It’s a delightful gem-themed museum and adventure center nestled in the heart of Radenthein, offering a hands‑on journey through the world of garnet. The interactive exhibits—such as the Garnet Room, carving out a stunning gemstone‑lined space, the 300 m underground tunnel, and the gorge—create a vivid, sensory experience. The highlight: in the covered mining area, visitors of all ages can chip their own garnets right from the rock—guaranteed to spark excitement and a sense of discovery . Guided tours and a free multilingual audio guide bring the science and history of garnet mining to life, making it engaging and educational
This place is a legit mine and a good experience for any Rockhounds. The museum is nice, but it's really cool that they let you chip away your own rock. The guy that was running it was super nice and clearly likes his job. 5 stars for him. They also have actual specimens from the mine available in the gift shops. Not all mine museums do this. The website says to contact them in advance for tickets, but I went in Sunday morning with no problems.
Granatium is a super fun and unique activity, perfect for anyone who loves rocks, gems, and a bit of adventure. The visit starts with a small museum and a beautiful cave, which set the mood really well. But the real fun begins with the mining experience. You’re given a helmet, safety glasses, and a pickaxe, and then you’re off to dig! The mining area includes large rocks and even part of the mountainside. They give a short but helpful explanation on how to find the garnets, and you get a small bag to collect the gems you find. Mining is surprisingly hard work, but very rewarding and a lot of fun. Afterward, you can visit the shop to have your gems cut, which is a nice touch. The store is fun to look around, though it is quite expensive. All in all, I highly recommend this experience especially for anyone who loves geology, gems, or just wants a hands-on adventure!
Great place to visit if you love minerals and stones. There is a little, beautiful museum, but then walking through the mine was the best, as you can see all kinds of glistening stones within the walls (even luminescent). At the end of the visit you can even cut out your own garnet stones.
It was a really nice experience for our family, to spend a few hours at Granatium. We visit the museum, the mine and we dig for pieces of granatium with hammers, equipped with a helmet and protective glasses. You are doing a great job.
The staff was very nice. We had to leave the dog outside while visiting the museum. This was OK. They brought fresh water for him. Our dog is very small, so we took turns to keep an eye on him. After this, we could go with him to the mine. We mined some very nice stones. It takes quite some skill. This is nice for children above 6 years old. Overall very nice!
This is a wonderfull experience with kids and adults. The museum is great for its history about the region and the area outside is wonderfull for kids to mine their own garnets. Only downside is the explanations in the museum are in German only.. so keep your google translate handy :-)
Interesting Museum with tunnel and opportunity to harvest your own karfunkel, but for our 3 year old of little interest…would say for kids from 6 this is a great activity, anything below not so much.

Friendly staff, and lovely artisan cheese, they even sell pickle 😉 (if from UK you will understand, 😋, think ploughmans lunch). I tried a little Kärntner dough ball with cinnamon inside. Only 1.50 Euro, very yummy. I wish to visit again soon and sample the delights in their cafe. If you love cheese you will love this little place. 😊
Lovely artisanal cheeses and other products from oils to schnapps. Good place for a brunch and a coffee.
Althought I am vegan and I do not eat cheese, it was an interesing story to hear and see. Very nice shop with local products.

Absolutely beautiful place, the garden had the view to die for. Excellent food, homemade cake was super delicious. Our dog was treated even better than us, as well as our son. I especially liked the smell of wood inside, from a new wooden furniture which was done with great taste. Can’t wait to be back there.
Restaurant across the street is part of the brewery.
Cosy local traditonal craft brewery. The beers are five stars. They offer local and takeaway too.
Best view of the valley on a summer night, and best chicken which is the specialty of this region. Highly recommended!
Tonight was our first visit to the Shilling bar, we will be back it was such a lovely atmosphere she very friendly staff not to mention great beers. See you again soon
A wonderful carneval party! Granat beer is the best beer ever. You can take the beer at home in their beautiful glass bottles. The waitress is wunderbar 😍 very kind and sympatic
Always excellent, great beer brewed in house! Bar staff absolutely top!!
Excellent and well-crafted beer in a cool location with great ambiance. 5/5 bought kegs to take back home.
