Very peaceful Friary and spoke with a local resident tending graves. She enlightened us with enthusiasm on the history of the Friary and aspects of the construction. It's worth a visit if you are ever in the area. Free to enter.
An absolute hidden gem. It is in a really great condition. Unreal to walk through the cloister where the Franciscan monks have walked. You can also clearly see the parts of the old castle walls and tower remnants that have been used for the Friary. There is also a burial vault. The metal door is closed off but you can peek through the holes (see photos).
Very charming town! We stopped just to visit the Abbey but our toddler ended up playing in the playground and we walked into the restaurant/bar for a bit. Lovely people! The ruins are pretty and quick to explore, took us maybe 35 minutes but we weren't in a rush. Sept 17, 2024.
Big,well preserved friary with church.free entrance
The old Franciscan monastery is impressive even as a ruin. What is quite interesting is its current use as a burial ground.
A nice old ruined Friary to visit. There’s no roof on it and it was abandoned long time ago, but there’s a nice graveyard around it that still used to this day. It’s free to enter, but there’s limited parking nearby, there’s some spots just around the corner. It’s somewhat popular, there was several people there while I was there. That tall tower is still intact and there’s a nice courtyard in the middle, with rows beautifully carved pillars, that’s similar to other Abbeys. The entranceway and looking inside makes for a nice photo.
So much history. Gravesites everywhere so be careful where you walk but absolutely worth a stop and takes only about 15+20 minutes
We arrived at 4:40 and the doors had been locked for a bit already, so don't take it for granted that it'll be open till 5:00. Grateful for those who posted photos here, since we're traveling from far and won't be able to get back. Peaceful location. You can walk around the outside, shared with some very chill cows.

Absolute sweetest family-run stable and tour! I had no horse experience and my partner had some but no English experience. Karen took us everywhere, through the most magical forest, around the centuries old castle, and through her family’s greens full of little baby lambs! We learned some trotting, took some pictures, the whole nine yards. Everything was super comfortable and professional. Our only wish is that we’d set aside more time to spend here and in surrounding towns before rushing off to the cliffs! The price was absolutely more than fair so if that’s putting you on the fence, don’t let it.
This was my second visit to CastleFergus Riding Stables, and it was just as wonderful as the first! The horses are great, perfect for riders of all levels! I already have the riding experience, so I enjoyed some canter through beautiful meadows, and my friend with less experience even tried some trot. The scenery is absolutely stunning, with peaceful trails that take you through the beautiful countryside. It’s such a relaxing and enjoyable experience, and I’m already looking forward to coming back again!
I had the incredible opportunity to visit Castlefergus, and it was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the friendliest dog, Freddy which was such a sweet start to the day! Check-in was smooth and easy, but just a heads-up: be sure to bring cash for payment. As someone with some horseback riding experience, I found the ride to be exceptional. The horses were extremely well-trained and well-behaved, making the experience enjoyable for riders of all levels. Morgan, who guided our group, walked alongside us during the ride and added such a personal touch. Freddy tagged along also! We chose the Castlefergus ride, which felt like stepping into a magical world. We rode through lush forest greenery, through a pasture full of sheep and lambs, and passed by the old castle. Morgan even shared some of the history of the castle, which added a nice educational touch. This experience is affordable and absolutely worth it. I would highly recommend it to anyone! Whether you're a seasoned rider, a beginner, or looking for a fun family outing or date! Thank you to the staff for being so lovely!
Our horse ride was one of the highlights of our road trip around Ireland. We were traveling with our children, age 9 and 6 and for both of them, this was their favorite experience of our trip. My husband and I also really enjoyed our time. The scenery during the ride was beautiful, with sheep and rolling hills. We enjoyed talking with Morgan and Sarah, and appreciated them sharing some of their favorite local restaurants and other spots. We took them up on a dinner recommendation as well as checking out Quin Abbey nearby, both of which we loved!
My family had a fantastic experience at Castlefergus! Sarah went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had a great ride. The horses were lovely and the countryside gorgeous. Everyone was kind and welcoming. Highly recommended!
Came for a ride a few weeks ago and haven’t been able to get the experience out of my head. Morgan was a lovely guide around the fields and I could’ve chatted with him for hours. Aida and Sarah and the girls on the farm were helpful and kind. And Blue was a gem to ride, even when he got it in his head to race Barney a bit. “The best wind is from between a horse’s ears”
I had a wonderful time doing a trek through the fields. It was absolutely gorgeous, the horses were wonderful, and the guide Sarah was so kind! I would definitely recommend if you want a nice relaxing horseback ride
We found the Castlefergus horse riding to be great. They offered our family a 1 hour trek around the area. What a great farm and lovely ride on the horses. It is a family run business and very accommodating. It was our little 5 year old's first ride. They made him feel so comfortable and lead his horse 🐎. They have 1hr, 1.5hr and even 2 hour horse rides. Thanks Sarah for a memorable time!

Great fun in all weather's. Instructors are very helpful, and regimental in a good way. Would definitely recommend for sports clubs, birthdays and Hen/Stags. No shops nearby, so would recommend bring your own supplies of snacks and water. There is a break between games wear drink (blackcurrant squash) and biscuits were provided...And wear old clothes! Thanks to George and Horatio for making the experience brilliant!
We did Splatball on Sat for my son's 12th birthday - us adults joined in too! They have an amazing set up there! It was so much fun from beginning to end. When they said it would take about 3 hours I thought this seemed long - but the time absolutely flew! There are several different games organised. The kids said it was the best party ever - and I have to agree!! Very well organised - George and Horatio were great to deal with - and made sure everyone played fairly. Will definitely be back!
We went for airsoft activity here and it was one of the best experience I have ever had. It is good to have at least a group of 20 people and the maximum allowed is 30. The games that they had was really interesting and you need some basic level of fitness. They provide suits to cover us up and have all the necessary safety gears. But if you wear glasses, I would recommend wearing contact lenses for this game. Glasses were a bit annoying and fogging up with the head mask. They have one basic toilet which can be used on urgency. The instructors are really good and guide us very well throughout the game. You need atleast 3 hours to enjoy it fully. They have good parking space. Take some snacks to munch and energise between games.
This was A class from first contact to saying goodbye. An extremely well run operation. Lads were great to deal with. So much fun. Amazing value for money. The actual set up is incredible. Can't wait to do it again.
Enjoyed the experience, and its very good value, would rate it very highly. Positives were price, location, gear, negatives were the staff can be a little cross with the young lads and took on too many kids on this particular visit thereby delaying the start time which delayed the finish time so parents arrived back to collect 1 hour too early. Would recommend though.
Really enjoyed our time there. The setting is beautiful. The games were fun and varied and the equipment was all in good working order. The owners were really friendly and it was great value for 3 hours of entertainment
Absolutely amazing!!!
The is a great place for older kids parties. I have been for kids and adults and both times we had great fun. It's safe and the different options of paint guns means if you have young kids it is safe as long as you follow the instructions given. A fun 3 hours.
