Combined a visit to Quéribus with Peyrepertuse later that day, and I am glad we did. Quéribus is smaller, but more intense. We had a bit of wind (not even that much) but the effects this wind created in the castle was just incredible. Best "Cathar" castle I have visited so far (and I did quite a few). It is a (short) climb to get there but it is surely worth it.

A must do visit for anyone who loves Cathar history. You can drive up fairly close but still quite a long uphill path to get to the ruins. I can attest the the steps are slippery in the rain.

We came here on a drive 2 hours away from where we were camping. The drive here in itself was worth it with some stunning views. The castle has a car park and toilets. The walk up is quite steep and gravelly and then when you reach the castle it's steps are quite steep and potentially slippery in wet weather. Phenomenal views and a very breezy site!

This is my favourite castle in the region and possibly the most atmospheric of any that I have visited. It was helped by going late and being alone n this forbidding environment. The climb is a challenge if unsteady on your feet but what a view and what an atmosphere. If you only visit one caste in the area then go here.
