Such a nice a park to visit. If you appreciate Japanese culture and the way they shape trees to give them their own personality. You'll enjoy this. It's very family friendly, but I'd probably skip the pram if you bring one. A baby carrier would be a better option.
Great space for family quality time! Beautiful landscape and perfect spaces for connecting with nature and the japanese environment. I had the opportunity to visit the park at the beginning and more than 25 years later it is a beautiful place to enjoy with your family
A beautiful place to have a family outing. This park has decades and is perfectly maintained, you will enjoy from an experience like being in a real Japanese garden. This place is a great fit for small kids and elderly people, will enjoy the nature, the recreated spots and can feed the ducks and swans! If you are visiting La Serena, be sure to experience this japanese garden.
Gorgeous manicured gardens in the centre of La Serena. We attended the anniversary celebration with Japanese martial arts displays, crafts, food and culture on show. The ducks and swans are beautiful and very relaxed around people. Plenty of stunning photo opportunities
This place is absolutely beautiful. It was design by a japanese architect so you can be sure it was made with love to the japanese culture. Its also really well kept and you can feed the ducks and swans. Its also wheelchair friendly. I would absolutely recommend it if you are visiting La Serena
This place is very peaceful and is only 1,000 chilean peso per adult. I enjoyed seeing several types of birds, listening to the waterfall, and sitting, gazing at the well-maintained nature from the park benches.
Nice Japanese garden for walking. Great for aslow stroll with a friend. It is an older public garden and it is showing some wear. Good for walking with kids.
For 3 CLP per person this is worth a stop to spend a relaxing time in a well maintained Japanese garden and observe many ducks and geese enjoying the habitat.

Shopping
Craft market with an internal courtyard & restaurant level, selling alpaca products & souvenirs.
Slide 1 of 8
Fantastic shopping experience, set up across two large courtyards, and overflowing down the street, dozens of vendors selling all the goods you are looking for. You will find some incredible deals on alpaca ponchos, jewelry, leather, signs, food, okay much anything you can think of, and it's mostly local handmade goods! Dig through the shops and you are bound to find some incredible gems of items! Highly recommend for all your souvenirs and shopping needs. Best part are the upstairs restaurants, delicious made to order food at real budget prices, especially compared to you run off the mill restaurants around town. Worth while stop, and I seem to keep going back!
This is a very nice place to visit if you are in La Serena, you should definitely take a visit. You can find many handicrafts in La Recova. The nearby street views are awesome. The only thing you need to watch out for is plan not to drive in the area during afternoon school closing time as parents & students are all converging to the area.
A very exciting place. In addition to tons of souvenirs, there are also many local products. The vendors are very friendly and unobtrusive, and haggling can be worthwhile.
Nice place with a lot of shops , hairdresser restraunt , great to find souvenirs and local produce
Hmmmm, perfect for a souvenir with some treasures to be found but the problem is that every treasure is found in every local. I think that the preserved baboaca is a good price. Even the wool was priced fairly. However, you are left feeling that after the third local there aren't any more to see. The second floor looks good for a brief Pisco Sour prior to renegotiating the city-town.
A surprisingly diverse "popular" market with handcraft (from simple to elaborated ones). Always be careful with pickpockets and be atemptive with your belongs. Nevertheless is an impressive stop, worth the time.
Lama sweaters & gloves & hats very reasonable. Nicely made.

If you come to La Serena don't forget to stop by alfredo, the landmark lighthouse in La Serena. How do you stop here, you can stroll along the beach. On pleasant weekends, at least, there are lots of little shops selling snacks and things like that, and there are a number of restaurants along the beach as well. I recommend La Mia pizzeria which is really a nice Italian restaurant with many things on the menu
This famous lighthouse remains as a symbol of La Serena and was built in the 1950's according to a plan to modernize the city led by former president Gonzalez Videla
Beautiful views of the ocean and beaches and interesting history lesson. All the signs and information is in Spanish.
La serena and Coquimbo are beautifull towns on the pacific coast, nice night life, perfect restaurants, great for taking just few days off... And the sunset is a must here 😉
Place was closed. There were some shady guys arround it. It is dirty and smells kinda bad. I don't recommend wasting your time going here.
The lighthouse is not in great shape. It was never a functional lighthouse. It was built to be.an attraction and a landmark for the city of La Serena. Tsunamis have swept across it a number of times. It is often foggy in the morning making the beach obscure.
Despite signs saying otherwise on the front door it was closed when we visited so I cannot comment on the inside. Exterior was interesting enough with the large ca noon facing the ocean but a little information would have been helpful.

Good place to have a quick bite while waiting for the bus or before going to the airport. Tip for shoppers: department stores have stock for items not available at Santiago, take a look. Small but it works. People mostly friendly.
Nice place to shopping and eat a great fast food. A lot of homeless person asking for money.
Close to bus terminal - good place to have a quick lunch before your trip. Failed to find a grocery store/mall, but there's a lot of restaurants/fast foods. Has number of sport shops, so, you can buy some last minute equip, if needed.
If your backpacking and waiting a while at the bus station, pop over to mall get yourself something to eat and jump on WiFi. The WiFi was good so I could download a few films for the night bus I had ahead of me and was better to chill here than at bus station!
Your typical Chilean mall. Not much to do if you are a guy. Parking free for the first half an hour.

Amazing experience. Very friendly staff. They deserve 5stars. Not all vines met my taste but some very great ones were among the variety they offered.
A great, fun little tour at this family business. Great to see what they do and how they care about everything! The wines are also delicious!
I came here with my wife and ihave to say the person working here wasn't nice. She didn't want to say anything about the wines, like, cmon we've come so far and she couldn't even say "Hello" she also didn't let us taste anything or explain anything about the types of wines they sell. Terrible customer service. I'm ngl we'll never come back here
Fantastic! We turned up near to closing time without having reserved, but we got a free tour of their wonderful historic vineyard from a lovely lady who spoke English and we had 4 wine tastings. All wines were very nice, we bought a bottle of our favorite. Thanks for one of our favourite experiences in the Elqui valley!
Nice family owned winery. We did a quick tour and tried four of their wines. Very delicious.
Beautiful area. The tour was 3,000 CLP per wine glass for the tour. The wine is rather inexpensive for purchase and was fairly good.
Family owned winery. Delicious el vino!
Eugenia was the star of the show, for my brother and I. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a wine tasting where the guide is able to convey the complex wine intricacies as simply and succinct as Eugenia. I was not planning to spend much in buying these wines but after hearing from her the story of cavas, and tasting the wines, I had no choice. I bought a bunch of wine that unfortunately will not last as I will drink them as soon as I get home. Amazing place, everyone should spend some time with Cavas del Valle.

Truly something unique about this place. Mother nature is stunning in the beauty of this earth. This micro climate only exists in this location, and it's situated such that the ocean mist rises and supplies enough water to create this forest. The temperature is a complete escape from the aired dry region it lives in, and the moisture in the air is something unique. Definitely worth a stop! Be sure to purchase your pass online before you venture in as it can only be had online, and there is little service within the park.
The national park is in great condition, it has nice paths for trekking, but at the moment, conaf, the national agency in charge of it, has the most extended path closed. Anyway, the most important one is open, the hydrophilic forest, a 50 mins at slow pace path where you can see by your own the dispute between desertic and forestry flora, this is an unique feature of this place, who is recognized by UNESCO has one of the starlight place to go.
Worth the trip! The park was amazing. One step you are in the desert, the next step you are at the coast. Fascinating ecosystems. The rangers are friendly and informative.
Very cool, but drive up the hike is humid, hot and straight up. The you have to hike down too. But the desert to rain forest is amazing at the top.
Nature is amazing, beatuful place. There are camping, bathroom, parking. You can't do fire to cook. Th road is in very very bad condition, low cars are not recommended to go.
Very nice trekking and green forest. A long dirt road about 40km. Very steep hills for cars, drive carefully.
I’m leaving this review for the bad organization and general unpreparation to welcome tourists. Apparently you can only enter the park if buying the parc passes online. We didn’t know and drove until the entrance (1h our / 60km way and back from the exit on Ruta 5); where we were told that we had to buy the tickets on the website. We then tried on the spot for 30 minutes and 4 different cards, but all the time we got some different bug and errors. We asked if we could pay them in cash directly after coming such a long way, but they said they were not equipped to have this option. 2 people “worked” at the park entrance basically doing nothing if they can’t even sell the tickets to spontaneous visitors and considering that in this low season we were likely the only tourists they saw for weeks. Very unhelpful and a bad experience overall. We were also told that the only walk doable in the park is a 30-40min one, so charging 10000CPL per entrance per person seems quite a lot too. Good luck to future visitors!
30 or 40 min to get in to the park. The road is not good, but the park is very nice.

Highly recommended. The exhibition is truly informative and beautiful. Here you can learn everything about the early history of La Serena and the surrounding area. There's even a real Easter Island statue as a highlight.
Fascinating! And some exquisite items.
It was a really small museum, only a small corridor and entrance! But the items were really interesting and mostly related to the hunting tools of ancient residents of chile! They had also a goid chronological illustration about the archeology of Chile.
Free museum that is worth a walk through of you have some time in La Serena.
This museum is currently closed and undergoing renovations. They have a small number of displays in the lobby, which you can visit for free.
Free and interesting!
At the time of my visit, some rooms in the Museum were being renovated and closed but, for the few I visited, the archeological items (potteries mostly) were spectacular and well lit with a nice museography, only there were too few. The entrance was free and the staff really friendly. So, in the end, this was quite a small museum but it was very much worth visiting. It took me less than twenty minutes to do it and I don't see any reason to skip it unless you are allergic to Museums.

Amazing, informative tour. Our tour was in Spanish but the tour guide did step aside to talk to us in English as we were the only 2 foreigners on the tour. It’s worth coming even just for the ride up to the observatory from the base of the mountain and the spectacular views from the top. The whole tour took nearly 4 hours including the 45 minute ride to the top (and back). Pre-booking (free) is obligatory and recommended at least a month or more in advance.
Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) is a NOIRLab facility at 2200m height of Mt.Cerro Tololo in the Coquimbo, Chile. It hosts 4m Victor M Blanco Telescope and several other telescopes. It is open for visitors on Saturday for 4-42 visitors. Booking information is available at following link: https://noirlab.edu/public/visits/cerro-tololo-chile/
This is a fantastic experience, and well-organized one. The observatory itself is a state-of-the-art in my view. Folks from the observatory envisioned a form on their website to fill in, no phone calls are needed, a free bus from the checkpoint will get you to the observatory itself, the landscapes are breathtaking. The staff carrying out the excursions are the scientists themselves, very educated people that can explain how the things work in the observatory, and in the Universe. They even open the domes and move the lenses for the groups. I am absolutely amazed and strongly recommend it to everyone.
Not only was the visit to the telescopes amazing, but the view from the mountaintop was breathtaking.
Just an amazing place, beautiful views and astonishing night skies.
Google has asked me to rate this joint, so here goes. It's an out-of-the-way place - you have to be really dedicated to come here. Travel time from the US is on the order of 20 hours. The food is pretty good for a place that's on a mountain in the desert, but the real reason people come here is the sub-arcsecond seeing. This place's specialty is the 4-meter Blanco telescope, with the Dark Energy Camera mounted at prime focus. Be aware that you'll need a reservation to observe here: the "Time Allocation Committee" is pretty choosey.
Magico night in Cerro Tololo with incredibile sunset and sub rise. Sky with SQM 21.66!
I was here for the afternoon tour. Great tour done by very competent staff, very well organized about transport, communication and timing. Love it.

(Translated by Google) Permanently closed. A shame because there is a room for local artists but as they indicate on the door that it is closed for at least 15 more years according to the receptionist, we almost left due to the bad information from the man at the entrance. You can't see the museum, the service is terrible. Better go to the archaeological one, it is beautiful, big, free, interactive.
(Translated by Google) It's my first time there, which is a shame because it was under renovation and the tour lasted no more than 10 minutes. The renovations are going on for a long time, according to the manager there. There were very few things to see. There was a temporary exhibition commemorating Women's Month, but beyond that, nothing.

Museum housed in what was the home of a former president in the 1940s. (Translated by Google) Upon entering, we were told that "it's a museum that isn't a museum," and it's understandable since it has little regional significance at the moment. It has suffered structural damage since the 2019 earthquake, so at some point it will be closed, restored, and reoriented museographically to meet the standards of an archaeology museum (highly recommended!), until then. Until then, it has three exhibits: one on masonry (which looked temporary), and two others on the customs, arts, and life of the Chango people and farming communities. It's interesting, but reading everything won't take more than 20 minutes. Let's hope the museum reopens in a few years with a new look and more comprehensive exhibits.

Really, really nice spot to visit with the family if you are staying around La Serena or the Elqui Valley. Very kid friendly, places to have an asado, clean toilets and fun rides. Food is good and not too pricey. No anti-social idiots with parlantes/bad behaviour etc. Very much recommended and will return.
It is a nice place to visit, pools and restaurants are in good shape, There are different pools by age. One key recommendation is to arrive early and book your return (car) prevously (otherwise you will suffer to wait, wait and wait for a bus or cabify, which are very limited in that area).
Very nice. Friendly staff. Clean pools. AMAZING churros Only thing I didn't enjoy was the large pathway. It has lots of little rocks, and I had bare feet. Otherwise highly recommend
Nice place to enjoy the water with the family!
Fun for the whole family
