Very enjoyable visit, located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it’s important to take the time to read all the information boards (English & Spanish) located along the path to get the most enjoyment out of your visit. The history and importance of what was a Christian city in the Islamic Empire of Al Andalus can only be understood by taking the time to do so.
A good add-on after you have hiked Caminito del Rey. The 4 Euro admissio fee is paid at the trailhead. Short walk. Excellent ruins. In the winter hours, it closes at 2pm.
Very interesting place to visit. I spent there more than hour and noone else was present on the site! Enjoy the ruins and relax here!
Take it or leave it. But For €3 can’t really complain. Take some photos, read the history of the ancient village and the mountain passes. Worth having a look at if your already in the area
Unfortunately the ruins were closed when we called in on the way back from the mirador at the top of the road. But the opening times and costs were posted on the gate! So we can return when it is open. And it doesn't cost a lot either!
Unique and fascinating 9th century ruins carved out of sandstone. It was open on a Sunday and only cost €3 each. There were many notice boards in both Spanish and English telling the story of the ruins and Umar Ibn Hasfún in great detail. At the top of a beautiful mountain trail with great scenery surrounding you. Alternatively you can park right next to the kiosk and walk up to the ruins.
If you're passing and have up to an hour to spare, pop in. If not, don't make a detour. The road up to it past the Embalse is nice though. But it ends up as a dead end (no through road). Oh and it's easy to miss the entrance. It's opposite a wooden cabin where you get buy the entrance ticket for 3€ and park, just off the main road. Google Maps was trying to take us about 1km further up.
Ruins are interesting but the path is not well kept. Some signs have been burned by continous sunlight and are barely readable. Entrance ticket is 3€

There's not much to see, but it's nice. The view from the castle is really good. It's a nice place for taking a few selfies. Definitely would recommend learning more about the history of the castle so it would be more interesting to you.
Really lovely site with fantastic views. You can drive to a car park right outside the castle but I really wouldn't recommend it unless you have a very small car and a comfortable driving on extremely narrow streets. We decided to park on the outskirts of the town and it was about a 20 or 30 minute walk. Extremely steep in places so be aware if you have any conditions that may hinder climbing. The console itself is relatively small but peaceful, clean and well maintained. There appeared to be a small visitor center but it was closed when we went (approx 3pm on a Friday). There are some QR codes you can scan for information and background on the site. Absolutely gorgeous views in all directions. There were no facilities on site or nearby for toilet or refreshments so make sure you are prepared beforehand and enjoy this beautiful piece of history.
A beautiful castle on a hill above an even more picturesque town. I definitely recommend not to wander through the small streets with your car, but to park in the large parking lot on the edge of the town. The walk through the little town is definitely a lovely ‘price’ to pay afterwards. The castle itself is completely free to enter and provides a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. Be sure to stop by the little church outside the castle gates as well and note the altar of the Virgin Mary on the right hand side. It is filled with bouquets and ‘offerings’ in the form of locks of hair and other personal trinkets.
So glad I visited. Views spectacular. Hard to get to so paid for taxi to take me up to see the castle. This was organised by the Information point in the centre. Taxi waited and took me back down the hill again. Well worth doing this. Toilets located at the castle. Roads VERY narrow. Park down the bottom near the town.
Visited Alora Castle with Rural Routes tours. We had a fabulous trip and would highly recommend the tour company
Alora Castle, an amazing viewpoint on the top of its hill. I walked up from the railway station, a bit of a climb but well worth the effort even if only for the view alone.
We passed through Álora around 10 p.m., but we wanted to see the castle, so we drove all the way up to it. When it comes to visiting Álora, the journey itself is the destination — winding through charming, narrow medieval streets where tolerance for anything that moves, stands, or sits is essential for navigating the roads. It’s both a rite of passage and a beautiful experience.
Great views, very few tourists, parking right at the entrance, however driving up there is challanging a bit, streets are narrow and steep. Free entrance.

Don’t miss out on this small, but amazing museum adjacent to the parish church. The building on its own is worth a visit, with its ancient columns and vaulted ceiling. The collection focuses on local occupation spanning prehistory to the Phoenicians, the Romans, the medieval period, through to the twentieth century. They have some stunning pieces. The curator is very welcoming and even refused to accept my admission fee as it was World Tourism Day! She also gave me a guided tour of the museum and the adjacent church. Highly recommended.
What an amazing Museum in the center of Alora. If you want to know the history of this beautiful town, María José will give you all the information you need. She was really helpful, nice and professional. The entrance to both the Museum and Church is only €2 per person. We loved Alora
A small but very nice museum, beautiful church and castle. We had an excellent guided tour with Mary Jose and Francesco. Very friendly, personable and knowledgeable guides. We learned a lot about the history of the monuments and the town.
Very nice museum and beautiful church! Friendly staff and we had an amazing tour with lots of information about the history of Álora. Had a great time!
Great wee hidden gem. All the exhibits are in one large room with an impressive vaulted ceiling. For a meagre €1.50 entry fee, the friendly and enthusiastic staff explain the creation of the museum and give information on the exhibits. The price also includes entry to the church next door and the mirador of the castle. Juan, one of the staff, gave us an exhaustive tour of the church which was very informative. A good way to kill an hour or so in this lively town.
Cool place to visit after castle. The lady there was very nice, told us about the history of the churches in the village. You may watch the video there about the city and the church next to the museum which is normally closed.
Small but nice museum, very friendly staff. 2 euro per person together with visiting a church.

We had a very nice visit and wine tasting. Wines were excellent and tasting&tour was only 25€ with tapas included. We bought some nice wines to home and prices were 10-20€/bottle.
After Caminito del Rey we got here (without reservation!) and the owner was so kind to let us in and try its wines and one really good vermouth. Very much suggested!
Excellent wine-tasting! Highly-recommended when you are in the Malaga area!! Gracias! ✨️🍷💯
Thanks to the flexibility of the bodega and Diego we could still enjoy the tour after our flight was a bit delayed. We got a very nice tour from Diego who explained everything to us in detail and answering all our questions. We’re still learning Spanish and Diego managed to make sure we understood everything by speaking slow and clear. We tasted four generous glasses of wine together with amazing pecorino, chorizo and manzanilla’s. The wines were very nice and we definitely brought some bottles home. Muchas gracias Diego!
Small local bodega. The owners are very welcoming and they explain about the local winemaking. Beautiful wines made by hand. You get nice snacks together with 3 wines
Awesome wine and great people. José Miguel and Francisco make amazing wines. I can’t wait to visit them again.
