What a fabulous Sanctuary this is. Plenty of parking; stayed overnight in our motorhome. We were lucky to catch an afternoon tour on Monday as they're shut until Friday. Ideally book on line to ensure you get a ticket. It's a 2hr guided tour and although it is in Spanish if you search for Tourismo Castilla y Leon website there is an English commentary to follow, so take ear buds with you. The centre schedule the visits with feeding time so you are guaranteed a sighting. €8 entrance fee to support this excellent centre.
They do a great job, here. My 5 stars go for the investment they made in protecting the species and these animals in particular. Some of them are somewhat disabled and they generally wouldn't survive in the wild competing with their much more resilient brothers living in nearby Sierra de la Culebra. They also do a great job in explaining to the general public that the wolf is the millenary victim of "bad press", being the archetypal figure to represent evil and treachery while it is, in fact, the most noble of animals, not so different from a common dog. The day I was visiting the presenter on the other side of the fence was a professor, a guy that lives among the wolves for many years and maintains with them a kind of family relationship. He recalled that he was once attacked by them in a night when radical activists attacked the enclosure in an attempt to release the wolves into the wild (something not to do for the reasons I have just said). The animals became so nervous with the noise, the lights and the stress they felt around them that became aggressive. And that was it, that very only time, for a very understandable reason. You can see the enclosure from within an observation wooden structure, you can walk around part of the enclosure from the outside and then you have the museum itself, with interesting stuff on this subject. A must for animal lovers, recommended to humans on the process of giving animals the respect they deserve.
This was an amazing experience! I would even say that if you are nearby it's a must to visit this place. Seeing a wolf in the wild is something that's difficult to top in terms of wildlife watching, but it's something very difficult to achieve. This place gives you the opportunity of seeing these beautiful animals. The animals are very well treated, the staff is great and the infrastructure conditions are very good. On top of all these, they have an important role in environmental education and wildlife conservation.
Disappointing. The 1st part of the visit was very good in giving history, background knowledge etc of the wolf and the difference with dogs. It was great education. However, when it came time to see living wolves, you were told to be very very quite & were taken to a "hide" to view them being fed. Sssh be quiet. Well, almost 90% of that time was taken up by the handler talking to the people in the "hide" while he fed them small morsels of food. Repeating what had already been said inside. Then after the wolves wandered off, this guy came up and repeated stuff again for 1/2 hour while people went to sleep. We were so looking forward to seeing them in a close to natural habitat, but it was closer to a zoo experience. He talked so long people were starting to fall alseep. Shame on them, in particular the "handler". He loved the sound of his own voice. Then there was the push by staff to buy merchandise. We had planned to, but couldn't after such a poor experience. In almost 2hrs we had only 15-20 minutes to experience the wolves, of which the guy was talking for all but maybe 5min. So quite time to really soak in these incredible animals. It is with a heavy heart that I cannot recommend this "experience". We talked to several others, who felt the same.
Great experience watch wolves roaming around and being fed. Lots of information and lectures.
Amazing educational center for both adults and children. I've been there 3 times now and the young man feeding the animals (and young lady doing the tours) share an amazing amount of knowledge with the attendees. It's unfortunate the tours are only in Spain especially since there are lots of foreigners (Italian, French, English). Please note that the paper information was not available due to Covid restrictions. Solution: 1 tour a day in English or some written explanation in other languages?
Visited with a small child. Very well laid out in a beautiful area. Interesting info from the guides on the wolves and fantastic to see them in their own habitat. Excellent prices in gift shop and cafe too!
A cool place, here you can see at liberty wolves near you, but you can't touch them or see them lime 1 meter near you

I loved the stony rural houses covered by flowers, walking into this village is very nice and peaceful.
We loved it such a wonderful building to explore, it has quite a few stairs but I managed it with my old arthritic body. Also the museum of giant’s is included in the ticket price of €2 for oldies.
Amazing and lovely citadel, it's a must visit if your l are in the region. With to visit the castle as well, it is only 3 euros and totally worth it. A couple of options for coffee and meal around.
A real castle, commanding a great view around, as it's often the case, but having been in the thick of the action during its 900 year history. For 6 years it has been in the hands of the Portuguese, the traditional foe just at the other side of the nearby border.
Magnificent, well preserved & rebuilt castle in 12th century style, maintaining many original features. €3 (€2 discount) entrance, interpretive features & translation to English (& other languages) available. Access to all floors of castle & battlements with great views. Excellent value & experience
Stunning place to roam around and enjoy.
Definately one of the better castles to visit - more extensive structures to see. The town itself has kept its medeival look and is much more substantial - and prettier - than other castle towns. Will be returning when I'm in the area, especially for the medeival fair.
The castle had more-than-one multimedia presentation, professional staff, excellent examples of history, clear explanations in Spanish, and either Portuguese or English (depending on where in the exhibit one was), and the art display was wonderful- though I thought it funny that they were playing Madredeus (Portuguese - from their "Live in Porto" album). Was an exciting drive from Bragança, and I enjoyed my afternoon at the castle very much. The tour whole tour took about an hour to enjoy it all.

This is perhaps one of the best preserved and cutest small villages I’ve ever seen in Europe. There are no modern monstrosities to be seen and the architecture is fully done with stones, including the houses roofs. You’ll walk the whole little town in about 20 minutes.
Very beautiful scenery in this very plaza. Awesome stonewall construction and really nice place to walk around and have a nice steak in nearby restaurants. Very nice views from the mirador
(Translated by Google) Located next to the castle, in the upper part of the town, this church was built at the end of the 12th century. It has a Romanesque origin, but already in transition to Gothic. The cover with the 4 human figures on the shafts of the columns is interesting. In 1995, during restoration works, a multitude of tombstones were found underground. Today you can see some covered with protective glass. The visit was free.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful Church that presides over the highest area of Puebla, almost next to the castle of the counts of Benavente. Its initial construction was Romanesque, but little remains of it, the majority being Gothic. It has 3 baptismal fonts, one Gothic from the 13th century, another from the 15th century and a last very curious one forming part of a column in the choir. Impressive organ and pipes. The rose window, simple and small. Not suitable for wheelchairs. Parking is scarce and far away. It is worth a visit. Beautiful place, great views, nice staff. Very interesting
A silence park. It has a nice museum which is nice to know Sanabria and it's nature.
(Translated by Google) Maps of the area are available for purchase. Highly recommended. The Environmentalist was very willing to answer all my questions and was able to convey many of the park's values, concerns, and, above all, measures that can be attributed to the protection of flora and fauna, including otters. My stay there helped me overcome the disappointment of no longer having a solar boat on the trail, and I also understood the possible reasons. It's better to protect this very special region. Less noise is better. And if that weren't enough, she told me about trails to different lagoons. There seem to be hundreds of lagoons in this area, including waterfalls, and pretty towns. Menos ruido mejor. Y si no fuera ya suficiente me comentó senderos A diferentes lagunas. Parece que hay cientos de lagunas en este zona, incluidas cascadas, y pueblos bonitos.

I love old historical churches....it was a very hot day yet once inside this beautiful church made in the 1st century it was cold and dark....but like I mentioned earlier, gorgeous. All stone and architecture is nothing compared to modern day builds that don't last 25 yrs. Ohhh btw it's 1€ per person, extremely cheap.
A nice peace of romanic architecture
(Translated by Google) The Monastery of San Martin de Castañeda is very old and was originally the site of a monastery built by a small group of monks from Cordoba at the beginning of the 10th century, during the reign of King Ordoño II of Leon. Its elevated geographical position, perched on a hill on the northern shore of Lake Sanabria, and the surrounding landscape were ideal for the monks' spiritual retreat. Around the year 921, the monks rebuilt the monastery on the ruins of the old monastery. The monastic complex reached its largest size in the 11th century, when it was incorporated into the Benedictine order. It has undergone several historical phases and is one of the most important Romanesque complexes on the peninsula, having been declared a national historical-artistic site in 1931. All that remains of the original building is the church and the remains of the old monastic outbuildings, which have now been converted into the Interpretation Centre of the Lake Sanabria Natural Park.
