Exquisite 39m-long replica of the renowned prehistoric cave paintings of animals, found in 1940.
Slide 1 of 8
Well worth a visit, the reconstruction of the cave system is as close as most people will ever get to the real thing. Lots more than just this and some effort as gone into explaining the environment and science behind it all. Children will either love it or get bored after 10 minutes, lots in the shop for them. It's a thinkers place. And the car park is free.
You must visit this place! Truly awesome inspiring to witness this replica of the original cave. Excellent tour in English too. The guides really do inject a sense of wonder into the tour! Highly recommend this place. Photos cannot do it justice.
Well worth the visit with English spoken tour guide (24 August 1.30pm). The tour was extremely informative and inspiring. We were awestruck by the creativity of early man. We totally understand why there was a re-creation, and this did not detract from the tour.
After consulting the online site, I bought 4 tickets to view Lascaux II Cave exhibit. The online information mentioned the tour was available in 5 different languages, but we were disappointed to find out the tour was only available in French. This diminished our experience considerably. Our tour guide, although was very animated and was very expressive in his presentation making sure to engage the many school aged children in attendance. I would make the effort to see this exhibit again, if we travel to France from Vancouver, Canada. But we would ask to have a way to listen to the presentation in English.
Very interesting and informative. Our guide explained the history and theory behind the cave drawings, answered all questions with precise answers with some added humor. He also catered his explanations to the children to make sure the understood. Highly recommend.
The Smaller cave made for a more personal Lascaux experience. Our guide was charming and knowledgeable. Perhaps a few less people in the group would mean less “chatter” ! Under 20 persons, might be preferable for all. People with walkers, imbalance and hearing loss are less likely to enjoy the group experience and should be warned!
Excellent experience! Our English guide was really engaging and very informative.
We were initially unsure about the Lascaux II tour due to some underwhelming reviews mentioning restrictions like no photos and cramped conditions at the entrance and exit of the replica cave. However, we were pleasantly surprised by our experience—it was truly worth it. We joined the English-speaking group led by the excellent guide, Ludivine, who went above and beyond to make the tour memorable. Unlike typical guides who simply recite dates and state ‘dry’ facts, Ludivine engaged us with her improvisation and interactive style. She is a very good storyteller. Even our kids found the tour captivating; it was far from boring and truly entertaining. Leaving the caves, we couldn't stop discussing about our impressions from the tour/ And the facts we learned - first humans in Europe, ochre -manganese paintings, tarpans, lions, aurochs, symbols, fragility of limestone caves, etc. Definitely recommend

Absolutely breathtaking. Yes, this cave, Lascaux 4, is a replica of the original. This is due to all the damage the tourism industry caused to the original cave. This replica is incredibly immersive, however. You climb up to the cave, then walk down into it. It is chilly and dark. Guides treat it as if you are in the real caves, and ask visitors to not take photos or touch anything. This is a great way to teach people how to respect real caves in the future so we don't degrade them the way the original Lascaux was. The English guide was passionate and excited about prehistoric art and Lascaux. He brought the cave to life with his voice. When you exit, you enter Lascaux 3 where you are allowed to take pictures to your hearts content. There are also two cinemas. One of them is exclusively in French, however, and it also may give you vertigo. I had to leave just a minute into the showing. Lascaux 2 is up the hill from here, but I don't think it is necessary, as it is an even more incomplete replica than Lascaux 4 or 3. It would be best to plan to spend 4 hours here.
Just an amazing experience. It really feels like you're in the cave, and yet at the same time I am so glad that they have sealed off the real cave to preserve it. Our guide was very informative, and the design of the museum surrounding the cave is stunning and takes incredible advantage of the natural setting.
It's a shame we can't go to the original cave, as it needs to be preserved against humidity. However the Lascaux IV cave is an exact copy of the original. The whole setup of the complex is amazing with excellent descriptions and information about the cave and its drawings. The only downside is the carpark is a fair distance away from the complex.
Impressive Museum In order to preserve the original cave, the French government approved 40 or 50 years ago to seal the real cave and do other caves that are re-enactment of the original. This strategy is a must in order to preserve this historical treasure. The site you visit is actually really good and literally a perfect copy. It is well worth it and is very informative, both explaining the discovery of the site and the creation of it. It is one of the best 3 palaeontological sites in Europe. Obviously super worth it!
Fantastic experience - the reproduction of the cave is very good and accessible for all. Our English guided tour by Celia was excellent and well paced. The museum was very informative with good use of technology to bring the cave and its history to life.
Absolutely amazing. Even though you can not visit the original caves the replica gives you and incredible opportunity to view the paintings in a protected environment.
An absolutely mind boggling exhibit! Have known about the Lascaux cave art for decades, but was visiting friends nearby, so took the opportunity to visit. So glad we did. The tour guide was passionate and knowledgeable. The little snack bar/café had a tasty selection of food and snacks. Very much worth the visit.
Was blown away by the quality of the reconstruction!! What an exceptional way to both preserve the actual images and make an amazing learning experience available to the public. Will return for a second visit later this week.

Very interesting, even our 5yr old grandson loved it as it was an exploration adventure
Good afternoon out for kids. Walk through woods with dinosaurs in strategic places! Walk is quite hilly and a bit bumpy if you have a pushchair. My 5 yr old loved it. Limited food options but good quality and shop small but again, has good gifts available. Good shaded picnic tables. Good visit.
Great outdoors Park. Climbing courses are well separated into experience levels. The instructors were patient and friendly. Their level of English could be a little better. Kids and I enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Fascinating place and not too busy! Swimming in the river at nearby Payzac was fun too!
Amazing! Lots of steps though
Very worth a visit

A wonderful campsite on the bank of the Vezere almost in the delightful village of St Lyon sur Vesere and only a short distance from the cliff dwellings at La Roche St Christophe. The camping sites are flat and well placed and the bathrooms are modern and clean. The village is very pretty with an impressive Romanesque church. One of our favorite spots so far.
Beautiful and at the same time very close to the village. Individual camping-places are rather big and the closeness to the Vézère makes it feel natural. It it is very simple though, but if one doesn't mind, it is definitely worth visiting.
No frills camping next to Vézère river. Better call and reserve your spot even if it's just a municipal camping. Children like it too when they are swimmers. It's a canoe station so expect some boat handling in the high season in the morning.
Very pleasant situation as long as you can get a pitch with good shade (we did), on the banks of the Vezere and close to the village. Main downside is the proximity of a large dechetterie just the other side of the fence, resulting in swarms of flies which made some mealtimes unbearable in hot weather. Also having to buy jetons for the showers is antiquated and very irritating, especially as a dodgy timer can result in the hot water turning off when you are still well-soaped/shampooed.
Super small Campsie overlooking the river Vezere with adjoining aire for motor homes. Small shop and a few restaurants. Not far from Montignac with all its facilities.
A very nice XII century church, surrounded by some beautiful buildings and flowers. The fresco inside is worth seeing and the shape and design of the building are quite different and attractive.
Peaceful yet close to the village. Best to pre book in the summer as it is cheap and popular. Plenty of places to eat nearby.
Prototype of a romanesque village church in beautiful setting.

We had a helloween night visit. It was really well made. Lots of actors and nice decorations.
Quite an interesting and atypical chateau to visit. It was in ruins (no roof, doors or windows, plaster falling on tractors parked there) and 30 years ago the present owner bought and restored it. He is a passionate collector of a range of antiquities, from flint knives to Egyptian artifacts to Greek sculptures, and the rooms have a quirky range of furniture as well as historical paintings. There is also a "cabinet of curiosities" with an amazing insect collection (insects were collected in the 1860's) as well as many other oddities. If you chance to see the owner, he is full of information and delights in talking about his collections and chateau. Well worth a detour.
Well worth a detour to visit this charming chateau but don't turn up early, although, like us you may be greeted by the owner. It's in a wonderful setting and you can even stay here as a treat.
This castle, located halfway between Terrasson and Montignac, at first glance looks ‘a bit off’. Information panels inform you about the bad state it was in when the current owner (a well known French TV personality) found it. Clearly he spend a small fortune to restore the roofs, chimneys, and opening the closed-up windows. It seems there was just not enough budget left for the finishing touches. We walked through the showcase rooms and found some interesting pieces of antique and curiosity, but again some of the furniture and furnishings seem awkwardly misplaced. We had finished most of the self-guided tour when a large 17th century painting in the ‘Oberkampf room’ caught our eye. It depicts the African Maria over seeing a battle field (probably in present day Tunisia) between Christian and ‘Turkish’ forces. The Turks carrying their flag with ‘crescents’ , the information materials explained it was this battle that inspired French bakers to produce their ‘eat the Turks’ ‘croissants’... So far the experience would have hardly warranted ‘3 stars’, but just before the exit into the shop, there is a stair (on the right behind doors) going down to the basement. The vaulted spaces are the oldest surviving parts of the castle and harbor a great surprise. A very large collection of (pre)historic materials, the core of the collection dating back to a time before the ‘prehistory’ was actually recognized. If you visited the sites around Les Eyzies-de-Tayak, read a little and received a passionate introduction to the ‘history of this history’ (Laugerie-haut), a lot starts to fall in place here… It is quite unbelievable how early ‘treasure hunters’ went about ‘excavating’, ‘finding’ and ‘taking away’. In the process distributing/dispersing/disturbing materials. The collection on display is truly spectacular in size and scope, a couple of objects from about every dig between here and Bordeaux! And many objects are truly amazing works of art; carved bones and statuettes, even an oil-lamp from Lascaux cave…these are not the ‘crumbs that fell of the table’. It really makes you wonder what else was carted-off and disappeared into dusty drawers without even the most basic documentation. At least this collection is open to the public, though you need to ‘chance-upon-it’. Good to read there are students from all over the world visiting and studying these objects. They are sure worth it. To be clear; I do not blame the owners for the cavalier methods of the past, in a way the collection is as much (modern) history as the objects on display. Thought provoking.
Amazing pool area, perfect for an after wedding pool party. Rooms are great as well, really gives you the castle feeling
Very interesting visit of the XVIIth century castle and the huge prehistoric collection Moreover the owner of the castle is very warm and is providing passionate explanations We recommend this visit for adults and children as well
Difficulties with payment, but interesting collection

Wonderful place to visit with beautiful sights, they recently built ow new constructions at the back ot the main building. Which was why it's good to have the guided tour to explain the details, we even went through the archives (see photos) very interesting. The shop closed by the time we finished the tour... The people are very friendly and polite.
A Truly Enriching Experience This is a wonderful place to visit, filled with beautiful sights and a serene atmosphere. The recent additions behind the main building make it even more special—having a guided tour was invaluable for understanding the history and significance of the space. We even had the chance to explore the archives (see photos!), which was fascinating. Unfortunately, the shop had already closed by the time we finished, but the warm and polite staff more than made up for it. The entire place radiates a special energy, lovingly maintained by dedicated people, and offers a genuine connection to Tibetan Buddhism. Every visit leaves me uplifted—I’m always happy to return.
A place that is imbued with amazing energy, cared for by great people and where one can be in touch with authentic Tibetan Buddhism. I am always happy when I can visit this place.
Excellent Buddhist temple. They were mostly closed for the pandemic but I've been going there for more than 20 years and they have been working on improving the place, the teachings and the hospitality experience for the better.
Beautiful serene place Shop opens at 15h- 18h
Such a peaceful place of intense wisdom, within nature and your own.

We take a few small roads, but once at the top, the welcome is super nice, the shop offers quality products at attractive prices! Their walnut oil is particularly aromatic and definitely worth a try.
