If you're a backpacker, Bunaken village is the place. Countless homestays behind the main gate, just walk inside and you'll find what you looking for. Local vendors selling souvenirs and food stalls offering basic local food. The area is pretty clean. Overall, it was ok. If you're a diver like me, you'll fall in love with Bunaken underwater. Turtle everywhere - giants one!! Bunaken offers wall dive but if you're looking for macro, then Lembeh is the place to go. Have fun!
The coral reef wasn’t the same as they said/pictures, i hope the government take an action to restore the coral.
Amazing place for diving and snorkeling. Truly feels like Paradise Biodiversity is superb and it is just beyond beautiful
Beautiful and peaceful however it needs major clean and tidy up on the Island
Beautiful island. The food stands are right in the beachfront so you don't have to worry about the meals stock. Some area on the island are prohibited to visit because it's the part of some resort, but the rest of the island are for you to explore!
Wonderful! The last time i go here, it feels different, it so quite and not so many activity to do. But my last visit (2/1/18) this place give me a big surprise. It is beyond expextation, the view is clear blue, coral reef near the cost of Bunaken Island, the colourful fishes, the locals culture and the traditional foods are all verry lovely. If you love traveling, Bunaken is one of the most recommended place for you!
Great view, in this national park there are some islands that have womderfull beach with the white sands and clear seawater. Also amazing under sea scenery with many fishes and coral reefs spreads wide.
a beautiful place to go snorkeling if you don't mind other people, just keep the beach and the reefs clean, so don't leave any trash, or even collect a bit of the trash and give it to your captain to help clean the reefs and preserve the local diversity. You can even see turtles while snorkeling there. If you have an underwater camera, definitely bring one! attached are some of the wonderful views I had! It's definitely worth a stay

We absolutely loved our stay at Thalassa resort. The staff does everything possible to make the guests have the best possible stay. Food was nice, bungalows were comfortable and the wellness was great. The diving was absolutely marvellous: beautiful diving sites, excellent equipment and very professional dive instructors. I felt completely save with them every minute I was under water. I can highly recommend this resort to everybody that wants a relaxing and home-like atmosphere when travelling in Sulawesi.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Thalassa Dive Resort! The diving was fantastic – well organized, amazing dive sites, and a truly dedicated team. Did my OWD there. Especially thanks to Analfi, Kiara and the boat crew! The resort itself is simply beautiful. ]e felt welcome and comfortable from the very first moment. What really stood out was the kindness and helpfulness of everyone working there. Their flexibility seems to have no limits – no matter what we needed, they always found a way to make it happen. We felt so good that we actually extended our stay twice! The food was excellent – always fresh, delicious, and varied. Our room was quiet, clean, and air-conditioned – just perfect. A big thank-you to the whole team (especially Yesi) for making our holiday so special. We’ll definitely be back – diving Bunaken with Thalassa is simply a dream!
A beautiful resort in every aspect. Very nice housing in the middle of beautiful nature with incredible flowers (check out the ginger plants) and trees, clean, very nice food. And most important of all: the staff is so friendly, it makes you truly feel like friends. The resort truly is reason enough to stay here, but diving with them is entering another world. So beautiful, and they really pick out the right spots and took good care of snorkelers (like me) and divers.
I have nothing but positive things to say about this amazing dive resort The staff is super friendly and helpful. They get out of their way to fulfill the wishes of their clients. And I mean all staff: the reception staff, the restaurant staff, the cleaning staff and all the dive related staff. For example we wanted to go to Tangkoko national park but not by car. We wanted two motorbikes, one for me riding with my daughter, and one for my wife, who needed an Indonesian driver. And I needed a holder for my phone on the bike to use Google Maps. It was all perfectly arranged. And this is just one example The food is of very good quality. In the morning there is a breakfast buffet with yummy pancakes. Lunch and dinner are not à la carte, you eat what the chef cooks that day, but really, the food was always good, sometimes western, sometimes Indonesian. Oh I loved their pumpkin soup The resort itself sits in beautiful jungle. The infinity pool is great. Our villa had two bedrooms and a large living room, all properly air conditioned. The bathrooms are outside, which is just great. Refreshing to wake up and take a cold shower, or a hot one after a dive. The diving is awesome. We did 9 dives in total 6 at Bunaken, including a night dive, and 3 at Bangka island. All dive instructors and dive masters are Indonesian and super cool. We saw sooooo much…Lots of turtles, 2 times an octopus, a blacktip shark, demonstrator crabs, jackfish, moray eel, ribbon eel, pufferfish, box fish, clownfish, parrot fish, batfish, trumpet fish, frog fish, stone fish, scorpion fish, leaf fish and so much more
Thalassa is a special place to stay and I loved it there! Had the single room and it was perfect, clean, comfortable with a beautiful rainforest outlook. The food was amazing ! Healthy, fresh and delicious! And 3 times a day. Everyone was friendly and very professional -Thalassa staff are sensational . Simone is an incredible woman as I got to know . Involved in her community and very thoughtful. Had excellent experience snorkelling . This is a wonderful place to stay , within a great community.
I spent a week at Thalassa Dive Resort and had a really enjoyable stay. The staff were all incredibly friendly, responsive, and genuinely caring—it created a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout my visit. As a diver, I really appreciated the small diver-to-guide ratio and the shaded dive boats, which made the experience both comfortable and well-organized. Although the dives aren’t directly from the resort and require a short transfer to the harbor, it was smooth and never an issue for me. This was my first time in Manado and diving in Bunaken, and it was a fantastic introduction to the area. The diving itself was beautiful—so many turtles! I also liked the variety of excursions offered, including a day trip to Lembeh to try muck diving—definitely worth it! Meals were provided three times a day, and I always felt well taken care of. Internet wasn’t super reliable, but it didn’t take away from the experience too much. Unfortunately, I got sick toward the end of the trip and had to skip a few dives, but I still enjoyed my time at the resort, especially relaxing by the pool. All in all, a great experience with a fantastic team!
This Jungle-experience hotel is a dream for those of us who seek best nutrition during their stay in Manado. The great cooking chiefs make everything handmade, even the butter and bread for the breakfast. And who tastes it’s fine flavours, on the included breakfast, lunch and dinner, experiences the real taste of handmade food, and the great joy that it can give us in our glutamate-driven world. Thank You! 🙏🏻
12 of us stayed for 5 nights and did 15 dives. If you want some of the best diving, most helpful staff, comfortable accommodation and good food at an amazing price this really is the place to go. What you get for your $$$ is really, really great value!!!

We had a wonderful time in Bunaken and saw so many turtles (too many to count). Best wall diving in Indonesia for sure! Gorgeous walls with lots of corals and seemingly bottomless. The island is cozy, and the local bar is also fun at night to play pool. Our instructor, Gustavo, was super nice and attentive. And a big thanks to our Homestay with delicious food and a super cute Puppy (Oreo). Special thanks to the owner Jack who helped us with everything. Tanks for having us, the two Swiss Girls Michelle & Lucille
We had 4 great days of diving and if we come back to Bunaken, we'll dive again with Mendy 👌 Friendly, helpful, and flexible on all of our days diving. The boat is spacious, you get free water, coffee, tea, and cookies, between the dives. The gear was well-maintained. The diving was amazing, the walls were stunning, and the visibility was great. They made sure we never dived the same site twice. We could pay by Wise so we didn't have to worry about cash. What could be improved? - Tanks were usually between 180-190 which is a bit less than usual, but we still had 60min dives 😉 - We had two dives lead by more junior dive masters, we assumed they were in training. We don't mind, learning is key and Mendy took over once he felt the need to. However, there was no communication about it, which would have been helpful.
I stayed here for three days for the open water course, and I was glad I chose this place. Jack is a really nice, funny and professional coach. and I made so many friends here. people from all over the world, we going out to the sea everyday snorkeling and diving. really wonderful memory! and the good thing about this place is it's a whole deal package. diving course and meals and stay all together at a really affordable price. Jack's place is very close to the famous lekuan diving site. u could see amazing corals and fishes by snorkeling in the Sea quite near the homestay. this is a place I would definitely come back again!
I had a lovely stay!! Staying here for 4 nights. They were so welcoming people. Jack’s brother, Maldini and his wife, go snorkeling with us and throw a small party to us. Moreover, They introduced daily life of locals. We witnessed the men playing bamboo instruments. I’ve done 4 dives with Adu. He was good at spotting macros because i wanted to have macro photos. Here you will have a lot of wall dives and to me i gained more experience here. Thank you everyone. I will go back in the future!!
I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to dive with Bunaken Scuba and Homestay. As the oldest dive centre in Bunaken, they offer an exceptional experience at a fantastic value. They not only provide a homestay, but the family also runs the public boat service from Manado, making access seamless. The dive centre boasts high-quality rental equipment, experienced local dive guides, and offers highly competitive prices. I strongly recommend diving with them. In fact, many of the more expensive resorts hire their guides to take their divers out, which speaks volumes about the quality and expertise on offer. An outstanding choice for anyone visiting Bunaken!
We had such a great time with Jack, Ado, Stefan and Maldini Everyone of them is so friendly and very good dive guides. I did my PADI rescue diver with jack, and it was such a nice experience He explained everything very well and easy to understand! I‘m looking forward to come back to you!! See you
Great experience with the team! Everyone open to help and really welcoming. The diving spots they took us to were honestly amazing. I would dive with them forever if I could.
Such a great diving experience for my friend (Advanced Padi) and I (Open water Padi) with Jake and his team ! I would really recommend if you like a safe, relax and flexible approach organization (Indonesian lifestyle 🤙🏼). Thanks again ;)
