Just awesome, the walk up there is a pilgrimage, especially if you do it from Panormos🥴🤣🤣🤣,actually only 7 km but it comes with uphill/downhill on a hot day in June, so it took longer than expectedl😇. Up there, only staff was there cleaning altar utensils, so it was really nice after the long walk, just sitting there and chatting a bit Monastery is wonderful, you can see the monk's cell of Saint Savvas and lots of relics. Also how people asked for protection from the Saint and thanked for healing and good work life, offering their crutches and captain's hats. Very touching experience. Very friendly nuns there. And breathtaking view, especially if you walk up🤣. Come early in the morning, watch the opening times( closes at 1pm to 4pm!!!), You have the monastery for you alone. 100% recommended👍❤️
A Monastery up in the hills just from Pothia, it's a very religious monastery for the people of Greece in which they come on a pilgrimage to visit, it has a very important saint there (Saint Savvas) which you can place your blessing to, the Monastery has the most beautiful church and lovely well looked after grounds. It was a good walk up the hill to get there but it is definitely worth visiting especially if you are seeking some kind of calming divine aura in life, maybe from the passing of loved ones or just seeking spiritual peace with ones self.
This is one of the most beautiful Clean holy places I have ever been. You don’t have to pay to enter.
awesome experience, wlked there from Panormos, quite a hike, around 7 km, doesn't sound much but comes with up's and down's, so, if you do kt on a hot june day, can be bit challenging. The monastery is a place to be when you are on Kalymnos, since Saint Savvas is a very powerful saint, you will see it with the thanksgivings of people in the room close to Saint Savva's monk's cell. Very very touching and impressive. You can also go up by car and drive to the monastery if you have any mobility issues.
In late 2015, we were rescued by coastal rescue ships. We waited here on the coast for three days. I currently live in Germany.Thank God.🙏It was a dangerous journey.
Amazing views and well kept convent
Tough walk up but amazing views and beautiful church. Unfortunately we made it up there at 1pm when the monastery closes at the moment! Thankfully the caretaker let us take a quick look inside but the Google opening times are wrong!
Peaceful location, you can visit the main church and side chapel that contains relics of st. Savvas.
