Located in the heart of Montignac, right on the banks of the Vézère river, Aux Berges de la Vézère is a delightful restaurant and pizzeria that offers a relaxed dining experience. The establishment boasts a beautiful shaded terrace and a panoramic dining room with stunning views. The chef, who is part of prestigious culinary associations, takes great care to ensure that guests enjoy locally sourced French cuisine and delicious pizzas.
You can really tell that love and passion went into creating and preparing these dishes. The food was wonderful, despite not being my typical flavours, I would change some things but not about how they make it, I just don't like some ingredients and that me being difficult. We recommend to anyone in the area!

We ate here for my parents anniversary and enjoyed a lovely lunch. The staff were friendly and helpful and there was a variety of dishes to satisfy a group of 8 with differing tastes. We couldn’t book a table in advance so had to queue and wait for the restaurant to open. It is very popular and so if you have a larger group you need to arrive at midday if you want to get a table. Overlooks the river and lots of parasols to provide shade on a hot day!
Kate T — Google review
DELICIOUS menu, very fair prices for the original, super quality of food and wine, delightful view overlooking the river with the option of eating on the refreshing terrace. And most of all the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Roberto S — Google review
Lovely food - superb wine (a local producer recommendation) great friendly service

Had a lovely meal, lucky enough to get a window table looking over La Vézère river as the sun set. Had the slow cooked lamb and the deboned rabbit main meals. Beautifully tender meat in both dishes accompanied by a glass of red wine ❤️

Very nice experience. The suggested dish was excellent. Friendly atmosphere. Nice views.

Beautiful setting on the river with a lovely view of the bridge. The serving staff are very helpful and helped me with my very limited French. The food is superbly presented and doesn’t let you down on flavour. They have a good selection of beer and wine.

Was a good decision to come here after having visited Lasceaux. Good food, service and beautiful location when sitting in the garden next to the riverside We had burger, wrap and beef tartar and my favorite, the cafe gourmand (coffee with small versions of various deserts.
Christoph O — Google review
A great lunch next to the river. Friendly service. The burger was fabulous and the tuna was cooked to perfection.
Helen E — Google review
First we went inside to ask if we could have diner (it was 18.35), the answer was yet at 19.00. Then we decided to stay for a drink. When it was 19.00 we asked for a table (in the empty restaurant), then the answer was that they were full (reservations). So this is very bad client management. We then went to the restaurant next to them, this was very good! When we walked by this restaurant afterwards it was half empty. Disappointing.
Mario S — Google review
We found this place to escape a deluge of heavy rain and had lunch. Even though the rain was heavy we could sit outside in a marquee overlooking the river. The staff were considerate ensuring our table was moved away from rain splatter and went to great lengths to ensure we were comfortable. It seemed to be a place frequented by local people which is always reassuring when frequenting a restaurant. The staff were very attentive, polite and seemed to appreciate our custom. We had the tuna tartar with French fries and the king prawns flambée which was served on a bed of tagliatelle which was an unusual accompliment. This was followed by a double espresso. The food was good honest fayre and served by considerate and professional staff. For a place called Le Flannagan's in France, it was a pleasant surprise and we would definitely return.
Helen — Google review
Very nice location on the river bank with lots of shade. Little light on staff though, resulting in dirty tables and low attention.
Mathis V — Google review
Had a great meal here during the Salle De Fetes on Wednesday. Live Jazz music in the bar, accompanied by a lovely meal and prompt service. Felt like a valued customer and the ambience was fantastic with the live music and a seat on the terrace alongside the river. Food was cooked perfectly. A memorable experience from my holiday.
Neil F — Google review
Very friendly and polite waiters, and the location by the water is lovely. The food is not super. Everything tastes reheated in the microwave. The sides (potatoes with the confit de canard for example) were still cold in the center. Better to substitute with french fries.

Restaurant
Hostellerie La Roseraie is a charming 19th-century guesthouse located in Montignac, offering elegant rooms and a range of amenities. The hotel features a wine bar, restaurant serving inventive cuisine with a focus on local produce, and an outdoor pool for relaxation. Situated near Vezere Valley, the property provides easy access to attractions such as Le Thot and Lascaux IV - The International Centre for Cave Art.
Located right on the banks of the Vézère River, it offers a rare blend of tranquility, privacy, and vibrant atmosphere—all within walking distance of the town’s main attractions. The hotel’s architecture and decor are a visual treat. Whether you’re enjoying the peaceful garden, relaxing on the terrace, or simply taking in the ambiance, there’s a strong sense of history and charm throughout. One of the highlights for us were the common areas next to the rooms with beautiful furnishing and bookshelves. The hotel offers a thoughtfully curated collection of books in French, German, and English, including for kids —perfect for winding down in the evenings or on a quiet afternoon indoors after visiting the Lascaux caves

Beautiful charming old building, beautiful garden near the river, comfortable beds, friendly staff, nice swimming pool. A lovely town, wish we could have stayed an extra night to explore the very pretty village
Sally C — Google review
We spent a week at this gorgeous hotel and enjoyed every minute. The building oozes charm and character, and the gardens make you feel like you’ve stumbled into a secret paradise. It is a very relaxing place to stay. The service throughout is professional, warm and friendly. We felt very well looked after by everyone. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The aircon worked perfectly and was doing some heavy lifting in the 40 degree heat! There were plenty of places to park the car around the hotel, and it is very well situated for exploring Montignac on foot. The breakfast offers a really good and varied spread of treats with the little walnut cakes being a particular highlight. We had dinner in the restaurant twice and were delighted on each occasion by the delicious food we ate. It’s amazingly good value and incredibly fresh and tasty. They also make a cracking G&T.

We stayed in the self-catering villa, which is tastefully restored timber framed, 1st and 2nd floor on top of a stone ground floor. We'll equipped and very comfortable. There are a lot of stairs, so if you are forgetful, like me, you will get fit nipping up and down stairs for car keys and the like! You have access to the hotel pool and excellent restaurant. The proprietors were very helpful and pleasant.

This hotel is very convenient for all the village/town has to offer. The hosts are very welcoming, the staff very attentive and the grounds are excellent and well maintained. The pool and surrounding area is most relaxing. We stayed 2 nights for the sportive and dined in the hotel, for us we would definitely stay here again and would try the restaurants in the village as we had lunch out which was very enjoyable.

Fantastic. This place is owned and run by two young brothers. They do everything themselves and they do it very, very well. The bar has a great pavement café and a small downstairs area. Upstairs is beautiful with sofa's looking over the river and town. The duck was great as was the rosé wine. I'm ashamed I can't speak French, but these guys even become translators. Beautiful setting right by the river popular with locals and visitors alike. Gets busy so you might have to book though they seated 2 of us without. The food is excellent and the salads especially worth the visit on their own.

Great food in beautiful surroundings overlooking the river. The steak tartare was huge, with a great salad and crispy fries. Very busy but the staff were friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a visit.

Wow! Such a cute restaurant with beautiful river views on the back terrace. We ordered tomato and bocconcini salad with pizza and both were excellent. The portions are large.

Popped in for lunch for a pizza. Thin and crispy homemade dough base and many choices of toppings in a friendly river side café.

We found this spot while roaming the town of Montignac, its menu looked the best with its variation and pricing. It's by the river with great views and summer vibe when visiting in the summer. They are a family run restaurant with limited staff but they all work extremely hard. We were greeted very warmly for being outsiders and seated immediately. The waitress was amazing and spoke to us very politely inspite of our language barrier. We ordered 2 Pizza's and a pasta. Mind you, you have to be patient as the food does take some time to come, but it's worth the wait. The food tasted amazing and fresh. Had great flavouring and they also offered us chilli oil and tobassco. We also ordered dessert which was sorbet, creams with fruit and Profito rolls, these to amazed us and we loved every bite. I wish I could give more then 5 stars because they deserve it. Keep up the good work.

La Chaumiere is a charming restaurant known for its warm and friendly atmosphere, offering a rich variety of dishes including specialties from the Perigord region as well as mountainous regions like Savoie and Jura. The menu features an array of options such as salads, tartines, confit de canard, raclette, and tartiflette. The establishment prides itself on serving generous portions at reasonable prices.
Everything was delicious! We took the menu with the cuisse, and the cassoulet as a single dish. Their house wine from chateau du Roy was amazing. The waitress was attentive and nice even if she didn't seem so warm at first. Really enjoyed our evening here. Would come again 100%. Their hours differ according to season and not open as often during off season so best to call or check their posted hours. When we traveled though in April, many restaurants were closed several days a week, even though Google maps here said they were open.

Northern influences with fondues and melted cheese dishes with cured meats. All delicious with nice wines and artisan ice creams.
Julie E — Google review
A bit disappointed. We reserved the day before, arrived on time for early dinner service and there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant at that point. We were told that there was only 1 portion left of duck confit (strange since this is the dish for this region), another main dish is sold out and several other main course items require ordering a day in advance. With these constraints, we took the last duck confit and it was good. And 2 portions of cassoulet. These were severely over-cooked (the top was burned and there was no sauce left to be seen at the bottom of the bowl. The beans were like a dry paste) we could not finish. The cold cut platter as an appetizer was good and generous and the ice cream was good. All in all it was not what we had expected and we will eat somewhere else next time we're in the region.

We we not staying in the hotel, we eat in the restaurant (on 6 October 2019). The food was reasonable for the cost, but there were many more 'extras' than is the norm with French fixed price menus. However, the service was terrible and so impersonal; no aperitifs offered, an unengaged waiter and no ambiance or feeling of being wanted as a customer. A great indication of this is that despite the restaurant having just being my wife and I on our table, one other couple and a man eating alone the waiter asked when bringing each course which was for which of us. We eat quickly, didn't order any wine (that's a first!) and left.
Stuart T — Google review
Very nice place, fantastic Easter lunch, nice rooms just lacking a better TV with more international programs. We really enjoyed our stay, and the staff were more than happy to accommodate any wishes that we may have had...

Stunning Castle but the room are like a pizza oven so they leave you with a very noisy fan which keeps you awake, had the worst night sleep. The rooms are outdated with bathrooms from the 70's, no fridge in the room and they leave you a very small bottle of water for 2 for the night, avoid at all cost especially in summer!

Surprisingly quick and tasty food. Service is relatively fast and competent as well. Prices are a bit high but it's not anywhere near as bad as the Google ratings suggest.
Allan H — Google review
The restaurant side is probably OK, but given we didn't want a big lunch we chose the café, which was a big mistake as it is very disappointing for a visitor attraction of this calibre. It is unclear that you have to order food at the counter (even though there is table service for drinks) and the food is over priced and almost inedible - €6.90 for a soggy half warmed chicken wrap in a bit of paper, no plate, no salad garnish. To top it off, an establishment that is about preserving the environment (or at least the historical part of it) only provides in their café single use plastic cutlery and fries served in a plastic box - clearly they don't care too much about the future environment.
Damian B — Google review
We got there toward the end of the typical lunch time and the waiter initially tried to ignore us and remained surly. Food was OK but the sardines came in the tin instead of on a plate. Kind of off-putting.

And, unlike restaurants and cafés in town, this restaurant is open all day. What a relief to be able to eat at 2:30 pm after the tour! Regional cuisine served in a no fuss manner. The best dish was the carpaccio of pineapple dessert served with a scoop of homemade mojito ice cream!

This place was absolutely gorgeous, and we felt so welcomed and taken care of by the wonderful staff. We sat on the terrace overlooking the river and the bride which was just magical, we tried some different tapas dishes and a vegetarian noodle dish which were all super fresh and just divine! I had an amazing pet nat wine, and my friend tried a local wine recommended by the staff. Such a beautiful dining experience, would highly recommend if you're in the area! Big love and thanks from Melbourne, Australia ❤️

Visiting Quai 21 is a lovely experience. With a great terrace overlooking the river, excellent service, and an interesting menu, it's a place to visit for lunch or dinner. The tapas, served in the evening, is a great option for food that is varied and not too difficult to eat at a bar! I would definitely recommend checking out the Facebook page to see if there's any live music planned, as there's frequently an opportunity to see a wide variety of performers, both from the local area and further afield. The lounge area upstairs is cosy and warm; great for relaxing or dancing the night away. All in all, Quai 21 is a welcoming, lively environment; the perfect bar!

I have to say the service was fine, my review has nothing to do with the staff. My daughter ordered the chicken nuggets and they were lovely. My wife ordered the confit du canard which was a tad on the dry side. I order the entrecôte which was like a piece of leather, I have to say it was horrendous. On top of this we got charged €17 for a half a bottle of house red… absolutely ridiculous… stay well clear

If you're looking to "Spice it up!" during your visit to Montignac, this charming restaurant located right on the church square is a must-visit. Just a short drive from the renowned Lascaux cave, it offers an inviting atmosphere where you can indulge in a delightful array of international dishes.
The food was extremely good, an original place for a lunch, the waiters are welcoming There are different degree spices: from not to spicy to very spicy (with the homemade sauce ) .👍

Restaurant is in a pretty square, staff were very helpful, toilets very clean. Menu is interesting after 12 evenings duck 🙈 The taste was soooo good though the ratio between rice and the butter chicken (for me) or the teriyaki (for my husband) was out of proportion. Too much rice and such amount of the delicious meat.
Suzanne H — Google review
So delicious, and wonderful atmosphere! Our family visited from the US, and tried the randang and the satay (Indonesian dishes), each served with rice, salad, and kropoek (also Indonesian; shrimp crackers) all of which were delicious. The food is somehow unique and authentic at the same time, and many varieties/nationalities are represented. That salad! The randang! I can't highlight one single thing as it was all outstanding. Owner (and talented chef) Katja has lived in or visited many corners of the world, and those adventures serve as inspiration for many of the options. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The outdoor seating is in a quaint town square, beneath the clock tower and church of Montignac-Lascaux, France. Even the little bathroom is cool - entirely a beautiful mosaic surrounding done by a local artist! I would come here all the time if I could! Thank you, Katja!

With its charming stone facade, this eatery boasts a lovely terrace and an inviting upstairs dining area. The menu may be concise, but it reflects a commitment to quality with homemade dishes crafted from local ingredients.
We went here twice during our visit to lascaux. The food was very good and the couple running the restaurant were pleasant. Our kids tried duck here for the first time and really liked it! Very small restaurant but quite busy, so reservations are recommended. Translating the menu in advance is also a good idea if you don't read French.

French restaurant
Restaurant
Paradiso is a charming bistro located in the heart of the city, just a minute's walk from the Tourist Office and five minutes from Lascaux4. The restaurant features a spacious terrace away from the road and comfortable sofas for guests to relax. With a direct view into the kitchen, diners can enjoy an artistic presentation of dishes prepared by the chef. Visitors have praised the welcoming team and highlighted both the visual appeal and delicious flavors of the food.
A harmony of 'artistic' dish On July, 17th, 2018 I and my friend visited "Restaurant Montignac Bistrot Paradiso". It was almost 7 p.m. that close to dinner time in Montignac, France. A daytime lasts long in France during summer. It was a little shiny and bright day until that time. The wind blew gently relaxing tired bodies of our company. We seated and soon served. A beautiful lady owner came herself to ask us about the order. With a brief but clear explanation about the menu, we have come to understand that all dish here made of 'local' and 'organic' ingredients. It made us interesting about the dish. We choose each dish and waited. I can't still forget the smile of kindness on her face that can only be seen in a good person! I get healed. Thanks to Lady owner and handsome waiter! Each dish was so delicious. We had never experienced this collaboration of art and food before. It was so lucky to go there. When you go to see the sites in "Grotte de Lascaux"(Lascaux Cave), you should come to Restaurant Montignac Bistrot Paradiso. You will be welcomed by good lady owner, waiter and waitress. May peace be with you all in journey to Montignac.

Nestled in the charming town of Montignac, Le Relais De Montignac offers a delightful culinary experience alongside comfortable accommodations. This establishment features both a gourmet restaurant and a brasserie, catering to food enthusiasts and those seeking quick meals alike. Guests can indulge in spacious rooms with lovely views of the terrace and swimming pool, ensuring a relaxing stay while exploring the picturesque Vézère Valley. The hotel’s restaurant is particularly noteworthy, serving up regional specialties that are sure to please any palate.
I am not reviewing the hotel as I have not stayed the night there. What I am writing about is the restaurant in the hotel. I am English and have lived in this area for 20 years. My favourite meal is confit de canard, and I eat that at least once a week. Today, I thought that we should try this newly refurbished hotel as I have not eaten here for a few years. I naturally chose the confit from the menu. I also went for a glass of Pecharmant red wine to wash it all down. I can honestly say that the duck confit is the best that I have eaten in all the 20 years that I have lived here. This is now my favourite place to eat. The atmosphere is really relaxing with the tables on the outside terrace overlooking the pool. The staff are really nice and made some effort to speak English despite me speaking French. The overall feel of the whole place just oozes quality, from the cutlery on the tables to the fixtures and fittings in the ablutions. It was also very good value for money.

Restaurant: Enjoyed a very enjoyable meal at the refurbished hotel and restaurant. 39 euro set menu was great value for the quality delivered. A few blackboard specials available. The room was very bright and lacked ambience for an evening meal.

I didn’t stay at the hotel - I’m reviewing the restaurant. The meal we had here was excellent. Great food at an exceptionally good price. The service was prompt and the overall experience was very enjoyable. The only criticism would be that the dining room was a bit too bright and lacked atmosphere but don’t let that put you off from trying the food!

We would love to come back here again!

Good food (duck confit was excellent!). Decent service. Nice location near the cathedral.

Nice place in the heart of the old city of Sarlat. Nice terrace. A large choice of drinks and dishes. Very professional and kind staff. Good price. If you choose the menu, the portions are nearly half the size from the one à la carte (explained by the staff) because the menu’s price is trajet competitive for the location

After traveling in the area got to Sarlat and walk around and figures it’s time for late lunch My daughter and myself ordered burger, and while my daughter didn’t like the bun and myself I would have passed the cheese the burger itself was excellent.

Le Petit Léon is a garden restaurant located in the charming village of Saint-Leon-sur-Vezere in the south of France. The restaurant offers a fantastic dining experience with a combination of refined classic cuisine and modern techniques, focusing on local produce. Visitors praise the first-class service, attentive staff, and the ability to cater to allergies and provide gluten-free options. The chef's culinary skills are highly praised, with each dish being described as delicious and artfully presented.
Real delight, sitting outside and enjoying some scrumptious food - each course a marvellous parcel of delicate, flavoursome food, freshly and carefully prepared and presented. Best not to read the menu (but need to list all your allergies first). Waiters friendly, with sense of humour, very good and very knowledgeable about the wines and food presented. Best to come as a group to enjoy the full ambiance of the place.

Le Petit Leon is like a culinary dream. Chief Nick Honeyman combines local taste into his recipes. Each plates makes you discover new layers of taste explosion, it is like reading new exciting story. We were so happy we were able to get a table here. The food was amazing. My non-alcoholic drinks pairing was the best I've ever had at a restaurant. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Definitely worth a detour if you are in the Dordogne area.

Wonderful lunch at La Petit Leon! Each course of our 5 course meal was a delight! Highly recommend if you are able to reserve a table.

Fantastic restaurant. The food was very creative, with Asian influences on local cuisine from Dordogne. Everything was executed perfectly, the flavors were sharp, well balanced and the textures as well were always just right. The chef is terrific, but let's not forget the adorable staff, very nice and helpful. The setting is beautiful, outdoor tables with a view on a charming church from the 11th century IIRC, in great condition. A must.

Expensive but worth it as a one off blow out holiday meal. The menu is a surprise & not advertised which might not suit everyone not knowing what you are going to eat. Gluten free & nut allergy were no problem in our party of eight, the dishes were adapted accordingly. Relaxed atmosphere, food very good. We had the seven course tasting menu & the portions were good sizes. Left feeling very satisfied & full.
Christine H — Google review
Delicious, artistically-created and presented. Expensive but you get your money’s worth…great for that special occasion. Would have liked to have had better changing-out of the cutlery to handle the variety of flavors sent our way. Also we were left to use only the bread plate for the first two courses (appetizers and another). Other than that, a pro restaurant experience. Check ahead if you have a problem with seafood as all but one of the courses were seafood (which we love, but other customers may find that too much of a surprise).

We were recommended to visit this restaurant by Paul and Charlotte from Maison Montruff. What a fabulous recommendation. Our group went for the 7 options at €90 each. Not cheap but to say the food and service was first class doesn’t do it justice. The waitress Marylou was very attentive and explained each dish. I should also say that the restaurant caters for allergies and have Gluten Free options and substitutes. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If your in the area and want top quality food and service then please do visit. They will not disappoint you.

No other word than superb! Wonderful attentive staff who clearly go above and beyond to satisfy guests and give an exquisite dining experience. I had dinner here with my father, he had fillet steak and I had the trout. Both were wonderfully presented and tasted satisfyingly divine. Beautiful setting, a charming historic building in a small pretty French village. The staff warmly welcomed us and we opted to dine outside. We had the escargot to start which was delicious followed by a trout dish which was fabulous. The wine complemented the meal. The waiting service was attentive and courteous but not overwhelming in a way that only the French can achieve. We would highly recommend staying off here for a meal. We walked from the small parking area in the centre past other restaurants but this was worth persevering for and in our opinion the best offer in the area for food lovers.

Delicious burgers cooked to order and served by friendly staff. I ordered medium and it actually came out correct. The Hannibal sauce was a delicious sweet onion flavor with grilled onions still in it. It's like a home cooked burger. With fries and beer it was only €8. Seems popular with the locals. Gotta try if you visit Sarlat!

Y'know, we just were not in the mood for the local speciality of gizzards. Settled instead for burgers based off the reviews. This is street food at its best. The owner took our order and directed his customers politely to the few tables laid out on the street in front. Those in the queue had to wait, the turn around was about 20mins at 7pm. The burgers were great, moist and delicious. As we were in the street, people wandered by and definitely eying the food. Home made chips too. They took great care of us for such a simple meal that if I can return the favour just a bit via this review.

Afternoon meal Saturday. Pleasant friendly service. Large choice of sauces for the burger and chips. Small wait for order. Must be good then if that many people are ordering, but then if I wanted fast service I would have gone to McDonald's. Burger was large and tasty with fillings, chips tasty too. Will try again.

L'Auberge du Peyrol - Chez Janine is a charming restaurant nestled on a hillside in the Vezere valley, offering authentic French farmhouse cooking with a focus on local products such as poultry, pates, and soups. The atmosphere is unpretentious and reminiscent of Provencal cuisine. Guests are greeted personally by Mme Janine herself, adding to the warm and welcoming experience. The generous portions of rustic yet delicious food make it an excellent value for money.
An amazing meal in a beautiful setting! We were staying at Camping Le Paradis, about a 10 minute drive away and wanted to try authentic local cuisine somewhere not too touristy. Our experience couldn't have been more perfect. We booked for 7.30pm and arrived early which was a good job because the outdoor seating filled up quickly after we arrived and we were glad we had ordered early! All the food is cooked fresh daily by Janine, who we met when we arrived. Our waiter didn't speak much English, but with the help of Google translate, we managed to figure out the menu and inform him of my Daughter's nut allergy. There is a set menu, which everyone seemed to be going for but as we didn't want to eat foie gras we went for the a la carte. I chose the duck confit and my husband had the wild boar stew, both were served with parsley potatoes and were absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed local wine and beer and a delicious pear tart for dessert. The meal was excellent value for money and was one of the highlights of our holiday, I would highly recommend a visit!

This gem of a place is tucked away on a hillside in the Vezère valley. It's French farmhouse cooking at the top of it's game. For those of us old enough to remember, it's reminiscent of Peter Mayle's tales of Provencal cuisine in his books. Unpretentious, uncomplicated and delicious. The focus is on local products and as this is the Perigord that means poultry and hearty pates and soups. Mme Janine comes out personally greet the guests at lunch, despite her advanced years. The location is stunning in the garden under the pear trees and the views over the valley are breathtaking. The biggest suprise of all is the bill. A 5 course meal for me, a salad for my wife, wine and coffee for two came to less than €60... In fact, you know what, forget I said anything. Don't come here at all. I want to keep this little gem of a place to myself.

The one star review is for the location. That's it... This restaurant should have a separate Wikipedia page, called "how not to run a restaurant". It took 55 minutes before the ordered food was placed on our table. Small portions, price wise, and poor quality. Rotten grapes in my salad and the sauce of my wife's food was already crusted. The rice was also undercooked. I do have a tip for the owner: if you can get your bearded waiter to give as much attention to the customers, as he has for the waitress, maybe your sales would go up, since ordering for other drinks is impossible. For potential customers: steer away from this venue. It's a waste of time and money. There are a lot of wonderful places where you get better, and faster, value for money...

(Translated by Google) The dishes were very good and well presented. This restaurant looks classy, so we expected service to match. We were given our cutlery soaked in the sauce from the starter so that we could reuse it for the main course. In other restaurants they change them. We ordered 2 different glasses of red wine a la carte expressly to taste them. The waiter arrives with the 2 glasses in hand and puts them down for us. In other restaurants (I'm not talking about bistros where you order a pitcher of table piquette), the empty glasses are already on the table, the waiter presents the bottle, pours a little, lets you taste and if it's suitable pours the wine in front of you. And there, as if by chance, the wines have the same color, the same scent and the same taste. We are not oenologists so we didn't know if it was mine, my companion's or yet another... but they were identical. Lovely little restaurant with delicious, simple food. The daily menu at E17 is very good value. Highly recommended

Good food, but nothing special, very clean throughout including toilets. Just a little expensive for week-end menu when considering value for money.

Traditional local restaurant, the price and the menu is still in the past which is amazing. We had 4 courses and wine and coffee for 20 euros each. High chairs for the kids. A play park behind it as well. I had soup, roast camembert, bevette steak and cheese with wine Bergerac red wine. It is simple food prepared well with good service. My wife and mother really enjoyed the cassoulet and my dad had a rack of pork ribs. If you want modern cuisine go elsewhere if you want food that represents the region come here.

Lovely place to go for dinner. Very cheap for a 4 / 5 courses dinner. Small little French town without Google or reviews you would never find this. Honest friendly and smiling guy. But the food was delicious. I strongly recommend to go here and try this chef out. Compared to some touristic places this stands lonely on top. Regards J

Air conditioned! Good food. Menu is reasonably priced. Great service. 10/10. I would definitely come back here if I was in the area.

We’ve been coming here for years and we always marvel at the menu, the service and the price. Soup, choice of 7 starters, 8 mains, cheese, dessert, coffee and a small carafe of wine all for just over 15 Euros. There’s always something on the menu we haven’t tried before, the ice cream is absolutely some of the best we’ve ever had, the owners are friendly and so efficient. You’d be advised to book at lunchtime to avoid disappointment

Great welcome, good food at reasonable prices. A lunch time go to for sure. Will be back with out doubt.

Enjoyed a great 5 course meal here last night. A typical local restaurant with mainly French diners. Excellent service from the English-speaking owner. Our meal included Soup, Roast Pears with Roquefort, Confit of Duck with Sarladaise potatoes, cheese, Îles Flottantes. 5 course menu is €15.30, with a €4 supplement for the confit. A carafe of Pecharmant and the meal for two was €50. Great value and highly recommended

Lou Camillou, a restaurant located next to a bustling fancy establishment, pleasantly surprised its customers with an enjoyable dining experience. Despite being empty on a Tuesday night, this place exceeded expectations. The burger and goat cheese salad were exceptional, among the finest ever tasted. Additionally, the reasonably priced 2 euro wine was deemed more than satisfactory.
This was great. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. Thank you from your visitors from Canada.
Ellina — Google review
Kids burger looked like they used the remaining burger from someone else’s burger, they gave the escuse it was only €7 and that they cut a burger in four pieces. Have a look in the picture your self. Also when we asked the owner about it she reacted very defensive and didn’t even listen everything we had to say and turned her back on us only coming back to bring the bill. I didn’t expect a gourmet burger for that price but at least a burger that covered the whole of the bread or round shaped one like all the burger I’ve seen so far. Apart from that we also asked not to have cheddar cheese and salad in the burger but still came with it. The rest of the staff was friendly as expected and apologetic when we told them what happened. I hope she treats them in a good way. My kids and family even got scared of her, definitely not recommended to bring your kids here.

Wanted to stop at La Poste, the restaurant next door but it was closed. This place was very peaceful, sitting outside, and the server(owner?) was very friendly:). The hamburger buns are made in house. All was delicious.

Oh this Le Veggie Burger- so very delicious. This was the best I've ever eaten. Thank you. And the price is just right.

As burgers go, this is up there with the best! A welcome shady garden in a beautiful town on the river. Staff were very welcoming and forgave us for our bad grasp of French. The food was very reasonably priced with a good size kids burger. And what a burger?! Juicy beef, cooked just right, great selection…. Definitely recommend!! 10/10

Went here for dinner on a Tuesday night, not expecting much--especially since the place was completely empty while the fancy restaurant next door was bustling--but I was more than pleasantly surprised. The burger and goat cheese salad were among the best I've ever had, and the wine, at 2 euros, was more than acceptable. The waitress was very friendly, and (thankfully) spoke very good English. She explained that places like this are known among French people as serving "snacks," which aren't as well regarded in a culture known for fine dining, so most of this place's business comes at lunch. But don't let that put you off if all you really want for dinner is something quick, burger-y, and really, really tasty.

Lou Bombareau is a delightful restaurant that offers delicious and refined dishes made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The ambiance is pleasant, and the staff provides attentive service without rushing guests. The menu features a variety of flavorful options, including steak and chips, moules curry rouge, cabillaud, and tarte mirabelle for dessert. Guests can also enjoy complimentary bread with tapenade before their meal.
We spent a wonderful evening here. Before ordering we received bread and a delicious tapenade. My husband's entree was superb (a surprising but wonderful layered combination of pureed beet, green salad and crispy shrimp); both plats were to die for (moules curry rouge, oh my, and cabillaud), and the tarte mirabelle for dessert was excellent. Service was pleasant - this is France, so it's never hurried; take your time and enjoy every bite!

Decent french restaurant not far off the river , just by the village church. Typical cuisine of the region, nicely presented and a pretty nice quality of products. Fries were frozen, if only they took the time to have them cur themselves. Very friendly staff, was willing to serve even after serving hours.

Thought we would go out for a Steak last night and ended up at Lou bombareau. Nice surprise 4 course meal for 21euros. Including our steak and chips. The plates were warm, staff were pleasant and rapid, but not rushing us. Which is good for us as we just wanted a mid week meal without fuss! Good flavours with a variety of choices. The house wine was just fine. In the restaurant a local gentleman was on his own with a newspaper and he was attended to quite caringly. Some friends had a arrived together for evening meal. I think they were parked in a camping car at Montignac. So very convenient.. I must add the chips were the best I have had since arriving in France 6 years ago. Hot and crispy without a taste of fat!! I will be returning for the 14 Euro lunchtime menu if not a secret plate of fries.

Le 4 is a charming restaurant that also offers guest rooms. The food is delicious and made with fresh ingredients, served promptly by the friendly owner and his family. The traditional recipes are prepared in a contemporary style, offering interesting textures. Dishes like mi-cuit foie-gras with stewed pears and chutney or pork with smoked potato emulsion showcase the culinary expertise. The wine selection is thoughtful and reasonably priced.
We had a wonderful lunch at le 4. Super friendly and welcoming. Food was beautiful, very accommodating to children and babies. Great price, would love to come back. We especially loved our little visitor, chloe who adored our baby Daphne.

Absolutely delicious lunch, and for a great price. The amuse bouche, appetizers, main courses and desserts were all just right. Lovely little restaurant that also offers 2 guest rooms. Came here with a small group for dinner only. Everything was great. Food delicious, traditional recipes, but contemporary preparation and interesting textures. The mi-cuit foie-gras was excellent, served with stewed pears, chutney and green salad. The pork was served with a wonderfully tasty smoked potato emulsion. Small, but thoughtful selection of value for money wines (highly recommend the red Pecharment). Friendly service courtesy of Melanie (co-owner). Traditional farmhouse style dining room. If you want a break from the usual confit de canard and sarladaise potatoes, then come to Le 4.

The best food we had on our 3-week trip through France. The owner, his wife, and his son did all of the cooking and serving, but that was August and any help they normally have may have been on vacation. Nevertheless, the service was as good as the food, all in a beautiful courtyard setting. I wish I was local - I would become a regular.

The Chambre de Maitre on the first floor boasts large windows, a terrace overlooking the river, and a supremely comfortable bed. The spacious bathroom is well-appointed and offers great views.
Stunning hotel, kind reception, magical room. Stayed only one night while driving through the Dordogne, but now wish we had stayed longer. Extremely comfortable bed, huge bathroom, and the largest terrace I have ever seen - overloooking the quaint town and peaceful river. Exceptional in every way. Highly recommend.

Beautiful hotel, great location and super friendly staff. This is the second time that Mrs G and I have stayed here and we can’t recommend it enough. From the moment we arrived to the time we left, the staff were super helpful and made our stay very special. The rooms are very comfortable as are the beds. We will definitely return!

We chose Hotel Bouilhac as a stop off on our way to Burgundy from San Sebastian given its location. We were not disappointed. The service from reception was excellent and we settled in very quickly for our overnight stay. Our choice not to eat in the restaurant was due to enjoying too much great food before our arrival so we ate in the local village after pre dinner drinks in Relais that was close by. Breakfast was suitable for our needs and the service again was excellent. The room was very comfortable and we slept well, awaking refreshed for the next leg of our journey. We would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel.

What an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The renovation of such a stunning heritage building was superb and the interiors were gorgeous, and styled in a way that was sympathetic to the building and its history. The staff were so welcoming that at times we forgot we were staying in a hotel, the rooms were immaculate and we enjoyed the best meal we had in France on this trip in the elegantly styled restaurant. Our stay at Hotel de Bouilhac was superlative in every aspect and we hope to return again soon. Our thanks go out to everyone who made our stay such a perfect one, you could not have done more.

I had a great time at the hotel; I really liked my room. The restaurant was good too, and I liked finding certain gems on the wine list, such as the wines of Fabien Jouves - "Mas del Périé". I would have liked to find the same attention to detail at breakfast, which unfortunately was not the case.

Nestled in the charming village of St. Leon de Vezere, SmooVie Grignothèque is a delightful vegan restaurant that captures the heart with its cozy ambiance and mouthwatering menu. This hidden gem draws you in not just by its inviting name but also by the sight of happy diners savoring their meals outside. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Sabine and her team to cater a small family wedding for 15 guests, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience!
Amazing food and in love with all the tastes. It is incredible how everything fits together. She even asked what my difficult 3 year old would eat and put something together for her. And that at affordable prices. Thank you so much!!

Incredible vegetarian food, probably the best I ever had. Wonderful setting in Saint Leon sur Vezere, one of the most beautiful village in France. Great host and wonderful experience.
Olivier B — Google review
We contacted SmooVie Grignotheque to see if they would be willing and able to cater our small family wedding (15 people). Since our first contact, everything was better than we could have hoped for! Sabine was incredibly kind, thoughtful and easy to communicate with. We had several difficult allergies to accommodate for in addition to everything being vegan and Sabine and her team accepted this challenge with a smile. The food we had on the wedding day was beyond our expectations. Our family is a mixture of vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores and everyone had something they tried that blew them away. From watermelon sushi, to tofu chicken, to the berry cheesecake, to the kefir drinks, everything was made to perfection in flavor, presentation and portions. We were worried we wouldn’t have enough food after seeing how much our group could consume and in the end, we had leftovers for the next day. I cannot recommend SmooVie Grignotheque enough! We even had the chance to stop by the restaurant to speak with Sabine ahead of time and loved the meal we ordered and the setting of the garden in the sunshine. This would be a great place to stop if you’re passing through, staying in town, or floating down the river. Thank you for bringing such great vegan options to France, Sabine! We admire you so much.

Tried a couple of their burgers and they were fab! We were so excited to find a vegan restaurant in France, and this didn't disappoint. It's in a lovely arty riverside town. Prices very reasonable, staff very friendly and a nice courtyard to eat in. There's quite a variety of foods and a lovely homemade lemon drink. Keep up the good work!

Traveled a long way to support a local vegan business. We visited on a Friday at 1pm (when it should be open). Arrived to see message on the door that it was closed. They didn’t warn customers about the closure on google, their facebook page or happy cow.

What a pleasure to be back at SmooVie. The menu is delicious and amazing as ever. We had the specials and they now make their own burger buns!! The water is brought in from a local spring and filtered. That is the level of commitment to quality and taste. There is more seating in the garden. Come between 12-3 Thursday to Monday and most importantly, come hungry. I suggest skipping breakfast that day. Be prepared to have your taste buds excited and thrilled.

We stopped here during a tour of the zone. The place is delicious and immersed in the french champagnes. The staff was gentle and caring, the food was tasty and at a really honest price. Also it's a few minutes away from the museum so it's the best choice if you are coming or going there.

Service needs a lot of improvements! One lady to prepare all the food… come on even if she looks like a superwoman is too much for her! The one serving at tables…needs to improve her waiters skills. The other 2 taking the orders…just help the other two poor girls! As far as the food… nothing much to expect, is fast food but keeping in mind to wait about an hour…

Must stop to get your truffle burger! It's cooked really well and super flavorful. The burger costs $14 euros but believe or not that burger will cost you more than $20 in the states. It also came with really fresh and thick fries. We also got a salmon sandwich but if you eat meat I'd highly recommend just getting the burger. It's worth it.

LA PARENTHESE RESTAURANT in Montignac is highly recommended for its delicious homemade food made with mostly local ingredients. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a charming interior featuring exposed stone walls and a spacious wooden terrace. While the pizzas are praised for their quality, some feel they could be more generously topped. Despite occasional challenges with service, the staff is friendly and attentive. Overall, visitors appreciate the well-presented meals and the use of locally sourced ingredients.
Had been in France for a week already, been to different places and restaurants. Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t end up staying. We had made a reservation for 7pm and arrived on time. (We did not arrive at 6.50pm) The door was open so we entered. (The gate and door were both open, I assure you we didn’t open anything.) We shouted bonjour a few times but no answer. The waitress finally arrived with a scowl on her face and muttered some words in French. No welcome or hello. We assumed she was telling us off for entering.(I understand you are French, we aren’t disputing why you spoke to us in French it was very clear it wasn’t a welcome your waitresss was mumbling. we greeted in French but there was no greeting to us) She seated us and we asked for a highchair, a very curt response of ‘no’ and walked off. (No apologies) We decided to leave. Upon leaving, we advised as no high chair we will go elsewhere and was advised ‘if we had known we would have got one’. We had, as our reservation advised an infant would be attending. (Our reservation did state high chair. We had no issues elsewhere with needing to clarify) As we didn’t feel welcome we didn’t want to spend our money with them. We had a lovely dinner a few mins walk away by the river instead which was incredibly friendly and a highchair.

Dirty water and wineglasses. Not a nice ambiance as promoted. One table for two even overlooks the kitchengarbage outside on 1.5m distance. The fries" or potatochips are not crispy but soggy like an aspargus or old carrot.(they are homemade, but the moisture in the potatochip is not kooked out.). A 5 minutes walk to the Vesere river gives better restaurants.

When in peringorde, get the duck. The canard confit was sublime, as were the fries. The lasagna was good, not great. The “salad lyonnaise” was interesting, but probably not worth ordering unless you love lentils and ham together. Probably skip the burger original, it’s essentially a fried chicken sandwich.

We could say great things for a lifetime. Sina and Nick are perfection, adaptable, and took care of us like family. We dined “twice”. First was the Test Kitchen Menu – 6 courses. Highlighting the region and always presenting something unexpected, mesmerizing, but ultimately delicious. A true experience for anyone who loves food. The second time was a private cocktail event before our wedding. Wines from the region, canapés, cheese table, and trout and duck tacos. The entire service team was brilliant, chic, and generous. We had bad weather right before the start but the sun came out and we were able to host the event outside as originally planned. The team migrated everything outdoors and it became the dream event we planned for. Sina was the perfect orchestrator and we can’t thank her enough. We can’t wait to visit again one day.

Great sized room, king bed, and sofa and very well appointed bathroom and shower. Also tea and coffee making facilities in the room which isn't something you see in many continental hotels.

La Just is a charming family-run restaurant and bar located on the banks of the Vezere, offering a delightful menu featuring homemade burgers, salads, and Greek mezzos. The establishment prides itself on using fresh local ingredients to create delicious dishes with exceptional quality. Visitors can enjoy a variety of beverages including different beers and wines while taking in scenic views over the river. The friendly owner and staff provide excellent service, making it a perfect spot for a satisfying meal in Montignac.
We got to sit outside with a partial view of the Vezere River while eating excellent food avec de vin. My husband raved about his assiette alpha (a chicken dish) and I had kind of a Greek sampler plate. The gentleman who helped us was very friendly. Highly recommend!

Awful... hair in food, sent back but than a 2nd hair in food + plastici n food... did they really change the food !! dirty table, owner refused to take any money off for hair and said it was my daughters hair... she has blonde hair and the hair in food was dark and short exactly the same as the owners hair ! We shouldn't of left without paying but we aren't like that.. please don't eat there go somewhere without hair in your food !!! The young lady working was very polite, maybe the owner should try to have the same standards as the young lady.
Rebecca — Google review
Unfortunately a really poor experience. We found two hairs in the food, as well as a bit of plastic in the food throughout the meal. The first hair was found on within the pitta bread basket, and we then asked for the bread to be replaced. The owner kindly accepted to replaced the bread (least they could know, especially if we had known how this would unfold). Sadly, the second basket of bread, as lovely as it looked, came with a hair. Long, black, and thickly (tltr: important for the plot, please keep this in mind). The, then, third basket of bread arrived, and the owners started to look slightly annoyed. We were, by any means, not trying to cause a scene, but rather, trying to enjoy our food. We then found a bit of plastic in the salad on the plater. I understand this can happen, however, if you’ve read this far, you will know understand we have by now found 2 hairs, and 1 bit of plastic. Not wanting dessert, we asked for the bill. We went inside, to discuss the situation. The owner expected us to pay in full, with a thank you and a smile. We would have done so, should the above had not happened. I have now written too many words and will resume the rest in a few words: owner never apologise, accused ME of putting the hairs in the bread (I’m blonde). Never apologised. Not once. Offered free drinks. Didn’t want to take money off. NEVER APOLOGISED. Said the bread “came out of the packet. STILL DIDN’T APOLOGISE. So much wasted potential. If you like dogs talking to you while you eat and stay between your legs, hairs in your food, plastic in your salad: go. If you don’t, please go to a different place.

super tasty food and you can sit outside and inside and it is not expensive and very cozy

I rarely leave comments but in this case food was almost uneatable, really bad. You pay the price of a normal restaurant while you have to go look for your food, cutlery and even throw away whatever is left in your plate. The owner and his “funny zen” vibe ends up being gross and impolite. Don’t come, there’s a lot better restaurants in this lovely town.

Samuel S — Google review
(Translated by Google) While searching for a restaurant along the river on the map, I discovered La Petite Guinguette Zen and fell in love with the photos. I called immediately to make a reservation, and the owner won me over with his cheerfulness. Once we arrived, I wondered if we were in the right place, but once through the somewhat hidden entrance, the charm of this outdoor venue leaps out at you, with its garden tables with red tablecloths and reclaimed chairs by the river. After a warm greeting and a friendly chat with the owners, we perused the menu with Nora Jones songs playing in the background. The selection is limited, with dishes under €20. The seasonal and local dishes are well-stocked! Foie gras burgers, pork paupiettes, honey chicken... accompanied by fries, grated carrots, ratatouille (excellent!), pineapple, melon, and watermelon slices (and a little more for the vegetarian dish), great value for money. For dessert, ice cream. As indicated at the counter, it's casual, self-service style, where you take your tray, cutlery, and drinks, then place your order, which you write down yourself on the wooden digital tablet (we loved the owner's humor, natural and unfiltered). A real treat in this bucolic setting near the river, under the stretched canvases and the strings of lights that come on when night falls. A pause in time, a truly Zen moment. You'll be surprised in every nook and cranny of this wonderful place!

Mozzica is a charming small eatery and focaccia bar that offers beautiful homemade focaccia and pizzas in the evening. The friendly staff is accommodating, especially with simple options for children and turning sandwiches vegan. Overlooking the river, it's a great spot for Italian street food with vegetarian options available. Visitors highly recommend the vegan lunch with delicious homemade focaccia and garlic bean paste.
The focaccia’s were simply out of this world ! The Aperol Spritz i ordered was also very nice. The white wine was very tasty and the products used were high quality and fresh !

The pizza is charged by EUR10 per head. The pizza bread is very thick and the filling is not much. You can see i have cut out the rim of the pizza so i eat only those with toppings. We ordered 2 pizzas and each portion for 4, which can serve for 6. So, for me, it's not value for money because the toppings is not much.

I recommend this place a million percent!!! I am SO happy it was so close to our Airbnb. We were there a week and came here everyday- we loved their espresso (real espresso machine), and I was absolutely obsessed with the antipasti salad, and the pizza was just out of this world- you can taste the quality and care put into making it!! Large portions, amazing staff, amazing taste, will absolutely come back here if I’m ever in montignac again!!

The food was fantastic!! And finally a reasonable price too. We got the chefs special and even got to try things we’ve not had before. And it was lovely to sit by the river! The only thing that would’ve made it nicer was not having the loud rap music which was not a good addition to the atmosphere and was not pleasant. Italian, French or no music would’ve been better.

We can here for lunch and it was the best meal we had during our 2 week trip throughout the Dordogne region. The porchetta was one of the best ‘sandwiches’ that I have ever had. And the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food. Will definitely return.

50 out of 5 stars!!! This place is the cherry that tops this magical town of Montignac… We were blown away by the food, the service, and lastly the breath taking and picture perfect view at the edge of the river. You are really dining in a movie scene. Every ingredient was fresh and authentic. Still can’t get over the olive oil which set the stage for everything else. The gelato was out of this world…we came back three times in one day. On top of everything, the service and owners were delightful and we spoke at length with them about their restaurant and the town and region. Top of the top experience. Merci, Mozzica!

(Translated by Google) I've never eaten such good vinegared rice! The maki filling was generous, and Olga gave us lots of ginger to take away; so nice. The people who ordered seemed to be regulars, no wonder, we'll be back too ;) (Original) Je n'ai jamais mangé un si bon riz vinaigré !
