reservation as it tends to be quite busy. There is a restaurant on location.
Cool place to spend your time. Smell of fuel and burned rubber sparkle a racer inside. Nice track - open air, long enough and a variety of places to overtake. Detailed race reports let you analyze and improve the skill. Very professional and friendly staff!
I would not recommend to visit this place. The hygiene is awful and the staff rude. My helmet smelled like someone puked in it and staff does not seem to be interested in your wellbeing at all. Avoid if possible.
Nice outdoor track. You get a nice workout with all of the curves, you definitely feel it the next day 😅 Call in advance, it could get busy sometimes
In my humble opinion, one of the best place if you're near Frankfurt. The track is fantastic and kart experience is nice. The restaurant is awesome: big burgers and fantastic place.
It’s a good facility with a fun track and competent people. They have a decent bar and restaurant to chill at too. The karts were fun and the location is a short drive from Frankfurt.
