A wonderful place to visit. See the old. See the new. Beautiful. Sit and have food and drinks while looking out over the sea. (The following review, I found on line. But it sums this castle up so well I decided to use it.. edited.) “Perhaps the most amazing castle in Europe” In Baden-Württemberg, Germany is a beautiful town called Meersburg. It is very quaint, with some lovely streets and shops. My favorite stop in the area was this castle. First built during the 7th century. It doesn't look like much from the outside. But when you cross the drawbridge, the ticket taker is dressed in a medieval costume. From that point forward, you leave the present day world behind... This castle is the most authentic, original castle we've ever visited, and we've seen a LOT of them! The stuff in there is OLD, REALLY OLD!! As one of the only castles never to be taken during a siege, it was never looted. As a result, they just kept everything as it grew and was enhanced. There are no glass display cases, just a few strings and cords to keep you from sitting on the tattered and torn furnishings from an era long gone. The hallways, stairs, walls, tables, etc.. all just cry out to tell their stories of centuries past - of hardship, cold & glory. It really doesn't get more authentic than this!
The castle is really interesting, not too big, with a good atmosphere. There's an audio guide available by a qr code. The views are impressive, and the Bodensee is just magnificent. We were there on Monday, in April. Not too crowded. It's definitely worth visiting if you are interested in historical places.
old medieval castle and the old seat of prince-Bishops. you take the tour and follow the numbers on the wall and you travel in time between multiple stages. you enjoy the sea view and the medieval music. interesting.
It’s really nice to visit a nice museum with long history back to the 10th century. The route is well designed with nice view in the garden. Recommend!
Set aside a morning or afternoon to visit as this place is huge. Using your phone you can access verbal information about the different rooms and history of the castle. Fascinating. The gardens are beautiful and there is a Cafe with indoor and outdoor seating thats not to be missed.
The family thoroughly enjoyed the castle. It is like time traveling back to the medieval times. The boys liked all the weapons. It’s well worth the admission cost.
Burg Meersburg is considered the oldest inhabited castle in Germany and stands as one of the main attractions on Lake Constance. The fortress offers visitors a glimpse into medieval life with its halls, chambers, and historical exhibits. From its towers and terraces, there are also striking views over the lake and the old town below, making it a rewarding stop for history enthusiasts and travelers alike
Meersburg Old Castle (Altes Schloss) is one of the most authentic and atmospheric castles I’ve ever visited. Perched above the charming town of Meersburg, it offers incredible views over Lake Constance and even the Swiss Alps on clear days. The self-guided tour takes you through 30+ fully furnished rooms — including dungeons, knight’s halls, the old kitchen, armory, and the personal quarters of German poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. The experience feels raw and genuine — unlike many overly restored castles. The castle’s narrow staircases, wooden beams, and thick stone walls transport you right back to medieval times. Informational signs and brochures (in several languages) are helpful, and you can take your time exploring. It’s a short but steep walk through Meersburg’s old town to get there, but it’s worth every step. There’s a cozy café and a small gift shop inside. Not ideal for wheelchairs or strollers due to the structure, but manageable for most. Tickets are around €14, and great value considering the experience. You can also get combo tickets for nearby attractions. Highly recommended for history lovers, families, and anyone wanting to explore a real medieval castle with breathtaking lake views! I just visited last month it was an amazing experience the castle.. it's feel Like in walking in a history hollywood film

Its really good .we went from mersberg to konstanze by ferry and it cost 38euros fro 9 people with 2 cars and the journey is short and sweet also you can save 1hour time by going via road .you can take the tickets directly in the boat.usually it cost for single trip Single trips / round trips Simply pay cashless on board Persons !Single trip -for adult 3.40 Round trip -for adult -6.30 For car It start from 9€(single trip)it depends on the car length and 16€(round trip) They will also allow cycle/van/motor cycle too ..
Very good experience of the ferry ride to/from Meersburg/Konstanz! The ferry can be taken by people on foot, bicycles, motorbikes, cars, buses and by commercial vehicles too. The experience is really good and one can go up to the deck to enjoy the views of the lake and the nice cool winds! Personally I find the prices a bit too high... It was €22 for 4 people in a kombi car. The Flixbus from Munich to Zurich also takes this ferry. There's a small cafeteria on the deck offering decent coffee and light cakes/snacks.
Nice price, no waiting time for us (we arrived there at around 19:15, onboarded and sailed away immediately, even when the ferry was less than half full), saving time and stunning views on the lake worth it for sure!
A very nice experience for kids as well as for adults. Many ferries meaning you will not wait too long and enjoyable time while crossing the lake. Only the price for a 5 km ride is a bit expensive (EUR 18 for a car with 2 adults and 2 kids), even if I understand the company has expenses.
Ferry from Meersburg to Konstanz.
Very much convenient and quick way to travel between Meers Burg and Konstanz

There are only few rooms on the second floor that can be visited, half of which are in museum format. Overall, quite nice. A must-see place if you're on a tour around Lake Constance. The view of the lake from the terrace and from the second floor is breathtaking!
Definitely NOT worth it! Only a few rooms have anything to see, and what can be seen is scarce and unexciting. Additionally, there’s a nasty old lady on the third floor who aggressively asks for your ticket, when there’s no way to enter the property without one! I didn’t see her ask anyone else, so it might be a bit of discrimination on her part because we were speaking in Spanish. This place should be converted into a nice hotel, and that lady should retire to be alone with her bitterness.
the new seat of prince Bishops in the baroque era of Germany. overlooking the sea and has magnificent features especially the entrance stairs and the mirror hall.
Being very honest, for the average person you are not missing much if you skip it. But if you have some extra time in your day, it is nice to see the inside!
Beautiful building located on the ridge. You can talk to the top with a good pair of legs. Take your time otherwise. It is quite a steep road. No need to purchase tickets in advance. Very nice view from the top out toward Lake Constance
It is a great renesonce castle with baroque influence. The location atop of a small hill next to the medival castle overlooking the lake and seeing the whole northern alpes on a clear day make it a hands down recommendation. The restaurant offers top notch quisine for lunch and has a good cake selection for a quick afternoon break. Overall one of the top recommendation if you visit lake constance.
Beautiful castle and fantastic view across the boden see. The audio guide was also appreciated. Be aware, no English tours currently (although the audio guide could be in English).
Beautifully maintained, great frescos in the ceilings, with access also to the splendid chapel, the Schloss is worth visiting if in the area.

Very good well explained Zeppelin museum. I thing better than the big one in Friedrichshafen as is small (but concentrate) with many exhibits. Entrance €5, all in German language but there is available video in English
small and interesting museum on the history of the flying Zeppelin airship. cool collection of artifacts and parts from different timeline.
A wonderful discovery in Meersburg. All of the exhibits are fascinating as is the video show. It's really obvious that the lady who runs it is deeply passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. Only 5 Euro entry for adults too. It's not the biggest museum in the world but it's a real experience. Recommended.
Small museum that we happened to pass. Really friendly woman on reception who put a documentary on the TV and put it on English. We actually learned a lot from watching it and made the exhibits much more informative. Clearly the exhibits are put together from a local collector. Yes it's small, but the items were well laid in a condensed way. Really enjoyed it.
An interesting little museum. The entire collection was compiled and made available by individual private individuals. The Zeppelin - Museum since 1989, it always offers new, smaller temporary exhibitions. I can only recommend it.
Great collection with original pieces of history, staff is super friendly I loved the experience
Just thinking about my trip in the area in 2022. I really enjoyed visiting the musem. It's just a shame they didn't have space enough to show all the collection. I hope I can go back soon and see more memories of that time and of those journeys!
It’s an interesting museum! 🤗 Definitely worth visiting if you are around here. Highly recommend!

Interesting sculpture to check out on the pier. Worth a look if youre in town
A nice place to enjoy the lake view, with some seating and interesting sculptures to look at.
a welcoming sculpture at the end of the harbour passage. refering to some magical local feature. the surrounding is very awesome.
Best spot for spend some quite and relaxing time in the early morning
Interesting statue combination and great spot to relax and enjoy the view.
Very nice place to sit and enjoy the scenery around and sunset
Peter Lenk is an ingenious artist. He presented Franz Anton Mesmer, a legend of Meersburg in the most dramatic light ever. Mesmer was the founder of animal magnetism and performed some hypnotising works with magnets. Hence, the word 'mesmerize' came from him. How interesting.

Excellent wine, beautiful tasting room, modern concept and bottles/lables, lovely area in the middle of the wine yards, lake view. Friendly staff. Just come in for a tasting - they have a huge variety! While it is expected that you buy something (of course), the wine is worth it and it's (almost) impossible not to 😉 Our favourites: 1. Grauburger old vines, 2. Seegucker Also: Secco Rosé and the "normal" Grauburgunder with the pink label. Nice Besenwirtschaft (seasonal bistro) too!
Had a lovely glass of wine overlooking the vineyards and lake. The location is amazing on a sunny day. They also have a few snacks and cake available. I found their rose wine the best of the selection.
Organic winery - a bit difficult to find - but worth the backroads. Watch out - they close for lunch! And if possible schedule your visit between Wednesday and Saturday - then you can enjoy the terrace and the “Besenwirtschaft” Would love to taste their wines at the #internationalorganicwineaward 😁 Dogs better stay outside!
Delicious wine!!!! 100% recommend stopping by to try on their curated selection and get your favorites. Worth the ride :)
I bought 6 bottles on saurday 27 july. One of the rosé was "bouchonné" so I had to throw it away. Of the 2 red and the 2 white, 3 of the corks came out. No idea why that happened. Not a nice surprice. I e-mailed the company but they did not bother to answer me. It was a warm day but the company seems to be ice cold in their relation to visitors/tourists.
You can try wines. White wines are not outstanding. A red cuvee sauvignon and pinot noir can be recommended.
What a great place! The Aufricht Vineyard is a gem amongst Bodensee Vineyards and caters a great selection of fantastic wines. Service was really really good and everyone was really kind helping us choose the right vines. We even got a tour of the cellar and were able to stay on for an event. Great day in a great place!

Beautiful town, certainly worth a short walk. Even in bad weather and fog, colorful tenement houses captivate with their beauty. Above the promenade on the lake is the castle. In good weather, a beautiful view of Lake Constance. For a meal or coffee with cake, visit the Fährhaus Meersburg next to the ferry to Konstanz. Delicious Italian food. Nice clean interior with a lake view. Great place for families with children.
A beautiful romantic Stadt awaits you as you enter through this gate, it’s a historical tower dividing the town in lower and upper area. There are many souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes and. Ice cream parlors inside the Stadt.
A beatiful and colorful little town near Bodensee. Worth clearly a visit.

Stunning views and a highly recommended place for a glass or two of wine. After enjoying a glass on the terrace we tasted a few sips and bought some nice wine at their shop.
I love discovering wine from another country. Coming from Canada, I had no set expectations. We were first disappointed to find out there was no tastings because of a festival, but then in the store, this incredible gentleman whom I forgot his name but started with a Ü, gave us a tasting with detailed explanations. Everything we tried was awesome, we bought 3 bottles to enjoy very soon! Thanks for the great memories!
A very interesting place. It is a pity that there were no excursions at this time. I'd like to see what's inside the plant.
The place presents itself as the friendliest winery in the entire Germany...I hope it's not true. We were denied wine tasting because we a too big of a group (5 girls) even though just before us a group of 3 people were tasting multiple wines for half an hour.. we were also said that there are too many tourists to give everyone wine to taste (it's not for free by the way) while there was no one waiting behind the doors. So I hope the wine is ok at least.
Good wines and very professional experience thanks to Ricardo. Thank you.
Very good wine collection and represents Meersburg wines elegantly. Also thank you Frau Kaub for good hospitality.

This was an exceptional and truly enjoyable tour. I could genuinely feel the significant cultural and historical role that wine has played throughout the years. The wines were incredibly unique and absolutely delicious.
A must visit in Meersburg. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and made the experience worth while. You can try different wines at a very reasonable cost and this will be offset if you buy some bottles. We tasted white wines and enjoyed their freshness and vitality. Danke
The person who explains is really kind and all the wine is delicious. You can also taste wine. She also explains her knowledge about wine well.
I'm waited a little bit more, but for general information it's enough. Also you can see some historical movies, to fill different wines' flavours and try some glasses of wine
(edited Nov 2024 to be more clear as feedback to the Vineum response) if you don't understand German it is tough, but it is a nice museum. You get a booklet with some translations, HOWEVER there are many interactive exhibits, eg Videos, hanging art, tasting areas etc... that are ONLY in German and you end up missing out on alot. Make sure you also ask the staff more questions, they are efficient in their dealings with the customers. Make sure you save alot of time before 6pm to do the winetasting (cost money 1.5euro per .1l) Closing time is STRICT be wary (We took too long in the museum trying to match the translation to the piece, and missed alot of the tasting also)
Very interesting exebition of wine history. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Really great museum, but only if you speak German, as nothing is written in English. However if you do speak German I HIGHLY recommend going here!!!
