Different from other castles we visited in Portugal. Just went in and walked around. Mostly empty but very interesting for the fact it hasn't been modified much. Gave a good feeling of the starkness that living in such a building would have involved.
In general, almost nothing special inside except the gorgeous view from the top. Anyway, the price is not big and it worth it going, at least to support all work they do to keep it well. Also, jfyi, not dog friendly. But, in general the castle is absolutely beautiful from the outside. It looks so unusual compared to other castles in Portugal. Also this village inside the walls - so beautiful and so big pleasure to walk around. Absolutely worth visiting!
Castelo de Évora Monte Type: castle / tower Time spent: 30-40 min Path for disabled: not available Parking: available, small Bike parking: not available Price: 1.5 EUR - the main tower (!) Main tower is closed on Mondays Public transport: from Estremoz (3.25 EUR) / Évora, bus, 3 times per day Built in 12th century, it was reconstructed several times. The main updates were done in the 14th century, when the medieval city was surrounded by walls, and in the 16th city, when the castle was reconstructed after the earthquake (1531). The unusual construction of the main tower can be related to the updated military necessaries of those times (16-17 centuries). In the 19th century the city lost it's importance and it's municipal status was ended.
We arrived at 17h and the castle was already closed 😐
We didn't attend to visit inside so I don't know about tickets, but the view from the hill on which the castle located is amazing.
Amazing location. The castle has a lot of reading material at the floor level and a nice view up top. You can explore the walls both on top and inside. It's a very calm and peaceful place although very windy.
Interesting architecture. Inside it is a kind of museum, with few real items but with clarifying info graphics. IMHO the best thing is the 360 degrees view that you can have from the roof. Be prepared to climb many steps in a narrow stairway. Entrance is free but check the open hours before. They close early. Take advantage to visit the village of Evoramonte and watch the sunset. A plus? Visit the crafts and regional product store Celeiro Comum.
Beautiful views, you can walk around most of the walls and towers, €2 adult entrance to castle during opening hours including access to the roof, nice café with friendly staff close to castle called The Place

(Translated by Google) Évora Monte is worth a visit, and not just for its castle. Throughout the historic village, we find an unexpected piece of history or art. Just be careful ;) (Original) Vale a pena a visita a Évora Monte, e não só pelo seu castelo. Um pouco por toda a aldeia histórica, encontramos um pedaço de história ou de arte inesperada. É só estarmos atentos ;)
It's a nice castle in a typical Alentejo small village. The castle could be more well taken care.. But nevertheless it is worth the visit, specially if you're with kids along.
