Great place for snorkeling. We saw turtles, rays, sharks and even tiny sea horses. The ride getting there was really bumpy but the views were all worth it.
Unique landscapes. Paid $100 USD. Waters were rough the day we went. Snorkeling was great - saw turtles, white tip sharks, sea horse. More shallow waters so need to be careful not to get any cuts from being close to rocks.
Best tour in Isabela! We were lucky to find whales on the way to the site. We saw “tintorera” sharks their babies, turtles and nesting blue footed boobies and colorful fish. The scenery was beautiful. What an amazing place !
Great site for seeing birds and marine life. We booked the tour with Pahoehoe and the experience was great, started at 7:30 am, took a 45 min boat ride to the site, then we had a a tour to the tunnels with a guide, a little hike and then another shorter boat ride with stop for snorkeling. We saw marine turtles, fishes, tintorera sharks and sea horses. Amazing experience. Note, we came in september so we were a very small group, and that made it easier to snorkel.
Very good snorkeling here suitable for less confident swimmers. Sharks, turtles, rays etc. Not as spectacular as Kickers Rock in San Cristobal but much less intimidating. IMO the standard groups of 12 on boat tours are a bit large for snorkeling trips- you tend to end up getting in each other’s way and there is always someone who just won’t wait. But that is the standard group size for most trips. The above ground views are interesting and pretty, but not worth the journey if you’re not a swimmer. Bring shoes or sturdy sandals with proper straps. Volcanic rocks are sharp and you don’t want to be climbing over them in flip flops. The journey to the tunnels involves a trip on a very small boat in a big sea. This is not the Mediterranean- it can get rough. If you are really not a fan of small bouncy speed boats, this might not be for you. Also would be cautious if you have back or other issues that might be aggravated by hard jouncing.
A completely magical place if you are a snorkel enthusiast or even if you are trying for the first time as it was my case! You will have the opportunity to see and interact with sharks, turtles, manta rays, golden rays, plenty of different tropical fish and even seahorses! One of the most interesting places to go in Isabela. You will need to go by boat, prices for a day trip range between 100 - 120 USD. Beware of the boat trip if the sea is not quiet as it can be a quite risky.
Very beautiful natural setting, with volcanic formations and crystal clear waters. the snorkeling views of turtles, fish, shark was amazing :D
An expensive tour...worth the money (100/145 usd per person ) but you can experience similar snorkeling for far less in tintoretas (45/65 USD )

Had better snorkelling here than some of the tours we did! :) went twice - once was awful visibility but still lots of fish If you have ur own snorkel u may as well. Current can be quite strong on the right side but you get in by the steps and swim left, around the buoys at the front and then back again and it’s quite good. To the right I would only go if you’re a strong swimmer (that’s where I saw a HUGE ray!🫶) as the current can be quite strong and some other people were struggling to swim back
We hired snorkelling masks for next to nothing in town and then walked to the lagoon. The water was crystal clear which allowed us to see lots of aquatic life, but the highlight was the young sea lions playing with us in the water!
The water was murky and chilly, but I still had a great time! Snorkel gear rental right at entrance, $8 for set. Sea lions competing with tourists for the bench seat. Saw lots of fish and a very large ray!
The most beautiful snorkeling spot. If you come early in the morning you might see swimming sea lions or turtles!
Oct 23 AM, Saw: 1. Lots of sea turtles 2. Black ray 3. Tons of colourful fish. 4. Seals that come swim with you and kiss your arm. 5. Swimming iguana Water clarity is not bad, but not crystal clear. The water is cold, we left after two snorkels and we had short wet suits (we were shivering at the end). Maybe different if there is direct sun. Very good snorkel for the only free area in isabela, but probably not a substitute for a tour due to poor water clarity and probably tons of people midday. *HORSEFLIES at this dock. Can't even sit on the dock to enjoy the sun, they just swarm you.
This is a free place to snorkel. It had a abundance of fish to look at. I recommend a wetsuit as the water is chilly. My wife and myself lasted longer then anyone else as we had full wetsuits on. We could go about an hour at a time no problem.
Quiet, freely accessible bay. Fantastically beautiful path through a mangrove forest. Here you can snorkel and swim independently. Get up close and personal with seals, iguanas, sea turtles and pelicans!
One of the most beautiful places I ever visited! One you visit this place you will understand why the Galápagos Islands are so unique, in such small area you will get to see a lot of wildlife direct in front of you! From sea lions, colorful fish, sea turtles, to sharks, and playful penguins may be part of your day! Absolutely beautiful

Great excursion that usually combines an hour of shore leave and a good hour of snorkeling with a tour around the small islands. Lizards, penguins, blue-footed boobies, sharks while snorkeling, sea turtles and the entire super-bouncy underwater world. 45$; absolutely worth it.
Loved it here! Walked around on lava formations with lots of marine iguanas all over! Then see the white tipped reef sharks in the slit of water between the high rock formations. Then great snorkeling with so many turtles that my friends and I had to make sure we didn't touch them.
Sadly we didn’t see any sharks but many sea lions, iguanas, and sally light footes
Spectacular spot right in the bay. Turtles, penguins, rays, sharks, sea lions, marine iguanas, etc. Definitely worth the short tour and cold snorkel. Tour guide required.
You have to book a tour to get here, we got to see some penguins. Further in we saw sea lions playing in the water, chasing reef sharks and trying to bite the white tips of their tails. It was super cute and entertaining to watch.
I fascinated with the behavior of animals that are not afraid of humans. Without fear a Galapagos penguin cleaned their fur or swam around the boat. We also saw frigate birds flying around Tintoreras Island, a sea turtle swam in the depths. Sometimes the sea lion peeked out in the distance. Once we circled around the island, boat landed on the Tintoreras Island. The guide explained that the island is the only place of Marine Iguana to nest in Galapagos. Then we arrived at the place called “Shark Alley”. Wow … .goosebump on my neck !!!
Nice place for snorkeling
(Translated by Google) A beautiful place, with a crevice where you can see everything, turtles, fish, iguanas, penguins, blue sharks and sea lions. This Tour is very nice and recommended (Original) Un bonito lugar, con una grieta que se puede ver de todo, tortugas, peces, iguanas, pingüinos, tintoreras y lobitos de mar. Interesting spot to visit albeit somewhat somber. Highly recommend riding a mountain bike to the wall as the trail is a little rocky, sandy and hilly. Climb up the stairs on the side to get a nice view of the surrounding area.
It's a wall made of loose stones with a dark history. Its a nice sight and the hike there is beautiful, we even saw giant tortoises. It's a long hike, I recommend hiring a bike.
We hired bikes in town to get here. It was uphill on the way which made the ride back enjoyable. We were lucky to see Giant Tortoises on our way there! The wall itself is not incredible, but the wildlife en route makes it worth it.
The wall of tears is worth the visit. I would highly recommend renting a bike. We did it it was 18 km round trip. Yes you can walk I don't think it's a good idea at all.its very hot and not a lot of shade. It's 10 dollars each to rent a bike for 5 hours. We saw three tortoise along the path cool as hell lost of Marine iguanas.
Historical interesting, but more about the bike ride (or walk) out to it to see tortoises up close (keeping 2m away) and great views from beaches and lookouts. Rented bikes in town for $5 each and did the trip in under two hours with a couple of stops but could easily make the trip longer with more stops.
Great place to visit by mountain bike. Cycle along the route with some great stops ending at the wall of tears, which used to be part of a prisoners camp. Although the wall itself is not impressive, the way there and back is a great way to discover Isabela by yourself.
Great place to Bike to! Rent a bike in the town and bike to the wall of tears while stopping along the way to see many animals and nice sights!
I’d recommend walking rather than riding a bicycle. Be sure to have on plenty of sunscreen and bug repellent. There are so many different paths to follow, some less traveled than others, with incredible beauty. The story behind the Wall of Tears” is heartbreaking.

It's good that places like this exist to protect the giant tortoise species. They also educate, entertain, and activate the tourists to tell the world that these giant gentle creatures need to be protected from mankind's missteps.
I read the other reviews here & really want to give this place a nice review - I may not have all the facts but I felt the place seems stark and unforgiving for the animals. There was almost no vegetation on the grounds, compared to the lush reserve I visited on Santa Cruz. Now it could be that because it is mainly a breeding place, maybe vegetation isn't needed. Maybe the babies are fed another way up until they're larger and then they are moved on. I may not have been paying close enough attention. What they are doing - breeding these wonderful creatures - is commendable and I hope it continues. Pay attention to your guide, read the notes in the museum on the way out and be glad you were a part of it!
Must visit on your Galapagos trip! The tortoise breeding center is one of the best places to see these incredible creatures up close at every stage of life - from tiny hatchlings to massive adults. The center does amazing conservation work, helping restore tortoise populations across the islands and educating visitors about the challenges they face.
Walking distance from town. It's worth a visit to see the reproduction and preservation of this species of giant tortoises. However, this place needs an uplift.
You can see the tortoises here. is a really small center if you haven't seen the turtles yet, definitely a good place to come by and see them.
Awesome value for money, only $10 to enter with a guided tour. Cheapest activity on the island to do :) Our guide Pablo was awesome! The sanctuary has over 1,200 Tortoises ranging from newborns to 25 years old, the age when they release them into the wild to breed by themselves. Loved it here!
Definitely a must see if on Floriana Island in the Galapagos. Very educational to learn about the turtles. We had a guide that did enhance the experience. So many turtles to see. We could have watched then got hours. Would definitely recommend coming here.
Fantastic reserve and well done for saving those wonderful tortoise. An easy walk from town, or take a taxi and walk back along the boardwalk and maybe see some flamingo’s. One of the best things to do in Puerto Villamil and it is free! Don’t forget to walk up the road 250 m to see some more flamingo’s
